It's NASCAR homecoming week as the Coca-Cola 600 runs in Charlotte. We're going to be talking about that big crown jewel race from here and Garage Pass. This is Andy Curling.

SPEAKER_04The Coke 600 is all about family, and it was for Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who attended his first NASCAR race at four years old in Charlotte. Take a listen.
SPEAKER_02The Coke 600 was my first ever cup race to go to as a kid, uh, 1992. I remember Mark Martin spinning out, going into turn one. We were coming up from you know concession stands or bathroom or something when I was a kid, you know, kind of dirt and smoke were were kind of flying everywhere. I looked that race up the other day just to make sure my memory was correct. And yeah, Mark ends up spinning, you know, into the infield there in one and two. So, you know, that was the that was my first ever you know cup race to go to as a kid on a family vacation. And uh we had family, uh my dad's from Huntersville, North Carolina, so we always came over here to see my grandma and um and our family that was still living here. So um that was that was a cool vacation.
SPEAKER_04Hometown kid William Byron experienced heartbreak in last year's Coca-Cola 600, but what did he learn from that experience?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean I think that ultimately had a good lesson in it uh for us because we ended up you know winning more races down the down the road and making it to the championship, and I felt like that that 600 was kind of a big learning lesson for Martinsville and kind of what we had to do there to advance. So uh I always put a lot of pressure on myself to win at Charlotte, I think, because it would mean a lot and just have a lot of significance, you know. But um, it's just another race. So just trying to go out there and perform well. Last last year was almost a perfect weekend with you know winning the next Finity race and and everything. So uh yeah, it'd be nice to win uh cup race at Charlotte at some point.
SPEAKER_04Well, let's see if William Byron can finally get that coveted Charlotte win. The Coca-Cola 600 is this Sunday for PRN's Garage Pass. This is Andrew Curlin.
