Ty Dillon joins to talk about the moment of silence that he and his other NASCAR competitors observe behind the wheel in the middle of the Coke 600. At lap 200/400, drivers bring their cars down pit road, turn their engines off, and remember all of those who serve and have served.
As NASCAR rolls into Memorial Day weekend, it's important to honor and remember those that have fallen. And at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600, there's one tradition that's really special. For PRN's garage pass, this is Andrew Kermit.

SPEAKER_00The Coca-Cola 600 is a 400-lapse 600-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. One of the coolest traditions that I've been lucky enough to bear witness to is the halfway break moment of silence. NASCAR and the teams will bring all of the cars down pit road. They turn the engines off, and everybody, drivers, crews, fans, all observe a moment of silence. It is pure quiet in the middle of what is a chaotic 600-mile race. Cup Series driver Ty Dillon talks about what that moment is like from behind the wheel. I've been fortunate enough to stand in the grandstands at the end of stage number two when you guys bring your cars on pit road, you turn the engines off, and you can hear the buzzing of the lights. That's how quiet it is for that moment of silence. What's that like for you behind the wheel of the car when we stop for that moment of silence in the middle of the Coke 600?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's pretty awesome. You know, you just take that time. You know, we're kind of catching our breath inside the car and resetting, but you just kind of take that time. And I love seeing like the Pit Crew guys and the American flags on the wall and just the fans and just everyone taking it in in the middle of something so crazy, like a NASCAR race at Charlotte. Um, just to stop and just uh have that moment of silence is so special. Um, such a tradition now, and um I love being a part of it. And you know, we're inside the car that's just been ringing loud for so long, and then it gets so eerily quiet. Um, there's definitely something special about it.
