SPEAKER_00

Hello, everybody. Welcome to Full Strength Podcast episode number nine. We are back. We are ready. A very, very busy week in sports, especially. NFL has started going off the rails with trades and free agency. Um, also NHL trade deadline. Wow. A lot of big moves, uh, a lot of small moves, uh, a lot of great stuff. We're gonna talk about some uh the absolutely horrible uh UFC, uh, baseball, of course. Um, and we're gonna do top five sports logos at the end here for you guys. So um, with that, Steve, how was your week, man? It was busy.

SPEAKER_03

Um, it was good though. Lots of things going on. Time change sucks. Um, but beyond that, it was uh it was a good week. Awesome, dude.

SPEAKER_00

Well, welcome. Episode number nine. I think we make it past two. I'm just kidding. Brandon, stop. What's up, buddy? How's your week?

SPEAKER_01

Just like Steve, that time change is always rough. Skipping ahead an hour. Where did that time go? But other than that, things have been good here. Just getting ready for spring break next week.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you probably still had time to eat a hot hot dog at a ball game, but you know, it's neither here nor there. Uh Nick, how was your week, buddy?

SPEAKER_02

Week was good, man. Uh, I had a birthday, so I'm a year older. Um, had some friends, family friends come into town that I haven't seen in a minute. Uh, uh albeit Dodger fans, but it was still a good visit. And I don't know what you guys are talking about. My time never changed.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Awesome. Well, good. Um glad everybody's back. Um, I we were just talking before we got on here about uh my son's uh tryouts are over. Absolutely insane week here in Western New York. Um, a lot of a lot of youth hockey is just crazy here. But uh he did make he is on a uh new organization, new team. Um he's on a tournament bound double A team, so he's pretty excited and uh excited about the change. So um so with that, uh let's uh just jump into it right now and we'll talk right off the bat about uh the UFC and the BMF belt. Um I it pretty pretty pretty boring fight, Nick. Go ahead and start us off on that one.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so we had UFC 326. Yeah. Um featuring the big fight, the only fight that mattered I was looking forward to and ended up being not the best fight on the card was Max Holloway versus Charles Obera. Uh for the second time for the BMF belt. For the for those of you that aren't familiar, the BMF is a bad Emmer Effer belt. Um bad motherfucker. Yep. I always attributed that to somebody that was gonna never turn down a fight and stand and bang. And man, they hugged a lot.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Max Holloway, and and listen, I I've always Max Holloway's always been a good fight. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I just yeah, just fight, you know, he's like pointing down, he's like, let's go. And they they just throw hands if they end up going for the full three or five rounds. But yeah, um, he just kept Charles Oliveira does what he always does, and I mean he is a champion, has been a champion. He is the new champ champion for those who spoiler alert, is now the BMF champion. Um he grabs you, gets your back, punches you until you forget that he's got his arm under your neck, um, and then he puts you to sleep. And that's so it was nice to watch Max Holloway do this for five rounds. Um, but it was definitely not. It would have been a good, honestly, it would have been a good championship belt for like a light, a light heavy, or what are they? They're both lightweights. Yeah, lightweight belt. BMF belt. Yeah. It was it dragged down. Like he he uh we saw Max Holloway get taken down, you know, three, four minutes left in every round, and I'm just like, all right, I'm gonna go PL be right back because it just it just was not what you wanted to see. Not a lot of action. But uh congratulations to Charles Rivera. I'm sure there'll be a third install installment for this fight series, and I'm hoping it goes I don't even care who wins, but I hope it goes a little differently than this one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know with Olivera, but it yeah, it is what it is. Steve, I know you watched it. What did you think, man?

SPEAKER_03

Pretty much what you've been talking about. It was I mean, it was it's fun, always fun to watch UFC, but it was a sure.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, for sure.

SPEAKER_03

It was of uh of the boring kind of it was too much of the ground.

SPEAKER_00

It's a good technical fight, you know what I mean? But yeah, it was like for the fans, it was kind of just like, yeah, this is not why we buy the tickets. But again, it's they're both great fighters. Uh Levera is an incredible fighter, but again, he's more of that, you know what, ground and pound jujitsu type wrestling type stuff. But I more wrestling anymore. Brandon, did you have a chance to watch it at all?

SPEAKER_01

No, I haven't watched UFC in forever.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Well, anyway, it it yeah, it was just we thought we'd hit on it here to start, but yeah, it really, it really just I don't know. I it was just kind of a letdown. It's like, yeah, when like Nick said, when you think of when you think of the bad motherfucker belt, it's like, hey, I do you're thinking this is gonna be like two guys just trying to kill each other. I don't know. But again, fighters are incredible athletes, they're mostly good human beings, and so yeah, there's a few of them that are outside the box. I know. But I it's I just want to see again like like Connor McGregor and Nate Diaz. You know what I mean? Like, I those Nate Diaz was always you knew what you were getting with Nate Diaz and Connor McGregor and some of the other guys. I I again I'm just dropping those two names because I mean those those guys were awesome, those were great fights. Apparently, Connor wanted to get on the White House. Nate Diaz and anybody, like the Diaz brothers were legit, but anyway, I'm just rambling on about it. But um with the comp with the Compton flaps, yeah. So let's get into it. So the NFL, um good grief. Did anybody pay attention today? Absolutely insane what's going on with the NFL. Is obviously you got free agency that's starting. Um, you got guys like Tua got released and signed today. So, or I guess, I mean, you know, technically these things go on, but it's like you know, it was announced today. Tua was released by the Dolphins. I think they took like a 99 million dollar dead cap hit and then uh immediately goes to Atlanta. And so I'm like, I mean, my listen, Tua, the one good year that he had, honestly, all the guy had to do was just throw it up and Jalen Waddell and Tyreek Hill would just go get it. Um, I've never thought he was, I don't think he's that great to begin with, but it's definitely a bottom, bottom end, you know, starting quarterback in the NFL. If if you don't have those types of guys around him, I don't know what you're gonna, what Atlanta thinks they're getting. I mean, maybe a backup quarterback. That's cool. That's great, cool. I'm sure that's what they're going for. Yeah, somebody with experience. Yeah, man. It's like I I feel bad for Tua. If that kid gets hit one more time, it's like, dude, he's he's done. It's my opinion. It's like, oh, what are you doing? You've already made your money, like, you know, maybe it maybe you should hang it up. I don't know. But again, it's how do you tell that to a pro athlete that's done this all their life? I mean, and you know, when we say terrible, they're still pro athletes, they're incredible athletes. So it's but it's just like quarterback. It's an incredibly hard position to play. Um, I also saw Niners, Niners signed uh Mike Evans. That's yeah, kind of kind of one. But listen, three years, 60 million. Yeah, yep. They're still banking on Mike Evans to be like a number one when he's really a number two, but it he's great, great signing. I mean, that's that's fantastic. The Niners also signed an offensive lineman. Um, we saw the Max Crosby deal to Baltimore. Um, that's gonna be a good move for the Ravens. Holy smokes. And then uh uh who was it? Uh Jalen was it Jalen Warren that uh left Philly for Carolina? Did anybody see that one?

SPEAKER_03

I didn't see that one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so um anything that stands out to you, Steve.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, I had to charge my phone because of all the announcements and all these trades pickups.

SPEAKER_03

Um go ahead on your phone. I think the uh I was talking looking at the OD Owen to the commanders for which one was it? 100 uh 100 million over four years. I don't, I just don't think he's worth that much.

SPEAKER_00

That's yeah, it's fair. I mean, your your guy, we did talk about this on the phone. Like, what'd you think about uh Kyle Murray getting released? I know you were pretty happy about that. I've always liked Kyler Murray, I really did.

SPEAKER_03

I think he was the worst pick in the world. I I know you do, especially for number one.

SPEAKER_02

There was talk about him going back to baseball. That's how that's how poorly he has done.

SPEAKER_03

Really? Well, just look at you. We were just talking about the Miami Corps.

SPEAKER_02

He was released and picked up in one day at Linux organization.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh. Um, yeah, there's you're looking through a lot of them, right? Um TN's a good look, a good move for the Saints, I think. Great move for the Saints, Travis Etienne Jr. I terrible move for the the uh the Jags, letting him go. Why would they let him go?

SPEAKER_02

Dude, if he was producing, he was doing so well there, like they must know something we don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean you look, Dre Greenlaw got cut. Dre Greenlaw was an absolute stud for the Niners. Um ruptured his Achilles in the Super Bowl and then worked his way back, got all the way back, and then the Niners let him go. But um, and he signed that big deal in Denver, but they're letting him go. So um, oh gosh, Evan Ingram, Evan Ingram re-signed with Houston. Um oh, who is the receiver? They Travis Kelsey re-signed.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say we're doing he's gonna do this year, and then one more year of well, one more year of all the Swifties watching football.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, Patrick Mahomes isn't even gonna be back next year, so it's you know, you're gonna have a who are I wonder who they're gonna get at quarterback. That's gonna be an interesting one. Um Brandon, anything popping out to you?

SPEAKER_03

Kyle Murray would be a good fit for them.

SPEAKER_01

No, on the Raiders side of things, they released Geno Smith or QB, and then they just uh re-signed their center, Linderbaum, to three years at $80 million, which is the largest amount ever for a center. So they might as well just bring out the jersey right now for Mendoza.

SPEAKER_00

I God man, I I don't why why are you gonna why would you get rid of Geno Smith? I just want to know why. Do like you're gonna bring in a brand new rookie quarterback. How many times have we seen this? And the NFL and these guys, they keep doing it. Like, why?

SPEAKER_01

It's a management problem. I knew they were gonna do this.

SPEAKER_00

I know, I know, and it's just I I feel like, and I know what they're sitting there saying. They're like, Well, this kid's different, you know. He's like, we saw it. No, man, it's the NFL. It's I know he's great in college, but guys, it's a proven fact. How many number one overall picks that start their first year end up being worth anything in the NFL?

SPEAKER_01

It's a little new ball game when they get to the hard transition.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, absolutely. It is like I understand that. I'm just saying, like, man, what are we doing? Um, yeah, Khalil Mack staying in LA. It's like you're so much. Marcus Mariota's gonna stay in Washington.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's right. Khalil's going back to the Chargers.

SPEAKER_00

Kate Otten re-signed with Tampa Bay for three years. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Did anybody take oh what's that, Nick?

SPEAKER_02

Go ahead, Steve. No, go ahead. I was gonna ask if anybody heard anything. Did uh the little quarterback from Arizona, did he have a landing spot after his release?

SPEAKER_03

Nope. I was gonna say he didn't place for the Chiefs.

SPEAKER_02

I thought he did, but I was thinking of Tua. Yeah, I know Tua got picked up right away, but I didn't think it was taken there.

SPEAKER_00

How about the Super Bowl MVP signed with Kansas City? Oh, yeah. That's huge. Like, why would Seattle let him go or do you think he wanted to go?

SPEAKER_02

That's a pretty that's a that's gotta be like top three worst teams to possibly be traded to if you're you just won a Super Bowl as an MVP, knowing that the Chiefs want to get back into their routine of the game.

SPEAKER_00

Um the Seahawks are spending money. They re uh re-signed Rashid Shahid three years, 51 mil. I mean, no big deal, right?

SPEAKER_03

Um big deal. Well, they already have the other running back. I can't think of his name right now. Um but he's a he's a good running back, so I don't think they're gonna miss out on him much.

SPEAKER_00

I the Raiders also, the Raiders got uh they acquired Taron Johnson in a trade with the Bills. It's not a bad deal. Yeah. I let's see. Yeah, the 49ers also got offensive tackle, Vedarian Lowe, uh, two years 12 million. That's probably just a uh depth chart kind of deal. Um Garter Minshew went to Arizona. There you go. Steve, you got a new quarterback magic, baby. I wonder if Arizona is gonna go for the kid out of Alabama. The quarterback out of Alabama. Got a great had a great uh combine.

SPEAKER_03

So I, you know, I think they are gonna draft one early. I was hoping that because they I was hoping because it was a running back that I was really hoping that they would pick up. Um, but I now that they released Kyle Murray, but I think they'll go for a quarterback.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, what is this? And I it it just got reported too that the Cardinals just re-signed uh what Tyler Algier to two years, 12 points, 12 and a quarter million.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Uh also the Seattle Seahawks also lost uh I don't know how you say this, it's Boy Mafei. Signed with the Bengals three years 60 mil. Wasn't like, you know, he's he's not like a top-end guy, but he's a pretty good pass rusher.

SPEAKER_03

The Bengals are working on their on their defense. They also signed Logan Wilson.

SPEAKER_00

Um let's see. The Commanders. The Commanders signed God, man, some of these names. Odafe Oway. Four years, 100 million. Defensive lineman.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I think I don't like I mean he's a good player. I don't think he's worth $100 million or over four years. Yeah. $70 million, I that believe was guaranteed.

SPEAKER_00

Um you guys know Jets traded for Mika Fitzpatrick. Mika Fitzpatrick's still a pretty good defensive back. Um, they'd signed Joseph Alsay, three years $36 million, signed defensive lineman and Nagbar, one year $10 million, signed linebacker, Demario Davis, two years $22 million. So they're making, they're spending some money. I mean, it's yeah. Had some good ones. Uh, it's just, man, there's players flying all over the place. And this is just the beginning.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't even know. There's, you know, there's gonna be players that are gonna be on the move, I think, some more. I it it'll be interesting. I really I'm really curious about Dre Greenlaw. I wonder where he goes. I wonder if the 49ers bring him back or if he lands maybe somewhere else. It's they come back to the NFC, maybe. Um God, I'm trying to find. Let's see here. Oh, there, yeah. Anyway, there's a bunch of good ones. But NFL free agency. I was saying decision covering defense for the Chicago Bears. What's that? What Nick, what'd you say? Okay. Sorry, I'm getting a lot of Nick.

SPEAKER_02

A little bandwidth here, but um oh boy.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. With that, so the NFL, uh, with that, we'll move on to the NHL. Um, NHL's trade deadline came and went. Um, posted a little bit on our TikTok page. Um, if you don't know about our TikTok page, go check us out on TikTok full strength podcast. Uh, give us a like, follow, and share. Um, also still have a YouTube channel. Check us out on YouTube. You can check out a lot of these videos on YouTube, um, and well as clips again on TikTok. So, again, with that, uh, the NHL is just is on fire right now. Um, some of the biggest, biggest moves. Um the big one, I think, uh Nazim Kadri going back to Colorado. The last time he was on Colorado's cup team, Colorado brought him back. Brought him back. Um, what a huge move. Um, going back to Calgary is uh Victor Olofson, Maximilian Curren, a uh mid-level like prospect. Uh he's a 19-year-old center. Um, gets Colorado's first round draft pick in 2028, as well as their second round draft pick in 2027. Um, also, Nazim Kadry is only in his fourth year of a seven-year deal. So Colorado is also picking up the remainder of that contract. So Nazim Kadry is going back to Colorado and staying.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. I think didn't he score? He uh had an assist on his first came back too with his uh with the Football.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, not Kadri's such a yeah, he's such a crafty player. I mean, like, I'm not surprised at all. It is this the splash for a contender that we were talking about. This isn't just adding a third-line guy, this is a big time move. And they didn't lose much. Uh Victor Olefson's great, great player, but that's him cadre's so I mean I know he's he is 35, but he's an impact player for a playoff team. I think that's a big impact player. Nick, what do you think?

SPEAKER_02

I think it's huge. Um they're on what, a five-game win streak?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Colorado seems like they're always on a win streak.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, it's it's nice to see a trade take instant gratification for the you know, oh, for sure. Well, uh, they knew that was gonna happen, though. I think bringing him back. Uh, I'm sure he's excited to be home.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you could also say that the Braden Shen deal, Braden Shen's already making an impact with the Isles. You know what I mean? Like he's definitely making an impact. You know, he was a kept. Yeah, I know. I and for those that don't know what we're talking about, the Islanders got Braden Shen from St. Louis uh for Druin, another uh Marcus Gadof, I think is how you say that, uh, 20-year-old goalie prospect um in the Isles system, and then they got Colorado's 2026 first round draft pick and uh New Jersey's 2026 third round draft pick. I when is Colorado gonna have a first round draft pick again? Like maybe 29. When you're that good though, like I probably realize they don't need it. The Sharks and the Red Wings, when they were like perennial contenders, did it. all the time. So um yeah. Uh Steve, any big trades stick out to you or anything you were hoping or didn't see or I was hoping because the Hurricanes would have done did more.

SPEAKER_03

Um but I think the St. Louis Blues won out on the on the deadline. They did a lot of I think they picked up a lot of good players.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah they got a lot of draft picks too. I mean they didn't do bad. I listen I I'm going to tell you what well Brandon go ahead what do you anything?

SPEAKER_01

So for me seeing all the trades the Sabres made.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah I was going to say I think I think Buffalo might have won the deadline. Well I mean you say win the deadline but I good grief man they picked up some players yeah I surprised they went that hard yeah I mean there was I think three deals that I was thinking of they got I know they got Tanner Pearson. I think that's a great depth pickup third line guy I think he's gonna add a little bit of offense just in in a you know on a team that's got two pretty squared away lines I'm just saying like their depth is what's gonna really really help them um I think we saw that yesterday in that game Jesus um what else did Buffalo do here they got Sam Carrick that was the one I was trying to look for the details on it but um also that's that's there there it is. The one that I was thinking of was the defensive trade that they made so they got Logan Stanley and Luke Shen from Winnipeg. Now they gave back a 2027 second a 2026 fourth um and then they gave up Isaac uh Isaac Rosen and Jacob Bryson just you know some mid-level players but uh yo Logan Stanley guys that's that's that's adding defensive depth I mean I know Buffalo's got uh uh raspus Dalin and Owen power both number one overall draft picks um in their years both great offensive defensemen obviously Dallen is on another level than like Owen Power but Brandon I agree with you yeah right now now I think the two most dangerous teams in the east are Carolina and Buffalo I did anybody see the game yesterday oh the lightning game the lightning and sabers in buffalo i like here's okay so here's the thing uh great game obviously it was just gonna be that way and what it was was what it was yeah but listen man you can't you can't give up six unanswered goals at home okay that's that's something that Buffalo needs to like correct but they were able to get back and still win that game and the physicality obviously the first 10 minutes I think there was 64 penalty minutes or the first like five minutes like it was insane right and then it's then you lose the lead I think oh it's five unanswered goals sorry and it's six to four you make it six five it goes seven five and then you scored three unanswered let's just say it was a bad day for goalies in Buffalo but they did come back and win it that's with Tampa Bay who they're fighting for the number one overall spot in that division I still think Tampa Bay is going to have something to say about your comment Brandon but I think Tampa Bay is but yeah Buffalo's young there they are young. Don't worry Steve Carolina's still great um let's see there was another trade here that I wanted to touch oh I thought the Penn's trade for Soderbloom was a great depth pick for the pens obviously they're in a slide right now um I I still think they make the playoffs but I mean they're gonna have to weather the storm that play by Malkin um was I I know people are gonna say it was dirty but I think it was just a moment a lapse in judgment he had a momentary lapse in judgment swung his stick across obviously it was dirty he got five game suspension for it but anyway um I thought that was a good trade but the one I was also thinking of was um um it Detroit got Justin Falk again from St. Louis um they get another first round draft pick uh they get the Sharks third round draft pick they get again a mid-level prospect in Dimitri I'm not even gonna try to say that Russian name and then uh they got Justin Hawk.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah Justin Falk that's what a that's that's that's a great move by Detroit again trying to make a push that's up there with the Nazim codry deal I mean that's the big move Nick you're a big Red Wings fan I mean go ahead yeah it was you know you're adding veteran experience um and a top tier D man to help stabilize the blue line um yeah and a guy that can score hopefully I mean hopefully at least contribute offensively driving me nuts what's that for sure um and then to close close off that D so that you know I I'm ex I I'm still impressed with like we already said the Avalanche are on that five game streak the Sabres even with their super goal scoring this last game against the uh lightning on a seven game streak like yep it's nice to be hot right before the postseason you know I mean like it's especially when you're adding more players and try to get enforcer yeah yeah I and again Steve the blues ended up obtaining two first round draft picks or three I think total but what a haul for St.

SPEAKER_00

Louis if they're gonna rebuild they've definitely said hey we're going after it in the draft so I I really like what St. Louis did but yeah Nick I think again great move great move by Detroit great move by the Aves big fan um you know what else I'm a fan of is the Sharks lack of moves I you know again I I love love the team I love what Mike Reer is doing there I've said that before I it what this shows is that he's like nah we don't need to make any moves if we make the playoffs this year we make the playoffs but where you're gonna see us is in the next two years sharks still have two first round draft picks in the 26th draft another second rounder they've got another I think they gave up their third but yeah they've got yeah two firsts and a second they traded away a uh third to get um in the uh in the deal that brought that kid that they just signed from St. Louis I'm drawing an absolute blank right now on his name I apologize uh kefer Sherwood just popped in as I was gonna look it up um they gave up the second in that deal which obviously is gonna work out really well keeper Sherwood is looking to be an absolutely beast on the third line so again and then the sharks have players like Quentin Musty uh Igo Chernesoff they've got uh Luca Cagnoni coming they've got Leo Wellanisis coming um and they've got the number one goalie prospect in the entire league right now in Ravensburger so who looks like he might be better than Askaroth so I I love that um I Montreal also made some moves but it you know it's some of those teams that it's like their lack of moves where they're like basically like what the sharks are doing too they're saying like nah we're good we're we're okay so I like that um with that anything obviously it's looking like the kings are just on a I don't know if they're gonna be able to hold on um looking at the current standings Columbus lost again so it's like what do they do but they got a point I know today. And yeah the Kings did get that victory today but boy were they on a slide and it's like are they able to correct that? What do you think? Who do you guys like?

SPEAKER_03

Who do you not like who do you think's gonna slide Steve man no if we're talking about the West I I I don't think Seattle's gonna make it um I do see actually the sharks making it into the playoffs. Okay I think they'll I think they'll do enough by the end of the by the end of the season to to make the playoffs. I don't see the Kings or Seattle making the playoffs.

SPEAKER_00

Okay and that's yeah that's fair Seattle hasn't been overwhelmingly great or bad I mean they're just kind of mid Brandon what do you think?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah with Steve on that I think the sharks will slide in in there over the Kraken and in the east and it's pretty rough like blue jackets are a little struggling right now I like Ottawa.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah I was about to say Ottawa's there at 71 points right now they got some catching up to do but they can but I dude have you watched like you watch Ottawa man are they gritty and just grind games out and Brady Kachuk is a beast I love Brady Kachuk.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm just saying like listen I believe I think Ottawa's gonna be the team right nick what do you think buddy I think that I'm interested to see what what's gonna happen with our expansion team um they're still technically in the thick of it uh for the Western conference the mammoths but I think the sharks will get in I hope that the Oilers get in just because I really want to see them make it to the cup again.

SPEAKER_00

But I dude I'm gonna tell you what I I don't I do not think Edmonton's gonna get past the second round I they don't have a goaltender.

SPEAKER_02

I mean they're gonna struggle just to make the playoffs at least they're not acting like it I think they'll struggle to make the playoffs no I know I just I just don't know how many more years McDavid has left and that he's just one of those players that I think deserves a cup.

SPEAKER_00

He deserves his name on there and I don't know how much how much more time he's got left yeah I mean McDavid's ancient yeah McDavid's good buddy he'll McDavid's got another 10 years but it's you know you look at guys like Crosby and so on and so forth it's like dude McDavid yeah McDavid's 29 dude he'll play till at least 38 he's just he's a monster I but I I get what you're saying. I just don't know if it's gonna be with Edmonton who knows that's fair maybe he goes to San Jose. I don't know San Jose is going to win probably three or four in the 30s no honestly I I get it with McDavid I it's uh it it was God man the last two years are so painful it's just to watch again it's god their goaltending is just always so pitiful. It's like it's gotta suck knowing I think that's what it was win every night as long as you score six or seven goals. You know I so I yeah I feel it and then what Brandon said I think I think Buffalo and Carolina right now are the two teams to beat in the uh in the east I mean good God Buffalo's won another seven in a row right now they're sitting at 84 points and 64 games played Carolina has one game in hand and they're only two points in front of Buffalo for number one in the east and Carolina did lose lose one I mean it's like but it's Brandon I yeah I don't know Philadelphia could also make a push there's a lot of teams just that are kind of just hanging around in the east underneath that wild card spot and again same with the west it's like I I don't think Winnipeg's got it in them to make a push but you never know there's 20 games left yeah and San Jose's got one game in hand with uh Seattle i yeah and two games in hand with Utah i it's gonna be fun every week this is changing and getting better we're through the trade deadline which I think again I that what's some just some great moves so it's it's interesting I think it's gonna be fun it's gonna be great to watch I'm looking forward to it and it honestly I think we're gonna see some just who wants to see Buffalo and Tampa Bay in the playoffs I I just want to see them I just want to see them get into I want to see them in the second or third round I know I don't think it can it can't happen in the third round because of the absolutely horrible playoff format that the NHL decided to come up with it oh god it's horrible they started it in I think 2019 and it was just like what are you doing? I just like watching the playoffs yeah I know I can watch so much better when it was one versus eight two vs seven three versus six four vs five and then it reseeds every round i i'm like this new BS that they're doing is absolutely just pitiful I just get tired of seeing the same matchup so many times in the playoffs it's and that's the problem with it and you have no chance for a one to beat an eight or a two to beat a seven it's like it's I yeah I'm sorry it's terrible absolutely terrible format I and being on all the boards and stuff it's like I see it all the time like we keep talking about it and fans are talking about it and they're like why are we doing it this way the only people that really think it's oh well we don't really know better is just new fans to hockey is they don't understand how much better it was when it was in that format in this nonsense with the ooh division rivals it's like yeah first round no that's what the third and that's what the second and third round are for the first round is to see if the little guy can beat the big guy and then we move forward. Yeah for sense this is yeah exactly this is dumb it's as bad as shootouts you see Mark or not eating hot dogs at baseball games I mean for the love of God right who would dare do something like every chance we get that who would be you I don't know what you're talking about.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway Steve anything else to close out the NHL this week buddy nope I think we talked about it enough oh okay yeah Brandon the stuff do you have any stuff to anything else to add on the NHL or hockey in general the only thing I got left add is just that I liked Utah straight they take anything weigher from the flames and they've built up a strong defensive core they're one of the best defenses in the league.

SPEAKER_02

Who Utah yeah fifth in fewest goals allowed and fifth in fewest shots allowed I got you and Nick it's not an expansion team buddy they're from Arizona the coyotes you know what I meant um go ahead I'm the ignorant sports fan in this podcast that other ignorant sports fans can relate to um okay uh as far as hockey goes I think it's real dangerous to have McKinnon on the what he's leading in points and goals in the NHL they're on a tear they're just there are people to be watched out for for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah awesome all right um with that let's uh move over we'll go into baseball boy is anybody watching the WBC right now the world baseball classic I've caught some highlights of it oh my god it's electric it's so much fun watching some of these teams like Mexico Cuba Puerto Rico it they're so much fun to watch because the stadium doesn't stop it's just like and then the team USA is absolutely going bananas right now I think a lot of fans are bleeding over from the Olympics and the the the team USA men's and women's hockey that they won I think it's just bleeding over because those team USA games are a lot of fun it's electric to watch um by the way oh Tani is uh looks like he's in midseason form absolutely killing it he's pitching again and he's doing a hell of a job it it's there hasn't been a bad really a bad game um and then there was some highlights and some viral videos going around of the umpire's view of Kyle Schwarber's home run against Great Britain oh my god what just electric man for Schwarber to do it to Great Britain again is like ah telly oh mate see you later yeah that's all the highlights in that game sorry for my horrible uh British accent but I'm sorry but that was uh that was a it was an absolutely amazing so um let's uh U.S. is playing Mexico tonight it is Monday you will know the results when this airs on Friday i it's I can't I I'm excited it's I'm gonna watch that game it's gonna be a lot of fun it's you know getting ready to start right now it's I'm excited I love I love the world baseball classic I love the countries especially some of the foreign countries are just so electric they don't shut up it's awesome any thoughts Nick Brandon the stuff um I think an interesting topic looking at the the world baseball classic and he's gone again okay we're gonna have to move on Brandon the stuff what do you think buddy I think it's just uh fun watching these teams you don't from countries you wouldn't typically you know connect with baseball like Netherlands has a team israel has a team in there yeah yeah panama yeah panama it it's the it brand has got a point it's just it is great to see baseball being played all I mean it's plays all it's played all over the world and to see the just the absolute just it's electric and the countries the pride it's I I agree brand it's really really cool it's a lot of fun and it's nice to see these guys are ready to go obviously a lot of these players are ready to go they're in pre they're they're they're ready spring training is good I always love watching the Japanese games oh yeah they go I mean they go all out for their games that's yeah they have cheerleaders man core there's no cheerleaders in baseball there's no cheerleaders in baseball sir sorry I'm gonna bring that a league of their own all season that rough but yeah uh it's just it's a lot of fun to watch if you're not watching the world baseball classic uh you really are missing out it is a lot of fun it's incredible um a lot of good stuff um usa japan I mean I I remember in 20 I think it was 23 the the Japan um versus or it was otani vs trout when otani was still with the uh angels and it was just best on best at that point it was like I think trout worked the count oh to three two he got beat twice with like a hundred mile an hour fastball um otani gave it to him and then he struck him out on the same pitch it it just it it was that was a lot of fun to watch and that was Japan winning the world baseball classic so it's like uh can we get that matchup again be great have do you know where Mike Trout is this uh world baseball classic I I don't I I don't know but uh I don't believe I think I don't know if he's on the team this year he's not because he couldn't get insurance approval to play for his country due to the injury I forget who got who got hurt with like a season ending injury uh in 2023 but some of the players are having issues getting that's what I was trying to talk about when I ran into my bandwidth um that's what some of these players are running into is they're not being able to get insurance approval to play. Interesting that's just typical yeah leave it to something like insurance to you know mess something like this up leave it to the money yeah I like it's just yeah yeah that's unfortunate I didn't know I wasn't aware of that it's just okay but I don't know what are you gonna do so that's why trout's not playing but either way still great still great baseball we still got a great team um obviously not the same without trout but that is what it is So um anyway, back to but with that, we'll uh anything spring training. Um hasn't been a lot of news, just uh typical cactus league and uh grapefruit league stuff. I know that's kind of what I thought. Yeah, kind of just moving along and getting through it. We've got uh a few more weeks of spring training, uh three, I think, and then uh opening day is March 27th, which is exciting. Um, everybody's getting their hot dog makers out. Um, what do you like on your hot dogs, Steve?

SPEAKER_03

When I have one at a baseball game.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you don't eat hot dogs at baseball games. That's right. Sorry about that. I forgot about that loser. Um that's gonna be going for a while, isn't it? I don't know if it's ever gonna go away.

SPEAKER_03

You're probably right.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my goodness. But uh should have kept it to myself. A lot, you know what's funny. With I I know the world baseball classic is kind of taking over the headlines when it comes to baseball right now, but like some of the pitchers were upset because they were only allowed to pitch so much. I know uh Tariq Scuball seemed a little irritated about it or miffed, but uh either way, it was it's a lot of fun. Base world baseball classic's kind of taking over again, and it's like spring training is still going on, but uh nothing major, just uh teams, teams getting ready. Um, haven't really seen anything that's really uh broken out. I did see some really cool stuff with the A's taking pictures um in the new stadium in Vegas by the uh famous uh South Las Vegas uh Boulevard. Welcome to Las Vegas Sign, which is uh for those of you that don't know, it's just past the Mandalay Bay, right across the street from uh Clark County Fire Department Station 11. Um, it's it's a really cool spot. It's I remember, Brandon, you obviously will remember this too, but it used to just be like people running through traffic to try to get there to take a picture. Now it's got like a parking lot and it's got a fenced-in area, and uh it's it's actually it's it's pretty neat.

SPEAKER_03

So um you know Vegas has been stealing all the Oakland teams. You do you think the um the Warriors are gonna end up going there in the next decade or so?

SPEAKER_00

The Warriors are in San Francisco in a nice, beautiful stadium. The the Warriors New Stadium is actually just on the other side of McCovey Cove from where the Giants play. It's like a 10-minute walk from stadium to stadium, 10, maybe 15 minutes, but yeah, it's no the Warriors New Stadium is oh, it's it's beautiful, but it's back in San Francisco. Listen, everybody wants to blame the owner of the A's, I think it's it's just comical when it's like, yeah, no, three teams in five years to everybody is not an ownership problem. That is 100% a you problem.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely. Oakland's always had a problem with keeping teams.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, just yeah, enough with that nonsense. And it's funny that John Fisher, the owner of the A's, is literally spending a ton of money in free agency to build that stadium in Las Vegas now that he has the land and you know they're they're working out a deal together, and it's like, yeah, no.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I mean, it's not a bad move if you think about it, because I mean, if you look at the previously for like, for instance, the Raiders, the fans followed them when they were in Oakland down to LA and then over to Vegas. So I don't see why they'll lose any fans for the A's going to Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, you have the emotional, you know, victim mentality type uh fans, but you know, it's like uh bad owner, it's his fault. No, not really. If they went to the games, they wouldn't be losing them. I know. Here's the funny thing. Like, I remember for years when the A's would win even 102 games, it was like they were 23rd in the league in attendance. It's like okay. What were you gonna say, Brandon? Sorry you got cut off.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, yes, remember uh Las Vegas is a big Dodgers city.

SPEAKER_00

Oh Dodgers Dodgers, Padres, yeah. I mean, it's like, yeah, that that's always been the case, though, Brandon. I remember because remember uh the preseason games for like the NBA and the NHL would always come there. It was always the Lakers, or it was always the uh um the Kings or the Ducks, you know what I mean? Would come. Remember, there was that uh what did they call it? Frozen Fury. Yeah, frozen fury, the frozen fury game at uh the garden, yeah. Uh the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Yeah, it was always it was always those types of teams, though. It was always LA teams, and that's just I mean it's four and a half hours away, right? You're in the outskirts of like San Bernardono County in like three and a half hours, so especially on I-15. It's like a freaking F1 track. You're doing 90, you're getting your blows, your doors blown off. Please drive safe, folks. All right, don't don't die. So anyway, it's not encouraging any speed. Yeah, don't yeah, don't any type of speed. It's bad. Um yeah, so anyway, with that said, uh, I think we can go into our uh top five. I guess we're gonna do baseball logos. Not sports logos. Nah, we'll keep it baseball logos. That's fine. It was supposed to be sports logos, but it's all good. Um, so yeah, we're gonna do uh top five, our top five baseball logos is gonna be our theme this week. Um, let us know what your top five, I guess, baseball logos are, but go ahead and give us sports logos. Um we're gonna do baseball, but uh you can give us sports. Um, three two one, everybody ready.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm saying here.

SPEAKER_00

Steve. Who's starting it? Steve, what is your number five baseball logo, buddy?

SPEAKER_03

All right, my number five is the 80s and 90s Cincinnati Reds logo with Mr. Red.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

With Mr. Red. That's that was a good era of Reds. The Reds uniform is always classic, and it hasn't changed. It's like one of those uniforms that just has not changed a lot. It stood the test of time. It really, it really has. And I yeah, I think it's I think it's absolutely good designs. Yeah, it's classic, it's great. Yep, good choice at number five. Um, the stuff, what do you got, buddy? What's number five for you?

SPEAKER_01

Oh my list is gonna be made up of all modern logos. There's so many changes over the years, it's too much to dive into.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're good.

SPEAKER_01

So for my number five, I went with the Houston Astros.

SPEAKER_00

The Houston Astros, okay. Yeah, I like it. That's another one that's that was uh wild in the 70s and 80s. I mean, boy, did that uniform change. But yeah, Astros is a uh yeah, that's a great, that's a great choice. I like it. Uh Nick, number five, buddy.

SPEAKER_02

Number five coming in with Chief Wahoo. Uh the Cleveland Indians logo from what 1979 to 2013. Uh yeah, the current.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Go ahead and go to go ahead and go to an Indians game, buddy, and you'll see.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, there's there's both, but yeah, it's that's all that's it's I I talk to a lot of their fans. It's I think their new one is horrendous, honestly. It's pitiful. So, real quick, uh, the you know, the guardians is right by the stadium on the highway is the bridge, and it's the guardians of of Cleveland. It the name makes sense, but it's like now. You no. Nope, it's the Indians. Um, for me, number five, I'm going with the Philadelphia Phillies. Uh, classic, the Liberty Bell with the Philz. Um that's a good one. Yep, great uniforms. Love, love, love it. So that's my number five is the fighting Phils. Steve, start us off, number four.

SPEAKER_03

Ah, my number four got picked by Nick, and that would have been the chief for the Cleveland Indians. The chief for the one because the mainly because of the movies. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

When you when you saw the Cleveland Indians in movies, that's what you saw. Absolutely. Absolutely. Love it. And then number four. Brandon, what's your the stuff? What's your what's number four?

SPEAKER_01

My number four is a simple classic one, the Chicago White Sox.

SPEAKER_00

The Sox. Okay. I like it. Yep. That is, and that's one that also has not changed very much over their over their long history. I mean, it really hasn't. So uh Nick, number four, buddy.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I'm going with the baseball logo, but I'm going with the Beloit Skycarps. Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Um it is a picture of a it's like okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um who are they Beloit Minor League for my hometown area? Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I think you're associated with the A's. Gotcha. Okay. All right. Uh, for me at number four, I know that's actually a cool logo. Everybody's looking at it up right now. Um, for me at number four, um, just because again, I I like the classics, I'm gonna go with the St. Louis Cardinals. So, number four for me is gonna be the St. Louis Cardinals. Another classic one. Great jerseys, great uniforms, great colors. Uh, Steve, what's your number three?

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know, I was gonna go with the White Sox, but now uh since that one was already, I'm gonna do the Durham Duels since uh Durham Bulls since Nick's throwing in uh minor leagues there.

SPEAKER_00

That's fine. Your top five, buddy. All right, Durham Bulls, great organization. Brandon, number three.

SPEAKER_01

Number three, I went with uh the uh Miami Marlins. I just like the way they incorporate the animal with the letter.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I got you. That's fair. Uh Nick, number three.

SPEAKER_02

Uh before that, I just want to say to clarify, the Beloit Skycarps are associated with the Marlins, not the A's. There you go. Um, but no, my number three is the 1980s Chicago White Sox logo. It's all wording, it's just clean. Uh, I've always liked it.

SPEAKER_00

The black and white. Yep. Fair enough. Fair enough. Uh, for me, number three was the socks, the Boston Red Sox. So, number three, um, love the Red Sox. So I am going with the Red Sox. Uh Steve, what's your number two?

SPEAKER_03

I gotta throw the Yankees in there, but the 1980 Yankee symbol. Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_00

I like it. Brandon, what's your number two, buddy?

SPEAKER_01

My number two is gonna be the Toronto Blue Jays.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, good logo. They I I was going back and forth, Blue Jays at number five and six, and yeah, I just ended up keeping it kind of classic with some classic teams. So it's like that's what I that's what I did. Uh Nick, what's your number two, bud?

SPEAKER_02

A very specific St. Louis Cardinals logo. Um, it's when I lived in St. Louis, it's just reeks of St. Louis baseball for me. It's the 1956 to 1966 St. Louis Cardinals logo. It's the one where the Cardinals actually holding the bat in the batting position, not sitting on the bat.

SPEAKER_00

Not sitting on the bat. Okay, fair enough. Uh, my number two is the Mets. The New York Mets. I just always remember listening to nice. Awesome. Yep. Um, yeah, my number two is gonna be the New York Mets. I actually almost had the Orioles in there, but Orioles were also kind of just outside of my top five. But I went back and forth and I was kind of like, oh man, but I like the Mets, the symbol with the cityscape in the background, and um the Mets. Uh, if you don't know, the Mets went with blue and orange because orange and black left town and moved to the West Coast.

SPEAKER_03

Giants.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, that was the one of the reasons the Mets were orange, uh orange and blue. So it's fun going to Mets, Giants Giants. There's a lot of uh a lot of fans that you know, generations they still have a place in their family's heart with the Giants. It's kind of interesting sometimes, but anyway. All right, Steve, what's your number one logo, buddy? My number one logo is the Detroit Tigers. Detroit Tigers, another listen, classic team. I just like the calligraphy D. It was just simple. It's great, great, love it. Their home uniforms are so clean and just simple and classic, yeah. Brandon, what's your number one?

SPEAKER_01

My number one's another classic, it's simple, doesn't need to be changed, it's lasted forever. It's Chicago Cubs.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, all right. Nick, what's your number one?

SPEAKER_02

Chicago Cubs. I went with another duh, it's double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. Rocket City trash pandas. Trash pandas right on. Dude, the logo is insane.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely, if you if you look at some listen, if you look at some of the minor league logos out there, they are pretty ridiculous. And I'm talking all the way from rookie ball up. So um, yeah. Anyway, my number one is uh the orange and black, the San Francisco Giants. Um, again, another one that has been around since what 1880s, I think. So, and uh has hasn't really changed. So um yeah, there's our top five. Uh, let us know your top five in the comments. Uh, this will be this video, this segment will be on TikTok this week. So please again check it out. Um, give us a like, follow, and share. Steve, final thoughts this week, buddy.

SPEAKER_03

Final thoughts. Um, I'm just looking forward forward to the uh NHL playoffs to start. I think I talked about it earlier, but I'm really looking forward to that coming out. So yep, it's it's gonna the biggest sports event coming up next for me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's well, you got March Madness. I mean, we got March Madness that's right around the corner. So I think we're gonna start looking into that. We got championship week coming up for the NC2A, and um it's really the only form of basketball worth watching right now.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, we'll have to talk about that next week.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, definitely. Brandon, the stuff. What do we got, buddy?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if you've been uh watching, but Paralympics has been going on, and the men's hockey team there took down Italy 14 to 1. The men just shot it shut out Germany 13 to 0. So for the most advanced lambasting going on.

SPEAKER_00

Holy smokes, great job, team USA. Sled hockey is what it is, right? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Don't disappoint the Paralympics.

SPEAKER_00

Great job, great job, guys, great job. Nick, what do you got for closing comments, buddy?

SPEAKER_02

Uh, I just hope everybody gets and the team USA in the World Baseball Classics up or is in pool play still, but two to zero. Two wins, no losses. So get out and show some support for team USA. Uh, I love the stuff bringing up sled hockey. The whole game is, I mean, you get to skate onto the bench on your sled as opposed to trying to hop the boards, you know, with a sled. Yeah. So they're all um I know. I mean, I'd paid to see it once, but I wouldn't make them do it every game. Um, but yeah, it's getting I'm gonna get back into my peacock app and watch a little bit more sled hockey because I have not seen the sled hockey. And if they're scoring that often, that's gonna be a fun game to watch.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, anytime it's 13 and 14, it's like, holy smokes. Like, how do they do they even take a breath between goals? It's like, whoa boys. Let's go ahead and get it. Uh um, right now, by the way, it is bottom of the first runners on first and second with two outs for team USA with a 1-0 count. So that uh that game has started against Mexico. I'll definitely be turning it on here in a few minutes. But uh, yeah, they are uh they are started here against Mexico. So it's let's go USA. Let's go get it, boys. Get another gold medal, huh? Stay with that. So yeah, the interviews, by the way, with some of the team USA hockey players for the men and women have just been awesome. They're just yeah. What a what a what a moment in USA hockey history. It's just great, fantastic. Love it. So um, yeah, with that said, everybody, thank you for joining us. Um, another great episode. We will see you next week. We will be covering a lot more next week. We will be covering the NC2A, uh men's men's and women's uh basketball tournaments are starting. We got championship week coming up, um, and then it you know, is followed by March Madness tournament. I think starts in just the week after next. So that will be a thing we are covering. Um, there's always a lot of fun, a lot of upsets. We got bracketology. Anyone doing a bracket? I guess we will do next year. I yeah, I'm gonna have I usually have like maybe three or four, I think, but um just the fun ones where you just fill them out. We're not, you know, no money. But I am I did do uh a buddy of mine at work is doing uh some squares for his uh his his kids baseball, his travel baseball team. And so we are doing that, and we do have uh, I did buy a couple of squares from him for that, so that'll be kind of interesting and um fun to pay attention to. But yeah, it's it's always wild. Um, obviously, we'll be covering hockey. Um a little bit of spring training will be going on, maybe some more moves. We will cover anything that's happening in the NFL, in free agency, trades, etc. So join us again. Um obviously uh have a great weekend and uh hope everybody's uh enjoyed this week of sports and finds themselves watching something fun this weekend and uh spending time with your family. Um, with that, hope your families are happy and healthy, and we will see you next time. Full strength podcast. Don't forget to like, follow, and share. Talk to you later.

SPEAKER_01

Peter Zane. See you guys. Thank you.
