This week the guys discuss all of the signings and trades that have been going on in the NFL, current NHL standings, and the top 5 sports rivalries of all time.
Hey everybody and welcome to Full Strength Podcast. Thank you for joining us for another week because this is our 10th episode. We've hit double digits. We're super excited about it. We are having fun. Um, lots going on in sports, um, a lot of fun stuff. So um, let's just get started. Steve, how was your week? It was a good week.
SPEAKER_02It was a busy week. A lot of things going on with sports. Um, surprisingly, I didn't really think that it was gonna be that much, and then things just kept on popping up on my phone. Watch this, watch that. So uh it's been a busy week.
SPEAKER_01Definitely, yeah. It's been it's it's getting it's been a busy week, it's been fun all the way across the board, honestly. Um, everything that's going on. You got you know, signings still happening in the NFL, you've got the NHL's getting hot. Um, yeah, everything going on. Brandon, how was your week? The stuff.
SPEAKER_03No, it's been a good week, a crazy weekend. Been exhausted after 72 hours of competitive board gaming. Board gaming. Yep.
SPEAKER_01What board game boards all weekend? What'd you uh what was that? What'd you do?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just uh convention for board gaming, so it's just huge convention space, there's vendors, but it's mostly just people filling up just tons of tables playing board games, testing new ones or like playing old ones, like that sounds really fun.
SPEAKER_01Both. Both? That's cool. That's right on.
SPEAKER_03I think there's that would be that would be fun. Like yeah, there's like there's like I think between around 3,000 people there. Oh, wow. Okay, Las Vegas convention.
SPEAKER_01I'm guessing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was that uh close to it at the West Gate.
SPEAKER_01The West, okay, right on. Freaking hey, man, that sounds like fun. I'm glad you had a good time. No um Nick, how was your weekend? How was your week? Everything.
SPEAKER_00Uh weekend's been good. Weekend's been good. Um, got finally got to watch part of uh WBC baseball game. Oh, yeah. Um I did not, I will I really wanted to catch a uh some more hockey this week and weekend, and it just didn't happen. Um, got too busy with getting stuff ready, but uh been doing good, getting great, and ready to go ready to podcast double digits, baby.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. Let's go. Episode 10. Um, yeah, so let's start it off right off the bat. We had the WBC going on. Um, you know, team USA obviously lost to um to Italy. Italy is like, wait a second, when Italy's like a bunch of studs, like they are just killing it. But anyway, team USA gets uh loses to them, looking kind of bleak, stuff kind of goes their way. They're moving their way back up, and then last night beating the Dominican Republic two to one. What a game. Started off. Um, I've got some Dominican friends, honestly, and they were talking a little bit of smack, and it was fun, and uh because Dominican Republic was just dog walking teams, right? Like they won 11-0, I think, in one, and so they started off with that with the home run, and then it's like, oh man, here we go. You know, here we go. My scheme's kind of locked in, and so did the rest of that pitching staff. We get two bombs, and uh, it was I the game was great. Like, and Dominican Republic, like we've been hearing a lot of the the well, that was a ball, that wasn't a strike, and I'm sitting here, and I'm sitting here thinking, like, listen, the ump was consistent all game long. The strike zone, he was calling that low strike. Second of all, they had second and third in the bottom of the seventh and struck out swinging. I I don't want to hear these excuses. They had plenty of chances. A walk wouldn't have got you a run, it wouldn't have tied the game. It it was a walk. So you still nothing like what are we talking about? Like, yeah, you lost, you had plenty of chances, you left eight men on base. I don't want to hear it. So now it's tonight's game. We got Italy playing Venezuela to meet Team USA in the uh semis for the for the medal. I'm still just shocked that Japan lost to Venezuela.
SPEAKER_02That's a b yeah. Steve, what's your reaction from all of it? Like, what do you think? Um, it's been fun to watch, actually. Um I that's I didn't realize that you know, with the Olympics and all this other World Cup stuff going on this year. I mean, I was we were just talking about how the uh the women's basketball, you know, they're in the World Cup as well now. Um, but it's just been fun to watch it. There's been a lot of you know national spirit going on and seeing some of these teams like Japan, you know, who won last year, in case you didn't know, um, losing to you know, losing and getting knocked out in the quarterfinals.
SPEAKER_01I it's it yeah, that Venezuela knocking off Japan, like I didn't even mention that's a great point, man. That's a huge upset. The stuff, what do you think, man?
SPEAKER_03Regarding that last call, uh the same feeling I have for any sport, I don't care what it is, if you don't want it decided on that last play, then don't put yourself in that position.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's that's perfectly said, right? Like you and I have talked about this, Brent. It's like you put yourself in that situation because you didn't execute during the entire game.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they could have easily easily took a W.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I agree, Brent. I a hundred percent. Nick, what were you saying?
SPEAKER_00No, I just they say that stuff in the UFC and boxing, you know, don't leave it in the hands of the judges because you never know like what they saw or didn't see. And if you're if you're gonna if you're gonna leave men on base, like how many other men were left on in scoring position in that game? Several. Yeah. So I'm hoping kind of I'm kind of hoping that uh US faces Italy again. I yeah. I mean, don't isn't like this the wouldn't that make us the best?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if people are gonna hate you. Um no, I agree. I think it's just we're it's like Brandon said, I think we had we had what was it? This it was the NFC championship game between the New Orleans Saints and the LA Rams. Does anybody remember that game? There was a horrible missed call at the end of the game. Oh, that pass interference, pass interference, black arrow. I'm like, yeah, it was brutal.
SPEAKER_02So he was obviously here several seconds before the ball got there.
SPEAKER_01I well, I'm like, I'm sitting here and I'm like, you know what? Let's go back and watch the game and let's watch at how many times the Saints did not execute when they could have. They made so many mistakes in that game that it shouldn't have it shouldn't have even been in that situation. It's like I it was a terrible missed call. I mean, I'm not I'm not debating that, but it should have never gotten to that point. And Nick, you said it, don't leave it in the hands of the judges. It goes on and on and on and on and on and on. Can't man. So, but anyway, um, yeah, I think I would like to see USA and Italy as well. I'm like, like, let's get let's get a revenge game here, right? Boys, I mean it's like let's let's get a revenge game here, but at the same time, it's like, damn, do we want to face Italy again?
SPEAKER_02I guess so. I mean, and I mean listen, well, Venezuela would be an interesting team to face with all the geopolitics going on right now.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, I don't know. But yeah, I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. I think it's gonna be cool. Um, I'd like to see Italy just for the rematch and the revenge game. That's just me personally. Anything else? What do you guys? So, yeah, uh, that's WBC. Um, also, we're gonna stick if you stick with team USA stuff, it's like, hey, sled hockey just won the gold last night as well.
SPEAKER_02Canada's having a very bad year. And have you seen all the memes, like all the chat list?
SPEAKER_01Like, dude, it's so it's listen, baseball dope. We love our neighbors to the north, but uh absolutely just have you're you're just absolutely owned right now, is is you are owned. You are the 50 51st or 50, you know, 51st terror uh state or fifth or fourth territory or whatever you want to say it's like we're we're you're owned right now, it just is what it is.
SPEAKER_03So um this is their fifth gold medal in a row, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that sled hockey team is an absolute like unit. They do not lose. They just they don't lose. That team is an absolute unit.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. Who did they play? I didn't see, I didn't have time to the gold medal.
SPEAKER_03It was for against Canada.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was the USA.
SPEAKER_03Sorry.
SPEAKER_01Oh they lost. It's it's great, it it's amazing. It's great below the line.
SPEAKER_02It's amazing, dude. Apparently, Canada, you know, they lost the Stanley Cup, yeah, they lost the World Series, yeah. And then of course, then there was the Olympics for all the golds, and you know, for the the hockey, yeah, and then now it can you know this WBC.
SPEAKER_01It says zero super bowls. I'm like looking at some of these and I'm like, what? Like, what are we talking about? Um, yeah, it's it's a rough year in Canada, it really is, and it's and it's so amazing. I'm like, like, how do you not love this right now, right? So it's like, but yeah, that is their fifth in a row. They did it in uh Milan Cortina. Um and so yeah, so absolutely amazing. Um, team USA wearing that crest right now is just awesome. Like, teams are killing it. I love it, I think it's amazing. Um, but roll into uh, you know, just baseball. There, just not much, not nothing really big outside of the world baseball classic going on. It's just spring training, it's like guys are getting ready. Um, opening day is just right around the corner. Um, I know it's crazy. I know it's baseball season, dude. It's like already almost not a month. Literally, where I'm at, it's it's snowing right now, like it's absolutely coming down. So it's like, are we yeah, baseball's about to start? But yeah, it is 70 degrees here. What's that? 70 degrees here. Yeah, it was 72 here yesterday.
SPEAKER_00And you got snow today?
SPEAKER_01That's awesome. So no, but yeah, it went from it was 68 this morning, and it's the temperature dropped 40 degrees, it's now 29 and snowing.
SPEAKER_02They canceled school here today. Why because it the wind that's awesome.
SPEAKER_00What what school do your kids go to?
SPEAKER_02The three little school of education, yeah, one of the biggest in the state, Wake County, and then they canceled it because the winds were gonna be over 30 miles, and there was a chance of tornado.
SPEAKER_01That's funny. So, anyway, with that, we roll into uh NHL. Um, we're NHL is getting close, guys. We've got less than 20 games for most teams now um coming down the line. Um, one thing I sent sent you guys the video, the hit on Igor Chernesoff of the San Jose Sharks. They're playing the Montreal Canadiens. Um, it was a game in Montreal, really kind of just innocent contact. But the way the kid went up in the air, you see the video where he hits his head on the ice and literally like slides through the entire neutral zone into their offensive loan, like on his face, out like super cold. Um, and then couldn't stand up. It the part that was scary was he tried to get up, and you could see him try to start to like get to his uh like he kind of had his rear end up in the air, he was trying to get to his knees, but his arms were still limp, and then he stood up, and the refs were like stay down, and then you saw some of his some fans are like, Where's the call? What call?
SPEAKER_02There, yeah, there was no, there wasn't even a hit. There was hardly been a hit, there's more than a lot of things.
SPEAKER_01It looks like he gives him a forearm shiver, but it looked more as just in the active you know, gameplay, a hockey move, yeah, for sure. As a sharks fan, I don't think it was. I don't think there should have been a pony. Like, I like the sharks. I it was kind of just like he went up in the air, hit his head real bad. I mean, it was really just an unfortunate play. But I see fans calling for like suspension. I'm like, no, stop. So um there was that, and then um Austin Matthews down for the year finished, dude. Knee on knee from uh goodness. It was like, oh I hate those, but it didn't uh it just didn't look dirty to me. Anyone got an opinion?
SPEAKER_00If I look at the still of the impact, it looks like he is diving into his knee on purpose.
SPEAKER_01But if you watch the like the actual clip, it's it's kind of a hockey move, but I know it's it's so bang bang, Nick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and what do you think? It could have been very easily unintentional, but it did look I know it did look like he was going for that going for the leg. I mean, not necessarily the knee, but he was going for the look, so he was going for the.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I know. And it's when you're skating it at that rate of speed, I've done it. It's like when you're trying to cut back, it's like sometimes your leg gets out a little bit. It's not like Gudis meant to clip him like that or go knee on knee. It's like the game's so fast, it happens so fast, it's like ugh. But at that level, you are supposed to have, you know, from juniors, triple A juniors all the way up, you're supposed to have control of your body. It is what it is, Brandon. What do you think?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. I've seen deliberate knee on knee, and that's it. Definitely wasn't that. It was it, it just wasn't just a hockey play, just gone bad.
SPEAKER_01And Gudis is not, I don't think he's a dirty player. I mean, he's a tough player.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's definitely a tough guy, but uh, I've never associated him with being dirty.
SPEAKER_01No, I I definitely not. I I agree. Um, yeah, I'm looking at it right again right now, and it's like it's there's already articles like will Matthews become the poster boy for NHL player safety reform. And I'm like, really? I mean, it sucks, but you know, he's out. I guess it was a what was it, torn in ACL or MCL or dude?
SPEAKER_00It's horrible timing, it's like to their star player, it's right in the playoffs.
SPEAKER_01It's in Toronto with like the worst sports media, and some of their fans are awful. I mean, as far as I know, he doesn't have a record of that stadium are hilarious. No, Steve. No.
SPEAKER_02I mean, they even suspended him for this, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was trying to find how many games was it for?
SPEAKER_02Uh that's what I was just looking up, and I can't uh I can't find it either. I don't maybe they haven't given him a number yet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe not. It's like I'm saying had the NHL handed out a 10-game suspension to Goodis, then this would have Oh, five-game. Okay. I mean, I that's I guess that's appropriate. You know what I mean? Like, I I think it it warrants something, obviously. It's such a devastating injury. I've tore my MCL twice playing hockey. It wasn't like full tears or anything, but it was like 70%. Which they called a great a grade two MCL. My last MRI, the doctor was like, hey, you need to your knee looks terrible.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, I can't say they were saying that to you in high school.
SPEAKER_01Can you still get bump line? I know. Um, anyway, so let's not let's not get into that.
SPEAKER_03Um let's like the team meet again on March 30th, so we'll see how and you said Anaheim and Toronto.
SPEAKER_01Anaheim in Toronto, you said? Yeah. And the games in Anaheim, I'm pretty sure. I was looking at that as well.
SPEAKER_00So I'm like, oh um, I want to know, did you guys before we change subjects, real quick, I saw somebody talking about how he's more mad at his entire team that they didn't rush the ice and defend their the player's honor. Like they were all like waiting to watch the replay and see what like panned out. And I've seen it in the past, you know, where somebody goes down hard or somebody hits the goalie hard, and there's five people on that guy making sure that they know that that is unacceptable behavior.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. When Will Smith got hit, San Jose Sharks, when Will Smith got hit and injured, dude, Macklin Cellebrini had his gloves off, and this guy's like taller than him, just going at him. Like I'm like, you're not supposed to do that, little guy. Like, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_02Well, this injury happened so quickly, he spun around and landed. I mean, for all they know, he could have got up the next second and started stating it.
SPEAKER_01It didn't really look like anything happened. And that's that's a quote from Austin Matthews. Is that what you're saying, Nick?
SPEAKER_00No, I was watching some guy, uh, just a guy on YouTube that was talking about he was you know decked out in okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, shut up. Shut up, go away. Like that's a fan that said that. I wouldn't have even given it the time of day, anyway. My bad. Yeah, stop. That's a Toronto fan, Nick. Yeah, stop. Nope. Yeah, never mind. Careful, not even a question.
SPEAKER_02So Canadians are going through enough right now.
SPEAKER_00Yes, can we give them a little voice?
SPEAKER_01Their fan base. Mitch Marner had to call security to protect his wife and daughter. That's the Toronto fan base. They throw their jerseys on the ice. That team owes you nothing. Nothing. You pay for a ticket, you go to the game. Okay? If they don't do what you like, that doesn't give you the right to threaten that guy's fan base. No, I have absolutely no respect for that. Well, that's in any sport. I yeah, and you've heard me go on rants about fan bases in the past. Fans are disgusting and despicable sometimes, honestly. I've got stories all day long. There was a 49er fan in a bathroom. The other 49er looked over at a guy and said, Too much bud Budweiser, Bud Light, right? The guy's buddy forearm, shivers him in the back of the head, knocks him unconscious. These guys beat this guy into a coma. Oh, because 49er fan on 49er fan. Well, that is it was it. I'm like, this guy, this poor guy went to the bathroom, left his wife and two kids, looks over at a guy and says, Budweiser. It was two Hispanic gangbangers. It was, it was bad, dude. Like it was really sad. Guy was in a coma for like a month or something. But anyway, it you can go on and on with every fan base like this. So it's like I'm sure a fancy. I'll have to do that as one of the top five.
SPEAKER_02Top five worst. Who has the word with the top five worst fan bases? Oh, absolutely. And then the week we'll do the top five best.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 100%. It's like just and not listen, I know a lot of good Maple Leaf fans, too. I want to make that clear as well.
SPEAKER_02We'll spend 30 minutes just beating on one type of type of fans.
SPEAKER_01You know, right? So, anyway, back to uh normal. Um, so Buffalo looks amazing. Absolutely, they are just they are a unit right now. Um man, I is Buffalo gonna catch Carolina. I mean, I don't see why not. I are like this is this is insane. They are rolling, dude. They look good. They're not losing many games, guys. Sitting at 41, 20, and six, 88 points. Carolina's uh played one less game, though, and is 42, 18, and six, sitting at 90 points. I'm like, man, Carolina is great, but dude, Buffalo, Brandon said they're 9-1 in the last 10 games. Oh, yeah, dude, they're they're cruising right now. Yeah, you know what I mean. So, and then you've got Pittsburgh's up and down right now, but you know, they were without Malkin for five games, and then they've got Crosby still on the shelf. Um, and then at the bottom of the standings, you've just got Ottawa and Columbus are playing good hockey. And Detroit, I mean, Detroit's sliding a little bit. Nick, how do you feel about Detroit right now?
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm hoping it's a short-lived little slide. Uh, we're currently what? We're wild card two spot right now, only one point above the blue jackets.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the jackets have one game in hand, too, by the way. They win one. You guys, so you guys, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh, we it's it's a horrible time for anybody to have any kind of slide. So you can only hope that it's short-lived and that they get you know their heads back together. We have some great leadership in that on that rink. Um, you know, with yeah, Larkin. Uh oh, yeah, no, Detroit's a great experience and playoffs for the people that have been around. Like, we just we need to rally around the guys that know what's up.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, absolutely, and then in the West, um man, Dallas looks like they're going on another winning streak. It's it it's I think well. Utah's on the slide right now, I know. Yeah. Utah's kind of slide down. And here's the thing. You look at so you look at uh let's go all right, let's start with Nashville's at 67 points. They are three spots out of the bottom wildcard spot, right? You look up, they're only seven points behind Edmonton and eight points behind Vegas, and only nine points behind the top spot. I know nine points, you're talking about four and a half games there, but that's how much that part of the West can fluctuate in just a second. And then you got San Jose sitting at 65 games played. They have two games in hand on a couple of teams, and three games in hand on Edmonton. So they win three games, they knock Edmonton, the Oilers, out of the playoffs. That's how much this is like all over the place. Stuff, how do you feel about the West?
SPEAKER_03No, I think the West is just all up for graphs. I think the Central is pretty much set though. The stars and wild.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the Aves are still just they're at 97 points. They're so far ahead of everybody else. But you've got Dallas. Dallas is Dallas is only three points behind Colorado. They've gone on these runs. If I look way into this, man, guys, they have not lost a lot of hockey games in the last month.
SPEAKER_02No, according to the thing, they're nine-zero-one in the last game. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It it started January 20th-ish. They lost, uh, they beat, they beat Boston, then lost to Columbus, and then they went on an absolute run. As we know, they won like what I think it was that ended at 11 games, was that win streak. So yeah, they're just they're they're a unit, they're gelling really well right now. And at the right time, I like I would like to see a team that's gonna go on a run in the cup, like really start to win like a week, like just start to gel a week before the the cup playoff start, and you just cruise right on through it. I mean, that's usually I think what happens. It's like any team, any one of these teams can go on a run.
SPEAKER_03Uh, Thursday, I'll be attending the Vegas, Utah game. Awesome. So it should be a good game.
SPEAKER_01Well, now I gotta ask this. I gotta ask this question. What jersey are you wearing that night?
SPEAKER_03Oh, what jersey?
SPEAKER_01What jersey? What sweater are you are you on in there, buddy?
SPEAKER_03I'm wearing that uh jersey.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't even know yet.
SPEAKER_03He doesn't decide yet. Maybe I'll just bake.
SPEAKER_00Change your jersey, change your sweater every period.
SPEAKER_01There you go. Okay, so I I was at uh Buffalo Sabres game in Buffalo, and they were uh God, they were playing a Western Conference team. I honestly I think it was Edmonton. If I yeah, it was Edmonton. This was when Eichel was still with the Sab, and this was McDavid versus Eichel, okay? And a guy shows up in a sabres jersey, and he's you know, everything's going well, but Edmonton is winning the game. Halfway through the second period, he takes off the Sabres jersey and he's got an Edmonton Oilers jersey. That's the way to do it. So it's I've seen it happen. I've seen it happen. So is that what you're gonna do, or do you really not know what jersey you're wearing? I really don't know which one I'm gonna be wearing. Okay. Well, folks, look forward on YouTube for Brandon's the Stuffed Trainers vlog on the Utah versus Vegas um game. That vlog will come out, I'm sure, a few days after he's in attendance for that game. Uh, don't forget to go over and check out our YouTube channel. We also have a TikTok like, follow, and subscribe. We appreciate. And uh, I try to engage on TikTok side at least. Um, with everybody's questions, if you have you know ideas, um constructive criticism. Also, also, we we take the the good, the bad, and the ugly. So, but uh no, we have a lot of great content. Some of our uh podcast videos are over on our YouTube channel. Um, Brandon the Stuff Trainer does all of our editing, which we greatly appreciate. He does a lot of work behind the scenes, so um, but anyway, yeah, so hockey. I think we've got a couple more weeks. Like I said, all teams are sitting right around 18 games left. Um, even some sitting at like 16. So, um, again, a lot of exciting stuff in hockey. Anyone uh have any bold predictions for the next week? Is anybody gonna make a jump? Is anybody gonna slide, Steve? What do you think?
SPEAKER_02I think Utah is not gonna make the playoffs. I just don't they don't think they have enough scoring capability. Just think they're faltering too much. Yeah, I just and I don't think they have it. I mean, I just don't think they can score enough to to make the playoffs, and if they do not to go very, they're not gonna go very far.
SPEAKER_01Um remember, this is an Arizona, this was the Arizona Coyotes just two years ago. They were kind of they were in the process of rebuilding, so it's like what we're talking, you know, they're they're on the up and up, they've got a great young team, whether they they're right in the same boat as Montreal, San Jose, Columbus. Columbus is a little ahead. I think they're gonna make the last box of teams that are gonna be great through the 30s, I think. Um Brandon, what do you think?
SPEAKER_03I think in the West, where you're not gonna know that gets into that wild card until the very last day.
SPEAKER_01I mean, how many years have we seen it where, yeah, it's literally game 82 has to get played in order that and it with that 2012 LA Kings for all of the fans out there that have a team that's maybe gonna be that bottom wild card spot or what it should be is the eight spot. Don't forget that in 2012 the LA Kings got into the playoffs because two other teams lost. That catapulted them up into the number eight spot. The Kings went on to finish and hoist the cup with a record of 16 and 4. They beat the number one seed, the number two seed, and then the number three seed in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and then beat Jersey in six. So that means that they lost two games in the Stanley Cup final. So in route to the Stanley Cup final, they only lost two games against the one, two, and three seed in the West. And if I remember correctly, the one seed was also the president's trophy winner that year. Look at Brandon digging out this anything is possible. Hockey knowledge. Anything is possible. So in this tournament, all you got to do is get in. Nick, what do you have to say?
SPEAKER_00Um, well, I just want to tell didn't in uh 2023, just a couple years ago, weren't the Florida Panthers like the last ones in the playoffs, too?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, another bottom seed. Yep. Another bottom seed. It's it's fun. You remember that whole thing with Kachuk, and he did, he like uh ran to the door, he's like busting five after he won the game in overtime. I remember that was a great, that was a fun run, and that was kind of that bunch is really their coming out party. Yeah, you're absolutely right. I don't know if they were an eight, though.
SPEAKER_00Were they an eight? Uh I just uh it just says here, remember the Panthers, 2023 Panthers uh as the last team in the playoffs? Yeah, so they must have been an eight then, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean it's been a last coming in.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. I'm excited to see, I want to make sure my wings make it because I'd like to watch some wing postseason hockey because it's been a minute. Um, but I think the Columbus Blue Jackets are gonna surprise some people. Uh, I'm excited to see a team come out of the Pacific and do some magic. You you think you think Columbus over Ottawa?
SPEAKER_01I like Ottawa personally, but I'm with you.
SPEAKER_02I like Ottawa over I'll be honest.
SPEAKER_00I mean, Columbus is in front of them right now. I've watched more blue jackets games uh this season, so I have more in for I have I've just seen them more. So yeah, I'm gonna do with my blue jackets, but uh I think they're gonna pull some magic. That's my Cinderella pick. Okay. Already got a Cinderella pick. I like even though I don't even know if they're gonna make the playoffs. We have we gotta wait, you know, two more weeks.
SPEAKER_01I I know it's absolutely, I know, I know. Um, anyway, before we get into the NFL and the moves that were made this week, also we've got now the NC2A tournament is about to begin. Bracketology. Have you guys done a bracket?
SPEAKER_03I have a bracket. I haven't like placed the team.
SPEAKER_02I haven't yeah, I haven't completed it as it's not. Yeah, I know I'm working on it.
SPEAKER_01Um, a lot of crazy stuff in championship week. There's one University of Miami, Ohio, 31 and 1 and didn't make the tournament. That's insane. So that is insane. I know that no, they but here's the thing it they were ranked 20th in the country at 31 and 0 because they just haven't played anybody, guys. It's the Matt Conference, it's very weak. Um, and then they lost in their tournament. In their conference tournament, they lost, they got embarrassed by one of the bottom seats. So it's like, no, they don't that right there shows yeah, you're gonna get smoked.
SPEAKER_02I'm looking at all these North Carolina teams in the brackets, too. Oh, yeah, there's like US.
SPEAKER_01Listen, Duke looks very, very gonna be very difficult, but they almost lost during championship week. Florida State, they only beat them by one point, so there's a lot of stuff like you know, those conference tournaments, they ruin some dreams.
SPEAKER_02The tar Hills can very easily lose the VCU, too.
SPEAKER_01Yep. I was looking at some of the games, and I'm like, oh, there's I think there's gonna be a couple of first round upsets. Just my opinion. Um, the stuff. You have any stuff? What do you got? What do you are you are you are you interested in the NC2A basketball tournament, or are you just like UNLV's not in it? Screw them. That's kind of where my head was at.
SPEAKER_03Well, UNLV hasn't been in it for a minute, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01That pro I don't even want to get started on UNLV's basketball program. Like that, we it needs to be be fixed, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, can't sit there and you know you I'm mostly L. U N L B go fight win.
SPEAKER_03Sorry, but I've always preferred college basketball over the NBA.
SPEAKER_01I still don't want to talk about the NBA. I'm so I it gets just worse every week. I just I'm so sad by what that league has become. Um, yeah, dude, it's it is, it's fun, right? Bracketology, you got oh my gosh, who's gonna is anybody gonna? There's been like what four perfect brackets in the history of doing brackets, it's insane.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah, I've I at one time I knew what the like the statistics were of making a perfect bracket. It's like what it's worse than winning like a billion-dollar lottery ticket.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's insane, dude. It really is insane. So I don't know. And like I said, it's not a huge fan, but like a fan from afar, right? Of college basketball, again, I think it's great. Um, I man, I I Duke's gonna be really hard, but so is Florida, and again, Florida I just got beat in their conference tournament, I believe, but they're still a one.
SPEAKER_02We can never leave out the Wildcats either. Arizona Wildcats. Kentucky Wildcats. No, the Arizona Wildcats. Oh, that's they always have a tendency to do well when it comes to the and they were a really good team at one point in the season.
SPEAKER_01Where did they end up, Steve? What's their rank? Number one. Okay, they are a one. Yeah. I here's the thing. Arizona, yeah. If there's a team that I think that can beat Duke, I think it is Arizona. Um, but at the same time, it's like, does a second round upset Ohio State over Duke? Does that just sound like something that oh that's a headline? Oh man. Yeah, I mean that's Nick.
SPEAKER_00Anything? Anything else? Uh I finally pick up college basketball at the end of March. Um I I it's too much sports going on that I put priority on to get all these games. So I I I suffer because I don't have the lead up to the big dance. I just watch the dance and try to figure out what the music is. You know what?
SPEAKER_01I think that's a lot of people though. Yeah, it is. There's a lot of people out there. That's why the final the final four is such a big event because that's what it is. You have a lot of the people that don't, you know, follow college basketball religiously, like we do hockey and football and baseball, right?
SPEAKER_02And so I know a lot of people don't even watch college basketball until uh the brackets come out.
SPEAKER_01I I know people like that as well. Yep. So yeah, I agree, Steve. I think Nick, I think there's more people than that are like that than you'd think.
SPEAKER_00Obviously, we'll watch the dance and get some get some more uh discussion points going on, but I just hope being somebody that came to Arizona and uh lived with ASU alum. I really hope U of A finds something and screws it up because we don't like them winning. Dude, I'm I'm married to you are yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I married to an Arizona State University Sundevil. She doesn't like it when I make fun of the uh sorry. I hope she doesn't watch this. You know she is. She is she watches she watches everything and reads all the comments. So I just I just did what is gonna make her mad. All I'm gonna hear is Brandon Michael, Brandon, Brandon Michael.
SPEAKER_00So if the if the stuff, if we could go ahead and just clip that part out and put that right on TikTok, that'd be great.
SPEAKER_01Brandon, what were you gonna say?
SPEAKER_03As far as you know, people not watching, I've always felt like to me it's odd that basketball, both professional and college, is a winter sport. I think it'd be better off if they started in January and finished in the summer.
SPEAKER_01Finished in the summer. It's not I I mean, scheduling wise, it's not a terrible idea.
SPEAKER_03Uh you know, yeah, it's just always seemed like you know, it's an outdoor sport. You play in a park and whatnot. Why are you playing in the middle of winter?
SPEAKER_01Well, it's a gym thing, you know what I mean? Like you can say the same about hockey. It's like you know, you can play it, you know, outside and you can do inline hockey, but yeah, I get what you're saying. It's not yeah, it's not terrible, especially for college basketball. So I think it comes down to scheduling, you know, college baseball starts in February. It's actually the season's already started, like they're already in full swing, you know, stuff like that. I think it just has to do with school and and that kind of type of scheduling, but I don't know. But anyway, well, let us know in the comments what uh uh right right here. Let us know what you think. If you got a team who's the front runner, let us know. Leave a comment. Um, and don't forget to like, follow, and subscribe. YouTube, TikTok, and all of our podcasts is on every single platform. So get over there and subscribe so you can hear us every week. We appreciate all of your support.
SPEAKER_00Was that kind of was that too that's a little ASMR for me, but too weird.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was weird, right?
SPEAKER_00Hello, and don't forget to support us.
SPEAKER_01Hello, and thank you for calling movie phone. Yes, I can do movie phone, I can do many ridiculous voices. So, anyway, so um NFL, we did have a uh NFL free agency is kind of getting crazy, right? Um, there's been some great what'd you guys think of Daniel Jones? Daniel Jones got what two years, a hundred a hundred million. I'm like, they really believe in Daniel Jones, especially because he's not even gonna be their quarterback for till like what week 12 or 14. So, and then I uh here's my thing. So the Jets, for those of you that don't know, have acquired quarterback Geno Smith. Where Gino Smith, I he's I I don't understand how that guy does not have PTSD from being a jet because it was so bad, and then he goes and has success with two other squads, and it's like first of all, I don't think the Raiders should have got rid of her. I I why why not keep Gino and let him play another year while this kid develops? I think it's terrible. Um real quick, just uh defensive signings. You had uh edge rusher Jalen Phillips um gets four years, 120 million. Um, and then the Panthers that's with the Panthers. The Panthers also got linebacker Devin Lloyd, three years $45 million.
SPEAKER_02Um, just looking at the Texans, Houston, man. They have well, they have well, I'm looking at like about 15 signings. Oh, yeah. There's teams going nuts, and they're really working on their defense. I yeah, let's see.
SPEAKER_01The uh still trying to the Eagles are working to extend tight end Dallas. Godert and uh Goddard, sorry, Godert linebacker, um, Arnold. I can't, I'm not even gonna try to do that last name. So a lot of big moves. Um, here's the one thing that I I'm kind of leading up to here. What is wrong with Matt Crosby? Why did that deal fall through? That's what I was gonna bring up. I and then the Ravens go out and still sign uh an absolute unit. So it's like I what happened to your brain? Go ahead. Uh from what I hear, he didn't he didn't pass the physical. No, it wasn't a physical thing. That's why I'm asking, like, what could possibly be wrong? Is it a surgically repaired knee? I mean, they were giving up a lot of a lot, yeah. I mean is I mean, it could be anything.
SPEAKER_02I it's just man, I I just think that's that's I'm surprised we haven't heard yet exactly what it was on why he's that's what I mean.
SPEAKER_01I it's that's not gonna come out, Steve. There's no way that comes out, you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_02I'm just why not? I mean, the rest of the league already knows. Obviously, the owners and like and the coaches already know, so why can't the fans know?
SPEAKER_01Because I think they'd some just probably something they want to keep quiet, you know what I mean. I I don't know. I I just either way, it's it's that's pretty crazy. So he's staying with the Raiders. Yeah, Brandon. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03No, that was just definitely gonna be a done deal.
SPEAKER_01It's I we haven't seen this happen very often.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's very rare.
SPEAKER_01Seen it in baseball. Um, who was Carlos Correa? Remember, Carlos Correa got signed by the Mets, they said no, then the Giants signed, or the Giants signed him first, the Giants said no because of the physical. Then he gets signed by the Mets, and then a week later, the Mets are like, No, we're not doing it either. Remember that? So we ended up back with the twins, and so I remember that deal, but it's like uh and that was a big player, too. It's just kind of like, oh, it's gotta be his knee. When did the Titans change their logo? What's so anyway? I it's um let's see. You know what? The Arizona Cardinals have made a bunch of moves. I mean, Steve, they went out and got Gardner Minshew. I mean, that's your team's just turning right around, man. I know, right? They're gonna be contenders next year with that. I mean, they got Kendrick Bourne. I mean, this team is they're losing it. No, I'm just kidding. They're listening they're rebuilding, man. They got they it's it's gonna be it's gonna be we've been saying they've been rebuilding for three years now. It's like the everlasting like rebuild. It's like, oh my god. Um, yeah, I the the Ravens. I I love Max Crosby, but dude, Trey Hendrickson is a unit, dude. That dude is legit. Um, what was it? Four years, 112 million, 60 million dollars guaranteed. Um, they also went out and got a Jalen Hawkins, kind of like a depth guy. Sorry to say this again, but did anybody know that the Tennessee Titans just changed their logo again?
SPEAKER_02I'm looking at it.
SPEAKER_01Tennessee with three stars now. Just then, the Tennessee Titans have changed their logo. Steve Wood is on uh scene. Steve, what can you tell us about the new logo?
SPEAKER_02Nothing. That's my problem.
SPEAKER_01I didn't even know they were changing it. I honestly had no idea, buddy. I had absolutely no idea.
SPEAKER_00What do you guys think about uh Justin Fields going to the Chiefs? Yeah. I think it's an interesting combination with him and Mahomes as a backup.
SPEAKER_01Probably gonna be their starter next year, honestly, because yeah, Mahomes is out until 2016.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Depending on really recovery goes, but with them getting the running back and then now signing fields. I mean, it keeps them in contention until Mahomes comes back. Absolutely gonna be a running team next year. 100%. I mean, it's a really by it's a really good move for I hate to say it. And here's the thing, but it's a really good move, Steve.
SPEAKER_01Also, if you look at it, their offense, Mahomes doesn't sling it downfield. He doesn't push the ball like hard downfield. He can't, he got the arm, he's got a monster arm. But like, dude, a lot of their offense is inside 20 yards and it's you know short pieces, 10 yards. Yo, yeah. Oh, yeah, they're really successful at it. So you add a lot of bootlegs. You add a quarterback like Fields, who not a great quarterback, but he's an amazing athlete, and he can tuck it and go. So, yeah, I I think it's kind of he'll fit well into the into their into that whole scheme, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then the Niners got Christian Kirk. That's another wide receiver that they just added to go over there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they added a wide receiver. They also um, so they what did they do? Where is it? Um they traded, they got a def another defensive interior defensive lineman. He is not gonna be a guy who gets a bunch of sacks, but he's one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league. It's stopping the run, I guess. Um trying to find it here. I'm trying to there it is. Um defensive tackle, Osa.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, don't even try that.
SPEAKER_01I cannot say his last name, it's absolutely insane. Um, but anyway, they got him uh for a 2026 third round pick. Like I said, he's not a you know, rushing rush the quarterback. He's not gonna get a ton of sacks, but he's he's a big boy and he's great at stopping the run inside. So I I like it. I think it's a good one. Um, let's see. There's just there's just so much, guys. I mean, it's like you know, it's all over the place.
SPEAKER_00The Bears did a lot. Go ahead. No, no, no, go ahead. I was I was just gonna say that um so my son has a Jacksonville Jaguars like flag football jersey shirt, and so he likes to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars. I hate that they let ETN go. Dude, yeah, I think I have nobody coming in.
SPEAKER_01No, I why why didn't you have to have been an ETN thing?
SPEAKER_00Dude, I don't know what's going on.
SPEAKER_01I man, I'm gonna tell you what. I yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me. Um he ends up in New Orleans. Um, hang on, I'm right here. Four years 52 million. A great signing by New Orleans. New Orleans also picked up a guard, an offensive guard, David Edwards, four years 61 million. That's a huge signing. I I would have loved for like a team that I like. I if I'm if I'm a Saints fan, I'm like, that's huge. That's a huge signing. Um they picked up linebacker Caden and Ellis, three years 33 million um performance bonuses. It can go up to 39. I like they've made they've made a few good moves. The Saints have. I think they're doing well in their rebuild. Um who else? The Patriots got Romeo Dobbs. I that's huge. That's another big, that's another good receiver. I mean, he's at like a two or three, but that's no, Romeo Dobbs is like a solid two, right?
SPEAKER_02Nick, your uh your Bears did a lot of uh defensive signings.
SPEAKER_00Uh we've been we're on track to be good again next year, boys.
SPEAKER_02They're really strengthened, they're really working on strengthening the the first and second string for their their defense there.
SPEAKER_00And that's not good in the draft.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of the NFC the Miami Dolphins, they went out and got a big name quarterback, Malik Willis. Sorry, nothing against Malik Willis.
SPEAKER_00I hope you have all the success in the world, buddy. I really do. Um, going back to the NFC North, who's going to be the starting quarterback in Minnesota? You got Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy.
SPEAKER_01I still it's JJ McCarthy. No, but here's the thing uh if they feel like they rushed JJ, benching him might be the right move. Let him develop a little bit more.
SPEAKER_00Not to not football player like Kyler.
SPEAKER_01No, not to have not to have mentorship of Kyler Murray. It doesn't have to be a mentorship, he can develop. That's the whole point of it. Let Kyler Murray go out there and compete and you know be the vet. And no, just let JJ develop. Not every quarterback is gonna go out and be a stud on day one. They hunt him out to try. They lost a couple offensive linemen. He's dude, no, let him sit, let him develop, build your offensive line, build your team up.
SPEAKER_02I don't think we're gonna bring him along.
SPEAKER_00I guess my point was is that you know, you see these backup quarterbacks that become successful, like uh Aaron Rodgers, who worked well under a star quarterback. And I'm saying JJ McCarthy doesn't have that star quarterback really to look up to in the Vikings organization right now. Um JJ doesn't have that if he's gonna huh?
SPEAKER_01Neither did Josh Allen.
SPEAKER_00Josh Allen. Yeah, tons of them. He didn't have a guy.
SPEAKER_01He sat behind him though, and they bought him along.
SPEAKER_00I guess I'm just saying that he doesn't have an awesome starting quarterback if Kyler's gonna be the starter to be like, oh, okay, let's go play quarterback and let's figure some stuff out at practice. Nah, all he needs is a good coach, right guys around him.
SPEAKER_01That's yeah, I I think it'll be all right. I really do. So, and I but yeah, I I think it'll be Kyler Murray, or or they're gonna bring him in to compete and it sparks something under JJ. So I still think your future is JJ McCarthy. You know, there's all those fans out there that just, you know, they again, they're fans, they're they turn on guys just at the drop of a hat just because they put on a bad performance. It's like you see it all the time. Man, he's trash, he's terrible. He didn't get me my 200 yards following week. Man, I love this guy.
SPEAKER_03Greatest player ever.
SPEAKER_01Shut up. So, um, anyway, yeah. So there's been a lot of stuff going on NFL. It's I I still think we'll probably see some more moves, obviously. Um I haven't looked into it quite enough to be like who is winning the offseason. I think there's a bunch of teams that are that kind of doing well. Other teams, you know, are just kind of staying like right where they are. It's like the Detroit Lions. I I don't think they need to make a lot of moves. Who do they lose? Uh David Montgomery left, right? But you know, you just go now to a single back deal. But I I really think yeah, you've got certain teams that are just they're good, you know. You don't have to tweak it too much, you know. Yeah, Seattle hasn't hardly done anything this uh they lost two big players on offense and defense, but you know they've only signed it, looks like signed six players, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But they they lost two big pieces, and one, two, three, three of those were re-signs. Yeah, so players left.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I mean Seattle's not gonna be as good next year. They'll still be a unit, but um the Browns again, the Browns went out and got Zion Johnson three years again, another great guard. Like, I love that signing, that's just such a great signing. So it's like, you know, but it's it is still, it's you know, it's the Browns, and uh something's gotta give there, right? I mean, it's like I feel like they've got such a good defense. It's like that team is uh, I think a quarterback and maybe a couple of uh you know offensive weapons away from you know being a playoff team. You know, I really, really believe that. Um, no, I don't think either quarterback that's on that roster right now is no, you do I know there's fans out there that are very emotional about this. You do not have your franchise quarterback in Cleveland. I'm sorry to tell you that. Um, it has nothing to do with anything other than they're not good NFL quarterbacks, they're great athletes, they're in the NFL. No, your future is not there yet. Now, what they will get you though is no more than two to three wins and a chance at a high draft pick, maybe a Manning. What do you think about a Manning in Cleveland?
SPEAKER_00Or does Manning pull what his brother or his uncle did? And just thinking the same thing.
SPEAKER_01Like watch they do all this, and then it's like, yeah, I'm not going to Cleveland. You can trade me. Yep, I'll play for I'll I'll play for the Puerto Rico Sharks. That's fine. I'll go there. Yeah, I'm not going to Cleveland.
SPEAKER_03Play for the CFL.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, even better. But no, I I just I think they're they're so close. I really do. Um, their defense keeps them in so in it in so many games. Their defense is a top three defense to the NFL. They're so close. They got a new coach. Hopefully, this works out. I know Cleveland fans have probably heard that montage so many times. So, anyway, um, we'll look forward to another busy week. Um, we've got the tournament we're gonna have be reporting on the first and second round of the NC2A tournament on our next episode. Um I hope you guys are enjoying and go out and enjoy the weekend. I mean, it's gonna be great. We have more again. We'll be back another week in the NHL. Um, but right now we are going to close out this episode with another top five. Let's do it. We are going with the top five greatest sports rivalries, in our opinion, right now. Let's rock and roll. So, again, the greatest sports rivalries, it can be anything. Because I've got some zingers. Um of the criteria just from me personally was how long has the rivalry been going on? Um, I'm not gonna pick rivalries that were maybe for five to ten years. I'm picking rivalries that have been rivalries for either decades or you know, otherwise. There was some great sports rivalries out there. Um, like Knicks, Red Wings, and the Colorado Avalanche lasted for four years. Great, yeah, not a great sports rivalry. Um, we've got then you had the sharks and red wings again. That lasted for 12 years. Not on my list because it's too short. I'm doing ones that oh, you have really long. I'm going, yeah, these are real sports rivalries. When these teams get together, bad stuff happens in the stands outside. These teams grow into not liking each other. When you sign with this team, you know that you cannot like that team. That's where my list is gonna go. But tell us your list as well. It can be some other ones that you just like and that you get up for and get excited about, in your opinion. Please leave in likes. Um, give us a like and leave a comment what your top five is, or even your greatest sports rivalry of all time. With that said, 54321, Steve, you are gonna be up first. What is your number five, buddy?
SPEAKER_02Um, this one I just had to go with this one for recently because Canada versus US.
SPEAKER_00Because that was at the top on the top of my mind when we were talking about it. Fantastic. All five of my answers are now Steve's answer.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely great number five, Steve. Absolutely great number five. Um it it really is absolutely wonderful. Love it. All right, the stuff.
SPEAKER_03Well, we might only pick one one rivalry from each sport because there's so many. I yeah, absolutely. I yeah. So and I picked off based just which ones entertain me the most. Number five for me is uh Packers versus Bears. The great one. Yep, sorry, number five.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I didn't even make my top five. Um great rivalry. The black and blue division, right? Always been always been great.
SPEAKER_00Literally since the beginning of the NFL.
SPEAKER_01What's that?
SPEAKER_00Literally since the beginning of the NFL. Yeah, literally the beginning of the NFL. It's on my list.
SPEAKER_03Um doesn't matter how good the teams are doing, you're always gonna get an entertaining game between them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and that's what I mean. That's what we're talking about. Like this grows into it, you know what I mean? Like, fans are crazy, the but the players they could not have anything to do with that fan base growing up or anything, but when they come into it, they're like, Yeah, I have to hate this team. So, Nick, what is your number five?
SPEAKER_00Number five, we're gonna start with baseball. And I went Yankees Red Sox, Yankees, Red Sox. I it I think it should be on everybody's list. Uh, I mean, it's we've had some great, you know, uh come from behind uh World Series victories, went down three games to zero, and they won. I mean, the names that have gone through these two places and they've swapped teams between the two. It's just been it's been a great rivalry for decades.
SPEAKER_01I yeah, completely agree. Um my number five is gonna be Duke, North Carolina, NCT basketball. Uh every time that game, I don't I don't even care if you don't like basketball. That's a fun thing to watch. When you're even watching on TV, and this is also like you guys, you guys know I I travel and I do a lot of stadiums. I've been to a lot of events, big events, Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup final. This one's on my bucket list is to go to this game at Duke. I you just watch that game, and it's like the energy, you're just like, Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you should see it when it you should see when they play each other. Like, like if they ever come up um playing each other in the bracket. Oh, yeah. Even the town here, it's it gets crazy.
SPEAKER_01It's it's it's nuts. So yeah, my number five is Duke versus North Carolina. Uh, again, the history of it, it's always an entertaining game on TV. Doesn't matter who's in it. When it's when they're fighting for something, it's even more fun. But anyway, that's my number five. So, Steve, moving on. What is number four, buddy?
SPEAKER_02Number four for me, uh, just because I'm an old this is when I watched basketball, the NBA and old fan bulls Celtics. The Bulls and Celtics, yes. Okay, yeah, not LA and the Celtics, but the Bulls and the Celtics.
SPEAKER_00Dude, I almost put Bulls pistons on here, but it was only like kind of like Brandon said. Uh, it wasn't long enough, yeah. It was whenever Jordan played, like those years. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Brandon, what's your number four?
SPEAKER_03Uh it just got said, NBA, but and I've talked about the rival before, but like Lakers and Celtics, not Celtics.
SPEAKER_01Great one, great, great rivalry. Um, if you haven't watched the show Showtime, um, about the dynasty and the rise of the LA Lakers, Gary Bust, it's got some great actors in it. Um, go and check it out. It's that a lot of that is the Celtics Lakers rivalry back then. It if it was either the Celtics or the Lakers that were winning championships back then, it's insane. You go into that building, the Boston Garden or Staples Center, and you just look at the banners, the amount that are from that area from those two teams. Yeah, that's a special rivalry, Brandon. Good number four.
SPEAKER_03For me, that's peak NBA.
SPEAKER_01I yeah, that's really I agree. Yeah, Nick, what's your number four, buddy?
SPEAKER_00No, this is because I lived in Colorado for a couple years. Um, and so I got to experience it. But I'm gonna go with Raiders Broncos.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good one.
SPEAKER_00Dude, when we would go to those games, my friends would be like, Hey, bring your brass knuckles. I'm like, I don't have brass knuckles. What are we doing? It's a football game. Like it was like, are you ready for combat?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That's and that's crazy. And that's my number four is um Ohio State and Michigan college football. Um, again, the the length of that rivalry again is man, great, great, great sports rivalry. Um, one of the best. Um, yeah, one of the best in all of sports is that game. Um at Ohio State, they cross out in red every single M on a street sign uh building. Oh, all of them. And Michigan does kind of the same type of stuff. It's the schools are it's just an electric atmosphere. If you just go on campus during one of those games, it's insane. Like, go go tailgate. I tell people just go tailgate. It's it's wild. So um, yeah, Brandon or sorry, Steve, what is your number three, Bubba?
SPEAKER_02My number three was Duke vs. Carolina. Um, awesome. I think I'm gonna change my number two since that one's already been taken to, but yeah, it's especially now living here in North Carolina. Yeah, that rivalry is very big, especially for the locals. I yeah, and I and you can actually throw in NC State in there too. Yeah, well, no matter who they're playing, which one they're playing. Uh, but that's also a big rival. Anything anything to do with NC State.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, that's absolutely so I I like it. Um, Brandon, what's your number three, Bubba?
SPEAKER_03My number three, old school one going to MLB with Yankees versus Red Sox. Yeah, it's a great one.
SPEAKER_01It is yeah, that is absolutely that's a fantastic one, man. Um awesome, Nick.
SPEAKER_00What is your number three? Number three. Uh, I've lived in both of these cities, and it's going to be the Chicago Cubs versus St. Louis Cardinals. St.
SPEAKER_01Louis Cardinals. Hey, I I've got to, I went to uh I was the game I went to at Wrigley. I've only been there once. Um, was a Sunday night game. Um Cardinals. Yeah, Cardinals won it in 11, I think. It's heated on a home run. It it's and it's fun, man. Like uh you go again, the the stadium atmospheres are really what makes this. And it's like you get into Wrigleyville during one of those games, and it was a nationally televised game. What an experience, what a game. Went to Harry Carey's right across, uh just outside the uh you know, right field wall, absolutely, and kind of down a little bit, but anyway, uh absolutely incredible. Wrigleville Cardinals Cubs in July. It was awesome. What a great either stadium, it's like 50-50. You know, oh yeah, it was well, there was a lot of Cubs at this one. I mean, but it was a lot of fun. Like all the Cardinal fans of the Bleachers, like that was to me. I was like, these guys have balls. Like, like, don't go out. That's like going and dealing with the Yankee fans, the Bleachers. That's an electric atmosphere. It's a lot of fun, even like in the Yankees, they do roll call and it's it's fun. But uh anyway, yeah, great uh great number three for me. Uh number three is uh taking it to the ice, Montreal Canadians versus Boston Bruins. This thing's been going on a hundred years. I you know, not actually, but I'm just saying, yeah, what an absolute even today, like it's a uh just a rivalry that stood the test of time. Like they just the fan bases hate each other. It's like, but I feel like Montreal fan base hates everybody. You want to talk about a lunatic fan base, Montreal, the Habs fans, it they're very passionate, and it's like they uh you having an objective conversation about their team is impossible. I mean it's impossible. And and then you add in the the Boston just fan base, it's just a recipe for disaster sometimes. And if both teams are uh it playoff teams, it's uh one of those series that it's like if you ever have the opportunity to go to a Habs uh Bruins game, just do it. I I don't care why you're in Montreal, but if they're playing each other, it's like I don't care if it's 200 bucks, 300 bucks, get a ticket. Yeah, so anyway, Steve, what is your Number two, Bubba.
SPEAKER_02My number two was Green Bay versus Chicago, but I think I'm gonna swap that out and I'm gonna go with something that closer to the NFL West would be the 49ers in the Seattle.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Yeah, I that's it's it's a rough one. It's a rough game to be at if you're up in Seattle.
SPEAKER_02It's always a physical game. It's always it's yeah, yeah, it really is.
SPEAKER_01It's funny. This is Seattle fans, folks. So I forget it was Navarro Bowman. 49ers Seattle, very bitter rivalry, 2012 and 13. Um it's an NFC championship game, I believe. And Navarro Bowman makes a stop, but just his knee explodes, destroys his knee, is out the whole next season, I think. Anyway, they're carting him off. He's on a cart, being wheeled off the field as he gets into the tunnel. And what do you think happened? Garbage, beer poured on him, thrown at him. If you look up the highlight, it's one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen a fan base do. I do not care how much you don't like the other team for really no reason. To do an act like that is just you're just a despicable human being. Anyway, yeah, so that's that rivalry. So that's a pretty good uh hey man. That's a great number two. I just yeah, I respect that one. That one's that one's up there for sure. Um the stuff. What do you got at number two, Bubba?
SPEAKER_03My number two is a shorter rivalry compared to others, but every game they played against each other was a much watched, must-watch game. Okay, at their turn in. So we're going to NHL with the Avalanche and Red Wings.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm I get it.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I think that's a good one. It was a short one. Sure, but was that you never knew what was gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00It was, I mean, man, yeah, it was it was so it was so bitter. Dude, I could I could still probably name six players from each of those teams. Uh, I we used to go, I lived in Colorado during when Iserman and Federoff were both on the wings.
SPEAKER_01They just god, they I mean, they just yeah, those two teams, they it wasn't even the fan base, like those teams hated each other. If you look up that there was a dirty hit, and then the next year, the response. I god, what was it like? It I think it either set an NHL record or came close to penalty minutes in a game. There was one point where I think they had talked about just stopping the game, it was just absolutely insane. There was a game like that in the playoffs, uh, NHL, the Stanley Cup playoffs not too long ago. Um, it was between the pens and the flyers, and that was like that. I remember that game, I think towards the end of the game, there was seven players on one bench and like five. I'm like, oh my god. Anyway, those games are very entertaining, but yeah, that was a great that's a great uh great number two. Uh Nick, what's your number two, buddy?
SPEAKER_00Uh number two going to back to football. Shout out to my buddy Matt Beaks. Um, doing Steelers Ravens.
SPEAKER_01Steelers and Ravens. Again, if you put all of our lists together, these are great picks. Absolutely great. Yeah, that's that's a fun one, too. That's always one that you want to turn on and watch.
SPEAKER_00It's the D they've both been defensive-minded teams, the defensive-minded coaches. They both had success. Like it was always bang bang. Loved it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nope. I completely agree. Um, absolutely great, great pick. Great pick. Um, my number two is the uh Giants Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and LA Dodgers. Again, rivalry goes all the way back to when they were in New York. Love it, great, old school. Uh, unfortunately, you've seen some really shitty stuff happen on both sides. Um, it's a dangerous rivalry, apparently. Um, but anyway, it's still just a fun one to watch. It's a it's and it's great. And the teams, when you go again, my kind of criteria, when you go to that team, you don't like them. I I would even say I'll put Giants, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees kind of in the same, just tied for number two.
SPEAKER_02The problem is with those two, you can't. I mean, it's dangerous to even to wear a jersey of the other team going to one of their one of their games.
SPEAKER_01It's you're always again, every fan base has them. So it's the same Yankees, Red Sox. I'm kind of just putting those two a tie for a second. It's those are just brutal, brutal rivalries. And it's not just the fans, it's the teams. They don't like each other when they're on those teams. They just they they embrace it wholeheartedly. So, yeah, that's my number two. Uh, Steve, let's go, buddy. Let's go.
SPEAKER_02Would be Boston and the Yankees. Okay, just from those okay, World Series events that they had.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I get it. Good one. It's a great rivalry. Um, and it has been recently, so maybe not as bad recently, but it's it's always great. It doesn't matter how good or how bad the teams are, it's truly elevated when they are great. So great number one. The stuff, what do you got, buddy?
SPEAKER_03My number one, it's a more personal pick, something you don't really truly understand the rivalry of unless you live there. Okay, so but mine traces all the way back to 1896. Wow. Yeah, I'm talking about University of Utah versus Brigham Young University.
SPEAKER_01Okay, outside the box, Brandon. Again, he's done this to us before with uh remember the bad news Bears pick from the 1976 baseball. So another good one outside the box, Brandon. Good job. I love it. Yeah, it's a great, great college football rivalry. College football just they just have been going on for so long, and it's just embraced by everybody. And you'll see that with my number one. Um, Nick, what is yours? Number one.
SPEAKER_00Gonna go right back in the box, right back in the box. Um, from the stuffs out of the box thinking, uh, I could have gone with ASU U of A. I could have gone with Iowa, Iowa State, but I went with Bears Packers. We got it, get out of here. We got an 11 game. Uh, we're down to the Packers by 11 games. We're gonna get two more games, maybe three back this year. Let's go. Shut up.
SPEAKER_01You have to have a quarterback. Anyway, uh, my number one's gonna be Auburn, Alabama. Oh, yeah, there you go. It's it's I don't know why that wasn't on my list. There, you know what? There is just too much that has happened. I've seen I I've seen videos of two women. One was a doctor, one was a lawyer. Literally, this guy's dragging her out, and her fucking feet are kicking this lady, and the other lady's throwing stuff at her. These are two distinguished individuals trying to kill each other over Alabama and Auburn at the game. Oh I like it doesn't it it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_02I would hope alcohol is involved in that. Oh, I guarantee.
SPEAKER_01But it's like the one you had the story with the guy who killed the tree on Auburn's campus. It's like the stuff that these fans go to to the lengths is insane. I just I don't know that there's and again, Ohio State, Michigan was also on my list, but extend and you see a lot of these college rivalries. I could have gone with a lot of others, you know. I threw the Giants, Red Sox, and or Giants, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees in my list, but it's just like, guys, some of these college football rivalries and basketball, it just it goes back like Brandon again. Brandon was a college football number one because these rivalries go back over a hundred years now, 130, 140 years. And it's like the players that come into these schools may have nothing to do with the area, didn't grow up there or anything, and it's like they immediately are like, Yeah, F that guy.
SPEAKER_03It's just part becomes part of the culture there.
SPEAKER_01It and that's what it is. And you know, they're all great schools, and it's just a lot of fun. So when it comes to overall sports rivalries, I think it's just yeah, it's these, these are just holy cow, crazy. So, anyway, so that is our top five greatest sports rivalries of all time. Please let us know in the comments what yours is. Um, thank you again for joining us. Uh, another great episode. We will have a lot more to cover next week. Um, Steve, final thoughts.
SPEAKER_02Final thoughts. Uh, yeah, we'll definitely be covering the bracket next week. It'll be almost to the sweet 16 by then. So um looking forward to that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Great, great, great, great stuff coming up. The stuff. What kind of stuff you got for us, buddy? Final thoughts.
SPEAKER_03Just looking forward to the game later this week, and also the game tomorrow. Uh Vegas is playing Buffalo, so that should be an interesting one.
SPEAKER_01That that'll be a great hockey game. Yeah. Nick, final thoughts, buddy. What do you got?
SPEAKER_00Uh, I got a random fact. And yeah. The most penalty minutes. I'll take a guess. Most penalty minutes in an NHL game.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Guess. Guess how many minutes? I'd say 330. The it's 419. It happened in 04, 2004. And what did they say? They said where'd it go? Oh, like 406 of the penalty minutes happened in the third period. It was 04? Yeah, the uh Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So that game, I nope, I know exactly. Yeah, it I it was in Ottawa, correct? Uh it doesn't say. Okay, I'm almost positive it was in Ottawa. Um, so I remember that. That was the end of the game.
SPEAKER_00It was that the benches were empty, like not because they were on the ice, you can't do that, but um yeah, 409 minutes in the third period, numerous fights requiring 90 minutes for officials to sort out penalties. Yeah. That must have been a long game to watch.
SPEAKER_01Um, hang on one second, because I'm pretty sure this was also the Philadelphia Flyers brawl. Yeah, it was in Ottawa. I remember this game.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait. We were talking about the Red Wings game, so it made me look it up.
SPEAKER_01Yep, yeah, yeah. I yeah, I remember the some of those games. Like again, you also I brought up the Penguins and Flyers. That was a playoff game. Like, that whole series was insane, and that game, the final score, I believe, was 10 to 8. Who are we playing? Yeah, goalies playing Swissy cheese. Anyway, so that's it for us, guys. Full strength podcast, 10th episode ever made, has gone down in the books. Double digits, double digits doing this voice, but I love it so much. Anyway, uh, thanks again for joining us.
