Hello everybody and welcome to Full Strength Podcast. Another week, another big week in sports in the Stanley Cup playoffs. We had an NFL draft. A lot of teams, winners and losers from the draft. We're gonna get into it. But first, intros. Steve Wood, my man. How was your week, buddy?
SPEAKER_04Busy, as usual. It was good though. A lot going on. Football, hockey. Nice shirt. I know, right? Carolina sweeping the senators. Can't go on with that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a real live Kaniac is with us here tonight, folks.
SPEAKER_04Looking forward to the next series.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you guys are already done. That's gotta feel good.
SPEAKER_04They needed the break. That was a rough uh last couple games there, or last game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, auto was tough, man. Good team, great team. We'll get all into it here in a bit. Uh, Nick, Nick Brown, how's it going, man? Dude, looks good, man.
SPEAKER_03Uh thank you, thank you. Um, this is in honor of one of the Bears picks at our new starting center. Anyway, um, just been watching a ton of hockey, and I cannot get over how much fun overtime hockey is in the playoffs. Talk about like high pressure situations. Uh, love it. Uh moved into a movement there's got to be crazy too. So I wish that I had a team that was closer, but it is what it is. Um, but things have been great, man. Ready to go. Happy week 16, everybody. That's three months of podcasting.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Yep, and uh Joe Montana. Uh Brandon, the stuff, trainer.
SPEAKER_00Hey, buddy, how's how was your week? Week's been good. Can't wait to get away from those kids.
SPEAKER_02That's right, your teacher's teacher. He is molding young minds. Well, teenager minds, but still. But one thing is they get the spectacle of having a teacher with a record-breaking size head. I mean, that has just got to be uh just what an what an honor for those children.
SPEAKER_00We'll show them what they can hopefully achieve someday.
SPEAKER_02That's right. Folks, we do want to have a measuring circumference contest between Nick Brown, who wears a size eight fitted hat, and Brandon the Stuff Trainer. I believe Brandon the Stuff Trainer's head is bigger, but but we have to leave it to the tape. Eventually, we're gonna make this happen.
SPEAKER_03But anyway, she has the crown. Yeah, I absolutely do. I'll buy a new size eight fitted hat and I'll put wear it, and then I will send it to the stuff, and he can wear it in the next podcast episode after me, and we'll see how it works.
SPEAKER_02It's not a bad idea to make this something like this happen. So it's you know, it's um about I don't know, 60 pounds ago, Steve used to get called uh goose because they thought he had a long neck. It was like Merton Hanks because we grew up with the water.
SPEAKER_04That was only you.
SPEAKER_02No, no, I'm not the even I'm not even the one that was. That was only you. No, no, no, no, no. You're you know it no, if we can get people from that era, that it dude, it was the kid down the street from you. Oh, Mike. That's Mike's the one that started it. That's right. He started it, he was like, Goose, and so it started where I would take pictures. Well, this is oh man, I'm gonna age myself. This was before cell phones, but when I've got cell phones, I would take pictures or video of geese, and I'd be like, Stay, you did my cousin your family. Yeah, Karen. Yeah, but yeah, a lot of fun, anyway. Right on, guys. Great weeks, great weeks. Uh, me, I'm just working. Um, but I did get to catch some hockey, some playoff hockey, absolutely beautiful. Um, some games, just incredible games in hockey. So, but we'll get into that. But to start it off, um, Nick, you had some stuff. Let's hear it, buddy.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_03Uh, while getting ready for the podcast, I found some odds and ends that uh I just thought would be worth saying once and then be like, ha, and then moving on. Um function. So we have to start to start, we're gonna go with. Did you guys hear that Arnold Schwarzenegger's son won gold at a major event? I didn't. We now have a second generation legacy athlete uh in bodybuilding with uh with Arnold's son. I was gonna ask if it was bodybuilding.
SPEAKER_02I know he lifts, but is it in bot okay? That's yeah, bodybuilding.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah, Arnold Schwarzenegger's son won gold at a major bodybuilding event, uh, reviving the legacy athlete narrative.
SPEAKER_02That's kind of I mean, yeah, either way, that's cool. That's neat.
SPEAKER_03Just something to say. Um, and then the other thing I was gonna say that just popped off this week was Kenya's Sebastian Saway, I'm probably saying that wrong, broke the two-hour marathon barrier in London. He ran a marathon in under two hours. That's incredible. I mean, like that's I don't know if I could I drive a car.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you could definitely in under two hours. What how long is a full marathon?
SPEAKER_0326 miles. 26 even or 20 something like that. 26.2, I believe. I think you're right. Yeah, but yeah, so now the new debate is is hit were his shoes, um, are his shoes legal enough to be considered legal? Or they blah blah blah blah blah. But anyway, this man ran a marathon in like um, it was an hour 59 minutes and some change.
SPEAKER_02Good grief, man. That's just incredible.
SPEAKER_03So just off to those guys, that's just cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know those runners, man. It they just they really are their endurance and not just you know, people think it's just breathing. Your muscle endurance has to be truly elite to run that distance like that non-stop because that's what it is. You're booking it, man.
SPEAKER_03Oh, dude. Well, when I worked EMS, I used to work the PF Chang's uh like you see these guys that are just it looks like they're sprinting, and then they get to the end, and as soon as they stop, all their muscles just go noops, and then that's when EMT's paramedics would carry them.
SPEAKER_02Right. I remember working a uh the Las Vegas marathon. This was back like EMT basic um in Las Vegas, and it was uh you know, huge events and you know stuff, and it was uh, yeah, we were the I was in the ambulance that was at the back, the very back of the marathon. It's just what an event they are, and they really are incredible. It's like you have the famous ones like the Boston Marathon, uh New York City Marathon. All these are are very, very big events, man. Um, I've been in New York City when the marathon's going on working, and it's just holy smokes. It just takes over the whole city, yeah. So, anyway, that's still I that's incredible, man. Absolutely unbelievable. So plot to him, man. Way to go. Truly amazing.
SPEAKER_04That's crazy. That's he means he was averaging just under five minutes a mile. Five minutes a mile. Wow, I for 26 miles.
SPEAKER_02For 200 for 26 miles, it's non-stop. Man, wow, truly, truly incredible. What an athletic accomplishment. I mean, that's just again, hats off. Like, good for you. And of course, there's his shoes are too light. So, anyway, right on. Um, yeah, so moving on. Um, the MLB, kind of nobody really breaking apart from the pack. First month is in the books for Major League Baseball. Um, I feel like pitchers are finally starting to come into form. Um, seen some great, you know, outings by uh um like Logan Webb and um Paul Skeens is getting out and getting going a little bit better. Um, I something crazy the other night. The Pirates had a combined perfecto into the sixth inning. Yeah, so they had you know you can use an opener now in Major League Baseball. So they started with an opener, he pitched one inning, and then they had another pitcher come in, he pitched two innings, then another guy came in and pitched two innings. Really pretty interesting um situation. So let me bring it up here. I apologize. It was on Monday. So, and here's what's crazy about this game is that the Pirates had this perfecto going, right? And they end up losing the game. I'm like, oh like what a kick in the nuts, you know what I mean? So um let's see here, second, third, fourth, so fifth, so through six innings, perfect game, and then so they lose the perfect game um on a single with two outs in the seventh. Again, I'm talking about a perfect game, no walks as well, no base runners, right? Perfect game through six and two thirds inning and three pitch, four pitchers. So um it was broke up by a base hit by Alec Burleson. Uh Isaac Matson came in, relieved Evan Sisk. Um, they took it into the eighth inning. Okay, so they again just one hit to this point, and then in the ninth, the whole thing fell apart for Pittsburgh. So, and then it it was uh with one out, um, had a solo home run, made it 2-2, then uh next batter. So back to back um dingers, and then a walk, and then a base hit, and then a walk, and then a double the left. And it's just I mean, when I say it unraveled, guys, it unraveled. So um, absolutely incredible. Just a perfect game through six and two-thirds. I you know what I mean? Like you're looking at kind of a weird history here, but it's it would still be a perfect game, even if it's a combination of however many pitchers. So it just but to unravel like that in the ninth, it's just like, oh my god, the fans, I feel bad for them. So, but anyway, pretty crazy. So, uh, Steve, what do you got? Anything for baseball this week?
SPEAKER_04Uh, just I've watched a few games here and there.
SPEAKER_02Uh, it's um have you had a hot dog while watching those games?
SPEAKER_04No, I haven't had a hot dog in a long time, actually. I'll have one on the fourth, probably, but that's about it. On the fourth of July? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Congratulations, you're American. Um, okay. Oh my gosh. I can't even handle it. I don't even think we should allow you to talk about baseball until you go to a game and we have reasonable evidence that you have ate a hot dog.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I need a picture with you holding that day's paper. All right, well, I plan on going to a Durham game here within the next three weeks.
SPEAKER_02Remember, we want a picture of it in your mouth.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Trinity, if you can hear us.
SPEAKER_04I don't think it'll go that far, but it's kind of disturbing that you want a picture of a hot dog in my mouth. Okay, here we go. Nick.
SPEAKER_02Move around. How are you feeling? Um, baseball, Nick. Jesus.
SPEAKER_03Well, I just want to give a little shout out to the Cubbies. Uh, Cubbies had a nice 10-game win streak, uh, including a four-game sweep of the Phillies, which was the first time uh it's been a four-game sweep of the Phillies since '73. Yep. Which drew booze from the Philly fans in Philly.
SPEAKER_02Well, no surprise. I mean, if we want to get into it, also, I was gonna get to this after Brandon, but I think it's a good time to touch on it. Uh, Phillies, they fired their manager. I mean, it's like worst start in how many years? Um I and it's not the only team. Red Sox didn't just fire their manager, Alex Corona, they fired everybody. So it's kind of been a crazy week as far as that goes, but it's you know, but yeah. I I believe it was that sweep too, Brandon, that actually got him fired. I mean, it was just like enough is enough. So shout out to the cubbies, you got a manager fired. Brandon, what do you got, buddy? I know it looks like you're wanting to chime in.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I got your favorite subject ready. So, in a recent game between Cleveland and Tampa Bay, home run hit into a stance, and your favorite thing happened. Uh guy up in there stole the ball from a little girl. Oh god. What oh my god, man, boy, did he look happy to steal that.
SPEAKER_02Really? Like, what is wrong with these people, man?
SPEAKER_00Wait, wait, it gets better.
SPEAKER_02Oh, go ahead. Sorry.
SPEAKER_00After that happens, you know, the the camera caught it. And then apparently, when it went back to the game, her little brother, she was probably like between eight and ten.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Her little brother, probably just a little year or two younger, went over to the guy and asked him for the ball. And he refused to get still give it over. Wow.
SPEAKER_02Did anything else happen there? Or was that it?
SPEAKER_00So then um uh someone from the Tampa Bay uh journalism box that was on the crew, that he went down and gave balls to both the boy and the girl.
SPEAKER_02Hold on though, okay. That's and that's great.
SPEAKER_00I and then and then finish it off. Since that was broadcast live on TV, cut the whole thing, the guy was instantly getting shamed. Okay, instantly on social media, and apparently he eventually gave the ball to her because of that, and then instantly deleted all the social media.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what an absolute clown. This guy has to realize he's a moron and some of one of the a group of like lowlifes. So uh oh my god, like honestly, and hey, let's give props, like big kudos to the brother. Hey, man. Good job, dude. Younger brother round of applause to the brother, man, for having the the sack to go over to this scumbag and try to get the ball back. Like, what is wrong with these people? Honestly, like fans, this is why I get fired up on fan behavior. This is despicable. Like, you're a lowlife for doing something like this, man. Come on. Holy smokes, Steve. Reaction, buddy.
SPEAKER_04To the kids? I mean, that's just they should have taken the ball away from them. Somebody should have came and took the ball away from them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like Brandon's saying, the I how fast was the social media response for crying out loud? Like, that's crazy. That he was still at the game and tried to give her the ball back. Someone probably knows where he works, where he lives. Like, oh my god, like insane. Nick, what do you what would you do?
SPEAKER_03I've done it. Um, I was with a group of like well, I was probably 25, so drinking was involved. Yes, we were at a brew, we were at a brewer's game sitting in the bleachers, having a blast. I was shirtless with like five, six other dudes. We had things painted on our chest, letters painted on our chest, having a blast, right? You're that guy. We we were we were surrounded by all like-minded adults, all drinking, having a blast. Yep, bunch of high fives.
SPEAKER_02Great place to see a ball game, by the way. That fan base is some of the best baseball tailgates are in Milwaukee. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Didn't get to tailgate, but yes. Um, but there was one small child in a 10 to 15 foot area of this huge group of guys that were just high-fiving and just drinking.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_03And we caught the group of adults, not me, but we caught a home run ball. And what did we do? We celebrated, took our pictures, and gave the ball to the kid. Simple. Um, done. Because that's what you do. That's what you do. That's what you do. You either give the ball to the kid or you throw the ball back on the field because it's gross. That's what you do.
SPEAKER_02That's not to do as an adult. Male, female I'm sorry, but dude, yeah, that is the proper response. You don't keep I've seen, oh my god, the lady, the lunatic Red Sox fan from another Red Sox fan at a Marlin game was so beyond despicable and disgusting. I I was floored. And second, that dad, no, nah, man. Uh-uh. I would have sat there and looked at her and been like, go back to your seat before my wife handles you. Okay? And I'm gonna let her. I'm gonna I'm gonna let her. No, but honestly, like it's we see it more and more, and you know, again, we've I've I know I one of my things that I really can't stand is one, police your own. Who let this guy get away with this that he was at the game with, first of all? Like, not okay, but anyway, yeah, I it's um so quick story. This has to do with hockey. So I was uh again, my son, we were in a he was uh we were in Detroit for one of his hockey tournaments, and the sharks happen to be playing the Red Wings, which was just worked out great. So, of course, we have tickets, we go to warm-ups. My son loves to go to warm-ups. Um, he's got his Celebrini jersey on, like he's rocking and rolling, and we're down by the glass, and he's in front of me, and I catch, you know, make eye contact with uh Celebrini, and I'm like, he kind of like gives me uh like the puck's coming over, and I was like, Yep, I got it. I know I know the drill. And so he starts flipping me a puck. I catch one, first little five or six-year-old kid loses his mind, he's so happy. Uh flips another one up over four times. Great job. Celebrini and Smith and those young guys, they get it, man, with the kids, they get it with the kids, and so it's that simple. The puck comes over, you give it to the kids. The puck comes over, you give it to the kids. Bald, I don't care what it is, you give it to the kids. It's a big deal. So it's like, and by the way, I ended up getting five pucks from Mac, and I I gave them all to my the kids around us, and my son didn't get a puck initially. I swear to god, and I'm just like looking as they're skating off the ice, and I'm like, oh no. Oh, he's right, I've given all these kids a puck from Macklin Cellebrini except for my son. I'm like, it's like you're worse. Like, what did I do? What just happened? Oh my god. So I ended up getting him a warm-up puck via other ways, but it was it was not from Macklin Celebrini. So I was in the hot seat there for a minute, but anyway, anyway, that's great story, Brandon. Thanks for bringing that up. Um, I let us know in the comments, by the way. Um, if you're watching this video, please, what is your thoughts on this? Because again, it's like, let's God, do the right thing, people. What is wrong with you? It's not that hard, man.
SPEAKER_03Like the whole point of this is it's the whole point of this is to make everyone have a good time. Yeah, you ruined everyone's good time when you're a dickhead.
SPEAKER_02It's just and several, you know what I mean? Like, there's fan behavior is always just such a a thing, and it's like, you know, people like buy a ticket, they think they have the it gives them a right to just be a complete jerk hole.
SPEAKER_00So if you're an adult, you got adult money, just go this way.
SPEAKER_02If it's that important to you, go spend 40 bucks and buy a ball. Yeah, but then people will be like, oh, they charge 40 dollars for a ball. That's so despicable. It's like, no, don't buy it, you're despicable. Yeah. Free market. Anyway, so with that said, um Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hosted the yearly tradition of the National Football League's draft. Um pretty cool event. I was talking to uh a buddy of mine, Peyton, who uh went to the draft. He went to rounds one through three.
SPEAKER_01Love your dad.
SPEAKER_02Um, he did say he goes, he's like, I'll tell you what, man, he's like, I'm glad I did it, but it's like something I would never do again. It's like one of those events that you go, you experience it, you're like, cool, I've done it, I've been there, I'm done.
SPEAKER_05Check it off, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Peyton's only like 23, I think. So he just it again, it was one of those things. But he said, You spend a lot of time doing this. Wait, waiting for waiting for looking at the clock, waiting for the clock to you know, tick down. And so it's yeah, it's I I get it. Uh you know, you go to those types of events, you're like, okay, that was fun, that's it. You know what I mean? So, but uh big uh winners and losers from the draft, Steve. Who's your winner and who's your loser? What do you like? What do you not like?
SPEAKER_04I didn't like the Cardinal pick for the first round. Which one? They were all bad. No, they weren't all bad, but the first round one definitely was. I don't think they needed to take a running back that early. Uh they could have waited till a later round to pick something up like.
SPEAKER_02What were you thinking they needed the most? Like what were you hoping? Edge. So you want D-line. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, something on the D-line or even a cornerback or a safety or something like that. Maybe that would have been too early for those, but something on the edge, sometimes on the defensive line. Um, because I mean they really suck at that right now. I mean, they suck at everything really.
SPEAKER_02But well, and that's the thing, man. You're you're literally rebuilding and you're trying, and it's like they are it's uh seems like they should have had some kind of traction by now with the amount of high picks they've had, but sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_04Um, no, I mean it's I just it wasn't a good pick. I think again, I just think it was too early for that. Um, a good one, I don't know. I mean, the everybody knew Fernando Mendoza was gonna get taken number one.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I feel like that was that was a given. Um, I'm gonna tell you what. I love what the Rams, I I love the Ty Simpson pick for the Rams. Them trading up for it. I listen, that kid shows promise, you know what I mean? And it's you know, in the in at the combine, he looked really good, and I get it. You know, it's combine. We don't you don't know. These guys really don't know. But it it's Ty, it's like uh everybody forgets Josh Allen was wasn't great when he first came to the NFL. He had a lot of control problems, so on and so forth, but he had the work ethic. So it's like you stick a guy like that behind a legend, a first ballot hall of famer in Matt Stafford for for a year or two, and it's like, what are you what are you gonna have at the end of the line? You know what I mean? So I like that pick a lot. Um, I feel like the Giants, I like what the Giants did. I think they did a good job with all the picks they had. Um, yeah, anyway, I it just again, we could we'll talk about this some more, but but I get what you're saying, though. I I the Cardinals, the Cardinals have been frustrating. I and it's a lot of their picks have been frustrating. I get that.
SPEAKER_04They haven't had even for the last couple decades.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's yeah, man.
SPEAKER_04Or you know what, for our our end day with our top five, I mean, I have several from just the Cardinals on my list. I yeah, I I get it. I know. You've always when I was going through that, I noticed it was three teams that have problems. I I'll talk about that later, but I found three teams that have big problems with picking drafts.
SPEAKER_02You you were right. I thought Kyler Murray was honestly gonna do more, and I I feel like injuries hampered that, but you know, I'll admit when I'm wrong. I I not brutally wrong on Kyler Murray, but you know, it was just yeah, you were you were more right in that situation. But um, Nick, you what do you think, bud?
SPEAKER_03Uh I like the Bears picks. They had their first two picks, we got a safety, uh Dylan uh with the number 25 pick, and then we got the center from Iowa, who's gonna start game one, like he's just a beast. So it more protection uh on the offensive line for they definitely be good. Give it give him you know more time because he got more time last year and he produced. So I'm happy with the center, and then the safety because our we were way lower.
SPEAKER_02He produced or the receiver top top five catches almost every single time.
SPEAKER_03Um, anyway, yeah, the team produced, but yes.
SPEAKER_02Um, but I was did they draft an accuracy coach for Williams? So nothing's gonna change. Copy that. Go ahead. We'll see.
SPEAKER_03Um, but I was gonna ask Steve why he likes Carson Beck as the Cardinals, what, round three quarterback pick? He's not a bad pick.
SPEAKER_04I mean, they didn't have I thought they were gonna take, I mean, if they had time and and LA didn't move up, they probably would have taken Sipson.
SPEAKER_02You think they you think so?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, they definitely would have. If he would have been then their second round pick, they would have taken him.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04Um but Beck's not bad. I mean, he's not great, but overall, as a quarterback, I mean, he's got the size, he's got the height. Um, I'm not gonna say he's gonna be good because I have no idea, but he's not a bad pick for that they took him.
SPEAKER_03I heard a lot of talk about his arm strength being 10-15 yards, and that he's got UCL concerns, uh which make him risky. I didn't hear anything about the UCL.
SPEAKER_02What's the UCL concerns? I missed that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I didn't hear anything about that either. No, no, no, yeah. Uh you're gonna keep talking because I'd have to rego or refind it. But no, no, no, you're fine.
SPEAKER_02I I Carson Beck again is a third or fourth round drafted quarterback, and we don't know. I I'm listening I I hate the argument about oh, he's got a big arm or he doesn't have a big arm. It's like, shut up, stop with this again. It's like you're just regurgitating talking points that people say to fill time. I swear to God. It's like people are like every quarter, he doesn't have a big enough arm, every quarterback in the NFL can throw 60 to 70 yards. Okay, that's that's that's good. So I I I don't know. I think if if a quarterback's willing to work hard enough and if he's got the the skills, uh yeah, we don't know.
SPEAKER_04He's probably not gonna start this year. I mean, unless somebody gets hurt, but right, that's what I mean. So I mean he's got a year at least before I think they're gonna throw him into the deep end.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02The deep end. If they draft a line and you give any quarterback enough time, a lot of them at this level will produce something for you. You know what I mean? It's like we just you know, you never know what it's gonna be. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_04And so I believe a lot of quarterbacks' careers were ended early because they started on a team that did not have a good offensive line to protect them.
SPEAKER_02Or just yeah.
SPEAKER_04And their confidence was just shot after that.
SPEAKER_02Sure. And that's absolutely can be the the case. Um like Geno Smith. I I can't believe he's going back to the Jets still, but um Geno Smith and um Sam. Just just what what is he done?
SPEAKER_03Sam Darnold's a good example, yeah. Justin Fields, I just I mean that he had no protection and he had a horrible year. Oh, I gotcha. Okay. He didn't have a fair shake, I don't think, at all.
SPEAKER_02Well, okay. I I'm not like listen, you're on the practice field, you're just people know what you're gonna be, and they watch, and you know, people say in the media it's like, oh, he's not getting a fair shake, and it's like, no, no, they're they're looking at him every day in practice, etc. And it's like he's in situations where he can make plays, he does or he doesn't. I just I don't know. I'm not a fan of that argument, I guess. That's all. But I get what you're saying, Nick. Brandon, what do you got, buddy?
SPEAKER_00Well, I got I think I'm gonna get in a little trouble here with what I got.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, finally admit something. I think drafts, but in particular the NFL draft are the most overhyped, overproduced, ridiculous events in all of sports. It is just a giant hiring event, as far as I'm concerned. I do not get why people come from there. I do not get why people come from out of state to watch a clock run down from seven to zero multiple times for teams they do not care about. I made it really entertaining.
SPEAKER_04I don't get it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's listen, Brendan. I'm not gonna you're not wrong, though. Somebody asked me to go, honestly. I had uh the option opportunity to go, and I was like, no, I'm not I'm not doing that. Um I I get it, I really do.
SPEAKER_00Like, maybe if you live there, but like to travel, I don't get I don't get it.
SPEAKER_02I yeah, and people travel all over. Yeah, it here's the thing with it, like my buddy Peyton said, he was like, Yeah, it's a whole lot of standing around waiting for a clock to run down. It's like, and I'm sure there's vendors and the NFL experience shows up and all this other stuff, but I I don't see it as an event that I would be like, yeah, man, let's go to the draft.
SPEAKER_00Like I'm sure there's experience stuff around because they want to give you something to do because there's nothing.
SPEAKER_02Right. I I'm I'm with you. I think it's like we'll put we'll we'll we'll we'll we'll clip this onto uh TikTok or and YouTube and see what people have to say in the comments because it's like I I get it. It's I said job fair. Um the combine is like the job fair, right? And then what Brandon said, it's just a mass hiring uh event. That's funny.
SPEAKER_00And really, you don't know how these guys are gonna perform, you know, a bunch of them will just sit on the bench for the first two years. Bunch of them, you'll never hear their name called again on TV.
SPEAKER_02So if here's the thing really, if you're drafted fifth, sixth, or seventh round, uh your chances, I think, it's of getting onto a roster for more than even three years is very, very minimal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, guys like that are just as successful, right?
SPEAKER_02And like, listen, think about this. You make it onto a practice squad, dude. You're making like close to, I believe it's 212,000 a year. Yeah. All right, bad money. That's not bad. You've got all the medical and and you still have a shot at getting called up. It happens all the time. Look at the 49ers last year. By the divisional round, they had like seven players from practice squads on their defense. And so I let's see, right now, uh practice squad players in the NFL. I'm pretty sure it's I'm pretty sure it's I think it's 212,000. And then oh wait, hang on. No, it's no, it's yeah, $234,000 per season.
SPEAKER_03Jesus.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So uh minimum of $17,500 to $25,000 per week. Um, this structure allows young players to earn roughly $234,000 to $396,000 annually with pay rates increasing annually through 2030. So um rookies or second-year players are getting $13k a week, veteran players again, $17,500 to $25,000. Um Veterans make $315,000 to $450,000 a year to be on the practice squad. Um, there's I think it's Josh Gibson who made a career out of it, or Joshua Johnson. So I like listen, yeah, tell me that's not a bad job, you know.
SPEAKER_04But some doctors don't even make that much.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And they have to go to yeast school for 12 years.
SPEAKER_02Forever, yeah. I know. So but uh anyway. Um I like again, I thought uh the 49ers were interesting again, too. They what did they do? Um, so they traded to 30 from 27th to 30th, and then they flipped that into two second-round picks. Then they traded out of the first round completely to the second round. I don't know. I thought they did all right. They they always find value in places, and these guys turn out to be, you know, some of them turn out to be great. So I like what they did. Um, the Browns had a ton of picks. I think what they did was a great, great first step in this rebuild. Next year, they'll you know, potentially be in position for their franchise quarterback, and I it like they're just building these blocks.
SPEAKER_04So I think the Browns they don't have a good track record though with quarterbacks.
SPEAKER_02No, they don't. It's like, listen, I know they don't, but I feel like for Clevelanders, it's coming to an end. They're going to get out of this and get back. They had it with Baker, man. They really did. They went 13-4. They were a bad call away from beating KC the one year. The next year comes back, it absolutely was gutting out just a brutal shoulder injury. And those fans boot him out of there. And I was pretty their fan base kind of disgusts me sometimes, but it's you know, NFL. Every fan base has them. It's ridiculous. But anyway, I I like what they did. They they drafted some offensive linemen receivers. I I I really like the draft they had, and then again, you know, with what they have at quarterback right now, though. I mean, I think you know, two to four wins is their ceiling, but um again, it's it's a good start. Nick, you like what the Bears did? I mean, it's yeah, I think uh I love the Giants. I love the Giants draft. I think that the Giants did um I'm trying to think of names right now, and I'm I'm drawing a blank. Um Brandon, any any other picks you particularly liked or didn't like? Who do you think was a winner and who do you think was a loser?
SPEAKER_00Gosh. Like I said, you know, Oakland got their picks that they needed.
SPEAKER_02Oakland?
SPEAKER_00Sorry, I still think of Raiders. That's Oakland because it's California's name. Las Vegas Raiders got their picks that they needed, and then also I think uh the Cleveland Browns, I think, got some good picks in there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Like I I the Giants, they picked um the linebacker Arville Reese, obviously from Ohio State, an absolute monster. Um, the one that I like that I couldn't think of his name was Francis. I still can't say the name. Uh the offensive tackle from Miami. I that's big. I think they've we don't know what they have yet at quarterback, um although I like what he did. And then but again, it's we won't know for a little while on him. Well, I mean, we do, but we don't. You know what I mean? But I like getting more protection. They got Colton Hood uh at at 37. Uh, great cornerback out of Tennessee. Really kind of can't I think he could be a shutdown corner, but you know, again, it's you see it, you see it. And then they got some later picks. I think Kansas City did well. Oh, you know what?
SPEAKER_03They did really well for you know they boosted their defense.
SPEAKER_02For really, sorry I did not bring that up. Um, that's what I that's why we have four of us, right? Um, yeah, Kansas City did a great job, and it's funny, they you know, the Niners did this in the 90s, where they kind of had a bad year and then they were able to rebound with a great draft. Some good teams do this, and Kansas City's you know, window isn't closed. Kansas City still has a great quarter, uh Hall of Fame quarterback. Um, you know, tight end, I think Travis Kelsey's kind of shown his age, he's getting towards the end of his career, but they you know, they're great, they find value. Andy Reid is a brilliant play caller, so it's like you have a draft like this, and it's it's like, okay, you know, let's kind of just it's it's like a re tool.
SPEAKER_03Because Mahomes just we still don't even know when Mahomes is coming back. Like he says we won, and originally it was postseason.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's no way. Players always say that Aaron Rodgers thought he was coming back that season from a torn Achilles. It's like, no, you're not.
SPEAKER_04Maybe five years ago, he could kind of push closer to the beginning of the season. Not now though.
SPEAKER_02I I know, Steve, but I there's dude. There's no way.
SPEAKER_03I I he's not a young buck anymore. He'd be putting his entire rest of his season or rest of his career at risk for a reinjury coming back that early, right?
SPEAKER_02Exactly. And that's what I'm saying. I yeah, I just don't like it. So they got um Mansor Delaney from uh cornerback from LSU. That was the name. I'm trying to remember all these names. I just can't do it.
SPEAKER_04That was a really good choice for their first round.
SPEAKER_02They yeah, so they get it via Cleveland from Cleveland. They get then they take 29th from the Rams, Peter Woods, defensive tackle out of Clemson. I they beefed up their their defense. That it's you're taking a good team and just making them better.
SPEAKER_04It's like okay, but and then they took another one in the second round, they took a defensive end.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Yeah. Just some good. Yeah, they didn't go offense until fifth round. So I'm gonna say this, and I like the uh I like the Emmett Johnson pick, the running back out of Nebraska in the fifth round. I think there's value there. And again, the way that they run their offense, I think that you know you can find use for that guy. I think you know, like a third and long come in. So I we'll see. We'll see what happens. We'll see who makes the ends up making the cut. But yeah, their top picks, I thought they did a really good job as well. So just uh again, it it just a fun, a good, a good draft, a lot of big, a lot of moves, a lot of great picks, a lot of great players coming into the league. Congratulations. I hope you guys all stay healthy. I wish everybody the absolute best. Um, and then again, it the top pick. We could talk about Mendoza for a minute. He's gonna he's sitting next to just a great pro, a great, just overall pro in Kirk Cousins. I'm a huge Kirk Cousins fan just by the way the guy carries himself, is a professional, he's put up monster numbers in the past. Um, obviously he's old, but what do you guys think? I mean, Brandon, you're in Vegas. What do you think of the on the whole situation there with Mendoza, Kubiak, everything?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, Mendoza's in the best situation he could be in right now, I think. I totally agree between them coach and everything, right? Yeah, everything. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. Because he is getting up. The worst situation could be that this kid gets thrown in right away.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Not good, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's the only risk.
SPEAKER_02I I agree. Nick, what do you think?
SPEAKER_03I'm excited to see Mendoza. I think we're gonna see him probably too early for what I would consider a smart decision. I do. I think that's it. I think maybe you're just I don't think they're gonna be too excited to see if they can win.
SPEAKER_02I think Kubiak's too smart. They're not worried about winning this year. I I I mean they're gonna try to win games. Nick, they're they're not worried about winning this year. I guarantee it. They're just let's get let's improve. Let's Kubiak's too good of a coach, he's too smart. He's not gonna I I just there's no way.
SPEAKER_03I don't doubt that. I just don't know how much power he has over like the GM and the owner coming and saying, no, we let's put butts in seats. I need W's, put in Mendoza.
SPEAKER_02But that's the thing doesn't need butts in seats. It's Vegas, they're always there.
unknownYou're right.
SPEAKER_03You're the you know what? That's very that's a very true point. We'll we'll see how it pans out. I I would love to see Mendoza sit for the first seven weeks, eight weeks.
SPEAKER_02I I don't think he played, I don't think he takes a snap this season. I don't he'll take a snap.
SPEAKER_04Cousins hasn't, I mean, cousins might not get out for like half the season, but he'll get he'll be out for a game or two here. His track record says he'll be all out at least one or two games this season. Okay, and they'll throw Mendoza in there for those.
SPEAKER_02You're talking about Kirk Cousins and getting hurt, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, it might not be like a major injury, but he'll step out, you know, half a you know, half the game or a whole game, and um because he's got something wrong with him, and then Mendoza will be thrown in.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I like uh they speak again. The Raiders, they took Trey Zun, the third guard out of Texas AM in the third round. I know, and so I I don't I think there's great value in that pick. I'm surprised he lasted that long. But again, you know, everybody's got an opinion, but I was surprised that that was the only offensive lineman that they took. That was it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like I They had a lot of areas they needed to patch up, though.
SPEAKER_02I get it, but it's like and you know what? Maybe they're waiting. I I don't know. Again, we're not obviously in those rooms and in those meetings, so anyway. Um, overall, I I those those are the winners I think from the draft. Um, as far as losers go. I don't know. The Jags. The Jags, right?
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, what goes to say uh Panthers just because their picks were very like boring and questionable. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Nick, what were you gonna say? The Jags, why the Jags, buddy?
SPEAKER_03Uh the Jags did the Jags were a good team last year who made a playoff push. Yep, yeah, and all the weaknesses that all the weaknesses that were shown by their loss in the put their postseason push after having a pretty great season, they fixed none of them.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03I uh we'll we'll see how they pan out this year. Like I just like them. Like they're a fun team to watch. Uh, I like seeing that that beautiful long hair out of that quarterback helmet. I think it's uh more people more quarterbacks should have long, beautiful flowing hair. But I just we'll see what happens, man. Uh it's the draft is like this big, you know, like we said, this big uh what did you call it? The stuff, a big hiring event.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Know if these guys are gonna make it past HR or something. A big hiring fair. Yeah, we're gonna see if they make it past HR or not.
SPEAKER_02Like um also George Pickens got uh franchise tagged today.
SPEAKER_03Kidding. I didn't see that. How does it work?
SPEAKER_0227.5 million guaranteed, yeah. So wow. Um I uh Steve, any losers, buddy?
SPEAKER_04For you I wouldn't say losers, but I don't think I think the Chargers could have did better. Okay with their picks. I mean they got they they found out they've patched up some areas, but some of them Brandon Thompson, like out of Mississippi State. Okay. I I don't they're just kind of lackluster picks for what they needed.
SPEAKER_02There was some that thought that uh like the biggest draft day losers. I was watching some of this, and they said Garrett uh Neusmeyer, the uh the quarterback from LSU, and I'm like, you know, I I don't because he slid to like the seventh round. I'm like, I don't think there's you know, NFL quarterback-wise, I've always it's always been a hobby. I love watching all their tape. Um literally laying in bed at night, and I'm doing like quarterback evals in my own head. I you know who what I I think you know he got drafted, obviously. Uh I was trying to find it. Yeah, he got drafted 249th um overall. Here's my thing on that is that okay, maybe he'll be a practice squad guy. I could see him being a career backup type situation, and you know, I think he's good enough for that, but I also think there's a lot of better options, you know, for backup like Justin Fields and and guys like that. You know what I mean? They're just they're great backups. You can throw him in on like a third down wildcap. You can't do that with Carrot. He's not very, you know, he's not a runner, he's not athletic enough. So I don't know. I just thought I was like, him sliding kind of makes sense. It's you know, he's not, I don't even think with a good work ethic, he's NFL caliber, you know, material. He's a great athlete. You get anybody gets drafted in the NFL is a great athlete. So we're never saying that. He doesn't, you know, fans would say that guy sucks. Yeah, he got drafted in the NFL, Buckaroo. He doesn't suck. Right? So, but anyway, I was thinking the Jacksonville Jaguars and even the Jets. You know, I don't know. So the Jets, I don't think they had a bad draft, not terrible, but I'm just saying in general, I think the Jags had the worst draft. Some thought the Niners had the worst draft, and and I get why a lot of people don't fans are dumb for the most part. They want the free agent, exactly. And it's like, dude, the John Lanchin and Shanahan find value and they're amazing. I mean, uh Brock Purdy, for instance. I mean, for crying out loud.
SPEAKER_04Well, and again, you all these first-round picks. I mean, right, the most the likelihood of only five of them actually doing well in the NFL. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, five about about the most of five of them.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's yeah. Like guys are so overhyped. Again, like Caleb Williams, dude. Yeah. Don't even start. He's terrible. I he's I I'm sorry. He's not a good quarterback. The guy throws the ball 50 yards over guys' heads. It's like, dude, get out of here with this shit. Anyway. Um, yeah, so anyway, that's that's our take. Um, anybody last thoughts on the NFL draft, Steve?
SPEAKER_04No, I mean it was like it was kind of a boring draft, I want to say. It was there wasn't a lot of lot going on, wasn't a lot of okay, wow moments or anything like that. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_03Nick? Same. I'm with Steve. Like, I was hoping for more drama or there was a lot of like teams doing a lot of trades, you know, for trade or for picks and stuff like that. It wasn't like a big bump, and then nothing happened out of it. I'm like, yeah, there wasn't huge curveballs or anything, and definitely no nobody fell off the boat crossing the river. So it's just meh.
SPEAKER_02That would have been great.
SPEAKER_04And the players didn't have a lot of hype. I mean, that there wasn't a there wasn't this big, you know, showing of all these different players, right? One or two players that were like everybody's like, they're gonna go one and two, and yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Brandon just what I said before. If you're thinking of going, save your money and stay home.
SPEAKER_02Brandon, can we pause real quick? I just have to use the rest of your money.
SPEAKER_00Okay. You told him he should have gone before we left.
SPEAKER_03Sound like a dad now. Don't want to stop again. Yeah, uh, in my research, the worst three teams drafted were the cards, the Jags, and the Rams. Really?
SPEAKER_04Because then I was doing I would say definitely the Cards, uh, and then the Browns. And the Rams the worst?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, for the not for the picture of the season, but overall. Oh no, like I got Chiefs, Browns, and like Cowboys as the best three drafted uh teams this year. Oh, this they all got A plus they all got A plus ratings for drafting, and then the cards are drafted. How do they come up with that shit? I think it's absolutely just their emotions. Um, because it completely depends like on who you're listening to, whether it's CBS Sports or ESPN or famous.
SPEAKER_04Because then next year you'll get this, you know. What if you know the we redid the 2006 NFL draft, what the actual ratings would have been by the performances and really interesting to see.
SPEAKER_02Have you guys seen video of the old drafts the way they used to do it? It was like in uh in a conference center in like a Hilton in New York. Yeah, everything was drawn on in chalk on a chalk. It's great. I love watching. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So um sorry, I'm gonna switch uh I'm gonna switch to the Flyers and uh Penguins. What were you watching before? Canadians oh Canadians and uh Lightning. But it's on two different apps, so um, alright, let's let Steve get back and then we'll cruise into our final segment. Oh, what's God damn it? Holy fuck, this is ridiculous, dude. Well, you can't get into HBO or what? Uh no, other things popped up. Okay. Ready for the NHL? Ready. So with that, we'll move right into the NHL. Uh playoffs are in full swing right now. It is cruising. We've got uh a couple of series that are done. The abs in the Carolina Hurricanes have just man, did they steamroll those teams? I here's real quick. I'm just gonna talk about number one. Um, I wanted to say, Anze Copotar, thank you. You are a uh a true legend, you are a great ambassador for the game. Um, that's what I wanted to say about Anze Kopotar. I really thought, guys, the Kings were going to win at least one game in that series. I I just uh was was blown away that they and then you know it was just a blowout at one point, but a couple of the first two games were close, they just didn't get it done, and then I the Ottawa Senators are better than getting swept for nothing. I think that Carolina is just that good right now.
SPEAKER_04A lot of people picked the Senators to actually win that series in five or six.
SPEAKER_02That's that I just was blown away by that, honest, honestly. So, yeah, no way. That it the senators are great defensively, but offensively they're very underwhelming. It just I but I again I agree. I think Carolina is just playing so well. I I've always said you a goalie can carry some of these teams.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and Anderson is on was on fire from games.
SPEAKER_02I Steve, I think he's looking down the barrel of one of the greatest goalie performances in a playoff, potentially. A whole playoff. If he keeps this up, they're unbeatable. They're they're unbeatable, flat out. Some of the saves he made in came for I was just my jaw was on the ground. Like, are you kidding me? Only giving up two per game. I mean, that's just no, he's lower than that. He's zero point, yeah, less than a goal a game. Steve, he's like historically good. He's like Stanley Cup winners. Historically good. I'm telling you, that's it's he's he's legit right now, dude. I mean, in an insane way. So yeah, I I I was blown away. Uh Nick, what do you got, buddy?
SPEAKER_03Uh just talking about those sweeps. Um, yeah, you gotta give it up to what McKinnon and Makar. They had what seven and six points between those four games.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, McKinnon hadn't even scored a goal until game four.
SPEAKER_03Really? So it's but still, like to have to walk out of there with yeah, 13 points in four games.
SPEAKER_02That's they between the two of them. They really haven't got going going yet, and they were that good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I that's they look scary. They look scary and they weren't even good yet.
SPEAKER_02I like I haven't picked uh you know, I haven't picked like Stanley Cup yet. Like what I'm saying right now, I just don't boy, Colorado and Carolina just look like obvious picks. But again, it's one round. They were the top team in both conferences, they beat the bottom seed. Uh, which but my thing is they were both good teams. So anyway, uh Brandon, what do you have go ahead? Sorry.
SPEAKER_03No, you're good. I do have a question though, because me thinking about it, if I was a player, like we have these two teams that had great four great games, and they and they got are automatically pushed into the second round of the of the playoffs. With all these other games going looks like six to seven games to get all these rest of these games uh finalized. Is it having this long of a break between playing when you're hot? Uh it's always first rust.
SPEAKER_02So it's always that question, and it just depends on the team. Right now, for these two teams, I think it's so good. Yeah, I agree. They're skating every day, guys. I mean, you know that even in juniors, you skate every single day, and so it's you know, uh, I just think but I get the the ebb and flow of things, right? And that's what people always talk about is like yeah, you are hot, you want to stay hot, you know, type thing and not cool off, right? And the biggest risk, I think, is two goaltenders. I I think that's the biggest, yeah, right? I because the players, when you're a forward, for instance, you're moving with the same boys, you're just you're just you know sharpening your skills, is all you're doing, or like where guys are gonna be on the ice. That's why you see those crazy no-look passes, and like you know where they're gonna be. You know that if you are looking this way and sling a pass just behind you and kind of just almost like parallel, you know that that guy's gonna be there because you guys have done it a hundred times in practice, but it's like goaltenders, and while yes, they're in net against these guys who are incredible, pressure's different, yeah. Man, it's not the same. I feel like goaltenders are the ones that it can really affect. That's a good point. Yeah, I but yeah, I it's it's always that question, Nick. I you know, so it's it's and it's a good question to ask. Um, I there the other series that are still going right now, I Vegas and Utah. I I don't know who's gonna win that series. Dude, Brandon, what do you think, buddy? Who's winning that series? Honestly.
SPEAKER_00Well, let me talk about a couple things first before I get to that. I don't know if you saw it, but uh game three, we were first one in Utah. The others did a jersey swap if you didn't see it, because Utah used to be Golden Knights territory. So they did a jersey swap where anybody that came down, trade in your golden knights jersey, you get a mammoth jersey.
SPEAKER_03No way, that's what it's smart, actually.
SPEAKER_00They had almost they had almost a thousand people swap jerseys, and those golden knights jerseys are being donated to uh nonprofit organizations here in Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's that's cool, but uh that's soft. I would have handed them out to homeless people, anyway.
SPEAKER_00That's nonprofit organization, but it's better than burning them, I guess.
SPEAKER_02What was the other thing you had?
SPEAKER_00Uh the other thing it was just you know, the just a tremendous job the owners are doing, yeah. They organize that. You see them sitting like in the crowd with the people, they don't sit in the owner's box.
SPEAKER_02No, uh, the islanders owner does that. He walks out in the mezzanine, it's great. Uh, a couple others do it. I've seen it. It that's it's cool. Yeah, I like owners like that. It's always great. You see a bunch of them in hockey that do that, and it's I I always I always love those videos, and they're always so cool. So that's yeah, I'm glad to see another owner's doing that. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_00Uh for this series, man. This series has been insane. Yeah, Utah crowd really turned out, they've been amazing. The games have been crazy. The last game four, that's the most tired I've been from just watching a hockey game. That it was crazy. Yeah, Vegas go up three goals, Utah comes back, scores four goals.
SPEAKER_02The way they got back into it in the second, they had two what 29 seconds apart. Like it was, I was watching, it was like, I was actually watching it in the truck. Don't say anything. As I'm saying this, probably. Um, and I was watching it on my way back from the Penns Flyers game five. And it was like, yeah, you just bang, they score a goal, and then boom, bar down. I was like, holy shit, like, yeah, they're getting it. So it it cra what a crazy ending. They actually took the lead. So Vegas went what three unanswered, then Utah four unanswered, then Vegas tied it and won it in overtime.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, after having didn't each team have a game have a goal uh called back, or was it just the knights that had to score two goals in overtime? Because they called the first goal back for like a kick or something.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Yeah, the first goal got no, it's just the knights because of offsides.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I call it offsides, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I got you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I yeah, this is definitely a seven-game series. Uh I mean, yeah, they can both win on the road, so like there's no home advantage.
SPEAKER_02You're seeing that a lot, too. It's not in in in a lot of series, you're seeing that. So really, it's man, and boy, was Utah. They they were close to going up 3-1 and putting a hold on this series. So yeah, it's it's it's been a good one for sure. Um, what else? We've got the lightning and Canadians, exactly how I thought that series was gonna go. They just hate each other. I mean, it's amazing. The hockey's been fantastic again. Teams are it doesn't matter where they're at, it's whoever has it that night. And it it seems like the being on the road doesn't affect either team as well. So it's like the lightning tied it up at two games apiece. They're playing right now. Montreal, again, they're in Tampa. Montreal's up one-nothing after one.
SPEAKER_00Um, three of the games have gone to overtime.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, three out of four. Yeah, three out of four of their games have gone to overtime.
SPEAKER_03Dude, talk about high pressure situations to put your entire team in.
SPEAKER_02Dear lord. I know playing playing in games like that, like you're locked in. You are just so geared in. The the tension, though, when you're watching it, is insanity. It's like you can just inside of the inside of the arena, it's like you can just feel you can cut the tension with a knife. It's yeah, those games you can hear it on the TV. Every single shot on goal, you hear the entire it's oh every shot on goal, it's like oh yeah, and it's just the insanity in these buildings is just is just great. Um, the other ones, uh the sabres and Bruins. Okay, so real quick, this is a great example of like a goalie can keep you in a series and win games for you. Buffalo is just beating the brakes off of the Bruins in every single way, except they lost by a goal or two goal goal and two goals in in two games. So it's like, I don't I haven't seen Buffalo not dominate an entire period yet in that series. But Jeremy Swayman in their two wins is just putting them on their bat on his back, and so you know, you can hate it if you want, but I mean, geez, and the other day, Buffalo just got six to one. They just beat the brakes off of them in Boston. You could probably hear a pin drop in that arena, and because yeah, they've only won Boston's won two games in Buffalo, so they haven't won yet in their building. Steve, what do you think?
SPEAKER_04Actually, my favorite series going on right now is Dallas. I mean, obviously, this Carolina's already swept, but is Dallas and Minnesota? Really? That is a that's a physical game.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, they that's another one. It's just they're beating each other up. Yeah, they really are. Again, it's it's just two divisional teams. I mean, I get I don't know again, I don't know who's gonna win that series.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02It's like who's gonna, it's nobody's really gotten the upper hand, like it's like, oh, they're gonna, they're gonna eventually take it. I just I think I feel like okay, it's like Dallas is gonna take over the series, and then no, nah. Minnesota's just not going away. And they're a great team. I mean, they've got such good dude watching them move the puck, Matt Boldy, Kuro, Capri Soff, it's like all they're got, they're just all they're good. They both teams have great goaltenders. Um, yeah, that is a good series, Steve. I mean, I think you know, I think I both teams are great. I think unfortunately, whoever wins is gonna lose to the avalanche, but I mean still I'll tell you what, both those teams have the ability to beat the Avs, just whether or not they can. Yeah, that's what it's gonna come down to.
SPEAKER_03So Nick. Yeah, uh, just because I'm I'm more West Coast than all y'all, well, except the stuff, but I've been getting, I haven't watched, I did not watch a single Sabres Bruins game yet. Because they've come on so early. By the way, I'm watching the Oilers, the Ducks, the Mammoth, and Vegas. Uh, I'm getting all the late games that you guys go to bed for are like eight o'clock games for me. So I'm watching it's too early, they're too early. I'm just getting home from work, taking care of my kids, and doing stuff. So I haven't got to watch some super brewings.
SPEAKER_02For us, it's like sometimes those the West Coast games are too late.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, I haven't been able to watch these are those are too early for me. I'm still doing stuff. Um, but I I will like ducks, man. I I'm I'm a huge McDavid fan. I am, I just am. I love the way he plays the game. I love his hustle, his passion, and he deserves he deserves to get there again. And I don't think he's gonna get there this year either, but I'm just rooting for him to get past the ducks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because I was gonna say it that's one series again. That's one team where you're just like, when are they gonna finally come like get it together? They won yesterday, it's 3-2 right now. I I I just don't I don't get they just had an off year, I think, and that's just how you gotta look at it if you're in Edmonton. It's like, yeah, and but here, and here's my thing, I'm saying it like it's over. Listen, it's not over. That team, nobody's I they I think McDavid is dealing with something, number one. I think that's at this point is pretty obvious. Um, that's what I'm hearing. And at the same time, it's like he's still good enough, even if he's hurt. We saw what they did a couple years ago to Florida. Florida had a stranglehold in the Stanley Cup final, boys, and it's like that went to game seven, and Florida barely won that game two to one. So I that series isn't over yet. I'm just gonna say No, not at all. And you know what? It's like Anaheim's great again, they're part of the new up-and-coming teams. Yeah, so it's I get that.
SPEAKER_03No, you're right. But you know what, even hurt or injured or whatever you want to call it. McDavid and uh Dry Sidal had what five points in game five. Exactly. Um, like they're still getting stuff done. Like, yeah, I'm hoping that they can get past the ducks and then uh run into another roadblock second round, but we'll see what happens. It's great hockey. Young hockey, fast hockey, angry hockey. Best kind of hockey.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it's just like that's what's coming. You're seeing it with Montreal. You're seeing it with uh who am I thinking of? Um you're seeing it with the Flyers right now.
SPEAKER_03I'm the Penguin Flyers, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. And okay, so I was at game five. Let me tell you something. It's that building was definitely rocking, not one of the loudest, but it was it was kicking. I think my meter read 115 decibels, which is pretty pretty loud. But Montreal was like 133. Oh my god. Insane, guys. So anyway, um, but that game, it was just great. Those fans we've talked about Pittsburgh fans, they're lunatics. Okay, they really are. Um, I sat next to a couple of just great good dudes, very passionate about hockey. But you know, we talk about bad fan bases and how they get a bad name, and it's like Pittsburgh's on that list, they're high up on that list, right? But it's like I I watch these two young guys like in their late 20s, and they're sitting there one minute, they're saying, F the flyers, like the old marina's going nuts. I've got it on my vlog, I think, that I posted on our YouTube channel. So go like, follow, and share. Um, sorry, little plug. But it was like they do that, and then the next minute they're talking to two flyer fans in front of us, totally respectful, totally nice. They're giving each other little backhanded compliments. It was awesome, and they knew what they were doing. Both parties are laughing, so it's like again, don't judge it when we say it's a bad fan base, it's not every fan, okay? It's just they have more of those types of fans than any other fan base. I want to always make that clear when I'm talking about Pittsburgh fans because I know so many good Pittsburgh fans, pirates, Steelers, and Pence. So it was a great, great atmosphere, and the Flyer fans that were there never felt in danger or anything. So it's like I hope that Pence fans are treated like that in Philly. I know that the chances are very slim to none, but the adult Philly fans, all right? Because Pence fans I've seen treat you guys pretty darn good when you're in their building. So, um, again, with that said, it was great atmosphere, but it's like, dude, the pens are starting to do little things correct. They're getting in shooting lanes, they're getting in passing lanes, just getting sticks on pucks because that's what this young that first line for Philly is insane, dude. They like um uh I hate that I forget names sometimes. Let me find it right now. He's number 74 on Philly, and I'm gonna tell you what this kid gets in close to the boards. His punch outs, his ability to just move in tight spaces is incredible. And Trevor Ziegris is like that. Um, the goal that won that game three to two was insane. Happened right in front of us. We're looking down like this, and it Latang, terrible. I don't even think it could have been a shot on goal, but it goes off the stanchion and just bounces back and does this weird like thing and hits the goalie in the back, and just we're watching the puck cross the goal line, and it was like, wow. And they just shut down these shooting lanes, they did an amazing job. So Pittsburgh's winning these games and coming back into this series by doing all these little things right. So that's that's what I'm gonna say. Is I've still got the Flyers in seven, but and it might it might end right now. There's 124 left in the first Pittsburgh's got 12-11 advantage on shots on goal, but it's zip zip. So I don't know. Anybody, what do you think, Steve?
SPEAKER_04I'm watching the game as well. I I don't Pittsburgh, I think they're gonna win this game. I think they're gonna take it to seven.
SPEAKER_02It's nothing, nothing, and Philly's been really good in the second period, so yeah, we'll but we'll see. We'll we'll definitely see.
SPEAKER_04Well, well, of course, we'll see. But I think they're gonna think the Pittsburgh is gonna take it to seven. I don't I don't I really honestly know who's gonna win that series.
SPEAKER_02Listen, I'm I'm gonna share something real quick. I kind of hope Philly Philly wins this tonight because if they don't, I gotta take two people to make seven.
SPEAKER_04And I you know, I was trying to think of who I want to see the Carolina play.
SPEAKER_03Can we clip this for his wife, please?
SPEAKER_02Um, okay, I was looking for names. Also, I wanted to give a shout out to number 71, uh, Tyson Forrester. Also, absolute just dude is amazing, legit. Elite skater, such an elite skater. You got Porter Matron, who's you know, still a rookie, and it's you know, it's gonna slow down a little bit, playing incredible hockey. Trevor Ziegris, unbelievable, moves the puck with such ease, so quick, so fast, has great vision on the ice. Owen Tippett is who I'm thinking of. This kid, man, hats off, dude. The way he plays in tight to the boards, punching out from side to side and just controlling the puck in tight spaces. If he goes into a corner of this series, he's coming out with the puck. It's it's it's it's been fun to watch. I've watched those guys really close. And Owen Tippett's line, whenever whatever line he's on, it's just his back check, his forecheck, his passing, everything's been uh he's just just an elite mover. So um, anyway, Brandon, anything else on any of these other series? What do you think? What do you think of Pittsburgh and Philly?
SPEAKER_00Well, for Pittsburgh or Philly, I'd say it's a perfect example of youth for its experience. You had Philly come out hot, and now you have Pittsburgh understanding how to make changes. Yeah. Making adjustments, yeah, back in. And as far as Buffalo, they currently have the award for worst goal allowed in the playoffs. When you have a bouncing butt coming from it towards you from the halfway point, you gotta put your whole body in front of that thing to prevent what happened.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. There was one today, wasn't it? Somebody shot it off the glass in the back and it came back, bounced in, hit the goalie in the back, and then rolled in. Yeah, we were just talking about that. It was that was the thing. I think that there was another one that was from half court that was half court, half ice, and uh it was center ice, center ice, half ice, it's all the same thing.
SPEAKER_02Dear hockey community, we apologize for Steve. He's still a little green with the analogy. This is the same guy that doesn't eat hot dogs at baseball games. I just want to bring that up, everybody. Please don't kill us. Yep, we love Steve. We really do.
SPEAKER_04Never gonna live down a hot dog. That's interesting.
SPEAKER_02Never listen, we encourage everybody to be honest and and share here. So thank you, Steve, for sharing that that fact about yourself because it will bring us great joy till the day you die. I it'll carry on after your death. I just want you to know that your legacy will live on as a non-hot dog in baseball games.
SPEAKER_04I can see that now. It's gonna be on my tombstone.
SPEAKER_00Oh man. I'm gonna bring a hot dog to your tombstone. I got a question for the group. Yeah, okay. What do you think's more beneficial to be a team that sweeps like Colorado and then has to wait to for a series like to go like seven games to play again, or to be the team that goes seven games and then you're immediately into your next game?
SPEAKER_02So that goes along with what we were saying earlier. Yeah, it's again. I think it comes down again to the goaltenders. Like we said earlier, I I believe that that's what it is. I believe it it's if it affects anybody, it's going to affect the goaltenders.
SPEAKER_03So I had never actually thought of that. That's a really good point you had brought up earlier, too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you're on a roll, I think it's it's the goaltenders that that are affected or take advantage. I think if you're in the zone as a goal, as a tender, as a tendee, sorry, you are going to be in better shape rolling right into the next series a day or two later. So, like I said, with forwards, defensemen, it's like you're skating every day. You're on the ice every day. If you need a day off, they give you a day off. If you need to heal up, they're giving you time to heal up. So there's definitely benefits to it, but you're still on the ice working with your teammates, so that doesn't really matter. Um, I get the ebb and flow of the games and the process and all that and the game flow, but no, if it's like if it if you're in the zone, like for instance, Frederick Anderson is Freddie, I think too much time off is is is tough on you.
SPEAKER_04So Montreal just according to it.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. So with that said, we're gonna move in to this week's top five. So being that we had the NFL draft, um, I think we kind of as a group decided that it was kind of appropriate, appropriate to go through and say what the top five is the top five biggest draft busts of all time. Here we go, our top five this week. Top five biggest NFL draft busts of all time. Starting us off is Steve Wood.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I got my number five is Trent Richardson. 2012 draft by the Cleveland Browns. Yeah. Um, but he is my only act currently active player on my list.
SPEAKER_02It can be past or present. This is the biggest, in your opinion, of all time. So that's a good one, Steve. Trent Richardson, number five all time. Yep. Uh Trent Richardson was a running back drafted third overall in 2012 by the Browns. So, yeah, after a promising rookie year, he was traded to the Colts where he averaged only 3.1 yards per carry. Wow. So good number five, Steve. Nick Brown. What do you have? Eight number five.
SPEAKER_03Number five coming in hot with quarterback for the New York Jets out of the number two pick in 2021, Zach Wilson. Hype versus reality benching, confidence collapse. Just God. And I thought I didn't think it's all his fault. I don't think it's all his fault. I think he was put in a situation that most people would lose.
SPEAKER_04I think it's what I think he is one of those where he lost his confidence because they had a shitty offensive line, right? He kept on getting hammered in the backfield, and he was never able to actually show what he could actually do because he was a talented quarterback.
SPEAKER_02But again, they would draft him on again uh his pro day was insane. He made an insane throw. He's like, Oh, he has so much arm talent. I'm so tired of that. I'm so tired of hearing about that. Every quarterback in division one level college and that gets drafted in the pros has a big arm, has arm talent.
SPEAKER_01Shut up already. Oh, yeah, it's uh Caleb Williams' arm is just so strong. Or this guy's arm is just so strong. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, number five, Brandon, the stuffed trainer. What do you got?
SPEAKER_00My number five is Lawrence Phillips, running back, drafted in 1996 by the Rams. He was the sixth pick. He only averaged 3.4 yards a carry in his first year, and his second year he didn't last because he got cut due to excessive in-season drinking. Wow.
SPEAKER_04That's incredible.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, uh, my number five was also Zach Wilson. I thought um, I I really like Zach Wilson, but again, it's you never know. Coming out of BYU, it was like, okay, you know, yeah, he's got again, it's these he's got a lot of these intangibles. It was like my thing was focusing on how he makes decisions, how he goes through his progressions and his footwork associated with that is a big thing that you look for for players in college because that is one of the things going into the NFL, the game is so much faster. That's what you'll hear a lot of quarterbacks say is the speed going from division one to the to the NFL is astronomical, guys. So if you think about this real quick before we continue, you're talking about the top three percent. Okay, this is the top three percent of the top three percent. So the top three percent of college football players get drafted in the NFL around one through seven. The top three percent of that actually start in the NFL, okay? And it's less than a percent of that three percent that make these big dollar contracts, okay? So you're talking about such the very truly elite of you know, you consider division one level college football elite for the elitist football, right? So that's what we're talking about here. So it's like people say, Oh, he was so good in college, and it's like, dude, calm down. Like these there's little things that you need to look at for in a quarterback, and the one of the biggest things is their personality, like how they process, things like that. So it's like that's why, as just yeah, work ethic, things like that as a fan, you look into it if you're evaluating quarterback talent. There's a lot of that stuff that goes into it, and that's a big one is footwork during while they're going through their progressions, what they do. Do they have happy feet? Do they get scared and run and do stupid shit with the ball? Stuff like that. So, anyway, I thought Zach Wilson, you know, had it looked like he had so much potential. So it's like, but yes, yes, he had arm talent. Anyway, going on, Steve, number four, my man. What do you got?
SPEAKER_04My number four is the the big disappointment of the last decade in Johnny Manzel.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that's fair. Height versus reality.
SPEAKER_04I yeah, well, and off field. I mean, he drugs, alcohol, partying when he should be studying.
SPEAKER_02Honestly, yes, because here's the thing: he could have been he dude, he yeah, he could have just been in the NFL for 10 years just because of who he was. Didn't have to be great. He could have just been no good backup, could have done so much, yeah. So, and he talks about it, he regrets it. So, anyway, uh moving on. Uh Nick, what's your number four, Bubba?
SPEAKER_03Number four, we're gonna go back in time a little bit to 2003 for the number two pick for the Detroit Lions, Charles Rogers. Uh, is an elite college speed, but he uh a broken collarbone and off-field issues, ended his career after 15 games.
SPEAKER_02Nice. Wow, that's a good one. Thank you, Nick. Brandon, the stuffed trainer number four.
SPEAKER_00My number four was a 2002 draft, the number one pick, David Carr, the quarterback, went to and is he was sacked 249 249 times, fumbled 68 times in his first five years, which is an NFL record.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I'm surprised to hear him on a top five biggest draft busts of all time. I I thought he had a decent well.
SPEAKER_04If you're a Raider fan, I could see it.
SPEAKER_02Sure. Okay.
SPEAKER_04I was you know, he was there, was he had a lot of potential and he just did not do it for uh uh the Raiders.
SPEAKER_02He was with the Houston Texans, David.
SPEAKER_04David Car.
SPEAKER_02We're talking yeah, you're thinking of a different car.
SPEAKER_04I must be. I thought I heard David Carter. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're talking about the first car who is a quarterback with the Texans. I obviously thought he was okay. But yeah, all right, moving on. I so my number four is again, this is a little back, but not too far. Uh, the third overall pick in 2002 was quarterback Joey Harrington. Joey Harrington was an absolute disaster. Um, anyway, that's my number, uh that's my number four. Moving on, Steve, number three. What do you got?
SPEAKER_04Um, people might not know this one, but Levi Brown. Okay. He was picked fifth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2007 as an offensive lineman.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_04I think he played like three seasons. I think he was probably one of the worst offensive linemen they've ever had. And he was drafted in the first round. Okay. I think he allowed in his first, I think in his first three seasons with the Cardinals, I think he allowed 40, 40, or 50 sacks.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Wow. Jesus. As a as a lineman.
SPEAKER_04That was a uh left tackle, I believe. Wow. Insane.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, Steve. Nick, number three.
SPEAKER_03Number three, going to the number two pick in the 1989 for the Green Bay Packers. Tony Manderich. Mandarich? Uh, they called him the Incredible Bulk. Um, remember that sports illustrated cover. Steroid rumors and ego uh outpaced his talent, and he was done in three years. Just a waste of a pick.
SPEAKER_02Yep, I 100%. Thank you, Nick. Great number three. I'm glad somebody put that on their list. Um, Brandon, number three, buddy.
SPEAKER_00My number three from a 2012 draft, uh Justin Blackman, wide receiver, pick number five by the Jaguars. He had an okay first season, but second season, he had four game suspension for substance abuse, which he then reviolated during the bye week and was not reinstated.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yep. I I yeah, that's yeah, that's a good one. Uh my number three is 2021. Um, the third overall pick in Trey Lance for the San Francisco 49ers. The San Francisco, the San Francisco 49ers gave up three first-round draft picks to trade up from 12 to get to number three to take Trey Lance. I want to just say I remember watching all of his tape. I mean, I'm talking every single play from college, and I was like, what the F are these guys thinking? I literally couldn't understand how anybody that has great football sense like John Lynch and Shanahan saw a number three overall pick in this kid. I got a lot of hate.
SPEAKER_04Thought that he was a good pick, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02I I you Steve, you probably remember me talking about this because I got a lot of hate online. And I I was like, I don't see. I'm like, they were like, what are you talking about? How do you know? And I'm like, through the magic of sight, guys. Just go watch. There wasn't even real evidence. Maybe it is pro-date of arm talent. Guys, he was a bubble street. His receivers at North Dakota State were amazing. I want to put that out there. Those guys deserve to be in the NFL. I'm sorry. Uh Trey Lance, and it's gotta be that he is a great kid, dude. He really is such a good dude. That's gotta be what he had to have charmed them because nothing on tape shows third overall pick, and this kid's good. Not just that, nothing on tape shows this kid's gonna be successful at the NFL level. I nothing. There was I'm sorry, but I just wasn't just that I didn't think that he should be third overall. I I I didn't I didn't even understand how anybody could see him as a starting quarterback in the NFL. No, I any any anybody can go out in the plays that they were running for him and not throw a pick. I so anyway, moving on. Uh Steve, number two, sir.
SPEAKER_04This one's kind of personal for me. It kind of goes along with what's yours, but it was Josh Rosen, Cardinals, drafted in 2018.
SPEAKER_02Yep, honorable mention, absolutely.
SPEAKER_04I don't know, I still don't understand why they drafted him. I think they traded him the next year. Yeah, I do you remember what I said about Rosen?
SPEAKER_02I said out of the NFL in five years, tops. Oh, yeah, it was four. So exactly. Yep. I a buddy of mine. I think he only entered just to get the money. He didn't care, he wasn't, he really didn't care about football. Talented guy, very, very intelligent. No, he he there's a great video of Bills fans that were pissed that the Bills took Josh Allen over Josh Rosen.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, now obviously the better to revisit those people.
SPEAKER_03How do you feel about that?
SPEAKER_02I dude, I love taking receipts, man, because I get hated on a lot when it comes to quarterbacks and my opinions. And when I'm right, literally like 85% of the time, it's like, yeah, I I I love it. I said, listen, I'm wrong. There's I'm wrong. I called Patrick Mahomes a bust. Yeah, yeah, that's a Everybody's an idiot sometimes, including me.
SPEAKER_03So, Nick, number two. Number two, gonna go to 2007, the number one pick for the Oakland Raiders. Jamarcus Russell. Oh, okay. $39 million guaranteed, seven touchdowns in three seasons.
SPEAKER_02And do you guys know about the camp like 70 pounds overweight?
SPEAKER_03Do you guys remember the infamous DVD test that he failed? No?
SPEAKER_02The USV.
SPEAKER_03They didn't think he was doing his uh required uh tape watching at home. And so the offensive coaches handed him a blank DVD in a case and said, Go watch these. And the next day he came back, like, do you watch him was like, Yeah, I did. I love these plays. These are gonna be great plays. And they're like, it was a blank tape, bro.
SPEAKER_02He was such a train wreck, such a train wreck.
SPEAKER_04I just how my how do you do that? How do you get to the NFL and then you just completely lose interest?
SPEAKER_02I I I don't know. Lazy. He was a lazy person, so Brandon, what's your number two, buddy?
SPEAKER_00First, I just want to say I was gonna put Trey Lance on my list, but I know how much you hated that pick, so I just left it all for you to go off on.
SPEAKER_02That's funny, Brandon. I all my friends know how what I thought about that pick, and I was like, you guys, you guys are you guys are idiots. I couldn't believe the Niners did that to themselves. But you realize the same year they took Brock Purdy, who's top 10 literally in every category, passing category every year. The dude's an absolute wagon, man. So it's crazy.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of quarterbacks, my number two is from 1998. The number two pick, Ryan Leif, drafted to the Chargers, who was a Heisman candidate, but man, shoulder injury, and just one of the worst attitudes a quarterback could have.
SPEAKER_02And I think a lot of Ryan Leaf's problems were uh real quick. That's also my number two, so we'll just keep it right here, real quick. And again, his just he got so wound up with the media and all the other garbage. He let the noise in, and that was when we saw those types of reactions from him. Listen, I I I all these guys are good people, man. They all are, and they are athletes, they are talented athletes, they wouldn't be in the positions they are if they weren't, but the media sucks. Let's just it's truth. They suck, they're garbage, they're full of shit. And it's like if you let them get into your head, it's gonna your life's gonna be terrible.
SPEAKER_00No, to be fair, all these teams have guys to train you and coach you on how to deal with the media.
SPEAKER_02They do, they're yeah, called publicists, right? But it's just yeah, man. So that yeah, that's also my number two, Brandon. It's just Ryan Leaf, he's got a great podcast, by the way. Shout out to Ryan Leaf. Uh, you know, and I a lot of what happened to him, too, was just not necessarily fair, honestly. He he did get a bad shake in other ways, so it's just yeah, it is what it is. I don't even think he was on that bad of a team, and you know, he even went to Indianapolis, like he had a couple of shots, so um, either way, all right, Steve.
SPEAKER_04Number one. Uh, mine was Jamarcus Russell as well. So you can just skip over me and go back to Nick.
SPEAKER_03Nick, number one, number one was Ryan Leaf. You could skip over me and go to Brandon's stuff.
SPEAKER_00Fair enough.
SPEAKER_02Listen, I go ahead, Brandon. Number one.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm pretty sure nobody's got mine. So my number one is number one just because for the absurdity of it. So it's from the 1978 draft.
SPEAKER_02Oh god, this is awesome.
SPEAKER_00Okay, the 15th pick in the first round, a kicker. Steve Little. First of all, never pick a kicker in the first round. I love kickers today.
SPEAKER_02Janikowski go in the first round. Can somebody check that? I don't know. Sebastian Janikowski, one of the greatest kickers of all time. I'm sorry, Brennan. Well, I listen.
SPEAKER_00I love kickers because it's like it's very kickers can be safe to the second round, but he would miss 14 of 27 field goals. He wasn't even good though. And and he was picked, the people picked behind him were Hall of Famers Ozzie Newsom and Doug Williams.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Doug Williams still holds uh the first half quarterback record, it just went off. Remember that when he was with the Washington Redskins? Like they scored 35 points against the Denver Broncos. Super Bowl 22. Doug Williams, absolute legend, absolute wagon. Turn Tampa Bay's franchise around. Doug Williams did that single-handedly. Oh, dude, how oh man. Damn.
SPEAKER_00That's why I say save the kickers the second round.
SPEAKER_02I that's a great that was a great pick, Brandon. Good research, good job, man. I you are right.
SPEAKER_04Sebastian was picked 17th overall.
SPEAKER_02I see, Brandon.
SPEAKER_04In the 20,000 NFL draft.
SPEAKER_02Kickers have feelings too, Buckaroo.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know. I I I love kickers. They're undervalued. Janikowski is a Hall of Famer.
SPEAKER_0419 seasons he played.
SPEAKER_00What spot was he picked?
SPEAKER_0417th overall.
SPEAKER_00So it wasn't top 15.
SPEAKER_04Brandon, he wasn't top 15. Fucking dick. One of so only five NFL kickers have been selected in the first round.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03All right. Do we know any of the other names besides Janikowski? Not yet.
SPEAKER_00See, exactly. So out of all the drafts, there's only one memorable kicker picked in the first round.
SPEAKER_02All right. So I'll just close us off. I mine again was uh was just Marcus Russell, but I am gonna go ahead and sidestep here because we've we've had it on already a couple times. I'm gonna bring up uh quarterback because this was again like uh you know an alternate was quarterback Achilles Smith. Anybody remember Achilles Smith? 1999, third overall pick. You don't remember him because he was such a bust. Drafted by the Bengals, third overall, 1999. The Bengals were so bad at drafting during the 1990s that we could probably have made an entire bust list. I got this off of, I was trying to get information on him, and I found this on a list, and I said, This is amazing. So it says that we could have made a bus list consisting of just their picks, the bangles. They just went off on the bangles, it was great. But we won't. They said, uh anyway, so he here's the information now. I just had to read that snippet because it was great. These guys just like went off. Um, okay, so where's it at? Where oh my gosh. Anyway, Achilles Smith barely played, like he was terrible. Honestly, people were shocked that I think uh doing all the reading on uh on this was uh like Mike Dicka tried to get the them to trade out of that pick. Um, he was coaching a coach of the Saints at the time, so there was a whole bunch of just missteps in this whole draft by the Bengals. It was almost like they just weren't prepared and they just threw a name out there. So anyway, Achilles Smith, it was just another train wreck, man. So um a lot of good ones, and uh yeah, great top five, everybody. Um, if you see this clip, let us know what your top five is or what you think your biggest draft bust of all time is. But other than that, please like, follow, subscribe, uh YouTube, um, give us a follow on TikTok, post, try to post daily on like the Stanley Cup playoffs, etc. Um, we all post uh shorts and um Brandon does all of our editing and puts us up on uh YouTube. So go like, follow, subscribe, share, do the whole thing, man. And also remember our podcast is on all platforms. We appreciate all your support here early on. It is greatly appreciated. So um, I hope everybody is enjoying the Stanley Cup playoffs. Um, final thoughts, Steve.
SPEAKER_04That's gonna always be about the NHL playoffs. I mean, I'm looking forward to the Carolina Hurricane starting back up again, hopefully in the next week.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh well game sevens are Saturday and Sunday, so it'll be next week.
SPEAKER_04So hopefully what Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
SPEAKER_02Yep. So we're getting ready to go. Some of these series, we're gonna see some game sevens. We're really excited. So, final thoughts, Nick.
SPEAKER_03I am hoping no one remembers what I said was gonna happen in this first round of the NHL playoffs. Um, but I've been having a blast watching it. I'm looking forward to hockey today. I got hockey tomorrow. What did he say? He said that the Senators were gonna beat the Carolina. I'm sorry, you're breaking up. What did you say?
SPEAKER_02Steve, you said the Bruins were gonna beat the Sabres, and the Bruins, I mean it hasn't ended yet. Oh yeah, it's buddy, it's over. Um, anyway. We'll see. Final thoughts, Brandon the stuff, trainer.
SPEAKER_00Just going back to the draft. Uh just want to mention the I think the biggest wasted draft pick of all time was when Tampa Bay drafted Bo Jackson because he hated that organization so much he refused to even play there and just sat out for an entire year.
SPEAKER_02We listen, we could go back through and do all-time just draft blunders in general, like the Eli Manning situation. I and Drew Brees, right? Like it was like what are we doing? Why did you just draft just to make a trade? I guess the biggest some of the dumbest shit happens at the drafts every year, so but yeah, that's a great one, Brandon. Thank you for that. Um, no more final thoughts, guys. Listen, I hope everybody's enjoying the playoffs. Remember, as a fan, don't be the guy that we were talking about in the beginning of the show. Come on, man. Be better fans, police your own, treat uh opposing fans like you would want to be treated in your building, okay? Fan behavior is incredibly important. Everybody going to these games deserves to have a good time, deserves to feel safe walking to their car, bus, subway, train, whatever. Okay. Please don't let fans get get bullied to the point. Ribbing and having a good time is great. It's absolutely great. I just saw it in Pittsburgh with with pens and flyers fans. Okay, all these people were great. They were amazing. So be that fan, okay? Don't be the douchebag, don't be a jerk hole. Okay. If you can't consume alcohol and not act like a normal human being and have a good time, please don't drink. All right. Everybody have safe. Everybody have a good time. Full strength podcast, another great episode. Thanks for your like, follow, and subscribing. And we'll see you next week. Cheers, everybody.
