Join the guys this week as they discuss everything going on in the sports world. This week they talk about the World Cup finals, the Boston Red Sox streak, and what the greatest football movies are of all time.

SPEAKER_00

Good afternoon, everybody. Good evening, good morning, wherever you're listening. Welcome to another episode of Full Strength Podcast. Episode number 28 is here. We are almost at our uh a benchmark of 30 episodes into this thing. Um, hope everybody's having a great week. Uh, we had kind of an interesting sports week. Um, before we get into that, let's uh get into intros. Steve, how's your week?

SPEAKER_03

It was good, it was busy. Got my oldest daughter coming back from college. So it's been a wee busy week moving her back from Charlotte.

SPEAKER_00

Trends headed to law school. That's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, three weeks she'll be going to Rhode Island.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome, awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Brandon, the stuff trainer.

SPEAKER_04

How are you, buddy? I'm good. Good week. Just busy with class and enjoying the return of uh Dark Side of the Ring. Some interesting stuff on that program so far. What is that? Yeah, it's when they look at uh major events that happened in the world of pro wrestling.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

So the people behind the scenes, figure out what really happened. Cool. All right, man.

SPEAKER_00

Well, enjoy that. Enjoy that. Awesome. Uh Nick Brown, welcome back, buddy. How was your uh how was your week?

SPEAKER_01

Week's been good. Um, my parents get into town for a little visit for the a long weekend starting tomorrow. Um, pretty stoked to have them here. It's been raining here in Flagstaff for the last six, seven days every day. When was the last time you saw your folks?

SPEAKER_00

Like two years. Two years. That's cool. All right, good.

SPEAKER_01

Too long. Excited to get them back. So uh getting the house clean as soon as we can wrap up this podcast. I have laundry. So that's my life.

SPEAKER_00

Fun, fun, fun. Sounds good. Well, uh, with that, we'll jump right into it. Um, start off. I know you guys mentioned in the in the pre-production call you you got my opinion on this matter, but uh go ahead, Nick. Talk about uh LeBron James. I could care less where the guy's going. I really don't care. Um, I don't think it matters. It's like it's stupid, he just ruins the sport, so I could care less.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I get that. Um, and we can even talk about that if you want to, but uh his his agent was on I forget which podcast, and pretty much said that he has three, maybe four with some dark horses thrown sprinkled in that he wants to move to, and it because he wants to win another ring, because he wants to do better than Jordan. Not gonna happen, not gonna happen.

SPEAKER_00

It's not gonna happen. It's he's not even in the top. I won't even have him top ten, guys.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, hot garbage. But his number one team is going back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Um cool. And then or going back to South Beach and going to the Miami Heat is his number two. The 76ers out of Philadelphia is his number three. Um, and he's also thrown around the Timberwolves and the Nuggets. Warriors. Well, that's his dark horse. Those are his secondary because he thinks he would be joining their team as opposed to making the team around him. He'd have to play Golden State ball. And the other one is the New York Knicks, but it's way lower on his list because the Knicks just won and he doesn't want to go there to try to make them repeat. He wants to go there and be a hero. Of course. So basically, I just wanted to touch on the idea that no matter where he goes, LeBron James is still solely responsible for the complete and total demise of the NBA. Thoughts?

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I I totally agree. I mean his his attitude and his uh don't get me wrong, his longevity is um a highlight all of its own. Just the fact that he's played for so long. But the fact that he has played for so long and he's still in that league that people think he's as good as Michael Jordan, I don't even know how that's even possible. No. I don't see him being able to do as well with against Michael Jordan back in the 90s as if Michael Jordan came today.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I think Michael could beat him today.

SPEAKER_04

Two other important notes is that Adam Silver said they're not making the schedule for next season until he makes the decision. And to go alongside that, his agent recently said he's not gonna be rushed into making a decision. He'll make it when he makes it.

SPEAKER_01

It's so yeah, and they and like what you just said, Brandon, the stuff is that they don't want to put out the schedule because the schedule is based like all the television, the late night games, the holiday games are all dependent on which teams he or which team he's on. That's just sad. It's sad. It's not a one-man league at all. Um, and it's just sad to see I wonder what's gonna happen to his son when he leaves the Lakers. Now they're gonna be like, Well, he already they he he told everyone that he was leaving as soon as Bronny got uh another deal. So he's staying. Bronny's a Laker.

SPEAKER_03

Really? Maybe he'll do better now that it's like dad's not gonna be there. We'll see.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know who's gonna yell at him. But yeah, that's I just wanted to touch on that. That's it.

SPEAKER_03

You okay with that, Brandon?

SPEAKER_00

You guys, good? All right, so moving on, uh, next topic will be uh so uh Caitlin Clark has had struggles in the WMBA. Um we were going over her stats and looking at Caitlin Clark because she's got obviously a ton of criticism in the WMBA. They've they put out some kind of ridiculous statement earlier because uh another player, uh Angel Reese, I think is the other one, and uh she complained about you know racial comments, but uh so the WNBA put out a thing about hate and you know so on and so forth, which is good because I know Caitlin Clark has suffered severe racism within the league. Um, but it's like you look back at her stats, she had a huge night the other night against Seattle. Um, in 20 minutes, 29 minutes, she put up 45 points, had two rebounds, uh 10 assists, and four turnovers. Um prior to that, on June 22nd, she had 20, it kind of went like this starting June 16th, she went 21 points, 26 points, 26 points, 24 points, 19 points, and then on June 8th, she only played 15 minutes and had 9 points because she was hurt that night, apparently. And then the following game, she only had 12 points, um, and then 13 points, and then put up 45. After the crazy, yeah, it's a crazy amount of points, record setting, I guess. And then following that game against New York, uh, she put up only uh 17 points, seven assists, two rebounds, and seven turnovers. Um five for five uh free throws, two for eight from three-point land, five for fourteen from field goals. So, you know, it there's there's a lot of talk. You know, it's like I I kind of dove into this a little bit statistically, she's not a top 10 player in the league. And then I understand she's very, very popular, um, and obviously very talented, but um, teams right now, I I went through a lot of film on this, and it's like all they do is literally just a god, man, they just beat her up. That's all they do, is they illegally just try to hurt it's almost looks intentional, like they're trying to hurt her. And I'm on the side of like, I like to believe that people have integrity and aren't doing that on purpose. But when you watch it, it's really hard not to see that and believe that that's actually happening. Um, I see I went through a lot of like uh you look at what these girls are saying about her, and it's very, very, you know, very disgusting. And I'm not even gonna repeat this stuff, but uh it's an interesting topic. It it's it's crazy because uh it it's it's definitely not because of Angel Reese. I that girl has an ego that I don't understand why she has an ego. Like she's she's not she's one of the least athletic people I've ever seen playing a sport, number one. Just watching the girl run is like I okay, I don't I'm confused at how this girl made the league, to be honest. And then there's other players that are very talented saying stuff that's like you should you should know better. Like, that's insanely racist and disgusting. Like, why would you do that? So I and I don't really care about I'm not even gonna discuss that any further, but it's really confusing because clearly uh Caitlin Clark has a huge following, and that is the really the only reason that the WNBA has become relevant again and the last couple years, yeah. It's definitely so irrelevant before that. I forgot that the league even existed. The attendance was worse than minor league baseball. It was like arena football or worse before this. Oh no, arena football, yeah. Arena football actually got attendance. The the these games, they there was a point years ago where they started building smaller arenas to make them look fuller for the WNBA. That was one thing that they tried to do. That didn't even work really, and so it's like uh there's a couple of teams that do pretty well attendance-wise, uh Golden State, but that's because it's again, it's new. Uh, the Bay Area sports fans are pretty good at supporting local teams. I mean, it's like you look at the San Jose Sharks, they were terrible for the last several years, but still had good attendance once COVID kind of came back. That was an area that was oddly strict even after COVID. But anyway, it's there's a lot of things. Uh most of these teams don't uh they don't even get to like 80% on these smaller arenas. Um but every time the fever comes to town, they have to move the game to the NBA-sized arena because it's sold out. So I I don't know. This is just weird to me. It's like you should be making sure this girl stays healthy, not trying to beat her up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't get it. And both sides are calling racism, and it's just like what about what about just being a good person? Yeah, I it's okay. Yeah, on integrity, like you said. I mean, it's sad. Um, did you guys see all the other stat lines that came off of her big 45-point game, though? No. Um well, she was the first player in WNBA history with a 40 plus and a 10 plus assist uh game. She was she set the franchise fever franchise record for 45 points. She's became during that game, became the fastest to 203s by uh in just 74 games, breaking Katie Smith's record of 81. And in under 30 minutes, she's the only player in WNBA or NBA history to log 40 plus points and 10 plus assists in 30 minutes or less.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, wow.

SPEAKER_01

That that's kind of cool that they included the NBA in that last step.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she's incredibly talented. I think right now she's dealing with injuries, is what it seems like. Yeah, it's her, I think it's her back. Yeah, it's I mean, it's like, God, I'm like, watch, she just takes shot, and they don't call it. That's what's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

It's like a funny little thing here that I just I just looked up who you know, highest scoring individual players for the MBA and then I uh for the WNBA, and it showed me the NBA. You know there's some uh uh Will Chamberlain scored 100 points in 1962?

SPEAKER_00

Yep, yeah, he's got a great picture of him in the locker room holding up a paper that says 100. Jesus, that's a lot of that was also back in the day where there wasn't as much height and athletic ability as there is today in the NBA. But I mean I think that goes with uh all sports though. You know what I mean? But yeah, yeah, you put up a hundred points. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

That's 53 is the highest for the WNBA. Three players hold the hold it for 53 points. Cool.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah, but they played a full game. Yeah, I mean I'm just saying, though those are probably full game stats. This girl played 30 minutes, less than.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. 20 29 minutes and 28 seconds that night is what she logged. She was 11 for 18 from uh or field goal, six of 10 from three and 17 of 19 from the free throw line. Free throw line. But if you look at there was an NBA player last season that got what 83? Um, he has a crazy weird name. Plays for Miami, and he got like 88 points. If you look at his free throws, he had like 40 free throws that night, which it was crazy, it was like 40 something percent of his points came from free throws. Wow, because he's but he goes to the paint, and dude was dude was just slinging it that night. It was just happened last season, it was really cool. So, but uh anyway, I I don't know. I and it's like I don't know what the fix is for the WNBA. It's there it I see a lot of just like over-emotional bullshit. It's like whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Caitlin Clark refused to go to the uh three-point contest scheduled on the 24th.

SPEAKER_01

Good, good, good. She'd probably get fouled during that too.

SPEAKER_00

And honestly, I I wouldn't either. If I here's my thing, guys, this is flat out. I would I would leave. I'd go sign with the big three who's offering her 15 million dollars. I'd go do that. I would go do that and watch the WNBA go to shit instantly. It's never made a profit. Ever. The NBA is allowing this to exist and has for years. The other thing about it, too, that's really interesting is that you've got the PWHL. They should really go look at what they do. And and you're talking about a very violent sport, those girls are completely different, like just cut from a different cloth.

SPEAKER_03

I love the videos of their people showing hockey and then showing soccer or football, and the like the hits, and how one person will get hit and they'll like flip three times in hockey, land on the ice, and they'll get right back up, and a guy in the soccer will get like flicked in the ear, yeah. Like he'll roll on the ground like he just got snipered.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. It's just it's a different mentality, it's a different commitment. It's just I I don't I don't know how to put it, man. Like, I I played, I remember I remember playing a game where I had three broken bones in the top of my foot and a busted, uh like uh what's not your middle finger toe. Your ring, I guess it'd be like your ring finger toe. And it was like everything was painful. Like I would go and like your foot hits the boards like in tight, and it would I I remember being so excruciating, but you you know, you're going with the adrenaline, I guess. I don't know, but it's like you look at when in the NHL when those injury reports come out, and it's like you got guys playing through torn knee ligaments, and it's I tried to play with a torn partial 70% of my MCL once was torn. Okay, and I remember trying to get out there, and it was just almost impossible to even like certain pivots. And the doctor was telling me, like, if it was completely torn, it'd be a lot easier because it's gone, but you have no support when it's partially torn like that. Every time you click on it, it's like you it's it's reiterating that pain, right? So it's really, really painful and it sucked. And I didn't, I think I you know played finished the game and that was it. I couldn't because of the it was almost like I asked, I think I remember even asking, like, can you just tear it the rest of the way, or is it and they laughed, they were like, No, and then you have soccer where they it's they roll on the ground. I mean, I'm like, wow, like who said, like someone of the uh Nick or Brandon said like they've been shot. It's like that's literally it, like they act like they've been shot.

SPEAKER_03

So they always roll too. I always find it funny when they get like kicked in the shin, they hit the ground, they start rolling on the ground.

SPEAKER_01

It's so they can cover their face, so you can't see them not crying, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So they can get their expression right by the time they roll back around.

SPEAKER_00

It's like shame, right? So anyway, but well, with that said, we'll move on. Um, you know, let us know what you think. If you know you're watching this video on YouTube, like leave a comment, let us know what you think on this whole issue, and I you know, I'll put some of these clips up on TikTok. So if you've seen us on TikTok, let us know what you think, man. I I mean it's yeah, it's just it's really, really interesting. So, and it's like again, you look at the PWHL is gonna be in its fourth season next year, guys, and they're they're the owners of the league are like, yeah, we're probably gonna turn a profit already. They said we didn't expect to turn a profit until 10 years. They said they're just gonna continue to reinvest. They could have had a they said that they're probably not gonna turn a profit because they're just gonna sink so much more money into it because of its growing success. It's like maybe they need to figure out how to get to that point, but and I think the issue for me is that it's there's it's the self-harm.

SPEAKER_01

They're literally hurting their cash cow, they're they're hurting the thing that's making them mainstream the right.

SPEAKER_00

Sure, but but it's also also guys, women's basketball, I'm sorry, is it not entertaining? I I in the WMBA anyway. It I think some people like it. Absolutely, Steve.

SPEAKER_03

And then what Nick is saying is that they're hurting themselves by I, you know, isolating this one person that's bringing all this attention to the league, and it's just not worth it.

SPEAKER_00

I it's not entertaining enough to just be like uh okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because she's captured the Midwest and brought a lot of new fans in from the Midwest area.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she is. But there's a certain group of people that doesn't like it because of these people or a certain thing. So I yeah, let's just move on. Anyway, all right, so moving on, uh, a little bit of NHL. There's uh not much going on right now. We did have a few contracts. Uh Connor Bedard is signed uh $15 million a year officially, which is uh great for the Chicago Blackhawks, and there is some talk. So a little bit of an interesting tidbit with the NHL. What is Macklin Cellebrini going to sign? He came out publicly and said, I don't need to be the highest player in the league. I want to make sure that everybody on this team and we can keep this team together so that we can be, you know, he straight out said, we want to build a dynasty here. He's willing to take less money than he could get in order to make sure everybody is happy on that team. 19 years old already thinking like that. The other player on the team, Will Smith, another kid that's gonna garner 10, 15 million a season, said the same thing. We want to stay together. Everybody is so happy there already. They're not gonna take these max deals. So it's like, what is he gonna get? Does it matter? Everybody on that team is so having so much fun and they're so happy. And the way Mike Greer built that team, after this season, he's gonna have 94 million dollars in available cap space. So it doesn't matter, he's gonna be able to sign everybody. And when the next group, real quick, Steve, before you say something, the next group that's coming up, these bullshit contracts that he did with Darnell Nurse and Marchmint and and Truba, they'll be gone.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's true. See, that just takes a lot of maturity to to, you know, of that age to realize that he can offer that and make a good team and not get paid a lot. Versus, you know, you have like the NFL and NBA where these players are just always after the money.

SPEAKER_00

Would never happen. Yeah. So that's that's crazy. That's big. Good for him. Good for them. Yeah. I was like, that's that's pretty cool. Because what do you think he's worth? Macklin Cellebrini, if you could get him, what would you sign him for? Well, obviously eight years, it'd be a max contract.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know because that's a hard. I mean, that's I mean like he's he don't get me wrong, he showed a good as being a good player those last uh last season. He's generational.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Just watch him skate and play. Right.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but you know, the the question is. Is he going to be injury prone? Starting in a couple years. And you know, he's going to be out. Look at Badard.

SPEAKER_00

Bedard is.

SPEAKER_03

But so I mean, it's just hard to tell. I mean, I don't know if eight years I think what was the highest rate? The one somebody just got paid for.

SPEAKER_00

18 years is a max contract in the NHL.

SPEAKER_03

And somebody didn't somebody just go like six years, 60 million, or six years, 80 million?

SPEAKER_00

It was 18 million AB or whatever. Yeah, it was 19. It was Leo Carlson, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

19 a year or 19 total?

SPEAKER_00

No, 19 a year.

SPEAKER_03

19 a year.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. And the ducks matched it.

SPEAKER_03

That's right. So that's right.

SPEAKER_00

It came out to like 120. For Leo Carlson. Great, great young player, guys. Great young player, Leo Carlson. Philadelphia's who offered it to him, and then Anaheim came back and said, no, no, no, we're going to keep him. Because I think Carlson's going to be a 40-50 goal a year guy. There's no question about it.

SPEAKER_01

But I I have a question comment since you guys brought up this particular thing. I was looking at this earlier. Yeah. Do you think okay? I don't want to say that this is a conspiracy. This is just me thinking out loud. Did Philly just weaponize the cap against Anaheim?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_01

By offering offering money that and then like, no, we want him. And so then they had to offer him now, like they're kind of in a shitty spot because they had to pay him so much money. Nope. It's almost like bridge deals are dead. Gotta go big or go home.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, they that's very well, that's a hell of a strategy. I mean, I wouldn't put it past people not to do that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I've watched a lot of contracts this season, and that's just that's the only one that's been like that. It's not like a trend, if that's what you're asking.

SPEAKER_01

No, but could it be a weaponized a weaponized deal that a strategy to kill cap space for the ducks?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, that's possibility. I wouldn't put it past people these days. But no, I think that's a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think a wide must do that because the other teams what if the other team doesn't do it? You're on the hook for that contract, so I'd be dumb.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, if you can but make does Philly have a cap space to do that move. I'm just saying I think that they wanted the trade and offered that much money knowing that if Anaheim matched it, what since they were gonna had to be matched, huh? It wasn't a trade, it was a free agent offer. Sorry, the the free agent contract. I wrong term, but I don't know. I just an idea. I was no, I understand your point. You're saying weaponized.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe they had inside information knowing that the ducks, no matter what it was, were gonna match whatever the Flyers did, and a strategy as to put it as high as possible, knowing knowing that the ducks were gonna kick it.

SPEAKER_01

Either way they win. Like they win because they get Carlson or they win because they just fucked screwed the ducks.

SPEAKER_00

I my question is why would a team in the Eastern Conference try to screw a team in the Western Conference? Like that's true. There's absolutely no rivalry there, they're not in the same division, they're not even in the same conference.

SPEAKER_03

That's true. Like maybe they don't like their waterboard.

SPEAKER_00

I yeah, I'm like, what is the entire point of that? Like, I'm just sorry, I'm I'm trying to understand like why. So I don't know. Um the top 10 best value contracts right now. This is via the athletic. Um, they did a top 10 best value right now for the players. Speaking of contracts, and these are what they that this is what they've come up with, is uh number at number 10, it's Jack Hughes um sitting at four years. He's only making eight million a year right now. That's a huge, great value. Rasmus Dallin in Buffalo is at $11 million a year for the next uh six years, but that's a newer contract. That's a great value right now. It really is. Um, Dustin Wolf, uh, that's the goaltender. Great, great up-and-coming goaltender right now for Calgary. This kid's a stud. Probably gonna be top 10 if he keeps on the same track that he's on right now. Is it seven years? They got seven, they got him for seven more years, and he's only making seven and a half million a year. Um, Seth Jarvis in Carolina is sitting at $7.4 million a year for the next six. Great, great, great team-friendly deal. Um, Logan Thompson um is only getting $5.9 million a year for the next five years. That's a great deal for the Washington Capitals. Uh, Maureet Sider in Detroit is sitting at only $8.6 million a year for who he is, and that's for another five years. That's a great deal. Uh, Jackson Blake, another one in Carolina. $5.1 million. They've got him for eight more years, and he is looking to be an absolute stud. Um, one of the great things about Carolina is how they've managed the cap and brought that team up. This is a very much a homegrown team. They drafted very, very, very well. So Carolina's really good shape for the next 10 years.

SPEAKER_03

Oho is up for renegotiation, I think, this next year.

SPEAKER_00

Sure. There'll be players that will be, absolutely. But they still have a lot of cap room to play with because they've done such a good job building that team. That's when you build through the draft, and you you're a you have good scouts, you have you draft well. This is what happens. Carolina's gonna be a stud team for another 10 years. They just start, they're gonna be uh Briggs and Hagel. I really like this deal when uh Tampa Bay signed Hagel, they got him for six and a half million for six years. Great deal. Uh Jake Sanderson, 8.1 million for six, and then Lane Hudson signed for only 8.9 million kids of stud in Montreal. So that is great, and they got him for eight years. So it's just an interesting thing. You got players that are taking lower money to be on better teams. I love it. So, anyway, that's uh that's what I got. Um yeah, so and you know, we'll have fun with fun with that when when training camp opens up, when this is all said and done, and we start to see where teams are going. So um, what do you guys think?

SPEAKER_03

For contracts?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, again, like Brandon, what do you think, buddy?

SPEAKER_04

Well, just looking, there's still a lot of great players out there that haven't found homes yet. There are got Patrick Kane out there, Logan Stanley's still out there. Uh Terrasenko's still out there.

SPEAKER_00

Teresenko? I that's a great that'd be a great like third line anchor guy. The kid can still play, might be a second liner on some teams, Brandon. Don't you think?

SPEAKER_04

No, he's a great player. I love to watch him play.

SPEAKER_00

I I said third, but really it's it's really he'd be a great second line center for somebody or winger. I love that one. Go ahead. Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm still waiting to waiting to see how all this free agency still shakes out some of those big great values.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, and like Nick Nick brought up a couple weeks ago, you still have Dylan Larkin's saga. I don't think he's going anywhere.

SPEAKER_01

I actually dug into it. Um, his no trade clause, his destinations are Florida, Dallas, Minnesota, and Vegas, all four of which are tightly capped out, leaving very like leaving no room for a trade. So he may be he may be awake again.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I think that's I don't think he's going anywhere. I really don't. Like a lot of it's just BS out in the media, and it's yeah, so anyway. Um yeah, sorry, I was looking something up. So um we did have uh there was a major um for golf. We did have a major championship. Um the open, for those of you that don't know, is like the US Open, but it's over overseas. Um sorry, I'm trying to this is always so I don't like the way there it is. Um, it was in Southport, Great Britain. Um, it is in it's the same place, it's kind of like the Masters, it's in the same location every year. Um, absolutely beautiful course. It's uh an amazing event. It's like you always watch it, it always looks a little rough weather-wise. Um but the uh the winner was from I'm trying to see where he's from. His name's Ryan Fox, but I believe he's a home growth. I believe he's from Great Britain. That's what it looks like. I'm trying to see where he's from. But anyway, um, Ryan Fox for the tournament um shot 10 under. Um close behind him, uh, by one stroke was Cameron Young. Um, also at uh a third was uh Sam Burns, great player, also from the United States. He was also he was at 8 under, sorry. So yeah, a great, great, great tournament by Fox, who on the last day or on the third round, he shot a 62. Just had an incredible day. Shot a 62, and then to finish it out, shot a 68. Uh Cameron Young on the last day shot a 64. So he made a run at it. He really did. Uh Cameron Young for the rest of the tournament uh shot a 67, 67, had a bad, not bad. I mean, had a rough day for a professional golfer on uh on Saturday uh and shot a 73, but came back with vengeance on um on Sunday and shot a 64. Great day. But uh yeah, Fox was 72, 68, 62, and 68, so had a really great day. The open is again, guys, just a great, great, great event. Um, it's one of the four majors. Um, so uh congratulations to Ryan Fox. Uh Tommy Fleetwood, always there as usual. Um, finished uh fourth. He's always in the top 15. He had longest time. Tommy Fleetwood didn't have a single PGA tour win, but was like always in the top 20 money earners. He's just always there, doesn't always win. So um, and then Scotty Scheffler was also tied for fourth um at uh seven under for the tournament. So um Ryan Fox is from New Zealand. That's what it is. I'm having a hard time seeing the the flag here, Nick. So thank you very much. Um so there was also another New Zealander, um, Lucas Herbert, also finished tied for six. So uh that's Australia.

SPEAKER_03

What? Uh according to the according to this, Herbert is from Australia.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, they're under the same flag, sorry.

SPEAKER_03

And so his ace suit is also Australia.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well, either way, um, they're under the same flag on this standing on Yahoo, so it's like I'm just going through their stats. So um anyway, uh another mention Bryson de Chambeau finished 14th. So I bring up Bryson Chambeau for a reason. There was a little bit of a controversy at the tournament. Bryson de Chambeau and Rory McElroy, they do not like each other. Rory McElroy made it very clear, I don't like the guy. He's like, I think it was for show and for act. Bryson Chambeau stepped on his ball. When he stepped on his ball, the officials went, uh, they gave him a two-stroke penalty. It is the rule. Uh Rory McElroy got in there and said he thought it was theatrical and if he he did it on purpose. He didn't do it on purpose. Bryson de Chambeau's good dude, great golfer, but he took the money and went to live. Okay, I I don't care what I can care less. I'd have taken the money. They were offering these guys 60 million dollars. 60 million just to go play on the tour. Yeah. Without even winning. I would have taken the money and left the tour for that because you still get to play in the majors, you still have your tour card. The tour went through this whole thing where they tried to kick these guys out and blackball them and all this, that, and the other. But the guys that went were top 10 in the world. So Bryson Chambeau being one of them was at the time wasn't really looked at in a great light. He was kind of just like a nobody, but then he took social media and did the right thing with social media, and people got to really know who he is, and he was fun and just a really fun guy to watch. And he hits bombs like 400-yard drives, guys. This guy's insane. So, Rory McElroy was one of the very vocal guys, did not like the fact that guys were going to live and leaving the PGA tour. He thought they should be blackballed and was kind of a baby about it initially. Okay, so it's like that all got squashed. Live and PGA were gonna merge. Um, they're not doing that currently. I'm not really sure what's going on with that. But all that aside, Rory McElroy made it very clear how he felt about Bryce and DeShambeau. What do you guys think?

SPEAKER_01

I heard that he stuck, like he stepped on his ball and he also stepped on the weeds behind the ball so that he could have a better backswing. He was in, he was in the he was in the shit, as they said. Yeah, he was in like he looked like cattails, like it was not a place you wanted a golf ball.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's a hard course, but again, it I what you said, Nick, is I think he was trying to stomp down that stuff, the the the rough, and he he stepped on his ball. They gave him a two-stroke penalty.

SPEAKER_03

Well, he deserved a two-stroke penalty, whether it was an accident or not.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you know, what is he rule? What has he said?

SPEAKER_00

Like you talked about McElroy, like what has he said coming out after the I haven't seen everything on Bryson Chambeau yet, to be completely honest with you. I just saw this like yesterday. So it's like I I I just know Rory McElroy's opinion was all over the place. I think Bryson Chambeau is kind of being quiet about it still. So it's again, he was like, you know, I did it on accident, and I think he he was a little emotional about it, but I mean it's like it's a big tournament, man. You know what I mean? And he was in the top, he finished uh he finished tied for 14th at the end, and if you look at his final day, it was a 72. Two strokes, guys, puts you in the top six, so it's that close. And it, you know, I if it was, it was. But I no, I don't think it was intentional. He's got integrity. I I, you know, he was doing what Nick said or Steve and trying to stomp down the stuff, and he stepped on the ball. It was an accident, but like Steve said, and he's 100% correct, it's a rule.

SPEAKER_01

I just I don't think he's complaining about the rule. I think that he should just come out and say that it was an honest mistake. I didn't mean to step on my ball, obviously, like I'm a golfer, like I'm trying to whatever.

SPEAKER_00

He's a professional, it's a prof you want you you hope that these are all professionals, but then you look at other sports, you're like, Well, yeah, well at the same time, these guys, not everybody's gonna love each other or like each other, guys. It's it's just it's a fact of life. If everybody thinks these guys are all kumbaya together, it's like they don't dude, those guys don't competition, man.

SPEAKER_03

Of course they're not kumbaya.

SPEAKER_00

Man, yes, I guarantee it. I guarantee it.

SPEAKER_03

Guarantee there's some that hate each other just because they lose to them all the time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I can tell you, I get or one guy bumps you out of the money. Yeah, yeah. I've I've played like you guys know, I play in a lot of golf tournaments. I do sometimes single, I do two guy team. Um, sometimes I I try to stay away from these four-man scrambles because it's like guys, go there. I like to compete. I don't care what it is. I I like to compete. And it's like when you go to four-man scrambles, you get you know, you're on a team of four guys, and it's like you have two guys or three, you know, one or two guys that are just there to drink and not try to compete. And it's like I I can't stand it. That's just me personally. I don't like it. I don't like I no, I don't drink when I golf. Especially it's like if I'm even if I'm by myself, I'm there to compete against myself. That's different. People think I don't think I can play golf without drinking. Yeah, I've never, I just don't, I do not drink when I golf. So it's and but if I'm with buddies and we're just hanging out, dude, drink all you want, man. But I'm not gonna do it.

SPEAKER_03

Because I wouldn't be playing golf otherwise.

SPEAKER_01

So you still in that situation, you still wouldn't drink if you just hang with your buddies? Nope.

SPEAKER_00

No, not on the golf course. When we're done, I'll I'll drink. Yeah, sure. But no, absolutely not. So, but I don't care if others do. I don't I used to love like drink playing softball and drinking a pitcher of beer. You see, I I never drink, I don't even do that when I'm playing like rec league softball with people for fun. So I just don't. It's just I don't I don't, I'm sorry, I just don't do it. But it's if if we're in a scramble and it's a tournament, I'm I'm I want to win. I want to get closest to the pin. I want to hit the longest drive. I want to get into the top three or four. That's what I'd like to do. And it's like I've golfed with guys that when they drink, they get so sloppy and dumb. It's like, okay, yeah, this isn't fun. I don't know. It's not fun.

SPEAKER_01

Some could say, Steve, that eating a hot dog at a baseball game is as important as having a beer on a gun.

SPEAKER_03

You know, you're right.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just saying, we all need ammo for all of us.

SPEAKER_00

And now we have some on Brandon.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just messing with you.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not drinking for golf. It's okay. I like to compete. So no, when you compete, you don't drink.

SPEAKER_04

So how far you can hit the ball walk being completely sloshed. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

I don't see any, I don't see how that's fun at all. Honestly, I don't see any fun in that. So I get it. Yeah. But anyway, so yeah, there's the open championship. Um it'll be interesting to see if Bryson Champeau has anything to say this week and or more on it. Like I said, I haven't really found much on it yet, but I did see that Rory McElroy was just very open about his disdain for for Bryson. And I like I said, I he didn't say it goes back to the whole live thing, but that's what it is. It's it's it's it's been an ongoing thing for for a while.

SPEAKER_04

And I don't see any reason for him to say anything. It was just honest mistakes. Well, golfer hasn't made an honest mistake. It happens.

SPEAKER_00

And honestly, if it's if I'm in Bryson's chambeaux, I don't even I don't even answer questions about Rory's comments. Yeah, that's honestly how I would handle it. I'm like, okay, yep, no comment. I it's his opinion, whatever. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I just don't see why you would you know why even comment on it. It's like Rory's, you know. I like Rory McElroy, he's an incredible golfer. I love that he won back-to-back masters, but it's like, dude, it's throw up, man. Come on. It's not it's just not a great look.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah, if he hadn't said anything, nobody would have cared.

SPEAKER_00

What's that?

SPEAKER_04

If McElroy hadn't said anything, nobody would have really put anything.

SPEAKER_00

There was a lot of comments. That's why he said something, and that's why it was brought up. So a lot of people were saying stuff. That's why it came up. A lot of people have been saying stuff about Bryson Chambeau's reaction and everything. So actually, it's it's the opposite. That's why he was even addressed and had to address it. So Bryson looked to, you know, he had his hands out. It was very anime, he was animated about it. So yeah. So anyway. Alright. Uh we had the World Cup is over. Um did you watch a game? No, I didn't watch uh a single game. Um yeah, I think it's great. I I mean I followed on what was going on. You know what I mean? It's uh you know France, France. Yeah, there could have been a lot of better teams in that final, but um France lost six to four. Um, I the only way for soccer to reach that score, I'm pretty sure they had to have no goalies playing or something. Um that'd be like that'd be like a hockey game being 52 to 50, or a baseball game being 75 76. Um, or maybe a football game 132 to 110, something like that for soccer to have six to four. Wow. Um the Spain. And Argentina game was a little bit of a letdown. So I I was again, I was at uh a tournament and I know that it was on, but what I didn't get to see a lot of it. Um I know it went into extra time, and that's when Spain scored.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Go ahead. They almost the Argentina was obviously because they got a red card, so they were trying to get it to the shootout, because they weren't gonna win unless it went to shootout because they just didn't have enough people to push offensively. Um but yeah, I mean, even if that was the case, or even if they were able to, um, the I from what I looked at the stats, they didn't even have a single shot on goal on goal the entire game.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's not true. They ended up giving them 20. Uh it was 20 shots on goal from for Spain and three in Argentina.

SPEAKER_03

That must have been in the extra inning game.

SPEAKER_01

But they were held without a single shot on target during regulation time. Okay, all their shots on goal came in came in extra time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we're talking about shots on gold, not shot attempts, correct? Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Both they didn't have a very they didn't they only didn't have any shot attempts in the for in the regular uh regular time either. The goal is the size of a school bus. I know. But I'm almost I think they almost paused that they didn't have any attempts either.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. But like, you know, if there's if they're gonna kick kick a shot, pick a goal or kick a goal, a shot attempt, I should say, and it's going to be wide, the goalie's not gonna touch it because he wants it to go out of bounds so that he can get a goalie kick. So because of that, that's not a shot on goal.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

Shot on goal is it's gotta be within the box. So it's just like hockey. Yeah, just like hockey. You do have to give props. Spain became the first champion in World Cup history to only concede one goal throughout the entire tournament. Crazy that they only got scored on once. In what, eight games?

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, Spain's a wagon, dude. I was looking at them. Yeah. Spain's Spain's always, you know, very rich culture when it comes to the sport of soccer. I mean, it's yeah, I know, I mean, I know that much.

SPEAKER_03

But I mean, there wasn't a bad game, it was kind of a it was kind of a letdown though, because I think it just wasn't it wasn't really hoping, essentially, is what you're saying.

SPEAKER_00

You were hoping for what a little bit more was disappointing about it, Steve, in your mind.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was just yeah, it was the like Nick was just saying, it's like almost like they were being too careful with the ball. They were there was a lot of just a lot of passing, a lot of I don't know. It just was kind of it looked like I'm not a soccer person, but it was kind of boring.

SPEAKER_01

It looked like both teams were trying really hard not to make the first mistake.

SPEAKER_00

So they were playing too conservative, almost like that's what they weren't, they weren't going balls out, balls of the wall, like let's go get this.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, and there were some great saves playing scared. Uh I don't scared doesn't sound like the right term because I think they just and to give credit where credit was due, Spain had you know 20 shots on goal. There were some major saves and like diving saves and absolutely goalie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, goalie in Argentina, like he he put on he put on a clinic for a regular.

SPEAKER_03

But with how many shots against him? I mean, he was diving all over the place.

SPEAKER_01

All over, so it wasn't both sides, like I mean, good for him, right? Props, props for sure. Props props the goal fighter. He and he had uh he looked like he was a little bit older, too. I don't I don't know how old their goalie is, but he had some gray hairs on his head.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if that was because of the game or that's a very athletic position in that sport. You've got to be able to, if you think about what you have to be able to do athletically, number one, you gotta have hops, you gotta be able to jump and jump fast, you have to be able to change directions. Reaction time has to be top tier. I was just gonna say, Steve, the reaction has to be phenomenal, honestly. And you've got to have a huge, a massive leg in order to get the ball downfield. So that's it, it's yeah, hats off and applause to their goaltender for you know keeping them into it. And a a whether you like the game, the sport or not, you cannot deny the icon that is leaving the sport and the sports world. And that's that's that's messy, right? It's Messi hasn't retired, Ronaldo retired. Well, yeah, the Argentina guy they said is retiring.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're both retiring. This will be their last FIFA, both of them. Ronaldo and Messi will be their last.

SPEAKER_01

So just you know, hats off.

SPEAKER_03

It's you know, and and I think Messi might still play in the regular L. He's not gonna be in FIFA. This will be his last cup game.

SPEAKER_01

Correct. His last international game, yeah. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

So it's you know, did so much for that country. And sport everywhere that he's played, yep, for the sport. Just just an incredible, uh, incredible, great human being. And it's you know, sad to uh it's always sad to see the end of an era, you know what I mean? It's like either way, any way you look at it, it's like yeah, so anything else on uh soccer in the World Cup, boys.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it could have been three to zero, but two of Spain's goals got called off.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't did one, Brandon, did one happen in extra time after they scored and made it one to nothing? Yeah, there was okay because we were off sides. We were doing this. Um I was part of that tournament, this pro am, and we were in the middle of drafting our our pros to play on our part of our little team that we did, and I could see it, and it looked like a huge commotion. Like one got called back after they scored in extra time. Is that what happened?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, because he was just like just like millimeters off sides. Oh okay.

SPEAKER_01

Just barely yeah, like a shoelace.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so Argentina did like, did they even make an effort? Because my son was at the at our at our club with us while this was going on, and he was running up kind of like outside of the bar in the restaurant and looking at the TV and trying to see what was going on, and he thought that Argentina had scored or tried to score, but did they have anything called off at all? Not that I remember, no. What's that, Brendan?

SPEAKER_04

They never had anything called off, but like I was playing like Spain's a team that likes to control the ball, so that's why they had like massive like stats wise massive, they did do that, they controlled the ball over them, and yeah, Argentina just wouldn't step up. Like, I think Messi only had like three touches in the first half, so I don't know what was going on with him. They didn't wake up until the extra time. There was, I think one of the Spain players I think might have saved the game for him because they had one kick that looked like it was heading straight in, but one of Spain's player, Spain's player blocked it right with the middle of his face.

SPEAKER_01

That looked like it was actually was actually injured, not yeah, yeah. Like he's the instant replay was like right here, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, I nailed him square in the face. Um I was amazed he didn't break his nose. But and then you had the kerfuffle after the game, where one of the Argentina players decided to start attacking Spain's players for some reason. And so I didn't see that. Yeah, it's being investigated by FIFA now. Like he grabbed one of the Spain's players by the throat, threw another guy to the ground. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_03

Second youngest player to ever win a cup, too, was on Spain. 18 years old. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Was he the kid that scored? Was it Torres?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he scored. Uh he was also a substitute. He came into the game late, like you know, at the end of regulation, whatever, to be fresh, and he's the one who scored the 106th minute. Pretty cool.

SPEAKER_04

Spain had two teenagers on their team. Wow, that's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

And they're that good.

SPEAKER_00

All right. Well, moving on. We've got the baseball. Baseball, we are into the dog days of summer officially. Um, baseball, the all-star game. Again, we talked about it last week, it was fantastic. Great home run derby. Again, if you haven't seen the home run derby, go back and watch it. It was fantastic. Um, but here we go. It has begun. This is the next six, seven weeks are incredibly important. You've got the trade deadline coming up in just a week here. So um it we'll find out, I think, in the next week or so, who really is going to be sellers. I know the Giants, people are saying the Giants are gonna be sellers. I I really don't think that's the case, to be honest with you. I don't. I think the Giants are in a building process and they're good with it. Um, I know a lot of fans aren't happy, but it's, you know, I really believe they're not gonna be as big a sellers as you think. The only player that could go from San Francisco, I believe, could be Luis Arez Arias. Um, and that's just simply because he's on a one-year contract and he's an absolute stud. So we'll see what happens there. Um, outside of that, I don't like Colorado's in the bottom of the barrel. I don't think they're gonna be sellers. Um, and it's always this whole thing like who's gonna be buyers and sellers, and it's like the media is always wrong.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, what do you consider a seller, though?

SPEAKER_00

They get rid of three people, like they're they're trading players.

SPEAKER_03

I know, I know, I know, but how many players is it for them to be like a major seller?

SPEAKER_00

Every everybody's on the table, like it's they're gonna listen to offers for everybody, and it's like they're gonna let big guys go. I don't know about the Giants fire at the deadline. You're going to you know be a team that's looking for that difference maker that's gonna help you in the push for the playoffs as well as in the playoffs. You have a lot of teams sometimes that do and take what's called a loner. Um, you might take a player, player A, just for that season. Team B that's trading the player knows that this player's on a one-year contract, knows that he's probably not going to re-sign, or they know they're not gonna re-sign him. So, what they do is they trade him to a big-time team that's maybe pushing for the playoffs and for a deep playoff run, like let's say Atlanta, or you got Seattle that's just outside. Um, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Arizona, these types of teams that are looking for that one guy that might help them. So they'll take this guy and trade like a first-round draft pick or a high-end prospect for a player that's not even going to be on their team in six months. So it's kind of interesting to see if any of those deals happen.

SPEAKER_03

Looks like Zach Netto is up on the block.

SPEAKER_00

What's that?

SPEAKER_03

The Angels. Zach is up on the block for the Angels. Looks like they're listening to all offers for him. What's his name? Zach Neto.

SPEAKER_00

Zach Neto.

SPEAKER_03

I'd have to look him up.

SPEAKER_01

Nick, what were you saying about the Giants? No, I was just saying that when I was researching for the podcast uh this week, I saw that San Francisco, San Francisco Giants are now listening to offers, but I don't know your roster well enough to be like, ooh, but so this isn't a gotcha moment, but Heliot Ramos and a utility man Casey Schmidt are both. Yeah, they're they're not they're not gonna let either one of those guys go.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely not Heliot Ramos.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_00

He's not. That's so that's what I'm talking about. It's like you see, you hear these these rumors, and it's like they're gonna listen, sure. Yeah, I mean they'll listen, but you know what I mean? Like Buster Posey's not an idiot. Sure.

SPEAKER_03

I see what you're saying, because I mean like right now, it looks like the they're saying that angels right now are gonna be pretty much selling everybody that they can.

SPEAKER_00

And and Steve Heels need to, man. I I I've never understood, I feel so bad for Mike Trout. His entire career was just he's gonna always be one of those players that it's like, what could have been if he was on a bigger team or a better team? Yeah, and he's been he's been so loyal, he's such a good dude. He's been so loyal to that organization, and all they've done is nothing for him. They let Shohei go. Shohei knew I bet you almost immediately because he was like, I gotta get out of here. You know what I mean? And it's like a jumpship. And it's just like, God, let poor Mike Trout go, man. Let him go. Let him go to a team that's actually building. I'd love to see him in San Francisco. I'd love to see him be a part of this rebuild. But he's also older. Yes. You know what I mean? I'm gonna say this also, guys. Right now, Yankees aren't winning that division. No way. I think it's gonna be the Sox.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think Austin.

SPEAKER_04

What's that, Brandon? Oh yeah, they're doing really good.

SPEAKER_00

That's yeah. Uh I'm I yep on board. They really have. I think the Red Sox, and I know this is just, I'm not even talking about just the win streaks, but I'm talking about the Yankees are trash. I it's I don't care about the hate. I I really don't. It's I've watched them over the last week and I'm like, this team's terrible. They they can't hit. And it's I know you know we talked about this ups and downs, but yeah, man, I I could see the Sox honestly making a run for the division. Um, they're what six out right now, and it's Tampa Bay, really, that's in charge of that division, but I don't know, man. And I know the Sox are on this huge win streak, but I still think I like the Sox for that division.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they match their 60-year-old record with 15 wins in the world.

SPEAKER_00

Is that what they're yeah, is that what they're at right now?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Well beats their record.

SPEAKER_00

What's that? One more win beats their record. Their record, and then you've got Oakland. That remember that was the the money ball team, right? It's uh yeah, they they're they're at 20, so it's like can they go for another six or seven, even? I don't know. So I'm just looking, I'm trying to see, like, oh man. There's other teams out there. I I I think Cleveland, Cleveland's struggling right now. I'm not sure what they're gonna do. That's gonna be really interesting. They don't look like they're just not playing good ball right now, so they could flounder.

SPEAKER_03

Man, the Red Sox series next is gonna be up against the Blue Jays, too. Um, although they're losing right now in the bottom of the third four four to nothing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Toronto's not great this year. I don't know what happened.

SPEAKER_03

They're playing the Oilers right now, and they're not Oilers. The Who That's really bad if they're losing that.

SPEAKER_04

They're definitely gonna win against the Oilers.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody's having salads and wine at the ball game. Right, Steve? Is that is that right?

SPEAKER_03

Close enough.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

They're not gonna save the athletics injury. No, Joshua Kuroda Guar. Probably missed I'm probably saying that wrong, but yeah, he was at bat, hit the ball, the ball went straight into his groin, ruptured his testicle.

SPEAKER_05

Wow. Really?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Off a foul tip? Yep. You gotta remember how fast that ball's coming in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So imagine how that must have felt.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, like you're so he's out for the rest of the year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, hits IO with ruptured test sculpture felling ball. Oh my god. I that's that's brutal. I can't imagine how much how painful that probably was, but wow. Wow, speedy recovery.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, it's so fast, dude.

SPEAKER_00

So sometimes it doesn't matter, dude. I mean, it's in that area, but I a lot of guys don't. Yeah, a lot of guys don't. I mean, I understand why. I mean, it's you know, but yeah. So anyway, I I I think it's we got a lot of great stories. I think it's gonna get really fun going into August. I really, really do. Um, I still think there's a couple of divisions, there's some divisions here. Um, again, you still have the NL is just the teams at the bottom of these divisions are just so far out of it. Even, even, you know, they just they really are. Even Milwaukee, Milwaukee's slowly pulling away in the central. You've got the Cubs that are still there, but you know, the Cubs are even, you know, almost they're five and a half above third place, and they're six and a half from first. Um, Pittsburgh is in the wild card position. You never know. I think Pittsburgh's got some young talent. But I think the the fun is like we were talking about a couple weeks ago. You've got the AL East last place is 12 and a half out. You've got the AL Central 11 and a half out, and the AL West 11 out. So, and those are the lowest teams in each, those are the bottom feeders in each one of those divisions, guys. It's it's wide open, and the way some of these teams at the top are playing, it's really wide open. It really, really is. So, yeah, anyway.

SPEAKER_04

The AL West, you got Texas in the lead with Seattle only one game back, and Houston only three back.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So that could be down to the wire.

SPEAKER_00

Really, it really could, Brandon. And it's still you still have teams that if they get hot in August, anything's possible. They're not too far out of it. So that's all I was saying. It's in in in the NL, it's like you've got bottom teams like San Francisco, Colorado, 22, 27.

SPEAKER_03

I was just looking at that.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, look at the National League West. It's the Dodgers, and then everybody's more than 10 games back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's just the Dodgers.

SPEAKER_01

It's the Dodgers.

SPEAKER_00

But again, you look at what the Dodgers have done in some of these contracts, and it's like when this team ages out, Dodgers are gonna have a rough time for a long time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, look, the Diamondbacks are 11 games out, and they would have gone eight and two in the last 10.

SPEAKER_01

That's crazy. Still 11 games out, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's still 11 games out, yeah. So yeah, it's just yeah, it'll be interesting. I've gone, I love the showhays contract, is one of the greatest of all time, and it's like his he's only making two million dollars a year right now. Oh, you were telling us about this. It's all after he's done, yeah, it's all deferred compensation. So for like 20 or 30 years, he's gonna get like 15-20 million a year. That's when he retires.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, that's a retirement plan for him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, dude. Everybody always talks about Bobby Bonia and it's Bobby Bonia day when it's like Ken Griffey Jr. had a deal for 15 years with the Reds. He got $6.8 million once a year. That's how you set up your retirement plan. And then at 55, your pension kicks in, your MLB pension kicks in. Which isn't a ton, but it's still five, six hundred thousand a year. I'll take that.

SPEAKER_03

So anyway, I'm pretty sure anybody would take that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So anything else on baseball, Brandon? The stuff. No, nothing else.

SPEAKER_04

I see. Steve.

SPEAKER_03

Nope. I'm I am looking forward to the end of the end of August, though. Yeah. Yeah. You gonna go to any ball games? Not any major league games that I'll go to. Um, I've gone, you know, to uh the Durham Bulls, but not uh I don't know. Have you been to a game yet? For the Bulls Atlanta's, yeah, I have gone to one.

SPEAKER_00

Uh why didn't we get a picture with you eating a hot tug? Because I didn't have one.

SPEAKER_03

I was at the restaurant. I went to a restaurant.

SPEAKER_00

You still went to a game.

SPEAKER_03

I went to a restaurant.

SPEAKER_00

And did it connected to the stadium? If you where you were sitting, you bougie bitch. You need to have a hot dog.

SPEAKER_03

They didn't sell them.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. Folks, I'm posting this on TikTok. You need to get comments and lambass this guy. What he eats salads and drinks wine at the restaurant basement. Dude, I've never had wine. I haven't had wine in like a decade. This is what and now he's he's he's he's lying. Nick, I I don't know what to do here, man. Do we need to write this kid up?

SPEAKER_03

I haven't got wine. I haven't had a drink of wine since I got divorced.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna need Steve's phone number because I'm gonna send him a 7-Eleven hot dog and like an Uber Eats and bring it with me. No, right now. Like I'm just gonna send you hot dogs every day.

SPEAKER_00

He goes to a game and he's so fancy he can't even sit in the seats. So what'd you what'd you have? What'd you have, Steve? Like uh some encrusted uh uh a Manhattan Nachos and Wings. Nacho and wings, and you still couldn't. Did you at least drink a beer? Oh several, yeah. Several, and you still couldn't have a hot dog.

SPEAKER_01

They didn't sell them. The restaurant didn't sell them. Listen, Linda, this is not the way we're gonna do this, Steve. We need you to correct your mistake, Brandon. I'm gonna need you to have a beer on a golf course. Steve, hot dog at a baseball game.

SPEAKER_00

There's a difference. I'm not gonna drink a beer at a golf course when I'm competing. That's idiotic. All right. They didn't say you had to be competing. I didn't say you had to be competing. It doesn't matter. Like, I actually like to play golf. All right. Well, I like to drink beer, so yes, and have a hot dog. All right, moving on. Monday happened, and NFL training camps have officially opened. The NFL is back. We are here. Um it's hot, and guys are probably miserable. They're going through their hell weeks right now, I'm sure. So NFL is back. We've got the uh believe it or not, the Hall of Fame game is less than two weeks away. Um, NFL is here, and it's gonna be here for the next seven months, eight months.

SPEAKER_03

So um Steve, anything you are looking forward to here as we move into the NFL and the covers, it's not looking forward to, but I've been watching the whole Kyler Murray Vikings debate on whether he's gonna take the starting position. Anyone that gives him a starting position is gonna regret it.

SPEAKER_00

I know you've never you've never liked Kyler Murray.

SPEAKER_03

No, I was never a fan of when they got picked up.

SPEAKER_00

I know, and I I I was always the positive one when we had discussions about it, and was like, he he's got such a big arm, dude, and he's he's he's accurate with it. It's just he's you always yeah, and I I've always loved his his ability, and he wasn't just panic and run, he was actually a good guy in the pocket, he could sling it, but he just it was almost like he was too small, you know. You have like your, you know, like you had your uh, you know, like Drew Brees, I think was always a short guy, but he had the arm and talent to do it. Um, you've got Brock Purdy who's what six foot or six one, but insanely talented.

SPEAKER_03

You've got these guys that's not five nine or five ten or whatever he is, and that's what the problem was. He's five eight. Five's eight. I mean, he was just so inconsistent. I don't get me, like I said, he's a talented player, but he just very fast.

SPEAKER_01

He's got wheels too. Any quarterback who is playing professional football who needs to have a call of duty clause in their contract. Do you know that he has a clause in his contract?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I heard about that.

SPEAKER_01

Where he's not allowed to play Call of Duty during the season.

unknown

Oh man.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I know you got an addiction problem if that's the case.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and and that's absolutely true. But yeah, it it this that's a that's one of the situations that's gonna be interesting to watch through training camp. I like because I think JJ McCarthy's legit. I think he's had some problems with injury, but and we'll see, you know what I mean? It's like I could have been wrong on that one, but I really like JJ McCarthy and loved him in in Minnesota, but again, it's like gotta stay on the field, you gotta be healthy. And I mean to be that unhealthy this early on with development is could could hamstring his career, and that's unfortunate. But um, I'm gonna say right out the gate, I'm really, really interested and gonna watch closely on some of these quarterback situations. Uh, not really situations, but guys that are developing. I'm very curious to see how Cam Ward's gonna do. Um, I really want to see how his development progresses this year. I think the kid is incredibly talented, loved him coming out of college. Um, it's not often that I like a lot of number one overall picks because it's some a lot of times they're overhyped, and it's just like the kids aren't most of the time they're overhyped. I know. And so it's gonna be very, very, very interesting. Um, one that I'm also watching closely is Jaden um Jaden McDaniels. I or sorry, Jaden Daniels. I don't know why I added Mick there, but um had a great rookie year. I didn't I wasn't crazy about the way that he played initially until when and then he got hurt. So I'm gonna watch. I think that one's gonna be very, very interesting this year. Um, one of the biggest ones, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

He did have a good year.

SPEAKER_00

What's that?

SPEAKER_03

I was trying to remember who he was.

SPEAKER_00

His rookie year with Washington, yeah, it was great.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I was I was trying to put a face to the name, and I'm like, who the I couldn't remember who the guy was.

SPEAKER_00

I still thought that Bo Nicks should have been the rookie of the year. I still thought Bo Nicks was better, but their stats were so close. Um, I think Jaden, Jaden Daniels got the rookie of the year because of you know, it's a media thing. I don't you don't put a lot of emphasis on it, but um, because Bo Nicks would have been was my pick to win rookie of the year that season, so maybe that's why, but um I think this is a put up or shut up year for uh for old Bryce in Carolina. I can see that. Go ahead. What do you think?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I mean, yeah, you're not wrong with that.

SPEAKER_00

That's uh yeah, I know it's listen, he he I thought he I liked some of the stuff that he did last year. Because I was I called him a bust coming out of college. I was like, he's gonna be a bust. So I was like, I keep all the receipts. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I admit it.

SPEAKER_03

This will be his fourth year. So he's gonna be his three. This will be his fourth. Yeah, this is definitely a uh can you hack it here?

SPEAKER_00

In my opinion, this is it. This is where you call him it's it's like, is he a bust or not? I said he was a bust coming out of college, but I'll say this: I saw some things that I really liked out of him last year. I saw some improvement. I saw him, he didn't panic in the pocket, his footwork looked a little bit better, his decision making under pressure was what I really liked. He wasn't going to just tuck it and run, he threw it away. He didn't make stupid plays. I saw that a lot out of him last year.

SPEAKER_03

He reduced his mistakes this year. Yeah. Last year, yes. Um, it is a I hope they I can't remember what they Carolina did to surround him, though. Um, I know he needed a better and upgraded offensive line because he was way too he had to move too often.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

From the bucket. Yeah. And it's just his decision making at times is just was it has been terrible, and it's like he's pretty much did exactly what I thought he was gonna do, and that's just collapsed. But again, it's there there was a little little bit of okay, maybe he's maybe he's developing and maybe there's a chance for this kid.

SPEAKER_03

He'll have one more year on his contract after four. It's usually a five year, right?

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, I thought this was his fifth.

SPEAKER_03

Says he was drafted first overall in 23.

SPEAKER_00

So 23, 24, 25. Okay, you're right. This is going on his fourth year. So, yeah, in reality, it's like I always give quarterbacks five years. That's just what my own thing. And so we'll see how he develops this year. If we see back, uh if he takes steps back, it's gonna be pretty apparent that he is, yeah, he's a bust.

SPEAKER_01

So anybody else? I'm excited to see. There's a bunch of quarterback drama. They have Kansas City, um, looking to see how Justin Fields fits in there and how long he plays there. Um interested to see what the Raiders are gonna do with Mendoza. Like the stuff is said, I don't think it's gonna, it's it's he's not sitting all year. There's no way.

SPEAKER_00

That's and then that's it's and that's a detriment to him insane. It's not the way it should be. I don't believe he's gonna play this year. I think Kubiak is too smart. So I'm gonna stick on that. There's there's just no way, and the the backup that they have is there for a reason.

SPEAKER_04

No, right, there's no way Kubiak plays Mendoza, he's not an idiot, so I don't disagree with any of that, but he's not the one that's signing the checks.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, exactly. I mean, you there's always those years where you have the especially just the fans or the media pressuring everybody, you know, because somebody's having a bad season, their starter, and they're like, put the you know, the backup in because he was drafted number one or number two.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And I'm always the one that's like, F the fans, their opinions don't matter, neither does the media, honestly. Everything we say should not have any kind of an influence on your F and GM or your head coach of an NFL team, period. It should not matter, but it does. So if it does and you allow that, then you're soft and you don't belong in the NFL. That's my opinion. Flat out, period. Get it. If you let that influence you, you're not a good coach.

SPEAKER_03

So right now it's saying that the Kirk Cousins is a starter, Fernando is gonna be the backup, and then Aiden O'Daconnell is gonna be the third string.

SPEAKER_00

Aiden the pond, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I mean, Kirk Cousins get hurt or has you know a bad start to the season. I can it's easy to say that they're gonna pressure uh pressure them to put Fernando in.

SPEAKER_00

They're still rebuilding. They're not what did they they're not they're not a Super Bowl contender or even a playoff contender. So it's like and everybody knows that. So what does it mean?

SPEAKER_03

Unless you're a Dallas fan. They're Super Bowl contenders every year.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Dallas again has a good team going out on the field, so they sh they should be in the playoffs, but yeah, we know how that goes.

SPEAKER_04

But anyway, um just to see how long we go until we get our first uh referee controversial call.

SPEAKER_00

First week. Yeah, I'm like, fans are dumb. They're always like, That call, gosh darn it, that call cost us to win. Well, what about the 30 plays that you didn't execute in the quarters before that? No, it's always that one flag. If you're complaining about a call, you never had a chance to win in the first place. Stop blaming refs and penalties, you're an idiot. So, but uh yeah. Um, there was uh, I thought this one was interesting. Um Sports Illustrated, I never pay much attention to these, but I thought this was actually uh uh somewhat accurate for the first time I've seen anything in a very long time coming out of like a media outlet. And um, the top 10 secondaries in the NFL, Sports Illustrated, put this one out, and uh Houston Texans at number one, which I think is absolutely that's an easy pick for that. Yeah, oh my god, Steve, they're defense, they're gonna be an absolute wagon. This they're gonna be insane. It it's you almost put Houston as a Super Bowl contender just because of that defense. They have to be in the talk. Just because of that defense is so good. I mean, we're talking about a defense that could be historically good, Steve, Nick, Brandon. Um, Denver Broncos were at number two. Again, this is just the secondaries. New England at number three, the Rams at number four, I thought was kind of questionable. Um, Seattle at number five, Pittsburgh, I thought this was a little questionable, but I get it at number six. Philadelphia seven, Baltimore at eight, Chicago at nine, and Indianapolis at ten. I thought it was pretty accurate.

SPEAKER_03

Uh is that is so is that after is that starting right now or was that the end of no this is the end of the regular season going into the season right now?

SPEAKER_01

Going in okay, based on the draft and free agency and all the other noise that's done up.

SPEAKER_03

So I mean, uh yeah, I mean Rams, I questionable. That was because I mean there's a lot of unknown there. Honestly, the Rams, um Chicago, they had a I mean they had a great secondary last season.

SPEAKER_00

That's what I mean, and they they stayed the same.

SPEAKER_03

But they have a lot of unknown going into this next next season.

SPEAKER_00

So just we're talking about the cornerbacks and the safeties.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like our linebacking core and our defensive line changed in Chicago, but our secondary really hasn't. Right. Um I'm excited to.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, well, yeah, they've got some good young guys, but so wait. Does that mean Indianapolis? I thought was almost too low. Indy's great.

SPEAKER_03

No, I would actually put Chicago higher on that list because I don't think the Rams are I don't think the Rams are should be that high.

SPEAKER_00

No, yeah. No, the Bears, the Bears have a solid secondary. I agree. But it could be higher. I also think Indianapolis could be higher.

SPEAKER_03

Texas are definitely like you said, they're in the perfect spots. Those two are right.

SPEAKER_00

New England Indianapolis up to five. I'd put Seattle at four. I'd put the nine, and I think I would put uh Chicago at six and Indy at five.

SPEAKER_03

What were the Patriots at?

SPEAKER_00

Patriots were at three, I feel like that's very, very accurate. That's a good spot for them. I feel like the top three are perfect. The Pats, Denver, and the Texans. I I feel like that, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's the top three right now. It's those three are literally lights out. What's scary about Indianapolis or a Houston is that I think they also have the best front in the NFL.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

I buddy, I don't know. Like, you're talking about a team that could rival the 84 Niners, the 85 Bears, the 02, the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. That's where I think you're at right now. That's where I think you're at. Or even the 1449ers that were they were carried to the Super Bowl by that defense. That was Caitlin Crap and trash here. So I yeah, man. I I think Houston could be historically significant.

SPEAKER_01

It'll be interesting. I'm waiting. I'm excited to hear some of the stories coming out of camp about. Yeah, you're gonna see. They're coming. Yeah, they're coming. I'm excited.

SPEAKER_03

So it's Houston just picked up Caden McDonald, too. Yeah. Yep. So he's he's gonna be a if he does well, I mean he's gonna be a rookie, but if he does well, that's just gonna boost that line, that defensive line.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So it it really is, it really is gonna be a lot of fun. And everybody listening, just so you know, we are going to jump into a top five series. We are gonna do the top five worst quarterback rooms and the top five best quarterback rooms. These top fives will be based on important who the backup is, who has good vets in the room, who has the best situation, and who has the worst situation. The worst is gonna be quite easy. Um, also thought about that we would do um, and coming up about two or three weeks in or three or four weeks into training camp as we get into the preseason week two. We're gonna start a series where we start to predict our divisional winners as we go through and go with the AFC and then go through the NFC, and then by the beginning before just before the beginning of the season, we will do our playoff predictions. Pre-season playoff predictions are always fun, it's always interesting to see what you're at and uh and how you did. Last year, I got two division winners wrong, but it was you know, it was an interesting year, so but uh yeah, I everybody that I had that we talked to, nobody had Seattle even I think past the wild card round in preseason predictions.

SPEAKER_03

So I didn't even have the Patriots making the playoffs.

SPEAKER_00

I had New England in the AFC championship game in mine.

SPEAKER_03

So you didn't yo yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Did you have the Broncos going anywhere? What's that? Did you have the Broncos doing anything last year?

SPEAKER_00

I'd have to look, but yeah. Oh yeah. I big, big, big, big Denver fan as far as like what they've been doing, and like, yeah, I definitely had Denver. I mean, I love Bo Nicks, I think he is legit. Um said he was legit coming out of college, just uh he was I I'd have to again go back and look, but I'm pretty sure Bo Nicks was the number one quarterback on my board in that draft. So yeah, big Bo Knicks fan. So um yeah, so anyway. Um and that's the other thing, it's gonna be a really interesting college football season as well to see what QBs kind of emerge and really look like they're gonna be a difference maker when it comes to who's gonna take them in the draft, what teams are gonna be able to get a game changer because the next draft is gonna be a big quarterback draft. Arch, you got Arch Manning coming through, among others, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's yeah, among others, but like to see who's gonna if he's gonna be the quarterbacks or if he's gonna get dethroned or I it's always it's it's it that's always a thing, and it's always the media, the media, the media, the media, and it's like I I I honestly believe scouts get clouded by it.

SPEAKER_00

I really do, because uh you look through and it's just like god, how are they just they're wrong so often. I here's what I think is a big contributing factor to that is the interview process. I it's hard not to fall in love with some of these guys and their personalities, and just they're such good people. So many of them are just good human beings, and I think that sometimes clouds the judgment. Like for people like myself that just do it as a hobby. I don't get to meet these guys and talk to them or talk to their families or talk, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

It's like I go just based on tape, statistics, or interviews, or statistics, or I don't do any of that, Steve.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? So it's like it's I think that is a major contributing factor to the fact that like I'm right a lot because I you don't get to meet these people and get to you know have heart to hearts and like become emotionally involved. Does that make sense? I think that's a big, big thing. So anyway, but at the same time, there's you're not always right. I said Patrick Mahomes was gonna be a bust. So it's nothing wrong with that one. It's it's never um I felt okay about that one because it was like a lot of people said he was gonna be a bust. When he came out of Texas Tech, it was like I was like, nah, I don't see it. And you know, like I said, it's not I'm not right a hundred percent of the time when it comes to QBs. I was looking at like something like eighty seven or eighty eight percent or so.

SPEAKER_03

But um Well, you can pretty much be assuming if it's Cleveland picks a quarterback, or if Arizona picks a quarterback, they're gonna be a bust.

SPEAKER_00

Shoot them straight down. You know what's funny? I hate, I did not, um, I did not think Matt Leiner was going to be worth an uh anything. I thought Matt Leiner was gonna be bad. You remember Josh Rosen? I told you Josh Rosen was not good. I was like, I remember the Bills, the Bills. Oh my god, the Bills fans wanted Josh Rosen. And I'm like, dude, is I think I said he would be out of the NFL in five years, and what did it take? Four seasons. Yep. He didn't even finish his rookie contract. So I and it was like my thing with Josh Allen was I remember I remember this one vividly, and it was I said, Josh Allen was a huge question mark on my thing, and I was like, it all depends on his work ethic. I'm like, if the kid has a work ethic, then yeah, the sky's the limit, he's big body, but he had goofy feet in college, he was very inaccurate, but a very strong arm. Um, he had terrible footwork was the big thing, but he could he was patient though, and he was athletic, like he could make moves for being Ben Rothelsberger's size, but it was like, oh man, no, he's it just depends on his work ethic. I said if he's got a good work ethic, this kid could be amazing.

SPEAKER_03

And yeah, so many turk so many uh potential quarterbacks lost it because they don't have a good work ethic. A lot of it, Steve. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

It's like they're all great athletes.

SPEAKER_03

If you get drafted, they get there and then they they feel like they don't have to work as hard anymore because they've now made it to the NFL. And Marcus just your work just starts.

SPEAKER_00

DeMarcus Russell is what you just said with a bow on it.

SPEAKER_01

Johnny I uh I would be used to him. I told you now Johnny Manzel had a lot of other his blank blank DVD uh that the coaches gave him to see if he actually watched his tape, Demarcus Russell. How the his co his coaches gave him a blank DVD and told him to study it. He came in the next day, like, this tape was great, like I see exactly what I was doing wrong. They're like, it's blank.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. Oops. He's just yeah, Jamarcus Russell was also had no work ethic at all. He just that's that's what is that's what it was. So and he also turned in one of the best pro days of all time.

SPEAKER_03

As soon as he got in, he as soon as he signed that contract, he didn't fucking know.

SPEAKER_00

It was over, bud. It was over 100.

SPEAKER_03

So I'm just gonna scale on my talent now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but anyway, with that said, we will uh we'll move on. Um, we had uh we'll go ahead and just jump into our top five this week because we're running a little long. Um we will be covering the NFL in a big way coming up here. Um as you can see, we talk about it a lot. Yeah, we are going to also coming up this fall. We are going to do an additional episode, Better's Corner. We are going to go through and uh I will be making picks to bet on every week in college football as well as the NFL. And when hockey starts, I will also be giving out picks for that as well. Again, I have a high win percentage. I do make a little bit of money um betting on sports, but only in the fall. I only do NFL and really not even college football, but we're gonna see how it goes this year. Um, but mainly NHL and NFL. Um, do a lot of player props. Um, I have a win percentage right around 51%, depending 48 to 51. If you know about betting, you know that that's extremely high. So um, but yeah, we will do an extra episode and we will track it and uh we will be putting that on. It'll be a short little like half-hour episode that we'll do in addition to our podcast. So look forward to that this fall. Don't forget to like, follow, and subscribe. So, with that, um, we will go into this week's top five with the NFL season starting top five football movies, boys. Are we ready? So ready, ready. Brandon, don't look so enthused.

SPEAKER_04

This was a tough list for me to make. Really?

SPEAKER_03

Actually, for the top five, it actually was a tough one. It was hard to narrow down to top five.

SPEAKER_04

Because of the choices, too many, or what was it? Yeah, I had nine had seven movies and I had to eliminate two of them and then try and figure out the order for the remaining.

SPEAKER_00

I okay, that's that's fair. There, there is a lot of great football movies out there. I 100% can understand that. There's some just great ones out there. This was also to narrow it into a top five. There's probably five movies that I have that could also be in the top five that exactly. And I I watched a few of them this week, and there were movies that I I still love, even though people have destroyed the the movie.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, I was reading some of the critic reviews on some of these movies. Yeah, and they just blast them, and I'm like, what are you talking about?

SPEAKER_00

That was a great movie. People are soft, they want to see like a Notting Hill movie. Kissy kissy. Oh, it's too, it's too, it's too machinistic. What a terrible game. And I'm so unathletic, it makes me mad to look at these types of movies. Oh shut the up. Anyway, with that said, Steve, kick us off, baby. Number five.

SPEAKER_03

Rudy.

SPEAKER_01

Five.

SPEAKER_03

Again, that was a hard one because I I I wanted to put it higher, but then I was like, I gotta, you know, I got these other ones on here.

SPEAKER_00

And I took I'm just gonna say mine is also Rudy at number five. And I I I took it out because of Joe Montana. He destroyed the movie. Joe Montana completely wrecked that movie. They carried him off the field as a joke. That wasn't serious, they did it as a joke, making fun of him. So there's that. It's like they didn't chant his name, they did so much stuff, dude. It was like it was crazy. They didn't walk into the coach's office and put their jerseys on the desk. It was like Joe Montana on the Rich Eisen show just destroys this movie for 20 minutes. He doesn't even like Rudy. That's what I was like. He was like, Yeah, he's not that good of a guy. I was like, wow, every time I watch that movie, I cry.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I could start it halfway in the movie and still cry by the end.

SPEAKER_00

Same, same. 10 minutes. That's one of the few movies that'll tear you up. Bro, I'm crying every time. It doesn't matter. And even after Joe Montana, my childhood hero destroyed it, I still cry. So I also put it at number five, but it was out because of that initially. And I'm like, Mother Joe Montana destroyed this movie. Brandon, the stuff. What is your number five, buddy?

SPEAKER_04

My number five from 2000 is the replacements. Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman. Okay. Just a fun movie. Some I enjoyed just a fun movie to watch.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. It's not, it's not a bad flick. Yeah, it's a good flick. Um, Nick Brown.

SPEAKER_01

First off, I will say that Rudy is my number seven. Because number five is taken up by Waterboy.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Right on. Steve, number four.

SPEAKER_03

Waterboy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, good, funny movie. It's always fun. I love that movie.

SPEAKER_03

I can do that movie on it all anytime and just let it play.

SPEAKER_00

I'll watch it. Yep. If it's on, I leave it on. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Brandon the Stuff Trainer.

SPEAKER_04

My number four from 1932 is Horse Feathers, the famous Marks Brothers movie. One of my favorite committe group of comedians. Very good. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Nick Brown, number four. Number four. Can't go wrong with the whipped cream bikini. Gonna go with varsity blues.

SPEAKER_00

That was uh, yep. Also, my number four was varsity blues from 1999. It says it's a quintessential coming of age classic about high school players navigating teenage life, parental pressure, and a tyrannical coach in Texas.

SPEAKER_03

Just a great cast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and it the way they the way they mount up at the end there, and you know, Lance is on crutches and the running back's out, and they they stop him from giving him the needle and all that shit. And yeah, it's a great movie. The way they come through at the end and Billy Bob gets the hook and ladder. You're not gonna call that stupid play where I run down the field and look like an idiot and lost, are you? And uh the part where Tweeter's on the sideline at practice and he looks down, he's putting his cup in, looks back up, pauses, looks back in, and then looks up and goes, What is that? Anyway, good movie.

SPEAKER_03

Steve, number three. Uh, my number three uh replacements.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

It's already been said, but yes, sir.

SPEAKER_00

Brandon the stuff trainer, what is number three for you?

SPEAKER_04

My number three from 1994, Little Giants. I don't need all.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, very good. Good classic. Now a classic.

SPEAKER_01

Nick, number three, sir. Number three, based on a tragic true event. We are Marshall.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's a good movie. That's a sad ass movie. Yeah, it's in my top ten, but yep. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Good movie. That was my number six. Yeah. It got bumped, unfortunately.

SPEAKER_00

I got you. God man, sorry. My I'm busting, losing it with allergies here right now. Um, my number three is the program. The program is from the late 90s. It's about top 10 college football back then. Um, it's uh about Joe Kane going for the Heisman against the Michigan quarterback, and just what top 10 college football is like. It's like just what it's actually like. And they really went deep into it on this one. It's more of a drama. Uh, great, great, great movie. Um, some great actors in it. Um, but yeah, what a great, great, like real, real like film. You know what I mean? It's like a real movie about top 10 college football, and probably still rings true to this day. Um, so yep, that's my number three is the program. Steve, what is your number two?

SPEAKER_03

We were Titans.

SPEAKER_05

You mean remember the Titans?

SPEAKER_03

Remember, sorry, remember the Titans, yes. No, it's Remember Marshall. I know I have the back item mixed up here. Yeah, remember the Titans.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, great, great movie. Um, it's funny that's also my number two. Um, it is based on a true story loosely, um, since we both have it. Um obviously they they cinematize it, you know what I mean? But yeah, it was two teams, uh, two schools that yeah, were being integrated. And it uh, you know, black and white during that time was very difficult. Um the only real thing was that the coach that Denzel Washington plays was the coach of the other school. He wasn't like a hired gun, but they made him the head coach when they integrated the two schools. You know, it was a it for for for whatever reason, doesn't matter, but yeah, what they did and how they became one and just made that work that year when everybody outside, even of their own race, hated that. It's like they went through so much, it was such a great story. Yeah, so and the Bird Tear guy that actually did get hit, that was a true that really happened, and it was a you know tragedy at the end of the season and ultimately died. But anyway, good movie. That's also my number two. Brandon the stuff, trainer. What's your number two?

SPEAKER_04

My number two is a little forgotten movie from 1986 called Lucas, starring Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen. Very honest portrayal of teenagers back then. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, Nick, number two. My number two is a nice blend of high stakes competition with military precision. My number two is Top Gun Maverick. What? It's a football scene!

SPEAKER_00

Okay, Steve, what's your number one, buddy? Yeah, let's just move on. Steve, number one.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, my favorite movie is it's varsity blues.

SPEAKER_00

Great movie.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, that's my favorite movie, a football movie.

SPEAKER_00

I love doing the TV series. Yeah. Um you know what? The TV series was alright too. It was interesting. It was the first two seasons were great after that. It went downhill, but gotcha. Okay, right on. It's either way, great, great number one, great football movie. Brandon, the stuffed trainer. What is your number one, sir?

SPEAKER_04

My number one is We Are Marshall. Very important story, and Matthew McCartney's great in it.

SPEAKER_00

It's that you know the monument and everything, it's still there. I I actually drove through there. I've driven through that area a couple times, and they've got the uh I was on this little two-lane road, and I saw a sign for the actual crash site. You know, they have the big monument at the school, but they also have another memorial where that plane actually went down. It's pretty wild. Like you can see.

SPEAKER_03

I can see that because in the movie they do show a part where there's like a big everybody's bringing the stuff to the crash site. So I wouldn't be surprised if they yeah, they uh it's still the moralized it, yeah, and left the probably even left plane there.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't seen it, but I know that yeah, it's it there. I saw signs for it. So just such a great, great, great movie from such a real true tragedy in in American history. It's yeah, it's absolutely terrible. So all right, great number one, Brandon. Uh Nick number one.

SPEAKER_01

Remember the Titans. Easy. Okay. And the only one that didn't make the anyone else's list that should be an honorable mention, I think, is radio. Real talk.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was a movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, really great, great football movie. Yeah, absolutely. I agree. It's again, it was it was I I thought about it and looked at it.

SPEAKER_01

It's top ten, it's not a top five, but I just thought it should be an honorable mention. I love that movie.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean, again, then there was just there's so many because I mean you there's also any given Sunday, um, draft day, which I know a lot of people don't like draft day, but I it's a good I was a good expression of what the draft is. Blind side, the blind side. I mean, is a great movie. That's what my um when I asked the my girls what their favor, you know, first movie they think of that's the blind side.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, blind side. Um, I had a ton that were right there any given Sunday. Fantastically film filmed movie. Um you know, it was it was just a little out there for me.

SPEAKER_03

Invincible.

SPEAKER_00

Good movie. So that's my number one is Invincible with Mark Wahlberg. And the reason that I put that in as number one is because it's such a true story about the what that did, what that moment did, not not for the guy himself, but what that did for a city in a very difficult time.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

In a difficult era. It it brought the city together as a whole, and that type of story is why it made number one. And it's again, same thing you could say with you know, we are Marshall was in my top 10. Um, obviously, um, remember the Titans was my number two, another true story. Um, invincible to me was it just it wasn't just the unlikelihood of that it will never happen again. No, something like that. Teams can't do that anymore. But what it did back then is it also launched Dick Vermeal's career, right? And it did so much for that city and that town, and it was it, it was the one of the last times that you could look up to a professional athlete as a hero, and that's really what he was. He was a it was because it was an everyday guy who became a football hero and the part in the movie where he recovers that fumble and runs it back actually happened. So they took a true story and didn't Hollywood it really, they didn't do a lot, a lot of that is real.

SPEAKER_05

That's real.

SPEAKER_00

Um, looking at his interviews and everything is just so cool. I actually um got a jersey, a signed Papali jersey in an auction. At it was one of the jerseys I accidentally bought at a Bill's game during those silent auctions. So yeah, I had Invincible at number one. And the funny thing is, is it's not even a movie that uh I it's more the story and what it was that that really got me to pick that as number one. Um, but again, it's like you look back, guys, and it's like like you said, there's so many. It's like um the blind side was in my top ten. Yeah, but I didn't put it in my top five because of what's going on with the family right now. There's so much drama with that right now. It's like he's Michael Orr is suing the two-ys.

SPEAKER_03

And I haven't seen American Underdog, but I've heard that's a good movie.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, really good movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, unfortunately, I haven't watched it yet, but but anyway, folks, let us know what your uh what your top five is. Let us know what we miss. It's football, there's just so many movies. It's so easy to you know judge and say, uh, that's not, that's not, that's not, that's not. So um we'll definitely post this video. Let us know in the comments um what is good and what is bad. So with that, um final thoughts, Steve.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, final thoughts. Let's see here. FIFA's over. The only thing we got left is now Major League Baseball and some WNBA. Um, so I'm looking forward to the football season starting up.

SPEAKER_00

NFL and NHL and all that training camps right around the corner as well. Uh Brandon, final thoughts. Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Getting ready for the end of the summer for me, heading back to work in two weeks.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Oh, gross. Good luck. I still got like six weeks. I'm happy. Nick, final thoughts.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I just wanted to put another statistic in people's ear. Um, with Caitlin Clark's big game of 45 points and 10 assists, that means that Caitlin Clark scored or assisted on 71 points out of their total of 110, meaning that she was directly responsible for 64.5 percent of her entire team's scoring, and she only played for 30 minutes. I just that stat is just amazing to me.

SPEAKER_03

Wow, but yeah, and she's still not in the top 10 for her position.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, everything else statistically, right now, it's like I I and I'm not arguing, but she's really not right now.

SPEAKER_01

No, she's not, she's been cold, and I get it. But to say that whatever, you know what, we've already beat that dead horse. So yep.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, so folks, with that said, uh, thank you for joining us this week. Um, again, don't forget to like, follow, and subscribe on YouTube and TikTok.
