Hey guys, this is Major Henry Hastings, and welcome to the SMC podcast: Restoring Biblical Masculinity by Raising Up Modern Day Minute Men in the natural and spiritual realms. This is where we tackle real issues men face from leadership and purity to history, spiritual warfare, and discerning the times at hand like the sons of Issachar. So you can stand in the gap at a moment's notice. Let's get into it. All right, guys, our scriptural anchor for today comes out of 2 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 4. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God for pulling down strongholds. If you're going to advance the kingdom, it's critical to know how to use the weapons available to you. The weapons that are mighty for pulling down strongholds are not your pistol and carbine. 2 Corinthians 10 4 says, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. Paul is using the natural realm that we are familiar with to explain the spiritual realm. And this is spiritual warfare. Paul said our weapons aren't carnal. They are not of this world or forged on earth by men. They are like the kingdom of God, which Jesus said is not of this world. In other words, the kingdom of God was not made by an earthly decree. It did not originate with men. It does not advance by force like the kingdoms of this world do. And the same goes for these weapons. The spiritual weapons of our warfare are powerful in God for pulling down strongholds. A stronghold here is the Greek word oscuroma. These were rocky forts, small castle-like structures that guarded the coastline of southeastern Mediterranean, Turkey, the modern day country. General Pompey was a Roman general, and he was victorious in defeating the pirate navy of Sicilia who were raiding the Roman trade routes. The Romans pulled down these rocky forts on the coast, and the forts actually protected the enemy and was their base of operations. So this is the concept here that Paul is communicating. A stronghold is a rocky fortress in the spiritual realm that has been built by Satan's task organization. Principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, spiritual hosts of wickedness. I like the NLT translation here for Ephesians 6 12. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. So the weapons are mighty in God for dismantling fortresses the enemy has built. These are fortress in the spirit realm. They consist of teachings of demons that deceive the human race and hold people captive. A fortress can be built inside a person's body that demons occupy and operate from. What are some of these weapons? Well, the first is the authority Jesus gave us over all demons. That authority is a weapon, the power to bind and loose, to decree and declare, prayer, praying in the Spirit, the love of God poured out in our hearts to forgive as God forgives. These things will pull down strongholds that the enemy has built. Your most dangerous weapon in advancing the kingdom is your heart posture with heaven, abiding in Christ, depending upon the Spirit. Father, teach us to fight with spiritual weapons. Let our obedience be our offense and our worship be our warfare. Strengthen our spirit to tear down strongholds. In Jesus' name, amen.
