The Identity of a King’s Man

What does it mean to be loyal in an disloyal world? Loyalty isn't proven in the palace...It's proven here in the wilderness.

Hey guys, this is Major Henry Hastings, and welcome to the SMC podcast: Restoring Biblical Masculinity by Raising Up Modern Day Minutemen in the natural and spiritual realms. So you can stand in the gap at a moment's notice. Let's get into it. All right, guys, our scriptural anchors for today. These are the names of David's mighty men. Joshab Bashabeth, who raised his spear against eight hundred men whom he killed in one encounter. Next to him was Eliasar. He stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life, Jesus said in Revelation two hundred ten. Every king has soldiers, but not every soldier becomes one of the king's men. David had hundreds of warriors, but only a handful were called mighty men. These weren't famous for titles or rank, they were known for loyalty. When others fled, they stood. When others grew weary, they fought until their swords fused to their hands. They didn't fight for glory, they fought for their king. The king's men aren't measured by what they achieve, but by what they'll endure for the one they serve. Loyalty is easy when the crowd is cheering, but loyalty is tested when the battle drags, when you're wounded, or when the king seems silent. David's mighty men stood beside him in caves, not castles. Their loyalty wasn't built on comfort, it was built on covenant. When the king hid in the wilderness, they hid with him. When the king was thirsty, three of them risked their lives to bring him water from behind enemy lines. So loyalty isn't proven in the palace, it's truly proven in the wilderness. Our king is not David, it's the son of David, Jesus Christ the righteous, and like David's men, we're called to stand by him when the world turns away. In an age of betrayal, Jesus is still looking for men who will not desert him when loyalty costs something. Men who will say, My life, my strength, my time all belong to the king. Every trial you face, every temptation you overcome, every act of faithfulness when no one's watching, that's loyalty training. That's how the king's men are formed. At the end of Paul's life, he actually said, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. That's what loyalty until the end looks like. It's not just starting strong, it's finishing faithful. Many men begin the mission, few finish the march, but those who do, those who hold the line until the last breath, are crowned by the king himself. Heaven doesn't celebrate the talented, it crowns the loyal. So, gentlemen, we are the king's men. We serve a commander who never lost a battle and never broke a promise. This is our code. Loyalty in obscurity, faithful under fire, unshakable in allegiance. You've been called, trained, and commissioned. Now serve with endurance, lead with honor, and when others abandon their post, hold the line. Because the king is watching for men whose loyalty doesn't waver when the arrows start flying. The battlefield may change from ancient Israel to modern America, but the code remains the same. Serve the king, guard your brothers, finish your mission, and when the king returns, may he find his men still standing, hands to the plow, swords in hand, heart steadfast, not perfect, but loyal. Because the greatest honor in eternity won't be medals or crowns. It will be hearing the words Well done, good and faithful servant. Guys, serve your king with loyalty until the end. And remember, when the world forgets its oaths, we keep ours. The king's men do not retreat, they serve, they stand, and they stay until the trumpet sounds. In Jesus' name. Amen.
