Hey guys, this is Major Henry Hastings, and welcome to the SMC podcast: Restoring Biblical Masculinity by Raising Up Modern Day Minutemen in the natural and spiritual realms. This is where we tackle real issues men face from leadership and purity to history, spiritual warfare, and discerning the times at hand like the sons of Issachar. So you can stand in the gap at a moment's notice. Let's get into it. All right, guys, our scriptural anchor for today comes out of 2 Samuel chapter 23, verses 20 to 22. Baniah was the son of Jehoida, the son of a valiant man from Kibzil, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day, and he killed an Egyptian, a spectacular man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand, so he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear. These things Beniah, the son of Jehoida, did, and won a name among three mighty men. We're looking at one of David's mighty men, Beniah, the son of Jehoida. It's a short line in Scripture, easy to skip over, the son of Jehoida, but it holds a timeless truth about fathers, sons, and the inheritance of courage. You see, Boniah didn't just appear on the scene as a hero. He came from a line of valor, a father who was described as a valiant man. Before Benia ever faced a lion in the pit, he had already seen what courage looked like, up close and at home. This episode is about that the power of a father's example and the sacred call to raise mighty sons who will carry the torch of faith and courage into the next generation. The text says Beniah, the son of Jehoida, the son of a valiant man. This is not filler here. It's genealogy with a purpose. Before Beniah was mighty in battle, his father had already modeled what it meant to stand strong. Valor doesn't start on the battlefield of life, it starts at home. Every man is teaching his sons, not just with his words, but with his life. When a father stands for truth, when he refuses to compromise, when he serves faithfully, he's sowing courage into his lineage. Jehoida didn't just raise a son, he raised a warrior. Valor is inherited before it's displayed. The scripture says Baniah had done many deeds, killing the aerials or lion like men of Moab, and even a lion in a snowy pit. That kind of courage doesn't come from comfort. It's forged in the fires of example. Sons learn how to fight life's battles by watching how their fathers fight theirs, how we handle fear, temptation, disappointment, and obedience. They learn how to resolve conflict by seeing you resolve conflict with your wife. They learn how to love their wife because you modeled what that looks like. The way we carry ourselves under pressure teaches our sons more than any sermon could. Proverbs chapter twenty verse seven says The righteous man walks in his integrity, his children are blessed after him. Jehoida's integrity produced a son who refused to back down from impossible odds. Mighty sons are forged in their father's shadow. In Hebrew, valor is Chail. It carries the meanings like strength, excellence, virtue, and moral courage. Jehoida's courage wasn't just physical, it was moral. His name means Yahweh knows. And his son's name, Baniah, means Yahweh builds. God knew the Father and built through the Son. That's legacy. When men walk in the fear of the Lord, they hand their sons something the world can't counterfeit. The courage to do right when everyone else bows to wrong. The world needs men of truth who will raise sons with spiritual backbone and grit. And today we're watching a generation of young men adrift, disconnected from identity, fatherhood, and purpose. But God is calling his men to become modern Jehoitas, men who model strength, faith, and consistency. Your sons will fight some of the same battles you fought. Train them to take spiritual ground, teach them to protect the weak, to live honorably, and to walk humbly with their God. That's how we pass on a legacy of valor. Gentlemen, your courage doesn't end with you. It multiplies through those you influence. You are shaping the next Binaya. Every time you lead, every time you pray and persevere when no one else is watching. You may not have physical sons, but you can be a spiritual father to many. Legacy isn't what you leave behind, it's who you send forward. Jehoida trained, Baniah overcame. Let your sons, natural or spiritual, see in you the kind of faith they want to inherit. This week, ask yourself, what kind of courage am I modeling? What kind of inheritance am I building? Who's watching me fight my battles? Let's be the men who pass on strength that endures, men who leave behind not just stories, but sons who stand. The Lord is a warrior, Exodus 15 3 states. Your life is a message. Your sons will quote someday. Make sure it tells the story of a man who walked with God with courage, conviction, and valor. To father the fatherless and to model what courage, conviction, and valor truly mean. So that those sons in our quiver, whether they're sons from our own loins or spiritual sons, or those we've adopted, or stepsons, so that they can be shot out of the quiver into the heart of the enemy and take ground and change the course of history.
