Hey guys, this is Major Henry Hastings, and welcome to the SMC podcast: Restoring Biblical Masculinity by Raising Up Modern Day Minutemen in the natural and spiritual realms. This is where we tackle real issues men face from leadership and purity to history, spiritual warfare, and discerning the times at hand like the sons of Issachar. So you can stand in the gap at a moment's notice. Let's get into it. All right, guys, our scriptural anchor for today is Exodus 34, verses 5 through 7. Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there. That's Moses, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation. Every family, guys, has trends. You can see it in your family line. And some of them didn't start with you. When we look at a biblical generation, we are talking forty years. This is the time it took the Exodus generation to die in the wilderness because they did not take the land God had promised them by faith. Instead, they submitted to fear. So a generation is forty years in the context of generational curses. When God says he will by no means clear the guilty, but visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation, we are looking at a hundred and twenty to a hundred and eighty years of consequences. Then we have the curse of the illegitimate child in Deuteronomy 23, verse two. A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord, even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord. Generations, again, here is four hundred years. This is a curse of rejection because you were excluded from the full participation in the congregation of the Lord. So these curses are for iniquity. And the iniquity or sin can be perpetuated in the family line if the children commit the sin of the fathers. So it starts with someone and can continue 120 to 400 years. This is why some families have predisposition to certain sins. Personally, I did not have to go back that far in my family line. Um, and I asked the Holy Spirit to point out any generational sin I needed to repent for. And you might say, I didn't commit that sin, so it doesn't matter. But Daniel did not commit the sins that his people did that brought them into captivity, but he still confessed them before the Lord, and the Lord heard his prayer and restored his people. Here's Daniel's prayer in Daniel 9, 4 and 5. And I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession and said, O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and mercy with those who love him and with those who keep his commandments. We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from your precepts and your judgments. On another situation in the Bible, there was even a famine in the land during David's reign. And when David tried to figure out why, the Lord told him it was because of breaking an oath 400 years after it was made when Israel entered the land initially. So the oath was actually never to harm the Gibeonites. And 400 years later, Saul actually kills some and their blood cried out. So there was a famine in the land under David's rule. This is wild. David didn't even do anything or commit sin for the famine. He didn't violate the oath, but his land suffered, and that may be why your land is suffering. The question is, what were your ancestors doing? This sin shows up in our family line. It's generational, like addiction, anger, divorce, adultery, sexual immorality, like homosexuality, lesbianism, fear, occult activity. Um, it can start with like Ouija board use, tarot card use, palm reading, psychics, mediums, communicating with the dead. God hates all this with a holy hatred. So I asked the Holy Spirit one day if there was any generational sin I needed to deal with. And a few weeks later, I mean, you're this is crazy. He highlighted the curvature on my mom's back. And he said, she's been carrying a family secret. Bottom line, with some research, my mom was born an illegitimate child. That's a 10-generation curse. She was illegitimate because my grandfather committed adultery with my grandmother, who was a nurse in his hospital. And on top of that, he and my great-grandfather were Freemasons. Now, I'm aware that some believe that when we're saved, all generational sins are or curses are canceled. Galatians 3 13 says Christ redeemed us from the curse by becoming a curse for us. After I was saved, I struggle with sexual purity. Now you can chalk that up to, you know, being a sinner saved by grace. But the Bible doesn't call you a sinner anymore after you've been saved. I struggled with outbursts of anger as well from the time I was a kid. That was rooted in feeling like I wasn't loved. I was rejected. And I think it is vitally important to consider the things you tend to struggle with and ask the Lord to reveal to you any generational sin. You may already know. So generational curses end where generational courage begins. And I encourage you to stand in the gap and be the man that severs the generational curses in your family line. Confess these things is sin. I know you might not have committed some of them, but here's how you do it. Father, reveal to us the iniquities of our forefathers and foremothers, even back to the tenth generation. Show me any reason we might be like David, where our land is cursed, so we can deal with them in Jesus' name. Amen. Now you can look forward to the Lord speaking with you about these things, and then you'll know what actions to take. And just like Daniel, confess them, and if you've participated in them, repent of them. And that is the road to recovery and severing any generational curse on your family line and setting your kids up for success. Thanks for tuning in to the SMC Podcast.
