Your Work Is Your Worship

Men of God do not separate Sunday faith from Monday business. Even before the fall, God had Adam work in the garden. God designed work and hardship to be in partnership with Him in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Let everything you do be from your heart, in the name of the Lord.

Hey guys, this is Major Henry Hastings, and welcome to the SMC podcast: Restoring Biblical Masculinity by Raising Up Modern Day Minute Men in the natural and spiritual realms. This is where we tackle real issues men face from leadership and purity to history, spiritual warfare, and discerning the times at hand, like the sons of Issachar. So you can stand in the gap at a moment's notice. Let's get into it. All right, guys, our scriptural anchor for the day is Colossians 3.23. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord. A real man doesn't separate Sunday faith from Monday business. Everything you touch should testify to who you're really working for. You do things with excellence regardless of how you're being treated from your superior. Work is not part of the curse, it's actually partnership with God. God had Adam work before the fall, as well as after. And when you're saved, I actually think you're restored back to that pre-fall state that Adam was in, except you may have a sin nature unless you've been baptized. Another thing for another episode, which is kind of crazy, but personal excellence is so important to advancing the kingdom and allowing the kingdom to manifest in your workplace. Your workplace becomes a place of influence. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like leaven. Now, what does that mean? Well, leaven, when it comes into contact with something, changes its very properties. So when you actually come into contact with other people, they should be changed because the kingdom of heaven is within you, and you're releasing the kingdom of heaven and the principles to live by within that work space. So the kingdom begins manifesting, and people can taste and see that the Lord is good because of your work ethic. I remember learning this passage in scripture as a new believer. And before I was saved, I was not a good student. Um, you know, I didn't, I believed in God, but I didn't believe in Jesus. But when I saw this passage as a newly born-again believer, I it just dawned on me, no matter what I do, I have to do it. It's under the Lord. And I was going to in college at a time, I had massive issues with math, statistics, accounting, classes with numbers. I actually had to take geometry twice in high school, and I failed algebra twice as well. So I had to take algebra three times to graduate. I just didn't have the ethic. But when I got saved, and here I am taking business stats and accounting for business at a college level, I was like, I have to do my job as under the Lord. I have to be a student as under the Lord. Like, this is my testimony. And so I did every single homework assignment, no matter how long it took. And where I couldn't work problems like with calculus, I would go into my professor's office hours and sit down with him and say, I only got this far and I can't figure it out. He's go, show me your process. I had everything written out. He couldn't believe the attention I was giving to my homework. And this is college. I mean, you're one student in like 150. And he said, Henry, you're the reason why I became a professor. And I was like, What? And I said, You know why I'm doing this? Because of Jesus. It was crazy, guys. So I'm telling you, if you will do whatever you do from your heart in the name of the Lord, it will create impact in your workplace. It will change your superior's view of you and could lead to his salvation and even the blessing of the business that you're in or the business that you're working for. So just remember this it's not about Sunday faith. It's about putting your hands to the plow every day of the week and showing up with the presence of Jesus and living by those kingdom principles day to day. And I pray that this will just make an impact in what you're doing. Don't cut corners. Do things as unto the Lord. It's funny because my wife will tell me, man, I know when you're going to do something, you do it 110% and then some. And I can be accused of being OCD in some areas, but you know what? Sometimes excellence can get a little OCD, and that's okay. But the bottom line is if you're doing your job for the Lord, guys, whatever it is you're doing, whether it's ministry or work, running your business, treating people, um, how you're stewarding the family that God's given you, it's going to make an impact and the kingdom of God will advance on earth.
