Hello there,
Children slip into worlds of imagination with ease—sometimes to escape what hurts, sometimes just to play. Either way, they know how to get there, and they go whenever they choose.
Don’t outgrow this instinct—it’s not childish; it’s design. God wired us with a longing to step beyond the noise of this world and draw near to where He is—The Secret Place.
God has already prepared this secret place for us. It’s not fantasy. It’s not pretend. It’s more real than anything we see around us here on earth. It’s where Our Father dwells—and we’re not just allowed to visit there, we’re invited to dwell there.
The doorway isn’t complicated. It’s faith.
If you’ve ever wondered how one can actually dwell in the secret place of The Most High, this episode will shine a light on this topic that will help you live in the fullness of this passage of scripture.
The main question to ask yourself today: Will I use my faith to believe that I am dwelling in a Heavenly place with God?

Have you ever wished you could escape to a hidden safe haven? Have you ever wanted to return to childhood when you could instantly enter into your own perfect world of make-believe? What if I told you there was a real place you can go to hide away? And it isn't a figment of your imagination. Let's talk about it. Do you remember being a child who enjoyed the fine details of your imaginary world? You knew that that tree was so colorful and it smelled like chocolate. You knew with no doubt that the leaves produced Hershey kisses, foil wrapping not included. Sometimes children go to their place of make-believe as an escape from the hard realities of life. Sometimes they just go there for fun. But regardless of the reason, they know how to get there and they go at will. God our Father has provided a place for us that far exceeds any make-believe. Although believing is required, the place we have access to is more real than this very earth. It's the place where God dwells. We are invited to enjoy this place at all times. To go there, all we have to do is believe. Welcome to the Your God Sister Podcast, where we address life's challenges with biblical answers while enjoying our time together. A couple of constants here are what the Bible says and what the Lord speaks to our hearts by the Holy Spirit. My name is Joy Cooper. I'm an associate pastor, I'm a youth minister, and through the years I've had the opportunity to mentor young ladies. But on this podcast, I'm here with you. A secret place where I can hide? Yes, please. I want one of those. Well, let's look at Psalms 91, 1, and 2 in the Amplified Classic Edition. It says, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, whose power no foe can withstand. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God. On him I lean and rely, and in him I confidently trust. Verse four in the Passion Translation says this. I want for everyone to enjoy this love. He has affectionately thought of everything we would ever need or want. He hides us from all that would try to harm us. What does it actually look like for us to dwell in this secret place? There's only one way to do anything, the Bible instructs. It's by faith. So by faith, we believe we are dwelling in this secret place. Think about it. That's exactly what a child does. Children simply believe they are in their land of make-believe. They can tell you the sizes of things and their color. They can tell you every fine detail of that place that you, the adult, cannot see. We too, by faith, should be able to dwell in our secret place, the secret place of the Most High. There is safety in the secret place from the enemy. The verse says, God is our refuge and fortress. If this isn't a picture of a dad and his child, I don't know what is. Think about playtime with a parent and a child building blanket fortresses. This verse tells us that our safe place is God Himself. And in looking, I was just reading this scripture just now, and one of the phrases that stuck out to me was, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress. My God, on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust. But there's a saying. So we believe, and what you believe ought to come out of your mouth. We ought to be saying, He is our refuge. Father, you're my refuge and my fortress. Think about a child who is talking about their secret place, their place. They're talking about it in fine detail. It's almost like you can't get them to be quiet. They're just talking about it. It's this there and this is happening there. And then I climbed on this and I went through the forest and I came out, and there was a pool. And then you it's so detailed, but they believe what they are saying. I will say of the Lord, I will speak of this secret place. And remember, this secret place where our Father dwells is actually real. The realm of the Spirit is real. It is not make-believe. However, our access route is faith. Just like a child believes he is present in his imaginary world, in the same way, we as children of God should believe we are in the secret place of our Father. The difference from child's play is that we actually are present with the Father through Christ. Jesus even shared that we should be like children in the way we believe. He said it's essential to enter the kingdom of God. Look at Matthew 18, 2 through 4 in the Amplified Classic Edition. And he called a little child to himself and put him in the midst of them and said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent, change, turn about, and become like little children, trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving, you can never enter the kingdom of heaven at all. Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child, trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving, is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is emphasizing the faith of a child. He's telling us to copy how a child believes with no inhibitions. Let's look at another verse, John 15, four through five. Again in the Amplified Classic Edition, it says, Dwell in me and I will dwell in you. Live in me and I will live in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in, being vitally united to the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever lives in me, I and I in him bears much abundant fruit. However, apart from me, cut off from vital union with me, you can do nothing. Again, you may be asking, how do I dwell in Christ? And again, the answer is by faith. How did you get saved? You did it by faith. That's how you entered the kingdom of God. How does anyone get healed? By faith. This life we live in Christ is all by faith. We are who we are, and we have what we have as a result of our awareness of being in Christ. Again, I say to you, and I remind myself, we can put ourselves in the secret place by faith. It's that easy. And it's also necessary. In this verse in John, Jesus is letting us know we must dwell in him to bear fruit. If we aren't found in him, we can't do anything for him. It takes his power to be witnesses for him and the earth. If we are not dwelling in him, we can't get the job done. So we talked about in Psalms the secret place, dwelling in this secret place. For us, that secret place is in Christ, in Jesus. That verse told us that we live in Him and He lives in us. This is, I mean, it's just the perfect picture of how children go to their special place, go to their secret place, go to their happy place. Jesus is my happy place. He's the place that's full of joy. He's the place that's put full of provision. He's the place that is full of health, sound mind. That's my Jesus. That's my place. Jesus is my place. Oh, this is so, so, so good. Oh, I'm so grateful. So I love this last scripture. It's Colossians 2 and verse 6. In the New International Version, it says, So then, just as you receive Jesus Christ as Lord, continue to live your lives in him. So think about that. We receive Jesus as Lord, but then we're to continue in him. We are to let him be our secret place. And so often people receive Jesus and then they just move on from him. They've got their ticket to heaven, they're satisfied with that, but they don't realize that he is their secret place. Jesus is our hiding place. Jesus is the place to where we are supposed to live. We're supposed to live out of our union with him. And that's why so many people are weak, so many people are down, so many people are destitute because they're not in him. He gives us life, he gives us everything we need, he gives us vitality. Oh, this is just so good to talk about, to think about, to rehearse. These things that I share with you, uh, many of them thus far have been fundamental. However, we are always to be rehearsing these things because God will always give us new revelations on the fundamentals. He will always show us more of himself, he will allow us to understand more clearly so then we can go share with someone else. But it all springs out of this life union in Christ. So again, I want to read this again. Uh Colossians 2, 6. So then, just as you receive Jesus, as you've received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue, continue to live your lives in Him. Don't stop, don't stop there. Get in the secret place of Christ. For us as New Testament believers, Jesus is our secret place. He's in the Father, and we're in Him. We are in the secret place. And if you are still asking, how I am still answering by faith. This world, culture, society all beats believing out of us. Think about it. As a child grows up, they are taught to stop imagining, stop believing. Yes, a child should most definitely mature and develop. There is a difference, though, between being child-ish and being child-like. Jesus instructed us to believe and trust God like a child. He did not encourage immaturity. You may be desiring, give me a practical way to achieve this. Tell me, like, what are you talking about? Like, literally, how do I how do I do this? Well, here it is. Take Psalm 91, 1 and 2, and decide, I believe that. And this is is it's so interesting because I'm actually speaking from a place that I have been living lately. I have been um intentionally living this out. Okay, so I'm sharing from lived experience. I have said, Father, I am in the secret place. I've just started right there. I've just acknowledged it because remember the scripture said, I will say of the Lord, I will say something. Father, I am in the secret place. I'm with you right now. And then just like a kid would do, I go, Oh, Father, it's beautiful here. Oh, Father, I'm provided for fully here. I have no financial worries. I have no, there's no sickness in my body. My mind is clear, my mind is sound. And I just start talking about it like I'm looking at it. Oh, Father, everywhere I turn, I see you. Oh God, oh, you're so good. This place is just so wonderful. Oh, I'm so thankful. I'm here, I'm seated in heavenly places in Jesus. Oh, this is amazing. This is amazing. And you might be sitting there like, girl, you done lost it. You done flown the coop. Really? Because it looks to me like I'm doing what the Bible says to do, which is to keep my belief intact. Again, the only reason why one would say that is because belief has been beaten out of them, has been destroyed out of them, really through through the devil's work. So this is how, this is how, like I said, this is how I'm living. You do what you want to do, but I'm telling you, this is working because it's the word, it's God's word, and God's word is true. Remember, we highly regard God's word here. If we're gonna choose between, oh, that's weird, and well, this is actually what the Bible says, we're going with the Bible. So I'll say things like, I see full provision. I'm here with you. I don't have to be offended. Oh, I'm so grateful. I'm here just enjoying your protection. Oh, this secret place is just magnificent, Father. Oh, I'm so grateful. Thank you for letting me be here. The more you do that, the more real the secret place becomes. But unlike a child's land of make-believe, again, I want to say this: the secret place where God dwells is real. He has invited us to join him there. Same point in verse 6 of Colossians 2. We must continue to live our lives in Christ. Don't just leave Jesus at your salvation experience. Take him with you by living in him. I can say, Jesus, I'm in you. You are my hiding place. In you, I am inaccessible. I I can't even be accessed. The devil can do me no harm in you. In you, I enjoy perfect peace. These are the things that we have to say. There's so many scriptures that speak about us saying something. You I heard a minister say, you can't like win, like and receive the things that are provided with your mouth closed. And for one basic reason is because the Bible says over and over that we're to say something. The Bible says, let the redeemed of the Lord say so. The Bible says, uh, like we saw in Psalms, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge. Over and over, we are to speak out what we believe. I can say, Father, I'm so grateful. In this secret place, I have extreme joy. In you is all the beauty of heaven. I enjoy all of it right now. I'm in this secret place. It's just, it's just phenomenal. And again, God wants us to do this because He wants this place. You know, it's so funny because we think we can see the natural realm. I could see my computer in front of me. I could see my microphone in front of me. I can see my phone. I can see my notepad. I can see pins on the desk. Okay, yeah, that's real. But the spirit realm is more real. But we've been made to think because we don't see this the spirit realm that it's not as real as what we can actually see. Not true. So that is why it's so important that we wake ourselves up to the fact that we have a secret place. We have a hideaway in Christ, and it's real, it is more real than anything else that we encounter. Jesus is real, our father is real, and this secret place that we've been invited to enjoy is real. So I encourage you today, go to the secret place. Our father is waiting on you. Pause and think on these things until next time. God wants us to believe everything He said. He wants us to have faith that we can have everything He has provided. We must believe in order to enjoy the blessings. I hope you are encouraged to dwell in the secret place. Practice going there, being there, seeing it, speaking of it. It's the best place to be. We'll talk soon, but until next time, know what the Bible says and treasure what the Lord speaks to your heart.
