Hi everyone, welcome back to Fluent Monico, the series that takes you from absolute beginner to fluent in Cantonese. This is lesson 14. Today I would like to introduce you to an aspect marker that tells us an action has happened when a verb is followed by jows that an action has happened. One important note an action that has happened does not mean it is finished. We will learn how to say finish in a future lesson. Let's look at an example. No yum jo n I drank milk tea. Let's break it down. No means I Yum means to drink. Cho shows that the action happened. Nice means milk tea. Repeat after me.
SPEAKER_01No yum ja nice. Let's turn this into a question. How do you say what did you drink? It should be Ne Yam J.
SPEAKER_00Remember, the sentence structure does not change.
SPEAKER_01Repeat after me Ne yum jo me What did you drink? Let's try another example.
SPEAKER_00No ti jo din yeng I watch a movie. Let's break it down. No means I Tai means to watch. Ding means movie. Repeat after me.
SPEAKER_01No Tai jo din yang I watch a movie. Let's turn this into a question. How do you say what did you do? It should be Ne Jo Ja Meh. Repeat after me Ne jo ja me Let's do a recap.
SPEAKER_00When a verb is followed by jo shows that an action has happened. Just a reminder an action that has happened does not mean it has finished. Repeat after me Ne Yam J Me What did you drink?
SPEAKER_01No Yam J I drank milk tea. Ne Jo J Me What did you do? No Tai Jing Yang I watch a movie.
SPEAKER_00That's a wrap for lesson fourteen of Full Minute Co. I've prepared a printable worksheet that includes everything from this lesson plus extra exercises to help you review and test yourself. You can find it in the description. Thanks for tuning in and I'll see you next time. Bye bye!
