Originally from Maryville, Indiana, I have been living in Atlanta for 15 years. Uh so yeah. So where are we eating? What we eating and and where? In both. Oh. Well, if you're up from that area where I'm from, raise shrimp would be a place to scrimps. You know, some shrimps. Yeah. Down here, I mean, it's Atlanta. There's so many places to eat. So many places.

I'll be my 13th year March 1st. Come on for top out. Come on, top out. Having a top-out party. Oh god God brought me through it. Yes. So I can see through it, baby. It's been amazing. And we are happy to be here. We're happy to bring Jumpsheet Chronicles to everyone. Um, we came together months ago through Josh, and he said he had a great idea to bring up a podcast together where we can talk about the experiences and the life of flight attendants, what we go through, and just different um elements and ways to not only entertain you all, but help you all to see what we deal with on a daily basis and our experiences, and also how to also be in this field of work if that's something that you desire. Also, we'll talk about traveling and um just different stories and experiences that we've had and take y'all on a ride.

Yeah, yeah, it's definitely to encourage those that want to get in the industry. Uh, because we all oftentimes get how'd you become a flight attendant or put me on or something like that? Well, hey, this is your space to tune in and get some insight. Also, raw, real insight, real insight, and this might aid in your endeavor of trying to become a flight attendant or deter you because being a flight attendant is not for everybody, it is not people see the benefits and they like listen the benefit of it's it's being a flight attendant is just travel, but that's a benefit, but it's not the whole reason why we do what we do, absolutely, and so it's a lifestyle, it's a yes, it is, and every lifestyle is not meant for everyone, correct?

Hey. Yes, God. Yes, Juicy Peach. Um, we are excited for mainly because we this is our first one. So we are going to go through a lot of different topics throughout this ride with everyone. And um, we feel it's best to start off with things that are that people love to talk about when it comes to us is flight attendants and something that is usually always in somebody's mouth or somebody on social media through everything else. We want to discuss certain things that people love to say and talk about and just get everyone get our opinions on how we feel about everything. And one of the people, one of the main uh topics that we are faced with a lot in this industry is the whole flight attendants are hoes, flight attendants are whores, flight attendants are this and that.

You know, every time you meet somebody, you tell them what you do for a living. It's like, oh, y'all whores. It's like, oh, here we go again. Probably heard it over a hundred times in my life. Yeah. And how does that affect you all personally when you hear the responses and the feedback? That's not so nice.

So before we go there, to give some history or a little knowledge to why people's perception of us is that. Um during the 1970s, airlines come on for campaigns that um would basically say, Come fly with me in a very seductive and alluring way. And let's speak truth to the situation. Back then, most mostly men flew. It was business travel and business leisure for men. And so airlines marketed themselves in such a way from women wearing uniforms, and and they used to have strict guidelines and policies where um women had to uh be a certain weight, women could not be married, could not be pregnant. Like it was it was a whole thing during that time, and it wasn't until uh and excuse me, I stand corrected, that was during the 1960s marketing, but it wasn't until the 1970s and 80s flight attendants came together and sued for civil rights so they could transition from being stewardess, because you'll hear every now and then us being referred as stewardess, that's where that came from during that time, um, to being flight attendants. And flight attendants, we're flight professionals, we're different from a hostess because that's what they were being presented as somebody that's gonna host you during your flight. And so um, in reality, people who still use those tropes are essentially quoting 50-year-old advertisement that has not been relevant since the invention of the internet. Jesus.

Because yeah, but it's crazy how even in our generation, and most we're all fairly close in age, still goes off of that. We in our dating experience, yeah, we're still dealing with that. Absolutely. We're still when we, you know, do go and meet somebody and they find out we're flight attendants, oh, you know, it's that, oh, or that shop, and where's your boyfriend in what state?

Yeah. Do y'all oftentimes feel though that when people say that, that it may come from a subconscious level of a little bit of jealousy?

There's jealousy, and then there's envy, there's ignorance, there's lack of understanding, and then there's a little bit of taboo-ness with it as well, because they want to test the system and to see what it's like to be with a flight attendant. Don't know where that came from, where there's a bit of mystery about our profession and what comes with that. It's that mile-high mystery, as we like to call it. And we're just like any other profession or professional. Um, although our office happens to be in the sky, it's still a profession and a profession that deserves the same respect that you would give any other first responder. Because, as a lot of people don't understand, we are still first responders, but we're first responders in the sky.

So, um, with our profession, a lot of people don't understand that we're safety professionals trained in customer service.

Absolutely. Let's be very, let's be very clear. Safety professionals first. Let's be very clear.

Absolutely. And service just happens to be what we do.

But we are safety professionals first. Service is just a perk of the job. As our flight benefits, a very good benefit, may I add. I love somebody. Yeah, it is a benefit. So, with that, um, and the aspect of dating, I think it's that that sort of taboo-ness, like I said, it's it's exotic, it's different. I haven't done it, I haven't experienced it. So let me go experience that flight attendant. And let's be real, y'all. We got some that's out there giving us a name.

Speak to it because just as much as it's laying a low spray in the water for most of us. There's some truths. There's definitely some truth. There are some truths. I don't want anybody to think we are dismissing that because there are never. That would be real stories. That would be very delusional.

Absolutely. Especially because, like, when in all honesty, and the reason I asked about the whole thing with being just because you hear y'all fly everywhere and y'all got people in different in different states. Let me ask you, I'd be going to ask, like, if you had the opportunity to fry freely the way we do and go and come as you do and go all around the country in the world, you would probably try to do some of the things, same things that you may accuse us of because you would have that freedom to do so. You can't speak from that place because you don't have that freedom. So you speak from a place of not knowing, like you said, with ignorance, but it's like anybody who has the freedom to travel is going to have different experiences when they travel. Yes. It does not automatically mean that those experiences are sexual, that they're meaning that we're doing things and we're waiting to go to those other places to be um um what's the word? Um salacious, yes, and um I forgot the word, but promiscuous. Thank you, friend. And it's just like when my I tell my friends, you all when you all go on vacation, that's your time to let go and let go have fun and do your thing. Right. It's the same for us, except we do this so much that it's like breathing, it's normal for us. So when we go out to these overnights, that's not the first thing that we're thinking about, is because we've been doing this, it's a part of our daily life.

But to your point, and what you just said, when you go on vacation, a lot of people look at us and think because we're traveling, we're going on vacation. And we are not on vacation. We're working and then on top of that, we're not on vacation. Right. People do not know that majority of the time we are in places for maybe 10, 12, 14 hours, 14 hours.

13 to 24 hours on average. And on the back end, and on the back end of that, we've worked just about as long as we were for that overnight. Yes, and so no one is trying to go hang out on the beach for eight hours of that 12 hours that we have to sleep.

So let alone lay up in the bed with a stranger because they got time for it.

So, Hector, into that, we have to change. Yes, we have to eat, we have to shop, we have to work out, we have to rest.

Talk to family friends at home that are blowing us up because we don't want to.

We have to do all those things. So, if you want to know what it's like to be a flight attendant, try this. Turn your phone off for 13 hours. Don't put it in airplane mode, don't put it in silent, turn it completely off for 14 hours. Go do life. Don't tell anybody in your family that you're doing life. Come back to your phone and see if your life looks like on the other side of turning your phone off for 14 hours and be completely inaccessible to anybody else in your family and see if your life hasn't exploded and then come back.

And tell everybody, oh, I'm so sorry. I was out being a flight attendant for the day to see how life was. Did did everything, you know, run smoothly? Did the dog get fed? Did the kids get food? Hubby, did you find your socks? Wife, did you find your clothes?

That's that, but all of those things.

That's another piece. Did the did the appointments get made? You know, all of those things. What happened while I was away for those 14 hours? You know, I think there's a misconception that we have all this free time when we're in the air. No, we're moving constantly, and we also have to take care of our mental as well as our physical well-being while we're out flying. So, you know, I know we're getting off of the topic a bit, but we are still staying on topic. But all of that comes into play when you're thinking about, oh, how can I date a flight attendant? Right. You know, all of these things come into play because we're balancing not just our own mental health. Now you now you're responsible for somebody else's mental health as well. And they're trying to blow up your phone, trying to figure out why you're not talking to me. Well, dear, I've been on a plane all day. Now you want me to pour my all into you when I've been dealing with however many passengers and their needs all day, and I have to give all to you. And you think I'm thinking about somebody else out there when I've just dealt with all of these people? No.

And then that plays into back to the myth that okay, you ain't answered my call or asked my text. You must be out there doing something. No, can I be asleep? No, I'm a moment to myself. Because just like I was mentioning earlier, our short overnights, half the time we're even sitting waiting to get to the hotel. That's a process. We're waiting for the last passenger to get off the plane. We can get so we can get to the shuttle and get to the hotel because sometimes our drives be like 15, 20, 30, 30 minutes. 30 minutes to get to a hotel. To get to a hotel. It's it's not in that capacity. However, there are some. I'm not excusing it. There are some that find time to prioritize that. And even with prioritizing that, that doesn't necessarily make them a well, maybe it makes them a whole, maybe it doesn't. However, if they like what they like and they're not attached to anybody, that's what they're doing. And that's my thing.

But it's no, it's no different from a person in their city going around scouring for the next sexual. Like, let's be real. It's no different except we have more cities and places to do it.

Absolutely. And then as reports have been coming out even lately when it comes to nurses and doctors and the hospital and because firemen, the other professions exhibit. It just boils down to not just last year and that executive and the system of some kind of the book. Some type of game or concert.

So it's called it's I I want people to, if anything, if y'all hear anything tonight, please, please, please get away from when you meet a flight attendant. Let them be the first thing. Let me be the first thing that come to your mind or go to that place. Because one, if they're single, you don't know what they might have came out. Because majority of us, majority of flight attendants, that at least the ones I know are in long-term situations of flight attendants that have full families, like mothers out there, married with children, like balancing trips to get to football games on, you know, working during the week so they can be and spend weekends with their families. They are they are out here retired. They came from other professions. And now this is their after retirement career or whatever. You know, so it's not the case. I know it looks alluring, but I'm sorry, when I'm in Indianapolis, I am not trying to do somebody rocking, knocking on the city. Exactly. I'm just, I'm, I'm not. Now, granted, when my younger years, I was single. Yeah, sure. Have at it if it presented itself. But I also wasn't just like, okay, you my boyfriend in this city, you my you my little side piece over in this city. Like exactly.

Who got time to keep up with all that? And still rest to get back on a plane and do the same thing the next day. It just boils down to understanding that we all live different lives. We all have different um ideas of what we need to do when we get on our. For me, one of the main things that I love my overnights for is because that's my time to escape reality and have time to rest and block out the world. When I'm home, I feel like I'm always accessible to my friends, my family, everyone. When I'm away, that's my time to do Daring. If I don't answer the phone, it's because daring, I could have been in there. I might have been in the air. But I'm gonna tell you that because that was my time for me, because I don't get that often. And for others, that's time to explore. It's time to do their homework, it's time to get away from their children and have time to actually sleep because they don't get to sleep when they're at home. So I tell people if you're if you're out and you meet someone that's a flight attendant, instead of going to the first thing you're saying is, oh, y'all are whores, ask them about their job, ask them about their life, ask them about their reality and truly get to know them and why they love what they do before you let that up. Because let me tell you something. If you want to holler at a flight attendant or you you you do have the desire to speak to speak to someone that you find outside that's attractive, don't let that be the first thing out of your mouth because it's a huge turn off.

When I hear that, it's a huge turn off because it's like if that's the first thing you're thinking about, and when you're addressing me, that means you're already having pre-judgment. Yeah, which I says a lot about you and your characters as individuals. So, baby, I'm good. It's a no for me. That part, you know what I mean? So do better, do better, do better.

Absolutely. So, anybody want to know the reality of our job? The real reality of our job. We are working 10 to 16 hours in a day, and that does not account for the travel to the airport or commuting, possibly to your city.

And that's a whole nother ball game. Commuting. Commuting, yeah, which this one knows a lot about.

So we are serving meals, we're serving snacks, we're serving beverages, we're serving alcohol, we're mixing alcohol. What? We serve alcohol, absolutely, bartenders, security guard, hearse therapists, the baby with us. And it's not just service that we're handling, we have specialized training, including life-sustaining measures while we're in the air. That does not necessarily mean that we are playing Dr. House in the air. That does mean that if you are having a heart attack, if you are potentially having a seizure, if you are potentially having a stroke, we do have some measures in training that we can help sustain you until we reach the ground.

Love you, Samsung. So the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2024 said our median pay for flight attendants is $67,130. For education, you only need a high school diploma or an equivalent of a high school diploma. You need about five years or so of related experience on the job. Training is about moderate. So those that are 18, turning 18, looking at turning 18, 19, 2021, that might be a good career change for you.

And as far as weeks for training, just about eight, every carrier has their own brand of training. Once you are given a CJO or a conditional job offer, they do their own training depending on the carrier. Training roughly is paid, but only once only after you complete training. And depending on a carrier, training can be four to eight weeks. Most carriers do have required exams that you will have to pass depending on the carrier. Not all, depending on a carrier, again. And uniforms, luggage, all the fun things you see in the videos. It may look fun, but training is hard. It is intense.

And with all of that being said, do you think we got time to be whole? Like, I'm just, she just gave you so much statistics and job history and background, and I'm just saying, again, there are people that do. If that's in your nature, but that's just individuals.

But the reason why we go through all of this rigorous training, time away from home, time away from family during the holidays, is because we love what we do and we love to travel and see the world and get paid to do it.

So to frame a question on this topic when it comes to boundaries, when you have gotten to know somebody when they're dating, you know, out there and you have literally said, Hey, um Josh, I'm JJ, whatever. And I'm a flight attendant. I live in Atlanta, you know. I drive uh what and then they're like, oh, you're a flight attendant? Like, how what is your boundaries when it comes to that? How do you manage?

So it depends on the reaction for me. Um, if you come with questions and you're trying to understand, like, so by you being a flight attendant, does that mean I would never see you? Does that mean I'm willing to talk have a conversation to explain? Like, hey, just because I'm flight doesn't mean I'm going all the time. I have flexibility, I have tenure in the company, I've been there a while, so I'm able to make my schedule the way I want it. A lot of people don't realize that as flight centers, we have amazing flexibility. Yes. And when we want to be off, we can be off. When we we want to take a month off, we can. We want to work six days straight and be off for two weeks, we can do that. That's only because he's a senior daddy, too. No, but that's not true. Because even junior people can't, they just be on reserve. But you gotta be your time. You gotta do your time.

Keep in mind when you are brand new, you are working weekends, you are working holidays, you're gonna miss your best friend birthday, you're gonna miss your eyes. You're missing a lot of you are missing a lot of events. Keep in mind to those that are interested in this career, you are probably going to miss a lot of things, especially in the first two years. Your family's going to miss you, your children are gonna miss you, your spouse is gonna have to find the kid's socks without you. He's gonna have to make those appointments without you. And dads, you're gonna miss those soccer games. Dads, you're gonna miss those football games. You have to discover if you can have a good support system at the house.

Which is so important.

Because you take your entire family on this career with you. It's not just a job, it's a career. You have to take your whole family with you on this career with you. A lifestyle. So you don't have to right. If you don't have your family with you on this journey, this might not be the job for you. And they have to be willing to, I don't want to say sacrifice, but they have to be willing to accept this role with you.

It is a sacrifice though, because they have to sacrifice the fact that they're not gonna see their mate or their mom or dad on the one of their biggest days when it's a birthday or a holiday, and be okay with it. Yeah. So to take sacrifices on all parts, you know what I mean? Because if I'm used to seeing mom or dad on Christmas and now mom and dad is out flying, making sure someone else gets to where they need to be for Christmas, I gotta stomach that.

We're still gonna get the gifts. That's another factual point of just as much as when you're dating somebody or when a flight attendant is in the dating realm, just as much as you might be sizing me up, I'm sizing you up. Absolutely, because what do you do when I'm gone? If you get upset that I didn't text you, baby, this ain't gonna work.

Absolutely. And even with that, if I was to meet somebody and the first thing out of their mom off is, oh, you're a flight attendant, can you handle, you know, dating someone? Or if you're how are you looking for something serious if you're always gone? You then you've already made a conceived happens all the time. You haven't asked me, you've assumed that not knowing I'll be off 14 days for as much time as I need. You've made that assumption based on one or two conversations. You haven't asked me you've made that decision for me. Made it. So I'm gonna make a decision for you. Hello, this isn't gonna go any further. From this category to the trash can, and I'm gonna move on to someone else who doesn't make decisions for me. And they say it communicates like a grown personal questions, absolutely, because you could ask me, and if I've already communicated that to you, you've already made that assumption that I'm not gonna be available. Yeah. And I can make myself as available as I want to.

If you say if I tell you, that would be the same as me getting upset with you by saying you're only available on Saturday and Sundays. Well, guess what? I can't date anyone is who's Quebec. This only available on Saturday and Sunday because on Wednesday, I like to fly to New York and have New York style pizza. Are you never available on Wednesday? Well, this isn't gonna work. This isn't gonna work because I like to go to New York and fly to New York and have New York style pizza. Is that a judgment? Yeah, that's a judgment just like you judge me for being a flight attendant. So now I need to get somebody that's off on Wednesday who can have New York style pizza with me. Hello, somebody. So if we're gonna, you know, if we're gonna do tit for tat, then we can do tit for tat. And my tit for tat can be way more petty than yours. Absolutely.

And you know what I've realized? Um, and you can ask any of my exes. I don't like, I ain't got that many, but they have all for the most part said out of everyone I've dated, dating the flight in it was not as bad as I thought it would be their most fun relation because we have so much, as many people think that we don't have time, we have a lot of time to give because we can make our schedules the way we want. Yes, if we if especially if it's long distance, because I've done long distance, and if I want to go and you live in LA, I'm gonna be with you for five days in LA. And then when I'm when I'm done with that, I can go to work out of LA and then go home. I make time, I'm able to travel. We can go different places, we can see the world together because of the benefits that we have. So for me, I feel like you might be missing out on your blessing. Not trying to day to fly because we can not only can expose you to a lot of things, show you the world, be there for you when you need, because we have the flexibility to do so. We're also more open-minded because we travel the world, we see so many different things, so many different cultures, so many different people that we understand things from a different scope and a different lens. And I feel like one of the best people you probably could date is a flight attendant. There's so many more pros than cons. Oh, and French. Let's be real.

Trade trip BJ A, like, or get the holiday off to be with the holiday pay or whatever.

Like vacation, vacation, trying to move a vacation, trying to do something for a vacation, trying to text a friend about their vacation, trying to. There's always motion. And since we have become such a, and this is across the industry, we become such a mobile work group. Absolutely. We were always a mobile work group, but now we've become a phone mobile work group. That's how we navigate aviation now. It's become such a technology heavy environment that that is where we spend 99% of our time on our devices. And it's where we do our work.
