SPEAKER_05

We're here.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. It's saying live. Hello, everybody. What's going on? Hi. Everybody out there in the internet world. How's it going, y'all? There we go, seven. Okay, I'm seeing seven people logged in. I know I'm getting all types of crazy text messages right now. Like y'all are late. I know this flight is delayed right now. This is our first time doing this, and we appreciate y'all bearing with us for sure. Um, I'm I'm about to check the socials to make sure it's actually showing on there that we are live.

SPEAKER_05

And come on in, sit down and join us. Come on in.

SPEAKER_04

Uh okay. Some okay, I just got a text, you're live. So this is great. We like that. Um, I don't know uh what platform are you streaming on?

SPEAKER_05

Okay, I got more textes saying we're live and we're on.

SPEAKER_04

Um Darien, can you see a part on there that we can see comments? Oh, right there in the corner under the comments. Yeah. There we go. Okay, I see. Hey. Oh, wow. Yes, okay. Now we're both we're getting this. We're getting it. We're in there, we in there. And I'm further back, and I don't have man glasses on.

SPEAKER_02

So I can't see. It's gonna be hard. I thought I said we're gonna have to, I'm gonna have to. Ooh.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I can have to put man on because I know I can't see.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. Jesus. Okay, yeah, we're gonna use my good eye. This is good vision. We're gonna put it to work today.

SPEAKER_05

Hey y'all.

SPEAKER_02

Jesus. Somebody said put a question in there so we can see what it looks like. I see you on my YouTube. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, on YouTube. First and foremost, to all our flight attendants out there.

SPEAKER_05

Happy international flight attendant day.

SPEAKER_04

That is why we are here. That's why we wanted to do this live. And again, this is our first live. And with going live, you know, you're gonna have hiccups, and we did not, you know, plan ahead for we planned ahead, excuse me. We did not run a test on this, and you know, we got new platforms that we're running on. So all of this is new. We do want everyone to be aware that up, Doug. Hey! We want everyone to be aware that this is also being being recorded. So this is going to be heard even later. It was going to be released on uh June 5th. So um, if you do come live with us today, we do uh want you to be aware that your voice will probably be heard on our episode, and hopefully you're comfortable with that. Um Erica. Erica, that's my girl. I'm shouting you out, Erica. It wasn't showing live on IG. It's not showing live on IG, so I might have to do that separately.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, IG. Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

Because I definitely need my IG account to I could actually do that because ain't nobody on TikTok. Nobody's on TikTok. No, so I think I think I'll gotta hang it up. Yes, okay. So we're gonna do that first. Out of this. So, first off, we've already said it. Uh, but now that we have people that we can see commenting and everything, um, as you know, I'm Josh, sometimes JJ. Uh, but yes.

SPEAKER_01

I am Michelle. Good afternoon. Happy International Flight Attendant Day. Thank you so much for being here. We look forward to answering your questions on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. And our wonderful, delightful co-host.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Hey y'all. What up, what up, what up? I'm Darien. Darien living in. I'm from L Houston. And I'm here to we're here to have a good time with y'all. Definitely. Thank y'all for tuning in. We really, really appreciate it while we get all this figured out. We really appreciate y'all's patience and thank y'all for coming to sit down with us.

SPEAKER_04

All right. So while you're getting logged in, um, we do want to get a quick update. As many of you all know, we uh had the opportunity to be interviewed twice in one week, and we thank the Lord above us. Ain't God good? Oh my God, he's so good. Uh, we got interviewed by uh the Washington Post and Inside Edition. Most of you all know this, but we got that opportunity. We're thankful for live on IG now, sorry. Yay! We're live on IG. Oh, kind of pivot uh pivoted that way so they can see us. No, no, like so they can see us in the camera. They just see you, see you. I see I know what you want to be. I gotta be able to see the quick that was the word. Oh no, yeah, that because they only don't see one. Exactly. So that's fine. Um, but we got interviewed that way. Um, it was great, it was a great experience. Yes, um uh great opportunity. I will say that uh in our TV appearance, they definitely chopped our interviews. That interview was a lot longer, as most interviews um are unless it's live like this. Um, because we one of the things that I wanted to highlight specifically when it came to the poking and the touching, when it uh comes to us being flight attendants, our thing is if it's if it's something that happens by accident or you know, respect, you know, we're not going off on people. Oh, my dad said, hey y'all, hey dad, or hey Josh, that's what it says. I see you, dad. We see the concept. Thank you so much.

SPEAKER_05

Hey it, hey daddy.

SPEAKER_04

Um, but we're not out there just being disrespectful and getting an attitude and rolling our eyes. However, we wanted to highlight because it happens so often, and for many of us, you know, it's a trigger point. Like, or or it's uncomfortable. And knowing, I think because we all know the call light is there, you are able to hit it and get our attention. We already are trained to know the sound. So when we get like poked and touched and all of that, it's uncomfortable because most everybody in their everyday job does not go to work thinking that somebody is just going to poke and touch them. Even though, like I heard and saw comments about nurses and and you know, doctors and other teachers and people from other professions that it happens to, and we're not dismissing any of that. What we're trying to say is the world will be a better place if not only you you stay at a certain folks' business, you also keep your hands to yourself. Like that's a thing.

SPEAKER_02

Respect people's place, space, you know what I mean? Like we don't come to your job trying to poke on you to get your attention. Correct. Like it's as simple as that. Do one to others or you want done to yourself. You know what I mean? And I just feel like the average person understands that. Yes. The ones that don't want to understand, they just don't want to, and that's okay. I agree. You know what I mean? I agree. We have some, we have people asking how do they join? Um, I don't on Instagram, I believe if you press the button where there's like the two the two heads at the bottom, that is how you will be able to join in or request to be to join in. But uh, we want to kick this off because we only got a short period of time and we wanted to interact with as many of you as possible. Yes. So feel free to ask questions and on any uh of the sites that you're streaming from so we can talk to y'all and just give y'all some information.

SPEAKER_04

What's going on? And if you want to be on like vocally, I do not know how that's gonna happen on YouTube. So if you are on our Instagram page, log on and you'll see Darien's face, and you'll be able to talk to us that way, that way you can be heard because we also want to hear you. We don't want to sit up here and be just talking to the empty space out there. Hey, Aunt Rhonda, I see you. Hey, thank you. Okay, I all my text work. Uh, but before we even still request, but before we go there, I do want to lay some ground rules for everybody. Everybody, even those that are not family and friends that just, you know, saw the the interviews and wanted to be interested. Anybody out in the universe, if you want to come up and speak to us, we want you to make sure that you are being respectful. Please be quick because we do want to get several folks in. And uh for our flight attendant family, do not call out your airline. Just tell us how long you've been flying. We don't want any, you know, pushback late on anything for you or for us. So please keep that part to yourself. Um, and we'll go from there. Uh have you got any requests yet?

SPEAKER_05

No, not yet. Let me see. How uh IG.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, I don't want to do that. No. Glenn had reached out and just asked, how does he join? But he stepped the text message.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay. Okay. Uh, because I messaged him earlier.

SPEAKER_02

Um, Rhonda says, I want to be a flight attendant when I retire. I can see. That's my and I don't know if it was a question behind it or something.

SPEAKER_04

No, no, no. I mean, we can answer it. And for anybody that wants to be a flight attendant, um, make sure you're applying to the airlines. There's no secret recipe that we can say that will make you become a flight attendant when they're hiring. Make sure you apply. And I will say, uh, for my experience, um, I applied to one airline years ago before I worked at my current airline, that particular airline that I first applied to, um, they take in a lot of applicants. And what I hear from a lot of people, they had to apply a few, you know, a few times before they even got accepted because they get so many applicants, they got to treat it almost like American Idol. Absolutely where they they they will say they're looking for something specific. And if you're not what they're looking for is specific on that day, it is what it is. It is what it is. You just gotta reapply until you just fall into that. So I say that to say if you have hopes to be a flight attendant, don't be discouraged by the first no or the first, you know, sorry, you didn't make the cut this time.

SPEAKER_02

This is truly a part of the process, just like with any job, you know, with any position that you're going for, you're not always gonna hear yes the first time. And some people this, you know, but with the airline industry, they're looking for a particular thing. And every airline is looking for different things. So you just have to really research the company you're trying to go to, find out what their values are, find out what they are looking for, speak to some air flight attendants from that airline to say, hey, what is it that this company is looking for? What do they want to see from me when I uh bring myself to them? And how do I sell myself to fit the mold of what they are looking for? You know what I mean? And I I promise you, I know plenty of people who've been told no, no, no. But at some point you will hear yes, especially if you're putting yourself out there the correct way. That resume is where it needs to be, and your interview skills are what they need to be. So just keep going. I agree.

SPEAKER_04

Just keep going and don't let it be discouraged. Um, any other questions we got out there? I see all the haze.

SPEAKER_03

What's the thing now? What's that? I don't, I don't.

SPEAKER_01

Rhonda, what thing?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Auntie, come on now. You gotta be able to give me more specifics. I need to know what you're talking about.

SPEAKER_02

Roblack, Serenity, BJ, Floyd. Thank y'all for joining.

SPEAKER_04

And I thank y'all for joining. I and believe me, those that are putting hearts and thumbs up, we need that. Yes. Look, because we want sponsorships that way we ain't gotta ask y'all for no money.

SPEAKER_01

Hi, Dr. Stephanie.

SPEAKER_04

That's my auntie too.

SPEAKER_01

Ericsson, come on.

SPEAKER_04

Come on, family. Come on, family. Okay. That will get you hired. What's the thing that will get you hired? Honestly, your experience. Yeah. That is that is good. And we did talk about that in the episode, and Michelle highlighted it about no matter what your background, you can be a single mom that now all your kids are raised. I'll let you finish that speaker.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, let's see. The thing that will get you higher, experience will get you hired, your personality will get you hired. Um, what you're saying in an interview will get you hired. I mean, there's no particular thing that will get you hired. All of it encompassed will get you hired. It's how you present yourself during an interview. A lot of um interviewing now is done um via Zoom or Skype, or um, so it's a lot, a lot of companies have gone away from face-to-face interviews or group interviews, and they find it more advantageous to do a video interview. So it's now about how you can sell yourself on that video interview that's gonna get you higher and your experience, your life experience. If you're coming already with a lifetime of skill and experience, a lot of that will translate well over to a recruiter who's looking at just you on paper and you via video. So it's how well you can translate that so that they're like, oh, this person seems interesting. Now I can bring them in for a face-to-face interview.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, correct. Hey Sean, hey Phoenix. I see another question, Darien. Can you read that now?

SPEAKER_02

As AI is beginning to progress in the world, how do you feel that may affect your affect your role as a flight attendant or the airline industry at large? So I've actually discussed this with another flight attendant, and she was best like, do you think they'll ever get to a point where they'll have robots? I'm like, I personally don't think so, because that's like having robots as pilots, and that ain't gonna ever happen because nobody's gonna put that much trust into technology to allow someone to fly them 35,000 feet in the air, 600 miles an hour via a robot. So there are certain situations, certain positions that will always require a human. You know what I mean? I do feel like though, with AI progressing and technology progressing, that is gonna make things a lot easier for us as flight attendants. Um the technology on the on the aircraft, how we communicate with passengers, how we do the demos, how our medical equipment is going to get is going to progress and improve. So in those cases, I am excited for AI because I think AI has done more good than bad for us as a as a whole. And I feel like it's gonna help to make our job a little bit more efficient and easier. So but I don't, I'm not truly worried about it as far as replacing our jobs. Like I agree. You know, it's not like a self-checkout, like you can do self-checkout. You don't need to cash in for that, but for something where it comes to saving lives and uh being a first responder and you know handling disputes and situations or altercations in the air, you need a human.

SPEAKER_04

I agree, and absolutely it's funny because Hey Marvin, I had addressed the comment that I saw from uh someone under uh our the interviewer of the Inside Edition um piece, they had said replaced them with robots. And my thing is see if you want a robot to save your life. Good luck. See if you, even as we're talking about the whole touching aspect, see if you're gonna touch a robot and get their attention. You know what I'm saying? So certain aspects of our job cannot be taken away from because at the end of the day, it's still customer service driven. Yes, absolutely. A lot of people come on the plane and expect us to do certain things. And the things that they expect us to do, they're not going to get out of a robot or AI experience. Um, do we need technology to advance? Absolutely. Absolutely. And the tip for all those, uh I saw an article the other day because AI is already incorporated into the aviation industry, um, even down to the way you buy your tickets. So I saw somebody do an article and they were saying how in order to kind of beat like the little system, they went to the public library to buy a ticket because they were saying the way the system is set up, and they, you know, the way I told everything. The way your phone work and listens to you, and it knows how much you spend and all the other stuff to kind of throw off the system, they went to the public library to buy a ticket, and it was far more cheaper than if they logged onto their bone. Because the algorithm. So, yeah, algorithm. So it's already affecting our industry. Um, but as a whole, I think us as a country, as a world, need to be mindful that we don't want, um look, they're trying to make the matrix real, they're trying to make the robot real. Anybody trying to be mindful that you do not want to be a race. Do I think we're gonna be a race? No. But I can't foresee the future. And so it's advantageous for us as individuals if you have a voice to speak up, speak up. And that's also the reason why we had the voice to speak to a situation that our work group was dealing with. So make sure um you are speaking up. And that's my little getting on my soapbox for today. So I see we got more questions.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Phineas said if robots became flight distendants, people would be more afraid to fly. I agree. I agree, agree. I got a Tesla, and I don't even trust my technology enough to use self-driving on it, use it twice in three years. I just don't, I don't trust nobody's technology. Why not people to find you guys? Now they're gonna target you because I don't worry about that. The look you want to go there, you don't even want to go there. But no, um, it just nobody's gonna trust the technology that much.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

They already are out of control by being in the air and trusting pilots to get you, but to not only be out of control of that, but to also have to deal with machines to assist you in the air.

SPEAKER_04

It's we see how the weight moves are gone. Like we'll get stuck in the middle of the intersection and not know which way is up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but this is what's going on. Also, we do have more. Okay, is it going up? I applause you all because I used to do reservations work from home, and travelers are intense as AF. I mean, I was home in pajamas getting pressed about rebooking flights, whereas you're you're in person. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

It's yeah, it's it takes a lot, and you have to have thick skin, and you have to know how to truly um hold your tongue, bite your tongue, and I think because the the the industry we work in, some part, and I said this in the interview, even though it didn't get clear, some part of people's consciousness in their mind leaves when they walk into the airport. Gregory. That's my dad. Gregory when he said, Yeah, so now that you're famous will help me.

SPEAKER_05

So now that you're famous, drop your name off.

SPEAKER_04

You have always been able to do that, sir. So now that there it is. Oh, my brother's in here too.

SPEAKER_02

Is that JJ uh? Yeah, uh-huh. He said, What are the perks of being a flight attendant? I can name myself. Yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

I will start with Oh, hold on before we go there. So between me and Michelle, I think, no, excuse me, between the three of us, Darion flies way more than any of us, and probably some of the flight attendants that might log on, he utilizes his benefits to the max.

SPEAKER_02

Go ahead. The benefits of being able to, first of all, not only fly my airline, but fly any other airline domestically for free.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Anywhere you need to go is amazing. It makes standby travel that much easier because hey, if I can't get on my airline, I can look on that screen and see, oh, they go there, they go there, they're good. And I can find another route to get to where I need to go. That's number one. The love and respect that you get from um people in out in the airports and what that love flight ascends is just the respect that we receive from the community is amazing. Also, the opportunity to make money doing what you love, which is traveling, and being able to see new cities that you've never been to or heard of. But I I've never been to Montana until I started, you know, doing this job and being able to see different places that you would have never thought you would have access to and get paid to be there is phenomenal. That's just that's just a few.

SPEAKER_04

I just went to the infamous FRS, I mean F18. Because I'm just gonna say, not, I'm sure not any of you that are viewing how we got so many critiques on that first video, even though we were just talking, just gradually, and it was new to us. Bang bang. It was like Fresno is not. They couldn't wait for it.

SPEAKER_00

They couldn't wait, hadn't watched the episode.

SPEAKER_04

Like it was like trying to call your uh flight attendant card in the question.

SPEAKER_00

Oh hadn't watched the episode yet?

SPEAKER_04

Not bam bang. Hadn't watched the episode, not yet, but they was they was on that MRS.

SPEAKER_00

But we appreciate the engagement.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, we do. Hi, Mr. Peacock, we love you. Yes, okay, we got some more questions.

SPEAKER_01

How do you maintain? Ooh, that's a good one. Oh, how do you maintain your mental health and do self-care after a stressful or long flight? So for me, um, we just had a long conversation about this the other day about mental health.

SPEAKER_04

And that's an episode that's getting ready to come out.

SPEAKER_01

Your own brand of mental health needs to be um everybody at this table is team, see a therapist. Yes. So that that doesn't even need to be something that we need to discuss. However, we are gonna discuss it on a future episode. But for me, I am all about team, go see a massage therapist and team go get a facial. I love my therapist, I love my my ascetician to pieces. She gets me right once a month. She sees me once a month, and I am a reader, so I love sitting down in total silence with some tea and a book. And just loving on my dog and just peace and quiet. I love good silence after hearing so many voices throughout the day, throughout three or four days in tight spaces with conversations, most of them you really don't want to hear. Silence. Hearing your own thoughts without hearing everybody else's. Yeah. Some people like to decompress with their beverage of choice.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Shout out to Mr. Julio and Don.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's nothing wrong. Right. That is Josh's favorite drink. And it's nothing wrong with that, but finding, you know, finding your cadence for your own way. And I also um I love my Peloton. So I I like getting out on fitness. Thir 30 minutes on my Peloton. And when all of that is done, get me in a bath with some candles. And again, silence. Silence is my friend. So that is my brand of, you know, enjoying my time.

SPEAKER_02

For me, I would say surrounding myself with my friends to keep that sense of normalcy and to catch up with them. Because one thing about our job, we are gone often. And people that are not in our industry, they're like, you're always gone. So I try my best when I am off to make sure that I'm spending time with whether it's a mate or friends or family to make sure that they still see me because nothing is like the love from your family and friends. Correct. You know what I mean? That keeps you grounded. Keeps you feel, you know, pushing forward when on days when it's hard. Also, for me, like I said, I love to travel. It helps me to appreciate coming back to work because of these benefits. So I like to take vacations often and go to the water. And it's for me, that's very peaceful and it's very tranquil for me. Um, and and last thing, my therapist. My therapist is phenomenal. She's helped me in more ways than I can say. And I I will tell anyone, I'm an huge advocate for therapy. Please, please, if you can, especially if you have the benefits of the because we know it's expensive, please go talk to someone. It is one of the best outlets ever to keep your sanity in this industry. For real.

SPEAKER_04

I think for me and everybody in this room, uh, and some out in the viewing public know. For me, I am always going to say um my relationship with God. Uh, because prayer works. I don't care what nobody says. Try him, and you will see um that God will show up and calm you in the midst of the storm. Um, also in the same uh say breath, nephew, somebody you said you, you know.

SPEAKER_02

I was trying to make sure I could still see these words. That's why I had it in me so I could see, but I want to make sure they can see y'all.

SPEAKER_01

My nephew over on IG. Hey nephew.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, another piece is one thing I picked up from my partner was if he's having an overwhelming day, he watches a lighthearted movie, a favorite lighthearted movie to calm his spirit. Um and for me, I've had to tap into that. Like, or, you know, because I'm X-Men is now back out, X-Men 97. You know, I'll put on a good little cartoon or something like that. Because it's lighthearted, right? And I my brain doesn't have to overwork. I can do that. Or the golden girls. Because baby. Oh, I learned some golden girls. I watched them to go to the sleep to this day. I watched them to go to sleep. To this day, baby. Watch them to go to sleep. So that's important. And uh, we got some more people coming in.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't mean to cut you off right now. No, no, you're not gonna be. I'm just not seeing these. What regimens do you use to stay looking good? Oh go ahead, Michelle.

SPEAKER_04

That's human is everything, baby. Yeah, they tell I took I keep telling y'all, I keep, excuse me, I keep telling Michelle, like they stay after her.

SPEAKER_02

I don't care if they don't see me. Me good. They can see me on the other one. But tell them, tell the world. What's your thing?

SPEAKER_01

Listen, I I tell I I see my esthetician and water and minding my own business. I keep my skin, my skincare is very simple. Uh and what else do I use? Um, I am uh what is the I knew somebody was gonna ask and I was gonna forget. What did Nina Law say? She used that Estee Laud on her name.

SPEAKER_00

That Estee Laud on your neighbor.

SPEAKER_01

Uh Rice Water Bright.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I have heard rice waters really.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, right, rice water bright and some water. And don't sleep in your makeup.

SPEAKER_02

Hello. Who does Oh, Princess asked earlier up top, y'all. Oh, I'm wondering the pet peeves. What's our name? Oh, that was that was sorry, Princess.

SPEAKER_04

It's like nobody has requested to come live because we got questions for everybody else and other flight attendants.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Um go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, pet peeve of mine, uh feet on the wall, shoes on the wall, feet on the furniture, feet on the tray table. Y'all keep your feet on the ground.

SPEAKER_05

That's where they belong.

SPEAKER_01

Why your feet anywhere but on the ground? Don't do that. Oh, that's all I got. That's an author thought. That's all I got for it.

SPEAKER_02

For me, I would say my biggest pet feeb. If I'm out serving drinks, do not try to hand me trash. Like, why would you think that's the right time to hand me something that you want me to discard of?

SPEAKER_01

And to say, it's just trash.

SPEAKER_02

It could just wait. No shade. Like, why? I I can you imagine you're at a restaurant and somebody's bringing a load of steak and potatoes and shrimp to your table, and you're trying to hand them a dirty plate to put on that table where that beautiful uh bone the ribeye is.

unknown

Crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I don't understand. I think when people sometimes go into the airport, they lose all sense of common sense, unfortunately. And it's just like, did you really just try to hand me that McDonald's bag while I got a whole tray of drinks?

SPEAKER_04

So a pet peeve for me when I'm going through taking drink water is someone ordering multiple drinks at one time. Because I understand you might like a water and a coffee, but you can't drink them at the same time. And for me, I am serving about 30 people during a certain amount. More than that, actually. Like, yeah, during a certain amount of time. So to think that I have time to dedicate not just one, but two drinks to you at first. Not like I'm okay with doing second. Especially when you're quick flight. Yes. You're asking me, what? You got two mouths, like you're about to drink them both at the same time. That is not going to happen. So that for me is a peck peeve. And granted, for anybody to say, oh, we got that two. No, I actually, with all my passengers, I always set the precedence of which one would you like first? Absolutely. So what Eric, what Erica got to say?

SPEAKER_01

Erica said uh a pet peeve is when passengers come on and you we say hello and they don't say anything back. Erica, that is a good one.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my God, yes. Yeah, absolutely. Because it's like they don't want to talk to you then, but they want to they want to get your attention when it's time to get something to drink.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

They want you to handle them when they have an emergency, or they can't get their bag up, or they need to figure out if they're gonna make that connection. But when they can't greet us, it's like what?

SPEAKER_04

I'm not even specifically talking about those with the headphones and you can't you know act like they can't see you. Then you're talking about those that look directly. Mm-hmm. Look and like you and still turn it or walk straight past you.

SPEAKER_01

Is it a full flight? Yes, yes, it is.

SPEAKER_02

Um wait, what was it? It was a good one. Um, it was something about the 40-hour work week. Yeah. Yeah, it says what was your what are our schedules? Somebody said, what is our schedule? What are your schedules like? Is it a 40-hour work week or like work two on all three or just whatever you like to take? So anybody go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

So typically, um typically it is uh you work one trip, which is either two or three days, which is two overnights, and on day three, you fly and then you go home, or it can be either um a four-day where you have three overnights and then you fly and then you're home on day four, or it can be um one overnight and then you you fly and then you're um on day and then you're home the next day. So it really depends what on average is two overnights and then you fly and you're home on day three.

SPEAKER_02

And also with with most airlines, you're going to be given a set a schedule because the month prior, and you're able to manipulate that schedule and change it to how you want it to be. So for me, I work at a funeral home on the weekend, so therefore I don't like to work on the weekend. So I can make it to where I only work Monday through Friday. If you want to work all week up to six days, because legally you can only go work six days straight, um, you can, but the average flight attendant does a usually one trip a week. That can range for, like she said, a turn, which is when you come right back the same day, a two-day, which requires a one-night overnight somewhere, a three-day or a four-day. Some do six, but um it all depends on how you want your schedule to be. That's what one of the greatest things about being a flight attendant is the flexibility. If you want to work 200 hours in a month and clear, and clear, clear, check, clear a check, you can. And if you want to work little to nothing, you can. It all just depends on the airline that you work for.

SPEAKER_04

And schedule and pay are two different things. So when people ask us, I know a lot of times when people ask us, well, is it based on a 40-hour work week? They're trying to ask two questions at once. The reason why we can't explain our pay a lot of times is because there's so many variables that go into that. When people ask us, it's a full flight. You all shouldn't be concerned about a full flight. We should. Because we get a little more extra for that. Um or when that door closes. I know a lot of the news has been around that and flights since getting paid when the door closes. That uh plays a part into it. Um the flight time, there's so many aspects. Even when we're on our overnights, we get per diem if that company offers that to you as a flight attendant. So there's so many aspects that we cannot say, this is our pay, because there's we might have a rate, but there's still also other little situations that we get paid on that is just not a blanket statement. So for all those to be trying to clock somebody's paycheck, talking about some why you work when you go back to work. Don't worry about that. Imagine I've got a square way, okay?

SPEAKER_02

Someone says, What is the worst passage you have? Ooh, we. I'll be on this 13. I'm gonna fly for 13. I would have to say, most recently, the man that slapped my arm away because I had I had tried to get his attention during final descent. And you know, when doing final descent, you have to put your trays up and put your feedbacks up and make sure you're buckled up. And I got to his row and he was asleep. But he had his tray down and his seat was back. I said, Hello, sir, sir, we need you to put your thing up. I said it louder, hey sir. And I was like, Can one of y'all tap him? They did that, and nothing happened. I'm like, hopefully this man ain't dead. So I went and lightly tapped him. This was the only time we like to have to touch y'all if we can't get your attention from speaking to you. And I tapped him on his shoulder and he slapped my arm. Sorry, he was like, Don't you mother touch me again? Called me inward, said you get away from me. Don't you he went off? It's like he lost it. He woke up, woke up out of his and just went crazy. And of course, you know, the police called when I got there, so I'm like, Don't you, don't you dare? But that was probably the worst for me, was because I felt like that was a physical situation I didn't have to be that way. I had a whole bunch of other stories, but for me, that was to me the worst because it's like I tried multiple different ways to communicate with you before I even had to tap you, but it did not work because you were in your deep slumber, which is cool. But do not respond to a person like that when we're just trying to make sure that we're doing our compliance, like we're told to do, to make sure that everything is safe when we land. Yeah. That was the craziest for me. Yeah. What about you?

SPEAKER_01

Uh for me, mine unfortunately was a medical situation. Um happened happened during happened during COVID, had a passenger that had um a couple of pretty pretty dramatic seizures. And um one was one was so bad, and it happened on Father's Day. And he was going to see his uh parents who hadn't seen him because he unfortunately was um incarcerated. So I think about that one always because when we landed, um the EMTs took him to the hospital, and all I could think of his parents waiting at baggage claim, not knowing he's not knowing that he had a major medical episode, and his parents are waiting in baggage claim, and I have no way, you know, to contact his parents. I think, you know, I hope he's okay. His parents are waiting, and you know, there's nothing you can do in this wideest sense. Unfortunately, we often never know what happens on the other side of medical situations that we're involved in.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So that was my worst. I mean, I both had other naughty passenger incidents, but that one for me still resonates with me because it's like you have this young man, he's going to see his parents. He was naughty too because he hadn't been taking his medicine. So some of that was personal responsibility.

SPEAKER_04

Hit those wave buttons because I want people to know we actually uh I want people to know that we actually see them.

SPEAKER_02

That was the one wave.

SPEAKER_04

Do you see anybody that um on there that uh we talked to or mention they want to come live?

SPEAKER_02

Not as of yet. It's just coming down.

SPEAKER_05

Uh uh. One second, y'all. Bear with us. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just keeping on I'll let them see y'all. I might have my face on the thing. Uh do you like do you think the airplane will serve food?

SPEAKER_04

Well, it depends on what airline. Because there are some airlines that do. Um so I feel like y'all already know what you're hitting at, whoever the questions airline, because you might know something. Uh so it just depends on what airline, because some do, especially those airlines that go international versus anything. Um domestically, I think Delta does, but that's usually, I'm assuming, if you're going coast to coast.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think that's so they have so a lot of the inner the American uh US-based airlines have it, but it's usually food for purchase. Uh, but it has to be over three hours. Now, okay, of course, if you are in first class, if you're on a flight, I think it's over an hour and a half with the different air, different airlines, you will receive a free meal. But there's food for purchase on a lot of airlines. Some do it, some don't. But you definitely get food when you go overseas or you're on a flight that's six, seven hours.

SPEAKER_04

And shout out to my mother who's on on the live as well, because she asked that question. I guess that was the the worst passenger question.

SPEAKER_01

And shout out to my mom who checked in.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, mom. I love that.

SPEAKER_01

Hey.

SPEAKER_02

Come on, fam. It's a family affair.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, oh, okay. All right. Hello.

SPEAKER_02

Well, at least I need to turn my mom. I'm glad I had a couple about there.

SPEAKER_04

I forgot to turn on notifications. Um thank you. Thank you, thank you. Anybody on Instagram want to come live? Any flight attendants out there? Right. Please. Everybody that's on 10 minutes. So we get to. Okay, hold on. What's this question? It seems sometimes passengers become a little stupid line.

SPEAKER_02

Well Phoenix, I'm gonna have to tell you how I feel about that.

SPEAKER_04

Why do people take off their shoes when they go to the another pet peeve, man? I think that is so disgusting.

SPEAKER_01

So um, thanks for asking that question.

SPEAKER_04

No, I don't know. Erica Nico, that was somebody else. Erica Nicole. Oh, that's your mom. Yes, yes, mom. Oh, no, Cynthia. I'm sorry. Yes. So here's the thing with that. And I think this also, I'm not gonna say this is a direct tie to why we don't like to be poped and prodded and touched and all that other stuff, but it is definitely a part of it. Because us as flight attendants, especially because the lavatories are close to our galleys where we pour drinks and put up snacks and everything, we have a front row view to how people use what we call the lavatory and how quickly somebody can go into that lavatory, maybe flush the toilet and quickly come out and not nan water, and I was real country with that, not nan ounce of water went down that that sink or uh paper towel wasn't put in the trash because their hands weren't washed. So that's another level of of it. And I mean, hey, every to each his own. You might have pure rail at your seat and you want to do it that way, but also we don't know. And we are flight attendants are susceptible to sickness often because we are dealing with sick children, passengers that are traveling with illnesses that decided to still get on the plane regardless of whatever their status, or yeah, their status of knowing or not knowing, and all of that. So I said all that, we aware. So with the shoe thing, we don't know. We see it, and we try to even give advice like, oh, you don't wanna especially when it's kids. Yeah, no.

SPEAKER_02

If I see a child like, I have because you got tricked your parents for your shoes, you gotta put on shoes when you go in the bathroom. Because if your I'm not gonna say that word, how do I say this? People miss.

SPEAKER_04

If I don't say it, goof it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I can't say that. Yeah, no, no, no. We want to get so we want to go to the we don't leave that alone. If I gotta sometimes you gotta see, you gotta train other people's kids. How about that? Because I shouldn't have to tell your kids to go ask you for shoes because you should do that yourself.

SPEAKER_01

But anyway, we just gotta look we just gotta look out for the baby. Yeah, look out for the people. We want to try to look out and look out if there's something. No, they're fine.

SPEAKER_04

And that's not okay. Hey, but we just want to also be advised that that flaw, especially in that laboratory.

SPEAKER_02

Do you think alcohol? Do you think alcohol plays a part to play in people's behavior? Absolutely. Oh, yes. And one of the reasons why I was I was based in Vegas for nine years, and one of the issues that we constantly dealt with was having to either deplane or deny boarding because people come on drunk. Why? Because they get on the plane, they may be nervous or they're going to celebrate something, so they're ready to get get lit, so they want to drink a lot before they get on the plane, and they're at the bars in the airports drinking like crazy, and then they get on the plane, and people don't realize when you are in the air, your intoxication level is even stronger because of the altitude. So where you might be on the ground and can drink two or three shots and be fine, if you do them three shots in the air, you're going to be intoxicated a lot faster. So it definitely plays a part because people get forget that when you're in the air, your body operates differently, especially with alcohol, correct, than when you're on the ground. Correct. And it causes people to do a lot of things and say a lot of things that they normally wouldn't do, and it can cause a lot of problems. And I dealt with quite a few issues with that. But you know, it's a name the game, it's part of, it's a part of what we do.

SPEAKER_01

So over on IG, uh Big O the comedian said, I make it fun. If they poke me, I just look at them and say, Don't touch the danza. The reactions are usually laughter or embarrassment, depending on the culture of the destination. And he also said, I usually poke them back. Well, hey.

SPEAKER_04

No, I'm I I try to make those situations light and fun. I I do not, and I think most flight attendants do not make it a big thing. I think that's the also another reason why so many people are unaware that this happens. Happens as often as it does. And even while we're getting some pushback from people in comment sections, um, making it seem like, oh, it's not a big thing. No, it's a very big thing. But because of our profession and how we have to show up, we try to do it in, you know, in class, in in such a sweet, uh, funny um way so you don't feel targeted or attacked or trying to be careful, trying to be charismatic about it. So it's not a yeah, so that is definitely thing.

SPEAKER_03

Any uh, any my mother says, Do you think the plane will oh we already answered that? Do you think alcohol like that's that thing?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, we got to that. Yeah, five more minutes, y'all. If y'all have any questions, yeah, reach out, speak now.

SPEAKER_04

Uh people get a little loose and drunk because hey, I got I done got some big tips. And I'm telling you, we are going to say no three times. When I get to that third no, if you still got that money in hand, hey.

SPEAKER_02

Tell off some money. Hey, it is what it is. Has anyone experienced turbulence so bad that you thought you second guessed your decision on yes?

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. I did. Yes, absolutely. First time ever experiencing it. And it made me really look at passengers a second way. I ain't gonna say where I was flying into because I don't fly there anymore because of the the passengers. However, I was flying into this city and the turbulence hit so bad the floor left my feet. Yep. And I mean left my feet to where I was in the air for about at least five seconds. And it startled me. And the captain, flight attendants immediately take your seats. And I had a passenger yell out, I'm not gonna get my drink. Oh my God. And it made me want to literally pull my hair out because it's like you see me in this aisle trying to hold on for dear life. Literally, and you worried about a drink.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. It happened. And it's that's so true. We were, we were, um, I was actually in my jump seat. And I tell people, if you worried about turbulence, check the bad, look at the flight attendance. Yes. If they look worried, it must be some really bad turbulence. And I ain't gonna lie, y'all. I try to keep my composure when it comes to stuff like that, but I will never forget that day. I said, I think I may not see Merth ever again because it was so bad. I was sweating from every it was so bad. And it you know, you're in the in the jump seat and it it drops and your butt lift off the seat. Yeah, it was like that, it was insane. People were throwing up, screaming, crying, people was yelling out, praying. It was the worst I've ever, ever, ever.

SPEAKER_01

And usually, and usually when that when that turbulence happens, it's usually clear air turbulence. That that turbulence literally comes from nowhere. Nowhere, nothing. Nobody sees it coming. I mean, my worst experience ever, we were going into one of the most beautiful places. We were going to an island and we were landing, and there was a passenger. She just, I had to go to the bathroom. I'm like, ma'am, you need to be seated. And she just had to, I have to go. And she's trying to hold on to seats. And I watched that plane rise and I watched the turbulence, and she ended up actually injuring herself and ended up in one of the most beautiful places, going out in the wheelchair on a stretcher because she injured her knee. She hit her knee on one of the armrests.

SPEAKER_05

So pay attention.

SPEAKER_01

I felt bad for it.

SPEAKER_05

Put the seatbelt on, put the seatbelt on.

SPEAKER_01

She was on the she was on the floor and I'm in the back, fastened into the jump seat, yelling at her to stay on the ground, and she's still trying to crawl to the bathroom. Ma'am, stay down. There's a reason why I'm if I'm yelling to you to stay down, I'm not doing it for to hear myself yell. I'm telling you because it is really bad. If I can't walk and I am the professional in the room.

SPEAKER_04

We do this.

SPEAKER_01

You know, ma'am, stay seated.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. So, because we only got three minutes left.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that went by so fast.

SPEAKER_02

We need to do this. We probably have to do this more often.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna do this because we all have it ironed out a lot better. Yes. And I hate that we could not hear any voices of our flight attendant brothers and sisters on camera. Um, but we're gonna get it squared away for next time. First and foremost, thank you for riding the jump seat with us. If you are not following us on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, ticket top, ticket topic, uh threads. We are either threads now. We're not on the X, but we definitely on Threads. So um, our social medias are out there. We do want you all to engage all our family and friends that are logged in. Please talk to other family and friends. SPEAKER_01

It's not about the destination, it's about the perspective. We land in places only seen on television or read about in books. We recognize how big and small the world truly is at 35,000 feet. Thanks for riding a jump seat with us. Until next time, we'll see you on the next flight. Thank you guys.

SPEAKER_04

Bye. Happy international flight into the day. Love y'all.

SPEAKER_05

See y'all cool. Hit that in button. There we are. Oh, we should have told hit the in button right there. We should have told them that.
