Sharlotte and Aunt Steve cover a whirlwind stretch of their road trip—from Kansas City to New Mexico, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Along the way: a science museum inside a train station, climbing through slot canyons, messy milkshake moments, and a very strong opinion about In-N-Out Burger. Plus, they share what it’s really like grocery shopping and doing life on the road—before heading off to their next big adventure: the national parks.

SPEAKER_01

Hi, I'm Charlotte.

SPEAKER_00

And who am I?

SPEAKER_01

My aunt.

SPEAKER_00

Aunt Steve.

SPEAKER_01

My Aunt Steve.

SPEAKER_00

Or Uncle Steve.

SPEAKER_01

Uncle Steve.

SPEAKER_00

Uncle Turtle, depending on which kid you ask.

SPEAKER_01

And this is middle school Miles.

SPEAKER_00

So it's been what, like a week or so since your last episode?

SPEAKER_01

I think more than a week. I think it's been like two weeks.

SPEAKER_00

At least a week and a half.

SPEAKER_01

At least a week and a half, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What have we done?

SPEAKER_01

We've done a lot of things. We've been to Kansas.

SPEAKER_00

Oklahoma.

SPEAKER_01

Oklahoma. New Mexico. And Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_00

And Arizona.

SPEAKER_01

In Arizona.

SPEAKER_00

What were your two favorite things that you did along the way?

SPEAKER_01

A science museum inside of a train station in Kansas City. But you got like paint on like windows. And I did not make a mess. But there was this one kid covered in paint. And probably like climbing thingy.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, the climbing thingy outside?

SPEAKER_01

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That looked like blood plates. I don't notice that did you?

SPEAKER_01

No. I was climbing it. It was fun.

SPEAKER_00

So it was in a train station?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was inside of a train station. Like an old train station.

SPEAKER_00

So what did the train station look like?

SPEAKER_01

Massive. It was just massive, and it had like shops and like restaurants and dessert places and science museums in it.

SPEAKER_00

And people.

SPEAKER_01

Oh not really lots of people until like the afternoon.

SPEAKER_00

And then we also got a tour of our friend's office. You could see Missouri, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas. And more Kansas.

SPEAKER_01

And North Kansas. Different than Kansas City.

SPEAKER_00

Correct. Very different. How are they different?

SPEAKER_01

Because one is north.

SPEAKER_00

Nailed it.

SPEAKER_01

Nailed it.

SPEAKER_00

What else? The Missouri side is not as busy as the Kansas side.

SPEAKER_01

It was very light and pathy.

SPEAKER_00

And then we stayed at a hotel for a couple days.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, and we also drove when we were going into Kansas City. We also drove by the women's football club, which was really cool.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Yeah, we did do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The only stadium in the country dedicated to women's sports.

SPEAKER_01

It was so cool. It was like cute. It was cool.

SPEAKER_00

It was cool. We stayed in a hotel for a couple days because the bus had to go in the shop.

SPEAKER_01

We got to pole one night. Oh, we got Hawaiian food. And we got ice cream. It was like dairy queen. And I got mint oyo, which was so good. It was like mid.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. I forgot about that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you we got ice cream.

SPEAKER_00

And then after Kansas City, we stopped in Oklahoma for a night. Actually, two nights. Because I could and then we went to New Mexico.

SPEAKER_01

Right to New Mexico. And I met your fence. And we went rock climbing. But it wasn't really rock climbing. It was like you had to climb like this path, and there was like trees and like rocks and a whole bunch of stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

It was called tent rocks.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that. And you had to walk through this cave rock.

SPEAKER_00

Through a slot canyon.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That's what that's called.

SPEAKER_00

And rock. What was most interesting about the shape of the rocks? Tent Rocks.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the tent shake. That's the shape that I was.

SPEAKER_00

That's the name. Tent Rocks.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's.

SPEAKER_00

So we met up with my friends and their nephew.

SPEAKER_01

Beachiros.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you definitely ate some chicks.

SPEAKER_01

And a peach milkshake. That was the best peach milkshake I've ever had. It was good.

SPEAKER_00

And that was New Mexico. We went to Arizona.

SPEAKER_01

Which was Route 66. And I had another milkshake from another restaurant, and I had an avocado. BLLT. Bacon avocado.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, ma BLTT.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado.

SPEAKER_01

It had avocado on it.

SPEAKER_00

Something. Turkey.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, it had turkey on it.

SPEAKER_00

Bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey with avocado.

SPEAKER_01

With avocado. And a strawberry milkshake. It was really good.

SPEAKER_00

It was a little messy.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. That's not my fault. The waiter brought up extra and I was slipping it, and then I was like, oh, let me pour some more in it. And so I was like pulling it. And I got half of it into the cup. So I got half. But the other bits of milkshake did not survive.

SPEAKER_00

They landed on the table.

SPEAKER_01

They landed on the table.

SPEAKER_00

Let's just call it what it was. It landed on the table.

SPEAKER_01

It was sad.

SPEAKER_00

And then we drove a lot.

SPEAKER_01

A lot. No, you drove a lot.

SPEAKER_00

I drove a lot. You napped a lot. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

No, I didn't. When did I take a nap?

SPEAKER_00

Like the entire drive. Except when I told you to put your phone down so you could look out the window.

SPEAKER_01

Because I took a nap and I went, you gotta see what time it was, and you're like, put your phone down, look out the window, enjoy nature.

SPEAKER_00

So what did you see when you looked out the window that one?

SPEAKER_01

Rocks, mountains, trees, rocks, dirt, really.

SPEAKER_00

You have to see snow on top of the mountain.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was kind. Because you're on top of like a hill.

SPEAKER_00

And then where did we go?

SPEAKER_01

Las Vegas. Which is one of the top states for gambling.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. So we have to see lots of casinos. But we didn't go in them.

SPEAKER_01

No. Because gambling is bad, children. You shouldn't do it. It's so bad for you.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah. And we picked up one of our family members. Uncle Roy. And we went and we got in an outburger.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks, Uncle Roy.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks, Uncle. And we got in an outburger. We finally got in and outburger. And I'm not gonna stop talking about that because the one thing that I wanted to do so badly, and it was actually really good.

SPEAKER_00

What'd you get?

SPEAKER_01

I got a cheeseburger with onion and French fries and a pink lemonade. And it was really good. And I would definitely go there every single day for the rest of my life, and that'd be the one meal that I ate every single day. I'd probably be broke, but I would eat it every single day.

SPEAKER_00

That's a commitment.

SPEAKER_01

That's a commitment.

SPEAKER_00

That's a lot. That's a lot for a cheeseburger.

SPEAKER_01

It was a I don't usually like cheeseburgers, but this cheeseburger was life-changing.

SPEAKER_00

So what do we do for groceries? Like how do we go grocery shopping on the world?

SPEAKER_01

One of two things. We're either out and about and we go inside the store and like pick up one to two things. Or you already have a pre-made list on your phone and you just like door dash like not door dash it, but like what's it called? I just Door dash it.

SPEAKER_00

Set it up for a pickup at the store.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, or get it delivered.

SPEAKER_00

But we keep a list all week of everything that we need.

SPEAKER_01

Or everything that we eat.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So when we pass by the store, we can pick it up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like blackberries, raspberries, dino nuggets.

SPEAKER_00

What other things do we eat when we're on the road?

SPEAKER_01

Snacks.

SPEAKER_00

You eat snacks when we're driving, for sure.

SPEAKER_01

There'll be like a bag of snacks next to me.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Or we going to like a gas station and grab like Subway or Godfather pizza.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, you did have that pizza.

SPEAKER_01

That wasn't bad.

SPEAKER_00

Wasn't bad. Making a face.

SPEAKER_01

It wasn't good either, but it wasn't bad. I probably wouldn't get it again.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't in and out.

SPEAKER_01

It wasn't in and out. It wasn't jets, but it wasn't bad.

SPEAKER_00

We haven't had jets in a while.

SPEAKER_01

No, we haven't. But I did find a dupe for one of my favorite jets feature, which is the chicken barbecue. And you can get it at Walmart on a flat bread. And it's the same exact thing. It has different crusts. It's not the same crust. And it has like onions on top of it. Like camel caramelized onions, that's what they're called.

SPEAKER_00

What about caramelized onions?

SPEAKER_01

This is the thing with caramelized onions. You gotta caramelize them.

SPEAKER_00

Part of the day.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's part of the whole thing.

SPEAKER_00

But you know how to make that.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember what the ingredients are, but I know what it looks like. You take a pan and onions and butter. Not lots of butter, but like good amount of butter.

SPEAKER_00

And some salt, pepper, and season.

SPEAKER_01

Seasoning.

SPEAKER_00

You're making a hand dust. So people can't hear that in a pot.

SPEAKER_01

It's like it's like a flipping things in a pan? Yes.

SPEAKER_00

You like stir it constantly.

SPEAKER_01

Like a skillet. Like you move like a you flip it like a pancake.

SPEAKER_00

Can you flip a pancake?

SPEAKER_01

No. I tried once.

SPEAKER_00

Can you make a pancake?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we're gonna have to.

SPEAKER_01

Last time I tried to make pancakes, I used the wrong type of flour, and I almost burnt the house down. So I was told not to make pancakes ever.

SPEAKER_00

Since the incident.

SPEAKER_01

Not since the incident.

SPEAKER_00

We'll have to practice that again.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna just go to pancakes make.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not gonna leave you unsupervised.

SPEAKER_01

I was unsupervised.

SPEAKER_00

That's why the house didn't burn down.

SPEAKER_01

Probably.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. So what's next on our adventures? So now we picked up Uncle Roy in Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So for the next 10, 11 days, we're gonna be doing what?

SPEAKER_01

Adventuring. And hanging out on my roy.

SPEAKER_00

And where will we be adventuring to?

SPEAKER_01

National Parks.

SPEAKER_00

And where are we right now?

SPEAKER_01

Valley of Fire. Wait, wait, do fireworks talk here?

SPEAKER_00

No, there's a no-fire warning.

SPEAKER_01

But there's a lot of rocks and holes not caves. Cave ick.

SPEAKER_00

How are these rocks different than what you see at home?

SPEAKER_01

Well I live in Florida, it's flat.

SPEAKER_00

That's one thing that's different, yep.

SPEAKER_01

And there's not holes and rocks where I live.

SPEAKER_00

And they're what color are they?

SPEAKER_01

The rocks here or rocks at home?

SPEAKER_00

The rocks here.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, they're like red, orange-ish? With little tints of green.

SPEAKER_00

They're carved on a Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's pretty.

SPEAKER_00

You say that as you're staring out the window at them. Because like mesmerized.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm not mesmerized. I want to know it's in that cave-ish looking hole.

SPEAKER_00

So we're gonna have to go check it out?

SPEAKER_01

I don't want to go inside of it. I don't even know if we're supposed to be climb- oh, it's a state park, so I don't know if we're supposed to be like climbing on rocks and looking into holes that probably some coyote bats, coyote, rabi thing is living in there.

SPEAKER_00

That's a good story, bro.

SPEAKER_01

That's a great story.

SPEAKER_00

So after this, we go off to Lion National Park. Like little canyon layouts, arches.

SPEAKER_01

Candylands? Oh, I got a little bit excited.

SPEAKER_00

Did you pee a little bit? Okay, then I wasn't that excited. So, what advice would you have for another kid that's on this part of the road trip and seeing the things that we just saw?

SPEAKER_01

You have to go in an app burger at least once. Because I'm not gonna stop talking about it. It's really good. I mean, I think I'm not over exaggerating it, but I probably am for people that are like don't really like burgers.

SPEAKER_00

You've hyped it.

SPEAKER_01

I I hyped it up. I like to hype things up.

SPEAKER_00

So should people listen to the next episode?

SPEAKER_01

Probably, yeah. Oh, oh. Wait, what time are we gonna go to Oregon for ice cream?

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna make our way all the way to Oregon. In Washington State, and Montana, Big and Idaho.

SPEAKER_01

Steven, be quiet.

SPEAKER_00

No, Utah.

SPEAKER_01

Steven stops.

SPEAKER_00

And then we're gonna also go to Usau. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we could go to speak. You're like interrupting me.

SPEAKER_00

The big I think we're gonna switch by Wyoming. What?

SPEAKER_01

But every time I think you're gonna say something. You want talking openly.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Keep on saying sure, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

So when we're in Oregon, we're gonna go see where they film the Goonies.

SPEAKER_01

No. Well in Oregon. Yes. Yeah. And we're in Oregon. We're gonna go to the best ice cream place on earth. Hello, muck.

SPEAKER_00

I might introduce you to another ice cream place that's as good, maybe even better. My friend Jody's farm.

SPEAKER_01

How can it be?

SPEAKER_00

And they make their own ice cream on site with their own cows.

SPEAKER_01

Do they have cherry?

SPEAKER_00

They have lots of flavors. And they make uh yogurt that's unlike any yogurt you've ever had in your life.

SPEAKER_01

I don't like yogurt.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't taste like yogurt.

SPEAKER_01

Does it taste like ice cream?

SPEAKER_00

Almost, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

If it tastes like ice cream all year.

SPEAKER_00

It's good. So we're gonna go to the Shumway Farms, Wyoming.

SPEAKER_01

Wyoming.

SPEAKER_00

And then we're gonna go to Yellowstone.

SPEAKER_01

Yellowstone.

SPEAKER_00

And Glacier National Park.

SPEAKER_01

Glacier National Park. And Tillamook.

SPEAKER_00

And then we'll go to Tillamook County, Oregon. To the Tillomone. For more ice cream.

SPEAKER_01

For more ice cream.

SPEAKER_00

So I think people understand at this point the ice cream is an issue.

SPEAKER_01

Ice cream should probably not be in reach.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it isn't because we don't have any in the freezer.

SPEAKER_01

We do.

SPEAKER_00

You do.

SPEAKER_01

We have camel.

SPEAKER_00

We still have caramel ice cream?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we have camel.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, so we have ice cream in the freezer.

SPEAKER_01

Then we have ice cream. But it's not telemuck. But it's not bad. It's just it's not good. It's not telemuck.

SPEAKER_00

That's not telemok.

SPEAKER_01

It's not telemuck.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. So folks should pay attention and wait for the next episode. We're gonna talk about our visit to the national parks.

SPEAKER_01

And ice cream.

SPEAKER_00

And maybe some ice cream.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe some ice cream.

SPEAKER_00

And thank you to Uncle Roy for in an outburger.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, thank you very much. In an outburger. Peace out. Peace out.
