Sharlotte and Aunt Steve cover a whirlwind stretch of their road trip—from Kansas City to New Mexico, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Along the way: a science museum inside a train station, climbing through slot canyons, messy milkshake moments, and a very strong opinion about In-N-Out Burger. Plus, they share what it’s really like grocery shopping and doing life on the road—before heading off to their next big adventure: the national parks.
Hi, I'm Charlotte.
SPEAKER_00And who am I?
SPEAKER_01My aunt.
SPEAKER_00Aunt Steve.
SPEAKER_01My Aunt Steve.
SPEAKER_00Or Uncle Steve.
SPEAKER_01Uncle Steve.
SPEAKER_00Uncle Turtle, depending on which kid you ask.
SPEAKER_01And this is middle school Miles.
SPEAKER_00So it's been what, like a week or so since your last episode?
SPEAKER_01I think more than a week. I think it's been like two weeks.
SPEAKER_00At least a week and a half.
SPEAKER_01At least a week and a half, yeah.
SPEAKER_00What have we done?
SPEAKER_01We've done a lot of things. We've been to Kansas.
SPEAKER_00Oklahoma.
SPEAKER_01Oklahoma. New Mexico. And Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_00And Arizona.
SPEAKER_01In Arizona.
SPEAKER_00What were your two favorite things that you did along the way?
SPEAKER_01A science museum inside of a train station in Kansas City. But you got like paint on like windows. And I did not make a mess. But there was this one kid covered in paint. And probably like climbing thingy.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the climbing thingy outside?
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Okay. That looked like blood plates. I don't notice that did you?
SPEAKER_01No. I was climbing it. It was fun.
SPEAKER_00So it was in a train station?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was inside of a train station. Like an old train station.
SPEAKER_00So what did the train station look like?
SPEAKER_01Massive. It was just massive, and it had like shops and like restaurants and dessert places and science museums in it.
SPEAKER_00And people.
SPEAKER_01Oh not really lots of people until like the afternoon.
SPEAKER_00And then we also got a tour of our friend's office. You could see Missouri, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas. And more Kansas.
SPEAKER_01And North Kansas. Different than Kansas City.
SPEAKER_00Correct. Very different. How are they different?
SPEAKER_01Because one is north.
SPEAKER_00Nailed it.
SPEAKER_01Nailed it.
SPEAKER_00What else? The Missouri side is not as busy as the Kansas side.
SPEAKER_01It was very light and pathy.
SPEAKER_00And then we stayed at a hotel for a couple days.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and we also drove when we were going into Kansas City. We also drove by the women's football club, which was really cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. Yeah, we did do that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The only stadium in the country dedicated to women's sports.
SPEAKER_01It was so cool. It was like cute. It was cool.
SPEAKER_00It was cool. We stayed in a hotel for a couple days because the bus had to go in the shop.
SPEAKER_01We got to pole one night. Oh, we got Hawaiian food. And we got ice cream. It was like dairy queen. And I got mint oyo, which was so good. It was like mid.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. I forgot about that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you we got ice cream.
SPEAKER_00And then after Kansas City, we stopped in Oklahoma for a night. Actually, two nights. Because I could and then we went to New Mexico.
SPEAKER_01Right to New Mexico. And I met your fence. And we went rock climbing. But it wasn't really rock climbing. It was like you had to climb like this path, and there was like trees and like rocks and a whole bunch of stuff like that.
SPEAKER_00It was called tent rocks.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that. And you had to walk through this cave rock.
SPEAKER_00Through a slot canyon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's what that's called.
SPEAKER_00And rock. What was most interesting about the shape of the rocks? Tent Rocks.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the tent shake. That's the shape that I was.
SPEAKER_00That's the name. Tent Rocks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's.
SPEAKER_00So we met up with my friends and their nephew.
SPEAKER_01Beachiros.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you definitely ate some chicks.
SPEAKER_01And a peach milkshake. That was the best peach milkshake I've ever had. It was good.
SPEAKER_00And that was New Mexico. We went to Arizona.
SPEAKER_01Which was Route 66. And I had another milkshake from another restaurant, and I had an avocado. BLLT. Bacon avocado.
SPEAKER_00Wait, ma BLTT.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
SPEAKER_01It had avocado on it.
SPEAKER_00Something. Turkey.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, it had turkey on it.
SPEAKER_00Bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey with avocado.
SPEAKER_01With avocado. And a strawberry milkshake. It was really good.
SPEAKER_00It was a little messy.
SPEAKER_01Okay. That's not my fault. The waiter brought up extra and I was slipping it, and then I was like, oh, let me pour some more in it. And so I was like pulling it. And I got half of it into the cup. So I got half. But the other bits of milkshake did not survive.
SPEAKER_00They landed on the table.
SPEAKER_01They landed on the table.
SPEAKER_00Let's just call it what it was. It landed on the table.
SPEAKER_01It was sad.
SPEAKER_00And then we drove a lot.
SPEAKER_01A lot. No, you drove a lot.
SPEAKER_00I drove a lot. You napped a lot. Yes.
SPEAKER_01No, I didn't. When did I take a nap?
SPEAKER_00Like the entire drive. Except when I told you to put your phone down so you could look out the window.
SPEAKER_01Because I took a nap and I went, you gotta see what time it was, and you're like, put your phone down, look out the window, enjoy nature.
SPEAKER_00So what did you see when you looked out the window that one?
SPEAKER_01Rocks, mountains, trees, rocks, dirt, really.
SPEAKER_00You have to see snow on top of the mountain.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was kind. Because you're on top of like a hill.
SPEAKER_00And then where did we go?
SPEAKER_01Las Vegas. Which is one of the top states for gambling.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So we have to see lots of casinos. But we didn't go in them.
SPEAKER_01No. Because gambling is bad, children. You shouldn't do it. It's so bad for you.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01But yeah. And we picked up one of our family members. Uncle Roy. And we went and we got in an outburger.
SPEAKER_00Thanks, Uncle Roy.
SPEAKER_01Thanks, Uncle. And we got in an outburger. We finally got in and outburger. And I'm not gonna stop talking about that because the one thing that I wanted to do so badly, and it was actually really good.
SPEAKER_00What'd you get?
SPEAKER_01I got a cheeseburger with onion and French fries and a pink lemonade. And it was really good. And I would definitely go there every single day for the rest of my life, and that'd be the one meal that I ate every single day. I'd probably be broke, but I would eat it every single day.
SPEAKER_00That's a commitment.
SPEAKER_01That's a commitment.
SPEAKER_00That's a lot. That's a lot for a cheeseburger.
SPEAKER_01It was a I don't usually like cheeseburgers, but this cheeseburger was life-changing.
SPEAKER_00So what do we do for groceries? Like how do we go grocery shopping on the world?
SPEAKER_01One of two things. We're either out and about and we go inside the store and like pick up one to two things. Or you already have a pre-made list on your phone and you just like door dash like not door dash it, but like what's it called? I just Door dash it.
SPEAKER_00Set it up for a pickup at the store.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, or get it delivered.
SPEAKER_00But we keep a list all week of everything that we need.
SPEAKER_01Or everything that we eat.
SPEAKER_00Yep. So when we pass by the store, we can pick it up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Like blackberries, raspberries, dino nuggets.
SPEAKER_00What other things do we eat when we're on the road?
SPEAKER_01Snacks.
SPEAKER_00You eat snacks when we're driving, for sure.
SPEAKER_01There'll be like a bag of snacks next to me.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Or we going to like a gas station and grab like Subway or Godfather pizza.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, you did have that pizza.
SPEAKER_01That wasn't bad.
SPEAKER_00Wasn't bad. Making a face.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't good either, but it wasn't bad. I probably wouldn't get it again.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't in and out.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't in and out. It wasn't jets, but it wasn't bad.
SPEAKER_00We haven't had jets in a while.
SPEAKER_01No, we haven't. But I did find a dupe for one of my favorite jets feature, which is the chicken barbecue. And you can get it at Walmart on a flat bread. And it's the same exact thing. It has different crusts. It's not the same crust. And it has like onions on top of it. Like camel caramelized onions, that's what they're called.
SPEAKER_00What about caramelized onions?
SPEAKER_01This is the thing with caramelized onions. You gotta caramelize them.
SPEAKER_00Part of the day.
SPEAKER_01That's that's part of the whole thing.
SPEAKER_00But you know how to make that.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember what the ingredients are, but I know what it looks like. You take a pan and onions and butter. Not lots of butter, but like good amount of butter.
SPEAKER_00And some salt, pepper, and season.
SPEAKER_01Seasoning.
SPEAKER_00You're making a hand dust. So people can't hear that in a pot.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's like a flipping things in a pan? Yes.
SPEAKER_00You like stir it constantly.
SPEAKER_01Like a skillet. Like you move like a you flip it like a pancake.
SPEAKER_00Can you flip a pancake?
SPEAKER_01No. I tried once.
SPEAKER_00Can you make a pancake?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we're gonna have to.
SPEAKER_01Last time I tried to make pancakes, I used the wrong type of flour, and I almost burnt the house down. So I was told not to make pancakes ever.
SPEAKER_00Since the incident.
SPEAKER_01Not since the incident.
SPEAKER_00We'll have to practice that again.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna just go to pancakes make.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna leave you unsupervised.
SPEAKER_01I was unsupervised.
SPEAKER_00That's why the house didn't burn down.
SPEAKER_01Probably.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So what's next on our adventures? So now we picked up Uncle Roy in Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So for the next 10, 11 days, we're gonna be doing what?
SPEAKER_01Adventuring. And hanging out on my roy.
SPEAKER_00And where will we be adventuring to?
SPEAKER_01National Parks.
SPEAKER_00And where are we right now?
SPEAKER_01Valley of Fire. Wait, wait, do fireworks talk here?
SPEAKER_00No, there's a no-fire warning.
SPEAKER_01But there's a lot of rocks and holes not caves. Cave ick.
SPEAKER_00How are these rocks different than what you see at home?
SPEAKER_01Well I live in Florida, it's flat.
SPEAKER_00That's one thing that's different, yep.
SPEAKER_01And there's not holes and rocks where I live.
SPEAKER_00And they're what color are they?
SPEAKER_01The rocks here or rocks at home?
SPEAKER_00The rocks here.
SPEAKER_01Oh, they're like red, orange-ish? With little tints of green.
SPEAKER_00They're carved on a Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's pretty.
SPEAKER_00You say that as you're staring out the window at them. Because like mesmerized.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm not mesmerized. I want to know it's in that cave-ish looking hole.
SPEAKER_00So we're gonna have to go check it out?
SPEAKER_01I don't want to go inside of it. I don't even know if we're supposed to be climb- oh, it's a state park, so I don't know if we're supposed to be like climbing on rocks and looking into holes that probably some coyote bats, coyote, rabi thing is living in there.
SPEAKER_00That's a good story, bro.
SPEAKER_01That's a great story.
SPEAKER_00So after this, we go off to Lion National Park. Like little canyon layouts, arches.
SPEAKER_01Candylands? Oh, I got a little bit excited.
SPEAKER_00Did you pee a little bit? Okay, then I wasn't that excited. So, what advice would you have for another kid that's on this part of the road trip and seeing the things that we just saw?
SPEAKER_01You have to go in an app burger at least once. Because I'm not gonna stop talking about it. It's really good. I mean, I think I'm not over exaggerating it, but I probably am for people that are like don't really like burgers.
SPEAKER_00You've hyped it.
SPEAKER_01I I hyped it up. I like to hype things up.
SPEAKER_00So should people listen to the next episode?
SPEAKER_01Probably, yeah. Oh, oh. Wait, what time are we gonna go to Oregon for ice cream?
SPEAKER_00We're gonna make our way all the way to Oregon. In Washington State, and Montana, Big and Idaho.
SPEAKER_01Steven, be quiet.
SPEAKER_00No, Utah.
SPEAKER_01Steven stops.
SPEAKER_00And then we're gonna also go to Usau. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we could go to speak. You're like interrupting me.
SPEAKER_00The big I think we're gonna switch by Wyoming. What?
SPEAKER_01But every time I think you're gonna say something. You want talking openly.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01Keep on saying sure, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00So when we're in Oregon, we're gonna go see where they film the Goonies.
SPEAKER_01No. Well in Oregon. Yes. Yeah. And we're in Oregon. We're gonna go to the best ice cream place on earth. Hello, muck.
SPEAKER_00I might introduce you to another ice cream place that's as good, maybe even better. My friend Jody's farm.
SPEAKER_01How can it be?
SPEAKER_00And they make their own ice cream on site with their own cows.
SPEAKER_01Do they have cherry?
SPEAKER_00They have lots of flavors. And they make uh yogurt that's unlike any yogurt you've ever had in your life.
SPEAKER_01I don't like yogurt.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't taste like yogurt.
SPEAKER_01Does it taste like ice cream?
SPEAKER_00Almost, yeah.
SPEAKER_01If it tastes like ice cream all year.
SPEAKER_00It's good. So we're gonna go to the Shumway Farms, Wyoming.
SPEAKER_01Wyoming.
SPEAKER_00And then we're gonna go to Yellowstone.
SPEAKER_01Yellowstone.
SPEAKER_00And Glacier National Park.
SPEAKER_01Glacier National Park. And Tillamook.
SPEAKER_00And then we'll go to Tillamook County, Oregon. To the Tillomone. For more ice cream.
SPEAKER_01For more ice cream.
SPEAKER_00So I think people understand at this point the ice cream is an issue.
SPEAKER_01Ice cream should probably not be in reach.
SPEAKER_00Well, it isn't because we don't have any in the freezer.
SPEAKER_01We do.
SPEAKER_00You do.
SPEAKER_01We have camel.
SPEAKER_00We still have caramel ice cream?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we have camel.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so we have ice cream in the freezer.
SPEAKER_01Then we have ice cream. But it's not telemuck. But it's not bad. It's just it's not good. It's not telemuck.
SPEAKER_00That's not telemok.
SPEAKER_01It's not telemuck.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So folks should pay attention and wait for the next episode. We're gonna talk about our visit to the national parks.
SPEAKER_01And ice cream.
SPEAKER_00And maybe some ice cream.
SPEAKER_01Maybe some ice cream.
SPEAKER_00And thank you to Uncle Roy for in an outburger.
SPEAKER_01Yes, thank you very much. In an outburger. Peace out. Peace out.
