SPEAKER_11Starting out hour number two here at Jazzin Around with a couple with a back-to-back black stick feature. Two birthdays, significant birthdays of Jazz Clarinettists, Master Clarinettist, starting out with a recently departed Ken Paplowski who passed away just this past year. From his 1995 album, It's a Lonesome Old Town. It's appropriate there. That's even hotter than hot. Ken Paplowski scorching. Oh, it's something he wrote called Crime House. I guess it's a little takeoff on Limehouse, maybe Limehouse Blues or something. But wow! Just a f just a flashy, flashy and fluid clarinet work. It's a loathsome old town. Happy birthday to the memory of the late Ken Paplsky. He passed away just a few months back. And another said we got a back-to-back double clarinet birthday tribute here. The late Artie Shaw. From his 1940s, man. One of his big, big hits. Pretty fluid player himself, great Artie Shaw. And for his time, a fairly progressive player, not really following into the traditional footsteps of clarinet uh and and big bands, uh, arrangements and so on for that matter. Uh, from 1940. Little frenesy there for Artie Shaw. Born uh this week, 1910. Born in New York City, raised in New Haven, Connecticut. And very mercurial as a band leader, very difficult to work with, but uh very, very brilliant and very focused. Quite a visionary, really. And speaking of visionaries, here is the ultimate visionary in uh certainly in music in the 20th century, uh, the late Sun Ra. His birthday this week. Zone Blanc, born the day before Artie Shaw. A couple years after, in 1914, in Birmingham, Alabama. The Sun Ra Orchestra, of course, as you call them. Sometimes the Myth Science Orchestra, sometimes the Solar Orchestra, all kinds of variations on that name. Uh with the great, great Sun Ra and his bands. One of the most, absolutely one of the most entertaining, progressive, and uh just stimulating orchestras ensembles anywhere on the planet Earth. There is so much activity. So let's just jump in here and see what we got. From the bottom, starting right down there at number 49 this week. The Dave Slowmaker big band been hanging around near the bottom of the chart for a few weeks. Shifty Paradigms, the name of the album, Dave Slowmaker, a ranger with his big band. Something called the Dash Cam. Nice arrangements. All from Dave Slowmaker and his big band. From the Shifty Paradigms album. Coming in at 49 this week, real strong. A lot of original, good original material on that album. Uh once again, I'm gonna ask you for uh for your indulgence, please. This is the height of uh allergy season and pollen season, and boy, my allergies are really gonna peak this week for sure. So I just understand here in case I get a little short for uh. Bear with me, my friend. We'll get through this. This week. This is a first week on the chart. It's a landmark album. It is going to be truly a landmark album. The last is called the farewell performance for the lady in Korea. And what a treat. In October of twenty twenty, just a few months before his sudden passing. Forever yours. Well titled, Forever Yours, the farewell performance, solo piano of Chick Korea. Um, what a what a huge, what a huge talent. Huge talent. NEA Jazz Master and well deserving of that. I mean, album forty two, it's the second or third week on the chart. Sam Yellow from his new album. That's a little Coco Kokuro from The Quiet Now, his new album. First week on the chart here at 42. SPEAKER_08Baby, now we're getting somewhere. You said something when you said love. Till you stepped in my kitchen. Maybe we weren't getting nowhere. You said nothing till you said love. Our little conversation drifted just like the tide. Thought I had passed my station. You were just taking me for a ride. But now, you we getting somewhere. You said something with you said love.

Coming at album number 35, a former top 10 album for a long, long time. A month and a half in the top three earlier. First lady of song.
SPEAKER_06A task it, a task, brown and yellow basket. I sent a letter to my mommy on the way. I dropped it, I dropped it, I dropped it. Yes, on the way. A little girly picked it up and put it in her pocket. She went chugging on down the avenue. Not a single thing to do. She went peck, peck, peck, all around. And then she spotted on the ground. She took it, she took it. My little yellow basket. And if she doesn't bring it back, I think that I will die.
