We’ve spent the week defining true freedom: it isn’t doing what you like; it’s doing what is right. As we prepare for Sunday worship, Father Aaron leaves us with one diagnostic question: Where are you still under a yoke?

Sometimes the chains we choose for ourselves feel more comfortable than the ones we were handed, but they are still chains.

One question to carry into Sunday and the week ahead. Good morning. This is Northword, the Word, the North, your week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican family. I'm your host, Father Aaron. Five days this week, circling the same idea from different angles. True freedom is not doing what you like, true freedom is doing what is right. Freedom in Christ is not licensed to drift, it's an invitation into a life oriented towards God and toward one another. You do, you is not the gospel. Servants of God is the gospel. That's a lot to sit with, so I want to leave you with just one question for Sunday and the week ahead. Where am I still under a yoke? Not a guilt question, a freedom question. Because Paul is clear, if you fall to your desires, if you keep choosing what you want over what is right, you are still in chains. Just chains you picked yourself, and chains you picked feel more comfortable than chains you were handed. But nonetheless, they're still chains. So I ask it honestly. Where am I still under a yoke? Where am I using the language of grace to avoid the life of grace? Bring that into worship tomorrow. Bring it into your Monday. Let the question do its work. Because the God who asks you to examine yourself is the same God who strengthens you to change. That is the freedom that is actually worth having. So see you Sunday.
