Good morning. This is Northword. Jesus takes the most ordinary things and he turns it into a moment of recognition. Good morning, this is Northword, the Word, the North, your Week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican family. I'm your host, Father Aaron. These two disciples on the road to Emmaus, they arrive at Emmaus, and Jesus acts as though he's going to keep going. He gives them the chance to end the walk early, to go their separate ways. And they hold on. They urge him to stay. They constrain him. That small act, not letting go, is the hinge of the whole story of the road to Emmaus. And then he breaks bread and their eyes are opened. Think about somewhere in your own life. Something small, something ordinary becomes the hinge of something much larger. A meal, a conversation, a moment you almost missed. Think about what just happened. Bread on the side of the road. The most common thing, the most ordinary act, not a miracle, not a theological argument, not a dramatic sign, just bread. Broken, given. Jesus takes the ordinary and makes it holy. And here is what I want you to hear. The table we gather around each week, it is not a memorial, it is not a reenactment. It is the same moment those disciples had. This has been Northword the Word, the North Your Week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican family.
