Bar Pod
Bars are one of the few businesses that don’t let you lie to yourself for very long. The numbers are real. The feedback is immediate. The mistakes are expensive. Bar Pod is a podcast about what it actually takes to build and run bars—and by extension, any small, creative, high-risk business—without the hype, the shortcuts, or the guru nonsense.
Hosted by brothers Ryan and Chad, Bar Pod is a candid, conversational series about ownership, operations, and the long game of building something that lasts. Ryan handles the day-to-day reality of running multiple bar and hospitality concepts, while Chad brings the perspective of someone balancing bartending, ownership, and family life. Together, they talk through real decisions, real mistakes, and real lessons learned the hard way.
This isn’t a how-to manual and it’s not a highlight reel. It’s an honest look at what works, what doesn’t, and why most good ideas live or die on execution. Episodes explore everything from finances and branding to staffing, burnout, risk tolerance, and knowing when to push—or when to walk away.
Bars are just the lens. The lessons apply to anyone who’s started a business, thought about starting one, bought a building, managed people, taken on risk, or tried to design a life with more freedom and fewer illusions.
Bar Pod is thoughtful, practical, occasionally irreverent, and grounded in experience. If you care about building things in the real world—and doing it without pretending it’s easy—pull up a stool.

Never Just a Bartender
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A bartender is never just a bartender, and that is where the exhaustion starts. We talk through the real job behind the job: mixing and moving fast while also acting like a therapist, a bouncer, a janitor, a phone-charging help desk, and the person who somehow has to keep the whole room calm. If you have ever wondered why service industry burnout hits so hard, the answer is in the constant context-switching and the pressure to stay friendly no matter what the night throws at you.
We also get blunt about bartending school. We are not against learning, but most bars do not need flair tricks or a certificate. They need someone who can barback, stock, stay composed in the weeds, and learn the flow of a busy shift. From there, we get into what makes a bar actually feel welcoming, including why we think bar owners should sometimes have a drink at their own bar to experience lighting, music, layout, and pacing the same way guests do.
Then we take a sharp turn into modern life: parking lot beeps, e-bike safety, and why kids flying at 20 mph without helmets is starting to look like an emergency room pipeline. And yes, we address one of the strangest internet trends we have seen lately: “pheromone maxing”, including claims that some people are skipping deodorant and even drinking urine. We close with songs of the week and a mini-rant on lawns, landscaping, and the surprisingly useful backyard ecology that is fighting pests for you.

Cold Open Bar Banter
SPEAKER_04Camels don't spit on you, do they? Wait. Camels? What's this bush light thing? Someone asked for Oh, that was at uh that was at uh Volstead the other day. Some some woman was very annoying and she asked for a bush light and then she asked for a glass and a straw for her bush light. A glass and a straw? Yeah. Shoot your shot, I guess. You don't you don't do that. Shoot. Uh all right. Well let's get this thing on the road so we can get you out of here and do all the stuff. I mean, what are you you leaving for a vacation today? So, me? Yeah, you go into the Indians game tonight or something? No, I gotta pick the Guardian game.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Listen, nobody's more uh you realize every time, you know, every time I miss a shift, I don't like it. It's not that's a little money out of the old pocket. It's money out of the old pocket. Alrighty, let's get going. You just want all full ace venture on an alrighty then.
SPEAKER_04Alrighty then, let's get going with season three. Episode two.
SPEAKER_02We are rolling Ryan's in the bottom coming up.
SPEAKER_01This is how it is.
Lake Ontario And Tech Gripes
SPEAKER_04Hey, it is BarPod uh season three. Season three, episode two. Episode two. We're back on the two-week schedule. I like that. It's a content situation. We have some time to do that. Yeah, we're able to be able to create more. Um getting to a little news here quick. We're gonna run to the news part quick. Uh it's not Lake America, it's Lake Ontario. Uh we love our Canadian friends. Let's not encourage them to not travel to this part of the country. It's very important.
SPEAKER_05For us, that's especially important. Um, did you see uh do you remember MapQuest? Yeah. Oh, they're the number one download. I already downloaded it.
SPEAKER_04Me too. You can make all kinds of little ninja stuff. I love that. I love that.
SPEAKER_05MapQuest came out of nowhere.
SPEAKER_04And real quickly, uh Google, Apple. What what a bunch of pussies. Like, I don't outside of politics, why are they kissing ass to whoever? Like if it was a different, don't stop kissing ass. So let me the thing is the only way we can have any more stop spending money with these assholes is the only is the only way to do it. Because they're all, you know, a couple things like Steve, like you know, as I wear my Steve Jobs would be rolling well, me too, but Steve Jobs would be rolling to his grave. Talk about the antithesis of that 1984 marketing commercial, you know, what Apple used to be, what Apple used to signify.
SPEAKER_05Let me let me ask you a question. I I we don't have to talk about it a ton, but I've always thought that um the right are Republicans. I thought that was always kind of anti-establishment, right?
SPEAKER_04Like less government, um anti-Well, now now we just now we just buy companies and force them to what we want. That's called socialism, everybody. Right.
SPEAKER_05I think it's going the other way, right? I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, but it is. It's Lake Ontario. Lake Ontario.
SPEAKER_04That's it. Sorry to all of our friends in Canada who are listening because we do know that you're out there. We set track of things. We don't think that way. Please come and hang out. You're cool as shit. It's Lake Ontario.
SPEAKER_05It's Lake Ontario. Lake Ontario. At Paddle Bar. At Paddle Bar. It's Lake Ontario.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
SPEAKER_06Suck it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That was that was uh Tim Cook's last thing there. I guess it made it happen.
SPEAKER_05So Oh, he did?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. He's gone now, right? Yeah, he's gone. Yeah. What a dude. Tim Apple. Tim Apple sucks. It's funny. I like to like him.
SPEAKER_05Uh in other news. So let's get
Bartending Schools And Learning Fast
SPEAKER_05out of that. In other news, I called a llama, I called a um a llama a camel the other day on accident. We could talk about it later because I usually too tired. Yeah. I was just tired from the shift, and all of a sudden, uh, you know, I'm uh it was just being that uh dumb. Was it hump day? Uh no, it wasn't on a Wednesday. Okay, unfortunately. But you know, that we could talk about later because the the heavy toll that the uh uh heavy volume bartending shift exacts on your body and mind.
SPEAKER_04We'll talk a little bit about and we'll get to that of what the the different roles you play in one bartending shift beyond just being a bartender. Yeah, it's fun for many different things.
SPEAKER_05Anyway, that that contributed to me um calling a llama a camel. Camel uh has humps.
SPEAKER_04A llama does have humps, carries a lot of water. Carries a lot of water. Llamas spit the water. Right, right. Right. So that's um I'm getting a lot of bartending school ads in my TikTok out of the room all of a sudden. What do we think about bartending schools? I'm not getting started. I believe I believe you have a story of what you guys used to think over at uh Splash Bar when someone who came up and said, Hey guys, I'm a b I I graduated from mixology 101. It was startending school. Start tending. No, it wasn't.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. It's back when, and listen, I can appreciate it. Like you go to Huraz out in Vegas, those guys are nuts, right? They're throwing balls all over the place. It's a it's a whole different level. But it's when startending was a huge thing and they were teaching people how to how to flare bartending. Flare bartend. Yeah, we were like, okay, yeah, next. Next, don't I need you to serve drinks, not throwing.
SPEAKER_04I don't I don't think bartending schools are pretty much a a hoax. There's some fundamentals out there that maybe you can learn, but in the if for the most part, it's bar back, learn how to do that, go through the get in the weeds on a couple of Fridays, Saturdays nights, make your and get into it. Make your progressions. It's not hurrahs, it's haras. Yeah, I was gonna say that too. I would I was Oh, did I say hurrah?
SPEAKER_05Listen, I can't I can't talk. Listen, I'm calling llamas camels, I'm calling Hera's hurrahs. I don't know, dude. I'm done. Caesars. Send me home, Caesar's fellows. Let's did the did Caesar live here?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Hail, hail Caesar. Are you guys uh you guys uh uh pager friendly?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, beeper friendly. I'm not gonna say on my beep. There's a phone bank. There's a phone bank somewhere.
SPEAKER_04You still have audio there, bud?
unknownGot it.
SPEAKER_04We've been having some technical difficulties today.
SPEAKER_05Why'd you say, oh, did you see something? I heard a little weird weird thing there.
SPEAKER_04We're okay, everything's cool. Umright hurrah for this episode. Hurrah. So, okay. Consensus of bartending schools, for the most part, is what I'm thinking with the bottom. Bartends, you don't need it. You don't need it. Get a job at a bar, bar get back mileage, get some back, get a little mileage. It's all it's just like snow skiing. The more you do it, or golf or anything. Well, golf actually is the opposite. You can be playing good for uh you can be playing good for an entire year, and the next thing that that next year follows up and you just suck. You can be playing for 20 years and suck. Like it's that that I don't understand that too. Golf's tough.
SPEAKER_06You can segue into water skiing right there. Water skiing's uh similar as well.
SPEAKER_04Same deal. Yeah. Yep. Same deal. There
Guests Who Will Not Google
SPEAKER_04we go. Yeah. Um I got a call um that's been um not so much in the bartending world, but more in the uh noticed a lot of things with uh the lodging side of things. You know, we got the the uh the cedar uh hotel there, and um people need to figure out things on their own more and don't like automatically text the like I'm getting texts at like 1 a.m. Like, how many rooms do you have? It's like it's on the website. Like what how do you get through life?
SPEAKER_05Like we talked about this last episode, didn't we?
SPEAKER_04I guess it's still on my mind.
SPEAKER_05How problem solving has become a thing of the past.
SPEAKER_04And you know, I want to be nice, yeah. That's it. Learn how to problem solve on your own a little bit.
SPEAKER_05Can I I I just noticed something? Let me see you move to the number two pencil.
SPEAKER_04This is uh Oh, that's a carpentry pencil. That's a carpenter, yeah. Because I've been doing a lot of carpentry style work lately. Are you rolling around with a carpentry's pencil? I like to put it in my ear. I like that. Grab a toothpick, have a nice time. Okay. A little thicker. That's what you leave it the uh leave it out.
SPEAKER_05Uh that's incredible.
SPEAKER_04Uh so yeah, that's that. What else we got going on?
SPEAKER_05We're on the street as you had somebody ask for a bushlight and a glass with a straw.
SPEAKER_04Someone asked for a bushlight and they wanted a glass and a straw for it. I don't know what that's about. You ever had that, Giovanni? Someone asked for a bushlight with a nice straw.
unknownMiller light with ice.
SPEAKER_04Miller light with ice. Well, that's common. I've seen that.
SPEAKER_05That's I've seen that before.
SPEAKER_04People like the uh salt once in a while in their life. That's old school.
SPEAKER_05I dig that. That's old school. Old school. That's old school.
SPEAKER_04Hank used to do that. Yeah, it keeps the bubbles rolling. Yeah, that's right. Not a bad concept. Not a bad concept. There's some things. All right, Chad. What do you got?
High-Volume Shifts And Burnout
SPEAKER_04Let's get into the high volume bartending and the toll it takes on you.
SPEAKER_05So this is a nice segue. This is how why I originally um put the llama camel thing on the notes. Yeah. Because I was just full, full uh kind of uh situation why it happened. I was just dead tired for my Friday shift because it was busy. Yeah, yeah. Um, I was there late, and um I was just a zombie the next day.
SPEAKER_04Well, I think that you know, once I mean uh again, I'm getting all kinds of bar stuff on TikTok. Obviously, I look at our bar pod TikTok. So you would too if you start scrolling through there. It's all it's the same algorithm. I mean, we're just um but uh like think about the roles you play. You're a bartender, yeah. You're a decider. Yeah. You're a therapist. Yep. You are a uh you're an Apple specialist. Uh when you're Apple or other device specialists, when people are asking you to charge their phone and which sort of plug that you need. You're an energy solution specialist. You're an energy solution specialist, you're a garbage man. Hey, can you throw this away? Yeah, you're you're a janitor. You're a janitor. Can you throw this away? Can you throw this away? You're a janitor. What else we got? I mean, there's a lot that's five things right there that you're all doing while you're trying to manage the room.
SPEAKER_05Now, while you yeah, while you could say this about a lot of jobs, of course. I think bartending is I think it's has you wear more hats while you bartend thanks.
SPEAKER_04I think in general, I think that probably the restaurant in industry in general, that's why they say, you know, people that have been in the service industry, it's like one of the best attributes you can have moving forward, no matter what you do for a living. Um and also then you understand how to treat people, I think, a little better. Yeah. Um, I think that's important.
SPEAKER_05That's why you also got to watch out. You notice um it's I think it's it's a lot of the reason why you see so much burnout in this in in this industry, right? Yeah, yeah. You go into that bar or that or that restaurant, and you could tell that the person that's serving you is just gone. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? They're like you can tell they just hate it. That's why they call it Angry August. They call it Angry August, but you you know that burnout burnout happens because you're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_04Or it is sassy September. Is that what it is? No, I don't like that one. Definitely not. Angry August in a sassy September. That's only at hurrahs. Here we go. Yeah, listen, I'm just getting over local. Yeah,
Drinking At Your Own Bar
SPEAKER_04gonna do it. All right, here's one that I've heard uh that is we're getting into kind of the you know what people say, what people think about bars, and you know, before um we owned bars, and you know, we're going on north of 13 years at this point. Yeah. Long time owning taverns.
SPEAKER_00Long time.
SPEAKER_04Um everybody used to say, never drink at your own bar. I call bullshit. And here's why. I'm not advocating you go to be a raging alcoholic and a drunk guy sitting at the end of your bar. But for one thing, the people want to see you. That's part of the deal. Guests want to see you. But number two, you're never gonna experience your bar the way you probably should without a couple beverages in you. So you can see what the guest is seeing, so you can see what's missing, what you gotta do. I think it's very important to drink at your own bar.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I agree with you. I think I'm sure, I mean, I think the never drink at your own bar is probably alluding more to the never abuse alcohol at your own bar. Well, no, no.
SPEAKER_04There's some bar to there's some bar owners out there that have a strict rule. They will not have a beer at their own bar. No, that's crazy. I disagree with that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's crazy. Just don't get hammered drunk at your own bar.
SPEAKER_04And maybe even do that once in a while. Just don't be an ass.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, once in a while or a special occasion, but don't you don't want to you don't want to be the drunk guy at the end of the bar in your own bar.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no. No, not at all. You don't want to. But my point is you gotta have you gotta enjoy the bar for what it
Bar Vibes: Lights Music Layout
SPEAKER_04is. And uh and that's that.
SPEAKER_05Some of the coolest times, and you know, I don't get here um on the other side of the bar as much as you do, but when I do, uh especially in the summer when we brought the kids down here and we went to go see like a Thursday night concert on Jackson Street Pier, when I come in at night and the lights are on, they're dimmed perfectly. There it is. The glow from the lights outside. Lighting makes all the difference. It does. And so but so you're right. I get walk in, have a beer, and I get the feel that other people get that I don't always get. Right. And that's what you want to see.
SPEAKER_06A bar needs to be welcoming.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Welcoming. It's why music is so important. The kind of music is so important. Yep. And we'll we'll talk about that later. The layouts, all that.
SPEAKER_06That's a great place for a base of operations.
SPEAKER_04Well, I'll swear engine. I'll swear engine. Dead wood.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, so okay, so that's the uh don't drink your own bar thing. I I think, yeah, there's a there's room for it. Loose rundown. Still getting the bud light, the bushlight thing. We already talked about that. Yeah, we don't need that. Get that off of there. Yeah. Uh blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. What are we on to here?
SPEAKER_05I see you put Chipotle in here. I don't even know what it's about, but it's I feel like we talked about it every day right there. Ties back to Chipotle, online only talk.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. Yeah. I think we're on a different page here. Oh, we might be. Yeah, which drives me crazy. T dub throwing the beep at. Oh, you're flying. We're way past that. Whoa. You're skipping a lot. No, well, we didn't. Like we no, this bar, BS. What I think we're good. You can move on to the next picture.
Parking Lot Beeps And Aging Rants
SPEAKER_06Let me tell you what happened to me yesterday. It was kind of my fault, but not totally. Still, I'm at a drugstore waiting for waiting, waiting for your mother. She's inside. I do that all the time. Oh, yeah. Sure. And I I backed into the spot, and I I wasn't backed in all the way because I I I couldn't get the radio, I couldn't get LEC. Okay. I was listening to Guardians. So I was out a little far, true. But this little tiny car came in. Some lady. Gave me a beep. Whoa. I mean, you had plenty of room to turn in there. Don't beep. Then she got out of the car and did the old head shake.
SPEAKER_04Oh, she carryed you, huh? She carryed me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I got some serious flack on our last episode on TikTok for the parking, for the parking situation. Somebody really didn't like my comment about it.
SPEAKER_04I like I said, I looked that guy up and he sells women's perfume on his TikTok page, so I wouldn't go too. It might have been a bot. Might have been a bot. I'm sure his name was I don't know.
SPEAKER_06No, no. This wasn't a bot. It's kind of like, don't beep. This wasn't a bot. I wasn't totally innocent, but I mean, it's a big parking lot. Sure. Turn the little tiny beep beep bar rant.
SPEAKER_04Then she gets out and she's getting a little ranty here today, isn't it? It is getting a little ranty. We can be careful. We don't want this to become bar rant.
SPEAKER_05Well, naturally, naturally, as we get older, we're gonna rant more. That's the way
E-Bikes, Kids, Speed, And Rules
SPEAKER_05it goes.
SPEAKER_04Speaking of rants, let's talk about e-bikes.
SPEAKER_05Okay, okay, okay. Okay. I put this in the notes because I don't know if you guys have been paying attention, but people are getting absolutely smoked on this. They are getting lit up. And and it's tough because I have my e-bike. I have an e-bike that um Amber and I ride with the kids on it. Yeah. Okay. But dude, I don't even want to know what's going on in like the ER rooms across the ER um emergency rooms across the country. Because just around my house, thank goodness this this particular child is okay, but he got hit by a car on shrub road. Yeah, I heard about it. Right. Um, another kid down the street fell and broke his arm and clavicle. And this is just around my little neighborhood.
SPEAKER_04The stat I'm looking here is 41% of ER visits for e-bike injuries in 24-25 were kids between ages of 10 and 19. Dude, that's it all.
SPEAKER_05Listen, I like the e-bikes. I like um I like the one we have particularly that we can ride the kids around. But am I not mistaken here? When we were children, you could have a moped, but pooks. Pooks. Pooks. You could have a moped. TUCH, but TUCH. It was like Italian, wasn't it? Australian. Australian. You could have a moped, but you had to be 14 and you had to have a particular moped license to drive said mode of transportation. Right. I think we should probably bring that back. So but here's automatically though, here's what this is what's interesting about this topic, right? Everybody's gonna go, oh, don't tread on me. I don't need any I don't need any government intervention on my e-bikes.
SPEAKER_04Well, if you're 14, you probably do.
SPEAKER_05Ah Thank you.
SPEAKER_04I'm not saying that you're not as a matter of fact, I think My children will not have e-bikes until much later. There's class one, two, and three e-bikes, right? The threes are the fastest. But one's way too fast anyway. Right?
SPEAKER_05You can go 20, that's way too fast.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I saw a guy riding e-bikes 60 miles an hour the other day down Barrett Road. I was like, whether you get that thing.
SPEAKER_05Trust me, you you know because you're on 250. I'm you used to have one. But 20 is plenty fast enough to wreck yourself.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you go, I think there's a there's a there's a a certain speed where like if you wreck yourself, like it's where you're where you it becomes lethal because parts of your body extra blow apart abscond from the inside of your body.
SPEAKER_06Upscond.
SPEAKER_04Well, I here's here's here's my thought. I think you should make it 14. I think the uh however the don't tread on me folks that are that are would be against it are probably the same folks that um like uh Lake America. So I think we should give them a level 5 e-bike. Go enjoy yourself.
SPEAKER_05100 miles an hour, you don't need a license. Have a nice time.
SPEAKER_04Don't wear a helmet, don't wear any pads, treat yourself, dude.
SPEAKER_05But it's wild how we went from, and maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm I'm I'm uh a revisionist history type situation, but I feel like just not long ago, you couldn't people would kind of look down on you if your kid wasn't wearing a helmet while they were riding their bike. And now they're like, here, cool, have an e-bike, no helmet, go 25 miles an hour, enjoy yourself.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, here's the here's the thing that I worry about, and this is where I do understand the tone teradmi side of things a little bit. Like I I do think there should be some rules against you know kids flying. Because I see them fly out in the bike package. There needs to be a balance. Some poor old guy's be walking his dog and just get smoked. Um, but the we don't want to but the problem is then we tend to go too far, right? Agreed. Then we tend to go, like, oh, now you gotta wear a full body armor to that. So like I don't know the answer. Like, but like everything else, there needs to be balance.
SPEAKER_05Just like social media.
SPEAKER_06Do e-bikes have to stay on sidewalks, or can you ride them on the road?
SPEAKER_05I ride them on the road all the time. Technically, they're some they're supposed to go on the road on road and not on sidewalks. Oh that's how that's honestly that's I feel like riding on the sidewalks with them is more dangerous because you're mixing with the the the slower crowd of walking folks.
SPEAKER_06Do you have to get a license for a moped? Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Yes, yeah. E-bikes you don't. Correct. Interesting.
SPEAKER_05Listen. And I hate it because do I want to go get a license for my e-bikes? No. Well, I think it's no, I think it's after a certain age. It's if you have your driver's license, you don't you won't need to, right? Yeah, yeah. But like, um, listen. I'm seeing 10-year-old kids ride e-bikes just flying around. They're they're they're they're mocking, man. It's impressive. But yeah, it's impressive. I'm glad they're having fun, but man, it's fun until you get blow themselves right up.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. And let's not forget the exercise component to this. There is not much exercise.
SPEAKER_04There is no not like a standard. Hey, here comes McKenzie down though. Oh, she's rolling in live. We'll get in. Hey, McKenzie. Live on five.
SPEAKER_06McKenzie's in the house with food.
SPEAKER_04Remember her from season one, I believe, and I love her. Yeah, she spent a day behind here. One more thing on e-bikes, though. I I think, you know what? What? You boys want to go turn yourself into a greasy spot in the road. I don't care, and I don't think NASCAR does either.
SPEAKER_05That's a Days of Thunder project, by the way. They're gonna do another new Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise. Yeah, did you hear about this? No, I don't know. Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise. Oh, I'm in for that. Yeah. I want to go see that either. Dude, fully in. Are you kidding me? Now the only problem is what's his head? It's not gonna have Robert Duval. R.I.P. Oh man. Because he was probably the best character in that movie. Oh, without a doubt. Yeah. Harry Hogg. No. Harry Hogg? Harry Hog. That was his name. Harry Hogg. Yep. Such a good movie.
SPEAKER_06Chad, give us a line about the tires and the weight of the car. You do that so well. Oh, um, he said, he said half as wide.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. He said, out there when you were driving open wheel. Because he came from Indy, right? Yeah. Your car weighed half as much and your tires were twice as wide. Now you now you're driving driving NASCAR. He goes, car weighs twice as much and the tires are half as wide and you burn them up.
SPEAKER_04I feel like in the middle of that, I I heard a little bit of walking in there. I don't know what happened. A little clash between Robert Duvall and Christopher Walker.
SPEAKER_05My vibe's all off today. I don't know what I'm doing with that. I did have a little uh little, I think I had a 24-hour flu bug, man. That was brutal. That is, yeah. That's yeah. Yeah, I'm getting I'm still getting over it. I still have some cold or uh meds in me, too.
SPEAKER_04This is uh yeah.
Pheromone Maxing And Drinking Urine
SPEAKER_04Uh have you heard about this new so have you heard about pheromone maxing? Oh I automatically don't like it. I don't like it. So this is another one of these you know bro trends. Oh no. And uh so Gen Z guys, they're they're skipping showers and deodorant before dates and making sure they're sweaty because they think that's gonna put out pheromones to attract uh women. Oh no. But some of them are taking it to the next level. And you can look this up if you want on the temptation. Oh no. And this is this is it's been written about in Forbes and some other ready? Uh they're drinking their own pee.
SPEAKER_06No, yeah. No.
SPEAKER_04What? Uh they're drinking their own pee. You're serious? I'm serious. Part of pheromone maxing. They're drinking their own piss.
SPEAKER_05On ice or I don't know. In a martini? Like, let's talk about it.
SPEAKER_04Riping shots? That's where they're skipping showers and they're and they're drinking their own pee because they think that that's going to increase their pheromone. You know, I can get sick. Take a guess, but I bet that's something our Secretary of Defense does defense does.
SPEAKER_05Oh, RFK.
SPEAKER_04I bet no, not RFK. Oh no, hextaff. Oh, Secretary of GFK. Oh, P.
SPEAKER_05I bet he pheromone maxes. He probably does drink his own pizza.
SPEAKER_07Higstaff.
SPEAKER_05That's that you're not joking. Yeah, I'm not joking, dude. Look it up. People are drinking their own urine. Look it up. Um, there's not much to say. Yeah. No, I okay. Real quick, you said the first part of it when you said they're not wearing deodorant, not showering. I remember the first time I've ever heard anything about that was um McConaughey's that guy. I remember doing an interview about saying he doesn't wear deodorant.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I think his wasn't more about pheromones. His was more about not putting chemies in your body.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and he said, My body smells good the way it is.
SPEAKER_04I I don't agree with that. I think there's, you know, you got you're not gonna get women if you uh partner in any way without you know having some goddamn self-care.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you gotta don't wipe your butt either after.
SPEAKER_05I mean oh well just dingleberries abound.
SPEAKER_04Get a bidet. Uh highly recommended.
SPEAKER_06I've heard Dingleberries.
SPEAKER_05Um I can't okay, hold on. Hold on. People are drinking their own fists.
SPEAKER_04That's what I'm telling you to drink their own pests. Um I'm sure it's uh only a few, but I don't know. You never know what's going on these days.
SPEAKER_05There's a new this reminds me of something I saw last week. So Ninja and Shark. And I like the taste. And I like the taste because that's uh dodgeball. Dodgeball very Um it's sterile and I like the taste. I like the taste. Uh do you shark and ninja, the brands went to the house? Oh, like coffee in that? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They went together. I have a ninja coffee maker. Yeah. I went, they went together.
SPEAKER_04Kenzie, don't we have a ninja coffee maker?
SPEAKER_05No, a shark. Shook her head, no. Shark. She says no. No. It's none of those. Not sure what you're talking about, but clearly you don't make much coffee. I make coffee all the time. All right. She's like, no. They came out with last week, people are freaking out about it. Tom Brady endorsed it. I think he's like a he's like probably on their payroll. But um it's they came out with a $200 reverse osmosis system that's tabletop. Okay. Because everybody's about drinking clean water these days and blah blah. Um, but it's like it it even Oasis, this brand I follow, this company that um um basically it's a health grading system, they graded it like very well because it take takes out like 99.5% of contaminants and all this other stuff right away, right? So this is this new product that people are talking about reviewing right away. Multiple people are saying, What's stopping you from pissing into this thing? And and letting it take all the contaminants out and just doing a self-loop, a closed loop system. Closed loop system.
SPEAKER_06This truly is an educational program.
SPEAKER_05It is, it is. So you might have to call this one the golden shower. That immediately made me think of that. Um, because I wanted one of those. I think it'd be cool. Because right now I just got the old school Brita in there. Yeah. Nobody's pissing in their Brita and then letting it get all cold. I hope not. Or is there, uh don't piss in your Brita. Don't piss in your Brita.
SPEAKER_04Uh pheromone maxing. So that was pheromone maxing. With a pH. I don't think that's a good idea. I think that's disgusting. You're gonna end up playing more video games.
SPEAKER_05Well, you're gonna end up getting sick drinking your own urine, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I would assume.
SPEAKER_05I would think.
SPEAKER_04I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Maybe I'm wrong.
SPEAKER_04Maybe I'm I no, I don't think you are. I don't think you're wrong. I don't think you're I think you're correct. I think we can move on from the uh gastral intentional.
SPEAKER_05I've not seen that yet.
SPEAKER_04The pheromone accents wild. Hey, you had some stuff about uh music, songs of the week.
Songs Of The Week Playlist
SPEAKER_05I liked we we introduced it at the beginning of season two, we never got back to it. Okay, um, but we love to talk about how important music is in the bar industry for vibes and whatnot. Well, no doubt. Um and I thought we could bring that back. Maybe since especially since we're only doing one episode every two weeks.
SPEAKER_04Well, we like to keep the music here pretty laid back. My opinion is it also keeps the vibe down, people enjoy themselves, they're less, you know, we're already like all the time, you know, with your social media and highly acidic wall street. Yeah, but like everything's it's all it's all above the head, above the shoulder above the shoulder shit. Above the shoulder shit. Yeah. Uh so people are moving fast all the time, and there are some studies that say people will drink faster if the music's faster and all that. I I like the idea of more laid back, people will chill, they'll be able to do that. Make your own decision on your battery. A bar is a place, in my opinion, yeah, to relax, not get more stressed. So I like slower music.
SPEAKER_05Same, same. So, so uh in this in this situation, I want I thought we could just every two weeks say, you know, come up or or say a song that you've been listening to maybe multiple times. Okay. Mine was, I heard one the other day last week that I been for completely forgot about. And it's from, I believe it was 1999. You remember you remember Blur? Yeah, but that was Song Two was that was intense. That was like woo-hoo! That was song two. Coffee and TV is the uh is the song I listened to. I don't know that one. Oh, dude. Fantastic. So if you're out there and uh you know want to listen to a song that you haven't heard in a long time, Coffee and TV. Coffee by Blur. It's it's it's along what you're talking about. Mellow.
SPEAKER_06Okay, can I have one? Yeah, Lakeshore Drive.
SPEAKER_05Lakeshore Drive. That's a good feel song. Iliata Hones and Jeremiah.
SPEAKER_04Uh huh. Very nice. I love that. Talking about Lakeshore Drive in Chicago. I think they're talking about doing some acid and rolling around. Exactly. The whole song's about doing some acid and driving around like. I think it was a double entendre, right?
SPEAKER_06It is double entendre.
SPEAKER_04That's a nice time. Um I'm gonna go with one that actually goes exactly with, I've listened to a lot, goes right to bars. What do you got? Uh Feeling Good Again by Robert Earl Keene.
SPEAKER_07Ooh.
SPEAKER_04Is all about. He talks about the the the the the uh the neon, the sign bringing them in and seeing his old buddies and finding fifty bucks in his pocket and buying some more beers. Uh so that's a good feel. So look that one up.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so see there you go. So three songs on your radar right there. On your radar.
SPEAKER_04Um So give me coffee and tea. I got one more little little little rant that I don't like things I don't like.
Lawns, Landscaping, And Backyard Bugs
SPEAKER_04Mowing lawns. Now, granted, we got some we got some friends out there that make make money doing that, so I don't want to distract them, but I hate I hate mowing lawns.
SPEAKER_05Well, which is why they make money.
SPEAKER_04I hate it. I hate it. They it was invented in the 1600s to show you how much uh how much land you uh didn't need to grow food on it to show that you were uh you know you were wealthy. That's the thing about lawns.
SPEAKER_05A rant about how much lawn care sucks actually promotes the people that we like that cut lawns for a living.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Because that's why they make a living for the floor. I'm glad you do hate it. Because I hate it. Yeah. Uh yesterday, Amber mowed the lawn for me. That's typically my job. I like to mow the lawns. That's nice. Well, I was not feeling great. Yeah. And I was afraid going out into the 105-degree weather would put me down. Put you talk. You know, call it. Right away, I noticed that she you know didn't cut it short where I like it.
SPEAKER_04Fun fact about lawns 49,000 square miles in the United States of lawns, which is more irrigated acreage than any crop. Wow.
SPEAKER_06It's not irrigate.
SPEAKER_04Uh no, I don't irrigate my yard, but we should probably have more food growing than we have grass. Unless we're talking about grass you can smoke.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's a whole nother thing. I got a question for you. Somebody's got to look this up. Or if we can't find the answer, we'll look it up next time. Why do we have grass in our yards?
SPEAKER_04It's to show off. That's what was originally done. Oh, that's what it was. The idea was that it was to show you how much it was like, you know, it's like having a nice car or something like it. That it was your neighbors in the like 30s or what? We're talking in the 1600, 1700s. It's that goes far far back. It goes that far back. Yeah, yeah. Holy I believe it was the French.
SPEAKER_05You know what I like? I I tell you what. I like I like how in southern Florida everybody just does rocks.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I like that. Yeah, I liked in Colorado, uh, it was all kind of natural grass and things. Uh, you know.
SPEAKER_06That's how our lawn is now. It's the weeds have taken over. I'm okay with it.
SPEAKER_04I am more a fan of really nice landscaping than I am grass. Like our landscaping out at Teeks is just amazing. Yes. Yeah, that would be the boys at Turf Rehab did that one. And they, that's that's their bailiwick is uh that's right down the street from they. Their landscaping's awesome. I love it. So that's I like the feel of a good landscape. And matter of fact, um, we see a lot of monarch butterflies hanging out there, a lot of uh pollinators are going through their idic stuff, natural stuff. What's happening? Uh-oh, what? No, nothing. I I I'm just I'm just saying, uh oh, for some for no reason. Uh you just I got a I got a weird fact I learned. You know those uh lantern flies? Oh yeah. That uh you're supposed to kill if you see them? So it turns out preliminary studies. Uh-oh. Um milkweed kills them. Milkweed. And milkweed is really good for monarch butterflies. So if you plant milkweed, we have some milkweed in our yard, as a matter of fact, it'll attract monarchs, but those red lantern fuckers will eat them and then just drop right dead. You know what I saw this morning actually.
SPEAKER_05Much like the e-bug over at over at their house. Have you ever seen have you know what a wheel bug is? It's crazy. It's called a wheel bug. It's a gray bug. They probably get they get big. Oh, yeah. They get like this big. Yeah. It's got a big uh half of a wheel, like with horns on the back. Yeah. They're called assassin bugs, that's their nickname. Yeah. Dude, one at their house just absolutely ninjaded a lantern fly. Dude. You watch it take out a lantern.
SPEAKER_04Oh, dude, it's in the middle of eating it. Oh, so there is some uh enemies to that. Yeah. Oh, that's good. That's a good sign.
SPEAKER_06Now, when you're talking about milkweed, when you grow it, right? Do you go with a 2% or the whole? Would you stop?
SPEAKER_05Oh, would you just stop? It's skim. Everyone knows milkweed is skim. She's not, isn't it funny how uninterested is McKenzie is in our box?
SPEAKER_04She called and hey, I'm gonna come and watch barpet and have a little audience. And it's we're actually pretty bad at this, Jad, because here's what I'm seeing. What? Mackenzie's over there just on her phone having a snack. Well, Devonny's up there just on his phone having a snack.
SPEAKER_05Gio's gotten used to hearing he's gotten you. Gino's got to hear that.
SPEAKER_04We are not good at this, I don't think. No, he's gotten used to hearing though he puts it. All right, it's
Beer Trivia And Sign-Off
SPEAKER_04trivia time.
SPEAKER_06Okay, what you got? Uh talking about beers. What old beer was the one beer to have when you're having more than one?
SPEAKER_05POC. No, I don't know. Stro's. No. PBR.
SPEAKER_06Nope. Uh when you're having more than one. Yeah, I could even sing the song. Sing it. Black label? No, that's a Mabel. You're getting close, so it's uh it's a dad beer. It's a dad beer? Yeah. I don't know any of that. Schlitz. You're almost there. Dude, come on. That's Schmitz? No.
SPEAKER_05Shams? No. Oh, oh, oh, what's the other one? You know, it's not Schlitz. It's uh No, no, it starts with an S, doesn't it? Yes. Uh uh.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_05Schlitz. No. Schmeagel?
SPEAKER_06Ready? No. Just say it. Schmitz. Schmitz. Schmitz is the one beard. Have when you're only. I didn't think that Schmitz was the beer. Yeah, Schmitz. That's not what I was thinking. Not to be confused with Saturday Night Lions. Right, right. Right, right. But Schmitz. Schmitz is the beer I wanted to have when you have.
SPEAKER_05I didn't even know that was a thing. I didn't remember that beer. Schmitz, huh?
SPEAKER_06Look it up.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Look it up.
SPEAKER_06All right. Yeah. Well. Oh, wait. Or is it pass?
SPEAKER_05Oh boy. It's Schmitz.
SPEAKER_04I'm just checking on this because I can see how this goes.
SPEAKER_05Well, I think the highlight of today's podcast was uh um probably the piss. People drinking their own beer. I don't know if that's a highlight.
SPEAKER_04That's a highlight.
SPEAKER_05For it's an electrolyte. Nice. It's an electrolyte. I can't believe that's a thing. I really can't believe it.
SPEAKER_04It's getting weird out there, everybody. Brought up fake breweries. Fake breweries. All right, let's get out of here. All right, we're out of here. See you in two weeks. Later.
SPEAKER_01This is now with the let's go.
SPEAKER_00Let's go.
