Welcome to the Daily Catholic Deep Dive. We're here to connect the dots between the Bible, the Catechism, and your daily life. Every day we go over the daily Mass readings, Father Mike Schmitz's Bible in a year, and Catechism in a year, plus other popular Catholic podcasts and videos released today we find interesting. If you feel a bit overwhelmed by all the daily Catholic listening, don't worry. We are here to find that one golden thread that ties it all together. Let's dive in. Today is March 17th, 2026. Today we are looking at a divine assassination. Like when God turned the Nile River to blood in Exodus, he wasn't just performing some clashy magic trick to scare Pharaoh. He was literally executing an Egyptian demon goddess.

SPEAKER_01

A divine assassination. Wow, that sounds super intense. But that concept of um targeted spiritual warfare is really the invisible thread connecting everything on our menu today. So we're pulling from the Daily Mass Readings, day 76 of Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year, a really brilliant reflection from Dr. Tim Gray, a new video from Apologist Joe, and well, since it is March 17th, the true history of St. Patrick.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Happy St. Patrick's Day, by the way.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks. Same to you.

SPEAKER_00

So to understand how all this connects, for you listening, think of spiritual idolatry like um a malicious computer virus.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's a good way to look at it.

SPEAKER_00

Right. It runs quietly in the background of your life, draining your battery and corrupting your files until your system just crashes. And you can plug into a charger all you want, but until you wipe the hard drive, it's never going to work right.

SPEAKER_01

Totally useless. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And the Old Testament Mass reading today gives us that ultimate spiritual charger. Ezekiel chapter 47, verses 1 through 9, and verse 12 describes this bizarre, incredible image of life-giving water flowing straight out from beneath the temple.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, turning the salt waters fresh wherever it goes. And we see the ultimate fulfillment of that ancient vision in today's gospel from John chapter 5, verses 1 to 16.

SPEAKER_00

Where Jesus heals the paralyzed man.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly, at the pool of Bethesda. And Dr. Tim Gray points out something so profound here. He says Jesus himself is the new temple.

SPEAKER_00

Oh wow. So he's the literal source of the water.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. By healing this man, Jesus proves his Holy Spirit is that living water Ezekiel saw. It's like the ultimate operating system update that brings total restoration.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but here's where I get hung up a bit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

If we have access to this amazing living water, why is the process of getting rid of the virus so incredibly harsh? Like looking at day 76 of Bible in a year, Father Mike covers Numbers chapter 31 and Deuteronomy chapter 30.

SPEAKER_01

Right, the Midianites.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. God commands Israel to fiercely and entirely purge the Midianites. That sounds like a divine overreaction to modern years. Why couldn't they just, you know, coexist?

SPEAKER_01

Well, because the Israelites were highly susceptible to the Midianites' idolatry. Coexistence just wasn't an option because the virus was already destroying them from the inside out.

SPEAKER_00

They didn't have the spiritual antibodies yet.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. God knew that to save his people, the source of the infection had to be wiped out completely.

SPEAKER_00

Which brings us back to that divine assassination from Apologist Joe's new video.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, the Nile turning to blood.

SPEAKER_00

Right. So God was targeting Sikhmet, an Egyptian goddess who literally had a myth about wading through human blood. God took their life-giving river and turned it into the symbol of their own demonic idol.

SPEAKER_01

Because God is showing them, and us really, that these aren't just cute cultural myths, they are actual real spiritual forces that keep humanity paralyzed.

SPEAKER_00

And this exact same warfare didn't end in the Old Testament either.

SPEAKER_01

No, definitely not.

SPEAKER_00

Since it's St. Patrick's Day, we have to talk about how he faced down the Druids in 5th century Ireland. The stories say he conquered their dark pagan magic using the Eucharist. But how does that actually work? I mean, did he just hold up the host like a physical shield?

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's much deeper than that. By consuming the Eucharist, Patrick essentially became a walking tabernacle.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I love that image.

SPEAKER_01

Right. He was physically carrying the living presence of Christ, that living water from the temple, directly into a place of demonic darkness. The druid's magic was all rooted in fear and manipulation.

SPEAKER_00

But the Eucharist is different.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. It is the physical reality of God's self-emptying love. Darkness literally cannot occupy the same space as that light.

SPEAKER_00

That perfectly explains the lesson in day 76 of Catechism in a Year.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, Jesus in the desert.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Father Mike highlights how Jesus conquers Satan there, not with a show of worldly political force, but through total radical obedience to the Father.

SPEAKER_01

Let's break down why that works. Think about Satan's original sin, and Adam's for that matter.

SPEAKER_00

Pride.

SPEAKER_01

Pride and rebellion. So obedience is the literal, exact antidote to pride. By being radically obedient, Jesus reverses the very mechanism of the fall. He performs the factory reset that wipes out the virus of rebellion.

SPEAKER_00

So the golden thread today is super clear. True spiritual healing requires destroying the idols in your life through radical obedience to Christ.

SPEAKER_01

Which leaves you with a really critical question.

SPEAKER_00

And boy, here comes.

SPEAKER_01

What Midianite or Egyptian idols are you currently tolerating in your life? What background viruses are quietly draining your spiritual battery and pulling your heart away from God?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it's time to run the factory reset.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely. And as you prepare to do that, consider this. When you receive the Eucharist, you aren't just taking in a nice symbol. Definitely not. You are ingesting the exact same divine power that executed the gods of Egypt and shattered the dark magic of the Druids. Keep that in mind the next time you approach the altar.
