The rain means different things to many of us - Let it be a reminder to be content in any circumstance
Philippians 4:11-13
This little light of mine. I'm gonna let it shine. Welcome to Shine. I'm your host, Nicole Florence. And if you notice, uh there's a little bit different sound this morning. Yes, it's raining. Just wanted to give you a moment to hear that. And today my thankful thought is that reminder of being content. As I listened to the rain this morning and there was some thunder or there was some lightning, I thought about the rain itself and what it may mean to different people today. For my farmers, this might be a glorious day, right? They need some rain, they need the soil to be enriched, for that ground to truly nourish the seeds that have been planted. For those who may be traveling in a you know plane or car, this might be a little stressful. Nobody likes to fly in a storm. The turbulence, it can be scary, or even driving on the highway. That might not be, you know, a calm trip for whatever reason. I think about my yes, my grandson, who is two and a half, has a soccer game tonight. It's actually quite adorable. But, you know, he might be a little disappointed that he can't play. I think about the rain that might cancel somebody's plans that they may be excited about. They might say, man, I didn't want to go to that outdoor party anyway, or I didn't want to have to leave my house tonight. It's been a long week, right? All this stuff that a simple rain or thunderstorm can mean to different people. And it reminded me of how no matter what the rain or the thunderstorm may be for us, we have to learn to be content in that circumstance. Because let's face it, it's just rain. It's the same for everyone, even though we can have different consequences and different meaning. It reminds me of uh Philippians chapter 4, where we have to learn to be content of where we are day by day, that no matter what the circumstances may bring, we have to learn that through God's uh providence, through his sovereignty, that that is where we are supposed to be, and no matter what the consequence, we are going to be okay, and there is going to be good that comes out of it. Which I know can be difficult for many of us who have maybe learned the pattern of discontent, of fear, of anxiety, which really can rob us of the peace and the comfort that the spirit is supposed to bring us. So I challenge you on days or mornings of rain and a thunderstorm, or mornings of a beautiful sunrise with the hummingbirds and the birds chirping, to remind yourself that no matter what the day may be, no matter what the day may start with, those circumstances cannot change the peace and the comfort that the Spirit gives you. So I'm gonna leave you with Philippians 4. Um I'm gonna start with uh verse 11. I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstance I find myself. I know both how to make do with little and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being content, whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need, I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. So I pray that no matter what this day brings for you, if you are sitting in a thunderstorm or rain or a beautiful sunrise and your birds, that you are peaceful and you are content with the spirit that is with you and guides you. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
