This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Hello and welcome to Shine. I'm your host, Nicole Florence, and this week we're talking a little bit about the importance of taking the pause. Yesterday, of course, in Proverbs we have been, you know, taught that we need to take a pause before we speak, that our words can be incredibly powerful, and it's important to make sure that we think before we speak. In the same way, we need to take a pause and think before we act. And again, you know, we have this kind of culture in society that it's important to be first, right? It's important to be the first one to do something, it's important to be the first one to fix something. Um it's important for us to be in control. Um, you know, if you're anything like me, and you know, as I've said, I'm a Martha, I will hear of something that needs to be tended to, and probably before the person has even finished the words from their mouth, I've already started to fix it. Or we tend to be the one that it's important for us to be in control of how we um fix something or complete a project or do something, and maybe not take that pause where it's not done in the way that it should be, right? We get too overzealous and and quick just to complete it instead of doing it in the way it should be done, but also we tend to want to look like we are the ones in control and to control the narrative. One of the probably greatest things of advice that a therapist told me once, especially when um parenting my adult kids, because you know, they come to me, mommy, hey, I I need help, I need you to fix this. And many times as a parent, you know, that's what you want to do. Um but this therapist said to me, you have to create a long enough pause and a large enough space to allow the spirit to do the work for you. And I feel like that's very important in everything that we do, that too often we forget that we are not necessarily the ones in control and that reflexive, reactive way that I may act or do may not necessarily be, you know, in alignment with his way or my purpose, that often taking that pause will allow me to move within the path and purpose that has been set before me. And that can be hard to do. Um I know often someone will ask me, well, you know, what have you done about that yet? And I'll say, you know, I'm still percolating. Um, you know, there's time. I'm still considering my options and ways to do it. You know, it doesn't always have to be done so urgently or right away, but again, I think that's part of why our culture can be deceiving and want us to quickly react with our human nature. Um, you know, what's that movie, you know, Ricky Bobby, if you ain't first you're last, and we sometimes feel um a little pressure to overreact and act too quickly instead of really taking that pause and acting in alignment with the spirit. And I have to take it back to Proverbs. Uh Proverbs chapter 13, verse 16. Wise people think before they act. Right? I'm gonna say that one more time. Wise people think before they act, fools don't, and even brag about their foolishness. And if you think about the world we live in today, how apropos that is, when we see many people who uh do things that they should not have done that have been um hurtful to themselves or others, and a lot of times when they're asked about it, and then they'll be asked, what were you thinking? And many times they say, you know, I wasn't. So I hope that wherever um you are brought today and tomorrow in this world, whatever is presented to you, that you're able to take the pause, that you're able to percolate and not react too hastily, to make sure that your actions are done with wisdom and in alignment with his way and his purpose for you. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
