In this episode of The Power of X, the team dives into Cellular Nutrition Analysis (CNA) and why understanding your body at the cellular level is the key to real, lasting results. Instead of relying on generic supplement advice or trending health hacks, this conversation breaks down how testing reveals exactly what your body is deficient in, and how to fix it with precision.
They unpack the major flaws in traditional approaches like blood serum testing, explain how cellular testing provides a 6-month snapshot of your true nutrient status, and highlight why most people are unknowingly operating with deficiencies that impact energy, recovery, mood, and performance.
The episode also explores:
- Why guessing on supplements wastes money (and can backfire)
- How nutrient deficiencies affect muscle growth, fat loss, and hormones
- The truth about GLP-1 weight loss drugs and hidden risks
- Why whole foods + targeted supplementation outperform “quick fixes”
- How awareness of your biology instantly improves habits and decision-making
If you’re tired of trying new diets, supplements, or protocols without results, this episode shows you how to build a custom blueprint based on your biology, not guesswork.

What's up guys? Welcome back to the Power of X, where we stop guessing, we start testing and uncover your true X factor. So uh last week we spoke about food sensitivity and um finding out what foods are inflammatory to your body. Um and as as we hinted last week, we're leading into CNA, so cellular nutrition, and really finding out what we are actually deficient in, and then how to um how to get back to par with those levels. So, Joe, tell me about your experience with CNA and um how you've seen it transform people's lives.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so as a trainer for quite, I mean, quite a while now, long time, I would I would take a step back and say, okay, when people would ask me, because it always comes up supplements, what should I be taking, right? You know, they read up on things, they see a you know, they see an advertisement, uh, this this particular supplement sounds great, it fixes all their problems. So people would always message me like, so what should I be taking? And I used to give the answer of, like most trainers would, I'm very guilty of it. Um you know, they'd say stuff like, well, you know, unless you live on the equator, you're probably low in vitamin D, which is somewhat of a true statement. Um, they'd say stuff like, you know, well, our food is depleted because of the soil. So we're, you know, we probably need some, right, some, you know, some minerals and nutrients that, you know, even our vegetables aren't quite as dense as they used to be. So we probably need a good high potency multivitamin. These are things that we would say. Uh, because no, you know, no multivitamin advertises as low potency, right? They uh we always say high potency, right? You know, it's just all these little buzzwords. A high potency.
SPEAKER_02You mean the average bottle, please?
SPEAKER_04Right, right. You know, you need a very, very mediocre um right multivitamin, right? We have the one for you. Like nobody uses these words. So I would say things like this because yes, it does make sense, but in all reality, what I was saying is I don't know. You know, and nobody would just come out and say, I don't know what you should take. You know, so finally, like in my business today, my answer is I don't know, but we can run a test to find out, you know, and that's versus me just throwing a bunch of guesses out there. I can I can just say, well, if you really want to know, we can find out. So then it's then it's it's really up to the individuals. Well, do you really want to know or not? You know, or is this just a question that you just want any answer to? And when it comes down to our health and what we put on our body, I mean, for the most part, yeah, some people just don't care. They just want ABC company. But again, if you really want to know, let's just find out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, Joe, you you talk about, you know, if you really want to know, and I think that's part of the the question here and part of the answer, is there are some people you know that you've trained people who just give me the give me the pill, just give me the easy button. And and in part, I think as you were describing that, I could envision some people that they really just want the easy button. And and they will receive somewhat of a placebo effect if, well, Joel told Joe told me to take vitamin D and do this much protein and this and this and this. And so I'm just gonna do that and and I'm gonna be good. And I think there is a an element of people out there, but this test, this test is for the person who really is interested in feeling better and really getting to the core of their nutrition for their wellness. Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. You know, and that's and that's the thing with this test, and scientifically, like there are there are different ways of even checking these levels. Like, um, I've ran tests on people, and it says that their vitamin D is fine. And they say, Well, I was at my doctor's two weeks ago, and they said I was low. Like, what's right, why is this contradicting? Is this accurate? I go, no, this is far more accurate than what your doctor did. Because for the most part, there's there's there's there's um cellular tests, which is what we do, and then there's blood serum tests. Blood serum tests are checking your levels that are floating around your blood at that moment. Now, what that means is, you know, this could be your vitamin D levels over the last few days, up to maybe a week, versus a cellular nutrition test. What we use actually tests a lymphocyte. Again, just like last week, we went back to eighth-grade biology, we're doing it again. Uh, but this tests lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are within the cell, they extract a lymphocyte, and then they look at each individual item out there: magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, all these, all these different uh right, vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and amino acids, everything that's going to be tested, and they say, okay, they extract a lymphocyte, they add vitamin D to it, they add vitamin C to it, and they see how the cell responds in terms of whether or not there's increased cellular activity. The more there's an increased cellular activity, the more and more insufficient or low that it was in that particular vitamin or mineral. And if there's no change, it meant it had enough. It had it had sufficient amounts. So it is in and and this looks at roughly about a six-month time frame. So it's a saturation level on a cellular side that is gonna look at each individual ingredient. So looking at a blood serum test, I I mean, and you can chat GPT this and Google this all day long, and it's gonna confirm everything I just said. It is it is not an incredibly accurate example if if comparing a blood serum test. I mean, that could literally be you know affected by your diet or right, your sun exposure of that week, basically.
SPEAKER_02Where or I just took my vitamin D because I'm going to the doctor.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. You know, clients ask, and it's a and it's a great question. When they go in and do their blood work, they will ask me, do I need to do this fasted? Do I, you know, because this is what we've always been told, because they want an accurate serum level. It doesn't matter if you haven't eaten in 24 hours, what your average is over the last six months is not going to matter whether or not you go in fasted or not. It's literally irrelevant. They're testing average levels of really what is inside of the cell. There is no reason to fast or anything like that because it is a super accurate reading.
SPEAKER_02Well, it it really is, you know, it's kind of the science geek in us, right? Uh Joe, you and I both kind of geek out on this stuff, and and that's kind of fun. But it it is, uh, I remember when I first when she first told me that, our dietitian, and and it, it was just a confirmation for me that this test was going much further than what you you get at a regular doctor's visit. And that was a little bit alarming, but also it reinforced this is the right test to get truly to understanding my current level of nutrition.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yep. Well, because there's even other tests, even with the sensitivity, that are like hair samples and stuff. Like these are residue samples, not blood sample. You know, so again, these are incredibly accurate readings.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04As accurate as you can pretty much get.
SPEAKER_02We just talked to somebody uh not too long ago that that was referencing a hair sample test. I think it was Joe, you and I talking to a uh prospective uh coach coming on, and talk for just a moment about the difference and and why somebody might you know be tempted to get the you know $149.99 test on Amazon for the hair sample versus this test.
SPEAKER_04You just said it. There's $149.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04But you know, because I mean obviously price, I mean, price is there, right? Um people do want to pay as little as possible and get the same information. But if they're looking at a hair sample, again, it's residue. It is not an active immune response. It is based, you know, it's so it's a it's a uh it's a highly rear rear view mirror approach. Like no one's gonna drive to work looking in the rear view mirror and you know wonder why they're you know why they're frustrated every day, um, versus a blood sample of testing your actual neutrophil, which is how your body immediately responds from an immune response. Um you know, because I mean they're because they're definitely going to contradict if you're looking at active cells, live cultures versus residue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Let's bring Megan into the conversation. Hi, Megan. So Megan, I you've had some clients go through the CNA and in I'd I'm interested to hear, um, not that that Joe doesn't, but I know that you work with some some ladies, uh, maybe uh premenopause, perimenopause. I I'm curious as to the the viewer that that listener that might be tuning in that that has some of those things going on in life. You know, a woman's body changes so dramatically through life. I'm just curious what your experience has been with the CNA. Has that helped? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh, no, absolutely. Um, many times too with women, they always equate um muscle and everything just with hormones, but there's a lot of things as far as like aminos that you could be deficient in that would keep you from putting on muscle. And we have seen a lot of those. So the customized supplements that go along with it, I have seen some great changes just from people finding out what they're insufficient in and then us supplementing it properly for them to feel better, and not only that, but now they're actually getting results that they were not getting results with in the first place, you know. Because if you're deficient in leucine and you don't have enough of that, even if you have a great amount of testosterone in your body for a woman, which if you're in your 40s, I could promise you you do not. But even if you did have an adequate amount and you're insufficient in that, that is going to keep you from having gains. And not only, yeah. So I mean, Joe can even agree with that, but there's many other things just as far as like your gut health. Um, many women I notice they deal a lot with bloating. So um, if you're insufficient in certain things, that is going to affect your gut health, which is going to limit the progress that you get. Even if you are making progress and you feel bloated, you're not feeling like you're getting those gains that you've been working for in the gym.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean, I mean, that's the thing. I mean, if you look at cellular nutrition, again, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, nutrients, those run our lives. Literally, they run our lives. Those are what run hormones. You know, if I go look at a hormone panel, but I'm not looking at a nutrient deficiency insufficiencies, they don't fix the root cause. Because if I take two people and let's say I don't I don't know the person and I don't know any of their problems, and I'm looking at two people's results side by side, one person's incredibly deficient in vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and amino acids, and the other person is good. I could, I mean, I could take a snapshot of a guess of how their life is working out on a daily basis, and I'd be pretty darn accurate.
SPEAKER_00Well, and let's just face it, if you have any insufficience, that's gonna affect your energy overall. And when you don't have energy, it affects your mood, it affects, I mean, a lot of times I have seen it actually greatly help with people who have depression. Yeah, you know, and they don't have the motivation to even do the workouts just because of where they're at. And I mean, brain fog, you know, especially with perimenopause, brain fog is a huge thing that comes into play with that. And so when you're sufficiently, you know, you're adequately have the amount of vitamins in your body, you feel so much more clear-minded, and it helps greatly just with your mood. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And and one of the one of the things that, you know, I don't want listeners thinking is is this a supplement podcast? Right. I mean, we all, you know, we all stand on this. Like vitamins, minerals, aminos, and nutrients are also in food. Crazy concept, you know, like we can look at it and say, look, what are the foods that are high in magnesium? What are the food, right? We we do want to take a nutrient approach first from a from a from a whole foods standpoint and say, how can we go correct this with foods? And then what we can't do, now let's start looking at some supplements. So, yeah, so I mean, one of the things, you know, we're very, very big on is just supplements are always at the forefront of what can I do, you're right, what can I just pop in my mouth and swallow and go fix my day, you know, and it's and it's it's it's it's a supplement, a supplement, a supplement, a supplement, a supplement. And it's like there's foods that have magnesium, there's foods that have zinc, there's foods that have all these, you know, I mean, especially amino acids, right? Um, you know, not to dive into it, but you know, uh Megan was talking about leucine. If you're low in leucine, you're never going to have adequate muscle gains. I mean, it's just it is it is fully required. It is a must. It's not suggested, it is a full requirement for muscle protein synthesis to occur. What is muscle protein synthesis? Not diving into it, but it is the entire start of new muscle tissue being rebuilt. It can't happen if we're deficient in leucine. Again, not maybe possibly won't happen. It can't. It cannot happen. You know, so right, so we dive into that, and then we can start looking at from a coaching standpoint, really truly using the word custom. Custom is an overused word all the time. Every coach says I write custom plans. Really? Tell me, right? It's no different than a high potency multivitamin, right? I I don't write just plans, I write custom plans. Okay, tell me how you're customizing it if you know nothing about this person's biology. Explain, you know, I I I really want a coach to show me a custom plan without any biology from a human. You know, I just, I just I would love to see this custom plan. And right, so then we can dive into this, and then not only with the food sensitivity, yeah, there's there's just no possible way somebody can't get a significantly improved daily protocol. You know, Jim's always talking about, right, people of action. I view myself as a person of action. You're, you know, as a listener, people who statistically listen to podcasts and listen for advice are typically people of action, right? Who we're not talking to is the people who aren't listening. Right? It's hard to talk to somebody if they're not listening, right? They're usually not people of action. This, you know, if people are tired of guessing and right, the next new protocol and the next new book and the next new, you know, magical supplement, again, there's there are these tests out there that you can just say, here, I want a course of action that's going to be geared around my biology. Let's run a test, let's find out exactly what your body needs and how it's going to uh benefit and be a far better performance model.
SPEAKER_02So, Joe, I asked you uh a year or better ago, like what's the what's the best way to you know get a six-pack or you know, for guys that are trying to train and that's the you know the the Shangri-La, right? And and you've talked about it repeatedly as you've done show preps and and how you really don't focus so much on that, but you focus on something different. And it reminded me of uh something in triathlon where they talk about the fourth component of triathlon. There's more to it than swim, bike, and run. And in the training, it's the nutrition.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. It is the driving force.
SPEAKER_02If we think about that, it's probably the hardest but easiest at the same time thing for people. So if we think about triathletes, high performance, you know, Tour de France type cycling, I mean, really, really high performance, and they are so dialed in. I heard a guy talk about a Ferrari that you tweak and tune and you only put race gas in and and a thoroughbred that eats better than most humans, you know. And and I think about that is we are so overwhelmed by corporate garbage of McDonald's and and everything in between that what I'm I guess I'm trying to say is this test will help individuals from a very peak performance all the way down to you know the soccer mom trying to be healthier. Talk to me for a minute about the the application of it in in your clients and and maybe Megan chime in on how hard has this been for those that you're coaching? What are they experiencing? What are the challenges? What are the some of the revelations?
SPEAKER_04Megan, why don't you take that for a second?
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, honestly, when I first want to start off, everybody has gone to the grocery store lately and you try to eat clean, A, it is super expensive, you know. So obviously we should get all of our nutrition ideally from food. But even the soil in our ground is so different than whatever it used to be. You know, there's tons of pesticides. Like, I mean, Iowa is ranking like second in cancer nationwide, you know. So many times, even if you mean well and you want to have like a full, you know, you would like to just ideally eat all whole foods, no matter what, there's not like one person that I have seen that has been sufficient in like every single vitamin, mineral, amino, you know, so it's kind of like to be able to have help from it. Um, you can kind of circle back around and ask me like the question again on what you wanted because that just kind of that just went off in my head that I just wanted to make clear to everybody. Um, but most of the time, even if you were to supplement correctly, like you might have the supplement that you even want, like that your body needs, but you don't even know like how many CCs or MCs that you should actually be taking of that. So for many people, if you have something that is truly customized for you, it takes off all the guesswork. You don't have to buy this supplement from this place, this supplement from this place. Like it is purely designed just for what your body needs.
SPEAKER_02So Megan shifted gears, shifted gears to the to the custom vitamin supplements that we can generate from the test. And and I think that's a valid point. Um, I guess that's ultimately where to some degree it ends up is we would, of course, want everybody to do a whole food approach first, but clearly, based on your test and based on the things you just mentioned, that's extremely hard to do. My question was in application, after you had somebody go through the cellular nutrient test and and look at those things, and then whether it be through whole food or custom supplementation, what's been the experience? What have been some of the oh my gosh, this or that?
SPEAKER_00Or okay, better energy, right off the bat, better energy because typically they're sleeping better. So once you, you know, they're so they're sleeping better, they have better energy. Um, digestion has been a huge thing. Many people who do not like we should regularly have bowel movements every day, but many people do not have regular bowel movements, or if they do, they might be more constipated or they might have more loose stools. Um, so as soon as you have better digestion, that's gonna help. It just gets the whole gut health, everything going correctly. And I have seen, I don't know, like better energy, a clearer mind, all of it just rolls together. Yeah, it makes sense. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, well, and that's the thing, like once you bring awareness to something, like what you focus on grows. Again, I've said this. It's like if I gave somebody five dollars for every blue car they saw today, they would see way more blue cars than they ever have in their life. And there wouldn't be any more than there was yesterday. There's just value now in seeing a blue car. If I run a cellular nutrition test and I say you're low in magnesium and you start grocery shopping, you're you're gonna start looking at what foods are high in magnesium, what foods have this. I mean, just just through just through knowing where you stand, it automatically is going to shift habits. And we're all creatures of habits, but if our habits are leading us to deficiencies, well then therefore now we're now we're aware of it. So we're gonna change our habits because now we just know. You know, there's that there's there's just the aspect of being shown right in front of your face like this. Is where you stand right now. This isn't, you know, it doesn't, you know, it's not looking at your feelings. It's not looking at, you know, it's not looking at excuses. Well, I'm low on magnesium because I've been busy and it has nothing to do with that. It just says you're low, we have to fix it, right? It's not like right, we take this personally, right? Um, so you know, it and that's what testing allows us to do is it is it is it gives us awareness. So from an action standpoint, once we're aware of something, of course we can make better decisions, right? We can't just magically go fix ourselves by just just again doing what everybody does, randomly guessing on random advice. Every advice out there is totally random when you start looking at it because they're you know everybody should do this. Everybody should take ABC supplement because their brand is great and they advertise at the Rose Bowl. No, that is not looking at somebody's biology. They're not, right? We're not getting full awareness of where we stand right now. You know, uh, you know, take take a financial planner, take take balancing your checkbook, right? It's like, well, where do you want to go? I don't know. I just want to retire someday. Well, where's your money going? I don't know, but we're always fighting about money. Well, do you balance your checkbook? Well, no, that's that's a pain in the butt. Well, well, it's like, well, of course you're having problem. Duh. Why would you expect to have all of your quote unquote shit together if you don't even know where you're at? Everybody's running around this planet and they have no idea where they're at, they have no clue where they're at, and then they're wondering, man, why am I tired? Why can't I sleep? Why am I agitated? Why is this? Why you know, why is my gut messed up? You know, and then somebody comes along with some Instagram advertisement. Man, maybe that will work. See no, this has to work. It's your mind.
SPEAKER_02I'm so tired of the TikTok bullshit. Uh, I'm sorry. It just drives me bonkers when when we have a lot of information, a lot of science that we can back up a structured approach. So, as a financial planner, it's funny you bring that up. That's that's how my brain works, right? It's let's build a plan, let's build a blueprint, let's let's check this off, let's put all the blocks in order, let's not skip the line and go to the magic pill. So I'm gonna go ahead and open Pandora's box for us. Let's talk about GLP1's weight loss and what they actually are doing to people's bodies.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So what people think is they think I inject this Ozempic or whatever the GLP one brand is, they they think if I inject it, there's a chemical in there that just starts dissolving fat from my from my midsection, which is not what it's doing.
SPEAKER_02That's the stubborn fat, Joe.
SPEAKER_04Right, right, right. That's the stubborn one versus the open-minded fat, right? Because it's open-minded, right? Some of it, some fat cells are some fat cells are up for suggestion, right? But it's but it's the stubborn ones that we really want to get after. There is there is one reason why the body loses fat. One reason. It's it's it's energy balance, right? So what GLP1s do is it is it aids in creating energy balance. It what it does is it affects the hormone that gives the sensation of feeling hungry. If we shut off the hunger hormone, guess what? You're not going to eat because you're not hungry. So therefore, energy balance happens, and therefore they right, they're not they're not eating. You know, it's no different. I remember I had a I had a vehicle in high school that the gas tank lever stopped working. Well, it always showed I was full, but I wasn't, right? I mean, it literally was stuck on full. So if you're if your hormones are stuck on full and you're not eating, and it's just like we said in the previous episode a while back, that the average person taking it is eating between 600 and a thousand calories a day. Of course, that is going to be a deficit for almost every human on this planet. Of course, they're going to lose weight. But when we look at this cellular nutrition, what are these all these calories that we're not eating are also vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and nutrients that are running our body. So, yes, you might be losing weight, but now you're completely deficient in almost all these vital, vital essential nutrients that run your life.
SPEAKER_00Well, if you're already low in B vitamins, iron, magnesium, all that is going to happen because you're restricting your caloric intake is if you already deal with the fatigue, brain fog, you are going to experience so much more of that. And then you're going to plateau your fat loss anyway, and you're going to you're actually going to get in, you're going to eat into that lean muscle versus even taking away the fat. So if you are already low in those things, your body can't convert food into energy efficiently anyway.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00So deficiencies is a really huge component of that, and it's not going to help you feel better. Like, do you want to just be really skinny fat and break a hip and look hot in a walker when you're 70? No, nobody wants to do that.
SPEAKER_02Hot in a walker.
SPEAKER_00I mean, but like it's but like, you know, so many times, so many people, their pain point is they feel overweight, but a part of feeling overweight is like not having the energy to do the activities that would get you into the gym to lift more weight and to feel better. So these GLPs, they're not making you, it's just like a short-term fix, but it's gonna take a toll.
SPEAKER_02Well, and that's that's I think the the bigger concern I have for people is is the vanity of weight loss and and the bikini and and everything. I get it. I understand that I'm I'm a type A vein individual myself. However, the the bigger concern when I sat through a doctor's presentation on the GLP1s, is we are literally taking them from the couch to the walker to the grave by focusing on this type of approach because of how malnourished the people that he's testing in his clinic who have been on GLP1s for six months. And and that should be alarming. And and if that doesn't give you pause on our FDA, I don't know what will, because the the problem that we we see or are seeing, he's seeing, is how malnourished people are when we can't get so he's got a nutrition and dietitian background, and he cited a study that dietitian, nutrition, I think it was nutritionists in a program, were challenged to create a balanced nutritional diet with 2,000 calories. They couldn't do it on 2,000 calories because you couldn't get enough vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in those 2,000 calories for for your body. Now we take this GLP1, we short circuit the the system, and I think Joe said something earlier with it it messes with energy balance, and I I have to believe that um it it disrupts the energy balance, it just tricks the system, it's the broken fuel gauge. And when we do that, I think that's the challenge that we need to talk about. If somebody needs to take GOP1s, so I think there are some use cases where it's appropriate. I just saw somebody that I hadn't seen in years and years and years, and he was really much uh let go and and gained a tremendous amount of weight, and now he needs a I I forget whether it was a hip or a knee or something. And so the doctors wanted him to take a GOP1 to lose some weight before the surgery so that he wasn't putting as much pressure and strain on those joints. That I think is a fair use case. However, because he's in a cycle of, well, I can't exercise because my knee hurts, and then I put on all this weight, and so now he's got to lose the weight, but now he's got to get mobile to exercise and regain some muscle and balance after the surgery, that's where I think the GLP1 could have a fair position in in the dialogue. For somebody that's able-bodied, that has no restrictive movement issues, I think the reality is better nutrition and movement for that weight loss. However, if somebody's gonna do the the GLP1, I think it's our job with the information that we have to preach the gospel of malnourishment when you take them.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, because otherwise you're just gonna have a really, really, really light casket to carry.
SPEAKER_02Hot walkers and light caskets.
SPEAKER_04Hot yes, hot walkers, light caskets. What a what a what a life-driven goal, a purpose.
SPEAKER_02But that's reality. We're we're joking about it, but that's that's for real. Yes.
SPEAKER_01What's the recovery like? Like if if a doctor advises to lose the weight with a GLP1, does that then affect the recovery time post surgery because of their um malnourishment? Their malnourishment?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because I mean our entire I mean our entire response time to recovery relies on raw material. Raw material are vitamins, minerals, nutrients, amino acids.
SPEAKER_00And antioxidants, you know, if if you reduce like vitamin C, E, celium, anything like that, it is gonna have slower healing and you're gonna have more inflammation. So I mean, we have a biochemical response of every vitamin mineral that it has like what it has a job to do within our body, and if we're insufficient in it, it can't do its job. So, of course, like if you have any surgeries, if you have like you're working out, like it's it's it will create more muscle loss, poor recovery, um, electrolyte imbalances, there's many different things on it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I want to great segue. Before we believe the the GLP1 thing though, I I do want to say, you know, for those of you listening or watching and and you know have uh maybe dabbled in or gone down that path, I don't want to necessarily shame you. I I've I'm guilty of taking a pre-workout, right? I shouldn't need that. I should be able to just go and do my workout. So there are enhancement products out there that can help get you through, get you through a plateau, help you get over that that little bump in the road or get started. I get it, but I think the thing that's alarming to me is if the GLP1 is your weight loss solution, then you've got some problems cooking. We're talking organ failure, we're talking just uh I don't want to scare anybody, but there is a laundry. Yeah, so but Megan, you brought up the antioxidant component. Uh Joe, tell us a little bit about uh the CNA and the redox panel.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so one thing the CNA does is it does something called a redox score. So what that does is it takes your again, takes your lymphocyte, extracts it from a cell, puts it in a solution of hydrogen peroxide. They're creating oxidative stress to try and basically again oxidate the cell and try and kill it off because our our problems are oxidative stress. And after 48 hours, they come back and they see how much of your cell is left. For instance, mine was 85. So 15% of my cell died off, 85% was considered still intact. So therefore, I had a score of 85, which was in the average range. So then what they did was they took all these so-called known, and I say so-called known antioxidative properties and anti-inflammatory um uh uh nutrients and uh the botanicals, right? These are known antioxidative and anti-inflammatory. So then for instance. Give us some examples. Yeah, so then they give they so now they take my same lymphocyte and they put turmeric, rhodiola, uh, milk thistle, acceed, elderberry, echinacea, um, you know, all these different, right, known properties that are known antioxidative. They do the same test, they put it in that solution, they come back 48 hours from now. Well, in my solution of turmeric, there was 85% of my cell left, which meant what? It did nothing. It was as if turmeric wasn't there. Guess how much money Joe was spending on turmeric. I mean, it wasn't breaking my bank, but it was way I I'm just not into wasting money. You know, I just I just I just you know, I'm just not driving down the road throwing dollar bills out out of my window, right? Um, I value my hard work and I value where I put my money. So, and not to mention, um there was a there was probably about six items on my redox score that I took on a daily basis that showed zero benefit. Zero. I was wasting my money because somebody said, well, right, because I had tendinitis in my elbow or I had joint pain forever. Right? You should take turmeric, you should take rhodiola, you should take acceedie, you should take elderberry, you should take milk thistle, they are anti-inflammatory, which they are just not for me. And not to mention, when I right go back to last episode, turmeric was inflammatory. So not only did so in my own case, I now I have a targeted diet. I looked at the foods that had an inflammatory response. I looked at the supplements that I was currently taking that either did nothing or also had an inflammatory response. I stopped taking them. I did exactly what the test told me to do. I went through an entire bodybuilding show prep as a test, and I did not have one ache or pain. I can't tell you how enlightening that was for me and how eye-opening that I'm like, wow, I wish I would have known this longer, right? I wish I'd have known this for a longer time.
SPEAKER_00Well, I have to add in here, you're going from like, you know, obviously with the cellular level, I just want to say antioxidants are they help free radicals, which free radicals age people. So for women who love to spend money on Botox, I mean, we all want to look better when we age, but sometimes I feel like women are more accustomed to fillers and Botoxes. But like if you combat your free radicals with like your antioxidant, like your superpower, not only is it just going to be a fake appearance, like you're gonna be healthier and your skin is gonna look so much amazing, and it's going to help slow down the appearance of the aging effect, too.
SPEAKER_04Not not yeah, not to mention how much money are you saving. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, oh well, this costs this, you know, instead of just a chemical in your life.
SPEAKER_04We did an episode on how much does this cost to not know? I mean, I mean literally, I mean, how much is it gonna cost to not know these things? You know, and again, um, my my test, guys. I mean, I I just I mean, I don't know, what is there, 58 items in the Redox score, 55, 58, something like that. Something like that. It's it's right in there. Five items on the entire list showed beneficial for me. Five. And like three of them I never even heard of. And I know this stuff. I never even heard of them. Oh, well, you can find this in the you know, Tibetan Himalayan hills, and right. And then I, you know, I mean, I mean, literally, you know, and then I wonder what like you know, you know, I wonder what like right the Tibetan monks think. This is from the plains of Nebraska, you know, or whatever. Some new, some new and improved, you know, from the soil of of the heartland, you know, like we have to get it from the other side of the world to you know make us benefit from it.
SPEAKER_02Um, you know, because guinea walkers, like caskets and Tibetan monks.
SPEAKER_04Yes, we want the exotic new thing that you know that our land doesn't have, you know. But then I've ran other ones where they're like, yeah, TumorC was great for you, and Asae and Rhodiola were great for you, and all the, you know, and and but yet they were taking all these other things, and you know, like half the list was beneficial and the other half wasn't. I I only had five. You know, I can't bitch and complain about it. That's what was beneficial to my body. So that's so again, I can take that information and put it to work, or I can just say, no, no, so and so no, they're lying. Turmeric, my my cells don't know any better because so-and-so, I paid for this turmeric, I'm taking it, darn it.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think I think there's a a certain element of lack of education and knowledge on this, and let's let's be fair. This is this is outside the purview of most trainers and coaches. And you go to a trainer, a coach, or somebody to help you lose weight, you're paying them for their experience and advice and knowledge on the topic of exercise and weight loss, just like you do for an athletic coach or anything. And and I think this is where we can help so many more people because this is somewhat, I don't want to say it's new, but it's a new application to the point of Joe. If I came to you and I said, hey, I want to do a bodybuilding contest, you've done it. You're you not only have you done it personally, but you've coached many others to do it, and you've been, you know, you've you've been awarded the the coach of the year multiple times. So I would come to you for that advice. Now, I think this is where the the nutrition and the the CNA and the ALCAT and some of the different tests that we offer. This is the light bulb moment. It's like well, you can argue, but you came for advice. The advice is I have now a way to tell you what's going to work best for you. Absolutely. I remember I was talking to a very well-respected coach. He's he's helped a lot of people do Ironmans. He's himself done like 11 or 12 of them. So arguably the guy knows what he's doing. Um, but at the same time, he was so close-minded to anything outside of his 20-year career. And I think that's the difference in what we're trying to convey is we have it's it's the $6 million man. We have the technology now to tell.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, this doesn't this doesn't replace my coaching and my experience. It just gives me additional tools to just do it better, you know. And that that's the you know, that's the thing because I look back and I'm like, how many people have I told to take turmeric? Countless. I I mean, countless amount of people. Now, again, my own bias, again, truth be told, I mean, what the first thing I look at on someone's redox score is turmeric. Like, I immediately go to turmeric and I'm like, yes, it doesn't benefit them. I'm like, okay, cool. Another waste, you know, like like for some reason I find that as like victory.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, okay, that's direct PTSD.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like, yeah, like, I mean, that's a dumb approach, but a gal came in. I've had a gym member since the day I opened. She came in, she goes, Hey, I've been reading this stuff on Merenga T. She goes, I'm thinking about getting it. What do you think?
unknownCorrect.
SPEAKER_04What do you think my answer was? I'm like, I I don't know. I I don't know anymore. You know, I'm like, I would have told you, yeah, man, I've read some studies on it. It's great. I think it can help you with this, this, this, this, and this, and I think it's great, you should try it. That's not what I said. Because moringa is on the list to test. I go, I don't know, but I mean, if you really truly want to find out, I can find out if you should be drinking moringa tea or not. You know, it just, I I just because again, if we keep trying these things and there's zero benefit to it, or you know, um okay, um, like beets, right? I mean, I don't know if you guys have ever drank, you know, red's powder is like they're not the greatest thing, you know.
SPEAKER_01I mean I like it.
SPEAKER_04I mean, you know, if you like, you know, scooping dirt into a you know, like something that looks like red dirt, you know, but beets were beet beets were actually inflammatory for me. I'm like, yes, I don't have to chug those down because I would look at it like, oh god, this is disgusting, but it's so beneficial. I'm like, no, it's not, it's not beneficial. I don't have to drink that anymore. You know, I can find something that is very similar to beets that do the same thing, just better for me. You know, I mean, I mean, we do live in a world that, again, you have to be naive at best. And and and again, don't take this the wrong way, but to think our biology is all the same and everything's gonna work exactly, you know, just because your neighbor tried something and it was great and all this different stuff, guys, you're naive at best to think that our biology is all the same and every right, there's there's a there's a right path for every single human to take when it comes down to their health. Again, I would say naive at best. But the cool part is 50 years ago, 20 years ago, a lot of people didn't have these options out there. Now now we do. It's like if there's an option to allow you to do it, just yeah. Why sit and wonder? Just do it.
SPEAKER_02As I'm listening and thinking about it and how it applies, I I think that's the the thing that I keep coming back to is we have been so hooded. Winked to think that we're full means we also got the right nutrition, right? Yep. Like I went to McDonald's and and got a Big Mac and fries and soda, and my now my gut is full and I'm good. In reality, that was pretty much not much of any nutrition. And I think that's the bigger difference. And so let's face it, uh, you know, I'm getting old and and I want to try and and maintain some sense of vitality to do some of the things that I used to do and like to do. And that's where this comes into play is how do I do this better?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Jim, you mentioned, you know, new, you know, nutrition is, you know, it's it's hard, but it's but it's also one of the easiest things to do. Like, you know, again, we did an episode on biohacking. Like people will do like um gravity deprivation, you know, floating and sit in salt, salt caves and cold bath, cold plunge, heat, this, that, all these different things where it's like, again, I'm not saying there's not benefits to those. These are cheaper than those. I just yeah, and you know, and you I mean, again, they are. I mean, they're I mean, people can go, people can go completely just sideways on these things and go to all these new, new and improved things out there. It's just like, look at your biology, look under the hood, and let's look at again vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and nutrients. Look, where do you stand? Because all of those things I just listed run the play for your entire life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, let's think about it. That we you you mentioned the biohacking, right? So my wife, um, I forget where it was. We we read something, saw something. Somebody was driving to work with red light therapy, right? They were doing their red light therapy on their way to work. Think of the stupid shit we do as a society. We we get in these cold plunges. And I'm not saying that these things don't have some level of benefit, right? But let's back up and think about what we're talking about today. Nutrition at a cellular level, things that we we can leverage the science that is tried and true, and actually apply to our nutrition to help our bodies do what it does instead of all this other crazy stuff. Sign me up.
SPEAKER_04You know, you mentioned that, and um well, I mean, we'll wrap up here. Um, but you mentioned that, and I've I have I have a guy I went to high school with, and hell, he probably listens to this, uh, you know, but he had commented about fasting and cold plunging on one of my on one of my posts about inflammation. I go, I go, you can fast and cold plunge all day long to help with inflammation. But if you keep putting the foods and the ingredients in your body that create inflammation, what's the I mean, yeah, again, I mean I you know, I just well again, if you're not stopping what is creating it to begin with, you can do every tool known to me. You can fast for the rest of your life and cold plunge and sit in a cold tank for the rest of your life. But if you keep putting in foods that are inflammatory, if you keep putting in things that are creating inflammation, again, we've all heard that chasing your tail and all these different like that's literally what you're doing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but cold plunge, I heard burns the brown fat first. It's you know no, in all seriousness, I think that's that's the thing that that I walk away with is what we're trying to say is, you know, we we always recommend that people start with a DNA test to kind of get their foundations right. But I think what what I want to to make sure that people understand is there is other testing available to help you dial in when you plateau. And these tests are not they're not hacks, they're not fads, it's it's to its core the science of your body, how it functions. And I've always been a big believer on giving your body what it needs and it will do its thing.
