Come on now. Hey everybody, it's Manny. Welcome back to My Boo Buddies. When the sun goes down, Boo Manor really wakes up. This evening I found a ghost feather on my pillow and then I heard three clear knocks on the attic window. Comet or ghost dog started glowing. So I know it isn't just the wind. Maybe something is trying to warn us. Or invite us. Grab your flashlight and join me. We're going upstairs to the spooky dark attic. Dulce, Carly, and Comet are already up there.
SPEAKER_03Manny, did you hear that? The whole attic shivered. And look at this. Feathers and it's like a garbage trail.
SPEAKER_13Also, Gat's fishing lines are gone. And this shiny spoon from the kitchen is here. And what's this wet stuffed squirrel toy?
SPEAKER_02Confession time. I only took the squirrel chew toy. The shiny stuff, not me.
SPEAKER_05A scavenger at work. The trail stops by that big beam.
unknownShh.
SPEAKER_05I think we found the lair.
SPEAKER_03Hello! If you're the shiny stuff thief, we just want to talk. There's a nest up there. It has a little sign. Wait, it says for the forgotten. Whoever you are, that's kind of beautiful.
SPEAKER_09Children of the house, you have found my museum.
SPEAKER_13Whoa! Talking crow?
SPEAKER_03He's huge and shiny. Like a pirate captain in feathers.
SPEAKER_09I'm Bukan, keeper of memory, guardian of history. I gather what the living overlook. I am also a member of the original tribe that lived here long, long, long ago. The Montaukets.
SPEAKER_02Do you also gather snacks?
SPEAKER_09I gather stories and warnings. History repeats itself. Listen! Before roads and rooftops, this island was balanced. Forests sang. Turtles nested. Nests were mended at dusk. The lotion life and the animals and plants were all in balance. Perfect cycle of life.
SPEAKER_05My abuela told me about fishing at sunrise. She said the water used to be so clear.
SPEAKER_03My mom said storms are stronger now. The beach keeps shrinking.
SPEAKER_09Overdevelopment steals shelter from the animals. Pollution poisons the tide. Erosion eats the beach. Bite by bite.
SPEAKER_13Is that why you're taking shiny things? Because they're trash?
SPEAKER_09Some were lost. Some were tossed. I keep them to remember. What is lost stays lost. Unless remembered.
SPEAKER_05We can help remember. We can put labels. We can tell the stories out loud.
SPEAKER_03And we can clean the beach. Our class did it once.
SPEAKER_02We filled five bags before lunch. I filled one with seaweed snacks. Turns out they were not snacks. They tasted terrible.
SPEAKER_09Memory is not enough. Balance needs guardians. Will you help restore the balance of this island?
SPEAKER_13I'll help, but you have to talk a little less mysterious. My brain gets tangled.
SPEAKER_09Then Herod Plain. Care for the place that cares for you. If you take, give back. If you break, repair. If you forget, return.
SPEAKER_05We can make a club, the food, manor, guardians!
SPEAKER_03I'm in. First mission, return the shiny things that belong to people. Second, clean the path for the marsh.
SPEAKER_02Third, snack break.
SPEAKER_09Accept it. Begin what you have borrowed from your father.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, Mijitos! Anybody seen my silver screwdriver? And my good fishing lines? And why is the attic humming like a refrigerator?
SPEAKER_13We'll bring your stuff down, Dad! Also, the attic just likes to hum.
SPEAKER_06Uh-huh. Bring it all down, please. And no one climb on the bees. Then mucho cuidado. Be very careful. Do you hear me?
SPEAKER_01Good evening, young hosts. I heard the attic was entertaining distinguished company.
SPEAKER_03Bootox! We're learning about the history of this island.
SPEAKER_01Then remember, respect is not only for tables, it belongs to shorelines, trees, and nests. The cat and the tuxedo speaks true. Alas, duty calls. A napkin emergency in the pantry. Carry on, guardians.
SPEAKER_03Um why is there a police car outside?
SPEAKER_05That's Officer Chuck. Look, on some people think you're a monster crow. You should probably keep quiet for a minute.
SPEAKER_09I will do caged for speaking truth.
SPEAKER_10Citizens! Oh bit up! We have reports of a giant rogue bird stealing valuables last seen in this vicinity.
SPEAKER_13Hi, Officer Chuck.
SPEAKER_11Where were you on the night of Well, all the nights when shiny things went missing?
SPEAKER_05Probably doing homework and also returning things, because we're responsible citizens.
SPEAKER_12Uh-huh. My witness saw feathers. Big ones. Black as midnight. Now that's either a mutant raven or a suspicious Halloween decoration.
SPEAKER_03I don't see any black feathers on this porch or inside.
SPEAKER_12Stand back, kids. Cause I've got a humane bird cage and a professional hat. We'll tag it, bag it, and file the paperwork under mysterious.
SPEAKER_02Paperwork? Yikes! Even I'm scared of paperwork.
SPEAKER_04Oh, paperwork! Oh! It's a cage made of trees. Did you see that blur? Fukan just swooped! Officer Chuck, your net!
SPEAKER_12Who put this net on my head?
SPEAKER_04I can't see a thing! Run out a ten trick, Bukan! Wait, no, that's not helping! No, everybody's going to notice us!
SPEAKER_09Nets belong on fish, not on truthseekers. Who said that?
SPEAKER_12Identify yourself at once and return my net!
SPEAKER_13Hey, okay. Let's de-escalate. Officer Chuck, we'll bring you your net. No giant ravens here. Promise.
SPEAKER_03Then what keeps stealing spoons and shiny junk? A collector. For a good reason. We're curators, kind of.
SPEAKER_12Hmm. Big word. Curator. I'll allow it for now. But if I see one more pile of shiny junk, I'm confiscating all of it. For justice.
SPEAKER_05Wukon, I know you're protecting things, but that was a lot.
SPEAKER_09Attention breaks sleep. Sometimes sleep must break.
SPEAKER_03Okay, Wukon. We'll help your message get heard without any net dropping business. Yeah, we can make flyers for a beach cleanup.
SPEAKER_02We can put snacks on the flyers to attract volunteers. Yow!
SPEAKER_05Revolutionary strategy!
unknownWoo!
SPEAKER_09This is the way! Words on paper, feet on sand. Hands that carry, not age. This is the way.
SPEAKER_07Oh yeah, kids! I am hearing funny voices! Everything okay up there?
SPEAKER_13We're good, Dad. We're turning your tools and your fishing lines right now. And here's a flyer to help clean up the beach.
SPEAKER_07Ah, thanks, Miko. Also, if you see any birds in the attic, uh just you know, open your window gently. No chasing. No, you'll give them a heart attack.
SPEAKER_05Copy that. Gentle only. See you on the beach.
SPEAKER_07Proud of you kids. Don't stay up too late.
SPEAKER_03Bukan, you said what is lost stays lost unless remembered. How do we remember right?
SPEAKER_09Speak the names. Tell the stories. Return what you can. Repair what you cannot. Guard the edges where the land meets the sea.
SPEAKER_05We can make signs for the paths so people stay on it.
SPEAKER_13That helps the dunes, right? And we'll bring trash cans where we walk. Bottle caps, wrappers, all the junk? Gone.
SPEAKER_02I will sniff out every snack wrapper for justice. And snacks. Mostly justice. You are 90% stomach with snacks for brains.
SPEAKER_09You are learning. Guardians indeed.
SPEAKER_13Why does it feel like the house is holding its breath?
SPEAKER_05Wukon's eyes look brighter. He's looking past us. Like he's counting something we can't see.
SPEAKER_09We are not here yet.
SPEAKER_05More must come. More who?
SPEAKER_03More what? Are there other Boo buddies?
SPEAKER_09The island remembers all its keepers.
SPEAKER_04The attic light just flickered.
SPEAKER_13That's never a good sign. BooCon. Is someone else coming to the attic?
SPEAKER_08When the tide is right, when the wind points home.
SPEAKER_13And on that note, it's time to say goodnight. Since BooCon speaks riddles, I got more questions than answers. Boo Kon said more must come. What or who must come? Does that mean more Boo Buddies or something else? Something more spooky? I guess tide or time will tell. Until next time.
SPEAKER_03Let's play. Let's play.
