This week on Slasher Bash, Maddi and Ben decided which film is better between the original The Evil Dead directed by Sam Raimi or 2013's remake.

SPEAKER_00

Let's do this, bitch. What's up, everybody? Welcome to Slasher Batch the podcast. The podcast where two friends review horror movies. Hell yeah. We really gotta figure this out. We gotta figure out some sort of intro.

SPEAKER_03

Like I did get a new idea for the ending, but I'll uh tell you that when we get there.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I like that. Um we are going back to our sorry, I'm Ben.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm Maddie.

SPEAKER_00

And we are your hosts for today's episode where we are reviewing and I guess comparing the original The Evil Dead with the two 2013 Evil Dead remake. Yes. And I didn't know we were reviewing this until yesterday afternoon, and I had to watch both The Evil Dead last night and the Evil Dead remake to this afternoon.

SPEAKER_03

I finished the remake 15 minutes ago.

SPEAKER_00

Did you watch it with your wife?

SPEAKER_03

No, she had to watch the kid. I had it like on my phone while I was like cooking and like earbuds and like what you can't do, you can't do that. I I was still taking notes, but it was utterly disgusting watching it through dinner. I can tell you.

SPEAKER_00

That is not a way to watch movies.

SPEAKER_03

It's not. But I do you do that all the time? I no, I did it because I forgot that it was two movies.

SPEAKER_00

What do you mean? Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like I'd watched The Evil Dead a while ago and then was like, wait a minute, what are we recording tomorrow? And I went and looked yesterday and was like, oh shit, I gotta watch another movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think the remake one is one of those movies too where you can sort of not pay attention.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's the exact same movie, just really disgusting. So while you're trying to eat and cook, you don't could just look away. That's what I did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's true. Um, you said you were going you went to the Harry Potter thing last night.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

SPEAKER_00

It yeah, I've seen that.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I remember reading it years ago, and all I remembered about it was being like, it's so gay. Harry Potter's kid is gay with the Slytherin Malfoy kid. And I was like, Oh yeah, this is as gay as I remember it. Um, the magic on stage was awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's totally good.

SPEAKER_03

It was so great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. When it would do that, like when I forget if they were like time traveling, and it would do like that whole did you get that thing where it was like Oh, yeah, this like sound effect of like but it was like a visual cue too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was like the on the set piece. Like it made it look, yeah. It was really cool.

SPEAKER_00

Did you like it?

SPEAKER_03

Um, I thought that like sometimes like it with seeing theater, it's hard, I think, to hear everything that's being said, and this one starts off really fast-paced. Um, so it was like, what the fuck is happening for like the first like 10 minutes? And it's like, oh, okay, a bunch of gobbledygook and their third years, let's go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, the the the friends I went to see it with, they hated it. They thought it was terrible. Oh, really? I like this. I don't know why everyone hates this. I was so confused by their hate of it. Yeah, like it was so bad.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, Were they Harry Potter fans?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I was like, explain why they couldn't do it. They were just like, it was just bad. I find out later that some of them they don't go to theater often. So I think there was like a when you're in a theater, when you're seeing theater, not that I'm a big theater person, but like you have to sort of really suspend your disbelief about what's happening, right? Like there's they're they're acting very loudly, overacting, you would say, you know what I mean? I think that put them off. There's a lot of like they were very upset with the acting, and I'm like, that's staged acting. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, like it's super over the top, like the characters were ridiculous, but like that's that's the darling.

SPEAKER_00

And I never read it, so like when that well, I'm not gonna spoil it right now, but there's a twist where like the time traveling makes somebody disappear.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Blew my fucking mind. I was like, holy shit.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think it was great. I yeah, it was cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that'd be cool.

SPEAKER_03

I I bet I always feel guilty supporting JK Rowling. And the thing, yeah, like Chloe was like, Wait, this is like so gay. Do you think that's intended? And I was like, Yeah, and she's like, but she hates trans people. And I was like, Yeah, but Dumbledore's gay. I don't get it either.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and Dumbledore is only like gay after the series was over. She was like, Oh, by the way, I always thought Dumbledore was gay. But there's nothing in those books that would allude to that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, not at all.

SPEAKER_00

It's like her just trying to like pander a little bit, gay bait, as you would say.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, she was totally gay baiting with Dumbledore, but this one was very much like Yeah, just got more and more and more and more enclosed. Like, are they gonna kiss? And I was like, No, but don't worry, you're you're gonna know by the end that it's on.

SPEAKER_00

Was that the first time you guys had seen that?

SPEAKER_03

Uh seen it, yeah. Um, and I she hadn't read it. Also, I guess spoiler alert for anybody who hasn't seen this and wants to see it.

SPEAKER_01

They gave.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I you know, it's gonna be hard to watch it if you haven't seen it and not think of that now. If you've like if you tell people beforehand, like oh, it's totally gay, they're gonna you can't get out of your head. It's like Top Gun. But if you don't say it, maybe you don't notice. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Are you kidding me? How long ago did you always remember? I was gonna super like it alludes to it constantly, and then at the very end, Albus Potter has a talk with his father, his Papa Harry. Oh, that's right. And he's like, uh, what's the kid's name? Scorpius. He's like, well, first of all, Scorpius when he makes his patronus.

SPEAKER_00

Why are you saying Scorpius?

SPEAKER_03

That's that's Scorpius Malfoy, that's his name. Scorpius? Scorpius Malfoy is his name. And Albus Severus Malfoy.

SPEAKER_00

No, you're oh my god, I had no idea his name was Scorpius.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So, first of all, his Patronus and who he's like thinking of when he makes his Patronus is little Albus. Baby Potter. So gay. And then uh Harry Jr. has a talk with his papa, and he's like, Scorpius is the most important person in my life, and it might be that way forever. Oh, yeah, you're right. Now that you're saying, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I remember, yeah. I have a bad memory. We all know this. This is my curse. This feels like an episode of Tickle Pink right now.

unknown

It does.

SPEAKER_00

Um anyway, we're here to talk about Evil Dead.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you want to run the stats?

SPEAKER_00

So I didn't I didn't do stats this time because I thought this was gonna be interesting because this is gonna be like our first time we're we're reviewing two movies at the same time, and like it's like a versus kind of episode, right? Where I think we're gonna like at the end of this decide which one we liked better. And but we're also gonna talk about like what each movie did well and if the remake brought anything to the table, or like, yeah, and also like you know, did right by the original, you know. So I didn't bring any stats. I mean, those everyone, I think, you know, The Evil Dead, it's if you're a film person, you know this is like Sam Raimi's directorial debut. It was a super independent movie that he like basically asked a bunch of friends and begged people for money to make this movie. I think it costs like $700,000 to make or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I always thought it was like a student film because it kind of feels that way in a lot of ways.

SPEAKER_02

With like all the clamation and shit.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that, but just because I don't know, it's the like it's one location, it's it's all he casts all his friends in it and stuff like that. Like him and Bruce Campbell like grew up together, I'm pretty sure.

SPEAKER_01

Is that Ash?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Ash. Okay, who obviously will go on to be sort of one of those film characters, exactly, yeah. And then the remake came out in 2013. That was directed by Fede Alvarez. I don't know what I think. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it Fede? Which we all know it's it's F Fede, F-E-D-E.

SPEAKER_01

Fede.

SPEAKER_00

Fede, Alvarez, who we kind of know, right? Like he's a famous, he just did the most recent alien movie. Yeah. But he also did Don't Breathe, which is a really dope horror movie. Uh anyway, so this was like his his first movie, like his real first movie was this remake. So also the remake was produced by Sam Raimi. It was with Sam Raimi's production company, and it was also produced by Bruce Campbell, which is pretty cool. So it's still in the family. I had seen both these movies, obviously, before.

SPEAKER_03

I had seen them.

SPEAKER_00

Have you seen them before? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I'd seen the remake.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I guess I had seen the original. I saw the remake in the drive-in when it came out, which was really fun.

SPEAKER_00

Nice. But I didn't really remember. It was really cool.

SPEAKER_03

But I remember enjoying it enough to then be like, oh, I gotta see the original. But I like really did not remember shit about them. I remembered from the original, like the clay nation, and from the remake, I remember Jane Levy running through the forest getting fucked.

SPEAKER_00

Who's that?

SPEAKER_03

The sister that possessed Mia.

SPEAKER_00

So I saw 2013 in the theater as well when it came out. Really weird story. I think I've told it before about me and my friend Spencer, and then this girl we brought who like I don't know what she was expecting, but she she was so shocked by the level of gore and violence in this movie that she kept like laughing and looking at us, like not knowing how to react to it. It was a very weird experience. But anyway, um, I didn't remember, and I haven't seen them back to back like this, how closely the remake actually follows the original movie. It's like it's so close, it's so close. And I didn't even like even the the cast, like the number of girls versus boys there are, like you know, there's a tree scene, there's the camera, steady cam through the woods.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny that they did ended up doing that callback because literally, like my very first note was like opening makes me appreciate Raimi's sinister camera movements through the woods. And then I was like, Oh, but I do appreciate the role reversal in this with like full spoilers, uh thinking yeah, full spoilers running from somebody, and then it turns out she's the possessed one. That was a great little like flip.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then uh, but then they go back later though, and they do like at the end give you that Raimi through the woods shot, and it was like, okay, like they really like. I mean, obviously he was a producer on it, but it felt like this uh Frederico Alvarez was like saying Federico. His name is Federico, that's what it says on his wiki.

SPEAKER_00

No, it says Fede.

SPEAKER_03

Freddie.

SPEAKER_00

F-E-D-E.

SPEAKER_03

On his wiki.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Frederico, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Fede Federico.

SPEAKER_00

I'm such a piece of shit white man right now. I'm going to edit all that out.

SPEAKER_03

That's okay because you're saying Fede, and I'm saying Freddy, and then his name is Federico Federico.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, go ahead. You were you were saying.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but yeah, there were so many, like, just like well, it was funny because then immediately, like, I was like, uh, why didn't like where's the fucked up bridge that they're driving the car across? And that didn't happen.

SPEAKER_00

But then it was like the necklace, the sister drawing, like well, there was the flood that was like blocking the road, which is similar. So it ended up like still coming back to that, but they had the shot of the the bench sort of with the car in the background. They did that again, which right when you're pulling up. Yeah, yeah. I remember really liking the remake when I saw in the theaters the first time, but it's funny. What like it doesn't, I don't know. There's it's not great. I think like I don't care about anybody in this movie.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And what I think was is charming about Raimi's one, obviously it's low budget, so like you have to like let that be a thing about it. Like, it there's so much intentionalness in the way that he's shooting it and the way that he's doing things that like it's kind of funny, right? Like, and you haven't seen Evil Dead 2, which is we're gonna do next week, which I'm like, are we doing that next week? Maybe not. Yeah, yeah. Which is like one of my favorite movies, and I'll be very interested to how you feel about that. Um, because Raimi can be polarizing, but that's much more of like a comedy than the original one.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, I mean I feel like the original one is a comedy, like maybe not intentionally, but it's just it's Sam Raimi. It's ridiculous, and like but this one it's weird because it like it made the same movie, but it made it serious, but then still tried to do like the ridiculous amounts of violence, but it was serious violence, so it was like like I yeah, they're like especially that scene where she's like cutting her mouth open.

SPEAKER_00

Um I feel like what I like about the original one is because you're like introduced it in this campy way, like when the ridiculous stuff happens, you you're kind of more accepting of it. Like I liked how in the original one all of the possessed people are sort of like like taunting them and just like being weird. You know what I mean? It's not necessarily like being creepy, it's like they're just being weird. Yeah, and in this new one, they're being more creepy with it, but I I think it loses something. Like I don't feel like creeped out at all. I feel almost more creeped out in the first one where like they're just being like, I don't know what you're about to do. Like, there's a shot of like his girlfriend, like when she's possessed, just like sitting on the floor, like smiling. I'm like, this is un like what are you about to do? Are you guys just gonna put up with this person just sitting down on the ground, clearly possessed, while you have a conversation? Versus in this new one where like when they get possessed, there's nothing who's possessing them. They do you know what I mean? Like, I don't know, it's hard to describe it. Yeah, it's like I don't know, they have no personality, which is a weird thing to say, but there's they're just being scary or trying to be.

SPEAKER_03

It literally was like the original was great, let's do all of it, but let's make it really scary for a modern audience. But like I didn't walk away from it being like, ooh, I was scared. I walked away from it being like, ooh, it wasn't as fun, and honestly, it was like really gross at points.

SPEAKER_00

Did you feel were there moments in the first one, in the original one where you felt scared?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, actually, the the porch hitting the wall, the swing porch swing. Um it like that's creepy. Like they said because you got that like initial opening shot, which did feel amateur-ish and probably would be way better on a crane, but because you got that like sinister through the woods shot, um, you were you're in the peripheral of this entity that's like hunting these kids, and so it sets the tone really well. Where like this opening was like, oh, fun twist, but it didn't make the environment something that you need to fear.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And that's what the first one does so well is make it a fearful environment. When you can't see what's happening, you still feel like something's wrong.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think part of that too is like something about the way that even when it's like a obviously low budget thing, like the way that Sam Raimi is shooting it. I don't know. I'm just more engaged with it in a way. Like, even just the shots of the recorder happening, you know, like the super close-up of the recorder where it's like a wide angle, and you're just like, I it feels sort of purposefully campy in a way.

SPEAKER_03

And I really liked um like I prefer like listening to that recording and like the tape and like stumbling on this thing without realizing it more so than this nerdy being like, What is he doing?

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna read this book.

SPEAKER_00

This whole thing is his fault.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and like it's funny, it is his fault. And I was like, Man, that kid keeps getting fucked up by everybody, and then I was like, Oh yeah, but just he did start this.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, I could not watch him like getting stabbed with that syringe in the eye. That was I could not watch that.

SPEAKER_03

He got really brutalized.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. What did you think about like we're this is gonna be all over the place, I guess. Fuck it, I like this in the remake. They do this thing with the sister where she's like trying to quit drugs.

SPEAKER_03

I thought that was a clever in for modernizing it and being like, like, okay, like we can like not believe her because she's detoxing, so the hallucinations are in her head. So I thought that was actually a pretty clever in.

SPEAKER_00

I think that was the one thing I I wish they kind of handled it a little bit better, but I thought it was a clever way to be like, this person's losing their mind, and and and nobody because in other hormones you're like, why is no one taking her seriously, or why is no one taking to the hospital? You know what I mean? Like, this seemed like a way to do that. Um, yeah, I agree with that, I guess. I guess I just it was one of those groups of people where I'm like, why are you guys friends? Like, you don't have any chemistry with each other.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's no the only people who had chemistry were the brother and sister who have first you're like, are they a couple or are they brother and sister?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And as like an ash replacement, though, like he's not but you knew right away that he wasn't gonna be the new Ash because she, when there's in the back of the house and she says something about like, Promise me you'll like see this through the end, and he says, like something along the lines of Cross My Heart of Hope to Die. And I was like, Oh, he dead.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I do like that this movie we ended up with a final girl, kind of.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, it was nice to have a final girl instead of um a rebirth of Ash, because Ash is so iconic that you're not gonna remake that character. Sorry, Shiloh, you're a great actor and very handsome, but you're not gonna be Ash.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure he knew that. I mean, I I think they're well, you'll see once you watch, because you've never seen the second one. Once you watch the second one, you're gonna be like, and maybe we will watch Army of Darkness at some point.

SPEAKER_03

I built it into the schedule. That's why that's why I doubled up on this. I was like, fuck it. If we're like, we said we'd do franchises and we really haven't besides Scream. So I was like, fuck it, the new Evil Dead's coming out. You love these movies. I haven't seen any of them but the first, so let's go. Let's do the whole franchise.

SPEAKER_00

All right, hell yeah, then you'll see. Like Ash is just one of those cinematic characters like the Terminator that people can visualize instantly. But I will say, in this movie, in the remake at least, it was kind of a they added in elements from Evil Dead 2 as well, and you'll and you'll see that when you watch the next one, because there was the chainsaw is a big part of Evil Dead 2.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, well, I know that the chainsaw is a big thing, like not from the original, but I know that it becomes a big thing because I just remember the promotion for the show Ash vs. the Evil Dead, which was like what like five, six, seven years ago. And he I'm pretty sure he's got a chainsaw hand now.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

So I I knew as soon as I saw them fucking with that chainsaw that that was like the iconic becomes Ash's weapon of choice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. There was also a little nod with the with the hand sort of infection in the remake.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, when she cut her own fucking hand off. You'll see that was intense.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That was when you watch Evil Dead 2. I want you to think in your mind this is a comedy. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like I will. Chloe's like so excited for us to watch it. She loves it. Yeah. Oh, good. Okay, yeah. Remember, I was like telling you, like, she like loves Sam Raimi, and I was like shocked that like she never knows like directors or actors by name, but she's like, Oh yeah, Sam Raimi makes great films. And I'm like, What?

SPEAKER_00

That's awesome. She needs to be on this podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so one thing that uh you you mentioned was that like you didn't care about any of the characters in the remake or thought that they had any chemistry.

SPEAKER_00

But not even, but I don't really in the first one either.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I was gonna ask. Is if you thought they did it in the first one, because I kind of felt that way too. But you don't expect that from an interesting one.

SPEAKER_00

You don't expect it, but I do think that there it is there. Like, I do like he gives his girlfriend the necklace, which is the ugliest necklace of all time. Yeah, and it's super long. And she's like, I'll wear this every day. I'm like, with it.

SPEAKER_03

I can't remember this. I remember it being like a magnifying glass, and I was like, is they're gonna they're gonna light something on fire with it. Did they do that in the first one?

SPEAKER_00

No, he he uses it to like that's why it has to be long, I think, to like grab the book. Oh, that's right, and like grapple it in so he can burn it.

SPEAKER_03

But it is the ugliest necklace of all time. Like I thought for sure the only reason it was like an ugly ass magnifying glass was they so could start a fire with it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, look.

SPEAKER_03

Let's see if it comes back and Evil Dead burns. Maybe it does. Is it burns or burn? Evil Dead Burn.

SPEAKER_00

I think it's burn, yeah. Um I I agree. I think, but I do think that there is you're right, you don't expect it in that one, but there somehow is more personality. I believe they're friends. You know what I mean? Like I believe I don't believe they're friends in this one.

SPEAKER_03

Well, but the but but that's they're showing you that there is a rift in the friendship because the brother disappeared when his mom was dead.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um but the problem is that they don't give you any like they're like the two guys could be like when they're in the basement, like have some sort of like memory that they kind of like laugh at for a second and then like go back to like the tension to like have that like softness for a moment, like a like a just a minute of being like, oh, like these people have deeply cared about each other, and it it's not just these people are all angry at each other and they're here because this girl's on drugs and they're gonna tie her to a chair and not let her leave.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I also thought it was sort of weird how like when when we when we meet the girl, the drug addict, I don't remember her name, um, she seems kind of put together as if like she's already kind of detoxed, right? When she especially when she's like pouring the drugs down the the well or whatever. But then for her to switch, like I she's like, You're gonna stay with me till the end, right, brother? And he's like, Of course, cross my heart. And then like two minutes, two minutes later, she's like, I gotta leave. I gotta leave out of here. I gotta get out of here. And I'm just like, what you are you fucking kidding me right now?

SPEAKER_01

But she immediately was feeling the dead.

SPEAKER_00

True. Let's talk about what the remake tries to do that the original one does better. First of all, I gotta know, like, what's your like I think it's a little fucked up now. This tree rape scene that happens.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I was glad that it was just a tree attack and not a tree rape.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it does rape her. I don't mean you were watching on your phone, but it it that little slimy thing it did rape her again. Yeah, but it's more like a it seems more like its own separate thing, and it like goes up her leg and then it goes inside of her.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Oops, missed that. I mean, I knew she was like all caught up in shit, and then I knew there was like a moment where she was like, and so I was like, oh, maybe the tree, I don't know, but I didn't see it.

SPEAKER_00

So I think you missed it. Yeah, it's very similar. It's a little more graphic, I think, in the first and the original. What's cool about that scene, regardless of whether I think it should be included in any other remake that happens, um, is that the way that they got the tree branches in the in the OG one with Rami's one to like spiral was like they they filmed it in reverse, I'm pretty sure. So like they spiral it and then they pulled it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

So it looks like it's like like getting off your arm and stuff. Yeah, which is pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I like the idea of being attacked by a plant that is horrific. It happens in poultry geist as well.

SPEAKER_02

Happens in uh scary movie too as well.

SPEAKER_00

I guess my question about this is like let's compare them. Maybe this is the wrong scene to do it too.

SPEAKER_03

Let's compare rape scenes. What about let's compare tree rapes?

SPEAKER_00

What do you think about like the look of them once they put were pres possessed? Because one of my favorite favorite things about the original Evil Dead is when they lock the girl in the basement who's possessed, and she's like looking at them the whole time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, coming up from the yeah.

SPEAKER_00

First of all, I gotta say, I watched this for the first time when I was like a junior in high school, and I was it was like super late at night. I was by myself, the lights were out. I, in the last like 30 minutes of this movie, when Ash is all totally alone and everyone else is either dead or possessed, was freaking out, terrified about this movie. Like, I was like, I where is everybody? Like, I'm scared. What's gonna happen? Um, but I remember specifically this sh these shots of her like just watching them, especially when it's like from her point of view, and she's like watching the everyone like have conversations and stuff from the thing. Like, that's such a cool thing that creeps me out. I don't think they even get anywhere close in this new movie. No, in the remake, at least.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, she looks she looks great, and she looks creepy for sure. Jane Levy, Levy, whatever it is. Um, she's too hot. She's a great actress, but even possessed, she's hot. Yeah. She does have the sexy blood. When I was watching the blood rain, I was like, Ben's gonna love the sexy blood rain.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it's such a random. We were talking about Insend Help when we reviewed that about all the vomit. Like, there's plenty of blood vomit in this movie, right?

SPEAKER_03

This movie, like gross, like it's a gross movie. It is. I, you know, like I definitely lean more into either comedy, horror, or I don't know, just like gratuitous violence is not my thing. And I do think I when I I remember seeing this one and thinking it was really scary and really liking it, but I was also God, how old was I in my 20s? Yeah, um so it was like more fun then to like where now I'm like uh it's too much. I don't need that. Like the first one is great, and it like feels like a bastardization of it, trying to be like, let's take this like brilliant about the original, yeah. Like, let's take this campy, fun, like film and like try to make it serious, and it's like it it's soul stilling a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. I think I think that's what the difference between this Evil Dead movie, this remake, and the and the leave of the original one was like you can tell that it was made by people who who are having fun and and love film, right? And they're doing a lot of clever things with it, which I think is easy to take for granted nowadays. There's sorry, there's a fly in here.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I've been watching it fly around your head for a while. Oh, really?

SPEAKER_00

Um and I think what it the new one sort of misses, it doesn't have that, it tries to be scary, it tries to be serious, and I get what they were trying to do, but it at the end of the day, to me, it's sort of it and I like this when it first time I saw it. I I have a sort of a different opinion of it now. It's doing the Texas Chainsaw Friday the 13th remake sort of thing, right? Where they're trying to like it's got the same sort of aesthetic to it, it doesn't have its own identity, it's trying to creep you out. And it's because it's trying so hard to do that, it doesn't really. It's it's gross, you know what I mean? But it's I'm not as creeped out as I was when I'm watching Raimi's. And Raimi even like that shot of like the mirror where he touches it and it's like liquid. Oh, it's such a cool thing because like he has the you know, he has the shot of him like in front of it reaching for it, and then they cut. Obviously, he must be looking at the floor, touching a pool of water, but it's so seamless, it's so cool. But this movie doesn't have anything like that in it. Um like I don't love the kills. I do like the last like 15 minutes of the movie though, when she's running from herself. Yeah, I think that's the best part of the movie.

SPEAKER_03

Um at first I I was confused that. I was like, well, I shouldn't well she it's herself that when she's in like the rapey vines, right? She's like seeing herself, yeah. Um, is it?

SPEAKER_00

I don't I couldn't tell in that.

SPEAKER_03

I assume that was herself, but then like later, like I couldn't figure out who was chasing her at the end. And I was like, I think it was for a minute I thought their friend was their mom.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, you can't watch movies with the on your phone anymore.

SPEAKER_03

No, I won't I won't do it again.

SPEAKER_00

But I was confused too because if you if you're paying attention to the book when they show shots of the book, there's a there's a drawing of somebody with long black hair coming out of the ground, as if like I saw that, and then you see, yeah. So I think it's like that entity, but looking as herself to like freak her out, like it's using her own image against her, it's choosing to do that. I don't think it's supposed to necessarily look like her. That's my interpretation of that.

SPEAKER_03

Got it. Yeah, I was like, I don't know who the fuck that is, and then I thought maybe it was the the nurse friend. Did not know who it was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was I think it was supposed to be her. I think this opening scene is completely useless.

SPEAKER_03

It is, it's just for the fun twist.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But I like how it's like to make it to make us believe that she's the victim at first, they have to make like her captures like po dung, like ding-ding-ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.

SPEAKER_00

Which I I can't help but think of like Cabin in the Woods, where they kind of use this sort of like redneck family as the main force that's chasing them throughout most of the movie, right? Yeah, it had to come from this sort of right.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Which movie do you like more?

SPEAKER_03

The original. The original, I would be like, oh, it's a classic. Every Halloween we gotta throw it on. The remake, um, I remember, you know, I've said, like, I remember thinking it was scary when I saw it almost 20 years ago. Went back, saw it, and I was like, like, now I just watch so much goddamn horror that I don't think I get scared very easy anymore. I have not jumped in a movie besides the fucking birds and backrooms, like literally in weeks, months, haven't jumped in a movie.

SPEAKER_00

When you said the birds, I was like, you just watch the birds?

SPEAKER_03

Nope, nope. The birds the seagulls and the backrooms opening like that was like the one like, ooh, well, and in the car scene and obsession, but like like actually being scared in a movie. I haven't been scared in a movie since we've started this podcast.

SPEAKER_00

That was sort of my bummer watching the original Evil Dead because, like I said earlier, like I was so scared the first time I watched it. Watching it now, I was like, Well, this is funnier than I remember, and I don't feel as scared, and I'm bummed by that.

SPEAKER_03

But like, I think it's a great one where I'm like having a kid, I'm like, okay, when he's like 13 and having a couple friends over, and they want to watch a scary movie. This is one that I would put on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I agree with that. What are like, are there specific moments like which which versions, original Evil Dead or the new one, like the the way that they're possessed, did you prefer?

SPEAKER_03

That's a tough one because I probably I want to say the remake, because it actually was like creepy, but then I think about the one where the was she even a cheerleader, the chick sitting on the floor in the first one who's like, I don't think she's a cheerleader, but that's what freaks me out.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she was funny. There's also that shot of that one girl like floating by the window, and she's all like faces all messed up, you know?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It like the first one has more of an obsession type possession where it's like shit's off, but you're not realizing it's dangerous right away. And that almost makes it scarier because you're like, you're acting fucking weird, but I'm not expecting you to be fucking stabbing yourself in the face in the bathroom. Where the other one, like, it's like, oh yeah, you are exactly what I expect you to be, and I know to be terrified. Like it's it's more fun to play with horror when you don't know to fear the threat as badly as it is.

SPEAKER_00

Or do you think it's one of the really yeah, one of the really cool things you'll notice when you're watching this like original Evil Dead stuff is like there's this weird thing that happens a lot where like there'll be the growth grotesque uh possessed version of themselves and then they'll flip back to like the completely normal. So it'll go from like fucked up like skin and face and everything to like completely fine. And they go back and forth in such a like jarring way where you're like, oh my god, this thing's fucking psychotic. Oh, it's it's the sweet thing again. Like I don't feel that in this movie. I just feel like it's sort of a slightly scary version of the of the actors that are being possessed, and that they I feel like they don't really sh even show them very much when they're doing the like sensitive, like, why are you doing this to me voice? Exactly, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Although I did like the the shot of Mia as he's burying her with the bag over her head and she's talking to him. I really enjoyed that moment. That was a good one. But I also was like, I had to laugh at the stupidity of it being like, okay, I have to kill her, but I've got all I've got a battery, and I've got some hypodermic needles and the way he McGyvered that, I was like, could I do this?

SPEAKER_00

It's my friend's dying. Can I just get some syringes? Because I got tons of syringes because I'm diabetic, not a drug addict. But like, could I jam those into someone's heart, connect it to a car battery, and be fine and bring them back to life? I loved that about that. That scene should belong in like a Raimi movie. Do you know what I mean? Like that scene in a Raimi movie would feel more natural than in this movie. Because you're right, that doesn't make any fucking sense.

SPEAKER_03

Like, literally, like it's was like this MacGyver like montage, and then I was like, so wait, he just like hooked up some uh syringes to a car battery.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Stabbed her heart, I guess.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Like, like I could get with the idea of like, okay, you've got like, you know, your adrenaline shots or whatever, and you've got you know, battery. Like, I believe something could be believable in that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But his little like tool that he made, his little machine, was like fucking ridiculous.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Like, there's nothing memorable about the remake. Do you know what I mean? And and what I mean is like when I was a kid and I watched the original Evil Dead, you know, the shitty shots of the of the trekking shots through the forest were by the way, it's like they were so low budget. It was two guys with like a makeshift steady cam, like basically a plank of wood just running through the woods.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you can tell that it's not a steady cam.

SPEAKER_00

But it looks but it looks cool. Like it looks cool.

SPEAKER_03

It's a realistic perspective of someone or something running through the forest.

SPEAKER_00

It's not the smooth exactly. Like there's something about it that just works for that film. Yeah. Whereas I feel like I think about that image, and you'll see that image again in the sick in the second one, right? Like I there's no scene in this movie except maybe her cutting her face that I like remember. Do you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_03

Like, I do remember because I was looking for that Raimi shot in the opening scene, and then they do the the family twist or whatever, and then um the next shot of like getting us into our actual characters is like a upside down aerial shot of the forest as they're driving on the road, and it was very dizzying, and I was like, okay, like they're obviously trying to like do something cool here, but it's just making me nauseous, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I also don't like understand why we had to have a dog in this movie just to kill.

SPEAKER_03

I know, I hate that. Poor grandpa.

SPEAKER_00

Why did we do that?

SPEAKER_03

Why is that to show how evil evil really is?

SPEAKER_00

The dog's in two scenes. Hey dog, let me pet you, and then dead. That's it. There's no reason for that dog to be there. Yeah, they should have had the dog maybe reacting to like somebody differently, right? Like, oh, you're possessed now, I'm gonna bark at you a lot or something. Like, maybe when she comes back, like the dog's like Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I wonder if that was done and cut from the film.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe it was. Maybe it was. Oh, that scene where she's burning herself in the shower. Yeah, that was intense. I've never seen a shower heater like that before. That was crazy. I didn't like the look of the book either. Like the book of the dead, I guess. I don't know what you call it. The oh, what's it called? It's called um shit. What's it called?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just thought it was called the Book of the Dead.

SPEAKER_00

It's like the Necron Namakron. Necron Necron Namak. I don't know. Fuck it. Um anyway, the look of the book I didn't think was great in this either. Like, I I don't really love that the remake is like part of me likes that it's like it's such a remake, like it's doing exactly the same scenes, but they're just if you're gonna do a remake like that you gotta do it better. Like, I don't necessarily think that any of the scenes that they're redoing in this are better than the original.

SPEAKER_03

No, they just try to make it more extreme, but they were just yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But did they though? I don't know. I mean it was more grounded, I guess.

SPEAKER_03

That I don't like too. Like, I I appreciated when Joey was on and he was talking about how you know his movie needed to be shorter, he knows when he needs to like end a film and not drag it on. And with this one, like I hate when it's like, oh, the brother saved the sister, yay, it's the end. Nope, just kidding. Oh, the brother blew the house up, but blew up with it, yay, it's the end. Nope, just kidding. Now she's gotta fight her demonic self. Like, like, I'm just like, just done the fucking movie. I don't need three endings.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It was also very quick how like each person sort of met their end. Like the girl that you said was one for from one of Tree Hill or whatever, like she like cut her face open and then like attacked that dude, and then she was just not in the movie anymore.

SPEAKER_03

Well, he like fucking. Oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_00

He did he did fuck her up.

SPEAKER_03

But he did not die quick, and he was like, I like how it was like she like stabbed the shit out of him, and then the brother's like, here, let me put this tape over your heart that you got stabbed in.

SPEAKER_00

That shot of him pulling the needle out of his fucking eye. I don't know how they did that. Look it up when he's pulling the syringe that broke off in his eye, and he's like pulling it out. It's like it's like coming with his like the skin's coming out. Like, that was crazy.

SPEAKER_04

That's gross.

SPEAKER_00

I don't like it. I did like I do like in the original how like he like disappears, that character, and then he comes back all just like fucked up. You don't even know what happened to him, and he's just like, it's fucked up out there. You're like, Why is your arm broken? Why are you bloody? What is happening right now? Um, by the way, I don't know if you know this, but uh, I think Joel Cohen of the Cohen brothers was the editor on the original Evil Dead. Really? And that's how him and Sam Raimi met. And he got the idea with him and his brother, based on how Raimi basically financed Evil Dead, to do uh Blood Simple, their first movie together, where they like basically went around and like tried just like brought a bunch of money together from a bunch of different people and stuff and made that movie too.

SPEAKER_04

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's so cool. It's so cool when you like this happens a lot in Hollywood. I don't know how I guess it makes sense. Like two people nowadays that we we consider like these great you know, filmmakers from film history or whatever, like knew each other when they were just first starting on and inspired one another. I think that's so cool. And like obviously for Raimi to go on and direct at the time, like the biggest movie of all time, right? Spider-Man, like that was like the biggest uh box office of all time when it came out, it's crazy to me that he started with this fucking movie.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny to me that he's such a horror guy who goes into Spider-Man.

SPEAKER_00

I know it's so weird, but now once you watch Evil Dead 2, and if you ever do, and I know you hate Toby McGuire, watch the original Spider-Man, you're gonna see so many similarities, like stylistically in their filmmaking, once you see these two movies, because it just works. Like he's got such a specific way that he shoots things.

SPEAKER_01

He's like, I'm gonna shoot it as if I've got a camera dangling from a web flying through the sand.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. I mean, if you look, even if you think about the shot of you know the possessed person in the basement with the chain, like looking around from her perspective, like that's sort of similar. Like he's he loves to like put the camera in weird places. Um, and you'll see that in the second one a lot. Um, is this a good episode?

SPEAKER_03

I I actually think it is. Sometimes I think when it's filling like a dud, there's still like actually like a lot of stuff there. I think it's just like what I'm learning as we go along with recording is like if a film has a lot of subtext, we can have a long conversation. Or if it's something like Scream, where it's like super fans who know like all the backstory and the history. But if it's just going in and being like, here's a campy horror film and here's a remake of it, um, there's just not as much substance to talk about, but it doesn't mean the episodes don't have value.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think it's well, it depends. I think a lot of like normies who like movies, they don't care like about what I care about, where it's like I care about Sam Raimi moving the camera and doing these cool things, putting it here and putting it there, and then using this weird wide angle lens. And we could spend the whole episode talking about because that's what to me, that's what makes that movie unique. As a film nerd, if you watch that movie when you're into film, that's the stuff you're noticing with the original one, right? Like, you don't really care about the story, you don't care about like Evil Dead, what does that mean? Who are these possessed people? Who, what's this entity? You don't ever ask that question because you're so wrapped up in like all of the camera stuff. You're right. Like you were saying it earlier where it's like you don't care about the characters in the new one, but you don't really care about the characters in the old one, but you don't expect to. And it's like that, it's because you what you're expecting is sort of to be presented with something that film people would would respond to. And I always wonder if I showed that movie to someone who's like likes movies, but not as like a film nerd, would they even like the original Evil Dead? I don't I don't necessarily think they would.

SPEAKER_03

I feel though like anybody who just likes scary, like like you don't even have to be like a horror movie lover, but if it's like on Halloween you watch a couple scary movies, I think this is definitely like a really solid. Go to just for a good romp with the Book of the Devil.

SPEAKER_00

The Book of the Devil. By the way, do you know his that car in it? That like yellow car that he has. Hang on, in the original, it's a 1973 Old Mobile, Delta 88. That car is in every single Sam Raimi movie.

SPEAKER_03

So he's a car guy. He's got a thing for that car specifically.

SPEAKER_00

But it's sometimes it's like in like the very far background. Like you wouldn't even see it. But that car he puts in every single movie. Why? Is it like it was like his car?

SPEAKER_03

Is it like the Stephen King, like what's that car? Honda possessed car, Christine.

SPEAKER_00

I think it was his car. Um see if it says here. Yeah, it was Sam Raimi's car. His father bought it brand new in 1973, and he included it as a good luck Easter egg in almost every single film. So it is his actual car. Spider-Man, Drag Me to Hell, Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness is in every single one of his movies.

SPEAKER_03

I love that he kept his first car ever and still has it.

SPEAKER_00

I know. I wish I had my first car ever. What was your first car?

SPEAKER_03

It was a 1986 Honda Accord stick shift. And I like driving to high school every day. I had to go up what felt like a hill, but it really wasn't. But I like was colorable stick. Oh, it was got god ugly tan.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, this looks awesome.

SPEAKER_03

You looking it up? Let me see.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I don't remember the year of mine, but it was uh Ford Tempo. I think it was like in 1993.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe Ford Tempo.

SPEAKER_00

It was green.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. All these kasbakers from back in the day.

SPEAKER_00

I loved it, dude. It had these analog buttons on it. Nice. One of the buttons literally just said the word floor on it, which obviously was like to put the air con the heater on the floor out of the floor vents or whatever. But like my friends.

SPEAKER_03

Like well, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So my friend Chris would always be like, floor it, dude. And you would hit the button. It's pretty funny.

SPEAKER_03

The day that I got my license, I took my stick that I couldn't drive through the Burger King parking lot and I flooded the engine. And so then all the employees had to come out and push my car through the drive-thru because I was backing up the Burger King line.

SPEAKER_00

Do you know what's weird is I'm always worried that I'm gonna break down in the drive-thru line.

SPEAKER_02

Oh well, they'll just come push you up. No biggie.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Throw it in neutral and everybody will just push you right on through because they still call me.

SPEAKER_00

People are nice there. I live in LA. People will be like, what the fuck, dude? You idiot. What notes do you have written down?

SPEAKER_03

Um, I wrote down my stuff about the opening scene and then the upside down aerial shot, and then um I I I loved the I love this original movie.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it's not the movie I watch all the time, but like I loved when she's sitting there drawing the clock, and then like her she gets possessed and she starts drawing the book in in the original one. And like, as scribbly and as chaotic as that is, it still looks exactly like the book with like the face on it. You know what I mean? Like, I was like, she must be really good at drawing because like it's a bad drawing on, but it but it is exactly what it needs to be, um, which I really loved. This had to be a fun movie to shoot. Like, imagine being like in your 20s, you're out there in the woods with your friends with a camera, and you're just like making this fucking horror movie that will be remembered forever. Like, that's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

I try. I have when I head to Montana in two weeks to my cabin, I have a bunch of friends coming up, and every time I have friends up there, I'm like, can we please just have a couple drinks and go run through the woods and make a scary movie?

SPEAKER_00

Nice. You should do it.

SPEAKER_03

I want to.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Write it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I better do that.

SPEAKER_00

No tree rape.

SPEAKER_03

I got 14 days.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there you go. Well, right while you're there.

SPEAKER_03

Well, then we won't have time to film it. I've got like three days to film it.

SPEAKER_00

I think about that too when I'm at my parents' place. That but yours is more remote. Um actually, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

It's like 20 minutes outside of Helena, which is the capital.

SPEAKER_00

That's weird that we both have like family lake houses in different states.

SPEAKER_02

On opposite sides of the country.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I have a note here too. I love in the original how when they're listening to the recording and it's like saying the ritual that brings this entity to life, it cuts outside, and all of a sudden it goes from like that lo-fi tape recorder sound to like this full reverb, like voice. That's like it's like and I told for and then it's like and then I it's like it's it's so cool. The little touches that he thinks about. Um, anyway, I guess I don't have much more to say about this movie. I guess if this is a versus episode, I'm I'm surprised. I've only seen this remake one other time. I remember liking it, even though it was a weird experience being in that theater. Doesn't hold up as well as I remember. And I would much rather watch the original one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'd agree. I think probably in 2013, it was great at the time for what it was. Yeah. Um we're also watching it in a time when horror has been pretty fucking amazing. So it's like it's either gotta have something really special and unique to be holding up, or it's gotta be like this new brilliant thing. Otherwise, like all these other ones are just like, yeah, it's fine.

SPEAKER_00

It's sort of the original one sort of like started this genre though, right? Like in a way we're like, hang on. Get that fly. Dude, what the hell? Um like Cabin Fever, obviously, famous horror movie in a cabin, hence the name. Um Cabin in the Woods, Friday the 13th. That probably came out before Evil Dead.

SPEAKER_03

I love Cabin Horror.

SPEAKER_00

Cabin Horror is great.

SPEAKER_03

It is.

SPEAKER_00

We should do Cabin in the Woods at some point.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I actually really want to do that one because I remember the time I've only seen it once. I was probably in my mid to late 20s. Uh it was like a boys' night, and I was just the one chick tagging along with the boys, and then we like went back to the house, and then everyone was like, This movie's so fucking great, you gotta see it. And I was like, What the fuck? Um, and now I think I have a very different appreciation of it. Oh, you don't like it? You didn't like it. I liked moments of it. Um but at the time I remember just like like they were like brow out and hyping it up so much and being like, ah, isn't that so fucking funny? Like, look at the opening. Like, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, that sounds like me. Did you watch this movie with me?

SPEAKER_01

Felt like it was.

SPEAKER_00

Are you excited for our Evil Dead marathon here?

SPEAKER_03

I am. Okay. I'm excited that um well, I'm excited for the Sam Raimi ones.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. When you're trying to take a franchise and IP and use the IP to make money, it's just it's just not gonna work. I guess maybe this is a Sam Raimi produced thing. But still, like I don't know. If you're into film, Evil Dead 2, especially, and Army of Darkness, all three of them really, are in your DNA. Do you know what I mean? It's a film nerd shit, is what those movies are. You know what I mean? Like it's a good thing. Well, listen, when I was a kid, you couldn't just go on the internet and find any movie you wanted. You had to go fucking rent a movie, and so you'd be at school and you'd be talking with the other film nerd friends, and they'd be like, Yo, have you not seen Evil Dead 2? And you'd be like, No, and he'd be like, hang on, and he'd go get his DVD of it, give it to you, you would take it home, and you'd fucking watch it and be like, This movie blew my mind. Oh my god. Because like you weren't distracted by your phone, you weren't distracted by the internet, you weren't distracted by like you put in a DVD into a player, hit play, and then you just sat there and watched it with full focus. It was the greatest experience ever. Like every great movie that influenced me, I can remember, is I watched in high school because of film nerd shit. Film nerd shits, you know, the thing, Pulp Fiction, all that shit. I wouldn't have watched that if it wasn't for my friends who were also.

SPEAKER_03

I remember just so many times in high school being like, I'm a I'm a film person, so I'd watch like these brilliant movies that I just like did not get. And I was like, Isn't it amazing?

SPEAKER_00

You're supposed to think this is amazing. I feel like some of those movies you watch them now, you'd realize why. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. I've like gone back and re-watched many and like have like my solid appreciation for them, but I was very much somebody who would like talk about the movies you were supposed to talk about, but like not understand it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Me too. I mean, I even even now at 40, I'm like, oh, I'm just noticing something about this. That's I get it now. I was just lying to myself when I was 19. Um anyway, yeah. So this was Evil Dead versus no, this was the Evil Dead versus Evil Dead the remake. Um let us know what you think. Let us know what you which one you like more. You know? You can follow us at slasher bash underscore pod.

SPEAKER_02

Something like that.

unknown

Don't what is it? I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

How do you not know? I don't know. I mean, look up slasher bash on Instagram, you'll find us.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Are you posting any Evil Dead shit or planning to?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'll post lots of shit for it. I post to promote every movie we do.

SPEAKER_00

You should do like a versus one. That'll call that'll that'll stir up some conversation.

SPEAKER_03

Make me some creative for it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, yeah, I'll do that. Because it's also an iconic post. We didn't even talk about that. The poster's iconic too. You know, the blue background with the girl like sticking her hand up. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, you just know it. You just know it's like in so much shit. Um, all right, cool. Well, that's it for this week.

SPEAKER_03

So I have a fun little idea for how we should start ending these episodes. Oh, okay. When it works. So we've started going with uh go get 'em cuz again. Yep. Uh, and in this movie, the original, no, it was the remake. There was like a cheesy one-liner like that. So I was like, whenever one of us pulls oh grabs a one-liner from a movie we're doing, that should be how we end it. And then that'll just be the ending until somebody pulls a new one. I love it. So I'm gonna end it with my favorite one-liner from the remake.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Am I supposed to say it with you? No, we were just cutting it out then.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, who said that?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, the main chick did when she's fighting herself.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, when she sticks the chainsaw in its mouth.

SPEAKER_03

And yeah, and then yeah, dude.

SPEAKER_00

I gotta say, we didn't talk about this. I'm talking about it right now. I don't care. I'm leaving all that in. That I love that. Where she's just like, you're right. It's the only one liner in the movie, and it's so evil dead. And then she just jams the chainsaw into its mouth. Like, I was like, and then they have like it's almost silhouetted against the background. I'm like, this is awesome. And she's like, What was the line again?

SPEAKER_03

Beast on this motherfucker.
