We were going to release Episode 6 this week.
Instead, this felt more honest.
In this special She Shed Reflection, Donna sits alone in the Shed and talks about something many women experience but rarely name out loud, what it feels like to come home to a quiet house.
The silence.
The space.
The relief.
The grief.
The strength.
The clarity.
What’s the difference between being alone and feeling lonely?
Why does sitting alone sometimes feel more peaceful than lying beside someone while feeling invisible?
And what happens when the noise stops and you’re left with yourself?
Raw, reflective, and deeply human, this episode explores emotional safety, independence, identity, and the quiet moments that reshape us.
Sometimes sitting alone isn’t loneliness.
Sometimes it’s the beginning of coming home to yourself.

Welcome to Sheep Shed Unfiltered. This is not a podcast for perfect women or polite conversations. This is for the women who've been divorced, dismissed, burnt out, betrayed, and still somehow managed to show up, get shit done, and keep everyone else still alive. There'll be laughter, there may be tears, and you might even say, did they really say that shit? Just real women, real stories, and the kind of honesty that usually happens after the second glass of wine. The first season of She Shed Unfiltered is about the things we learned the hard way. The lessons no one warned us about. The moments that changed us. Whether we were ready or not. Hi, I'm Donna, and Meg isn't here tonight. We told you episode six was dropping this week. And we're hoping it will. Not just where we originally planned. Meg and I recorded a powerful conversation about desire, about why women stop wanting sex, about emotional safety, and what shifts in long-term relationships. And when we listened back to it, the sound quality just wasn't where we need it to be. Not for what we're building here. So instead of forcing it out, I'm sitting alone in the shed tonight. And that feels honest. Because if I'm really honest, this past year of my life has included a lot of sitting alone. There's something about coming home to an empty house that hits differently. You open the door, no background noise, no one asking you how your day was, no movement in the kitchen, no TV on in the other room, just quiet. And at first, that quiet can feel like freedom. And then sometimes it feels like grief. And others, it kind of feels like both. I don't think we talk about this part enough. We talk about the leaving, we talk about the independence, we talk about empowerment, but we don't talk about the 9.30 p.m. quiet. We don't talk about the way your body notices the absence of another person in the room. You can love someone, you can build a life with someone, and still end up sitting alone in your own house wondering, who am I now? When Meg and I recorded the episode about desire, we talked about how women don't just lose interest. Desire doesn't disappear randomly, it disconnects. I've been thinking a lot about that word this week, disconnect. Because sometimes the disconnection doesn't just happen in the bedroom, it happens slowly, emotionally, internally, and you start to feel alone while someone lying beside you is snoring. And that kind of alone is different. It's heavier, it's confusing. And fuck, it makes you question yourself. And here's something I've realized. Sitting alone by choice feels very different than feeling alone in a relationship. One feels quiet, and the other feels like you're invisible. And if you spent months, years feeling invisible, that quiet can now feel like peace. That doesn't mean it isn't hard. There are nights I walk into my house and I feel strong, independent, capable. And then there are nights I walk in and I think, wow, this is really it.
SPEAKER_01It's just me. No one to talk to, no one to lean on, no one to hold. Just me.
SPEAKER_02And that can be confronting. Because when the noise stops, you meet yourself. And I've learned that sitting alone forces honesty. It forces you to ask, What do I really want? Not what's expected, not what keeps the peace, not what maintains stability. What do I want? And sometimes the answer isn't about another person at all. Sometimes it's about safety, emotional safety. The kind where your nervous system isn't bracing. The kind where you don't feel like you have to shrink. The kind where desire doesn't feel like obligation. Maybe that's why this episode felt right tonight. Because before we talk about wanting someone else, we have to talk about being able to sit with ourselves without distraction, without chaos, without performance. There's strength in sitting alone, and there's grief in it too. But there's also clarity. And clarity is powerful. Because once you know what safety feels like in your body, you can't unknow it. So if you're listening to this tonight in a quiet house, if you're navigating the space between who you were and who you're becoming, if you're lying beside someone but feeling miles away, you're not broken, you're not cold, you're not failing. You might just be waking up. Full conversation with Serena is coming, and it's important. But tonight this felt more important. The quiet, the honesty, and the part we don't post about. Sitting alone doesn't mean you're lonely. Sometimes it means you're finally meeting yourself. And that's where everything shifts. Thanks for sitting with me tonight. I'm gonna go make some popcorn for my dinner because I can. We'll be back soon.
