Hello, friend. Welcome back to The Hope Midwife Podcast.

If you’re listening on a break, in the car, or sitting in the parking lot trying to gather yourself before you walk in… trust me, this episode is for you.

Let’s take a moment together.

Breathe in… steady.
 Breathe out… release.
 Again—breathe in… steady.
 Breathe out… release.

Today’s tea is chamomile—soft comfort for your nervous system. A gentle reminder that you don’t have to carry today like a brick on your chest.

And as always, a quick tea disclaimer: anything mentioned is for comfort only—not medical advice. Please check with your provider if needed.

💛 Let’s Talk About It

I’ve been wanting to share this topic for a while… and honestly, it’s on the rise.

I’ve spoken with so many women—and men too—who are dealing with this. So today, we’re going to name it.

I hope this episode blesses you. And if it does, I’d love your feedback.

⚠️ What Is a Toxic Workplace?

A toxic workplace isn’t just a bad day, a busy season, or one difficult coworker.

A toxic workplace is where:

  •  Harmful behavior becomes normal
  •  Disrespect is tolerated
  •  Boundaries are punished
  •  Peace is treated like a weakness

And friend… if you’ve been there—I have too.

🚩 Signs You May Be in a Toxic Environment

You may feel like:

  •  You’re walking on eggshells
  •  You don’t know what version of people you’ll get

You may experience:

  •  Public embarrassment or being talked down to
  •  Blame culture instead of problem-solving
  •  Favoritism
  •  Gossip and division
  •  Constantly changing expectations
  •  Overwork where rest is judged

And your body will tell you:

  •  Headaches
  •  Insomnia
  •  Chest tightness
  •  Brain fog
  •  That constant dread

Let me say this clearly:

👉 If work consistently makes you feel small, unsafe, or on edge…
 That is not just stress.
 That is harm.

And if you’ve been asking, “Is it me?”
 Sometimes the answer is no.
 It’s the environment.

🧠 Is It You… or the System?

Ask yourself:

  •  Do I feel calm and capable in other areas of my life—but at work I feel panic and powerless?
  •  When I rest, do I recover… or still feel sick thinking about work?
  •  Are problems addressed fairly—or is there a pattern of targeting and silencing?

A healthy workplace has:

  1.  Clear expectations
  2.  Respectful communication
  3.  Accountability
  4.  Space to be human

Toxic workplaces have the opposite:
 Confusion. Fear. Pressure. Double standards.

And if you live with chronic illness?
 It hits even harder.

So if you’re tired—you’re not weak.
You may be overexposed to an environment draining your nervous system.

🌿 Your 3-Part Reset

1. Name It

Clarity is protective.

Say this:
 👉 “I’m not crazy. I’m noticing a pattern.”

Name:

  •  What happened
  •  How it impacted you
  •  What you need

Naming it doesn’t start a war.
 It stops gaslighting.

2. Build a Peace Plan

Start a private log:

  •  Date
  •  Time
  •  What happened
  •  Who was present

No emotion—just facts.

And yes—even what they were wearing if needed.

Because documentation protects you.

Communicate clearly:

  •  “I’ll follow up via email.”
  •  “Can you clarify expectations?”
  •  “I’m at capacity—what should I prioritize?”

If they won’t document it—you do.

3. Create an Exit Path

Even if you’re not leaving yet—create options.

  •  Update your resume weekly
  •  Apply quietly
  •  Consider transfers (if safe)
  •  Explore additional income

Set a timeline:
 👉 “If it doesn’t improve by ___, I pivot.”

Because your life deserves options.

💛 Truth You Need to Hear

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do…
is leave what is harming you.

Not because you failed—
 but because you’re choosing life.

🙏 A Word for You

If you’re listening…

You are not called to suffer in silence.
You are not required to shrink to survive.
You are not difficult for needing respect.

God sees you.
 God hears you.
 You are not alone.

And this is not the end of your story.

⚠️ Toxicity & Your Health

If you have a chronic condition, you may notice:

  •  Increased flare-ups
  •  Higher stress levels
  •  Poor sleep
  •  Physical symptoms worsening

Because toxicity affects your whole body—mind, body, and spirit.

🧠 Gaslighting & Bullying (Quick Truth)

Gaslighting makes you:

  •  Doubt what you saw or heard
  •  Feel confused and foggy
  •  Question your reality

Bullying is:

  •  Repeated
  •  Targeted
  •  Meant to intimidate or control

And neither is okay.

✅ Quick Toxicity Check

If you can say YES to 3 or more consistently:

  •  I feel dread before work
  •  Expectations constantly change
  •  I’m criticized more than coached
  •  I’m treated differently
  •  Boundaries are punished
  •  My body is reacting
  •  I feel the need to document everything

👉 That’s a strong sign.

🌿 Final Words

You matter.
 Your peace matters.
 Your life matters.

If you don’t have an exit plan—start one today.

And if this episode helped you, share it with someone who’s holding it together at work… but falling apart at home.
