Chapter thirteen Manic's Adaptation You can't be serious, right? Dane frustratingly shouted. If the city finds out that you just let the palace get destroyed, they'll kill us. Charlotte's head flips upside down without them noticing. Are you scared? Holly replied with a smirk. What? Of course I am. We're responsible for everything that happens here. Don't you remember what the mayor said? It's hard enough that I have to repair the doors. How's that going, by the way? Can you stay focused? Charlotte's head returns to its original position. If you let them fight, they'll tear this place down to the foundation. Holly gazes at Charlotte, who is running to her. Dan cringes at the sight of Charlotte, who jumps over Holly's shadow to reach her. Oh crap. Charlotte jumps into Holly's body. Dan cringes again and sweats profusely. Holly? Instantly. Cat ears and a tail emerge from her body as Charlotte says Hi there, Dante. Shlotte, you're supposed to keep that a secret. Don't worry so much. They can't hear us, Charlotte said, walking towards the entrance. Wha where are you going? She stops and replies. Chow and Molly are fighting, right? I want to see. Charlotte turns and stares at him. What are you gonna do? She smiles in response. I want to join in on the fun. What does that mean? I want to spark something in these mixed haired boys. See what they're capable of. She turns her back to him. Then I'll know how to deal with them. If they're an asset to the world or an enemy. You can't kill them, Charlotte. They're fa They're Holly's friends. She laughs and enters the palace. Dante runs inside, but doesn't see her. Instead, he sees Frida between Molly and Chow, saying This is ridiculous. There's no reason to fight. When a man is challenged by another, Chow states, it's best that you stay out the way. I won't let you hurt my friend. I know who you are. A killer from Dark Oblivion. Raja didn't use you for easy jobs. He saved those for the other members. You were close to him, and you were exclusively for killing. But you were never on Raja's side. From the beginning, you were gonna kill him, but the regime found the hideout and took you into custody. Frida knew this from her mother. She would teach her about parts of the world that were dangerous to be in, and why. Frida vividly remembers her mother teaching her about dark oblivion, because her mother used to do business with them. You know too much. Chow takes a step to Frida. What's happening? Frida thought. I'm not about to die, am I? He didn't even do anything yet. This feeling I'm dealing with a cold blooded killer. What was I thinking? Frida's eyes focus on Chow, who is holding Molly by the throat. He raises Molly, who grasps onto his wrist, trying to loosen the grip. Chow scoffs even with my explanation. You still think you have a chance against me? What's with you? I will corrupt you, suffocate you, and erase you by the very atom you're made of. Molly speaks raspily. I don't care who you are. I'll go down as a fighter for the ones I love. Really? Charlotte interrupts. Everyone gazes up at the ceiling to see Charlotte sitting with her legs crossed on a wooden beam, holding the ceiling of the palace. She continues Enough of this barbaric nonsense. She drops to the floor, stands, and continues. Let's play a little game, since you guys want to fight so bad. You two will start in a neutral position, so you'll have to put him down. She points to Molly. Chow obeys. You'll have three minutes to knock out your opponent. If you get knocked out, you must leave the palace. Frida gasps as Molly and Dante cringe. Chow crosses his arms and acts. Sounds interesting. But what if time runs out? That's the catch. If nobody is defeated, both of you will be expelled from the palace. Chow's left eye twitches. Fight with your heart and make it fun. She smiles. I get bored easily. That's unfair, Frida screamed. Charlotte turns to her as she continues. Chow is a murderer. Of course he'll win. What's the point of this? Why are you doing this, Holly? Frida gazes into Charlotte's narrow yellow eyes, steps back and asks, Who are you? I lust for blood. I couldn't care less about the making friends crap. I make enemies. Whether it be with me or with others, I don't care. She tells Chow and Molly. Get ready. They position themselves across from each other. Dante slowly motions to Frida and says trembling. I hope they don't destroy the palace. That's what you're worried about? Frida said. Chow's gonna kill Liam. Molly has to have something going for himself. I mean, he's fast, but that won't do. We should stop them. It's too late for that. Huh? What do you mean? Once Charlotte starts something, she'll do anything to ascertain the result. If you want to stop this, you have to take care of her first. Frida stares at Charlotte, who is gazing at Chow and Molly with a grim smile. Don't worry too much, Frida. She turns to him. Believe in Molly. He would do the same for you. Believe? Molly? Memories flood into her head. She shivers at remembering this cool incident. Okay, Molly, she thought. Don't disappoint me, please. Charlotte says Ready. Set. Go Immediately, Molly appears at Chow's left side in midair, with his right fist ready to attack. Molly extends his arm, and Chow catches his fist with his left hand. Chow pushes his fist down, motioning Molly's face to his right knee. Chow extends his leg, pushing Molly away from him. Molly tumbles across the floor and stands against Chow, who walks closer to him. Chow stops, extends his arm, and says, You're supposed to be a savior. You're a disappointment. Immediately, darkness forms into a sphere at the palm of his right hand. Frida and Dante stare in awe. Frida and Dante stare in awe as Chow shouts Die Chow throws at the attack at Molly, who braces for impact. However, the attack went past Molly and through the broken front doors. He gazes back at the attack, which explodes and vaporizes in the air. Chow cringes and falls to his knees. He holds his right fist as he clenches his face. I used too much of my gun, he thought. That was close, Molly thought. He stares at Chow's hand, which was dark and withered. His hand slowly rejuvenates as he wiggles his fingers. That must be balance. I have to end this quickly, or something bad is gonna happen. Molly dashes to Chow. He's not the fast type I see. I wonder how he's gonna counter this attack. He has to turn around, so he's already at a disadvantage. Frida shouts Take him down! Molly attacks with his right fist, but Chow dodges, so Molly goes past him. He glances into Chow's left eye. Chow says, Why are you trying so hard in a losing battle? Molly cringes. The stakes are high, Charlotte thinks. It's not hard to reason that Molly can win. Chow is a big deal after all. But if Liam really has been improving their relationship, then Molly's got this. Immediately, Chow grabs Molly's head and slams him to the ground as hard as he can. Chow smirks and lifts his hand to reveal a log. No way. Where'd he go? Molly appears to the right of Chao, who catches sight of him. Chow's eyes contract as Molly shouts I win! Molly strikes Chow in the face with his right fist. The impact booms as the wind from the attack expands into the room. Chow chuckles and whispers with Molly's fist still in his cheek. Is that all you got? Molly cringes as Chao counters with an uppercut to Molly's chin. He soars in the air and bounces across the floor. He lies in defeat before Chow, who returns to his passive stance. Molly! Frida screamed, writing to him. Chow states Ha is this the begging for my life that you are talking about? Molly enters the Wonderland as he takes his leave. What a shame, Charlotte thought. Even with his new ability of substitution, he's still lost. He's too confident. Didn't he know that his new powers will have a cooldown before he could use them again? Ugh Molly kicks the grass. What the heck? That cheap head? What a coward. He can't hit me head on Molly Liam tries to gain his attention. He's so arrogant. Molly continues his rant. Molly Who does he think he is? Molly Molly turns to Liam and screams What? He shivers at the sight of Liam's calm appearance. It's over. Molly looks away and replies. We have to get up. I can still win. We should have never challenged him in the first place. No, no, no! We've been bullied enough. I'm not gonna sit back and let this happen. Not again! Are you afraid? Molly hesitates to answer. Y Yes. What are you afraid of? I was afraid of losing you. Chow is a famous killer. He could have killed me. I'm don't apologize. Liam pauses. Now we know that if we challenge someone, we must be confident in our ability to win. You're right. Liam jumps awake. Dante, standing next to the bed, gazes at him and says, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. He heads for the door, but stops when Liam says, Wait. Liam gazes down to see a new pair of shoes. Did you get those for me? I did. Dante replied without turning around. I didn't want you to know. I'm sorry. Liam picks the shoes up and examines them. They were pink high tops with white laces. I like them. Thanks. You don't have to thank me. Of course I do. Liam smiles. You did me a favor, I never asked for. Dante turns to Liam and plainly says Cha left. What? Ali was pretty angry when she heard the terms Charlotte put on you guys. She dismissed the terms, but he still left. Was he upset? Dante thinks for about a minute and replies. He didn't seem upset. He said he was disappointed. Disappointed? He said he was disappointed that he had to share the same title as you. Liam sighs. I don't understand. What does that mean? I don't have an answer for that. But you have my trust. I trust you'll make the right decision. Dante quickly leaves. I don't, Liam says coldly as he stares at the door. Welcome to the author's room. So we had a a little fight scene between Chow and Liam. Uh not too much happened in this chapter now that I'm like rereading it. Like not much information other than like Frida knows about Dark Oblivion because her mother used to do business with them. That was it. Yeah, so that's pretty much it. Uh when I first when I first wrote this book, I had this fight in there where they got into a fight, Chow and Liam. But I didn't have like a concrete reason why they got into a fight. And this reason was kind of a stretch too. Uh Chow just, yeah. Like I said in the previous chapter, Chow also has mixed hair. So that's why also I reference it a lot in this chapter too, because he also has mixed hair. And so it's like, okay, you have this prophecy about the mixed hair, but who is it talking about? Now you have Liam and Chow who have both have mixed hair, but neither one of them are willing to do what's good for the world. Not even Chow. Chow is not even uh really a good person. He's like he like you can see, he's a bully. Because somebody knows too much about him, uh, he gets upset and he wants to basically kill you. But yeah, Chow said he was disappointed in the fact that he has to s share the same title as uh Liam. And that's what I had in the original story, too. Like Chow never liked Liam. I had yeah, I didn't I didn't have them as rivals per se, but their personalities clashed a lot. And you'll see more in the third book about Chow, why he doesn't like Liam. Uh Molly's new power, substitution. He can basically substitute now. That's it. Uh there is a cooldown, that's why uh Charlotte said that. Like, didn't he know that there was gonna be a cooldown for it again? So there's a cooldown for his powers, of course. You can see a little bit of Molly where he said, uh, I was afraid of losing you. And Liam was like, uh it's okay. Now we know that if we challenge someone, we have to we have to win. Molly agreed. Uh Chow did leave finally. He finally leaves the palace because he's not supposed to be there in the first place. He was never supposed to be there. Liam doesn't really trust himself to make the right decision. That's the thing at the end. Uh we've seen that before. Like Liam says that he does not want to save the world. That's not his purpose. His purpose is to go see his girlfriend.
