Welcome to Two Hypnotherapists Talking with me, Denise Billen-Mejia, in Delaware, USA. (0:06) And me, Les Roberts, in St Helens, United Kingdom. (0:10) This weekly podcast is for anyone and everyone who'd like to know more about the fascinating (0:14) world of hypnosis and the benefits that it offers.I'm a clinical hypnotherapist and (0:22) specialist in working with children. And I'm a retired medical doctor (0:26) and consultant hypnotist. (0:29) We are Two Hypnotherapists Talking.(0:33) So let's get on with the episode. (0:36) So hi, how are you? (0:39) I'm good and the weather has cooled off. It's only in the 80s now, so people can barely go out.(0:45) It was so bad. 95 is not comfortable. I don't care where you are.(0:49) No, I can imagine. It's just so nice here. It's just so nice.(0:56) And I know it's going to break eventually because we live northwest of England. (1:02) It's bound to be, you know, rainy, but it's just so nice at the moment. (1:07) Sitting out in the morning.(1:09) Plus the fact that now the smoke from the fires in Canada were across half of America. (1:17) Yeah. (1:18) So you couldn't even go, let's drive to the next town.Same problem. (1:21) And driving was going to make it worse. (1:22) Yeah.A couple of days ago I said to my husband, I said, I can smell smoke, you know, like wood (1:28) smoke, like smoke, smoke. And we thought, well, there's nothing around here. (1:33) And it wasn't until we looked at the maps where the fires are and you've got like the moors and (1:41) you've also got Conway, you know, around Conway and Snowdonia. So we were obviously getting it (1:47) from both ends, depending on, you know, which way the wind was blowing. (1:51) Yeah. (1:51) Yeah. But nothing for the last few days. (1:54) So what I thought of talking about today, if that's OK with you, is the myths and misconceptions (2:02) surrounding hypnosis or hypnotherapy, whatever you want to call it. (2:07) Can you, yes, I do think it's an interesting topic.(2:11) Can you remember the things you thought about hypnosis before you became a hypnotist? (2:16) Yeah. Yeah. Oh, definitely. To be perfectly honest, my husband, when I was training to be (2:24) a hypnotherapist, my husband used to say to me, is it this weekend that you're going away doing (2:30) your Voodoo Jedi stuff again? Oh, yeah. (2:33) So and he just said it as a joke. But when you when you think about what people, their perception on (2:41) hypnosis, it's all mind bending, mind control stuff, isn't it? (2:45) And it's based on movies and TV, actually.(2:49) Yeah. And we've said it quite a few times, haven't we, that, you know, the movie industry (2:54) has sort of taken the mick about what over what we do. You know, it's not.(3:00) I mean, honestly, they do that with every single profession. (3:03) Yeah. There's a lot of that.I don't watch anything medical because it drives me nuts. (3:08) Well, I can imagine. Yeah. You being a retired doctor, then you see (3:12) a medical program, you think, yeah, but I'm finally watching cop shows because (3:17) nobody is a cop in my house. So I don't care. (3:20) But it is so we've had this discussion that I know we've had this discussion privately.(3:26) And I know I've mentioned it a few times on our podcast that I've had to change my business name (3:35) to my masters because the schools would not recognize hypnosis. They don't like hypnosis. (3:43) They don't like the word hypnosis. We have a similar problem in this country. (3:47) There are certain states that don't allow you to use the term hypnotherapist. (3:51) I believe so.It doesn't appear on any of my written stuff. It's silly. I mean, (3:55) respiratory techs don't get flack from them. They're allowed to call themselves therapists. (4:00) You know, we're not competing for your business. It can get people in some serious problems.(4:07) And fortunately, it's also a reason for people to sort of rebrand. (4:12) So all these looks like hypnosis to me kind of things getting labeled. (4:17) So if I was to work over in the US, I mean, literally physically work over there, (4:24) I couldn't call myself a hypnotherapist, could I? (4:26) Depends.Do you have a psychology doctorate by any chance? (4:31) No. (4:33) Surprising. Very few people do.In the greatest scheme of things. But you would have to have a (4:40) license as a psychotherapist, not a hypnotherapist. (4:44) So what could I call myself? (4:46) If I were using my medical degree, if I was licensed still as a doctor, which I gave up (4:53) because it was an expensive thing to do and not be a doctor, I could probably use it because (4:58) they're not going to come after me.(5:01) So is that why you call yourself a hypnotist and not a hypnotherapist? (5:07) I don't have to worry about which state I'm talking to. There's two states I can't work in. (5:12) The state of Washington, which requires you to be licensed in Washington, and the state of (5:18) Connecticut, which requires you to be licensed in Connecticut.(5:22) Right. (5:23) And you don't need a licensure anywhere else. So I just pass them on.I know people in both (5:28) the states, and I pass people on. But I did consider it for a while. If I had somebody (5:35) contacted me who had a really interesting problem, I might go and see.(5:40) Yeah, yeah. (5:41) And what's so silly about it is it's just pay your money and get the stamp. They don't (5:46) check your credentials. They do make you take, and this is truly bizarre to me, (5:51) they make you take a test on HIV transmission, which if you consider that you and I both (5:57) work a lot on a Zoom link, remarkably little risk of AIDS. I suppose it was, it's probably (6:05) a lot of other, that's probably a requirement for a lot of other licenses to get general (6:10) information to make sure they're covered. (6:12) It just nuts. It's that, pay us $175 and you'll be licensed too. (6:17) I've just been updating. The reason why I ask you is I've just been updating all my (6:21) insurances from moving premises and my indemnity and all of that malarkey. And I've just found (6:31) out that I have to take out extra on my insurance because I work with people in Canada and America. (6:41) Because they like to have bigger lawsuits. (6:43) That's all I can guess why.I haven't the foggiest idea, but everywhere else, (6:49) everywhere else is fine, but the USA and Canada. (6:53) How much does it cost you for your insurance? You can take this out if you wish. (6:57) To be perfectly honest, I don't know because I'm just waiting for it to come back now because (7:02) it's all changed because I work- (7:05) I had to have a $3 million policy, but it doesn't cost me very much.(7:09) I think I've- (7:10) But they cost more. If I did anaesthetic level, I would require a higher degree, but I don't do that. (7:21) Yeah.Well, my indemnity is 10 million. That's because I was advised to take that out when I was (7:27) doing all of the classes when we had 20, 30 children. Whereas now I'm just waiting for it (7:33) to come down because I don't need hardly any contents insurance now.I've gone from (7:41) 20, 30,000 contents to less than five, which is great. It's great for me because (7:48) all the expensive things like the laptop and my phones and things like that, (7:55) they all stay with me in the house. Of course, the house is alarmed and everything.(8:01) And insured. (8:01) And insured, yeah. But the only thing that's got to change now is I have to contact my (8:10) contents and building insurance for home because people will be walking through the garden and- (8:17) Snuggling board.(8:18) Or something. Yeah, exactly. So all of these things I've been doing today and it just made (8:23) me realize about all the misconceptions and the myths behind hypnosis because I had to change (8:30) my name.I had to explain to my insurance why I've changed my name as well. And it just made (8:38) me think, you know, there is still that stigma, isn't there, about hypnosis or hypnotherapy? (8:45) And you just- (8:45) Definitely got that voodoo- (8:47) Voodoo Jedi stuff, yeah. (8:49) Yeah.I don't know about Jedi, but certainly. And yeah, I guess they could make the whole rise up. (8:54) It's- I think we do- we're always complaining about movies and TV, but I think that is a lot (9:01) of the reason that that idea has gone on.And the stage shows. I've only been to one stage show in (9:08) my life for that. It was a local guy who works reasonably locally and he was doing a show for (9:16) some organization that was charitable, like the Knights of somebody or other.(9:20) And he was quite good. Everything he was doing, you feel like there was no point to it. That's (9:27) my issue with the stage shows. It's just really, why would you want to cluck like a chicken? If (9:31) you want to cluck like a chicken, go ahead. I just don't see the value to that other than (9:38) giggling at people and that's not my kind of humor. So, it is interesting to me.I've only- (9:46) other than my own physician that I've spoken to a lot of these 70 clients, there's only about (9:51) three or four other doctors around here who've ever asked anything about it. I think that is (9:56) really the sticking point. We need to get more professionals. We do. To realize that it's not (10:02) something to do at a party because it's fun. We do, yeah.Which of course is how- you know, (10:08) what we think of as anesthesia, chloroform and ether, those were done at parties. People took (10:14) tanks and they just- everybody giggled. Oh my goodness, really? And
Welcome to Two Hypnotherapist Talking with me, Denise Bill and Mahia in Delaware, USA.
SPEAKER_01I'm me, Let Robert in St. Helens, United Kingdom.
SPEAKER_00This weekly podcast is for anyone and everyone who would like to know more about the fascinating world of hypnosis and the benefits that it offers.
SPEAKER_01I'm a clinical hypnotherapist and specialist in working with children.
SPEAKER_00And I'm a retired medical doctor and consultant.
SPEAKER_01We are two hypnotherapists talking. So let's get on with the episode.
SPEAKER_00So hi, how are you? I'm good, and the weather has cooled off. It's only in the 80s now, so people can barely go out. It was so bad. 95 is not comfortable. I don't care where you are.
SPEAKER_01No, I can yeah, I can I can imagine it's it's just just so nice here. It's just so nice, and and I know it's gonna break eventually, and we're because we live northwest of England, it's bound to be you know rainy, but uh it's just so nice at the moment. Sitting out in the morning.
SPEAKER_00Plus the fact that that now the the the fire the smoke from the fires in Canada were across half of America. Yeah, you couldn't even let's drive to the next tent, so probably and dry now is gonna make it worse.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a couple of days ago I said to my husband, I said, I can smell smoke, you know, like wood smoke, like smoke smoke. And and we thought, well, there's nothing around here, and it wasn't until we looked at the maps where the the fires are, and you've you've got like um the moors, and you've also got Conway, you know, around uh Conway and Snowdonia. So we were obviously getting it from both ends, depending on you know which way the wind was. Yeah, but nothing for the last few days. So what I thought of talking about today, if that's okay with you, is the myths and misconceptions surrounding hypnosis or hypnotherapy, whatever you want to call it.
SPEAKER_00Can you, yes, I do think it that's it's an interesting topic. Can you remember the things you thought about hypnosis before you became a hypnotist?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, oh definitely. To be perfectly honest, my husband, when I was training to be a hypnotherapist, my husband used to say to me, Is it this weekend that you're going away doing your voodoo Jedi stuff again? Oh yeah. So, and he he just said it as a joke. But when you when you think about what people, their perception on hypnosis, it's all mind-bending, mind control stuff, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00And it's based on movies and TV, perhaps.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we've we've said it quite a few times, haven't we, that you know, the movie industry has sort of taking a mic about what over what we do, you know, it's not I mean, honestly, they do that with every single profession.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't watch anything medical because it drives me nuts.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, I I can imagine, yeah, you being a retired doctor, then you see uh a medical program and you think, yeah, but I'm finally watching cop shows because nobody is a cop in my house.
SPEAKER_00So I don't care.
SPEAKER_01But it is though. We we've had this discussion now, I know we've had this discussion privately, and I know I've mentioned it a few times on our podcast that I've had to change my business name to my masters because the schools would not recognize hypnosis, they don't like hypnosis, they don't like the word hypnosis.
SPEAKER_00We have a similar problem in this country. There are certain states that don't allow you to use the term hypnotherapist. I believe so it doesn't appear on any of my written stuff. It's it's silly. I mean, respiratory texts don't get flanked from them, they're allowed to call a social therapist. You know, we're not competing for your business. It's it can get people in some serious problems. So if I would fortunate it's also a reason for people to sort of rebrand all these looks like hypnosis to me kind of things getting labeled or something.
SPEAKER_01So if I was to work over in the US, I mean literally physically work over there, I couldn't call myself a hypnotherapist, could I?
SPEAKER_00Depends, do you have a psychology doctorate by any chance? No. In the great greatest human thing. But you would have you you'd have to have a license as a psycho as a psychotherapist, always love a hypnotherapist.
SPEAKER_01So what could I call myself?
SPEAKER_00If I were using my medical degree, uh if I was licensed still as a doctor, which I gave up because it was an expensive thing to do and not be a doctor, yeah, I could probably use it because they're not going to come after me.
SPEAKER_01So is that why you call is that why you call yourself a hypnotist and not a hypnotherapist? Right.
SPEAKER_00Which state I'm talking to. There's two states I can't work in. The state of Washington, which requires me to be licensed in Washington, and the state of Connecticut, which requires me to be licensed in Connecticut Ram. So I I just passed on I know people in both of the states and I passed people on. But I did consider it for a while. If I had somebody contacted me who had a really interesting problem, I might and what's so silly about it is it's it's just pay your money and get the stuff you don't need to do check your credentials. They do make you take a this is true. They make you take a test on HIV transcription. Which if you consider that you and I both work a lot on a Zoom link, remarkably little risk of of a I suppose it was. It's probably a lot of yeah, that's probably a requirement for a lot of other licenses to get more information. Yeah, yeah, but it's just it's just nuts. Then you give it.
SPEAKER_01I've just been updating the reason why I asked you is I've just been updating all my insurances, you know, from moving premises and my indemnity and and all of that, Malaraki. And I've just found out that I have to take out extra on my insurance because I work with people in Canada and America.
SPEAKER_00Because they like to have bigger lawsuits, you mean?
SPEAKER_01That's all I can guess why. I haven't the foggiest idea, but everywhere else, everywhere else is fine, but the USA and Canada.
SPEAKER_00How much does it cost you for your insurance? You can take this out if you wish.
SPEAKER_01To be perfectly honest, I don't I don't know because I'm just waiting for it to come back now because it's it's all changed.
SPEAKER_00Because uh I would have a three million dollar problem, it doesn't cost me very much. I think having but they require they cost more if if I did an aesthetic level. Yeah, I would require a a higher degree, but I don't do that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, my indemnity is 10 million. That's because I was advised to take that out when I was doing all of the classes when we had 20, 30 children, whereas now I'm just waiting for it all to come down because I don't need hardly any contents insurance now. So I've gone from 20,000, 30,000 contents to less than less than five, which is great, it's great for me because all the expensive things like the the laptop and my phones and things like that, they all stay with me in the house. And of course, like the house is alarmed and everything, so and insured, and insured, yeah. So so all of these things I've been doing today, and it just made me realize about all this this the misconceptions and and the myths behind hypnosis because I had to change my name. I had to explain to my insurance why I've changed my name as well. And it just made me think, you know, there is still that stigma, isn't there, about hypnosis or hypnotherapy.
SPEAKER_00And you just definitely got that voodoo voodoo voodoo dead eye. Yeah, yeah. And about Jedi, but certainly I yeah, I guess they could make people rise up. It's um I think we do, we're always complaining about the movies and TV. But I think that is a lot of the reason that that idea has gone on. And the stage shows. I've only been to one stage show in my life for that. And there was a local guy who works reasonably locally, and he was doing a show for some organization that was like charitable, like nights of someone. I think it's quite good. Everything he was doing for like there was no point to it. That that's my issue with the stage shows. There's really why would you want to cut like a chicken? If you want to cut like a chicken, go ahead. I you know, I just don't see the value to that. I mean healing people, and yeah, that's not my kind of humor. So it is interesting, it's interesting to remember other my own physician. A lot of these three clients, but there's only about three or four other doctors around here have ever asked anything about it. I think that is really the sticking point that we need to get more professionals. We do to realize that it's not something to do at a party because it's fun. Which of course is how you know what we think of is anesthesia, chloroform and ether, those were done at parties. People took tanks and they just ever giggled. Oh my goodness, really. And people lost sheets of skin because they went and sat on things like radiators, couldn't feel them as they burned their skin out.
SPEAKER_01Really? Oh my goodness, yeah. It's I suppose really, in a way, it's it's it's a talking point, isn't it? So when you when you go, when you do go to go to parties or you go to a social event and somebody says, Oh, what you do for a living? You say, Well, you know, I'm a hypnotherapist, and they go, Oh, don't look into my eyes, don't look into my and and at first it you just laugh, and then they start saying to you, I bet you can't hypnotize me. And I just turn around and say, Well, yeah, I bet I can't because you don't want to.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And I have one person who who I'm pretty sure she did go under actually, but I wasn't gonna break a bubble for it because she was so invested in not being hypnotizable. You want to come and spend an hour hanging out with me and go nowhere? Sure, do that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Do you do you think that it stops people from contacting you because they're a bit frightened or a bit skeptical of um probably hypnosis? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is why I I think that uh advertising, getting the profession known through other therapists.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Accepted levels being psychotherapists, doctors. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've only I've only ever had one person, one doctor to say to one of my clients, you need hypnotherapy. They've they never recommended me, they just said, you know, Google it. Luckily, I was never on Google. But I did have, I had a nurse come to see me last week. She's coming back this week for she's gonna give up smoking. And she said she did a comparison to me and another four that spread out over a radius of 20 miles. She said, and you she said you just kept popping up all the time. She said, you know.
SPEAKER_00You think you've been in business longer than the other people? I don't know. It's yeah, you've been over 10 years now, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, over 10 years now, yeah. So yeah. I don't I don't know because I have I don't I don't like asking people for reviews. So I haven't got many reviews. So I think I've only got about 29, 30 reviews on Google. I just don't I just don't like asking for them at all. I don't like how I need them.
SPEAKER_00The ones that are on my website are other professions and the ones from my training. I've I've had people state, you know, have written things to me. Yeah, I do, yeah. But it always feels a bit used for salesmany.
SPEAKER_01It does. It does. I mean, I was I was on I was on to I was on to actually my insurance the other the other day. This is how it's come about that I need to look at something else. And it was my contents and building for the for the house. And as soon as I finished, up popped up a little survey, and I thought, I've got time to do this, but maybe I need to because maybe I need to think, well, if the shoe was on the other foot, would I want those reviews as well? That feedback. I do ask for feedback, but I don't ask for it. No, not for it. Yeah, because especially if you've got people coming for say depression, the last thing they said they don't talk to other people about it.
SPEAKER_00They'll talk to the doctor because sure they talk about it. Exactly. Exactly. They don't, they don't. But and and also with killing. I left my card around. They don't got anybody from that area.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01But also, parents don't always want to leave a review. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_00If they've been seeking care for their child, exactly.
SPEAKER_01And I do know word of mouth is massive, isn't it? I mean, I've got a lot of referrals from word of mouth from people talking in the playground.
SPEAKER_00But you can't assume that they will talk because most people want it, it's private.
SPEAKER_01No, but I have decided, I will tell you, Denise, I have decided that I'm going to start to email the parents or the adult who comes to see me and just ask them for feedback and actually give them my Google link and then just sit back and just go like that and just hope that somebody will do it. Because it is good, it's good for people to see. Because in comparison to quite a few people locally, I've got probably got less reviews than others, but it's because I I don't really like acting for them. But going back to the myths and misconceptions, I have been offered to do some work for social services for a family, you know, quite a few weeks' work, and it's really good. I put my proposal in for the pathway or program for to explain what I'd be doing. And within 10 minutes, the social worker emailed me back and said, Can you take hypnosis out of or hypnotherapy out of it? How else would you describe it? Because my managers will not accept. So they're not saying you can't be a litmus for them that I can say NLP, neurolinguistic programming, but I can't mention hypnosis. Yeah, which I can't mention hypnosis or hypnotherapy. And you just think, well, maybe now things need to change, maybe now that's where the irritation at the stage changes up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's what's frightening.
SPEAKER_01Even in schools, you mention hypnosis, and it's like, oh, please don't say, you know, don't mention that awful, awful word. And you just think, well, hang on a minute, you know, you're reading stories to children, stories. Children are falling into hypno self-hypnosis while they're listening to the stories. You're teaching them things, and they will use their imagination and their subconscious mind to retain that information. So why? Yeah, why are we not allowed to mention the H word? You know, why? But it it's got to change, hasn't it? It's got to change.
SPEAKER_00Yes, but gosh, it's taking a long time. It's been around for 5,000 years. We know archaeologists have told us that in the last hundred and some years, we've had huge numbers of people. When was when was he was a Scotsman at the time of beers and but he he would hypnotize people. It would take him three days to get them into sufficiently depth that he could do surgery. Which I mean, we've got so many faster. Thank you, thank you, Dave Elman, for giving us that. There's so many ways we can get people under mush faster. But it if you're just so frustrating then it's thought of Zulu.
SPEAKER_01It is, it is, and even though my husband said it in jest, you know, it was still in his mind for him to say it anyway, because I questioned him afterwards and he said, No, no, he said, I'm only joking about it. But if you look at the likes of the Swiss Hypnosis Institute, Nicole Wackenegel, Nicole's what Nicole's doing now, and she's working in in hospitals and helping patients to be hypnotized so that they can perform surgeries on them. Yeah. So it's quite big in Belgium, is soft. So some countries, some countries are moving along, aren't they? And some countries aren't. So I'll get there. I'll get there eventually. It's just it's keeping my.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And who's the who's the dentist in in this in transcription? This dentist. He's an official person that's really annoying some of my friends. He he officially says uh you m you must be a medical professional to use hypnotists. And typically just at least brings it into that it's a real thing. Yeah, yeah. You don't need to go through six years of medical school to be able to be a hypnotist, just about a year to get enough practice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But it is important you get enough practice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, Mark Wilson, who's our final guest on this season, he'll be episode 12. Mark doesn't like the dentist, he doesn't like needles. And Mark actually uses self-hypnosis to go to the dentist.
SPEAKER_00This, the guy I was mentioning in Scotland, is a dentist. Right. And he's in a two-person practice, and he will do the hypnosis while somebody else is doing surgery. Yeah, yeah. Because that's the other thing, it's fairly good. You a lot of people are taught hypnobirthing or some lookalike. Hypno birthing is a registered child. It is, yeah, yeah. Hypnosis for birth is a very good idea. Even if it just takes an you know, half of it away, it allows you a breather. Yeah. And and most people accept that it's become so common in our society that most people accept it, but they don't seem to see to be you might want it for other uncomfortable positions.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the NHS, our NHS seems to be a bit not taking up hypnosis where they use it for IBS, as you know, when all other avenues have been exhausted, and they will also train midwives to use it for birthing and labour, because evidence shows that the less sorry, that the more calm the mummy less blood, less blood loss and sorts of things. The baby doesn't get affected because the baby will feed off her chemicals that she's giving out and everything, she's anxious. And also, if you think about the breathing that we we do when we're under hypnosis, it's very calm, it's very relaxing. So they use it then, but they don't use it for anything else, really, at this moment in time. But they'll use they'll use NLP, which it's just hypnosis, but a different word, really, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I'm telling people that did uh NLP they get very angry. They're convinced it's completely different.
SPEAKER_01Um I've done NLP and hypnosis, it's uh did you find it easier to train?
SPEAKER_00I mean that's unfair because you didn't train without it, but did did you think that it was easier for you to learn hypnosis having had the NLP training?
SPEAKER_01I I think it was easier for me to to sort of talk to people because NLP with NLP you you change the way that you deliver things, that you change the way that you talk to people, because it's all about changing those linguistics, changing the way you think, feel, uh, because that will help you to change your actions and your behavior. So I think it was possibly a bit easier, but I wouldn't I I wouldn't say that you need to take NLP before you do hypnotify. Is all you need to do about that after one of the modules in my training.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And what else? Is there something else going forward? Aromatherapy. Not aromatherapy, but something like somewhat similar. Not strange as in a strange thing to do. Just it seems a funny thing put into a hypnosis class. Oh, if you're having trouble doing that, do this instead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's and I think overall it's it's a fantastic thing to do. It's it's changed, it's changed my life completely. But person on a personal level, it's changed me as well. But on a professional level, it's just helped me to find, you know, my niche and and what I really, really enjoy doing. I like getting up in the morning and going to work. I don't think I've ever had a day where I've I've thought, oh, we have to go into work. I've really enjoyed it and I'm hoping to enjoy it even more. And the good thing about it it's such a short trip to your office now. It's that commute. Yeah, I'm gonna video my commuter with my cup of coffee and um yeah. The only thing is though, sometimes I have to forget I've got my slippers on, so I have to come back and change in into my sandals or something. The good thing that I like about the hypnosis or NLP or hypnotherapy, whatever you want to call it, is I like the fact that the tools that we teach our clients, they can use them across the board.
SPEAKER_00We've said this, we'd said this before that that we actually are teaching them what they need to do in order to do this for themselves. And tools for life as well. Doesn't mean that that of course they wouldn't come back and see us or anybody else. Yeah, but they're gonna have a lot of skills.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So on Thursday evening, this Thursday evening, I'm travelling over to Hull to see Sheila Granger. I'm going to see Sheila. And I will. And it's about two and a half hours journey. And I've been driving since I was 17. So I'm if if I don't know it now, then I'll I'll never know it. Yeah, never mind. But I but I still get a little bit, just a little bit worried about travelling on motorways, especially busy motorways. I'm okay with our local motorway because I've done it that often. But when I step onto the one to towards Leeds, then I I will start.
SPEAKER_00Do you get a lot of juggernauts? You get a lot of juggernauts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, really, but it's not them, it's it's the cars that weave in and out, you see. So I do get a little bit anxious, but I remember just before I did my hypnosis course that I developed a fear for driving on motorways, and it was because I'd seen an accident where it the coming to the down the slip road where two motorways merged, and it it manifested that fast that I stopped driving for about six months. So I've got an anchor where I flick my thumb and finger together, and that anchor is possibly 13, 14 years old, and I still know it's there. Yeah, still so yeah. So on Thursday, I will use that to help me just to feel not to feel totally, you know, relaxed because you you you need your wits about driving. You do have to pay attention. Exactly. But it will help me to feel a little bit more in control and also to keep telling myself, you've done this before, you can do it again. Yeah, you know, so I will still be using it, and that's why I like the the fact that I had that 13, 14 years ago, and I've still got it, and I it I can still use it, and it is even more effective now because I know a lot more if you get me. I like that, and I like that's what we give our clients. We give them tools that they can use for life, don't we?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it gives people a lot of confidence, and yeah, things will be better.
SPEAKER_01It's it's a it's a lovely profession to be in, and it's it's I feel satisfied at the end, you know, of my day and everything. I've just seen a young girl online down south who had a few issues with eating, and I've seen her for four sessions, and her eating is completely changing. It's still baby steps all the way, but she's trying some uh things that she would never try before, and she's actually enjoying them. So we've set we've set the bar a little bit higher, and she's actually going to try and eat some fish. She needs to get some protein into her, so she's she's actually gonna try fish this this week in whatever form she wants, so it can be a fish finger, but it can be yeah, she can have it in any form whatsoever. And mum said to me about what do I need to do? So I said, You don't need to do anything now, all you need to do is to just let her make these choices because she won't like everything.
SPEAKER_00She won't. I mean, I don't like everything, especially anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this so I'm gonna check in on her when she's been back at school for a week, see how she gets on.
SPEAKER_00Is she and does she do school dinners?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she doesn't like school dinners. She said, but and she actually said to me tonight, but Les, nobody likes school dinners. They're awful. I don't know. Probably still serving the same things as soon as yeah, they probably are, they probably are. I'm rolly poly. Yeah, so I've got this little pig here. Yeah, she's gorgeous, isn't she? So this has been sat with me, it's actually moved into you know these these new premises, and this is going to the little girl, and she's called her Darcy. So when I saw her tonight, and I and I brought Darcy in onto the screen, she went, Have you still got her? So I said, Yeah, I said she needs a new home now. Can she come and live with you? So she's going to this young girl tomorrow. And it's just it's just a little, just a little incentive because every time she sees Darcy, she'll know that you know it reminds her of me and she'll she'll know what it's for. So if it works, it works. And that is in a way, that is a form of hypnosis, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. One of the others, just thinking of another television thing, it is not allowed these days. For a while, there were police departments that would use hypnotists to find bodies and something like that. And that became very known you cannot hypnotize somebody who may have to go to court and testify. You can't recover memory because of the problem. So that is that is some of it is unfair in that it would probably be very helpful. But it is it's very difficult to explain to people how you can.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did actually see someone quite a few years ago, actually. Um and it was over, I think it was over stress or sleep or something, and then I found out that the reason why they were so stressed and they did they couldn't sleep is because they were due to go into court. So I asked why, why they were going into court, and I asked what it was about, and then I I said, I'm gonna have to hold back until yeah. So she said why? She said, Because you're helping me sleep, and I said, But if you if the court finds out that you've been having hypnosis, then you know everything you say out the window, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But on TV at least, they and I just maybe try and running cops like an house, but on television they'll have people doing something that's clearly hypnosis to get information from people. So they're not calling it hypnosis. Just lie here and relax. So when you're really, really relaxed, just reminds go back to yeah. Yeah, yeah. But it's you don't yeah.
SPEAKER_01I watched, I watch a lot of dev dev series, we binge watch series on television, and I get so angry at them sometimes because I just think that wouldn't happen in real life, you can't do that. And then, but my husband has to remind me it's not real, Les, it's not real. But yeah, I just think it's it's a fantastic thing to do, and it it just helps. But we're almost out of time. Yes, that's right. Gracious. We are, aren't we?
SPEAKER_00So we actually talk about you said no, we don't mind. And Rim, do you think we do have people who listen to us? But please send us things you want to hear about. We would be happy to talk about it. Oh, definitely, yeah, definitely. And if you've had if you if you yourself have had reservations about hypnosis, we would certainly like to hear about those.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, or or even if you have had hypnosis, let us know how it went as well. Because that would be that would be a talking point, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_00I would indeed. Come on the show.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you're very, very welcome to come on the show. So I shall say goodbye and I shall see you next time. I'll see you for any.
