(0:00) Welcome to Two Hypnotherapists Talking with me, Denise Villamih here in Delaware, USA. (0:06) And me, Les Roberts in St Helens, United Kingdom. (0:10) This weekly podcast is for anyone and everyone who would like to know more about the fascinating (0:14) world of hypnosis and the benefits that it offers.I'm a clinical hypnotherapist (0:21) and specialist in working with children. And I'm a retired medical doctor and consultant (0:28) hypnotist. We are Two Hypnotherapists Talking. So let's get on with the episode. (0:36) I'm fine. I'm fine. Are you? (0:38) Get rid of that little we're recording button. It always drives me bonkers watching that. (0:45) All nice and refreshed after a weekend.(0:49) Yes. I didn't do anything work related except upload yesterday's podcast. (0:57) But we've had wonderful. The weather is now, I would say, broken. We had high 90s for a long time (1:05) and it was very exhausting and some major thunderstorms. But now it's mid 80s, if we're (1:12) lucky. And that's great. We went for a lovely long walk by the river. It's very nice. And it's (1:20) whether you can bear to go out and do some gardening in the 90s. No, nothing's happening. (1:24) No, it's actually my tomatoes are coming in.Yeah, we're going out there now. (1:29) Oh, oh, definitely. We've grown tomatoes out there, but we're a little bit late planting them.(1:35) They're not quite flowered yet. So we're just hoping fingers crossed that we're not too late. (1:40) It actually rained here yesterday for the first time in weeks and weeks. And considering I'm (1:48) north west England, it's always raining. Yeah. Not enough for it to stay wet, but it still (1:56) rained because it was, you know, there was rain on the cars and a few of the windows and everything.(2:01) So that was nice. That cooled it down a little tiny bit. So but it's overcast today, but that's (2:08) OK.It was an admin day for me today. So self-improvement and yeah, self-confidence, (2:15) which is another area where I hope most is going to be very helpful. (2:19) Massively, massively, can't it? Yeah. And it probably is very much in that you work with (2:25) small children or not even small, but, you know, don't forget to be eight or nine. They're very (2:30) self-conscious. Yes.Yeah. I see a lot of children for confidence, self-improvement. (2:39) I wouldn't I don't really use that word self-improvement for the children because (2:43) they wouldn't understand it.But confidence, self-esteem and self-belief, (2:49) I feel that they all fall hand in hand. They don't like self-improvement, (2:53) but they're OK with self-esteem. That's great.Exactly. Yeah. Educated crowd.Yeah. I don't (2:59) think the word self-improvement is used that often for the children. Confidence, definitely.(3:05) Mm hmm. I think children, from my point of view, I think children underestimate how confident they (3:13) actually are because when they come across something that's unfamiliar or something (3:20) they've never done before, something tells them that, you know, they can't do it. (3:26) And which is also self-improvement when thinking of adults.Yeah. It sounds like (3:33) massaging your ego. But for kids, it's self-confidence at school.Yes, I can do that. (3:40) I don't know what all those symbols are in between the numbers, but I know I can figure it out. Yeah.(3:47) Most definitely. Absolutely. And exams. If you don't have some confidence when you walk in the (3:52) exam room, it's awful. I think children, I think children underestimate themselves, how confident (3:59) they actually are. Because I see a lot of children, because we live in a rugby town, (4:05) a rugby league town, and there's a lot of boys and girls who both play rugby league.(4:13) And it is a very, very competitive sport to be in. And it's a very, it's a tough sport. It really is (4:22) a tough sport. But the children that come to see me for sports related issues, they've already (4:30) got that confidence. It's just sometimes it's hidden. So it's up to me to sort of draw it back (4:35) out again. You work with a lot of junior athletes. I wouldn't say a lot, but a fair few. Yeah.Usually (4:45) what happens is when I see somebody from, say, a football team or a rugby team, I usually get a (4:53) trickle of children afterwards because their parents or whoever will say, you know, I've been (5:00) to see theirs, you know, and this is what I can do. You advertise in their little programmes, (5:05) they give out the games. I don't.I don't actually. But maybe you should think about it. (5:10) I know that is something. My grandson plays football and he plays in his league. It's not (5:19) in my town. It's in the next town across and he plays in his league. And I am going to sponsor (5:28) the team. Not this season coming, but the next season I'm going to sponsor them. So (5:34) they'll have my name all over their kit. They have your name on their jerseys. Yes, they will. (5:41) Yes, they will.Including my grandson. So he's quite happy about it. I can't remember my kids (5:47) baseball. That's that's the thing here. My kids are pretty ancient now, but they all had the (5:56) numbers on the front and on the backs was, you know, like a repair shop or something. (6:01) I'm glad you know, I've got to figure out some way of getting my name out a bit more.(6:05) Yeah, I saw a couple of couple of young boys for confidence and self-esteem really issues. (6:15) And I've offered to go and do a talk to the football team. So I'm just waiting for the coach (6:21) to come back and we can arrange some some date dates.Because if I'm right, I think football (6:28) has finished now. I might be wrong. Sorry, I think a football is a cold weather thing.(6:38) Yeah, I think it starts again like September or I don't know. I might be a bit confused. (6:45) Yeah.So I think football is due to start again after the World Cup. See what happens in it. But (6:53) I did.Funnily enough, talking about confidence, self-improvement, a couple of years ago, (7:00) I was on Twitter. It was when Twitter was good and I was on Twitter and there is a business forum (7:07) that you can go on for your area. So it was St. Helens businesses and somebody ran a raffle and it (7:15) was 20 pounds, I think it was, and went into a draw to win a sponsorship for an adult football (7:25) team. And I won it quite a few years ago. It's probably about seven, eight years ago. And I (7:30) won it.So my name was all over their jerseys. I got a free jersey as well. And I also went down (7:38) pre-match and spoke to the team.Excellent. And it was lovely. It was really it was good.(7:45) It was way out of my comfort zone because that's not what I do. But that is a very good thing to (7:53) do for yourself. So often it was, it was good. And funnily enough, I was sorting out my wardrobes (7:58) and I found the they gave me the jersey that they gave me and it brought a smile to my face. (8:04) And I think, do you know what? I'll get that framed one day, you know, and stick it in (8:09) in the cabin. Yeah.Eventually. Yeah. It was it was nice.It was an honour. (8:14) So it cost me £20, had my name all over their jersey. And I went down and did some pre-match (8:22) talks to the players as well.It was good. Yeah. So maybe you're going to have to think about (8:28) where you can go, Denise, so you can spend.Well, yeah, there's quite a few. There's lots (8:32) of little kids sports teams, that's for sure. Self-improvement.It covers, it covers just a (8:40) general sort of, oh, I should start walking again or I should start swimming again. Right. (8:45) Well, all of those things that certainly if people are considering doing those things and (8:51) need encouragement, hypnosis is a very good way.And that's a very good time to listen to (8:56) hypnosis tapes, which sounds like it might be dangerous, but you don't get hypnotised (9:00) by a hypnosis tape, the kind I'm talking about. It talks about it. There's sort of (9:05) there's hypnosis walking, which sounds weird and it isn't nearly as weird as it sounds, (9:11) but it's good. And if you've got a circuit walk that you do, it's excellent, (9:16) because you're zoned out anyway on those things. You're just listening to the right messages. (9:21) It is.And that's what it's about, isn't it? It's about recognising where you need to improve (9:28) without, like you said, without being too down on yourself, too critical, but recognising what (9:33) improvement you need. My improvement at the moment is as far as my business is concerned, (9:40) but it's also about my weight. So I'm on that journey of self-improvement as far as my weight (9:47) and my health is concerned.Has the summer made it difficult for you? No, it's made it easier. (9:54) For me, it's not great because we've got two really fantastic ice cream places near us. (10:02) But you have to travel to get to them, so it's not like I walk past them everywhere.(10:06) I was just going to say I'm going to put myself on mute. There's a helicopter just gone past, (10:11) but I think it's... I can't hear it. Yeah, it's gone now.It was very loud. Yeah. So yeah, (10:18) self-improvement, you could... hypnosis is a really good thing for us, isn't it? It's a really good (10:23) approach and a methodology to use because you're using your subconscious mind, (10:30) which is where your self-talk comes from. It's all your self-talk is. (10:37) Yeah, exactly. Anyway, I mean, we are all supposed to be improving all the time. That's what we're (10:43) here for. It doesn't have to be, I'm going to be a gold medal winner at the Olympi

SPEAKER_01Educating crap.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't I don't think the word self-improvement is used that that often for the children. Confidence, definitely. I think children, from my point of view, I think children underestimate how confident they actually are. Because when they come across something that's unfamiliar or something they've never done before, something tells them that you know they can't do it.
SPEAKER_01And which is also like you know, you said self-improvement thinking of adults. Yeah. It sounds like as large in your ego. But for for kids, is self-confidence at school. Yes, I can do that. I don't know what all those symbols are in between the numbers, but I know I can figure it out. Yeah, um, most definitely absolutely. If you don't have some confidence when you walk in the exam room, it's awful.

SPEAKER_01I think a football is a cold weather thing. I think probably finish a long again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it starts again like September or I don't I don't know. I might be wrong.
SPEAKER_01It's a bit confusing because the World Cup's having just finished.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I think football's due to start again after the World Cup. See what happens, and but I did, funnily enough, talking about confidence and self-improvement, a couple of years ago I was on Twitter, it was when Twitter was good, and I was on Twitter, and there is a business forum that you can go on for your area, so it was St. Helens Businesses, and somebody ran a raffle, and it was £20, I think it was, and went into a drawer to win a sponsorship for a an adult's football team, and I won it quite a few years ago. Well, all of those things that certainly uh if people are are considering doing those things and need encouragement, hypnosis is a very good way. And that's a very good time to listen to the hypnosis tape, which sounds like it might be dangerous, but you don't get hypnotized by a non-hypnosis tape, the kind I'm talking about. It talks about it in there there's sort of uh there's hypnosis walking, which sounds weird. It isn't nearly as weird as it sounds, but it's good, and if you've got a like a circuit walk that you do, it's excellent. You zoned out anyway on those things.
SPEAKER_00Listening to the right messages, it is real too, and that's what it's about, isn't it? It's about recognizing where you need to improve without, like you said, without being too down on yourself, too critical, but recognizing what improvement you you need. My improvement at the moment is as far as my business is concerned, but it's also about my weight. So I'm on that journey of self-improvement as far as my weight and my health's concerned. Has the summer made it difficult for you? No, it's made it easier.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really? Okay. For me, it's not great because we've got two really fantastic ice cream places near us. I'm gonna put it. But you have to travel to get to them, so it's not like I walk past them every moment.
SPEAKER_00I was I was just gonna say I'm gonna put myself on mute. There's a helicopter just gone past, but I think it's it's I can't hear it. Yeah, it's it's gone now. It was very loud, yeah. So, yeah, it's it's self-impro improvement. You could hypnosis is a really good thing for it, isn't it? It's a really good approach and a methodology to use because you're using your subcons your subconscious mind, which is where your self-talk comes from. So it is all your self-talk is yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, anyway, I mean, we are all supposed to be improving all the time. That's what we're here for. It doesn't have to be I'm going to be a gold medal winner at the Olympics, that kind of confidence. It's it's I can go out and talk to people on the street, I can you know go and visit so and so who I haven't seen in her garden for a month.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but it can be if you want to win a gold medal at the Olympics, it can be that as well, can't it?
SPEAKER_01And there's quite a lot of people who that is their entire thing.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, it is all about having that confidence, isn't it, to achieve what you want to achieve. And if you're lacking confidence, then hypnosis is a really good approach to use because it taps into your subconscious mind, because we're all born with these things, we're all we and I know confidence, we're not born with confidence, but we're all born with those abilities to make those improvements, aren't we?
SPEAKER_01That's how you get from baby to be upright and exactly happy adult.
SPEAKER_00Well, if you think about it, when a baby, when a baby's learning to walk, or a baby's learning to play with something, or a baby's learning just even developmental skills, if they didn't have the confidence to do it to get back up after they've fallen down, then they'd never do it. So it is there. It's just it's motivation, isn't it? Isn't it for babies to continue to keep developing because they want to walk from one side of the room to the other, they want to stand on the feet. It's a new sensation, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Rather than sitting or crawling, and they're walking, they're looking at all these adults from other people doing the same thing.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01I must do this too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but sometimes we all we all need a little bit of help. I've had, as you know, and you're aware, and anybody else who's listened to the podcast uh season and and last season, I've I'm seeking help for weight loss, but using hypnosis, and because I'm happy, I'm a I'm a massive believer in hypnosis and how it can work. So I'm using that and it's working, it is working for me. Slow, but that's what I want. Slow is better, exactly. I don't I would love to wake up tomorrow and be the ideal weight and size that I want to be.
SPEAKER_01Yes, but you've got to remember about all the all the additional skin that comes with it.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, exactly, yeah. So I've gone a little bit wrinkly on my face, but I'm alright about that anyway.
SPEAKER_01Buy yourself, buy yourself some nice wrinkle cream.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm just not I'm just as my husband said, just don't smile that often. And you won't see wrinkles when you don't smile, so but yeah, no, I'm I'm alright about it. I'm more I'm more focused on having a healthier outlook on life and and a healthier body than he am about the wrinkles, you know. I'm in my 60s now, I'm not really bothered. Yeah, exactly. It's all downhill from now, isn't it? So no. I'm only joking. No, it's I'm 10 years ahead of you. No it's nice though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01It's nice to be able to uh I also think though those things are also that first of all from thinking from a work point of view, that those are good group sessions because they are so generic. Unless somebody's got a real, you know, had a really awful gym teacher or something that that needs more deep of work. Most of us that kind of group, particularly weight loss. Yeah. I think it's money spinning self-improvement there is.
SPEAKER_00Well, I I remember when I first qualified as a hypnotherapist, and I wasn't, even though I knew I wanted to work with children, I also wanted to see whether I could work with adults, you know, just as just as good, really. And I remember doing a lot of research. This is before AI, but I did a lot of research on the different weight loss programs you can you can get over here. And not one of them, not one of them at the time that I did the research, not one of them was giving you solutions. All it was was you just following a pathway to losing weight, losing you know, inches, whatever. And then when you stop, you pile it all back on because it didn't teach you what to do. Yeah, exactly, exactly. And I think this is where hypnosis comes in. And for me, in my opinion, it is so good at getting those messages into your subconscious mind and finding well, it's also because your subconscious knows all the messages that are there already.
SPEAKER_01Most of us are not consciously aware of the things.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, exactly. So I knew why I was overeating, I knew why I was compensating eating, and and it made me realize that I needed to do something about those things as well, and I did. So I've not been on the scales this week, so I don't know what the weekend might have given me if I'm being disciplined and only weighing yourself on a particular day of the week. On a Wednesday, way Wednesday, that's it. I don't hop on and off.
SPEAKER_01The daily ones are awful because the phone will be put three on, you're right, Mike.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah, no, weekly, way Wednesday, Wednesday morning before anything. But I when I always in the same clothing. Well, I'm usually I'm usually in, yeah, it's before it's usually before I get a shower because I didn't know this that you weigh heavier once you've had a shower. Really? Apparently so, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That means you forget to dry.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Apparently, you weigh heavier when you've had a shower or a bath. Interesting. You have to go on the ball bag and make it. Yeah, it's another thing. Yeah, so uh yeah, I'm gonna have a look because if that's true, then maybe we need to look at that as well. But I I interestingly, I spoke to somebody over the weekend who has done absolutely amazing on her weight loss journey, but she's using hypnosis, but she's also combined hypnosis with fasting as well. I've never done fasting. I know you have for religious purposes, haven't you?
SPEAKER_01But I've never I've tried it also for for other reasons. I check I sort of do a version of it. I eat twice a day. Whenever my first whenever I first get the eat, there's breakfast. It doesn't matter if it comes two in the afternoon. But and then there's dinner usually in my house, it's is sometime until six and seven. And then that's it. So that night time until I get around to eating in the morning, if that's that will keep us doing fast. Well that that's that's what I do. It's pretty much the same thing, yeah. It's knocking out the middle meal, I think. Oh, knocking out the little time I am challenged for that is if I've gone out along with other people and they won't get stopped for lunch. Right. Life happens and I will have lunch and if it's a big lunch, I don't need dinner.
SPEAKER_00That's true. Well, as far as confidence is concerned, do you feel that there's ever been times in your life when you've you needed a bit of a boost for confidence?
SPEAKER_01I had a huge need for it in my cheese. Yeah, many times or well the way too heavy duty for for this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But but yes, I had a lot of confidence issues and I kept a secret pretty much my told age until I was about 16. I didn't kind of go to the job. Right? Because the there were already negative messages around what I was capable of doing. And I didn't have any teachers that were particularly helpful. So the the the school I was at aimed at, you know, you you could be a nurse, or you could be a teacher, or you could be a shop assistant, or if you were bright enough, you could take typing and be a secretary, and that was about it. So I did manage to talk my way into the science club, which at the end of the time for the first year, which is very unusual. Yeah, but then I something happened when I went off into the world, and I you know I wasn't hearing the same, I was hearing different negative voices, but I had some I had some tools to work with that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, when I when I was at school, we had uh one careers officer that came round. I don't even know what year it was when they came round. I remember saying because I used to I used to run a lot, I was in an athletics club for years and years and years, and I wanted to be a physiotherapist because we had a physiotherapist at the athletics club. And when I told my careers officer, she looked at me with shock and horror and said, What? A physiotherapist? And I said, Yes. So she said, Oh no, she said, No, she said, I went to an all-girls grammar school as well, and she said, Oh no. Why was that woman allowed to be a licensed teacher? That's absolutely ridiculous. The careers officer, and she said, No, you become a teacher, you become a solicitor, you become an accountant, and exactly the same as you, or you go to college, and this is what they can offer you. You can become a bilingual secretary. I didn't want to be.
SPEAKER_01Where the heck did that come from?
SPEAKER_00I didn't want to be a solicitor, I didn't want to be an accountant. I like maths, but I didn't want to be an accountant.
SPEAKER_01Did you already have two languages, or was that a goal to speak?
SPEAKER_00I was. I was I was doing Spanish and French at school. Okay. So I actually went to college and I qualified as a bilingual secretary. Did I use it? No, not at all. I used my typing skills, but that was it.
SPEAKER_01No, but it's good when you're on holiday. You could read the menu and talk to people.
SPEAKER_00It's very good. I mean, I'm learning another language now, so I've got I'll I'll end up with four languages under my belt, which it I do.
SPEAKER_01I like a course of learning, but that knocks my confidence because that also it's somebody who is a teacher telling you you you're not good enough.
SPEAKER_00And it wasn't something, it wasn't something that I wanted to do, but I felt as if I had no choice. You think she just didn't know what a physiotherapist was?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I I don't I don't know why anybody would think no, you can be a bilingual secretary.
SPEAKER_00Maybe it was maybe it was a bit too I don't know, maybe it was a bit too woo woo for or something. I don't know. Woo woo physiotherapy.
SPEAKER_01Well yeah. Uh I wanted to be a hypnotist. I could see that coming back. You may want to consider a few other things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, so I went to college and I qualified as a bilingual secretary with Spanish and French and shorthand, which I've I and we all know how useful that is these days, yes. Well, yes, exactly. My typing skills, yes, you know, I suppose that was good, but this is before all computers before computers came in, so it was just a normal typewriter. And one of the jobs that I got, because I never settled in a job properly for years and years. Yeah, I wasn't quite sure where what I wanted to do, but I didn't like working in an office, but I did quite a lot of office work. But as far as self-improvement is concerned, I didn't do anything about my self-improvement and my confidence, really, until after I had the two.
SPEAKER_01I must think I take issue, and I'm gonna do it very I'm not quite sure that it's correct, but self-improvement is just that something you want. I want to improve the way you do it. You were being told you're not good enough, and that person doesn't know if she knew what the qualifications were in the first place. I think what physiotherapists signed our PhDs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think what she what she was doing really was just saying this avenue is not available to you. So I just was like a sheep and did you know what what other half a dozen or you know another 10 girls was doing from our school, but I didn't settle until after I had the children, and then I thought, do you know what? This is when I want to to do something for me, and this is where I started to do things. So I did go to university for physiotherapy, I did end up going to university, and then of course, the rest is history. And then you you morphed into a different aspect of it, another another therapist, yeah. You weren't you were an occupational therapist at work? No, I was I I went I joined the NHS as a therapy assistant, and then I went to university to do physio. I was seconded to physio, but unfortunately, two and a half years into the course, it was a four-year course, but two and a half years into the course, my mum was very, very ill, and my parents, as you know, lived in John of Groats, right at the top of Scotland. So the commute there was taking a lot of my time up. So the university was very, very good and deferred all my vibers, deferred all my exams until the inevitable happened. And then when it did, it was a case of right, come on, you've got to do them all now. And that's when I needed more of the support. So my manager at work said to me, Well, what do you want to do? Do you want to pack it in? So I said, Yeah, so I did. But two and a half years of a four-year course, I did lower limb. Lower limb, upper limb, respiratory. So, you know, I can still use them, and I still use them in my job working in the NHS because it was occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and language. So I worked in this integrated service tar for of targeted children. So I worked in mainstream schools, special schools in the community, and in clinics. So it didn't, you know, it didn't, I didn't lose anything, didn't lose anything at all.
SPEAKER_01Well, there's that life, life is sometimes focused on serious purpose, and it usually just takes you to a more interesting place if you're willing to look.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. But what it's done for me is it's it's made me that setback, or I it was you know, over a 20-year period, but what it's done for me is it's made me think that I am not going to listen to anybody else again. When I make it sometimes they know what they're talking about, you don't want to just knock everything out completely. You know what I mean? As far as far as my choices are concerned, if I if I want to do something, then I will do something as long as it's within my remit, I will do it legal. Yeah, of course, and I will not listen, I will not listen to anybody saying, Well, that's not available. If somebody says to me that's not available, I go, hmm, well, let's find a way to do this. The same as I did for my NLP course, the same as I did for my hypnosis course as well, because it costs, doesn't it? You have to pay money in order to qualify. So I thought, right, well, I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna pay for it all myself, and I did. So and it's I just think I feel so sorry for the children now nowadays, I really do. I just think that they're they're sort of guided, aren't they? You know, over what what's possible, and there's a lot more out there today than what we had, and the options that we had, because I was only, I think, I think it was nine years behind you, something like that. And it was when I think about the options that I had, it didn't do my confidence any good whatsoever, you know. Whereas I think now that the kids have more choice, but I do think they have more freedom of choice as well. And I do think that uh educations evolved in that way, higher educations evolved in that way. That you know it ended up in the world.
SPEAKER_01Open university hadn't been around that it was around, but I mean it wasn't as much.
SPEAKER_00I could have gone to OpenU too, and yeah, it wasn't as popular, was it then at all?
SPEAKER_01So no, it really it was really aimed at the post-war generation. My my parents who were kids during the war, they my mum was 14, my dad 16, when the war ended. So my dad liked Mr. Play. I think it was there, but my mum kind of wanted to go over to and do English. She did a lot of things, she did really, really well. And uh and then she stopped and I think that's that's where she would have benefited from having some hypnosis because she didn't you know nobody was saying yes, of course you can do it, Mervyn.
SPEAKER_00It is about I mean kids nowadays they they can they can come and see people like myself and people like you as as well for that confidence, can't they? Where there was nothing available when we were younger, nothing like that at all.
SPEAKER_01No, you need at least one person in your corner, that's what it is.
SPEAKER_00You do, you do, yeah, you do, and I uh I'm very selflessly fighting my corner for me because there was nobody there to fight my corner. My dad worked away as well, so my dad wasn't there, my mum where did your family move to John of Groats? My parents moved to John of Groats in 1989 for a job, which they like. No, my uh my dad retired. He he he he worked abroad, he worked abroad a lot for an American oil company in in Saudi Arabia, and then he came home, worked at Manchester Business School, and then decided to retire, but he didn't want to stay in Manchester, so they we toured Scotland in '76, and my parents were always going up there, you know, consecutive years, and they fell in love with the place. So when this beautiful little cottage came up for sale in John A Groats, they'd been staying in Johnna Groats, made friends with this lovely couple who were very, very dear to us as a family, and rang my mum and dad up and said there's this cottage for sale, why don't you come up and have a look? And they did fell in love with it, bought it, and stayed there.
SPEAKER_01Wonderful. I d I've never been to Johnna Groats. I've been to Scotland, but I don't think I got any further than Edinburgh. If if you when I think of the top part of Scotland, I don't see a lot of people in my head. How how big what were the services available to them? Do they have to medical services that they do they have to travel for?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they did. They had to go into the next village, which is which is not far. The nearest supermarket, big supermarket, was 17 miles away. That was in what's called Wick. But their uh the population of Donna Grotzman, my parents lived there was about 192. Not very many. I think there's more sheep and cattle than than people, you know, more animals really.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, I must admit, you know, I fell in love. I would love to go to Shetland Isles, but I don't think I could live there.
SPEAKER_00Beautiful, beautiful place. And we used to go up and the rat race of living in it, even though we only live in a town, the rat race of living in the town and and moving up there was just like oh, just bliss, absolute bliss. But after a few weeks, you want to come back to what you used to. So, yeah, it was lovely. Okay, so I should say bye-bye.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, dear.
SPEAKER_00You'll take it care. Okay, okay, bye-bye. We hope you've enjoyed listening.
