Welcome to AI Inten. I'm Chuck Getchell, and every day I break down the biggest AI story in just 10 minutes. What it is, why it matters, and how you can actually use it. Open AI just turned Chat GPT into something that works for you while you sleep. I'm Chuck Getchell, this is AI Inten. What happened? Why it matters, what you can do with it. Let's go. So let's set the scene for a second. For the last couple of years, AI has mostly been a really impressive helper. You ask it a question, it answers, you paste in a document, it summarizes, you type a prompt, it writes a first draft, you're still doing the driving. AI is just riding shotgun. That changed today. OpenAI announced chat GPT work, say, and this is not just a new feature, it's a different category of tool entirely. Instead of waiting for you to ask it things, it goes and does things on its own, across your apps, your files, your accounts. We're talking about a system that can log into your tools, move information between them, and complete multi-step tasks from start to finish. Without you babysitting every click. Think about what that actually means. You wake up Monday morning, you tell ChatGPT work, hey, pull last week's sales numbers from the spreadsheet, drop the highlights into a slide deck, and send a summary email to the team. And it does all three, not just one, all three, in sequence. While you're pouring your coffee, that's not a chat bot anymore, that's a digital coworker. One that doesn't need health insurance, by the way. Now let me explain what's technically going on here in plain English. AI tools have been able to use individual apps for a while. ChatGPT can browse the web, work with uploaded files, connect to certain plugins, but those were reactive, yeah, you poked it, it poked back. ChatGPT work flips that relationship. You give it a goal, a destination, and the agent figures out the route itself. It plans the steps, executes them in order, and interacts with connected services along the way. Calendars, email, documents, spreadsheets, project management tools, all fair game. This is what people in the AI world have been calling agentic AI, which is basically tech speak for AI that acts, not just advises. And for most people, today is the first time that concept gets a real product behind it inside a tool they already use. Now, who actually built this thing and why does it matter that it's open AI? Good question. OpenAI isn't the only company chasing this space. Microsoft has been pushing its co-pilot assistant into every corner of the office suite. Google has Gemini baked into Gmail and Docs. Salesforce has AI embedded in its sales tools. But here's the thing, most of those are still inside one ecosystem. They're great at doing AI stuff inside Office or inside Google, but they don't move between worlds very fluidly. ChatGPT work is designed to sit on top of all of it. It's more like a general contractor who can work across job sites rather than a specialist who only knows one building. And because hundreds of millions of people already use ChatGPT every day, the on-ramp here is very short. You don't have to adopt a new platform. The tool you already open every morning just got a lot more powerful. Alright, let's make this real. Let's talk about who this actually affects, starting with you. If you work in any kind of office environment, you spend a surprising percentage of your week doing stuff that is, let's be honest, completely mechanical. Copying numbers from one document into another, writing the same weekly update you've written 43 times, scheduling meetings, organizing files, reformatting reports so they look presentable. None of that requires your brain, it just requires your time. And Chat GPT work is coming for all of it. For administrative professionals, executive assistants, operations coordinators. This is the one to watch closely. Not because your job disappears tomorrow, but because the tasks that currently fill your day are exactly the tasks this tool was built to handle. The smart move is not to panic. The smart move is to become the person who directs the agent and reviews the work. Move from doing the task to managing the process. That's actually a higher value role. For analysts, consultants, and anyone who works with data, think about how much time you spend preparing to do the actual thinking, pulling the data, cleaning it up, moving it into a presentation, writing the intro and conclusion around the charts. ChatGPT work can handle a huge chunk of the prep work, which means you get to spend more time on the part that actually requires your judgment. That's a trade I'd take all day. And for freelancers and small business owners, this might be the biggest deal of all. If you're a one-person show, you are constantly wearing hats you don't want to wear: finance hat, admin hat, client communication hat, marketing hat. A capable work agent is essentially giving you a back office staff member you could never afford to hire. That is a genuine competitive advantage. And it's available right now. Now, I want to be honest about the things that deserve your attention, right? Because not everything here is sunshine and automation. When you give an AI agent access to your files and your accounts, you are extending real trust. The agent can read your documents, it might interact with company systems, it might send something on your behalf. That's powerful and it comes with responsibility. If you work at a company, find out what your employer's policy is before you connect work accounts to any AI agent. Some companies will have guardrails in place, others will be scrambling to figure it out. You don't want to accidentally route sensitive client data somewhere it shouldn't go because you assumed it was fine. Asking that question early makes you look thoughtful, not paranoid. And I'll say this as a general principle. Always treat AI agents like a very capable new hire who needs to be supervised. You wouldn't hand a brand new employee your password and say handle everything on day one. Same logic applies here. Start with low-stakes tasks, review the outputs, build trust over time. That's just good operating procedure. So what's the one thing you can do with this right now? Here it is, and it's simpler than you might expect. Make a list of the five most repetitive tasks in your week. The stuff you could practically do in your sleep, the ones that eat 30 minutes here, an hour there, and add up to a serious chunk of your Monday. Write them down. Actually, write them down, not in your head, just on paper or in a document. Then next to each one, write what the inputs are and what the finished output looks like. Because that list, that's your personal automation roadmap. Those are the exact workflows you'll be handing off to an AI agent in the coming months. You don't have to wait for Chat GPT work to be in your account to start this exercise. The prep work is the same regardless of which agent tool you use. And when the tool does arrive, you'll be the person in the room who already knows exactly what to do with it. Everyone else will still be figuring out what it is. That gap is where opportunity lives. If you want to go even further with this, really understand how to build workflows, direct agents, and apply AI across your career. Our applied AI certification at AI Hammock is designed exactly for people like you, non-technical professionals who want to go past casual curiosity and earn a real credential, worth looking into if you're serious about staying ahead of this curve. Here's the bottom line on chat GPT work. The AI conversation is shifting fast. It's not just AI can help me write better anymore, it's AI can do a significant portion of my digital workload if I know how to direct it. The people who figure out how to be great managers of AI agents are going to be extraordinarily valuable in the next few years. The people who don't may find their workload has been reassigned to someone who did. This isn't about fear, it's about being the one who moves first. That's today's AI intent.
