Hello Hoovers is a refreshingly candid new podcast from country artist Brooke Eden and her wife, Hilary Hoover, a powerhouse couple whose love story has quietly reshaped what authenticity looks like in country music and beyond.

Brooke is known for her commanding vocals, fearless honesty, and groundbreaking visibility as one of the first openly queer women in mainstream country music. Hilary is a former country radio executive turned real estate investor and LGBTQ family advocate. She brings the kind of calm wit and lived experience of someone who is both behind the scenes and in the spotlight.

Together, they take listeners on wild ride navigating marriage, music, motherhood, and modern queer life in Nashville with the same warmth and humor that made fans fall in love with them in the first place. No topic is off limits —from coming out in a conservative industry to balancing career and parenthood, no conversation is too real, too funny, or too tender to share.

SPEAKER_00

Hey y'all, I'm Brooke. I'm Hillary. And we're the Hoovers. She's a singer. She's an entrepreneur. We're wives. We're moms. And a whole lot of other things. And this is Hello Hoovers.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, we're in our pink era here. Look at us good. I looked over at you and I'm like, pink pants, pink hat. We got some pink lights. I got my picture. Not on purpose again. Oops. Um, what does your hat say? Gay outlaw shit. I mean, just pretty much all your favorite words. So you were just telling me about this TikToker, which let me preface this by saying, I'm not like good at social media, like as far as like getting to know the lesbian TikTok things. Um, Brooke is much more.

SPEAKER_00

Meanwhile, my algorithm is like lesbian. Lesbian TikTok, lesbian couples. Um it's really just very queer. Like I've just lived on like gay TikTok for like the last four years where you're not really a TikToker, so your algorithm hasn't really figured itself out yet.

SPEAKER_01

You think you should say lesbian just like a few more times. Lesbian, lesbian, lesbian. But you were telling me about this um lesbian who um had more of a like mask vibe. Oh, yes, at the beginning, and then it's kind of like switched over her look to be like more femme and it just like got my brain thinking.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was a jump scare for me on TikTok because I was so confused because I had I knew that I had seen this person on TikTok before, but like could not connect it to a person, and I was so confused. And then I finally found a video where she was talking about this like transformation that she was having, where she knew that she had presented mask for a long time. Her name, if if if anyone also on here follows, like lesbian tick tock, or if that's what your algorithm is, it's Lundy. Lundy. Lundy was like the TikTok, like lesbian. I think she was like a model. She dated another model. Like they were this gorgeous lesbian couple in the height of lesbian TikTok, right? So like I knew who she was. Yeah, she was kind of like a thirst trap, like mask, like, what's up, little lady? Like that kind of little lady. Is that your impression of mask? No, it's like it's like it's very that.

SPEAKER_01

That's and now she's like that's Brick's impression of being a mask lesbian, by the way. Babe, do you remember when I everyone in this room is loling at birth right now for attempting to look to be a mask lesbian.

SPEAKER_00

No, do you remember this? Is this total side story? Total side story. Do you remember when we went to Gainesville? You were so pregnant about to pop pregnant, and we um I was doing the SEC, the the song for the SEC, and they had me at the first SEC game, which so happened to be on my album otter. Yeah. And they gave me like a bucket hat and a jersey with no sleeves.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I we will track on a picture to share with y'all because Brooke instantly she puts on this jersey and bucket hat and like there were pants, I think.

SPEAKER_00

The pants were like a little baggy, which like in the like the the outfit that I had on with it, it was like baggy blue, like gator blue pants with like this little half top, right? As soon as the half top became a jersey, I became daddy. Like so fast.

SPEAKER_01

You did this whole, like, you had this whole energy that was all of a sudden like Brooke's mask. It like freaked all of us out because it is so different than your normal energy, but it all of a sudden, like, it was believable. I was like, okay, this is her enough.

SPEAKER_00

Me out how quickly I just like bam, I like snapped into like zaddy zaddy zaddy, and it was the crazy, it was the craziest like energy shift that I felt in my body, and I was like, that just it freaks me out. I was like, I gotta take this hat off immediately. Like, I don't know what's going on. It was wild.

SPEAKER_01

So this girl now has a very feminine energy, yeah. And so she's like trying to figure out like what's most authentic to her and like how she's presenting and how maybe so. What's her reasoning for not like for presenting mask in the first place?

SPEAKER_00

She said it was like more of a protection. Okay. She said I called it identity, but I realized it was more for protection. And I kind of do get a little bit of that, especially when you're like new to being gay, you know, it's easier. Like I and you, like we have to come out every day. Yeah. Like you don't see us and think gay. Especially if like as solo, like if I'm out doing something and you're out doing something, no one would ever clock that. No one would ever clock that. But like if you present more gay, you're not explaining yourself. People aren't like, are you sure? And I will also say that, like, when I I dated a masked lesbian before I dated Hillary. When I dated a masked lesbian, a guy found out that I was with her and he was like, Oh, okay, okay, she goes, like, she's got you. When I'm with Hill, men are immediately like, so you guys ever want to do a menace et toile? And we're like, ew, the whole point of being a lesbian is that you're not with a man. Like, that's the whole point. Stop. Like, get out of here. But it's interesting that when there's like a mask energy involved, the guys are like, oh, okay, like, brother, she got it, you know, she got you.

SPEAKER_01

He's like, she's a bro, she's a bro, yeah. Totally. Okay, so you were saying that she like has found that the people that she date, or like the the dating pool's different too, because of like there does tend to be a thing, and like I know that like in gay culture, like there's a lot of subcategories, gay boy culture, yes. And I feel like in lesbian culture, it's either seen as like femme or mask. And this is just me like talking from like my experience. I'm sure there's just like a lot more knowledge that we don't even really know because we haven't been out in a dating pool. Yeah, but it does feel very much like I'm look, I'm femme and I'm looking for femme, or I'm mask and I'm looking for femme. And it just like kind of puts people in literally like splits you in half and puts you in two categories. But and I do think with like her, I bet I bet she's sitting there going, Well, I attracted a certain type of people and now I'm attracting different type of people, and like who is she wanting to actually attract to begin with? Totally.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, your dating pool does change when you start to present differently. Yeah, like it just will. And like there could be some overlap there because I do think that with women a lot of it is energy, right? Like, what are you exuding? But her whole everything has changed. Like, if you look at old Lundy and like look at her, she's like body for Michelle now, or body by Michelle, it's a whole different energy. Like, everything has changed. Her look has changed, the way she talks talks has changed, the way that her body language has changed, like literally everything has changed.

SPEAKER_01

I was just thinking like about how we're both like femme women, and I feel, but at the same time, like there's no part of me that feels masculine. I don't feel like wearing masculine clothes, I don't feel like having masculine, no part of me feels that way. With that being said, I wear very minimal makeup. You are into clothes, you're into hair, you're into shopping, you're into fashion different fashion looks. I don't even literally don't even know how to verbalize it. And like, so it's so funny that we both are considered femme, but sometimes I'm like, okay, but I'm not that type of femme. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

I think that you're like a lip gloss lesbian, and I'm like a full-on lip liner lesbian. Yeah, I mean, I can see it right now. You got that lip liner? I love my lip liner.

SPEAKER_01

She loves her lip liner. But I I feel like then you're put in boxes though, because I'm over here like I'm a lipstick lesbian, but I would way rather be grabbing a beer and talking sports with whoever than I would going shopping. Like, please don't make me go shopping. So then, but then I'm feminine looking. So then how does that work? Like, I feel like I need like a lesbian education.

SPEAKER_00

You like live in both boxes, right? Which is so interesting. If anybody knows, if anybody listening knows like where to categorize Hill, please give us an education. What type of lesbian am I?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Please explain. I mean, like, is it like a sporty femme? Sporty femme. I don't know. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I have no clue. I think that actually is right where you're, I don't know if that's a category, but we're gonna make it one because it is so interesting, y'all. Like when Hillary's mom and sister come into town, they are girly girl to the max. Like, so girly girl. And like when I met Hill, you were like bright neon colors and sparkly everything and glitter everything. And like I will say that you're not really that anymore. You're like a lot more like athleisure wear, and baby, no complaints over here. Like, you look hot as hell in a sweatsuit. Like, I'm all about it. I'm all about it. That works. But I think that it's so funny because like when your parents or when your mom and sister come in town, like we start, we'll be shopping, you know, like we'll be like going around the gold shopping, and you'll do it for about one half of a store, and then you're like, I'm gonna hit the sports bar, I'm gonna go have a beer. Yeah, no rush.

SPEAKER_01

I like a view, give me like a fun rooftop. Like, I'm not just beer in sports, like I like other things, but I just don't like to shop, and I'm not gonna try to act like I do. Yeah, you also get like my mom and sister were like call and be like, what shoes should I wear with this? And I'm always like, Why like I like turn the FaceTime to you? Or they and nowadays they just call you directly. But like it just feels like I'm like, oh, I'm like I'm a girl, but I'm not like a real girl. I feel like I have to remind you of that a lot. You'll be like, okay, do I keep these pants? And I'm like, honey, I love you and you look good, but like I'm not a real girl. You're asking the wrong person. I'm a girl boy. Oh you're a boy girl. I'm a girl husband.

SPEAKER_00

You I do feel like I have a husband at time. It kind of feels that way, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Sure.

SPEAKER_00

But like I have like the love of a wife, but like the the brain of a husband, kind of.

SPEAKER_01

I and I think we were talking too about the energy thing because like if you know like okay, I can't even say if one of us was single because that sounds bad. Like we have to kill each other off or something. But like in another universe where like we are exactly who we are, but the other person doesn't exist, like it's hard to imagine. Like you, I feel like you would be like into more feminine girls, but at the same time, you like like uh like a boss energy or something. Oh, you're more energy than looks, I feel like so freaking lutely.

SPEAKER_00

I just want you to like be so kind and fun, but also like take care of me and let me take care of you. Like, I want you to boss me around and like baby, you are bossy in the best way. I'm glad that you feel that way when I'm telling you like to go do the dishes or something. Oh, yeah. When you tell me to go do the dishes. Honey, I know my job. I'm just kidding. But no, like I like I I'm all about like I like a woman who's in charge. Yeah. And which is crazy because I'm also in fucking charge. Right, right. It's like this little like weaved web where like we know our roles, and like I also very much take care of you too. But when we met, you your job was literally taking me around the country and introducing me to country radio, and you literally said the first week that we met, we got on a southwest plane, and this woman had taken like probably a thousand flights in the first. I had status. Yes, she had status everywhere, she had status with Marriott, she had status with Southwest. I immediately became her companion two weeks after we met because lesbians, but we very much were like Southwest on this flight, and she gave me her Wi-Fi, like her login for the Wi-Fi. And I was like, I get free Wi-Fi now, and you were like, Yeah, also I'll make you my companion. And I was like, I fly for free with you, and you were like, Yeah, and then you go, stick with me. I did say stick with me, it's true. I'm dying, like I'm like, I'm like, oh my god. I'm like so in love with you. Like, what am what am I supposed to do with this girl?

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember that now it's making sense because you remember about five minutes later when you started asking about my eye color? And I was like, I have brown eyes, and you were This was so funny.

SPEAKER_00

We're sitting, Hillary's a window sitter, always has been. And I think I was sitting in the middle, and um the it was like sunset, so like the sun was coming in the window at like just the perfect angle, and your eyes were all like glittery, and I literally could not tell like the color of them because I now know that you have brown eyes. I have brown eyes in the moment, they were kind of like green, kind of yellow, like just giving little uh she was staring deep into my soul.

SPEAKER_01

We had been met four or five days before, and she was staring deep into my soul. I was just looking at her eye color, she has pretty eyes and saying, What color eyes do you have? And I was like, they're they're brown.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, are they like green or yellow? Or she looks at me and she goes, they're brown. Yeah, because and like looks out the window, and I was like, damn, she seems mad.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because like stop looking into my soul, okay? Like, whoa. We got together two weeks after we met. So that's where the companion pass and the um stick with me and all that kind of stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Stick with me happened before that was five days after we met, was stick with me. And I literally was just like, I said yes, ma'am.

SPEAKER_01

Said heard, yeah, heard, and then five seconds later I'm gonna stare into your soul and ask about your eye color. You know, they're brown, they're brown, yeah. So that was I feel like that was a move looking back, but um it wasn't a move, I was genuinely confused about the color of your eyes.

SPEAKER_00

You were pulled into my boss energy, yes. That is such a thing. Like, I do think that I mean, I was dating a masked lesbian before I met you, you know, and then like you are very girly, and I love how girly you are, you know. Like, I love like the kind of like mixture, but like you could could have probably been anything as long as you bossed me around.

SPEAKER_01

The one time you said this to me, which made me laugh because I was like, you're into femme women, but I'm not like one, like I'm not into makeup. Like if she's like going to Sephora or something, like I don't have anything to add to that. I don't have a fucking clue. I don't have a clue. So sometimes I think like, oh, like she she wishes that I was like more into hair, more into makeup. So I asked you this one time, and I was like, Do you wish that like when we went to like pick out makeup that I was like all excited with you or like let's run to the mall and go? And you your response surprised me. You were like, Yeah, I don't need somebody to like share the mirror with. Like, I'm good, I'm good. Isn't that what you said? Yeah, yeah. You're like, I don't, and it made me laugh because I thought you would be like, Oh, I wish that you were more into hair and makeup and stuff.

SPEAKER_00

There's only room for one diva in this relationship, baby.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you got the spot, love.

SPEAKER_00

I do like that you like if I'm like, can I just like do your makeup and hair one night? Can I address you? Like, you're like, please. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, I feel like if you're like, no, I don't want any of that stuff, like, then I'd be like, babe, just like let me play.

SPEAKER_01

I like I'll wear like dresses and I'll like I go to dry bar, I'll get my nails done. So I'm that's why my like identity in the lesbian community is confusing because I'm like, yes, if you like looked at me, you'd be like, femme lesbian, but my interests aren't really femme. Like I present femme, but my interests aren't femme. You know, so that's where it's confusing for me. Yeah, no, that's very, very true. I don't know. I just thought that like you would like it more if I was like into like I'm just not into like clothes or like I don't really care what I look like necessarily. I do a little bit, but I don't really like wanna like spend hours like doing my hair and makeup and clothes.

SPEAKER_00

The reality of this situation is that you are like a man in the sense that you can pick something up off the ground, throw it on, and you look good. Like you can literally just like kind of wake up like this and go out. Meanwhile, like I'm blonde, I have like blonde lashes, like I'm gonna have to work to look like you look.

SPEAKER_01

I think that you're a little biased because you love me. Um, I think it's more that you just prioritize it more, so you need more time. Like, I I will get ready in 15 minutes almost every time, but it's not because I'm like, oh, I already look good. It's because I don't prioritize it. You know what I mean? You just don't care.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I feel worse. Like when I don't look good, I'll be like, I like don't present in the same way. Like I don't, I don't walk into the world with as much confidence if I don't, if I don't feel like I look my best. Yeah. Which is like is that society? I don't know. I think it's literally from like within me that like I just put my best foot forward when I have like spent some time making myself feel like me. What's also interesting though, babe, is how many phases I went through to get to me. And there probably will be more.

SPEAKER_01

There will be more. But like I mean, honey, you're in your 30s. You got a lot more phases ahead of you, but it is funny. It is funny. We need to do some sort of like carousel of AJs and phases. Okay, when I met you, you were well, I guess, I guess I met you in your like black leather phase. Yes. But be right before that phase, you had a flower child phase. I did. Which those do not seem like they would go hand in hand.

SPEAKER_00

Not not right up back up against each other.

SPEAKER_01

So we had we had let's back up even further. Yeah. We had like your pictures from like high school. I know these are like pageants and like and um dances and stuff, but like you had like Barbie pink, like you had pageant girl Barbie pink Barbie in like I don't know, high school college. And then post-college, we had the um flower child.

SPEAKER_00

No, you forgot the Hoochie Mama. Well, I was gonna leave that one out. Like I went, but full on Hoochie Mama, as long as I was like kind of almost wearing no clothes, but like a shit ton of jewelry, that was my style.

SPEAKER_01

I was literally like my this is what went on in my brain. I was like, well, there was like the Barbie pink, and then in college she had Hoochie Mama, but in my head, I was like, I'm gonna let that one go and just skip forward. And I love how you're like, let's go back. Okay, so we had pageant girl, Barbie doll. Then we had Hoochie Mama, the less clothes the better.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Then we had Hippie Girl. Hippie Girl was like early 20s, like post-college, early 20s.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Hoochie Girl was Hoochie Mama was also like post-college, like my first year of like doing gigs. I mean, it was Hoochie Mama shorts, like coochie cutters, like all the way up. Coochie cutters, and then like high boots, and then like just so much jewelry, and like like a a wife beater, which we now call a spouse pleaser.

SPEAKER_01

Is that what it is?

SPEAKER_00

Partner pleaser, that's what we call it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, got it, got it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so then we had um, so then we had hippies hippie, hippie, and then we went into black leather, and this is when you knew like my gayness was really beginning to ooze out because I felt like so gay in myself, but I wasn't allowed to like talk about it or really like be it outwardly. So I was like, I'm just gonna like dress like a fucking cowboy.

SPEAKER_01

So I had like my cowboy, more of like a biker, biker guy. Biker bitch, biker bitch, yeah. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

Sure. Whatever you want to call it. I just felt like I had to like get a little bit of like my mask out, like a little bit of my cowboy had to come out. I like dressed like my dad with a wig on. Like that's pretty much like what my style was. And like add like a little bit more bling, and like that was me from like 2013, uh, 2014 to like 2016, 19. Okay, what's your next phase? So then I come out, right? Uh-huh. And then I'm like rainbow dressed. Yes. Rainbow, rainbow, rainbow.

SPEAKER_01

How can you did like powder or like um pastels and like big curls at one point? It was like curls and pastels, like like pretty southern woman.

SPEAKER_00

Well, she was like soulful, girly, colorful, girly, beach, uh like cowgirl-ish. Uh-huh. Um, but yeah, I do feel like the less I was able to present as myself, I had to like dress that way. And then as soon as I was able to like be myself, I didn't feel like I had to present that way as much anymore. Totally. So maybe that's what Lundy's doing up in here. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

So then you were like extremely colorful. And that was like over the past few years. I feel like you're entering, like, you're still colorful, but I feel like you're entering your like, I don't Know you're getting more into like beigees and like natural and like um in my hot pink neon. I know, I know, but like a lot of wear is like more neutrals and stuff like that. I don't know what to call this era, but I'm sure there's so many more to come. I do think it's like Western Beachy Cowgirl. Western beachy cowgirl heard it here first. So we're in western beachy cowgirl phase and can't wait to see what happens next. Yeah. Um, but we were talking about um we were talking about how straight boys and how they respect relationships, how you were saying you felt like you got more respect on relationships when your partner was masked. And I feel like that's such a like it's just so interesting that like that we have trouble with like straight boys respecting our relationship. And it's like as lesbians, we just like see right through these boys, right through them. I know, and it sounds like we're not like we have so many sweet boys in our life, sweet straight boys. Some of our best friends are straight men. We just would like to reiterate that before we get a bad reputation as man-hating lesbians, but also some of our friends have the greatest husbands, yes, a lot of especially a lot of the Midwestern boys. Like so, I want to start by saying we love a lot of straight boys, yeah, but we also have noticed that a lot of times our friends are like share stories about like a guy that they're dating, and we're over here like we have we don't have the blinders on that a lot of straight girls have where they're like, buddy's cute. So then they like let him get by with way too much. And we have to come in and like drop some truth. Some of our friends call Brooke Brooke the truth Eden because she always always dropping truth bombs.

SPEAKER_00

I know, and I feel like I have like that tough love, like that mama tough love energy, but someone's gotta do it. Like big sis, someone's gotta come in and be like, he's just not that into you, or like that is a red flag that I can't look past, and you might be able to look past because you think he's hot and you want that D. But like I have no interest, and I can just tell you that this is bad news bears waiting.

SPEAKER_01

We have some friends that have some like horrible stories. Oh my god. We're just over here, like, girl, like what is up? Come on. And I feel like sometimes we need to like come in and like insert ourselves and be like, all right, listen, this is the T. It's kind of like he's just not that into you. It's kind of like that friend that's like, yo, this is what's up. I feel like, okay, so I was thinking what we should do is start having people, and like obviously the lesbians are and the gays are invited to this as well. But I think what would be fun is if people wrote like what they were going through in their relationship or like crazy stories or like help me with advice. Yes, or like, is this guy like I'm getting mixed signals? Like, is he really into me? And like we can come in with like a clear head and be like, yo, here's the T. Like, we're just like your lesbian besties that can just like jump in and like give the real tea on like what the deal is with these boys.

SPEAKER_00

Love lessons from lesbians, love lessons from lesbians, love lessons from lesbians. Okay, let's make that a segment for next season.

SPEAKER_01

I was gonna say we don't have any like lined up right now, but that would be really cool to do, is where people send in, like, either whether it's a crazy story or like they're confused about what's going on.

SPEAKER_00

If you like need advice, yeah, I love it.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's hilarious. That would be so fun. Yeah, because either we get to hear some crazy lesbian stories or gay stories, or we can come in and be like, okay, girl, like for the straights. Yes, this is what's up with him. Yes, we got you, and also because like we a lot of these people we don't necessarily know personally, like sometimes you ask your girlfriend and you're like getting like having brunch with them, and they're like so sweet, and they're like, He loves you, yeah, and you're like, that's sweet that like you're showing support, but sometimes you need like an outside perspective to be like, excuse me, what's happening here? Yes, okay, so this is our last episode for our first season, which has been really fun, but it's been so much fun. Um, and so we are gonna take a few months and kind of our busy season and hone in on some other things.

SPEAKER_00

Pride is coming up, yeah. The summer season is just always so busy.

SPEAKER_01

So we're gonna hone in on that. Yeah. Take a breather on the podcast just for a few months. But we're not going anywhere.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, we're still gonna be all up all over your feed, and you're still gonna see what's going on in our life. It's just not gonna be for like 40 minutes every week. Yeah, so um, I do think though, we do bring this segment in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I love that. You guys have to send us your stories. Yeah, we will we will chat. We will chat about you guys. Either send it into um our DMs on Hello Hoovers, or you can send it to hello at Hello Hoovers.com. And we just we want to hear the crazy tea. We need to hear what's going on. And then also in there, let us know like if you just like want to tell us the story and you don't want us to tell it on the pod because we're good secret keepers. We were in the closet for years, or if we're okay to like talk about it on the pod and kind of give you like real-time advice. We can also keep it anonymous, we can totally keep it anonymous. We can tell your story, but just don't say your name. Like, tell us your level of like secrecy, and we got you. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

I just want to have a sentimental moment where I get to talk about how wrapping up our first season, how it's just been so cool. We were like, let's just start, like, we had so many people in our DMs, so many people that we felt could be our community and didn't know how to like bring everybody together. And now we've had so many people come up to us, either like in our DMs or in person, have come up to us and been like, okay, your podcast like every Monday morning, like that's what I do on my way to work. And like just to hear y'all's feedback has been so much fun. To feel this community building has been so much fun. Yeah. And um, I'm excited. Like, we we aren't going anywhere. Make sure you're following today, since it's gonna be the last episode for a bit. Um, make sure you're following Brooke, make sure you're following the podcast page and make sure you're following me so that we can stay up to date in touch all all summer long until we get get back on the pod. So this has been fun. Man, I was just thinking too, like, we're planning on taking a few months off and just um chat with you guys on socials. But if you have tea or you have a question, just send it to us anyway because we could either um chat about it in our stories or like on our pages and like kind of give advice or be able to tell your story, connect, or we could maybe possibly do like a little one-off episode and and get a chance to talk to you guys.
