Episode 7 – Over-Caffeinated Dads

Episode 7 is packed with caffeine-fueled conversations, good food, and plenty of dad-level opinions. This week we introduce a brand-new segment, dig into some outdoor gear talk, and of course nerd out about off-road rigs.

First up, we debut our new segment Local Locale, where we spotlight local spots worth checking out. For our first feature we grabbed some food from Burrito Beast and put it to the test. We talk about the menu, what we ordered, and whether it lives up to the hype. If you’re in Hobbs and looking for a place to grab a solid burrito, you’ll definitely want to hear our thoughts.

Next, we head to the outdoors in our segment The Bivouac. Whether you’re hiking, camping, overlanding, or just spending a lot of time outside, a good pair of boots makes all the difference. We break down some of our favorite boots for outdoor use, what we look for in durability and comfort, and why the right footwear can make or break your trip.

Finally, we pop the hood in Under the Hood, where we talk about the off-road rigs we drive and the ones we dream about owning someday. From capable trail builds to future wish-list rigs, we share what we love about them and what makes a great off-road vehicle in our eyes.

So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join us for another episode of Over-Caffeinated Dads—where the coffee is strong, the opinions are stronger, and the conversations go everywhere.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back, y'all, over caffeinated dads, episode seven. Lucky number seven. Lucky seven. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We're back like they tried to cancel us, trying to cancel us.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we just can't can't keep us away. I think it was the Asians. That was the ATF. It was the ATF. They raided us. No, we got some good got some good segments coming up. We actually got a kicking off with a kind of a new one. Um local local. Local local local local local. Local locale. And uh local locale. Kind of trying to do some of our local stuff. Um trying to branch out to our community, kind of build our community a little bit.

SPEAKER_02

And let's be honest, it's food.

SPEAKER_00

It's food.

SPEAKER_02

Food.

SPEAKER_00

And we're all hungry right now, so it's gonna it's gonna be awesome. I think Nick has a little backstory on him.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. So we're excited to announce that burrito beast is open. A little local spot for those of you that don't live in Hobbs, New Mexico. It's basically a Chipotle of the of Southeast New Mexico. Hey, yay, yay, yay! They're located at 4,000 for sure. Hey, Mark Bark. My son's have Mexican. It's where the old play was like a UPS store that used to be there. They knocked it down, built a whole new beautiful building. Um, they did?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I thought it was the same building. They just revamped it a little bit.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, they tore that back right to the ground and started over again.

SPEAKER_00

Let's be honest. I knew there was something there and I just never really paid attention to it.

SPEAKER_02

Nobody cared about what it was. Plug. Ums. Zane knows the IYKYK C.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

For a city that's been begging for Chipotle, we've finally got the perfect hometown, locally owned replacement. Um, yeah, Jordan's got Jordan's got a picture of the burrito beast. The menu El Menu.

SPEAKER_01

Unleash the beast. Unleash the beast.

SPEAKER_02

You can build your own burritos, bowls, salads. They've got tacos and quesadillas as well as chips, queso, guacamole. Uh meats include chicken.

SPEAKER_01

Next Spanish came out there a little bit.

SPEAKER_02

Asada steak, pastor. Barbacoa, seasonal, and veggie. Okay, now do it in Spanish for our Spanish. Um meats include uh or no, I already did the meats. They they've got a really wide variety of uh drinks as well. Obviously, they've got fountain, they've got bottles, coffees, they have a kids' menu. They have horchata. They have orchata. They've got um You show me your burrito. They've got a breakfast menu, which we didn't we didn't get there in time for that, but they they've got pre-selected combinations, and they even have sweets. So I know all three of us love sweets, donuts, funnel cake fries, and lemon sounds like an amazing compliment to their food.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we totally dropped the ball on desserts. I think we're just hungry right now, so just everything's gonna be a good thing.

SPEAKER_01

Everything sounds like when I was checking out, she was like she was like, is that gonna be it? And I was this close to saying funnel cake fries. I would have been mad if you ordered that. Like, and you're like and not told us.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm like, I'm gonna have some of those also. I want that. And then it's a top it off, guys. They're open Sunday to Thursday, uh, 7 to 11, and then 10 to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

SPEAKER_03

So good to know for my club.

SPEAKER_02

We were actually gonna do this earlier on in our episode count, um, but these scumbags got it without me. Actually, Zayn was scumbag number one. Let him blame Let him blame his family, and then Jordan was scumbag number two, so then one day I just needed something on the way home, and they're open late, so I ran over there and got a bowl.

SPEAKER_00

It was like, well, Zayn already did it. I can't feel bad about doing it now. Well, you should have.

SPEAKER_02

You should have. Shame on all of you. So today, everybody. Mukbang. Mukbang. We've got burritos that we're eating on the air. So make sure to make sure to eat close to your mics, boys. So they go.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're this is specifically for you, Kyle, because you were you're wanting us to get pop filters. So before we get our pop filters, we're gonna give you all the pop.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, all the noise. Try not to destroy my laptop. Oh, we're not gonna wait. Say just wait for it. Like, screw you guys.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just like going to Breed Obese without us the first time.

SPEAKER_01

That's pretty freaking good.

SPEAKER_02

That's fantastic.

SPEAKER_01

I got the side of steak. What'd you do with you?

SPEAKER_00

I also got well, I got I usually get steak, but this time I got the pastor. Or no. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

He's right. I got the pastor. I was basically like copying Jordan. Oh line menu item for menu item minus the beans. Obviously, most people in Hobbes have already had it. If you find yourself going through Hobbes and you're in the mood for Mexican, um, I did speak with the owner. He did tell me that their goal was to build to bring a Chipotle-like menu to Hobbes with an even more um Mexican flair to it. So it's really good. Everywhere, you know, every time I've been in there, the people are really nice. They have a drive-thru window. Parking's a little sparse, but when you have when you have a handicapped person with you like Zane, we work wherever you want, am I right?

SPEAKER_01

Priority parking. Priority parking.

SPEAKER_02

And I and I I just want to plug again how how funny it is when we go places with Zane and people are like uh super off-roadie Jeep parking and handicap parking, and he gets out on his one leg and that was like the greatest thing.

SPEAKER_01

So putting their mouth the looks that you get, and then like, oh, yeah, before before I even got the Jeep, like I had and before I had my prosthetic, you know, I I had nothing, you know, and so I'd park, I had my my big silver auto in a handicapped spot, and it's it always seems to be, it's not not maybe not every time, but majority of the time it always seems to be a mom pushing a stroller and she's just glaring like she had to park way out with her kids and her stroller, and she's like glaring over. Like, and then I get out and I'm standing there on one leg and she's like, Oh my god, uh trying to look away. Yeah. Happen look away, it's happened more than once. So yeah. The decor inside they they had a I think it's a local artist too that did the mural stuff inside.

SPEAKER_00

We're pointing out the artistry. Good good job. I mean, it's it's a pretty well played, probably pretty uh well built place, and it's I mean it's new, so it's obviously nice right now. But hopefully it doesn't turn into one of those things that like you always say, oh, Hobbes ruins that. I don't think this is gonna turn into that.

SPEAKER_02

It definitely seems like something that I mean they can add different uh flavors and seasonal items, but it's just some it's a it's a good go-to.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. They even have, I don't know if you saw, you can do like they have the build a bag. Yeah, the chip bags. So they have like the the special made like Fritos, Doritos, where they're like the it's a chip bag, but it's angle, you know, it's sideways, yeah. Built sideways for you to build a bag. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They change the setting to landscape.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. It's exactly what they did.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty much change. Yeah, but you like put the stuff at the everything you put in a burrito, you can put in there is just like nachos, basically, essentially. Genius.

SPEAKER_02

Chipotle, I hope you're listening because you missed out. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, I I'll I thought about getting one today, but we're like, oh no, we're all doing burritos, so it's like maybe next, maybe we'll do it again. Don't be the don't be the obvious.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we actually Nick talked to the owner of the gym, right? He said he said he'd be more than happy to come on the show sometime.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. So if you guys have any questions, or if you're local and you want us to come check out your restaurant and do a review, we promise we'll be we'll be nice. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. We'd love to we love food, we love drinks. We'll come check it out.

SPEAKER_00

We love catenated beverages, exactly. Gun store owners. That's right. Gear. Gear owners, gear store owners. I mean Albertsons? No. No.

SPEAKER_03

Juble if you're listening.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We can come check out your produce.

SPEAKER_03

But what do we got next, boys? Doing bivouac. Boots, battlestar galactica. Can't forget the beats. Oh, glad, yeah, beats.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, we're gonna do the bivouac.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna talk about some boots.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I thought it'd be nice if we showcased kind of like kind of like we talked in the previous episode, like stuff that we've tried, we've tested, we feel tested. Um we kind of want to do our our all-around hiking outdoor boot um that you can also wear just to the store, and it's still comfortable. Um I think I'll go first. Go for it, I'm gonna end it. Um mine is gonna be some Merrill. I think these are the Moabs.

SPEAKER_02

Dad boots.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't say I'm pretty sure these are Merrill Mo Moabs, mid-tops. Um, I got these um probably about 13 or 14 years ago. Golly. Um And I've had these ever since. Actually, Zayn, our first reindeer games actually the the year that we were a part of uh Atrox, it wasn't our first reindeer games, but it was probably our second one or third one. Um you remember us going in the ravines with Ivan? That's the year I got these. So, like when I first got these, you know, we were waist deep in water. Jordan, remember he's he who shall not be named. He who shall not be out of Voldemort. We're gonna talk about we could talk about Bruno. Um No, no, no, no. These things have been through ice, snow, mud, you name it, it's probably stepped in it. Um turds. Turds. Lots of cow poop from Zane's Jeep. You remember that? Flung it up on your arm, all up over me. Sorry, buddy. Um but yeah, I mean, these are these are kind of starting, you can kind of see right there, the soles are just barely kind of coming off.

SPEAKER_02

Um I was gonna say, how when was the last time you had any pair of shoes that lasted that long?

SPEAKER_00

I've these are especially ones that have been uh rigorously used. Other than these, some of these uh cowboy boots that I have, these are the only ones, but those are like a hundred percent leather. Right. I mean, those are made for that. Made to last a long time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, this is the only actual pair of lace up shoes that have lasted this long.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's same same laces? Same laces. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

It's crazy. Yeah, as much as I've put these things that's crazier than the soul not separately just now.

SPEAKER_01

It's you same laces. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's they've they've lasted so long. Um and also a little fun little tidbit about Merrill. My uh my biological dad, who lives in Utah, lives right up the road from Randy Merrill. Um actually I have a picture or actually have a video of me and Truett uh uh two summers ago um on his farm, and one of his yaks licks Truett's face. So like it's it's cool, like it's not only the shoe, but I've actually met the history. Yeah, and I've met the dude who made this shoe. Nice. That's awesome. He's a super nice guy, sweetest guy I've ever met. Um, super friendly, down to earth. He's like, oh yeah, my dad called him, was like, Um, hey, you mind if we swing by? He's like, Oh yeah, I'm just out feeding the yaks, come swing by. Just super down to earth. Coolest dude I've ever met.

SPEAKER_02

Sometimes people come see you when you're just feeding yaks.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um ever think in my life I'd ever see a yak. But in the let alone let one be that close to your kid. So my son to let his face. Uh Ferdinand the Yak licked true it in the face. Ferdinand the yak. Um, but yeah, Merrill boots. I plug them, I love them. I like I like everything, Merrill. Usually have a most of them have the Vibram soles.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, that's most hiking boots. Most hiking nowadays vibram making soles for them. The good ones.

SPEAKER_00

Well the good ones. That's true.

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, I even think I think Walmart brand stuff uses Vibram soles.

SPEAKER_00

Well, the cool thing about these, like I've never had to I've never had to put like any insoles in these either. I've always had good.

SPEAKER_02

I'm still blown away. Same soles, same laces, same insoles. It's crazy. I've got shoes that I haven't put through as much abuse as you have with those that don't last as long as that last maybe ten months.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But not not ten years, ten months. Yeah, exactly. So that's that's awesome.

SPEAKER_02

That's good and that's good to know for everybody else. Am I up? Yeah, you're up. I got the Oakley light assault boots. These particular ones I have in green and black. I've had the taller ones when I was in the army. Um soles lasted pretty long. They're pretty comfortable on the inside because sometimes when you're in the army, you got you have to wear those tall boots and they're they just start to get kind of uncomfortable or the or the soles just aren't right. I've never had to do anything to those. Obviously, they're not as old as Jordan's boots are because and I don't use them as often. But anytime I go to the range, anytime I go out hiking, or if we go out, you know, coyote hunting or something like that, I wear those. Yeah. It's they're not the tall ones, they're the mid-range ones, so they they give definitely give me the ankle support, um, but and not uncomfortable and and they're breathable.

SPEAKER_00

Does it dig into your shins like most of the high rise? Yeah, I hate that.

SPEAKER_02

And I and I've definitely become a fan of the mid-range boot because I've I've paid the price for not wearing ankle support in situations where you need ankle support. I've I've worn comfortable running shoes at the range and then paid the price for it. So I do like those. Like I said, I've had Oakley boots in the army, I've had Oakley boots as a police officer, but those mid-range ones are definitely my go-to for anything outdoorsy. So one Oakley plug.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, oak. I mean, I've had some Oakley boots in the past, and I really liked I had the the original SI assault. I had some had them in black. Um I really liked those. Do they make cleats? I don't think Oakley makes cleats, no.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. But I know they make like snowboarding boots, and I know they make like running shoes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But I couldn't remember if they made, and I figured you'd know. I know you're the Nike guy, but I figured you'd know.

SPEAKER_01

I got a lot of Oakley stuff too. I just don't buy as much of apparel from Oakley anymore.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I got a bunch of hats. But as far as the boots are concerned, and the backpack. That's right. I got sink. Yeah. But definitely, definitely worth worth the money.

SPEAKER_01

I think their stuff runs a little like it, their sizes run smaller.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Go up a size in a a size store or a half a size when you get them. Make sure that you're wearing the thick socks when you try them on. I don't know about how yours were, but whenever I go buy boots for anything, I always wear like thick socks that are on the thicker end. That way, if I do need to double up or do something like that, I know that I'm gonna have plenty of room because otherwise they're yeah, it's I mean, even they're these are my true size.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, these are that's a that's a good point. I'm gonna look as well while I'm doing that. Zane, what do you what do you have?

SPEAKER_01

So I've got the Solomon.

SPEAKER_02

These aren't true too.

SPEAKER_01

Um this is the XA Pro 3D V9 and the Gore-Tex edition. Because they make them you can get Gore-Tex and non-Gore-Tex. These particular ones are the Gore-Tex ones. Um, I actually have uh ordered the non-Gore-Tex version. So instead of it, obviously it's a bit more breathable and mesh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So and I wanted to do that because I got these as new range shoes. I've had Solomon footwear in the past. I've also had Keen. Um, I've had Merrill. I've I've do a lot of backpacking and hiking over the years, so I've had broad range. These are, you know, these are more of a I think these fall under their technically their trail running shoe, but they're because they're a low top, I think. But um dude, I I love these.

SPEAKER_00

Which you should get them half off now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I still need both though. It's socks. Socks, socks I get double the use.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, so that's true.

SPEAKER_01

You buy you buy uh six pairs of socks, I get 12 socks. Yeah. That's true. So lucky he's cheating the system.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think I should go do that.

SPEAKER_01

But never mind, I'm not gonna cheat. Yeah. The Solomon's sound. I typically wear a 13. These uh in the Solomon's though, I r uh these are a 12. So they're a little bit big? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They run big.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yes, sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's the smaller size is technically bigger, so yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So um, but again, I I these are the Gore-Tex ones, I have the mesh ones on order just for trying to save the tread on them, you know. I don't I mean they usually last me pr pretty long. Like I can get a like a couple years out of them.

SPEAKER_02

Is that the first time, Zayn, that you've had the the twist the twist knob tightening laces on them? Or I don't know what I don't know what the terminology is, but speed cross or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's like yeah, so it's it's uh I love that. It pulls and it cinches down.

SPEAKER_02

Does it does it last? I guess the reason I'm asking is does it last?

SPEAKER_01

Um in my experience, yes. So the twist ones you're thinking of are an aftermarket thing that you can usually get to relace.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. But but I think so those you just pull and then it tightens down.

SPEAKER_01

So you pull it, you pull it, and it's got the under armor did that.

SPEAKER_02

It's got the little Doc had those as police boots.

SPEAKER_01

Run that down and then and then you it's got the pull up on it so you tasten it. Um the Gore-Tex ones I usually all wear when it's like muddy or rainy or cold, because they keep my my body heat in. Um I'm a pretty warm-natured person, hence why I got the mesh ones for using in the summertime, but then it gives me again, it gives me options so I don't have not wearing the same one all the time, so I kind of switch between the two. But yeah, because they cut they come in a variety of colors. Like you can get them. I mean, obviously I've got the the desert look, but they've I mean you can get there's like a bright green and there's like orange, black. Yeah, they have a lot of variety.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, did you have Solomon ski stuff?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I have had I believe the ski boots I still have are Solomon. Um I've never I've never had Solomon skis, so I mean I've used them before. Like I've tried out Buddy's skis just to try them out. Um a lot of the times I would go my skis were dinostar. Um but yeah, but I mean ski brand makes say what? I don't know ski brands. Oh yeah. So but I mean Solomon makes all around. I mean they they've got all kinds of products for outdoors, they're kind of like North Face and LL Bean and stuff. Columbia, Columbia, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They've they've got uh stuff for all around, yeah. Yeah, and I like I like Solomon, they have a lot of different design choices, and that's what I liked about Solomon too. Um I think when I was picking those, I was either I was in between Solomon, the Keens, which those are another one. I don't know if any of y'all have had Keens before. That's a really good one.

SPEAKER_02

I haven't had them hiking boots.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think you had some Keens, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's and that's what I was saying. Keene's a brand that I like to use a lot. They're they're made in America.

SPEAKER_00

Um and Merrill, of course, is my my top go-to just because I I have a I have a connection to the brand if that I mean it's kind of like a bias almost. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You beat us as far as having them on the back.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know who I'm Solomon.

SPEAKER_01

Or I don't know that I don't know him personally. I've never met him.

SPEAKER_00

You never been to his house and let his yak lick your son? No, definitely not. So then you know officer Solomon.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm gonna say, yeah, that's true. I'll be like, dude, hook it up. No relation. Hurry up. Um I don't know a Mr.

SPEAKER_02

Oakley.

SPEAKER_01

My shoes are not that's one thing about it's weight. Weight is a big thing for me when it comes to footwear, and so those only weigh about each, I think each one weighs about 13 ounces. So I mean that's not bad. No, not at all. Plus, you only gotta worry really about one one foot. Well, no, because it makes the prosthetic heavy after a while.

SPEAKER_00

I guess that's true. But well I was gonna say also you see you touched on it just a little bit, but like the difference between having water resistant and waterproof is a big difference. Oh yeah. Because you waterproof hiking with that, not a good idea. See, and it's good that you it's good that you point that out. Unless you're like if you're wading through water, okay, yeah, sure. If you're gonna be dealing with a lot of moisture. But when you're just normal hiking, I would say no waterproof, but at least if it's water resistant.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm glad you said that because I'm sure a lot like I don't I don't know much um as much about uh the outdoor gear that you guys do, and I feel like some people might be misunderstanding and thinking I need something that's gonna repel water no matter what. And it's like unless you're literally, like you said, wading through water. Yeah, you have to overdo it. There is such a thing as overdoing it.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And it's like there's there's a brand, I can't remember who makes it, but like their whole their motto is like proudly not waterproof. And they're hiking boots um for that reason, because I mean when you're just doing normal hiking, that's you don't want to hold in sweat. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's that's what people don't think about that, but when you get Gore-Tex footwear, it's gonna keep your your body heat in. And so if you're you know in an arid climate and you're hiking, not necessarily the greatest. You don't need Gore-Tex to do it.

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna get the blisters.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, I mean just that.

SPEAKER_00

Your whole trips and your whole trip's done. Yeah, also, I mean, we were talking about boots, but also socks make the difference. Oh, so absolutely good pair of maraschino wool socks. I mean, they don't make cherries.

SPEAKER_02

Wait a minute, you're not talking about the copper socks that I see on commercial.

SPEAKER_01

The Tony Copper socks. Hey, Brett Favre swears by them.

unknown

Brett Favre.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I can see how that worked out for him in retirement.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but yeah, I think that's it. I think next we got reach out, let us know what's your kind of what's your favorite kind of footwear.

SPEAKER_01

That's true. Um, you know, if you're something you'd like us to try. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I've again said Zayn said he'd buy it for us, so then we could try it. He didn't say buy it for me at all.

SPEAKER_01

I said I would buy it for me. I would try it out. It's you're only gonna get the right side review.

SPEAKER_00

But now you're just putting your foot in your mouth. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I can do that. Which one? Which one? Yeah, but don't take it out. All right. guys and we're next we're gonna be moving on to Under the Hood Under the Hood today we're doing our dream rig build under the hood the hood tha hood the hood it's pronounced a thaw under today's today's installment is on our dream rig build so how we would want to if we're not already doing it and since I said already let's start off with Z Dog because I know that you're already in the process I mean I I've got a 2020 Jeep Gladiator it's in the overland trim level I have done stuff slowly over the years it's it was already on when I got it it was already on the factory um Fox Rubicon two inch lift suspension lift um I'm actually gonna be changing that I'm going with uh JKS Manufacturing I'm going with their J Venture series lift and I'm still gonna run Fox shocks on it um I've always been a Fox shocks guy when my Silverados whenever the shocks were time to replace then I went went Fox on them. It's just to me it's they're they're one of the smoothest um out there. And don't get me wrong there's other there's other good suspension systems too like Bill Steen makes good shocks and struts and then so does uh I think it's King I think it's what it's called um I've said there's a lot of people that run King and Falcon. So those are all those are all good as well. I've just I've always personally been a Fox guy. Does John have Fox? John uh you know I don't know I don't I don't know I don't think he went with the fox route just because you can save on price when you do the JKS because you get to choose which ones you want. Oh okay um they have some they have some other options other than Fox.

SPEAKER_03

AC Delco?

SPEAKER_01

You can even Yeah I don't I don't think so but they even have like a brand right there you uh um there's even like different tiers like I just went with the 2.0s but there's the 2.5s and then the race series that you could even do. Yeah but I think with the race series it runs like eight grand for you're not you're not running a trophy truck you're just trying to get some that's kind of that's my thing is I'm I'm more doing overland with it. I do like to go trail uh trail riding um I'm I'm running on 37s I have black rhino beadlocks they're actual beadlocks oh yeah they are you have to say that yeah they're not the they're not the faux ones I think you used a left to get those on didn't you yeah my dad's lift me and Jordan we used my dad's tire shop to put them on we sure did yeah it's not fun no it's they look sick but time consuming because every bolt yeah you gotta torque it's very tight and you have to like zigzag it you know it's got the bolt pattern for it so it's fun um run I run a worn winch I actually need to order a replacement part for that and I don't even know if they make that model winch anymore I think everything's gone to the the Xeon series for worn so I don't even know if I can get the part that I need to replace it I might just have to replace the whole winch um and then inside I've got I run a C I have a Scott a C B a ham PA system I've installed all that myself I have my back seat on the driver's side I've got I run a twin ARB compressor um I've got a little half rack by uh FabTe FabTech their little half rack I've got a couple of ammo cans bolted to it that actually I actually got that set up from my buddy John he kind he upgraded and then I went to that but I'm actually gonna shortly be doing the same thing going to kind of switch mine. Yeah you got more stuff coming down the pipe yeah like I said I got the lift kit coming I'm I'm gonna be doing I've got my what I'm most excited about is I finally got my back bumper. So yeah yeah um JCR off road I've gotten stuff from them before um they're a great company like they they called me just the other day like just checking in like hey we saw you ordered this you know tell us about your bill like just wanting to know about it and I mean part of it's trying to push product as well because they're like you know is there anything else because right now we got sales going on kind of thing but just you know letting us know letting us know that hey we saw you ordered this just yeah that they're double checking and you know sometimes I feel like that's a good time for them to say okay just confirming this is the kind of vehicle you have so that you're not ordering the wrong stuff. Well and it's funny because had I had I not have realized that I ordered everything I needed for the so I ordered the back bumper I ordered this one of the swing arm swing arms for it because you can get two so it'll actually carry put it do a tire carrier so I can mount my spare on the back like like what a Wrangler what you see on a Wrangler. But I ordered the bumper the swing arm and then the license plate and backup camera relocation kit and I purchased it and then I realized I was like I didn't even order the the piece that you gotta that to actually mount the tire because there's other options. You don't have to mount the tire onto it. And so I thought I had it in the cart already I didn't so I went ahead and ordered that separate they they brought they brought that up they said we saw you you didn't have it in the order and so we were that's another thing we were wanted to confirm is that you see if you wanted to add that in and then we saw that you had placed a second order after you know to get it and actually it's actually behind me. It's sitting over there.

SPEAKER_02

And how many places how many places did you order from before Zayn that double check like that?

SPEAKER_01

I I I can't think of one. I mean you could have just fixed it with some zip ties I mean being honest.

SPEAKER_00

Can we pack a palm all or some zip ties?

SPEAKER_02

Could have fixed it by ordering all the right stuff the first yeah yeah or read the directions.

SPEAKER_01

Or read the directions to see that there's additional bolts. But like what I like about like I mean because you said stuff coming down the pipe is you want to put that that roof rack or the the overlanding racking rack on the back and then so I'm wanting to do the soft topper they the their canvas bed cover and then I was looking at doing I was good think uh JCR makes a rack that's built to go over the top of it but I wanted more static weight and so I was like it was kind of on the low end for for me with me the tint that I'm gonna be putting on there and so Softtopper actually makes their own rack that goes up over up and over the yeah and they're the static weight on it's like a thousand pounds which is awesome.

SPEAKER_02

I was saying now you can put anything in everything and not have to sit there and be counting counting calories literally counting pounds at a time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah so I mean I'm ex I'm excited for it that I've got a still down the road I'll have to order some control arms because I'm gonna swap those out to make them uh a little beefier I'm gonna get those from core four by four my buddy John swears by them he's had he's used their control arms and steering components on tell me John isn't the best person to to ask about stuff like that because he's literally tried it all and done it with his Jeep. He's usually our Jeep the Jeep the lead jeep so that we know what not to do. I don't know if you know Nick but this is this is his third Jeep. I didn't know it was a start I thought it was a second. He's had two jeeps prior um yeah I think he had a I don't know I'm not even gonna go into that because I I think he had a CJ and then I think he went to a a TJ I don't think he ever had any the YJ, the square headlights but but yeah so I mean that's that's a little bit about mine. I pulled a trailer so that's one of the reasons I'm gonna be doing the regearing and for overlanding and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

Well that's another thing I was going to point on like that I mean that trailer you have is awesome. Yeah kind of like it's like an extension of it too. Oh yeah. I mean I haven't I haven't I mean I haven't slept on the inside where you have the actual bed but that tent on top when we've done camping is comfortable. Yeah it's like I get the I've had the best night's sleep usually on that and like it has the kitchenette and all that stuff too like we've cooked on it and stuff. I mean it's it's a nice addition. But yeah I think I think the rig you got is pretty sick.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah it's cool that it's cool that your dream build is something you already have yeah yeah that you're in the in the process of continuing to put together and that's the cool that's the cool thing about is stuff keeps coming out we keep bouncing ideas off of each other and then and then we test it out. Whether it ever ends up on the podcast or not we always and it's try the stuff out and we literally go out in the field and and use it.

SPEAKER_01

Funny even my wife was like she's like hey you should get some of those half doors like she wants me to get and I've I'd thought about getting some just as a instead of just having when I take the doors off having no doors but they have like a side by side or whatever. Yeah especially with a little my wife was like like oh you should you should get some of those and so I was kind of shocked that she was but she she likes it. She done she well okay she doesn't like that it's smaller in there but other than that she likes when I take her out and stuff in it she loves you know going going trail riding and stuff and she actually loves she likes camping so she enjoys that aspect of it as well.

SPEAKER_02

Just remember guys when you get bigger tires re-gear regear regear.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah I just I was spent I went down the down the rabbit hole um on that the other night trying to because I mean the main reason bigger tires is a reason to re-gear um if you're gonna be pulling a load because like my stock only has three seven threes um that has to do with the ratio of you know revolutions of the the gear inside to the revolution or to the revolutions of the motor. It's a whole thing um but essentially I'm what I'm gonna be doing is going from the 373 to a 513 gear ratio that way it makes it it gives me more torque so I can make it easier to pull the the trailer on thir while I'm running on 37s. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just know that Azure friends were all happy that you're doing that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah yes. Well it's crazy like you say like you know you saying oh Ricky like I would I wouldn't have known that but I didn't know that like me growing up like anytime we needed like work done on our vehicles or stuff like that and we always you know paid to get it we took it somewhere and paid someone to do it. So we never really learned which is it's nice in its own sense. I've never had to worry about stuff you know growing up because I'm very blessed.

SPEAKER_02

I'm very blessed to have a the life that I had growing up but at the same time it's like I wish I had the school of hard knocks like you break it you fix it you know right now and I and that's something I've been fortunate enough with you guys hanging out with you guys and some of my friends back home is like learning how to do that stuff. Like if it's if it's simple enough to do it there's usually a YouTube video or forum or two something that'll walk you through it. So that's I agree with you. It's like now having my own adult money like I have to learn how to do this now. Right it's like I wish I would have learned that you know 20 years ago and the camaraderie and everything that comes along with doing that. I had a gladiator first I let Zayn talk me into it. That was she was a butte. It was um but I don't have it anymore yeah exactly I had a Zane was I know I had a smitty smitty built win a winch what was the bumper that was a bumper smitty built that was the front view smitty built? Yeah I actually drove it was both then I was driving to Artesia and saw it in Movington but uh now I've got a a dark gray 2024 taco um I did make a joke on the last episode about running a dish gone there that that'll never happen. Why not I have the TRD off-road version so it's one step under the the I almost said Rubicon geez anything's um it's one under the TRD Pro which I know the TRD Pro has Fox suspension and like those those like pistons driver and passengers front passenger seats they're they're weird I've got the next step down so I've I still have the big screen I've got um but I've got Bilstein suspension instead of Fox. I don't know if you knew that Zane I actually found that out the other day um it's a Turbo 4 it's it's got actually it is four-wheel drive and it does have rear lockers which is nice that's it's literally the exact same setup as my as my gladiator Mojave was um and it's it's got three auxiliary buttons to the left of the steering wheel so I could plug in lights just like I did on my on my Mojave and be able to run lights on it. And then I've got um because I actually ran Zayn and I installed those those aftermarket lights to the to the aftermarket bumper connected to those auxiliary buttons. So it's nice it's just nice not to have to drill any more holes. Zayn's done it it's perfectly fine I just I like clean cut everything so it's cool that those buttons are already there. But I also have every intention of building an overlanding I've already got some stuff in my cart. I don't remember the exact brands but I'd I'd like I want to do an overlanding rack. It's finding you know making sure that you measure and figure out how tall the rack needs to be so that if you're if you buy a bigger tent the tent can go over the over the the cab of the of the truck that I'm kind of doing all the logistical stuff before I pull the trigger. But it's cool because mine actually has USB wall charger and USB C ports all in the bed. Oh nice oh nice so I can I can run stuff right out of there and and then you know it's got like a 6400 pound towing capacity I believe. But in I've got traction boards already from when I had my Jeep I'm I want to get cans but it's essentially what I want to build is a nice clean setup just like that. Something that I can drive and run errands in and not lose a whole bunch of gas mileage but also be able to just jump in it with my son or the whole family together and be able to go camping especially with these guys. So so yeah that's that's my setup. I love my Tacoma I've always wanted Tacoma if I'm being a hundred percent honest I kind of let Zane sway me into getting a gladiator and I absolutely loved the crap out of it. You can't be taking off that the top and the doors and you know going going off roading it was a blast it was a blast but I can safely say that I'm I'm really happy with my current setup so stay tuned to see what happens next to the old taco the old taco excited to see where it goes.

SPEAKER_00

What you got for us Jordan well as the group's you know number one car guy which I always talk about you know sports and cars are my thing right yay sports yay sports every time I'm having a good time I really am um so this one was kind of a tough one for me because I'm just I'm really basic when it comes to I guess like off roading and overlanding and stuff like that. I'm so basic. I'm so basic you're just so so explore sport track you know what I mean explore sport track um which is what I'm having right now but uh so like for me like being having it being having to having to do like the modular stuff to it yeah is is cool but I d like me personally I don't really have a purpose for it if that makes sense. Like there's obviously a purpose for it but to me it's just kind of one of those things I don't I don't pursue. I'm not really big into so I think for like me making a choice like I I do like jeeps um as far as like the capabilities and stuff like that. However for me I mean you could don't know if you could tell on the cameras but I'm a I'm a bigger guy and you know my shoulders I have broad shoulders and the jeeps are small. I mean the vehicle I drive right now is small um feels almost about the same size it's not as much fun. It's not as much fun you know uh when you're rolling in the when we get to roll around in the vehicle you know bumping shoulders.

SPEAKER_01

I mean you could take the doors off could take the I could I could take the doors off the taco if I really want to take the doors off anything if you wanted to um I got a fun story about that remind me I'll tell that at the end but uh not if you two are rolling down a hill.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah yeah I don't want to roll down a hill again with you Zane we did that once still got the t-shirt actually 10 out of 10 would not recommend literally still have the t-shirt um quit being around the bush Jordan so like I was thinking more along the lines of something bigger so I was honestly my first thought was the Ford Broncos the newer ones um just because I like I mean it's it's got everything I need you know as far as like the media and entertainment and stuff like that and then the size they're they're I think it's two inches on each side that's wider. Yeah something like that. Yeah they're I know they're wider than the there just more room inside four door two door it's a uh I'll do the four door four door um the doors come off just like you know they're trying to make it like jeep um copycats well I mean it's you kind of have to in the game now like if someone's doing something really good like why not copycats well and especially because Jeep held it was basically the only ones doing it so it's cool and I I just want to say one thing I did notice I like that Bronco has mirrors onto the to the frame to the frame to the body of the body not the belly so that so that when you take the doors off you still have mirrors.

SPEAKER_02

Now I I like the aftermarket ones that Zayn had and I had some too but it's cool that that you have that option of having those on there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and so I was I was that was my first initial thought was a Bronco but I think like now like you talking about like the Toyota stuff like I think I would be more suited in like a Sequoia. Yeah um just because it's like you know it's that it's it's like the four inch bigger obviously yeah and people have built some really cool rigs.

SPEAKER_01

It's bigger but the but the nice thing is it's still not it's I don't even think it's it's I think it's considered a full size SUV but it is definitely on the smaller end of the full size SUVs.

SPEAKER_02

But I mean as far as having a tundra it's considerable it's like sitting on a couch compared to to my Tacoma yeah oh yeah and so that's and like I I really like Toyota stuff.

SPEAKER_00

So I think if if someone gave me the option like my dream rig and they gave me like okay here's your two vehicles you can pick from I would have a hard time between the Bronco and the Sequoia but I think ultimately I would land up on this on the Sequoia.

SPEAKER_02

One thing I do want to say I watched a video at John's and it was about it was a group a group that he watches on YouTube that go off roading. They were in a Bronco is the only bad thing I've seen because I also liked them you know even you got to be careful around jeep guys but I sound holding this breath like I'd be lying if I said that the the Raptor Bronco doesn't look awesome. There's one here in Hobbs bro I saw yeah for like eighty or ninety thousand dollars some bananas but still you can get a 392 Wrangler for that. But but no I I just wanted to say the one the one thing I noticed and I don't know if they fixed it so if they have or if somebody with a bronco knows better please put it in the comments is that they were off roading in I don't even know if it was Canada or Alaska and they would wake up in the morning and this it was like the steering like the power steering line would freeze on the Bronco and so the guy wouldn't have power steering until they put a heater on there under there to warm it up. I don't know if that was a a fluke situation but it happened multiple times on this trip that John was watching on YouTube. I don't know if it's something that they fixed or that people messaged you know because there's forums and there's all these great tools for people to communicate that with so if they've changed it good that's the only bad thing that I've seen that that was a problem for people that were and I think like and like kind of like I said about you know not being modular not having the modularity of I don't care about the modularity of stuff as much because for me like I know if I put it on there it's gonna break because I'm I'm there's a lot of things the crap out of it.

SPEAKER_00

There's a lot of things that I'm bad at but the one thing that I'm being professional at is being an idiot. And so yeah it's it's gonna break if if I put it on something's coming off. Well if it's it's like a vehicle that I'm I'm my life's depending on it like I could kill somebody kill myself.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But I I will say and Zayn you can attest to this too the one thing that makes me sad I you can I mean you can always drill holes and cut things and one thing I liked about my gladiator is that a lot of accessories are bolt on. Yeah you take out existing screws you install the part and you put those screws like I had the Zayn had pointed me in the direction of a dash set up with RAM mount. Right with by RAM mount that you could put your phone and your and your CB um or or ham radio face on there it didn't even come with screws it literally used the factory screws that are on there. That's nice there are certain things that taught that the the the Toyota products have it's just not as snap on and clean like I remember our friend John has a has a snorkel I the snorkel that I wanted in particular for my uh Mojave they made it for every trim level except the Mojave because the hood was taller. Yep the hood was the but you removed that cornered angled panel right by the right the passenger beside windshield and the entire snorkel is under the hood with the exception of the snorkel part. I just I really like that everything's bolt on again I'm a clean cut person and it just to me it looks so nice and so streamlined when you use all the ex of all the existing bolts I mean you could kind of relate it to like the gun topic of they've like Jeeps had a while for this to like marinate to marinate and they've had a while to have parts for it.

SPEAKER_00

Kind of like a 1911 or a Glock like everybody makes parts for it well that's because it's been around for forever. That makes sense that so many people have it.

SPEAKER_01

Jee's like the one thing that I've always said is like everybody and their brother makes parts for it and that's why I always refer to like Glock and stuff as Jeep guns. That's why I call them jeep guns because everybody they're good they've got to that point where everybody and their brother makes parts for it.

SPEAKER_00

Literally you know we can go to any gun store today in Hobbs and they have Glock parts.

SPEAKER_02

Do you remember Zayn when I had my Mojave and I was trying to find the right mirrors and I bought I found some forum online that had me buy those like scooter mirrors from an auto parts store.

SPEAKER_01

I still have them you gave them to me and they screw I still use them. They screw right in yeah scooter mirrors. You take out you take out one of one a bolt on each side of the cowling pieces and they screw right in. Like the threads are the same so what are the odds?

SPEAKER_02

But that's the cool thing about forums everybody people figure things out and then they put on the forums and then we all get to reap the benefits.

SPEAKER_01

Well that's the other thing is like especially Jordan you know me I I've done almost everything to my Jeep myself and I and I continue still will like when I my lift comes in I'm gonna have John John's gonna I'm gonna see if he can come to hospital now you know.

SPEAKER_02

No

SPEAKER_01

We talked about it, you know. Of course, it's been a while since we talked about it, but it's not an invitation, it's in order. But he said that he he would come help. It'd be his third one that he's done of that style of because I think he did he did his. It was JKS and then two other buddies he helped do, and so we'll do them. But I've done I try to do everything in my I myself, you know, and so I I know that it's done and I can make sure that I do it right.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and if something goes wrong, you can troubleshoot it because you know exactly from square from A to Z.

SPEAKER_01

That was one thing with like in the past, like I bought a I bought a 2500 Duramax that I had, and I love that truck, but there was a lot of stuff that was done to it by the previous owner because it had it at one owner before me, and trying to figure out what they did and how they did it, that was always a pain. And so that's been the nice thing is like, yes, my Jeep already had the front bumper that it's got and the winch on it already, but everything else has been me. You know, and so me knowing where I routed stuff like this.

SPEAKER_02

Like yes, absolutely. I mean, imagine if it was some dollar store winch on there.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and the yeah, the worn winch, and then the the smitty I have a smitty build bumper. My SMITI build is actually the first version of the bumper you had on your Gladiator. You had the updated version basically.

SPEAKER_00

And so Well, it goes into the conversation like we had earlier about like, you know, paying someone to do something versus doing it yourself. Yeah. Like you get that with really anything. Like, yeah, you can pay to get a brand new gun, but if you build a gun yourself, you know every part that's in there.

SPEAKER_02

You know what sucks that when you get rid of it, it it's 10 times more painful. Yeah, that's getting rid of my Mojave was painful, getting rid of my GR was painful because you did all that stuff, you customize it. People saw it and knew it was yours because it was so customized. You poured your sweat into it. Yeah, and literally we literally did that. I mean, the three of us put some of that, some of those parts on, or you guys watched while I suffered through it, but but yeah, it just it's it makes it fun because uh let like let me just put this out there, this disclaimer. You will never, very rarely will you ever get back what you put into it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

Forget about labor, even the price of parts, you usually won't get back what you paid for it. But but going off-roading and knowing that all those parts you did it, or when someone gives you a compliment and they love your rig and you did that, from your hands, yeah, it's it adds, I don't know, to me it adds a little something to it. Oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

With guns, with with even like home improvement stuff, like you know, you're you're fixing a hole in the wall, like, oh yeah, I know how to do that. Like it and or if let's say like your you know your sink breaks, you know, um you fix it, you replace it, you know everything that went into that. Like you it's just that pro that that like way of like lifestyle of life and that mindset is is so so much better than just like oh just buy a new one, you know. Have someone replace it. I agree. And that's kind of where I was going with that. You know, so um yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Jordan, we just need to get you to get a rig.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so we can go camping, bro. Pay for it. Well, you got a job, you pay taxes, you can get your own car. I do owe taxes this year. Thanks, IRS.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. IRS plug. Thanks a lot, Bin Laden.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks a lot, Bin Laden. Yeah, I think well now, what's in our cup? What is in our cup?

SPEAKER_02

What's in our cup? Zayn, what coffee we all have coffee. What what coffee is that? I don't even remember.

SPEAKER_01

What we got everybody today is we're gonna be.

SPEAKER_02

It was three segments ago.

SPEAKER_01

We've got the black rifle coffee. Um, the particular brand, or the particular Java. The brand is black rifle. What'd you call it? The make the the model, the make is black rifle. Flavor profile. The model, yeah. The flavor profile. We went with fur missile today. I like the fur missile one. Fur misle. Jordan, what's it got in it? Yeah, for my fur mislead.

SPEAKER_02

Does it have real Malino hair in it?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Uh Malinois pea. Um little hint of that. I'm just playing. Um, it's got uh cinnamon. Uh my text detecting a hint of cinnamon? Brown sugar, nutmeg, and something else. Guava. Guava. That's what it was. Guava.

SPEAKER_02

Not not to be confused with guano, which we know to be bat poop. I heard that name Jim Carrey plug.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's what's in our cup, and we appreciate you guys watching. Again, Star Wars Cup. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Put us in the comments.
