This week was supposed to be all about Deviant King, Steel Princess, and Twisted Kingdom by Rina Kent… but yeah, that didn’t exactly happen.

After realizing we had some thoughts (and maybe a few concerns), we pivoted hard and picked up Lights Out by Navessa Allen instead. Did we stay on topic? Absolutely not.

What started as a backup plan quickly spiraled into pure chaos—featuring unhinged tangents, questionable takes, and us talking about literally everything except the book we chose.

So if you’re here for a structured literary discussion… this isn’t that. But if you’re here for vibes, laughs, and two besties losing the plot entirely? You’re in the right place.

Come scream about it with us on Instagram: @spillthespinepod

New episodes drop every other week.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, welcome back to another edition of Spill the Spine Pod. I am Morgan. And I am Brie. And we're back with another episode. This is my episode four. I think so.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, that's exciting.

SPEAKER_02

Is however we are taking a break from the reuniverse.

SPEAKER_01

We are. Morgan lied last episode.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't lie. Don't call me a liar. But we had some realizations. Yeah, we had some realizations. I think. Can we get into the theory that I saw on Twitter this week? Yes. And don't shame me for using Twitter. I haven't switched to threads. It's not my I love threads. I'm on threads. I need to get on threads. I have one. I just don't use it.

SPEAKER_01

My threads is strictly heated rivalry. Love it. Yes. Um I love that you call it Twitter and not ex.

SPEAKER_02

I refuse to call it ex. It's Twitter.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

It's Twitter. Um, somebody had a theory that Rena Kent I hate saying this on the podcast. Rena Kent might be a gentleman.

SPEAKER_01

A gentleman. Didn't you also see one where she could possibly be multiple writers?

SPEAKER_02

Yes. There's I've never known this in I read these books in 2023. I've never known this like to be a theory. I've never I've never seen anybody ever really talk about her either. Um, but somebody was like, I I bet it's a group of writers, and I'm like, you know, it could be. It could be. I don't know. I haven't really like sat down and like done much digging myself, but it's food for thought, really.

SPEAKER_01

It is, uh, to be fair, I went and looked on her Instagram after we had this conversation.

SPEAKER_02

She doesn't, so she I did look into why she doesn't have any pictures because I was like, I've never seen a picture of Rena Ken. Most of my authors, I know what they look like. I, you know, they do book tours and things. And not to say that, you know, you should, like, you don't have to do a book tour if you don't want to. You don't have to meet the general public if you don't want to. Right. Um, but she keeps her private life and her author life separate. Right. Which is great. You know, privacy is important, especially when you're writing especially if you're a man. Right, right. You know, just say she's done she's done interviews. I haven't listened to them. But I don't know. I saw that theory and I was like, huh? What do you mean?

SPEAKER_01

But that would also go with like her virginity little trope that she's got.

SPEAKER_02

I've heard some really interesting things about her latest. I've seen some some reviews that aren't so kind. So I'm a little bit. I haven't started it yet.

SPEAKER_01

I haven't, it's in my library to read. I do want to read it, but there's so much shit to read. We really over the next two weeks, three weeks before your trip, yes, we have a lot to read. That we do have a lot to read. Um and these fanfictions came back up back on the heated rivalry fanfiction chunks. Chapter 20. I've been reading this same fanfic for like three days. Is it good?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's not bad.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's okay. It's not bad. But as somebody who grew up in the era of like One Direction fan fictions on Tumblr, like you get lost in the yes, you get lost in the this isn't that good, but I'm I'm committed with it. I'm committed to it. The your name fan fictions. I found you'll love this. I didn't tell you this the other day. So I I'm back on the Juicy Couture kit because it's coming back around. Every every good thing from childhood is coming back around. And I went looking for my second purse and I couldn't find it in my closet. But you know what I did find? What? I found my One Direction tour t-shirt from 2014 and my original Speak Now tour t-shirt from Taylor Swift's like one of her first big tours.

SPEAKER_01

It's okay. Do you know what I still have? I still have all of my original Fallout Boy merch from like under the oak tree. Like I have all of them all downstairs.

SPEAKER_02

I have like so many like concert t-shirts. I think my aunt brought up a great point the other day. She's like, why don't you get them made into like a quilt or something? And I'm like, you know, I think I want to. I think it'd be really cool to like have a quilt made of all like the merch. And granted, I'd see how many times I went to certain shows, and that would just be shameful.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I went to Fallout Boy every year or every concert. Probably for like 10 years.

SPEAKER_02

I go to Halsey every time she's here. I go seeing Five Seconds of Summer for like the eighth time this year. The band Camino's opening for them, so this will be time number 10 that I've seen them.

SPEAKER_01

I saw a lot of Slipknot 2. I didn't think I missed.

SPEAKER_02

Nothing wrong with that.

SPEAKER_01

I haven't I don't think I missed many of their shows either.

SPEAKER_02

You just got those artists that you're like, if you're in town, I'm coming. Yeah, pretty much. That's gonna be Hudson Westbrook for us now. Hudson you ever hear this, we love you.

SPEAKER_00

Come be on our pod. Tell us your favorite book. That would be hysterical.

SPEAKER_01

I would love that. I would love that so much. Can we slide into his DMs?

SPEAKER_00

Hey!

SPEAKER_02

You know you're really busy, Huntson.

SPEAKER_01

I know you're really busy, but like, like, hey, what's your favorite book?

SPEAKER_02

You want to talk about it? I know, I think that would be so cool. You know what's interesting? Um, I'm starting to get a lot of arcs from NetGalley Advanced Reading copies from NetGalley. Um, that's something that we're trying to do a lot of now with the pod and leaving reviews everywhere. And the one that I left review, a review on this week that I'll tell you about in just a second, because we kind of threw around the idea of sometimes we don't read the same books and kind of talking about them on the pod would be cool, like just throwing in like an extra hey if you want this. This is what I read. This is what I read this week. Um, there is a button on there when you leave a review for the publisher that you can select and it do you want to interview, like yeah. So I thought that was really cool.

SPEAKER_01

So that's something we should definitely look into. I think we should also listen to look into the and the authors in our area. We've met we met a bunch of them.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to TBR Bookbus. TBR Book Bus? Yes. Um, they are so awesome. Yes. Two blonde reader. Hold on. You're gonna you're gonna you're gonna have to look them up. It's definitely two blondes. But I don't remember their full username. They had an amazing one-year anniversary party.

SPEAKER_01

Two blonde readers, book bus, yes.

SPEAKER_02

They are absolutely amazing. Their bus is adorable. We were like, can we take your bus? Can we have your bus? It's so cool. They do all kinds of events here and they do I guess we should we say here, we should let them know we're in Atlanta.

SPEAKER_01

We're in Atlanta.

SPEAKER_02

We live in Atlanta. Here is if you know where we are. Yeah, just you know, spitballing that you know where we are. We have some use some listeners who are from other we did, we got India. Canada, Canada, Sweden. That was interesting. Shout out to Sweden, shout out to India, shout out to Canada. Thanks for listening. We appreciate you guys so much. Um, leave a comment next time. Tell us, tell us where you're listening from. We think it's so cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I would love that.

SPEAKER_02

But they do all kinds of events around Atlanta, and we went to their one-year anniversary party and met so many indie authors that we didn't really know existed. And so we're gonna try and review some of their books for the pod, maybe get them on, have them come talk to us. I think that's so cool. And a good way to like really invite other people to get to know them and read their work. There was some really cool, I took tons of pictures of like authors' tables and books and things like that. So there's definitely opportunities to get some more reads that we haven't had before. Yes, I think it'll be fun.

SPEAKER_01

I'm excited. We'll have to miss the next one in April.

SPEAKER_02

We will, because I will be out of the country. I will be on a boat. Living your best life. I'll be here at work all by myself. I know, I feel so bad. You know, I just thought about that on the way here to record that I will be coming back right as our Cinco de Mayo party is going down at work. It'll be okay. It'll be fine. I'll be there. I'll just have to, as co-chair of the party committee, I will have to work overtime to make sure that this is successful. It is, it is. But speaking of NetGalley and the book I read this week, so the arc I got was called Midnight Haze. Midnight Haze. Okay. And I'm like, let me pull it up on my candle here. You know, I am bumped. Speaking of NetGalley, I got denied for a Taylor Swift asking. I was so upset. I was like, you're kidding. You're kidding me. Also, Lynn Painter's the publisher didn't approve me, and I'm sad.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I signed up for one through Goodreads. I'd never heard anything about it. Really? I forgot all about it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I'm glad I reminded you. So this was Midnight Haze.

SPEAKER_01

When does this come out? Are we even allowed to talk about it?

SPEAKER_02

I feel like I can't like spoil anything. I think it's like a general, so it's by Tate West.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

So Tate wrote Midnight Haze. It comes out officially on April 24th. Okay. It is already on Kindle Unlimited, uh, it shows that it's already gonna be for Kindle Unlimited on April 24th. So if it sounds like your kind of vibe, go ahead and get ready to put it in your Kindle on April 24th. It was a really cute read. It gives very much, so as I just said, I got denied for the other Taylor Swift S book I wanted to read. I was very upset. Um, however, this one gave Taylor Travis vibes in like the best way. It was very cute. Sometimes you need that really cute, yes, good swoony romance palette cleanser. A few of the tropes, it's fake dating, which I love.

SPEAKER_01

We do like that one.

SPEAKER_02

It's not like enemy, it's not enemies to lovers at all. It's very much like friends to lovers. Like he falls first, she falls harder kind of thing. Yeah. Those kind of tropes. I loved it. I think Tate is great. You fall in love with the side characters as well. They've got a book coming too.

SPEAKER_01

I'm good.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, which I was very excited about. I was like, I need a I need a book like throughout this whole book. I'm going, okay, but do I get them too? Can I have them too? Yes. I love those books where you're reading it and you're like, I really want that one. I want this one. Where's this one gonna be at?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So I'm very excited for that. But she did a really great job. I loved the world building she kind of had. It's very, it's pop star, football, player, fake dating. I mean, it's great. I I don't want to spoil anything because I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

It's probably illegal.

SPEAKER_02

Is it? I don't know. Am I gonna go to jail? It's probably frowned upon. It's probably frowned upon. So we'll stop we'll stop it here and I'll just tell you the tropes are great, books great. It's a really cute if you need like a cute little palette cleanser in between all your dark romance, whatever you're reading at the time. It's super great. I loved it. Um four-star read. It was great. Four star. Four stars, four star. I feel like I feel like the ending was a little rush for me. That's why I didn't get my fifth star, but still a really great read. I loved it. I'm excited to see the next one. And I'm excited to get into some of the other arcs I at least did get approved for.

SPEAKER_01

I need you to look. I haven't done any of that.

SPEAKER_02

There's one that I'm super excited about. That's it's like set in the 1920s. It's very interesting. I'll have to send it to you, and maybe that's one we can do together. It might it sounds like it might be an interesting, an interesting vibe for sure.

unknown

An interesting vibe.

SPEAKER_02

An interesting vibe. It's got a little magic. Ooh. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's that's what I read. I finished it last night actually and posted my review immediately. But I did see just now when I pulled up the email that I can send an email to the publisher to be like, hey, we want an interview or yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

That would be so cool. Fuck these people up for everybody else who denied me. Do you see what you're missing? You too. Do you see what you're missing? You too could be.

SPEAKER_02

Lynn Payner, please. Let me review your books. I love you so much. We are meeting her next month. Yes, we are excited about that. Is that the one in Canton? Yes. She's coming to Books a Million, I believe. Yeah. For First and Forever. First and Forever. First and Forever, which I also believe is a fake dating. She's got one in September, too, that if she goes on tour for that one, I think we should go. This one is she Lynn Painter is one of my, like every time she's like, I'm putting out a new book, I'm like, yes. Come on! So quick too. Damn. So she's quick turnaround, but can I tell you? Because sometimes, you know, when you look at authors and you're like, that's a really quick turnaround. Yeah. Every book is so good.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I know you have because you haven't read better than the movies. I think we should. Wait, is that the one I bought one? We we each bought collector's editions. Now I've read them all. You are in the process because I have not picked that book out. That's okay. I bought it and it's sitting in my room. Maybe maybe we can do that for May, like before we go. That can be an episode for May.

SPEAKER_01

Hold on. Let me pull up. I have I've got it all on my calendar. We're putting it on on my calendar. No, putting it on the calendar. When the fuck we need to record that shit.

SPEAKER_02

We're putting it all on the calendar.

SPEAKER_01

Wait, we're seeing her May 15th, I believe.

SPEAKER_02

On a Friday. On a Friday. Ooh. Oh. Is that off campus week?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. May 13th, I think it is. Yep, we are working for Oh, wait. Well, we can work from We can work from home. I'll just bring my laptop home that Thursday. Any the 13th, we have an episode to release that day. So we can do that book.

SPEAKER_02

We could do that book. We might do a live reaction that week.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure it'll probably, I'm sure we'll probably still have a live reaction. Maybe a potential hate watch of Before anybody comes for me on the internet.

SPEAKER_02

Um you gotta understand that these books mean a lot to me. I can recite these stories in my sleep. They are my fictional children and I will take no criticism on them. Um Amazon Prime seems to be doing me wrong here. And now they have also obtained my other series, the Windy City series by Liz Tom Ford. Um and I'm scared to death for casting for that one.

SPEAKER_01

I won't lie to you. But at the same time, but they ha Amazon also has fourth wing. And if Rebecca is happy with how it's well, it Michael B.

SPEAKER_02

Jordan who's producing it. I've told you, if I trust anybody, it's Rebecca and Michael B. Jordan. Yes. Michael B. Jordan has never done me wrong yet. So I don't know why they did the summer I turned pretty.

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, it's off campus, right? That's this that's the name of the show.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So I don't know why they're screwing it up.

SPEAKER_02

It's it's literally written for you. It's right there. The material is right there. I know everybody's like, it's just a 30-second teaser. I've been stewing about that 30-second teaser for a good three weeks. Okay? Nobody talks to me. Umbody talked to me. She does come into my office to yell about it. I have been stewing about that trailer for weeks.

SPEAKER_01

It is. They changed everything. Fundamentally changed everything.

SPEAKER_02

And listen, I understand that certain adaptations are adaptations. No, I don't want to hear it. You're right, actually.

SPEAKER_01

Jacob Tierney did such a good job on Heated Rivalry.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you have to think too, like, even the Twilight movies, like, were pretty their shit books.

SPEAKER_01

Like, it's all shit.

SPEAKER_02

But the point remains. They're so good. The book to transfer into the movie, like, was so good. Harry Potter is the same um game of well, no, actually, it there are some changes, don't get me wrong. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Harry Potter is pretty much the same. It is, you know, handed over his brown eyes. You're supposed to have your mother's green, but we'll let that know.

SPEAKER_02

It's okay because in the new series, the sweet child that does has his mother's eye. He does. Um, side note, please nobody bully these children on the internet. I may not agree with them remaking something that is near and dear to me. But those children, it's not their fault. And they're so darn cute. They are so cute. They are. Like, just let them be. I might I actually watch that too. We'll watch that. I think too. My best friend said this the other day that it is a great way for people our age who have kids to introduce this. Yes, because I can tell you a lot via the show. A lot of people sit through these movies. They're long movies. They are. I'm surprised I did as a kid. Like, I grew up watching them in the world.

SPEAKER_01

Because I was so obsessed. Like that was because I grew up go ahead and date myself between Twilight and Harry Potter. And so did I. So I was never like I I didn't watch Twilight because I was I hated it so much. I was like, fuck you guys. Are you kidding me? I loved it. No. That was my bread and butter. No. I didn't read it.

SPEAKER_02

I got those books taken away from me in school for reading them under the desk. I loved them so much. You would have thought I like it.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think I started, I don't think I read them until I was in my 30s.

SPEAKER_02

You know?

SPEAKER_01

And then me and Madam watched all of them. Realistically, should I have been reading those in middle school? No. Actually, yeah, because you know they're not biblical. They're not Oh my god, there's this girl on TikTok. She calls it biblical relations. I love her. And she just she I'll have to find her. Um I love all of her Twilight content. I'll have to find her for you. But she calls it biblical relations. They weren't having anything.

SPEAKER_02

They were not having biblical relations until the end. You're right.

SPEAKER_01

And even then it was never and by then it's not like it was very graphic. It was very closed door, actually. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

That is what I like about YA sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I love a good spicy book. But some I told you this the other day when we were looking at books in Barnes and Noble. Yeah. I love a good YA romance that's just it's closed door, but you still get the intense like emotions and the tension and the Yes. So I do love there is something to be said about a closed door book. Sometimes you do want a little more.

SPEAKER_01

You're like, but it's right there. Come on. But it's right there. As long as you don't call them folds, we're good. That is an odd. I hate it. I hate that word.

unknown

So much.

SPEAKER_01

Odd choice. And you know who loves that word? Raina Kent. Rena Kent.

SPEAKER_02

She does love that word. We should do a word count sometimes of how many, like a tally. I don't know how many times. It's okay. Lights out and folds, too. Did it? Did. I don't recall. I was too busy focused on so many other things. Yes. Speaking of lights out. Here we go. Here's our segue. Here's our segue into the book that we quote unquote read.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, what are you doing over there?

SPEAKER_02

Just make a noise. Sorry for the background noise, guys. For this week, we chose an easy read, one could say, because we have both read it. Um both read it. I just finished it today. We'll get into that.

SPEAKER_01

Morgan never lets me live it down.

SPEAKER_02

We'll get into that. I bring that up at least twice a week. She does. So Brie had Brie had read it, but she paused it in a place where she thought, oh, they're good. They're good. I had like two hours left in the uh audiobook, I think. That was the reason. I've never actually listened to the audiobook from the clips on TikTok. I love it. But you know, I can't focus if I listen to an audiobook, so I had to read it. But the audiobook being on TikTok, the clips was the reason I read that. That is the book. The reason I read it as well. I loved it so much.

SPEAKER_01

I love what is his name?

SPEAKER_02

Jacob Jacob Morgan, I believe.

SPEAKER_01

Because he does a few, yes, a few of my books. But he also has another name too.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yes, he does, he does. I don't remember it, but I recall like he does it under two. Very cool, very cool. But he um his portrayal of Josh is just so.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. He uh he mates all of his characters because they are all so funny and like the way he delivers his lines. I love him.

SPEAKER_02

Did you say he did the Chase audiobook? The one I just sent you the clip the other day, and you were like, I think I read this book, but I can't remember or listen to this book. Hold on, please hold. Please hold it. It's in my library.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely read that shit.

SPEAKER_02

That's crazy to me.

SPEAKER_01

You read Drier You before you ever read any other L. Kennedy book. You're crazy. Yes, Jacob did it. Because of that one clip. That's my best friend. What the fuck? Yes.

unknown

What the fuck?

SPEAKER_01

The elevator.

SPEAKER_02

We jolt in surprise. Yes. The elevator opens to find Summer's Brother Dean. As in my best friend Dean. I love that whole book. And we'll actually reread. We'll get into the Al Kennedy universe of it all later for sure. But it's so funny to me that you would actually listen to a Briar U book before.

SPEAKER_01

Right in the middle.

SPEAKER_02

Right in the middle.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, I am in the middle of all the action. I need to read that one just because of that one clip. I was like, yeah, I like that. SmackDab in the middle of all the action.

SPEAKER_02

You missed. I missed everything. Everything. No context. Just. Yep. Oh. That's amazing. So Lights Out, Navessa Allen. One of my favorite, favorite books.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. It's pretty good.

SPEAKER_02

What would you rate this one? If you gotta think about it, I don't want to.

SPEAKER_00

I'm going to five stars or not. I love this book so much.

SPEAKER_02

I take no criticism on it. Every time somebody's like, I'm like, why? It was so funny.

SPEAKER_01

It is very funny. Netflix has a hold of this one. Does it? Yes. I think I remember her seeing that.

SPEAKER_02

Um you know, if it's not gonna be rated R. If you're not gonna show me Nay a chic, or can you just give it to Crave Canada at this point?

SPEAKER_01

Give it all to Canada.

SPEAKER_02

Every book adaptation has to go through Crave Canada. I guess HBO, but I guess HBO, maybe. I think it's really good with um is it big little eyes?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

It's it I I know it's it's got Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz. It is a book adaptation. It was pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

It was pretty good. Um they do some good some good ones. But if you're Crave Canada, I think you should have Especially if you're James. Especially if you're right, let's just say.

SPEAKER_01

Get him on the pod. Get him on the pod. Um I like I'd give it a four.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I liked it. I just think she says she's such a hysterical writer.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. We haven't read any of the other follow-up books.

SPEAKER_02

I have.

SPEAKER_01

Have you?

SPEAKER_02

So I read the second one. Which is Caught Up. Caught up. Okay. I was like, I had to think about it because Game On. Game. Game On, I believe, is the third one, and that's about to come out.

SPEAKER_01

I believe.

SPEAKER_02

I believe it might have just come out. It's either about to or it's just come out. We're doing research. Mid. We're very prepared. We're very prepared. We're so ill prepared.

SPEAKER_01

Game on and caught up. I think game on is actually out.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

SPEAKER_01

I think they released. There's a big scandal.

SPEAKER_02

They released Onyx Storm, I saw it before. Yes, that's it. Because I kept going into every Target. Yes. Like, do you have Onyx?

SPEAKER_00

Do you have it?

SPEAKER_02

I went into Walmart. I went into Target. Anywhere I could think of because TikTok was like, oh, I have it. And I'm like, but I want it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it ships April 1st through the 4th. So it's pre-order.

SPEAKER_02

Pre-order. Okay. We're still out. It's almost out. I am still on the fence if I'm gonna read that one. Caught up wasn't necessarily my favorite. It was good. And I liked the characters in it. And I love the way Nevessa writes. I think she's amazing. I just here's and and the same goes for the Butter and Blackbird series. I love that series. This is where I will admit that I have not read the follow-up books, and it's because I get very nervous that the other ones aren't gonna be as good as the first one.

SPEAKER_01

Can I tell you what I did? Which I read I read all of them. Right. All of the Blackbird series. Um, I got to the second book. I finished it. I did not listen to the epilogue. No? I was just like, I'm kind of over it. Where you think? Because I was like, okay, just the epilogue was ending on a sex scene. I was like, come on, like, I'm over this. Fair enough. Tell me why I'm on TikTok. And the epilogue comes on. She is pegging him. That isn't the epilogue. So I immediately had to go and listen to the epilogue. That's crazy to me. I was not expecting everybody in the comments is like, I know that one. I was like, what do you mean? What did I miss? What did I miss?

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to our editor. Breezy. Thanks, Daniel. Thanks, Daniel. So we start out. Okay, uh let me pull my notes up. Pull your notes up.

SPEAKER_01

We start out with that Yeah, that horrific hospital scene. Horrific hospital scene. Guy's chest cavity being cracked open.

SPEAKER_02

There's a lot of you know, there's a lot of like really good like ER scenarios though. Yeah. In this one. I feel like because sometimes, you know, in the medical portion of some of these like romance novels, they kind of get a little unrealistic where you're like, yes. Like Gray's Anatomy. Anyways. How many times are we doing how many times are we doing this? So many. So essentially, you know, they give you some really good like background, like ER scenarios. And so you get why Allie's burnout, you get why she comes home and she's just like, Yeah. Like, I can't do this. Which is why she watched that's why she watches masked men on TikTok and you know me too. I mean, I get it.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I don't get it. We are not nurses, but they see so much shit. They do, they are so underpaid.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to nurses, we love and appreciate you. Shout out to all healthcare workers, we love and appreciate you.

SPEAKER_01

The medical field couldn't do it without you.

SPEAKER_02

I couldn't do it without you. Couldn't do it without you. But they that's her her release almost. She's like, let me distract myself mask men on TikTok. Which same. Right, same. So then she starts to get stalked.

SPEAKER_00

We love stalking. We not in real life.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, never in real life. Never in real life.

SPEAKER_01

Be hot though. Right?

SPEAKER_02

So she starts to get stalked. Because she left the comments. Right. She would leave comments on his TikTok.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And Josh me, Josh, was like, I like this one.

SPEAKER_01

All because she sent a text to her hookup. Yep. Tyler was like, can you do this for me? And then he proceeds to show Josh. And Josh is like, oh she likes that.

SPEAKER_02

Let me go crazy and let me go nuts real fast. Send a security system to her house. Put cameras in her house.

SPEAKER_01

I don't How many cameras did? He only put one in, didn't he? Or did he put more in? You know, I feel like he put more in.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. But he definitely had one in her room. Yes. Which is. But I will say he used it responsibly.

SPEAKER_01

He did. Unlike some people. Unlike this mass Valentine, you made me read. Oh yeah. You never read it. He had like 37 cameras in her house. I told you it was very much a copy of Lights Out. In a bad way. 37 throughout her house.

SPEAKER_02

Mmm. But he sent her a security system when he realized she was being unsafe.

SPEAKER_01

And then when she had a bad day at the hospital, he came to get her. He did. Was it a bad day or was it the bad weather? I think it was both, wasn't it? I think it was both.

SPEAKER_02

If I had to guess, it was both. I'm I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. It's been a minute since I've liked this.

SPEAKER_01

Just read my last two hours. I like attempted to skim through it.

SPEAKER_02

I know it by heart.

SPEAKER_01

But Morgan, Morgan, only tell you, Morgan called me. What time did you call me today?

SPEAKER_02

Like three o'clock ish?

SPEAKER_01

No, I was here at three o'clock. Like you called me at 1.17. You know, hey, do you want to record today?

SPEAKER_02

I was like, hey, should we just get this out of the way?

SPEAKER_01

So uh didn't crack open a book. Didn't crack open. I had to buy this book. It was not on Kindled Limited. Oh no. And then I ended up listening to it at one and a half speeds. One time. Yeah. So let me know, that's good. Anyway, I finished it. As long as you finish it.

SPEAKER_02

Because before she had stopped at a point, she felt that they were good. They were good.

SPEAKER_01

It was happy ending. It was good. It was a happy ending. We got to the part where they were running through the forest after Allie and Josh left that guy's house.

SPEAKER_02

Do you know what's so funny? Is when I think of them like him trying to break in and like them essentially killing him. I always think of the John Mullaney quote from one of his specials. Do you want me to kill that guy for you?

SPEAKER_01

Like, that's exactly what engaged. I love how they just accidentally killed him. That is. It wasn't accident. That's the biggest, like the You killed him because you put tape over his nose. Right? That's what who puts tape? I'm pretty sure that's how they kill him. I'm pretty positive. And then Josh is mental breakdown thinking he's gonna be his dad. Which, by the way, spoiler, is a serial killer. He's not his dad. Not his dad. He's a sweet bean.

SPEAKER_02

Picked her up from the hospital, brinks a knife, and she's just like, well, you know, come into the house.

SPEAKER_00

All good. All good. I'm so sorry if a masked man picked me up from my job.

SPEAKER_02

I'd have questions. I'd have so many questions. He is funny though, the way he's just like. No, I can't scare her like that yet. She's been through too much. Right. I love, I love just the the funny like one-liners he has. He's so funny. The way she's the whole time like, I'm gonna investigate, I'm gonna figure out who this is. And she see she meets up at their apartment and she's like, it's definitely Josh.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely you.

SPEAKER_02

He's wearing a mask at night. I bet yes.

SPEAKER_01

I love him. I really do. To go back to beat a dead horse, Jacob does it so perfectly. He really does. He was the perfect choice.

SPEAKER_02

I genuinely love just the the portrayal of it all, the way he does it. Now, is it a dual POV? Okay. It's dual readers. Dual readers. Um, because I don't I don't think I've heard clips of her point of view, but I've definitely heard his.

SPEAKER_01

Um Do you know who hold on. I think it's like Elena Wolf or something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't believe I've ever heard I might have heard clips of her POV in the audiobooks, but I have I've really heard his. His went around big time.

SPEAKER_01

I like her, she's good. You know, some of them, some of these author, not authors, voice actors can be so their voices are just grating. Yeah. Not hers. I like hers.

SPEAKER_02

I want to going back to Lynn. I really want to listen to some of her audiobooks because she's got some really good readers for some of her books.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_02

But I do like theirs too. I've heard clips of theirs. I like all of them.

SPEAKER_01

Who should I listen to? Is it?

SPEAKER_02

Lynn Painter's audiobooks are good.

SPEAKER_01

Hmm. I'm looking. I'm sorry, I'm looking right now. Zachary Webb, that's Jacob's other name. Oh. Oh, she's had Teddy Hamilton. She does have Teddy Hamilton. And Zachary Webb.

SPEAKER_02

So he's done some of her. Okay. He did Betting on You. Oh, I did like Betting on You.

SPEAKER_01

What else did he do? Teddy Hamilton made for each other.

SPEAKER_02

I haven't read that one yet.

SPEAKER_01

Love Wager. I haven't read that one yet either. They do seem to keep the same female.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, if you like what you like.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I know Aiden Bissett does fake skating. And Charlie Bushnell, I believe, does better than the movies or nothing like the movies.

SPEAKER_01

Aiden, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Aid I wanna I wanna listen to fake skating. Better than the movies. Who did you say it was? I wanna say he might do nothing like the movies, actually. Charlie Bushnell?

SPEAKER_01

Uh Charlie does nothing like the movies, yes. Okay. So he did the second one. But then they have Jesse Delinsky. She only narrated Better Than the Movies. So Better Than Movies is not dual movies.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say Better Than the Movies is not a dual POV. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um it's strictly Liz, but the second one you get to see Wes's POV.

SPEAKER_01

Betting on You is Jesse and Zachary West.

SPEAKER_02

I might have to listen to Betting on You. I did like that book. That one was really good. Fake Skating was really good too.

SPEAKER_03

Most popular.

SPEAKER_02

We're like getting we're all over the place. So sorry, everyone.

SPEAKER_01

Not hard to tell we did not read this book.

SPEAKER_02

We read it! Not recently. Not recently. We read it. This is don't call this a throwaway episode. This is a filler episode.

SPEAKER_01

This is a f we'll be we'll be on to new content. I want it to be known. I read my three books that we're supposed to read.

SPEAKER_00

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_01

For this episode.

SPEAKER_00

In my defense, 2023 me thought they were the greatest things since sliced bread, and 2026 me quickly realizing that they are not. So that's why we are taking a break from the reverse for a minute.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I st I think I have like a hundred pages left on Twisted Kingdom. I'm gonna finish it, so I need to. I'll reread them. At some point.

SPEAKER_00

At some point.

SPEAKER_01

I just feel like they didn't need three books. Sometimes things can be an email, you know? Just tell me who shot you. We already know your write it down. Just tell me who shot you. That's the last missing piece. I'm pretty sure it's Aiden that shot her. Bum bum bum. That's my thought. I don't remember. Good.

SPEAKER_00

It'll be like rereading it for the first time. I think this episode is definitely funnier than we thought because we're just all over the place.

SPEAKER_01

We gave up on Lights Out. I'm so sorry. We backed out.

SPEAKER_00

Five-star read. Just read it. Listen to it wherever you can get your audiobooks. 10 out of 10 time was had. We can't, we're not gonna spoil it for you. It is good.

SPEAKER_01

I do enjoy it. They're funny. It ended happy. I shouldn't have called it twitch. Oh. It ended very happy.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna be like, why not?

SPEAKER_01

No, it ended happy. It ended very happy.

SPEAKER_02

It did. They got a good ending. They had a good story arc. There were models.

SPEAKER_01

And it wasn't like it wasn't overly drawn out either.

SPEAKER_02

No. And that's why I love Nevessa's writing so much.

SPEAKER_01

But it's also a very quick timeline, too.

SPEAKER_02

Most most of them are though. When you think about it, if they start stalking you, bam.

SPEAKER_01

Bam.

SPEAKER_02

Relationship.

SPEAKER_01

That was very quick, though.

SPEAKER_02

Nothing wrong with a good quick.

SPEAKER_01

No, thank God. Don't try that shit out.

SPEAKER_02

Right. I love when I love when authors get to the point. Yes. I love when they get to the point. Because sometimes you get those books where you're like, listen.

SPEAKER_01

Can we get to the resolution? That was me and the trials of the Sun Queen, I think, that whole series. Which is good. I'm really gonna make you read it. I gave up on the book.

SPEAKER_00

You did give up.

SPEAKER_01

I give up the third book. I was like, I'm over this shit. This could have been two books. Make them launder. It's a very good series. I will make you read it. I liked it. I think I just need I needed a break. You know, I understand that. Sometimes you just need like a reading break. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like you get into all these books and then you're like, eh, who am I to sit here and continue to read the same books? The same. Yeah, god damn. It's definitely it's definitely one of those things where you get burnt out and you're like, I need a palette cleanser. Like, what are my palette cleanser books? Like, what am I picking daisies on Sundays was one of my palette cleanser books. I love that one. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I just go back to AO3 and my fan fiction. Maybe you read fan fiction as your palette cleanser. Maybe you reread the Al Kidney series 20 times over if you're here. Or Heated Rivalry. That's also that's a very good palette cleanser cleanser, too. Like I know how it ends. It's nice.

SPEAKER_02

Eventually we will review those as well.

SPEAKER_01

We will. I cannot wait.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta get into the show eventually. Nobody shame me for not watching.

SPEAKER_01

I shame her all the time.

SPEAKER_02

I have seen half of the first episode.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.

SPEAKER_02

Just half.

SPEAKER_01

And then we're gonna sit here and hate watch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because I have the time. I have the time. Fear not. I'll make the time. Well, guys, you've listened to us rant now for over 45 minutes.

SPEAKER_00

We're at 40. We're close. We're close enough.

SPEAKER_02

We um we'll be back next time with a brand new book. What are we reading? The next book is by SJ Sylvis. It is a Formula One romance.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I believe. Let me pull up my Kindle because it is in there.

SPEAKER_01

I guess I should probably go ahead and add it to my You might want to. Unless I already did it. It is called. I have not. Ooh.

SPEAKER_02

If it would show up in my Kindle. I could tell you what it's called. Overtake by S.J. Sylvis.

SPEAKER_01

Overtake.

SPEAKER_02

I believe it's an enemies to lovers kind of vibe, so I'm excited. And then after that is Daggermouth. I've heard really good things about both books, actually. So I'm very excited to see what the what the vibe is. Yeah, what is the vibe?

SPEAKER_01

I do believe Have you read this?

SPEAKER_02

Overtake? Overtake? Not yet. Oh, okay. Not yet. No. This is completely new to both of us. I have not read it, but I've heard very good things. So that is why it is it is a new book.

SPEAKER_01

Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_02

One we have not read previously.

SPEAKER_01

Rena Kent never sleeps. Let me just tell you. Already? Already. Crave. What is it? Crave the villain. When is that one? March 17th of 2027. She doesn't sleep. Does not sleep. We already know when it's coming out. That's crazy. She's got crazy. Tonight is crazy, bitch. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Alright. Adios. Alright, we'll see you next week with our SJ Sylvis read. I'm excited. It'll be good. I love a good we'll talk some Formula One next week. We'll get we'll get into the. Can we just get David on the pod? He loves Formula One. Yeah, we should totally invite our boss David on the pod who loves Formula One. I know so many people who love Formula One. So we'll I'll I'll get into I'll bring to the table some some Formula One facts for next week. Okay. I'll do some extra research. How about that?

SPEAKER_01

Alright, that sounds good.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, my friends. We will see you next time.
