SPEAKER_02Yes. Um I don't even know where to start. This is weird without having Amy. I've never done it without Amy.

SPEAKER_02You have a lot to make up for.
SPEAKER_00I have big shoes to fill because Amy's.
SPEAKER_02She kind of makes up for me.
SPEAKER_00Amy's the star of the show.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true, unfortunately. I guess maybe I need to be a little funnier.

SPEAKER_02But Amy's like really funny, and I'm just kind of there. You know?

SPEAKER_02I'm like the point guard.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then she's like the shooting guard. Yes. So I can like kind of set her up to let her do her thing. But I do feel like when we'd have other people on, then she's a little more quiet and reserved.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But then when it's just us, then she's better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02But I do feel like when you're on with her, she's more, she goes a little more crazy too. And she's better. But when it's Emily, I feel like then she takes a step back.

SPEAKER_02That's true because Emily then goes, you know, and does more. But I don't know. That's just what I think.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. She's so funny. She's the best.
SPEAKER_02She's she's a character for sure. Um, well, this is gonna be like the longest we've talked in a while.
SPEAKER_00Like sitting down and having like a one-on-one, not interrupted conversation.
SPEAKER_02I've I'm like, I like 100%. I'm a little nervous as it's gonna turn into couples therapy or something. Like we're just gonna hash out all their problems right now. Because I mean, yes, it's because the boys, so we never like sit down, but also because of we've been traveling so much with family so much. Well, yeah, it's like it's we used to talk more when we were in Virginia, yeah, of course. But now it's chaos.
SPEAKER_00Well, and it doesn't help that you're gone Monday through Thursday.
SPEAKER_02Monday through Friday.
SPEAKER_00Monday through Friday, and then yeah, then you're on a plane, we're here, and then it's well, while we're here, we're either with my family or your family. Yeah, so it's hard to the whole like this summer thing is hard. It's just sad because we have so much fun talking and hanging out and stuff.
SPEAKER_02And you know what's the hardest part for me?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_02Don't think this the wrong way. Oh no, no, no, no, it's not bad.
SPEAKER_00But it's just I think I know what you're gonna say. What?
SPEAKER_02So no, you go. No, I want to hear your guess. Go. I think you're gonna say Okay, this is she'll do it 10,000 times during the show in during our real life. I will start a thought and she won't let me finish, and she'll throw in her random guess. And I'm like, no, that's not even close to what I was gonna say, but she does it every single time.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, I won't.
SPEAKER_02It actually drives me insane sometimes. No, no, no, I don't have to finish it.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I think I'm a little like ADD when it comes to conversations. Like sometimes we'll be having like a conversation while talking about something, and it will make me think of something else. So then I have to like enter like I'm an interrupter.
SPEAKER_02And I'm a person that I will talk and take a little pause to like think about exactly what I want to say. And then she jumps into it.
SPEAKER_00And I yeah, I need to be better.
SPEAKER_02You love to take my pauses and just run with them.
SPEAKER_00Sorry.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but anyway, keep going. What what do you think I'm gonna say?
SPEAKER_00You want me to guess?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But since you already interrupted, I think you're gonna say what's the hardest part about being gone is like when you're home from work and it's like you're just in a hotel by yourself.

SPEAKER_00And it's like you want to talk to me and the boys, like you want to come home to me and the boys where we are, you know, like just like you normally do. You come home from school, you come home from work, we're there. Almost feel guilty when we're here having fun without you, because we usually have fun together and we love having fun together. But I know it's like you want the me and the boys to be having fun. You don't want us to feel that way. But yeah, I don't know. So I was gonna say that it's like probably like the hardest. Like you're just alone and we're all together.
SPEAKER_02This was a rare moment where you were right with your guests. Very rare moment. But um yeah, it's weird like seeing you all just have fun, yeah, which is good. I want the boys to be having fun, I want you to have fun. But then it's like, oh, I'm just like sitting in a hotel room by myself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's lonely.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's super lonely. And it's a weird feeling because it's like especially coming off our last year where I had so much free time. Yeah, we were with each other and I was able to do so much, and I don't know, it never felt I mean, I just got I kind of forgot what it was like to have a job. Yeah, you know what I mean? And um I don't know. It's like I want to be there, and I feel like I need to be there to be a good dad, but then also it's like I need to work to be a good dad. Yeah, and so it's a weird, weird thing happening in my head right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's like polar opposite from our last two years. So I think it feels even more intense.
SPEAKER_02And even before that, I was always home. Like I worked from home. So if like at lunch I wanted to go say hi to the boys, I could.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um I did travel some, but still I was working from home. So I could just walk upstairs and tell this is always in the office, which I like at the same time because I find it super hard when I'm at home and the boys want to play.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it's like I can't, and I hate telling them no. Yeah, because then they feel like I'm choosing the computer over them.

SPEAKER_02And so that's a little depressing. But anyway, it's uh you were right. Um I will give you that one. But it has been a tough, weird transition.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But uh anyway.
SPEAKER_00We just gotta get through the summer and then hopefully it'll be a little bit better. I know you're still gonna be working a ton.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, yeah, that's gonna be the thing. It's just gonna be so much different than any job I've ever had, as far as not being at home all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then an hour's gonna be long, but it'll be good. I'm just hoping it'll be worth it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's a lot of benefits, there's a lot of ups.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It'll be good. Anyway, you guys had an eventful week without me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_02We I was actually hoping Amy was gonna be on for this because I wanted to hear about all of you guys's uh it sounds like there wasn't much drama, but no, there really wasn't. You guys were so you guys went to Telluride in a 14 or 15 passenger van.
SPEAKER_0015 passenger van. Well, we were planning on driving separate, so it was going to be me, my mom, and dad, and the boys in my dad's truck. And then Amy was gonna drive in Emily's car with her family um because Capri couldn't go, so there was gonna be an extra seat in the car. So we're gonna drive separate. The day before, my dad is like light bulb. I have the most brilliant idea. I'm gonna rent a 15-passenger van and we're all gonna pile in together and we're all gonna go. And honestly, it was so fun.
SPEAKER_02No, I think that was a good idea. It was so fun. It was a good idea. I'm glad I was not there for part of it.
SPEAKER_00No, like your head would have exploded.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it would have been a lot going on, especially with Emily and Amy together in the van.
SPEAKER_00No, the most of the chaos was Emily and Amy like trying to get a rise out of my mom and dad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. And they were sitting right behind them in those seats. Cause I remember it was like right when you guys started driving, Amy sends a video of her taking her feet and tickling your dad's elbow. Emily was like, or yeah, maybe it's Emily or Emily was like going like this on my dad was like and I knew as soon as I saw that, I was like, that is gonna be the longest ride ever for your parents.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it gave me like intense flashbacks of when we would do that road trip like two or three times a year as a family growing up.
SPEAKER_02It's a long drive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's long, and it was even longer in the van because that thing, you know, it's not as quick as the other yeah, it was slow, it was it was bogged down with all the kids. Yeah, it was wild, it was it was really fun, like especially the boys, Dean and Weston, like they had the time of their life, like they think their cousins are so cool.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, they thought they were so big, they were so nice to them.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah, they're really sweet.
SPEAKER_02So, what was the most drama that happened in the van?
SPEAKER_00I think the most drama, oh gosh, I don't even know. I mean Oh, honestly, the most drama in the van was the hairpin turns.
SPEAKER_02The hairpin turns.
SPEAKER_00Hairpin turns. So it's like when you when you come back like down the canyon into like Naturita or wherever I I think that's what it's called. Um the the roads, it's really scary and it's like straight cliffs next to you. And not all of them have like a barricade thing on the side, because then the snowplows can't get in to snowplow in the winter. So there's no barricade. So we're going down and the so like a bobby pin. This this is the way this is how Shannon explained it. And she's like, it's a 9% grade. What if the brakes go out? She's like, hairpin turns. Like that was the most drama. So the hairpin turn is like, so if you picture a bobby pin, like the top is like curved like that. So it's like basically you go all the way around and back down, and it's like curves like this. So it's like a hairpin apparently.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And so that was the most drama is everyone in the car shrieking about the hairpin turns.
SPEAKER_02I'm not surprised.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You all can turn something so small into the biggest deal ever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's the fun of it.
SPEAKER_02That's the fun of it?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02No, it's not. It is. It is not the fun of it. It drives me insane. Like, it's basically uh it's like when it's something small. Okay, for example, today, because it's Sunday, we're in church.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_02What?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Keep going.
SPEAKER_02This is what I'm talking about. This is what I'm talking about. I literally haven't even finished a sentence, and she gives a reaction like she knows what I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_00Keep going, go.
SPEAKER_02No, we're in church. Weston is eating a little Clementine orange thing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And barely like it's like, oh my gosh, he's joking! It's like, oh my relaxed.
SPEAKER_00That was dramatic. No, that is not that bad. It's in the middle of church. I was whispering. He's sitting on my lap and facing this way, and he made like a little noise. And so I was like, Are you are you joking? Are you okay? And he's like, No, I'm okay. And then that was it.
SPEAKER_02That was it? Yeah, that was it. Yeah, both you and your mom went like that. You guys like it was just like a like a little little something. It is crazy the reactions you guys give. Because I also, I this is my one thing, and you're gonna hate this. You come from a family of girls, yeah. I have one sister, but I you know, it was she would agree, it was ran like a boy family.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, and also she's uh 12 years old older than you.
SPEAKER_02But she would agree. It was it was very ran like a boy family, anyway. So it's like the big reactions, like I don't want my boys to have big reactions to things. You know what I mean? Do you get that? Because they're gonna do what your parents do, and so and I feel like and then the big reactions always cause them to overreact too. You know what I mean? Yeah, like yesterday, I'm fighting Dean to get his shoes on. I've been fighting him for at least 10 minutes, and I just flipped them over really fast, and his head did not bang on the ground.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no. But you no, I was turned this way, and then I was like, I heard like a little thud, and I was like, No, okay, you are underselling everything right now.
SPEAKER_02And and then, of course, Dean here's mom.
SPEAKER_00And then he starts crying. That is true. It's like when, like, okay, have you seen the videos of the parents that are like holding their kid and they like bang their hands on the thing, and then they're like, Are you okay? Are you okay? And then the kid starts crying. It's like nothing, and that's 100%. I will give you that yesterday. Yes.
SPEAKER_02So that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00I'll give you that.
SPEAKER_02The kids are always gonna react like the parents, and and I agree, and so that's why I get I like hate the overreactions because I don't want them to have an overreaction to things. Okay, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00I get it.
SPEAKER_02Like the boys, like I expect them to be out there getting hit playing football or something, and I don't want them to he hit me.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, uh a thousand percent I agree.
SPEAKER_02But it's all different.
SPEAKER_00But I think also, like, I'm a girl. I know, and they are going to look at you, they'll definitely look at you too. I know, but it's different, and as they get older, like they'll they'll understand.
SPEAKER_02I know it is a little different, and they want mom to always be there, and you know, yeah, like that's my job. The soft side, but the reactions. You guys love to do the reaction, the screaming.
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02It's crazy. But anyway, yeah, I could see why those little turns back and forth. We're a bit dark, especially Shannon. I bet she was losing it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she was.
SPEAKER_02I think your dad. I asked him, how's the trip? How's the van? He's like, There's a couple times your your mother-in-law was ready to turn back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know. She was like, We have to go back, we have to go home.
SPEAKER_02Because there's also the fires that are happening, which I agree, those are obviously terrible and scary. And seeing those would be scary.
SPEAKER_00And we didn't really, we didn't see any fire, but do you just see that like intense smoke? And it's like when you feel like you're almost driving into the smoke, it's like, wait.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's so scary.
SPEAKER_00Should we be doing like so? We did have a moment like that, but then we were looking it up, and it yeah, it we're pretty sure we did it going that way in the opposite direction, pretty much.
SPEAKER_02Going to St. George one time, there was a fire on the side of the road.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, what I remember that when I was little when I was little.
SPEAKER_02Like, I love how you're just like proving my point. It's so bad right now.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm not. I'm saying like like that's happened before.
SPEAKER_02But I'm just you didn't even know what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_00The fire on the road.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna talk about how we drove through it and then it melted some of the car, like the paint, because it was so hot.
SPEAKER_00Whoa. Okay, start that part over. Start over. Say, okay, I remember one time when I was start over. I can't start this part over. Go.
SPEAKER_02What? Start what part?
SPEAKER_00So that I don't interrupt you.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm not gonna cut it.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was so it was it was good. It was really fun. Honestly, oh, actually, I think the most um drama was when Weston got his finger smashed in the door. That was really sad.
SPEAKER_02Another reaction moment. I'm on the phone with you guys.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that reaction was warranted, so I don't even want to hear it.
SPEAKER_02I know. It was, I know. But anyway.
SPEAKER_00You were freaking out too. You were on the phone. You were like, what's happening? Is everything okay? What's going on?
SPEAKER_02What what okay? That word is bigger and like crazy right now. Anyway, you all right. So we are I'm on the phone with you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All of a sudden, everyone starts screaming and freaking out and saying Weston.
SPEAKER_00And Weston screaming, crying.
SPEAKER_02So what am I supposed to think?
SPEAKER_00No, no, I know.
SPEAKER_02So you think I'm not gonna be like, what the heck's going on?
SPEAKER_00No, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Everyone's screaming and no one would just calm down and tell me.
SPEAKER_00Well, I couldn't really calm down and tell you because I was trying to take care of my child.
SPEAKER_02But there was like, okay. The bickering on this episode. That's gonna be the title. Why is it not good? Who cares? Do you think other people don't bicker?
SPEAKER_00Oh, 100%. Everyone bickers.
SPEAKER_02So I think people think it's funny.
SPEAKER_00Hopefully.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, um, and then came back. You guys got back right in time for my family party, which was great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_02I was worried. I I thought there was no show.
SPEAKER_00No, no, I knew we'd make it back.
SPEAKER_02But I thought you weren't gonna leave on time.
SPEAKER_00No, I I I was early. We were early to the party.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm talking about leaving from Telluride.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. No, I made sure that everyone was up and Adam. I made everyone pack the night before. Cause I that is literally it's my favorite party. It's so fun. The boys have so much fun. They do. And your mom and dad put so much work into it. Like, I, you know, of course I'm gonna make that a priority to get us back for that. And we had the best night. It was so fun. It was such a fun party.
SPEAKER_02That was a good time.
SPEAKER_00My seventh one.
SPEAKER_02Seventh one?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy. Your seventh one, and we've been married for six of them. Yeah. And we're almost married for all seven.
SPEAKER_00I know. Isn't that crazy?
SPEAKER_02Remember when we did those YouTube videos?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They were cute. Sometimes I go back and watch them.
SPEAKER_02You do? Yeah. I would never. It's too embarrassing.
SPEAKER_00No, I know. And I look back at them and I do cringe a little bit. I feel like we're a lot different.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Look at us now.
SPEAKER_00I know. We're back at it.
SPEAKER_02Back at it. That one though, the 63, was it 63 days?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was like 63 days in an engage or something like that.
SPEAKER_02That was actually wild. I still can't believe we did that.
SPEAKER_00I know, right? Isn't that crazy? Like, I think all the time, like, wow, like it really could have, like, that really could have gone south. And I'm so happy that like you are who I thought you were, you know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what was different? What was like, do you think I hid anything from you? Because we're only engaged for 63 days. Or and then married shortly after.
SPEAKER_00No, I don't I don't think you hid anything from me. I think.
SPEAKER_02Did I hide the bickering?
SPEAKER_00I think we probably both did a little bit.
SPEAKER_02We definitely both did hid the bickering.
SPEAKER_00Because well, because when you're first dating, it's like you let things slide. Not even let things slide. Like you don't even have anything to let slide.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know? Like, I don't even think we got in like a single argument or bickering anything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_00Until probably pretty far into our marriage.
SPEAKER_02I feel like we Yeah, I don't remember the first one.
SPEAKER_00I feel like the more time, like the more time you spend with some someone, it's like you just feel more comfortable to bring something up. To say like freaking close the cabinets. Why don't you close the cabinet? Or you left the cabinet. Exactly. So yeah, I don't I wouldn't say that we like that you hid anything, no. I feel like you're exact you're exactly the same, exactly what I thought you would be.
SPEAKER_02I was definitely on my best behavior. Of course. Whoa, with the camera. I didn't hit I you don't think I hid anything. Just wasn't my best behavior.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Of course.

SPEAKER_00I think that maybe we hid like how crazy we are. Like not even crazy, just like how dramatic we are. As a whole. What?
SPEAKER_02Because it was it that was like the similar line to like, hey, I'm fat. Do you think I'm fat? No. But like I could lose a few pounds too. Was like, did I hide anything from you?

And so yeah, I I I do well with your dad. I love your dad, I think he's so funny.

SPEAKER_00Oh, it was so fun, yeah. And then and my dad went to the party, it's turned towards you again. Oh, yeah to the party, and that was really fun. Your dad loves that he came.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was nice of him because especially after driving for so long and then to come up.

And then we had to take Emily's family home, and we had to take the rental car back, the van back, and then go here, and then it's like we had to take showers and get ready and then drive another 40 minutes to get to your parents' house. And it was worth it because the party was the best fireworks ever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was really good. They were because they did more for 250. Yeah, it was fun. It was really good.

SPEAKER_00As of late, not so much with the packing and the moving and the lots of travel. Like, it's hard. Like, we bring the iPad on the plane.

SPEAKER_00Or they, you know, they watch the movie on the back of the seats. And it's like, I I I think I don't think that's the worst. No, I don't either.
SPEAKER_02Like, what are they supposed to do?

SPEAKER_02Like yesterday, Dean watching the movie all of a sudden like stands up and like wants to go get closer and get to the edge on like the railing. I was like, this like what's happening in the movie is literally proving out in real time.

SPEAKER_00It yeah, it was. I'm just like, no, no more.
SPEAKER_02With that being said, because some people do question your, not question, but want to know more about your mom philosophy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So what is your approach to all that? What do you what is your ideal situation for the boys with screen time?
SPEAKER_00My ideal situation, which I had done for how how long would you say all a little over a month?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was about over a month.
SPEAKER_00It was before we moved. I hid the remote.
SPEAKER_02That's true. I can't even turn on a basketball game. That was crazy.
SPEAKER_00Because we uh when we were living in Virginia, we only had one TV. It was in the family room. And I hid the remote and it was it was gone. And we did, they did not watch one single minute of screen time for a month and a half. And I I thought it was amazing. I loved it.
SPEAKER_02My thing is I do think sports should be allowed because they have to learn, like they have to watch it and want to see it happen. You know what I mean? Like and learn from it and know, like, oh, that's how you played that sport or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I agree with that. Because I think it's fun and it's like, you know, it's fun for you guys to like that's how I learned was watching, you know? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I also along the line, we need to I think we need to take them to more games to like the high school games and stuff.
SPEAKER_00See them in person.
SPEAKER_02Go to the high school football games, the high school basketball games.
SPEAKER_00Because that's more fun. And and the boys, they've loved going to Canons games and you know, seeing that in person, and it makes them want to dribble the ball more and like shoot the ball. And like, so now every time we get in the pool, Dean's shooting the ball in the pool, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, which is I never thought I'd see the day.
SPEAKER_00I know he's been like, I hate pests. Anti-basketball, but and he but he loves golf.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I need to do more with him, but anyway, back to screen time.
SPEAKER_00I would love for there to be zero screen time at home, like zero. You can watch a show when we're on a plane, if we're on a super long road trip, I would never give them a show for like a 30-minute car ride. Never, yeah, yeah. It's gotta be over two hours to be like because even when we lived in Virginia and we would drive two hours to DC, they never watched a show. Yeah, we just talked and listened to music and stuff, and I think that's so much better for them. Yeah, but but once we started packing for the hand thing. It's still on me. I can see it in the thing.
SPEAKER_02Is it on both of us?
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Once we started packing to move, I was like, uh No, there's certain times you have to. We need to turn a show on so that I can pack the glass stuff and I can and when there's nothing in the house. Yeah. No, no, all of our toys were being packed up. It it just was hard.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so since then we've kind of fallen back into a bad habit.
SPEAKER_02And what about outdoor boys at bedtime? Because that is my favorite. I know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_02I love that. So outdoor boys is like a little camping channel of the dad and his boys. I love to lay in bed and watch it with them. And I do think it's gotten us to want to do more adventurous things.
SPEAKER_00A hundred percent.
SPEAKER_02You know?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and I don't, I'm not totally against screen time. I think like the content of the screen time is I think probably way more concerning, but I think the amount needs to be small.
SPEAKER_02I hate the the little kid shows are insane.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's crazy.
SPEAKER_02And like watching their faces when that like comes on, it's it's pretty sad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_02But like we all used to do it too, and we turned out all right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and a lot of the shows that I play for the boys are shows that I watched when I was little, like Little Bear and Give a Mouse a Cookie, and like those ones I think are really sweet. Clifford, the OG Clifford, not the new one. And but even with those, they get zombie-like, and it I don't like it. It like makes me feel sick, honestly.
SPEAKER_02It's kind of weird. I don't know. I I don't know how to deal with it because also when they get older, they're gonna have to be on you know, screens for schoolwork, and obviously, that's all I do is look at a screen all day, and you. And I think that's also hard too, is for us being the parents, it's like, oh, you guys can't be on screens, but we can't be on screens all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's because like you're looking at your computer all day for work and you know, for school.
SPEAKER_02And then we also are really bad sometimes at being at home and being on our phones.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because it's like it and I think especially for me, because it's like, yeah, sure, when I'm on my phone, I'm usually editing a video or filming a video or you know, doing doing something like that. But they don't know the difference, they just see that I'm looking at my phone and it does, it makes me feel really bad. So um yeah, I used to edit my videos like only when I was nursing Weston. And that was really nice because it gave me like an opportunity to sit down and and do that while whatever. And and even when I did that, I almost felt guilty that I wasn't like talking to Weston and Dean while I was nursing them, you know, and I was like editing this video. Um so it's like, yeah, I I need to get like a better schedule to like edit my videos, like maybe after they go to sleep, or and once you know so hard. Yeah, because like I don't want to edit the videos when Dean's in school because I want to have that one-on-one time with Weston.
SPEAKER_02It's tough.
SPEAKER_00I just say, yeah, I think we should need to be more mindful of it. And it's like if I need to sacrifice like staying up a little bit later and editing the videos when they go to sleep, I think that's probably what I'll have to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know, it's hard. It's kind of like a similar feeling you have with that is how I feel with being at work all day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? But and then there's also the food side, because I know you're very passionate about that too. And I do wish we could be complete, like clean psychos with how we eat. And I really want to, especially like learning different things for migraines and how different foods affect it and all that stuff. It's really made me want to like just like clean everything up, especially for them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because I don't know, but it's so hard.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like you go down the grocery aisle, you're in the ice cream section, and half of them don't even they can't even be called ice cream. I guess they're not ice cream.
SPEAKER_02This is Megan's big thing right now.
SPEAKER_00It's a freaking frozen dairy dessert, and it has to be called that because it has like less than 10% dairy in the product, and that's what ice cream is is dairy. Like, that makes me sick that like that is what we're feeding our kids. Like, it's sickening to me. Like, I think ice cream is great. It's so whole milk, like, especially the bearer for ice cream that we use.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, ice cream for bears. It's made with like full cream, whole milk, honey, and like you know, just like true ingredients. And it's like I think it's crazy that that is like the taboo thing almost. Like that's like yeah, weird, kind of like weird. I don't I don't even know how to explain it. I make homemade bread for the boys, like they don't eat store bottom.

SPEAKER_02Um, but definitely want to get a chicken coop. Yeah, you're dead set on it.

SPEAKER_00And I want them to free roam in the backyard and then they can go into their coop at night and to lay the eggs and stuff. I just think it would be eggs are like one of the best things, I think, for kids. For everyone. It's good protein, it's like it doesn't have it's like healthy fats, and it's just like it's like brain power.

SPEAKER_00And I mean, who knows if this is true, but apparently, I don't know, um, there there was like a study done, and they tested, I don't remember how many kids, a ton of kids. Half of them would eat eggs every single day. Okay, and the other half wouldn't, and the half that ate the eggs every single day had way higher IQs.
SPEAKER_02Well, I guess we'll test that theory.
SPEAKER_00So I do, I do try to give the boys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they eat a lot of eggs. So anyway.
SPEAKER_00And they love eggs. I'm happy about that.

SPEAKER_00But I want them to have good quality farm fresh eggs, not freaking hormone-injected chicken eggs from the grocery store.
SPEAKER_02This is my thing though, too, with you're not hate me for this comment. You love to do the bread, the eggs. You want everything to be really good for the boys. I agree. But then you sit there and drink Diet Coke.
SPEAKER_00And then and it's a problem.
SPEAKER_02And I drink it sometimes too, but and I think it kills my head. I think that's one of the major issues of migraines, is when I drink that. So what about that?
SPEAKER_00No, I agree. And I will say I don't drink Diet Coke when I'm nursing, especially when I'm nursing. I try not to when I'm pregnant. Um I don't think you did you? I did a little bit uh towards the end of my pregnancy. Um with which kid? Weston.

Like I've never been so happy in my whole life as I am, like, when I'm being a mom. Like that's not to say that there aren't like really hard times, and being a mom can be really hard. It's literally the best thing in the world.

SPEAKER_00And I would be upset with you if you didn't like support that, you know, and like I wouldn't have married you. Like, we're on the same page with that. Like, you want me to be home to like love and nurture the boys and our future kids. And no, no, you're not forcing me to do it, but we were on the same page with that when we met and started dating and got married.

And like, you know, we had so many conversations of like, this is, you know, this bugs me about certain people, and this I want to do this different than, you know, whoever. And I was like, okay, yeah, like I think that's gonna work. We had the same opinions, you know. We had I feel like we have a lot of the same views on virtually everything.

SPEAKER_02I know someone came up to me at the family party, and I was like saying basically, like, you got you're lucky because you found someone that is willing to just support you with whatever you want to do, which is true. Very lucky because I mean, I've drugged you everywhere from a small, tiny apartment in Rhode Island to tiny apartment in DC to back here, to back to Virginia, then now to Dallas, and moving so many times, and it's just like I'm very grateful for that because not many people would do that, especially even not a lot of people don't even want to leave Utah. Like, yeah, that is a big stretch for a lot of people.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I always thought like whoever I marry, I'm not gonna I I going back, I think for me, like with dance and everything, so many of my opportunities, opportunities that I had with dance were outside of Utah. And so I think I kind of always had the mindset that like not everything is in Utah, like not every Utah is not the end all be all. And if we need to go somewhere else to gain that opportunity and to help you succeed in your career, because along with what I was saying before with like the different avenues and like having potential in all those avenues, a lot of that is for me to help you get to those things and fulfill those things for us and our family. And I'm not ever going to hold you back from that.

SPEAKER_00Church.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Church is a big one.
SPEAKER_00It I think church and well, school last time helped. Yeah, I mean, yeah, you being in school for sure.
SPEAKER_02You know your best friend through school.
SPEAKER_00But for my school, yeah. Yeah. So my best friend that I made in Virginia, her husband was in school a sack. But she's also a member of our same church. Yeah. So we kind of had like both of those commonalities. And so I think that that really, you know, it helped connect us.
SPEAKER_01So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think churches, it's like a it's uh it's almost like a family unit, you know. And so I think also when we were moving to Texas, we wanted to make sure that we had a good church group. Yeah, like a good congregation that we were moving into for our like boundaries or whatever. And I think that we found a really great one.
SPEAKER_02So that's like the thing I worry about the most is just because I know I'll be fine. I can live anywhere. I've lived in a lot of different places and I'm fine. But I always worry about just you guys moving to a different place and making sure you have friends and you feel comfortable, and then making sure the boys have friends and feel comfortable. Yeah. So that one's obviously still like I feel like I know you're gonna have some good friends there, but finding like, for example, the last place you lived, you truly found one of your best friends you're ever gonna have.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And so it's like our I just hope you can find someone. Maybe it doesn't have to be as close as her, but like someone you like to hang out with a lot, you know. And something that and someone that has a family or boys that are in similar stages that make it easier. But yeah. I guess Dury's still out on that one. So we'll see.

SPEAKER_02Pray for us. Um, are you planning to do homeschool or find a good school for the boys nearby?
SPEAKER_00No, I I I homeschool's tough. I can't do homeschool. I I don't think that I'm I don't think that I'm smart enough for that.

SPEAKER_00Oh no, and I don't think that I'm dumb, but I I am dyslexic. And it is true. Things get a little dicey. So I'll own it.

SPEAKER_02No, but like we moved it to a good area with good schools. Yeah. So I think it'll be fine. Yeah. And I and we also I think good schools. Just the boys need to be around kids and socialize and kids from different areas, and just kind of gets in, you know.
SPEAKER_00They are the most friendly, social little boys. They love friends.

SPEAKER_02It's tough. Because I feel like kids are still pretty shy around like Dean's age, but he's so outgoing that Dean is so outgoing. Kids don't know how to deal with him sometimes because he's so friendly, so willing to talk and do whatever. And the kids are like, What? The kids get a little bit so I just hope he finds kids that are you know as I go up.

SPEAKER_00No, I absolutely could not. I'm too far gone. I have two more children to have. I can't. Yeah, I don't want to.

SPEAKER_00I don't know if I have any advice. I think it's like as a mom, you just rise to the occasion, you know, because you have to, you don't have another choice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's kind of crazy. Like thinking back before at life before kids.
SPEAKER_00How easy.
SPEAKER_02And you thought that was like you had no just you had no time for sleep or to do anything. It's kind of wild.
SPEAKER_00I think it's just I don't know. I I think it's really amazing like what we can do as people and like how much you can like grow and expand, like especially like the love that you can give and that you can show and that you can do for people like through having kids. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I agree. Um, some rules you want to have for the boys as they get older.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we've said this before, no sleepovers.
SPEAKER_02That's the first thing that comes to my brain.

SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know. I don't know about super strict rules. Um I think they just better I just want them to be respectful.

SPEAKER_02And loves to do the opposite of what he's told, like me. And uh so that's I'm still trying to figure that out. I've talked about that on here, but I just want them to be respectful and just listen to what we say. Like that's all I ask. Because are they gonna do dumb stuff? 100%.

SPEAKER_02And I don't want them to, I don't know. Like my dad was was he super strict with like sports and stuff? Yes. Yeah. But he I don't remember having many like rules of things like I could and couldn't do.
SPEAKER_00I think your parents, they just really trusted you because you're I also but I did have fear though.
SPEAKER_02Like if I did something like that. I I did have that fear, but I don't know. I I I've never really thought about like rules.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't think we're gonna be. But they will come to church with me every Sunday. Rules, yeah. It's like church, like go to church, no sleepovers. I'm pretty against video games.

SPEAKER_00Because I do think it, I think like being in a team sport or even an even an individual sport, whatever it is, you learn so much about you know, like the different roles that you take on while being a team member, a leader of like a good team member that's more of a follower, and like you learn, I don't know, a lot of different like problem solving skills. And I don't know, I just think I think being involved in a team activity is is really good for like the developing brain. I agree as a child, you know.

I just I've just come to I think I don't know, the realization that I don't need to show them. Yeah, there's no reason. Like my content and like the things that I post like are mostly about being a mom. And it's like I want it to be focused on that and not on my kids, you know?

SPEAKER_00And I I just what's I think the weirdest for me is like when we were living in Virginia, and it's like you all I almost feel like, oh, I'm away from Utah, I'm away from the majority of the people that like that follow me. So it's like having people come up to me in the grocery store, but like talk to Dean first was I was like, oh, this is weird. I don't, I don't like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it is a little weird when they act like they know the kids.
SPEAKER_00And I don't want them to ever feel like, oh, like, you know, you watch all of the the documentaries that have come out, and all, you know, the people that c come out and like hate their parents from having like put them on social media. And and I don't think that I I mean I don't think I was ever to that point. Like they were just in it because they were in it. Like I wasn't forcing them to be in things. And it's funny because now it's it's been let's see, I I stopped showing their faces in October. So since it's like it's the it's hard to be like, okay, you can't be in my video, you have to go. Or like, yeah, you know, it's like we'll take a family picture and it's like, okay, now turn your head to the back so that I can post it, it's hard. You have both ends of it. Um, so sometimes I'm like, okay, whatever, I'm gonna try if they're in the video, I'll put an emoji over their face. I'll try to blur it somehow, but yeah, I I don't want them to feel like I'm like, I don't know, like circus monkeys, you know.
SPEAKER_02That's my dad likes to call them. I know, yeah. My dad has their trained, trained monkeys.
SPEAKER_00Trained circus monk monkeys. Um, yeah, I just don't want that.
SPEAKER_02I just and there's also the weird thing if people and like you don't do this, but some people do. Like they use their kid on social media to make money and exploit their kid. And I think it'd be weird in the future if we did do that and say we're making money off using the boys in videos and we weren't like paying them for that. If they got in the future, grow up and they're 18, 20 years old, and like, mom, dad, I was in those videos with you and made you guys a lot of money. Yeah, that'd be kind of weird.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think and we we talked about this like even when Dean was little, where it's like I remember I had a a Hannah Anderson ad, and like he was required to be in it, and so it's like he's like a little tiny baby, and he's like in these cute little Hannah Anderson Easter jammies, and I'm like getting paid for this, and I I just felt kind of weird about it. So we do have account, bank accounts for our boys um that one we put into just for like college funds and you, you know, whatever it is that they want to do when they're older. So I think we've kind of done that. But yeah, I I don't want yeah, I just don't want there to be any weirdness there as they get older. And so I'd rather for sure just keep them separate as much as I can. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02My husband's family doesn't really celebrate holidays. For example, Christmas isn't big, no real traditions, and its parents haven't bought gifts for anyone for years. Finances are always tight for them, so they stop doing gifts for their kids slash grandkids, etc. My family on the other hand loves Christmas and all and has all like this, like have always has always bought gifts for each other. I'm sorry for correcting people's cover. I'm so sorry. And has always bought gifts for each other. And when more kids came along, we started drawing names with a $50 limit for adults, and the cousins drew names too. My husband thinks it's crazy that we all spend so much money for one day and that we need to stop doing that completely. And everyone just buys for their own kids and nothing for extended. You guys have and you guys do have a mentality of instead of buying little small things, like one, like buying crappy shoes over and over again, you guys will buy a really nice one, and you do use them for like years and years and years. Yeah. Which some people have that philosophy. Some people don't. And so I see that there's a difference there. But yes, my family does do the gifts.
SPEAKER_00And I think it's fun for the kids.
SPEAKER_02The kids love it. And we have they have scaled it down too. Like there's been we've put in limits on the spending and all that too. I think it's fun for the kids. So we have both sides.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't know. I don't think. I think if that's what the family's doing, that's what the family's doing. I think you should just go with the flow. If the family's drawing names and you gotta get a gift, you gotta get a gift. It's Christmas. But if it's like my family, like we don't really do that, then it's like, okay, whatever. I've tried to like uh coordinate drawing of the names a couple times, and it just I'm just rereading this.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I understand the husband. The husband comes from never doing this, yeah. And that would be I could see that being something that would that would bug me. It's like, oh, we've I've never done this, and now I have to spend all this money for these gifts that likely people aren't even gonna use or like in the first place. Because a lot of times it's a shot in the dark.

SPEAKER_02I hate giving gifts to other adults.
SPEAKER_00That's why like you stick to gift cards.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then it's like you give a gift card and you're like, oh, that wasn't a thoughtful experience. That wasn't a thoughtful gift at all. Yeah. But um, yeah, I think and my siblings have done that a little bit more with our like family gifts they give. Maybe it'll be gift cards to a movie theater, but then they include tons of snacks or like all this other stuff and make it like a big basket or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's really I think those are the best ones to do. Yeah, I don't I don't really see what the big deal is. And maybe if like the budget was like, you know, over a hundred dollars for each gift, I could see that like being more of a but we don't know how many adults there are and how many cousins.

SPEAKER_00But they're not getting one for every single one, right? They just they're just gonna do it.
SPEAKER_02I guess it'd be yeah for the other one. So only two and how many of your kids you have, too. Because you have to match it. Yeah, you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_00And I think if it's like if it really is like hindering you financially, then then that's a different story. It's like you should have a conversation. But if it's just because you're not used to it and you're annoyed by it, that's cringy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'd agree. I'd agree. It all just comes down to like the financials of it.
SPEAKER_00If it really is tough on you, then I would be like, okay, maybe you can find a way to do it all different, but it's like that one friends episode when they're when they're doing the big birthday party for Ross and they're getting like the the concert tickets and they go to the fancy restaurant, and like Joey and Rachel and Phoebe like order their tiny little soup in there. Yeah, or whatever. Pizza. Yes, I love that episode.
SPEAKER_02And then they have to split the bill. Yeah. Um, but I would say if I was trying to convince, say, like it was you that didn't want to do it, I'd be like, let's do it one more year and just look at the kids' faces when they open the gifts. Be like, look how much fun they're having. We're not doing it for us in the 50-colored gifts. I'd be like, look at how much fun they're having. We're doing it for them. And so just tough it out. It's gonna be fine. It's really not that big of a deal.

What chaps my ass is my neighbor's big ass dumpy POS RV that they bought last summer and they park it in the road between our houses for me to look at and it leaks shit on the road because they're too lazy to dump it. SPEAKER_00It's like if they were keeping it clean, like maybe whatever, that's one thing. You can be kind of annoyed by the sight of it, but you gotta get over it. That's gross.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and having an RV parked in the middle of your neighborhood, so it's like you all you see, I would be super annoyed. That would that would make me mad. Would you ever get an RV?

Here's the background. My in-laws are out of the country for the summer. While they're away, my husband's brother, Steve, my husband's sister, Jane, and Jane's new husband, Jeff, are all house sitting. My in-laws have always had one standing rule for the kids. Everyone is welcome at the house anytime. My per no permission is needed. It's always been an open door policy because it's the family home. Even though we technically didn't have to ask, we reached out to Steve as a courtesy since he was staying there and let him know we'd like to come over for a small backyard barbecue and set up a bounce house for one for our one-year-old son. Steve said yes. We sent a text to the family saying we're excited to hang out and have a fun evening. Then everything exploded. My husband got a text from his sister's husband, Jeff, saying, and Jeff's the new one, how dare you uh plan an event at my house? And that we're required to give 48 hours notice before coming over. My husband was completely blindsided. He replied that this is his child child at home. His parents have always made it clear that their children are welcome whenever they want, and we'd even checked with his brother Steve out of respect.
SPEAKER_00And Jeff is an in-law, he's not.
SPEAKER_02Yes, Jeff is the new husband of Jane.

Like, oh my gosh, you unfollowed me in this virtual world, and that is so mean. I know. Oh my gosh. Like, I just I think it's so funny when people use that as like this big attack. Like, we're unfollowing somebody. So, Jeff, you're a freaking idiot. Sorry. Um later we found out the real reason for the blow-up, Jane and Jeff were on the way to the airport and we and weren't even going to be home for the barbecue. Apparently, they were upset that we were getting together while they were out of town because they felt left out.

SPEAKER_00Oh man, that's disgusting. I know. Um you have like a podcast persona. And even like when I put the camera on to like do a video with you, like you act different than you do with just me. You know what I mean? I think.

SPEAKER_00This this is the thing. When we're in videos, like on my social media, mostly on TikTok, when when you're in a video with me and you're nice and like your normal, like how you treat me, like very sweet and kind and nice, there's comments that are like there I care for what you say right now. There is a I think you saw this one. Okay, here's the thing. It doesn't matter what you do, someone is always going to have something to say about it.
SPEAKER_02I can promise you that's not the reason. I could care less what the comments say.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm just saying, like, when you're your normal self, comments go one way, and then when you're when when you're maybe like a little bit more like nice, rude, and not rude, but like a little bit more like tough, I guess, in the videos, then those comments aren't made.
SPEAKER_02I think my sense of humor and my sarcasm, it's harder to do in like a short video, so it doesn't come across as well. Yeah, and that's like I'm very sarcastic, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so unless you it doesn't land as well in a short video.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so unless you know me, it looks like I'm being mean when I'm just being sarcastic.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Or just you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I think on top of that, it's like you're being recorded, so then it even changes like a little bit more intense on the video. I I don't know. I don't know, but like I remember there was one comment in the video, there was like a video where you were like just your normal, like being nice, whatever. And it was like, you guys have a chair in the corner of your room.

SPEAKER_02That's the comment you choose to bring up. That is nuts.

SPEAKER_00And so it's so what I'm saying is like it doesn't matter what you do, if you're like that, then people think that. And if you're if you go more the other way, then people think that you're an evil male chauvinist douchebag. You can't win.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so that's why I really don't care. It's just I don't think I act too much different on the podcast. You think I do?
SPEAKER_00A little bit, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like how? Just like I'm a little more sarcastic. I I think like a little more edgy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I think you say things a little bit more like blunt and sarcastic, and it's like over-exaggerated in a way for the podcast because camera, of course, like you're more animated and you're more like intense with that, but and it's like you want to be funny.
SPEAKER_02Okay, this is to end where we're supposed to be over right now, but some more couples therapy here. So, why do you care if people think I mean or not? Like, why? Why does that bug you so bad? Because I truly don't.
SPEAKER_00No, I know.

SPEAKER_00I don't know, actually. It's a good question. And and I'll if I read comments about me, like I'm like, I don't really care. These people are stupid, like whatever. But it's like if there's comments about the boys, if I if there's comments about my sisters, and there's comments especially about my parents or you, like it it it gets to me a lot more than when it's a comment about me. I don't know why.
SPEAKER_02Well, you could take this as a challenge from our therapy session.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02To stop caring about what people freaking say about me because I don't. You like you think it I don't know why. Like, do you think it affects me or something?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm sure it does because I mean I like to say the comments about me don't affect me, but you know, they do a little bit. So it's like I don't want anyone to feel that way.
SPEAKER_02Oh, well, I don't really care.
SPEAKER_00So it's like I just like I wanna like protect you, you know.

SPEAKER_00It's like I, you know, it's like you. It's like you don't like me to read the comments because you know but because it does affect you.
