"I think my house—and my family—is gaslighting me."

The Pinterest-perfect renovation of Edgewood Drive has officially collapsed. This week, we sit down for a Story Time that feels more like an intervention. Clio faces a family bonfire, a sisterhood of secrets, and a demon that has decided to become the lead editor of her mother's memoir.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The Bonfire: Why Clio’s father is desperate to burn the truth.
  • The "Sociopath" Label: Analyzing the sisters’ lunch and the trauma of the "Burn Scars."
  • The Real Deal: Meet Roy, the romantic interest and the only person who sees the real Alex.
  • The Possession: The terrifying reveal that the demon was never just in the house—it was attached to Clio.

Back to Cozy Midnight Collective. I'm Morgan. And I'm Lauren. Today the smoke from the barbecue meets the smoke from the fire. We are deep diving into part three of Play Nice by Rachel Harrison.

SPEAKER_02

Cleo Barnes wanted the truth, but the people she loves are trying to tell her she's the villain. From burned memoirs to childhood scars, the gaslighting

Hello Again...

SPEAKER_02

is in full effect.

SPEAKER_03

But it's not just her family playing games. The house is watching. The demon is riding, and the memories of an exorcism gone wrong are finally coming to the surface.

SPEAKER_02

Is Cleo a sociopath? Or is she just the only one who remembers the truth? Let's find out.

SPEAKER_03

But before we do, before we address the demon in the room.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, please don't.

SPEAKER_03

Let's pull a card to ground ourselves. The midnight draw.

SPEAKER_02

Let's do it. Lego. Okay, I'll let you go first.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

My dear. That's my fave. I got those at the movie, so we went to go see the mummy. Uh what was it? Saturday night, right? Yeah, Saturday night. And I got these at the movie

The Midnight Draw

SPEAKER_02

theater and I didn't open them. And I was like, this'll be good for munching on the pod. Mm-hmm. We're green, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we are. Okay. I need to download like um, because I used to have AMC Plus and we told me I could get it again. Um, well, the streaming service AMC Plus. Oh yeah. Uh-huh. But it comes with Shudder, which has like all of like the scary movies and stuff like that, and like just different kinds of stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I keep forgetting I like I need to just download it so we can watch like more horror movies. And I'm pretty sure like AMC Plus doesn't do like the whole like you can only watch from like one IP address. Cause like you know how Netflix you can watch unless you pay for like the the extra, which who wants to know.

SPEAKER_02

They just upped their prices again. They just emailed me because every year it's gone up, and now it went up from like I think it was 24 or 25 up to like 30 or 32. It's ridiculous. Um I'm like oh my god. I'm like, I don't even want to think about pretty sure I only paid like it was like six or ten bucks when it was just like me by myself. But I pay for my family, so um we can have up to five different so it's five accounts, and like you can do five different IP addresses essentially, I guess is what it boils down to.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, both of mine are upside down. But got the upside down four of wands and the upside down two of wands. At least we're keeping it in the same section.

SPEAKER_02

I was already there. Oh, nice. Okay. You said upside down. Alright. Two of wands, here we go. Upside down. When reversed, this card signifies the need for a long-term goal or plan to get there. You should start asking by asking yourself, or did I say that weird? You should start by asking yourself what you really want. Once you've done that, figure out steps to get there. You've ignored planning in the past and it has hurt your progress. Okay, so planning. Four of wands. Reversed. Reversed. The four of wands can point to tension at home, delays in plans, or trouble fully relaxing. You may need to create your own sense of stability instead of waiting for others to provide it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's me.

SPEAKER_02

That is me so hardcore. I feel that card. You're not alone. I'm like, if that's even going on, it sounds like you sometimes. I don't know. Yeah, weird shit happens lately. But I I can't recall. I'll have to like listen to our episode to see if it was on point because it has been quite a week. From emails not going like just weird stuff. Yeah. I'm like, this is my life. And I'm calling you to let you know. So just so you know, you there's nothing you can do about it, but I just need to share in my weirdness of my life. Isn't that weird what happened earlier? I was like, no, no, no, no. She was there, she saw it. Yes, I read it. There's something going on with our reality, and so last night I was literally staying up watching YouTube videos. Like, I had so much laundry to fold, and so I was like folding laundry and listening to different YouTube videos about the CERN thing that's in like on the border of like I fucked that up, of Switzerland and France that they it has it's like the particle collision the particle collision or collider. Um have you heard about it? Oh, it's a huge thing. So supposedly um, you know how the Mayan calendar had everything, the world ending in like 2012? So they started this thing prior to that. So there's like a lot of conspiracy theories that um there's like a that they opened like a portal to hell, that they're that they broke the timeline that we were on and merged us with a different timeline, which is why more than ever now people are having and it's more mainstream the various like Mandela effects, like how everybody's like no, like hardcore, just like out of nowhere. Everybody was like freaking out that like no something's off, and then also that like time is speeding up, and essentially they're saying they broke our reality and they shot our earth off into like a different into a different timeline than it than it it was on, but it was to save it because something was gonna be happening in 2012, and we were trying to avoid whatever that was. Um, you gotta look it up, dude. It's fucking wild. But it's a it's a they're trying to figure out the purpose of it, which they've put over 9.2 billion dollars into it so far. And here's the thing it's not owned by any country, so there's no government um that can essentially make policy changes or shut it off, or this, that, and the other. Like it's owned by so many different countries, but it falls under no government. It's all like private, so it's really hard for anybody to do anything about it because it has to go before a board and get voted on and stuff like that. Like it's it's wild, and there's some weird shit going on, like that they're pulling in the Illuminati and the reptilians, and like just everything lately is like going back to this like one thing topic that we all keep seeing over and over again. And you just gotta like look into it because there's oh, or TikTok. There's I was on TikTok watching a majority of it before I was like, all right, I'm gonna go over to YouTube and watch like lengthier videos, but it's it's been around for a while. You probably have heard about it, but you're just not like putting two and two together. But like supposedly they're trying to, like, they're what they're doing is trying to figure out like the Big Bang, how the earth was created, and how essentially when we our universe was created by matter, how did the molecule get weighted? Like, how did we go from when a majority of everything is a non-weighted matter, how did we get a weighted matter? And it's like you know, scientific lingo and tons of math and stuff like that. I'm not that smart, but um, but then there's this like ulterior motive where all the conspiracy theories are, and it's just so fascinating. So I was like, everywhere I go, I'm like tumbling down. My brain is like, we're all fucked no matter where.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe that should be like since we're still having kind of a hard time getting momentum with Midnight Confessions, yeah. Maybe that's what our next episode should be, where you and I each pick out two theories.

SPEAKER_02

So cool.

SPEAKER_03

And then we brief each other on it. Yeah, where it's like just pick like this is part one of this topic, just pick two random ones. Each of us will cover two, and then we'll take turns and then we'll just tell each other something new. Yeah, and we won't say anything beforehand. We're literally just gonna read it out loud.

SPEAKER_02

Except for you know, I'll choose CERN. Yeah. Okay, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think that's what we should first one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that sounds like a really good idea.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, and then yeah, until we pick up steam with that.

SPEAKER_02

So it's gonna pick up at some point because I'm like, dude, morbid's talking about like sometimes they don't even get to some of their stories for like two, three years. And then that homegirl, she's brand new and she's like, I have 40,000 in my inbox, and I'm like, okay, so we just haven't hit the right button yet. Yeah. Because people have stories to tell, they're not just like we're not gonna tell them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, it's probably because we're still new. They're like, how can I know I can trust them with these stories? But yeah, I say for we let's just do a couple conspiracy theories. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Right side up, Knight of Swords. Okay, right side up, three of wands. What the fuck? You got two and four, and I got three.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Three of Wands upright. The keyword here is progress. Your efforts are starting to pay off, and you can see the path opening ahead. This card signals expansion, opportunity, and the rewards of planning ahead.

SPEAKER_02

Like the totally opposite of the one card you got.

SPEAKER_03

But it's perfect for you though, because like all the work that you've been doing, like here in a couple weeks, slowing down because I'm tired. Nah, but like you're you've put in a lot and like you're about to like go off on like this awesome like adventure with which has taken what you said, like two, three years of planning. And yeah, I think it's yeah, you're doing awesome. Knight of Swords upright, ambition and swift action are encouraged. Move decisively. I think those are good ones for you.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Alright, all right, universe. If you're real, I'm just kidding, you're obviously real, I'm in you. This world, it's it's crazy. I'm just glad you're along for the ride. Because, like, even though I like I've had my best friend Nikki's been in my life, like my entire fucking life. Will you can you put that up there next to the sea? I still feel like, you know, she's not we never like lived together and we've spent a ton of time together, but never every single day for like months and months and months and months and months and months. Yeah. And like that's how we are right now, and hopefully will be for a long time. And it's like, there's some stuff I just can't explain to people because you would have to know. You'd have to be there. And I'm just like so excited that you're here with me. Because I'm like, do you see? Like, I swear to God, I'm like, what is going on in my life? This is not, it's wild. Something's crazy, and I'm like, I am not crazy. No, even like boiling down to like random people days in a row will like come up to my car door and like knock on it and like cuss me out for doing the correct procedure in a school parking lot, but nobody else. Yeah, and then I'll be like so kind, like okay. I don't know, just crazy stuff that happens, yeah. And I'm like, I'm not just being a fucking crazy conspiracy theorist, like crazy shit is going on, yeah, and I'm witnessing some of it. And I'm glad that you're with me too. So I'm like, yeah, insane. Yeah, don't 737 me. Uh-uh.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Anyways.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. The midnight draw. Yeah, that was good.

SPEAKER_02

Closing it out, guys.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, so with that, I say let's get into it. Let's get into it. First of all, this part goes crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Like absolutely insane. Oh, should we trigger warning really quick? Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You guys should know by now. Yeah, but like, quick spoiler and trigger warning. Um, we are gonna go, yeah, that we're gonna go fully in depth, you know. We we go really like we deep dive into these books. And, you know, we really try to leave like no stone unturned. And, you know, like we're very passionate about this book, so sometimes that passion comes out the form of fuck. But um, Rachel

The BBQ & The Bonfire

SPEAKER_03

Harrison is a really amazing writer. I've like I've said before, I've read her other book. Well, she has lots of other books, but I haven't. I am a sucker for werewolves. I oh yeah, it's a werewolf book. I love werewolves, they're like my favorite thing in the whole world.

SPEAKER_02

I prefer them over Dracula.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we don't have enough like mainstream werewolf material. Yes, the newest one. Yes, and I liked it, and then they're apparently they are doing like the same person that did Nosferatu, I believe. They're doing a werewolf movie, which I'm so excited about, and it's got Aaron Taylor Johnson in it, and it's also got Lily Rose Depp. So the same I haven't heard about it. Two of the same people that were in Nosferatu. Yeah, and that was apparently it's like a feratu. I loved it. I loved it in the dark, it was cinematic, yes, gorgeous. The memes that came out of it. Oh yeah. You must bounce on it. I bounce on it. Love it. I loved it. I loved it so much. Like last year, that was like the first movie that was like what I wanted for Christmas was to go see that movie. And then right after that, we went and saw Sinners. And so it was like back to back vampires.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, you did tell me that.

SPEAKER_03

And Sinners was good. I oh I watched it. I got to watch a friend of ours watch it for the first time. So watching somebody watch it for the first time. Was that good? Was that amazing? Was that as good as watching it for the first time? Yeah, like I love seeing like how people put fall in love with it too. Yeah, it just went into that.

SPEAKER_02

Where I was like, I think I had at one point, spoiler, spoiled it for myself. And I'll do that on purpose. Like, not I don't want like all a spoiler, but like that I saw, okay, it's a vampire movie. So like that's as far of a spoiler as I gave myself. But I I like to spoil myself. It doesn't spoil it for me. Okay, so that's why, and like I know I'm like different, right?

SPEAKER_03

But I'm like the only spoiler I got from that, and that was like after like watching like the ad for it, uh-huh, was somebody had filmed like inside the theater. Like we went and saw it like the third day it was uh uh, but somebody had leaked the the part where Haley Seinfeld is talking to Stack, and she was like, he's like, he's like, I also told you I also told you to get out of here and leave me alone, but like you know, but you didn't you didn't listen to that. And she was like, hmm. See, I heard what you said loud and clear, but then you stuck your tongue in my coups, and I was like, What? What kind of movie is this? And I was I was so excited to go skate from that point because I was like, it was okay, like whoa.

SPEAKER_02

I like now I have to watch it tonight.

SPEAKER_03

I fucking love that movie too. It's so much streaming somewhere, right? Yeah, it's on HBO Max. Oh, is it?

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we have HBO. Okay, cool. Yeah, I'm like, oh, it's so good.

SPEAKER_03

Fantastic. Anyone who's seen it, mostly everybody loves it. I've seen some people say that they hated it, and I'm like, okay, whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Well, clearly there's always a hater out there. Yeah, you can't make everybody happy.

SPEAKER_03

But but anyways, like moving on, like you know, full spoilers. Yeah, we get passionate about it, and you know, this is like a like a horror novel. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

And maybe make one day sensitive material cover smut horror. Maybe we'll write smut horror. Ooh, I'm cool with that.

SPEAKER_03

There's actually that would be yeah, because there's not a lot in that genre. I mean, there's like no dark romance, but like a horror novel. Like, I know, like, there's like one book, like My Soul to Take Take, I believe, by Harley LaRue. That book, I don't know if it was meant to be spooky, but it was spooky to me. Like the, like it's it's like a cult vibe, and then there's like and I'm not talking horror.

SPEAKER_02

It's not horror where it's like this serial killer and this serial killer have all this great sex serial killing. Like, I feel like that would be an easy out.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I will say the butcher and the blackbird, because there's like the butcher and the wren, but there's the butcher and the blackbird haunting Adeline is really good. I go back and forth on whether or not I like haunting Adeline just because to me haven't fucking finished it. It's it's so good. Yeah, it's where is that book? I think you have it.

SPEAKER_02

I think it's downstairs right there. Okay, I need to finish that fucking book. No, I'm gonna have to start all the movie again.

SPEAKER_03

It's good in the sense that like I love to see like the main, like the main male killer character killing pedophiles. Like that's awesome. Yeah, but there's like other stuff that I'm like, you know, and it's just me personally. Like, I understand how some people can use this book as like a healing factor, and so I'm not judging in that sense whatsoever. But it's just like to me, I'm just like like the gun scene.

SPEAKER_00

You're torn, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The the gun scene is where I'm kind of like I don't know what you're talking about. That's where I kind of draw the line. Yeah, you know, where I'm like, yo, like you you don't even know this dude, you know? Yeah, and I'm like, I don't care how hot somebody is, if somebody uses a gun on me, in me, it's still assault. Yeah, I'm not cool with that. Like, I could excuse the other stuff. And that's like unhinged me, could excuse the other stuff in the Halloween store. The workers will say, like, if they see a couple buying a ghost face mask, they just they look the other way as they like because they're like, I know what you guys are about to go do. Because there's like a whole fantasy that women have about the original ghost face, right? Uh which was Stu and Billy Loomis, like Billy Loomis and Stu Mocker. Obviously, like peak 90s, hot as hell, right? They're hot. But then, because like the whole the whole thing, like Skeet Ulrich, the guy that plays not good looking, in my opinion. I thought that peak Matthew Lillard was so hot. Really? Yes. And as this is where like the unhinged part of me comes out, where like as like a teenager, right? When you have those like feelings and you're like figuring all this out for the first time, something about Stu having his like head on like Billy's shoulder. What is wrong with me? These guys like murdered their friends, their girlfriends, like whatever. But like the two of them together, I'm like because you know it's a movie and it's fake. Yeah, I mean, obviously, like because like the the real story behind that is actually really sad and fucked up. And the movie, like they glamorized it. It's like supposed to be like, you know, the sexy, like, you know, they took like the like Hollywood's like most sexiest actors and put them in a single movie. And like, you know, they they literally they advertised the movie with Drew Barrymore on the cover. Oh yeah, for a reason because they knew that like Drew Barrymore is like the sexy. You know, young actress, she's gonna bring everybody in, and then boom, we kill her off in the first go, and then you're just like, What the fuck? But and then like Neve Campbell was like you're like hot porter of the holidays. Yeah, because she was like in wild things, and like that was like a hot movie, but that was the same lines where it was like murder, sex, like all this stuff. So it's like that shit sells. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And always will.

SPEAKER_03

It's always gonna appeal to like because there's so many people out there that make the right decisions, they don't do those things, they don't act out like on those like weird urges or whatever, which is good, right? Good for you. But then like you have to like there's some there let the scene out in a like a little bit. Like, like that's kind of like what the whole premise of like the the purge was. Yeah, you have like the one night to be freaky diggy do whatever the fuck you're gonna do, and then like everybody's like, oh, okay, I feel so much better. But that's where I think that this whole ghost face like fetish is. And then they can go back to pretending like that's not who they truly are all the time. Well, that's where like this fetish thing comes in with a ghost face mask. Whereas I never heard these girls, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So I'm like, it did my husband get looks and we didn't we didn't know about it.

SPEAKER_03

There was probably a thought because like it's been it's it's been like a huge thing for like the past three years.

SPEAKER_02

Where so what is it that the wives are having the husbands put the mask on and fuck them? That's it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's not even that kinky.

SPEAKER_03

It's a fucking mask. But it's the fact that like it's like the thought of the fact that like those guys were hot under the masks, right? And then they were doing these crazy things, but then like they had the mask on, and it was just it's just like the vibe, and it's like it like appeals to the darker side of you where it's like, okay, maybe I'm a like yeah, I'm a mom who gets my kids to school and soccer practice. I drive a fucking minivan. I need a little bit of like spice, right? Give me this like dangerous thing that's not dangerous. Like, I know my husband's not a dangerous guy, he's not gonna hurt me, he's not gonna do anything but terrible to me under the mask, but like the mask allows both of us to kind of like get some of that steam out. So you don't know what you get, yeah. Like you don't know, like maybe this does unlock like a more, you know, an animal, like a more like passionate animalistic side of like your husband because of like you would just laugh.

SPEAKER_02

I like I don't think I could hold it together because I would be like, Yeah, I can just envision it now because it's a two way. I think it would be so goofy, like, yeah, and then when it was everything's actually going on, I'd be like, I'm so fucking stupid.

SPEAKER_03

Like it's like a goofy thing though.

SPEAKER_02

Because I would rather just be kinky without the mask on. We don't need the mask.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't know. It's just like it's one of those things where it just like it's like that darkness thing that like you're accepting and you're cool with it, you know? Cause like obviously if a masked man breaks up into your house. Yeah, but it's like a different thing where it's like I think it's like the mask allows you to take on this like different persona. And then you're like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

It just unlocks something in you. When they put well, you're right, because there are like in the BDS BDSM porn, like real rough kind when those men like put on their like leather masks and stuff, and they're like, they are the dogs.

SPEAKER_03

They are like the yeah, that whole different personality. Yeah, and then like they take it off and they're just like Jerry that does taxes for a living, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Like a weed whack your lawn here, yeah. And so like, meanwhile, like you're like pegging your wife.

SPEAKER_03

You don't know, or your wife's pegging you, yeah. Like you don't know. And and like again, I'm not here to judge. Like, I'm not here to make anyone feel bad. I'm not here to the only time I'm like judging is like when you're like purposely hurting someone and they're not okay with it. Yeah, and they're saying pineapple and you're and you're not listening, or you know, like the child stuff, like that's not fucking okay, right? Like, that's where you're like, okay, yeah, I can't help you with that. You the only way I can help you with that is a bullet. Yeah, yeah. So, so yeah, but like, yeah, if you're somebody who likes to put on ghost face masks and I have never heard of that. Yeah, I'm like, you know, good for you.

SPEAKER_02

I would love to hear that story. I would have to choose a different mask, it wouldn't be ghost face.

SPEAKER_03

I just your face, baby. You hot. I like the ghost face thing because it's like the whole like I have charm on my keychain. My keychain, like my best friend Austin bought me this keychain because he knows I love ghost face.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and it's literally like it's like a shirt. I love ghostface.

SPEAKER_03

It's like this like muscled shirtless guy wearing like a ghost face mask, and he's holding like a strategically placed knife, and then it says wanna play a game. And I love that keychain so much just because it's like dirty. Yeah, I think it's kind of hot. Dirty girl. Spoiler warning.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, spoiler warning. Spoiler. We are gonna go fully in depth into this book and unpack it. I guess we could should well, we should probably start with. I mean, kind of going into part three.

SPEAKER_02

We should like spend more time looking at you.

SPEAKER_03

What is it like Labor Day weekend at this point? They've been kind of talking about Oh, in the book of like we are so far away from Labor Day. It's either Labor Day or Memorial Day, it's like one of those holidays. Yeah. And so they, you know, since the beginning of the book, the pl the family has been talking about coming together and doing a barbecue. And I think at this point, Cleo is done. Like, she's done with everything. She's been reading her mom's book, she's been having memories resurface, and especially where her dad is concerned, in her mind, she's starting to seriously consider the fact that, like, maybe her mom was right in some of these situations. I mean, she knows she was right about the demon at this point. Yeah, she knows that. But when it comes to the relationship that her mom and her dad had, and that her dad might not actually be this like super charming, charming, innocent. Attentive guy. Yeah. Yeah. And she's like, No, I know my dad's a good person, but when it comes to And he is a good husband to the stepmom. The circumstances around how they got together. Yeah, actually, it might actually be a little bit weird. At this barbecue, Lita is there, Daphne is working, so she's not there, and then so initially it's just the family, Lita and Tommy as his her husband. Yeah, Tommy is her husband. It's been a minute since we talked about this. And then what's her stepmom's name again? Amy. Yeah, Amy's there, and then her dad, and then Cleo. Yes. And so she at first she's kind of having a good time. She's like, it's summer, it's nice outside. I got this cute outfit on. I'm drinking vodka lemonade. And again, this is where like she like the family's starting to notice that she's following some of the patterns that her mom had, uh, which was like the drinking. But again, she's a young person. She's young, she just has no kids, she's single, she's like, she's just living her life. Yeah, exactly. She's just, you know. But as the you know, barbecue goes on, like, they are supposed to be expecting people later, but they're not like, you know, the friends of the family are not coming until a little bit later. But she's kind of sitting there. Lita's been kind of like just her usual bitchy self where she's just making comments here or there. So now Cleo's kind of getting out of like, okay, this is like I'm having a good time, and now she's like, okay, I'm a little, I'm annoyed. Yeah. And again, she feels weird being around her dad because her dad she wants to question.

SPEAKER_02

She wants to question him, but she knows it's not the right time or the right place.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and she also doesn't want to admit that she's reading the book.

SPEAKER_02

Obviously, like the less she gives a fuck.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and well, the thing too is like if she starts asking these questions, they're gonna know that she read the book, or they're gonna assume that she read the book because they never they had never had a reason to talk about it. There was never any reason. They all knew that Alex was this crazy, drunk, yeah, abusive woman. So there was no reason to like question anything. I would have just come right up, you know what?

SPEAKER_02

I found this book and I fucking read it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so she gets Amy alone. Yeah, and she's trying to fish. Yeah. Well, and because they were kind of talking about how she may or may not have a boyfriend, which is Austin. Right. And she's kind of like, he's not my boyfriend, like we just are hanging out, and like her dad seems like he's like pumped, right? Well, he was pumped about her to have having a boyfriend, but he's also kind of like doesn't want to think about the fact that his daughter's like having a casual relationship with a boy.

SPEAKER_02

He's like mirrored it out because casual usually means that's what I don't like about his character and his personality is the way that he looks at his daughters and treats them when it comes to sex and relationships, especially since he's one to talk.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly, which we'll find out in like just like a second, yeah. So she basically is like kind of asking Amy these like leading questions where she's like, Um, you know what? Maybe I should just get a boyfriend, but she's like, I just want to fall in love organically, like you and dad did, you know. You guys have a beautiful love story, that happened again. He found love after this horrific divorce, and Amy's kind of like and she's like trying to drink her her little spiked lemonade, and then Cleo just keeps going, like, right, right, Amy, you guys met you guys started dating after my parents got out of that. And she just like keeps poking and asking these like pointed questions, and then eventually Amy was like, I was young, okay? I didn't know what I was doing. Like, I can you ble like I was just I was so young, I was I was only in my 20s. And then she pretty much admits that they were having an affair before Alex and Cleo's dad got a divorce. And Cleo's like, cool, I fucking do it.

SPEAKER_02

And so I fucking hate both of you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so she's like, I need a break. And so she goes upstairs to her room and she's wanting to talk to her dad because she's she's like she's wanting to ask like certain questions, especially when it comes to how her mom behaved in those years when they were in that house, or the year, however long they were in that house until their dad took them away. Here comes Tiki. So she's trying to figure out like how to talk to her dad, and then she decides to kind of like she's like, you know, I'm gonna go find him and I'm just gonna talk to him before everybody else gets here. Let's bury this. And so she's trying to also like be a decent person at the same time. Like, she's like uh I command her especially when you have alcohol in your system to be able to have the forethought of all those because she's conflicted, like she's trying to also take like the the better route, but she's also like, no, there's actually a fucking demon in this house, yeah. And I kinda understand why mom was drinking so much, yeah. Right, and so she she goes to go find her dad, she goes to check his office, and she goes in there and she doesn't see him, and so she kinda is like I'm gonna snoop. So she starts snooping around the office, and what does she find? The other half of her mom's annotated book.

SPEAKER_02

Because at this point, she's read you know how betrayed I would feel in that moment.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, and there's something I also want to bring up and like go ahead and because she finds the other half of her mom's annotated book. Now remember, this book has gone out of print. It wasn't very popular at the time, like when she when she published it. Right. But it's really hard for Cleo to find just even like a single copy. It's not on Amazon, it's not like at Barnes and Noble, like it's nowhere to be found unless like she had to go on eBay to order a copy, which costs like a lot of money. But obviously, to her money's not a big deal. Did she ever say how much it was? Um, I know that she said that it was like a little more than she thought it was worth, but because she she finished the first half of the book. No, I know, but there was no price tag that I can recall. No, but she I do think she said that it was just like a little more expensive than she thought it should have been, but it is what it is. So she finds the other half of the book and it's the one that her mom had written in. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, but I mean the book that she bought on eBay is doesn't have her mom's writing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so that was something that she was like kind of bummed about was that like I wish I knew where that other half was because this is really all I have left of my mom. Whether I want to admit that I loved her or not, or that I missed her, or that I believe her or whatever. Like she wants to get to the end of this book and figure out like, okay, what else does she want to do?

SPEAKER_02

Where's our relationship at now?

SPEAKER_03

Where's the relationship at? Like, what else needs to be said? Like, what else is going on that I don't know from my mother's perspective? Yeah. Because remember, she's the youngest kid, she has like the least amount of memory about it. So she's like, so she's she's really wanting this other half of the book. So her dad catches her, and she's or no, or either he catches her or she goes out and she's like, bro, what the fuck is this? Yeah. And so she's confronting him, and he's like, You've been reading the book? Or you like you probably were in my yeah, you were in my study, you were in my office, you snooped, you violated my privacy, and you're reading the book that you promised you weren't gonna read.

SPEAKER_02

And then she's like, When oh, when I made a promise when I was seven years old. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

She's like, How are you gonna hold me to that? Right. And he like he's he loses his shit, snatches the other half of the book. Now, mind you, at this point, there's a shit ton of people at the house. All of the friendship. Everybody's arrived, and they're having this like public argument. Everything there's alcohol and everybody's beans. Yeah, and he takes the book and they had like a bonfire set up. He takes the other half of her mom's handwritten notes on her book that she left to Cleo and threw it in the fire.

SPEAKER_02

And she is dead, dead, and there's no more. It's not like when we find out later in the book about the other sisters, it's not like she wrote messages, like it is an individual thing. So that is so incredibly fucked. That is something that is unforgivable, in my opinion. Yeah, no matter how she views her mother after all of this, during this, before, during, after whatever, that is hers. That is some that there are lines you just don't cross, you know, and fuck that dude.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and the other thing too is because she she confronts him and she's like, So you did cheat on mom. And he's and he never he doesn't admit it at this point. No, and he's like, So you didn't read the book. He's like, So you are reading the book. This is why I didn't want you to have it because I knew you were gonna question everything. Yeah. And so then he like went and threw it in the fire. And so Cleo is pissed. She's she's obviously pissed. She she takes the fucking car, she gets the fuck out of it. Yeah, she leaves. She immediately is like, Well, I'm going to the fucking house. Like, I don't know where else to go. So she goes to the house, she gets there. The book that she ordered from eBay is there. So she gets the book from eBay that's it's on the porch. She grabs it, goes inside, opens the door, and mind you, she's devastated. Her, like the only other piece of her mom is gone. Uh-huh. And she has no other inside information other than what she's gonna have to read in this book.

SPEAKER_00

Oh god.

SPEAKER_03

And she's very wary, she does not. Yeah. Yeah. And so she goes, because she her mom did say that like she had to take certain liberties with the book. So there are some things that are like more embellished.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And so she also wanted to just hear it from her mother's point of view. Yeah. And so now she doesn't have that for like the rest of the book, which the rest of the book is very is very pivotal.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

And it gets into some crazy shit. So before that happens, though, she goes into the house, it's here, and it's watching me. Yeah. She can't see it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I just got to go.

SPEAKER_03

But then, isn't this like where she hears like the scratching on the wall? Oh, the long. She hears like this long scratching on the wall. She hears it behind her. She can feel like feel it behind her. Uh-huh. And she like puts the book on the counter, and then she turns around, and on the wall where she just got done priming, and like Austin had come over and helped her prime the house, and like she she's been working really hard at this point. We're gonna show you guys the video. Keep watching if it's not already on the screen right now, and you will see what it is. Left this big, like angry, like it's like a it's like a smiley face, but it's like a it's like a squiggly line like mouth like thing. So it's like what are you feeling, guy? My dude. And so Cleo immediately just like fuck this, leaves the book on the table and goes over to Austin's house for the night. And yeah, so Austin, you know, was like really sweet about it, you know, let her spend the night, but he's like, I gotta go to work. And so she's kind of feeling like things between her and Austin are shifting. Like, she's like, oh my god, am I being like annoying? Like, am I annoying him? And she's kind of like trying to be cool about it, but you can tell that she doesn't want him to be annoyed with her, not only because she needs like an escape from the house, but also because she's starting to like him. Yeah. She thinks he's a cool guy.

SPEAKER_02

It's very rare for her to like like somebody. Like, I feel like she's probably never liked anybody.

SPEAKER_03

She's like, she's like the equivalent of like the of like a bachelor, like you know, like a man that kind of goes around, like just dates, like un untethered, unbothered, like, but it's not even like she's like a hoe about it because like whenever she's had I think she's better than a bachelor because I feel like most bachelors they would have kept the girl in the cab on the way home to fuck her.

SPEAKER_02

Whereas she with Ethan was like, you know what, get the fuck out. Do you know how hard that would be for a guy to do that? As soon as he's like, Yeah, I'm getting my dick hard and sucked and fucked tonight, like you're coming. Do you know how hard it is for for that to not continue to happen? Yeah. The amount of control that Cleo actually displays is Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, she's just a happy, pretty substantial single woman who's just living her life, who's yeah, professional and her own capacity.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, I just love her to death.

SPEAKER_03

During the barbecue, Lita obviously finds out that Cleo's been reading this book because dad tells everybody. Lita and Daphne are pissed at Cleo, and Cleo is like the the effects of the house are starting to really get to her. And so she kind of decides, like, you know what, I'm gonna pause on the house for a week. Like, she had to go back into the city to do some work, anyways. But I wish she would have done that more often, yeah. But she spent a lot of time at the house because she's like, I just need a minute.

SPEAKER_02

I need to I literally cannot go somewhere else.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so she goes to the city and she actually meets up

Clio the Sociopath

SPEAKER_03

with like that Ethan guy. So, mind you, like at this point, she's like again, she's like she's like feeling weird about Austin. She doesn't want him to get annoyed with her, so she's trying to like be like, you know, blah about it. But he's like, he's not saying he's not interested in her, he's just like they're still very fresh, like you know, just only a few weeks, like maybe a month of like just casual hookups or whatever. But she is like the type of girl though that like instead of just admitting that she's got feelings for this guy, she's gonna go she like doesn't know what to do with herself. So she doesn't know what's weird about it, yeah. So she goes into the city, she has like a work event, and she kind of talks about like how in the influencer world, like everybody has their niche, she has her niche. She's got a couple friends who sometimes they make deals with like certain brands, and they know that the brands aren't that good. And so she's kind of at this point, she's cynical, she's like very cynical, she's just like annoyed, she's pissed, she's tired, she's grumpy, doesn't have the other half of her book. Things with her family are like getting back, her sisters are pissed off at her, dad's pissed off at her, like nobody's wanting to talk to her, and all she's kind of got are like her influencer friends, but then she's kind of drunk and tipsy, and then she makes a comment about this. One of her friends has like a pajama deal or something like that, but they know like it's well known in the influencer community that this particular brand has a shitty brand, and it's like there's like a rumor, like something that they just kind of like say is that it's made by like children in like a sweatshop. Yeah, yeah, and so she kind of makes a comment about like the sweatshop pajamas, which was made in like a group chat, and it just like this is I feel like in that moment, that is literally me.

SPEAKER_02

Because if I was her, I would have said that is totally something I would have said to the person by accident.

SPEAKER_03

So she they had talked about it, like about this friend and like that deal in like a different group chat. And so she just said it out loud, and like that friend was there. And she's like, my deal. That's fucked up. Like, I can't believe you would say that. And she's kind of like, Why? Well, it's true, you know. She's like, I mean, I already fucked myself, so like it's true. Yeah. And so she now her friends are like pissed at her.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we need which is like, why aren't you mad at the brand? Why don't you say something to the brand? Why don't you tell the brand, no, your money's not green over here? Like, yeah. Why are you gonna be mad at somebody?

SPEAKER_03

It just was funny. Suck. But like at this point though, Cleo's like going through it and every which way. To put like the coffin. The nail in the coffin, there's a situation that like she was like up on her roof smoking like a blunt or something like that. She said, like, it's her douchey neighbor who's like young and like he like lives off her parents' money. Yeah. And so he's like, Oh, I didn't know you could smoke up here. Yeah. It's a Neppo baby. But he's like, Oh, I didn't know you could smoke up here. And she's like, Well, you could do whatever you want for like the lighter. So she decides to go out like drinking, and then then she like runs into like that Ethan guy at the beginning of the book. And so she's kind of like self-sabotage, right? Where she's like, you know what, Ethan? You're coming home with me. And like, you know, they're kind of flirting back and forth, and then they get to her apartment building. And he's like, I swear to God, if you kick me out one more time, no more. Even since this is like the third. He's a good, he's a he's hanging in there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He's like, he really wants that.

SPEAKER_03

He he wants it bad. But they get to her apartment building completely on fire. It's on fire. And she's like, that fucking idiot threw a party on the roof, and him and his friends tried to start a fucking bonfire on the roof. And they set the roof on fire. In the middle of New York City. And they set the roof on fire.

SPEAKER_02

Do you know how much money and trouble? Could you imagine? Oh hell. Like he's he's getting arrested. Yeah. Not in the book, but I just like go real life scenario. And I'm like, there are people that would just like not make it out of that situation alive.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, and she's this kind of was like it her friends kind of felt bad for her. So they So then they're all of a sudden now they're potding. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They're like, oh, sorry. They like those are good friends. Okay, you know what? I'm I'm mad at you for saying this, like really honestly true thing. Yeah. That made me bruised ego. But like, forgive. Yes, come here, stay with me. All is well. I'm so glad that you're okay. Which she wasn't even there. Yeah. But they're treating her like she escaped death. Yeah. What I mean, she did, yeah. To a certain extent. But yeah, they're like, all is forgiven. We're moving on. She's tired of living with the friend with the baby.

SPEAKER_03

She cannot stand. Yeah. She's like, and she also just like feels bad. Yeah. But again, she's like, she's still a good person to her, but she's just like, she's just tired. And like her family is like kind of feeling bad for her. Like, you know, they're checking in on her, but like they're still pissed off and they're like, her dad was like paying for stay at like a at a hotel hotel.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But she's like, she's tired of living in the hotel, she's tired of couch surfing. And so what does the dad do? Do we know what the dad does? I forget. He works in some sort of like office setting. Like he makes good money, but I forget, like, it I don't know if they ever like specifically state what he does. Because then like, what does everybody wear? He does wear like a suit to work. So it's like he he does something like that, yeah. So so at this point, she is like, I'm gonna have to go back to the house soon. Yeah, she's like, I need to finish the work on it. She's dreading it, but she's dreading it.

SPEAKER_02

And she was like, This would be the perfect time for me to be like, you know what? There's too much going on, I can't handle the house anymore. And then nobody would question her integrity when it came to like doing this job that nobody wanted her to do in the first place.

SPEAKER_03

Cause she's like kind of at the point where she's like, I don't think I can.

SPEAKER_02

And honest to God, she should have done that. But then we wouldn't have this wonderful book.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So it's double-sided because I'm like, Chloe, just don't do it. Yeah, don't go. I would I would have been like, Yeah, you guys were right, I can't do this. Yeah. Maybe I don't say anything about the demon, but I'm just like, Yeah, yeah, this it was too much. I was overcompetent.

SPEAKER_02

Can't do it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh well, like I would have I would have ate, I would have ate what is a crow that day or whatever. For sure. Yeah, okay. I yeah, I can't do it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. And you know what? They really wouldn't have given her that much shit. I don't think so. No, I mean it literally might have you lost everything. Yeah. Including your home. Yeah. Yeah, I don't believe it. I mean, like, that was literally the perfect out. It wasn't even an out, it was like a realistic reason.

SPEAKER_03

It is. So, anywho. But I'm glad it didn't happen because, like, in part four, everything comes together and you're like, oh, okay. Which we'll when we get there, I'm gonna go off. Okay, because I'm a little bit pissed.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But so before we get there though, yeah, before she decides to go back to the house, we're about to have another fire is about to start. Yeah, because her sisters have some fucking balls on them, okay? Yo, Lita and Daphne both have some fucking balls because I'm gonna slap the fuck out of both of them. They decided to get her together for they want to get together for a lunch. Yes, like a I'm worried about you lunch. Yes, let's have an intervention.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And no drugs or alcohol intervention, even though they want to tell her she is drinking too much. Yeah. So, like, how about like how about the rudest intervention of all that you're acting too much like the person who carried you and bore you and loved you?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And we're not okay with that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they make those, like, they make those insinuations that she's behaving exactly like their mom did, especially in the house. Um, they are talking, like they're saying, like, you have no desire to love or be loved. Right. Like, that's not normal. That's what I'm saying. Like everything that you are sucks. And I will say Daphne is coming from a point a position of like genuinely caring, but Lita is just a find out she just wants to be. Yeah. Like, it's just Lita just wants to be right. Daphne genuinely, I think, is looking out for her sister because she's the only one that's been like, okay, show me what you've been doing with the house, you know, show me your Pinterest boards. But Lita is very much so like, fuck you, you made this promise, you broke the promise, and so she's just very pissed, right? And Lita's very much so older sister, yeah, mother henning, that type of thing.

SPEAKER_02

I don't even think it's mother henning, I think she's just a jealous bitch. Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, she's just she's just like, she was gonna hate her no matter what. Yeah, I can see just like what we find out later. It's not her fault. No, it's not. You can't change who you are, what you look like, how you socialize and interact in the world. Like some things are just you, yeah, and like you're her family.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, and so there was like a situation, like to put a pin in like this lunch, because there's a revelation that's made during this lunch. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But we have to kind of go into this thing. No, I'm sorry, because like I just remembered and I was like, oh fuck, that's right.

SPEAKER_02

So Oh, I thought you were already going to be able to get a lot there was totally interrupted.

SPEAKER_03

So there was a situation where part of what spurred finally their father getting permanent custody of all three of the girls.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yes.

SPEAKER_03

Was that Cleo had burns on her arms, yeah? And their mom was known to have like this hot pink lighter, and she used it to smoke cigarettes or like whatever. Or just toy. Just toy with it. Yeah, it was like a fidget thing for her. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. And so Cleo is like kind of again, like as she's reading the book, like that her mom left and like and wrote and everything, she's like her memories are starting to unlock bit by bit, and then being in the house, she's starting to remember certain things. Like, she'll step in a room and she's like, That's right, this is how this happens. Like, she'll have the yeah, it's almost like a like a vision, deja vu type thing.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, I've been here. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And so we're gonna go more in depth in like the book, too. Like, because you know, we get the excerpts from the book, but to briefly sum it up, there's a point where Alexandra sees Cleo at the table and Cleo is playing with the lighter. And at this point, which you know, kind of like to go ahead a little bit, the demon has attached, like we said back like in the other part too, that Father Barnes said that the demon has attached itself to Cleo. Cleo, and then it also likes fucking with Alexandra. Yeah. But it really likes Cleo. And I think it's because Cleo's room is like directly like under like the attic where it's supposed to live.

SPEAKER_02

Or maybe it's because she was so youngest.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she's just easily impressionable. I don't know. But all we know is that it seems to have like it likes Cleo. And so there's a point where like Alexandra believes that Cleo, and like we'll get to like what led up to that, but there's a point where Alexandra believes that Cleo was taken over by the demon because she saw her playing with playing with the lighter, and this is like a seven-year-old child. Like, if I should not be able to gave Whitney a lighter and told her, like, go ahead and light it, maybe she might get it, but it would take her a while. A while to get to that point. Yeah, but then Cleo was just over there, like Yeah, and she is burning herself.

SPEAKER_02

She is burning literally boiling her skin with her fucking hands.

SPEAKER_03

And Alexandra's like, what the fuck? Yeah. And so then it kind of like goes to like something else. Cleo is remembering, like, oh my god, I did that to myself. To myself. But dad was had it in his head that mom was doing this. Yeah. So how did And that was what that's what like steal the deal? Steal the deal that they are going, they are not living with Alexander anymore. That she was burning her own fucking chapels. And so she asks her sisters point blank. She's like, tell me about the lighter. Tell me about mom's hot pink lighter. Oh my god. And I get still my blood's like boiling for it. And at first, Lita and Daphne are like, Well, mom was burning you. And she's like, No. Is that what you were told? Is that what you were told? What you decided to saw. And they said, and like they're kind of arguing about it for a second, and then Lita finally is like, so what? We fucking lied. We did. We did what we had to fucking do. We did what we had to do. We talked to dad about it, and dad said that we needed to say what we needed to say to get us out of that house. And then it's like jaws drop. Yeah. And you're like, and and Cleo is like, you fucking liars. Bitch. You guys lied. This, everything else. Forget everything else. Forget the fact that mom was an alcoholic. Forget about like the knife situation, right? Yeah. Which we get we get clarity on that as well. Yeah. Forget all of that. You guys lied about something that you not only lied to like the judges and everybody else that was involved in this, but you lied to me. Yep. I was so young. I obviously blacked this out, right? But she and they said, Well, you know, mom's ravings and all this other stuff, it got to you. So like you couldn't help it, you were so young. And she's like, you don't even know that. Like, you don't know. You guys lied about something like that.

SPEAKER_02

You have no idea what would have happened or how it would have panned out or what kind of woman she could be. Like when we have a capable mind that is not a child's mind. Yeah. And you stole that from me. Yeah. And now she's dead.

SPEAKER_03

And she's never gonna get that closure. No. About like why her kids her kids love.

SPEAKER_02

And then the only closure she maybe might have gotten, her dad burned it in a bonfire.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And it pisses me off because like Lita is very much so like just she's a bitch about it. And Daphne is like, she seems apologetic, where she's like, Yeah, we fucked up on that one, right? Yeah. But there's a point where Lita is the one that throws around the word sociopath. And they like Lita says, you're a sociopath. Yeah, and me and Daphne agree. And Daphne's like, hold up. And then I never said that.

SPEAKER_02

I just fucking listen.

SPEAKER_03

She's like, stop armchair psycho psychology, you know, stop doing that. Yeah. Just stop. You're making this worse. Yep. Shut up. Cleo's like, fuck both of you. I'm leaving. Do so. Don't talk to me. Yeah. And so she goes to like the store. She buys a hot pink lighter. She gets some alcohol wine or something. Yeah, I think she she gets like, I think she gets vodka because like her mom made like I remember because she puts it in the freezer and then she's taken like shops. And yeah, and so she goes back, she's like, I have nowhere else to go. So she goes to the house.

SPEAKER_02

And this I'm sorry, but personally speaking, I would have gotten a hotel.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I would say in a hotel. Like if I have to go over there during the day to finish the work, she's so nervous.

SPEAKER_02

Like, there's no way I would have been sleeping in that fucking she had yo. She has some fucking gall and balls on her for real.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And so kind of closing out like that like situation. Like, she's at this point, again, her her sisters, the relationship with her sisters, it's all going to shame worse now. Yeah. And so she goes to the house, can't talk to her sisters, can't talk to her dad. Angry pissed.

SPEAKER_02

Hasn't seen Austin in a while. Yeah. She's hurt. She's she's mostly hurt. Obviously, she's angry. She's just confused. She's hurt. She's over. I could literally not just thinking about that. Like your mom and you could have had some type of other relationship if they hadn't liked. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And that means a lot to her. And that's where like her dad just keeps getting painted as like a villain in my head, where I'm like, fuck you. Yeah. And like at this point when I was reading the book, like, you know, we've since finished the book, and we'll talk more about it in part four about how that ends with her dad. But at like what I was thinking when I was like wrapping up this part was her dad has something to do with this. Oh. Like in my mind, I like kind of was like thinking like the Bewitching, where I'm like, he's a warlock. He said a demon, he said a demon loose in this, like in his ex-wife's house. He like, he he was so viscerally upset about taking them, taking them to church.

SPEAKER_02

So which you know what I still don't have closure on? Where did all of this like hatred for church come from? Is by for church and like for Alexandra.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And I guess like he does talk about that a little bit in part four. I don't recall very much. Like he he he goes very little into detail about it, but he kind of says some things about it.

SPEAKER_02

It's like you were married and you loved this woman and you loved her enough to have three girls with her. Three children with her. What the fuck happened?

SPEAKER_03

And Alexandra was supposed to be like this beautiful woman. Like she was very beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

Well, look at Cleo. Yeah. And like Cleo is supposed to be her spitting image. Yeah. I just wish I had a little bit more closure from the author's side of give us Alexandra's book.

SPEAKER_03

I would love that way to be able to do that. With the annotations.

SPEAKER_02

Fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. As like maybe like a little novella or something like that. Oh my god. Yeah, I would love that.

SPEAKER_02

I like literally, but I even want more than that. I want like the backstory.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Like, yeah, it could be like a like the kind of like similar to what we're doing here, but like.

SPEAKER_02

He hated you and loathed you, and he cheated on you, but like, why was he always just like a piece of fucking shit?

SPEAKER_03

And that's what she says in like in the book when she and like in the book. Well, yeah, when we get there for part four, right? Yeah, well, like in the first half of like the book. Yeah, well, in the first half of the book that her mom wrote, she was like, I was very generous with a lot of the interactions that I have with your dad and the stuff. I know, and that's why I'm so curious. Yeah, I wanna, yeah, I want more information on that. And I want more information on like dad and like why he was just such a dick. And yeah, it just it's there's a lot of teachers.

SPEAKER_02

If anybody's a sociopath, it's gonna be the dad. Yeah, absolutely hands down, 100%.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I think he's just a shit human being. Like, yeah, he seemed like a good dad for the most part, yeah. You know, but like as far as like a husband.

SPEAKER_02

No, we'll talk about that in part four because I'm like, are you? Yeah, you are to one of your daughters, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So, yeah, so I guess like now we should probably talk about like the book. Yep. And at this point, poor Alexandra's going through it. Yeah, and she's told by Father Barnes at this point. Father Barnes told Alexandra, yeah, you got yourself a demon. Uh before we could do anything else.

SPEAKER_02

You got yourself an infestation, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Of the highest order, the highest order. It's horrific. He's like, it's attached to you, it's attached to your daughter. Like it it wants, yeah. Father Barnes told Alexandra, you got a demon. Okay. You need to get the highest order. Yeah.

The Exorcism

SPEAKER_03

You need to get some second opinions, right? So he gives her the information for like a few different types of people. The first set of people that come through the house are kind of like they reminded me of Ed and Lorraine Warren and how, you know, obviously we love the conjuring Ed and Lorraine Warren. They were good people, they really wanted to help the people, like whatever. But the real Ed and Ed and Lorraine Warren were actually shitty people. Yes. And like, if you think about like the Amityville house, they went there and apparently they made it worse. Yes. And so they were just really shitty people. Like Ed was actually a pedophile. Was he really? Yeah. Are you fucking kidding me? That's a whole other can of worms. But yeah. Oh my god, I knew it wasn't a good dude.

SPEAKER_02

Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So, like, allegedly he had like a relationship with like their young nanny. Maybe she wasn't like a child, but I think it was just like weird.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, well, 17 is still a child. Yeah, it was like it was. I don't know why that number's popping up in my head.

SPEAKER_03

I just I just like would need to remember, like, I say pedophile because I know he was into like allegedly he was into the younger girls, but I don't know if it was like 100% confirmed. But he was just like pickies.

SPEAKER_02

You know how hard it is for us as like, okay, I'm obviously you're like a decade younger than I, but like I'm 37 years old. And for me to look at a child in high school now, to me, they all look the same. They look 12. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

If you're in the young, how do you it's like what my my husband always says from perspective? My husband always says, like, when guys date like younger girls, like even if they're like of age or whatever, like say like a girl's like 20, they're looking for that underage. Yeah, but like say the girl's like 20 and like the guy's like 40 or whatever. He's like, what could you possibly have in common with a 20-year-old person? Right, whether it's like a an older woman dating like a younger boy or man or whatever, or like vice versa. Like now it's one thing if you're like in your 40s and maybe you're dating like a 30-year-old or whatever, yeah. Like that's different because they've had a chance to live life and all this other stuff, but it's like, what do you honestly have in common with somebody who's 20 years old who is like probably still in college, figuring out like they can't even drink yet? Yeah, but honestly, what do you have in common with them? And this is also coming from somebody who like I love like the age gap romances, but that's like she's not 16 years old or 15 years old, you know? Like she's older, she's got some life experience, like she's living life, whatever, and then like oh, I know what you don't look at as like an age gap romance, but like Twilight. Yeah, that's like that's totally different though, because like Edward isn't, he's been 17 for 400 years. Yeah, she's like, How long have you been 17? He's like, a while. A while, and that's why it was Team Jacob because I I uh I am Team Jacob, and I know that a lot of people think he's problematic nowadays. I don't think he was, okay? No, he was just viscerally like he wanted his best friend not to be a dead, like to not be a vampire, to be like dead, and the and I'll and I'll be honest, I have a I don't like what Stephanie Meyer did with the whole like imprinting on Renezme. I can't even get into it, that's a whole other thing I need to get into at another time. Cause also, have you heard the thing that they said about how Twilight is actually a horror story if you read it from Charlie's perspective? So if you if you read Twilight from Bella's dad's perspective, that is a horror story. Your daughter that you haven't seen for years comes home, meets this rare this weird pale boy with his pale family members who are supposed to be his adoptive parents. Correct. But they all have like these weird, creepy eyes. She's hanging out with this dude. She she like the like not even a few months into them dating, she's she like like she leaves home. She's suicidal. Like when he leaves her, she like goes after him and like he she like falls through a window and like down the stairs and she breaks her leg. Like cuts herself open. Then she goes, like, she runs off to Italy, like to go do whatever she's doing with him.

SPEAKER_02

And then she just is like unhinged.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And then she gets married to the guy, right? Yeah. Has known him for less than a year.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Almost dies again. Almost dies again. And they're telling you you can't see your daughter. You have no idea if she's alive or if she's dead. Right? And then you see her again after this whole big scare, and she looks exactly like these motherfuckers. And none of them are blood related. And then the only ones that are allegedly blood related looks like exactly like your daughter. And she's growing rapidly. You saw her yesterday, she was three years old today, she's eight. What? That's a horror story.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's a horror story. If you if that was Kennedy or Whitney, you'd be like, what the fuck is going on? Oh my god. Stay away from my fucking family.

SPEAKER_02

And you can't do anything with them. Like, that's what's scariest about your kids aging out.

SPEAKER_03

Is that oh no, I'm sorry. If you're still going if if Whitney were to turn, I don't think she turns 18 until like after she graduates. She would well, no, actually she'd be 18 for the last bit of her senior year. But it's like you're still a high schooler. Once you graduate high school, you can do whatever the fuck you want. But up until then.

SPEAKER_02

For her last semester.

SPEAKER_03

But up until then, like you're in my house. I'm still paying your bills, right? Up until you graduate high school, yeah. Sorry. You're still gonna be at home in bed by like midnight, right? Like you got shit to do. Once you graduate high school, I'm literally do your thing.

SPEAKER_02

I can't even like I am not gonna be okay.

SPEAKER_03

No, I mean, and like I hope that we have like a good like relationship at that point. Because you know, like teenage girls, like by a certain point, we're like, fuck you, mom. Like, yeah, fuck you. And it's like, I hope to god I don't have that with my daughter, but I'm hoping that like we've established they come back around, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like they'll come back around like when they're like, in like their early to mid-20s, yeah, to be like, come back, like, oh, I'm so sorry, I was awful, like, yeah, what was going on, and it's like you're fucking normal.

SPEAKER_03

No, you're a woman, yeah. It's just women, but yeah, but anyways, getting back into it, yeah, okay, that was like so randomly over there. So, anyways, the Warrens, right? Yes, the like these people are not named the Warrens, but like they just reminded me of them because like it's like the husband. Yeah, because they kind of had like the same vibe where it's like they had like a young kid doing like the shooting on like the camera. Yeah, they had like he was like the intern or whatever, the wife.

SPEAKER_02

The girl that does the um, she's like a medium, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

She is like oh touching, and and then like the husband is like supposed to be this expert. And I think he had a cane too. Like he had like this weird yeah, he had like he's just like walked in the cane. And so immediately Alexandra's like, I don't like the look of these people. And she told them, I do not give consent for you to film my my daughters or my children. You can film everything else that you want, but you are not allowed to film like them out of the house.

SPEAKER_02

And so they were out on the back porch, right?

SPEAKER_03

But then caught them, they were interviewing. Well, that's I believe it was Cleo.

SPEAKER_02

Cleo left and ran inside for some reason. Probably a demon called her who's about to. I don't remember seven, you know. She, yeah, she got distracted, she ran in the house, and then immediately as soon as she was in the house, well, she was in the house.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they went in and they switched out.

SPEAKER_02

I thought it was okay because like she left where she was and came in the house. So we thought you like approved of it because here she is.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I'd be like, get your fucking shit out. We're deleting it now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And even Cleo, like, was like did not like these people.

SPEAKER_02

Like she was like, did not like them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. And there was a point where I think she even said that like it doesn't like you, or something like that. And then the wife does like this whole big like show of like being possessed, and she does like this whole thing, and uh Alexandra like pretty much kicks him out, like, get the fuck out. You're you're done. Yeah, and we find out that like the wife like played it up, like she didn't actually get possessed. Like the demon, at that point, the demon was like, I'm not fucking with these people, like the demon doesn't possess anybody. This is below me.

SPEAKER_02

Like the demon, if it's possessing anybody, it's gonna be Cleo.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then so then we get like another group of people that come through, and this one, these ones like kind of reminded me. I'm doing like real life parallels, but they kind of reminded me of like Ghost Adventures, like with Zach Biggins. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Where it was like a film crew, they had like this like show. They came in and they did this whole thing. Yeah, they did like the EVP, they did all of the stuff, and they were like, Yeah, you got yourself a demon too. And they're like, Well, highest order, yeah, we can help you out with it, uh, but you have to pay us like $4,000. Yeah, she's like, Bitch, I already paid you like $2,000. And they're like, and they're like, I don't know what to tell you. Like, I can't help you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, which is like super shitty because like you probably don't get into this business to make a buttload of money. No, and if you are, that's pretty fucked up because people are literally how more desperate could you get? Yeah, if you're poor, you need clothes, or you need food, there are avenues to get it. You've got a demon and you can't afford it, and there's nobody willing to fucking help you. Yeah, that's fucked up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. No, if I had something like that, like I would definitely just like help out of the goodness of my heart because it's like you know what I'm surprised Alexander needs to.

SPEAKER_02

She should have done it from the booth. Lit the fucking place on fire. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Or I would have paid like a hobo to come like set on fire.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Like, or like something.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, my house burned to the ground. No insurance.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, no, we gotta move. Oh, well, I'm definitely not gonna build here. Yeah. Place is haunted. There was a fire.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't know, dude. Yeah, anyway. And then we get like our saviors, we get the good people. So we mentioned at the beginning of the book, like the woman that came like sweeping out of the house.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And like her like robes and everything. They had like a film, like a guide that was kind of like their film person again. Now, this one, I'll say, like, again, like with the parallels, it's just like just to kind of paint a picture. Yeah, yeah. They kind of reminded me of the city. Well, that's why we do the AI videos. Like, it's like just nice to well, they kind of reminded me of like Insidious.

SPEAKER_02

Our take on like how we wanna Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know, in the movie Insidious with what was her name? Like the older woman that came through and she had like her little crew. Well, her nephew is none other than Roy, which ends up being becoming Alexandra's boyfriend in the future, and he's like her longtime partner. Mariella, yeah, Mariela. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So Mariella and her nephew Roy and their friend, I forget this this guy's name, but he's kind of like their other girl's name either. Yeah. So like they just had like a you know, like four people come in and they come in and they genuinely just want to help. They're like, Oh my god, this is bad. Yeah, like it's bad in here. Okay, we're going to help you. Yeah, we're gonna help you. And they're like good people, like they help Alexandra clean up the house. Like, Roy is very comforting towards Alexandra. Like, yeah, and so Alexandra, like right off the rip, she's like, I know my oldest two, especially the eldest one, they're gonna have something to say to dad about it. So she tells them, these are just my friends, they're gonna be hanging out with us for a little while. She doesn't explain why they're there or who they are. She just tells her kids they're my friends. Yeah, right. And Cleo, again, right off the rip, she's like automatically, she's like, I don't like you. I'm fishy.

SPEAKER_02

Or not, I'm fishy.

SPEAKER_03

Lita, Lita and Daphne are like meh, like go to the room, yeah. Like they they don't approve of it, but they're like, whatever. Like Father Barnes comes back into the picture, and so they're like, Okay, we are going, we need to perform an exorcism. We need to get this demon out of here. It's bad, right? It's attached to you, it's like starting to get like more violent. Really loves Cleo. Like, there was a point where Alexandra had like experienced sleep paralysis and it's like storming outside, and she feels it, and it's like coming to her, and like it's like really bad. Like, it's like a really shitty night where she's just like terrified, she can't move, she can't do anything, and then she comes out like the next morning, and she's like, Man, that was a crazy storm, wasn't it? And like she goes outside bone dry. There was no storm, there was no thunder, the kids didn't hear anything, and it just like you know how fucked so bad. Yeah, yeah. Can you imagine? Like, you think it's just like storming so bad? No, no, it's just the the way that this demon just happened to fucking fuck with you. So nope, yeah. So they get all their shit that they need to do this exorcism, and again, like Roy and her are getting closer, you know. He's offering little tidbits of like comfort, and she's just kind of like, I really like these people, these are just good people, they want to help me, they aren't trying to take advantage of me, they didn't overstep when it came to the girls, they're not trying to like rape me for every dime that I have. Yeah, she said, like, I have no money, and they're like, We don't want your money, we just want to help you. We want this to go away.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like that's how it should be.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and like these people are really good people, and so she's like, Okay, like this is gonna be over soon. Thank God. Yeah, yeah. So she's like, Okay, cool. I will schedule. So she asked her ex-husband, she's like, Hey, can you take the girls for an extra weekend? You know, he's he's always like chomping at the bit to get the girls, he wants them out of there all the time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he doesn't want her to have them at all.

SPEAKER_03

But wait. So when she's like, okay, fine, if you want to take the girls for an extra weekend, take the girls this weekend, right? And at first he said yes. And then when it comes time, she's like, Hey, where you at? Are you gonna come and get comedy?

SPEAKER_02

I thought he meant like the next weekend.

SPEAKER_03

And she's like, No, but that was already your weekend.

SPEAKER_02

We literally talked about this.

SPEAKER_03

And he's like, I can't drop everything. He's like, I planned this because it was your weekend with the girls. He's like, This is what I'm talking about. You're so irresponsible, and you, and like you, this and that. And he just like berates her, and so she's like, No, it was his that was his prerogative the entire time.

SPEAKER_02

Like, oh, I'm gonna say, Yeah, absolutely, da da da da. And then I'm gonna make you seem like you're not a fit mom because you can't watch your children when you're supposed to have time with your children, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And he, dude, I'm just saying, like, he pissed me off, and this is where again, I just kept getting that feeling that he's behind all of this. He's gotta be behind this somehow, or he knew and he didn't care.

SPEAKER_02

Like he was also thought that it was gonna fucked up that like he has to know it's real, and to do that, okay, to put your children in harm's way, just to prove a point. You used to love this woman, you loved her again so much that you married her, and you had three. You loved her so much you had three children with her, and you're telling me now you're willing to watch her literally struggle through this and put your children in harm's way for to look good in front of a judge to get full custody of your children, and like, and then why? Yeah, why do you hate her so much so much? I don't get it, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because there's nothing and that's where I'm like there's nothing that she deserves he because he had that last half of the book, and this is where we really start to see more of like Alexander's. Because you know what? I bet you Alexander wrote some shit in there.

SPEAKER_02

He knew like I bet you we were gonna see some fucking dirt where it's like because you know how it gets. Like, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_02

I know we're gonna like cover this in part four, so I'm not gonna say anything more than what you're you know what I'm insinuating. But it's like, I don't know, I think it would have been a straight write-off. And like she would be peaceful about it. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Because he's not a good guy.

SPEAKER_03

No, he's not, he's not like even, yeah. I will I'll I'll share that opinion when we get there. But so they get they get prepared for this exercisment, and she's like, I have my daughters, like I don't we what are we supposed to do? Yeah, and they said, Here's what we'll do. So they go and got like a bunch of activities for these girls. They got coloring books and magazines, and they went like these people themselves went out and bought books, snacks, they went and got like all of these special things and gave them to these girls, and they had them sit on the porch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like it's gonna be a long day, you're gonna be out here all day.

SPEAKER_03

So, and the way that they said it, like you know, they they could not have those girls in there because they were at risk of being hurt. And so they said, Okay, or we we really cannot wait any longer. Yeah, like if we let this manifest even more, it'll get to a point where we can't like there's literally nothing that will help. And so they they set these girls up and like in like in the past couple parts, the Daphne and Lita did mention that like mom locked us on the back patio all day while she like had like this exorcism with her friends, and like and and they they look back on it like as like just like it was shitty, it was horrible, like that sucked, like whatever. And Cleo's just kind of like, I don't really remember this, but she's like, Okay, so she's reading through this book, and we get to the exorcism. Oh god, and they do this thing, you know, where they have like they have like the candles, they have like their guy filming and like recording, and then they have like their holding hands, and they start saying what they need to say to like kind of bring this demon forward to do the exorcism. And Mariella had sprinkled baby powder, she's like, I don't worry, I'll clean it up, you know. She sprinkled it by the stairs, like it just like various places, and gives me chills. Yeah, and so this is bad. They get started, and then Cleo just opens the door and just walks in. And Alexandra's like, get the fuck out, like get out, dude. All hell breaks loose.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and at this point, I literally have chills because I'm like, oh so she carries her like coloring, but she's like, I'm sitting here.

SPEAKER_03

She's and she's like not leaving, like she's being very warm. And then Roy's like, he's like, Okay, come here, Cleo. And he's like, wait a minute, like, because it wasn't coming forward, like the demon wasn't coming. But it really liked it was like Clio came in there. The demon was like, Hey, is that my home?

SPEAKER_02

Interactive, it's not my home girl.

SPEAKER_03

It's not my puppet. Yeah, he's like, Is that my home girl? Okay, I'm coming in.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I can make myself known.

SPEAKER_03

He comes in and they're like, Oh, it's here, you know, they're it's here. And let me actually see if I can read. Because like, this is where like it gets bad, yeah, it gets so bad.

SPEAKER_02

This is where shit gets like the realest. Rachel, you did a phenomenal job. So good. Like the writing teleports you, transports you you're there in the house and you're haunted, and you want to escape. I have chills.

SPEAKER_03

It's gonna kind of like go through just like a little bit, but so like Cece comes into the house, mom is like, get out, and Cece's like, it's hot out there, and she's like, Cece, I repeated my tone sharp. It doesn't matter if I'm in here or out there, it won't change what happens.

SPEAKER_02

So Roy is kind of like, What the fuck did you just say?

SPEAKER_03

So, oh, they had like bells up too. So Father Bernard took a deep breath, opened his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted by the chime of a bell. The sound echoed through the house. And then Cece just kind of is like, you know? Yeah. And so at this point, their friend Ruth, so Ruth is the one that has like the abilities to like feel like what's going on. Yeah. She starts to like sweat and she starts to like she has like go through physical ailment. She's retching, she's like, it looks like she's about to like throw up and she's not. She's like getting, she's getting really like bad. And then oh, and then it's like you're sick. Jed is like their equipment guy, so he's like wearing headphones. And then he he starts going through it. He starts like he almost is it death, deafening. Yeah, so she so like Ruth is like her eyes are white now. They're like, it's okay, this is the the process, just leave it, leave her be. And she's fine. Like Roy is kind of like talking to Cece, and he's like, Cece, like, what's going on? What does it want? And she's like, Don't talk to her, don't hurt, don't involve her in this. Yeah. Cece's just coloring. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But Alexandra, she should have just yeah, she's covering forewarned a little bit more, I feel like. She had no idea what this process was gonna entail. In the way, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So she's like, so at this point, like bells are ringing, Ruth is over here, like fucking like seizing. Roy is like trying to kind of use Cece to like CeC, but Cleo, because she changed the names for the sake of the book. So he's talking to Cleo, trying to get her to like maybe bring it out more so they can get rid of it. And Alexandra's like, don't fucking involve her. One, she's fucking.

SPEAKER_02

This is over. We gotta go. We gotta stop. And he's like, it's like we can't stop. We've already started, there's no stopping it. Yeah, it's moving, and then the equipment guy is like shrieking in pain. Yeah. Because what was it, the demons laugh?

SPEAKER_03

Uh so is that what it ends up being? So the ringing in my ears wasn't the bells, the bells were quiet, everything was quiet except for the laughing, and then dead. So there was like demonic laughter happening.

SPEAKER_02

But it makes it make the doors opening and shutting for Clio, because Clio can hear the laughing and be okay. But anybody else who hears the demons laugh, it like Yeah, it's hurting their ears. It makes you viscerally ill and like almost deaf. Yeah, I think, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And so then, like, there's like a point where she's like, she's like screaming at it, like, get out of my house, leave me alone, get the fuck out of my house. She's like going upstairs to like Are we talking about Alexandra? Yeah, yeah, to like leave, like fuck off, like get out of here. She's too demon. To the demon. The demon is just like fucking finds is hilarious. And she hits, like, she falls on the landing and hits her head on the brick floor. And then she knocked out. No, but she was like, she like it did go black for a second, but she's like, whoa, my head is fucking like yeah, I'm feeling a little woozy here. Yeah. She's also drunk. Uh, yeah. So and then like at this point, like it just gets it gets bad.

SPEAKER_02

And um, could you imagine if this is like a movie or a TV show and it's just like going from like one person to the next in this like chaotic world when it's like a tornado, but like going through different viewpoints, and everybody's like, Yeah, I just see it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then poor Jed. So Jed is like trying to take off his headphones, but like they keep snapping back onto his head. He's no, because the demon wants him to hear it, yeah. It's like and his fingers are slippery with blood like coming out of his ears, yeah. Father Bernard is like useless, he's just kind of standing there like he like doesn't know what to do because he's like, This is like the worst I've ever seen. And the girls at this point are seeing all of this chaos, and they're standing outside like terrified, devastated, like what is going on? Yes, and then and like Leo's in there, yeah, and so they're worried about their sister. Yeah, so Jed's ears were charred and blistered, spewing crimson everywhere. He's like not a good time, he goes to walk, falls to the floor. The girls are screaming. She says, they scream so loud I thought they'd shatter the glass. Cece is unaffected, gave me that same smug look she had when she first came in. The raised eyebrows told you so. Alexandra calls 911 at this point, like, we need help, right? And then he says, so then Roy Roy caught her by the arm, and he's like, Wait, this is what it wants. She says, He's hurt. I tasted blood in the air, I smelled sulfur. This is a disaster. It's disrupting, he said. I pulled free of Roy's grip. Disrupting what? It won't go, Ruth said. Her voice raspy. It wasn't her own. Don't let it in, Ruth. Roy said, Don't listen to it. Two, her eyes rolled to the front. She looked at us, looked at me. Too late. Her head flew forward, bashing into the table. There was no time to react before it happened again and again and again. Yeah, so she's just like at this point. Father Bernard is like, the power of Christ compels you, get out of here. And then it just it was so bad. And then she clawed her eyes out. Eyes out. Clawed her eyes out of her freaking head. With her own fucking with her fingers. She's like, the noise was terrible, ripping wet. At this point, they sent two ambulances that arrived mercifully within five minutes. Still, it was the longest five minutes of my life. Ruth and Jed bleeding on the salty carpet, their bodies eerily still. Breath shallow. Father Bernard continued to pray, but without his former gusto. We were defeated handily. So the girls are devastated. They're all crying except for Cleo.

SPEAKER_02

Cleo's fine.

SPEAKER_03

Cleo's fine. Like the girls are hugging her and she's just kind of like standing there. Like she's like, Yeah. Why is everybody like so sad?

SPEAKER_02

Like, why is everybody upset?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And then this last interaction between her and so between Alex and Cleo. So are you okay? I asked her. Yeah, are you? I would later find out that I had a concussion and two bruised ribs for my fall. No, I don't think I am. And Cleo says, seven-year-old Cleo says, play stupid games, win stupid prizes. What? I asked. She repeated herself, speaking slowly this time, enunciating each word.

SPEAKER_02

Play stupid game. Game. Win stupid prizes.

SPEAKER_03

Alexandra's like, where did you learn that? She's like, I don't remember why I heard it. Like Taylor Swift was not out then. But she's like, but she's like, but I thought about it today. I'm sorry you're sad, but you should have left it alone. Cece, what's going on with you? I asked. I hadn't yet exhausted my tears. Why are you speaking to me like this? Why did you say that thing earlier about me dying in the house? So earlier, Leo had pulled Alexandra aside and she's like, It's okay, mommy. You're gonna die here at like one point. And so Alexandra's like, What the fuck does that mean?

SPEAKER_02

And then she goes, Well, don't worry because like I'm gonna die here too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and Alexandra's like, what the fuck is going on? So yeah, that's how that's how that happens. That happens with the book, and that so Cleo does say she's like, Okay, I remember like the exorcism, right? In quotes. I remember the exorcism, but she's like there were no ambulances that showed up. There were no, it wasn't bloody screaming. She's like, I don't remember any of that. And even like her sisters like are like, no, like nothing like that ever happened, right? It was just mom getting drunk with her weird friends, and she's just like, so Cleo's like what the fuck happened? What actually happened? Yeah, because this doesn't sound right. I don't remember any of this. This does this doesn't I wouldn't remember ringing a bell. I would have remembered bloody charred ears and ambulances showing up. And somebody clawing out their fucking eyeballs. And like this, she read this part before she did go see her sister's room at lunch. And so she's she's just kind of like, what am I supposed to believe? Like, what am I supposed to I I don't understand why I don't remember these things as my mom wrote them. And she's like, I do know that mom did have to embellish these some of these things, but she's like, that's a lot of embellishment. That is a lot of extra things put into this story.

SPEAKER_02

And like so which and her what is the truth, exactly. And when her mom embellished, like it wasn't that over the top, like it'd be like out of a 10, it would be like a five out of ten. Well, like yeah, she didn't write.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she didn't write about like in the book how she actually slapped Daphne, right? Right? Like, I'm not gonna write that into a book, right? Like it's shitty that she actually slapped Daphne, but she and she does say, like, I'm gonna I I will regret that for the rest of my life, right? Yeah, so you're just kind of left like okay, come again. Like, because you are kind of like, okay, Cleo's losing her shit. Like, either she has such like this traumatized her so much, like maybe this really did happen. Yeah, and she's so traumatized that she just like completely rewrote it, or her family were so good at like brainwashing her because she was so young to forget these things, you know, like even thinking or like we never talk about it ever again, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then you kind of wonder one day, yeah, like did I have a did I dream that? Was that even real?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, there's I can remember as like from a seven. Yeah, I remember I don't remember details, yeah. But you remember like the big stuff, like you know, like the really big memories, and that's a really big memory.

SPEAKER_02

But that's where a lot of like computing and processing and like storage for a seven-year-old.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so that's also where like Cleo's just kind of like, I don't I don't remember that. I just don't like that's like a really big thing to forget, yeah. And so so yeah, so that's kind of like where we leave off with that part, but that shit was wild when I read that.

SPEAKER_02

I was like crazy, bro. Yeah, I needed I needed time to process that chapter.

SPEAKER_03

That was like the craziest thing, and it it was good, you know, it was really good. And then oh yeah, and then in like the uh the footprints that were left, wasn't it like hoops? I think. Oh I don't remember that at all. I believe that there were footprints with it in like the powder, and I want to say it was like hoops, like that exorcism went sideways horribly wrong. And and like I said, so and like to kind of bring in like to like segment four with this, because while Cleo is reading all of this, remember her mom annotated the book that she was reading initially when she got this book from eBay, she had flipped through it, it was a little worn, but there was like no writing or anything like that on it. Right. But as she's reading. Oh, I forgot. Yes, there are so she well, as she's reading this book, she is noticing that there's little things written in the margin. And here's

The Demon's Annotations

SPEAKER_03

like just one. Uh where did I say? I just saw it. It says my house skin mine. Ew. What else does it say? It says some like pretty, pretty picky things. Uh need me.

SPEAKER_02

Need me, need me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It says also like my friend or something like that. Like it refers to, oh, there's like little grumpy face, like the same faces that it wrote in the wall.

SPEAKER_02

With the squiggly.

SPEAKER_03

With a squiggly mouth. Is there a way we can hold on, let me here, hand that to me here. Oh yeah. Let me like the selfless starve pick my teeth with their bones.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I know. I'm like, I'm gonna try this and see if yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Do you know how fucking creepy that would be? I would lose my shit. I would burn it. Yeah, I would burn the book. Yeah. So the so yeah, he is now annotating.

SPEAKER_02

Even the creeps I got when I was reading the book alone at dark, like just reading the book.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, this book genuinely gave me the fucking creepy. Yeah, I did too.

SPEAKER_02

I did lots of shakies.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it just was so good. And yeah, like the the way demon and like the finale, like when we get into part four, the finale of it all kind of go off. There's like more shit that happens with the family. The there's some other revelations made, believe it or fucking not. Like more shit comes to light. Yeah, it's just even more maddening and so frustrating and sad.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And you are truly just like, what the fuck is wrong with this family? Why is this family so fucked up to each other? Yeah. And then you kind of like, yeah, you have like your finale. Chloe asked, or not Cleo, Chloe. Clo Cleo. Holy shit. Cleo asked for some help from some some people. I just was like, Yeah. No, I know. Like earlier, I like because like I thought I heard something, did you? Yeah. Like I looked. Did you? I looked and I thought, like, see again, like I what's the cat doing? He's just being a cat.

SPEAKER_02

I know, but I thought I heard something. Oh, the window's open, so maybe it was outside. I think it was. I was like, yo, that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_03

It wasn't even outside. Oh, it was? It's outside, yeah. What's outside? No, I'm just saying, like, the noise you heard was coming. Oh, I was like, do you know what it is? Yeah. I'm just like so glad that I've been far away.

SPEAKER_02

I thought it was in the room.

SPEAKER_03

And I was like, Yeah, no, like because nobody's up here. It's outside. That's what we're going with. It was outside.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_03

Where I where yeah. Where I have to go when we're done with I'll walk you.

SPEAKER_02

I gotta get the mail.

SPEAKER_03

But um, but yeah, no, so this book is crazy. This part ended good perfectly. It really sets up for what's gonna happen next, and it's wild. Um, you guys have just buy it and read it. It is worth the read. Yeah, it's insane, it's funny at times.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just loved it. Yeah, it's nuance, it's nuance horror. Yeah, it was great. Yeah, I want to read it again. I really just think she's just a great author.

SPEAKER_03

Like I said, such such sharp teeth such sharp teeth was her werewolf book. Yeah, I need to read that. It was really good because it's like from the perspective of like a female turning into a werewolf, which like you see rarely, I feel like. Yeah, and I loved it. It was really good. It's like a good story.

SPEAKER_02

Hope I didn't piss you off. I loved it, Rachel. Sorry that I made my own little AI videos, but you know, yeah. I hope you watch this and I and I hope we're doing your book justice. Everybody out there, go buy it. I'm not feeding anybody's work into AI, I'm using my own words. We just want to tell a little bit of a visual story, and I like what we're doing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But we love your book.

SPEAKER_03

This book is amazing. I'm definitely gonna pick out some more of her stuff because I loved such sharp teeth. I love play nice. I need to give that a read. So I can I can let you borrow it if you want to.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. There's like a couple others of hers. I I know I want to do like I think it's called So Thirsty or something like that. Oh, I heard that one. Yeah, and then I think she did Cackle as well. So I feel like she's kind of that one is real big, right? Yeah, because she's that one the one that's every little thing. I think so, but I didn't start off with that one, so I didn't really know about that one yet. So, yeah. So, I mean, just based on the books that I've read, like everything. Like it sounds like cackle will probably be Okay, so werewolf, Demon, Witch. I'm assuming that's what cackle is, witchy. I don't know what the premise would be. But I just figured like cackle, I think witchy. Yeah. And then So Thirsty, I'm pretty sure it's like vampire. Yeah. That's what I'm guessing. I just I don't know. Ooh, I love that. Yeah, so yeah, I'm really excited to read more of her of her work. It's just so good. Yeah. And it's modern we love, yeah. Yeah, like I love like the I do like we're girls, girls.

SPEAKER_02

Like we really like to support women.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And especially feminist horror. Women in horror. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

There's a book that I just bought, and I'm hoping that we can include it on our June. I mean, we will. It'll be one of my two to vote for, but by Monica Kim, the oh my god, what is it called? Mulka. Something like that. Mulga.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think so.

SPEAKER_02

Mulka or something. Anyways, I'm gonna wait to see if it gets voted in, but like I'm super excited for her too. And then our other one, Johanna, Johanna Van Veen. Oh my god. I want to look at her. Those will be my two: the Monica Kim book, and then her other book. Yeah. I'm kind of going for maybe you'll go for her other.

SPEAKER_03

I was thinking that or like summer slasher, because like oh yeah, June is perfect. It is, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And we already have July, August, September mapped out. So which we're excited for.

SPEAKER_03

I'm excited for that too when we get into June is kind of like our last like choice month for a little while until the fall. Yeah. But the next series that we're gonna have coming up is gonna be so.

SPEAKER_02

I cannot believe that after our June poll, we won't have other options until fall, and it's not even that far away.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, we could always try to read on the side and maybe do like updates through like when we do those episodes, you know. But like, oh, by the way, we also read this and that, whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then just depending on how our summer actually goes, we might have we should be able to have more time to do that. Yeah, because we won't have to do that. So maybe we can do two books a month.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

For like I mean, we pull it up a little bit so with all the crazy. And it really wasn't that much worse. Yeah, we're just getting better at it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, maybe that's something we'll kind of include, you know, the next time. So, like as we go on and we get better at everything. Cleo is officially alone. Her apartment is gone, her family thinks she's dangerous, and the demon is the only one talking to her through the pages of her mother's book.

SPEAKER_02

Next week we reach the finale. Will Cleo find her way out of Edgewood? Or is the demon's prophecy about to come true?

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

Ew. And if you're feeling like someone is scratching at your walls tonight, maybe don't look. That hits home for me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man. Thank you for joining us in the dark. Sleep well if you can. And remember, some stories are meant to haunt you. Bye. Bye.
