We go back to the workroom. What's good, y'all? That's right. It's me, Jack, and Krista. And we are back, back, back again for the 14th episode of Run on Sentence.
SPEAKER_03Woo!
SPEAKER_00You know what? And another thing. Well, y'all, here we are again. Another day, another episode in a new recording space. We are here in Krista's bedroom. Thanks for having us, Krista.
SPEAKER_01Anytime you're always welcome in my bed, Jack.
SPEAKER_00Stop. I'm blessed.
SPEAKER_01Whatever recordings you want to do.
SPEAKER_00Yes. We are in Krista's beautiful pussy pink bed. This shit is so cute. I am so obsessed. It's very like 80s. How would you describe it? This is very your style.
SPEAKER_01Um, to me, I would say like grandma core kind of, you know, golds and whites and pinks. And like, really, I found this headboard and like I kind of had in my mind like what I wanted this to look like. But once I found that, I was like, oh, we're going all in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we gotta go full speed. Stop that train, baby. Stop that train. Uh no, but we're giving Charlie in the Chocolate Factory grandparent realness today in this in this little bed get up. Uh, very excited to have you on the pod today, Krista.
SPEAKER_01I'm honored to be here. Gerald!
SPEAKER_00Oh, you wanna stop that? Lil Kitty is nibbling on the core, baby. She wants she has something to say. Well, Krista, you are a big fan of the pod. You follow along every week. One of my OG fans, and you know the drill. Let's jump into some of these segments. What's new, Jackie Pooh? I'll let you start off. What's new with you, Krista Pooh?
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, the biggest thing this week is being on this podcast, highlight of my whole week. And some other things that is going on is me and my husband, Rob, are renewing our upstairs bathroom. As you just saw, it is all torn up.
SPEAKER_00I went to go take a pee break and I almost went through the floor. There's nothing there.
SPEAKER_01Some plywood on the floor. And so, you know, we have our tub and I have my vanity, and I went out and picked out some tile. And I love it. If you could guess what color I picked, I'm gonna say black. You know, I mean it is my favorite color, but I did decide to choose pink. So I have a nice like peckle or speckled pink for the floor, and then I have like a pink subway tile that's gonna go on the wall, but I think I'm gonna do them vertical. Not sure. I I have to like, you know, figure out what I want to do with that.
SPEAKER_00I know very much so.
SPEAKER_01And also, I put in my industrial bar recently. I did get it done.
SPEAKER_00That shit looks so painful when you did it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it is, trust me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I had gotten it pierced like years ago, and it was just like literally constant pain for like two years. So if anyone is thinking about getting it, just get two individual piercings.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Then get the bar. So I was just like done with it. I took it out, and it's been like four years, and you know, it was a struggle to get it back in, but I powered through and it hurt for a couple days, and now I'm perfectly fine. So I'm back in the game, the industrial bar.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, cartilage piercings in general are like rough. I only have one cartilage piercing. I got it in 2016. I actually got it with Lydia. Shout out, Lydia. She was like, We have to watch it.
SPEAKER_01Whenever you decide to start watching this.
SPEAKER_00Whenever you actually decide to start watching this, she was like, We should go get matching cartilage piercings. We go. I sit down in the chair. I'm like, why aren't you starting to wave or two? And she no, she backed out. She waited until I got in the chair to be like, I'm actually not gonna get it, sister. But she already had her industrial at that point. Like, it wasn't like she wasn't.
SPEAKER_01Well, she knew the pain. Okay, I guess she knew the pain around too.
SPEAKER_00I gotta say, my cartilage piercing really wasn't that painful. I didn't even know the guy was putting it in. I he literally was like, All right, hold on for a second. And then he's like, Alright, I just gotta pull the ring through. And I was like, What do you mean? He was like, Well, I did it already. Like, I had no, I thought he was just like grabbing with the clamp, the pain. So I didn't think it was that bad. The healing process after it was like a little painful. I got a little bit of a keyloid, like it they are, you know, a bitch to take care of, but I I my intention was to get two stacked on top of each other. I'm glad I didn't because if I got them both at the same time, the keloid probably would have been like Eliza Sue from the substance, like monstrous. So uh, but yeah, like any cartilage piercing is no joke. So I don't know how you shoved it back into like a semi-open hole. Like you're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_01Well, I just put like a little earring to see, you know, test it out if it was still there. And I was like, Oh, it's still there, but like that was not the same size as the industrial bar. Was no, it was not not enjoyable.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's all that's new with you. New bathroom reno, new piercing. Well, not new piercing. When uh what's the RuPaul song? New friend's silver, old friend's gold. Your old friend. Uh well, I mean, nothing's really new with me. I just worked all week. I didn't do anything new and exciting.
SPEAKER_03The only I did work as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. The only thing new and exciting coming up. I'm going to Broomfield, Massachusetts with my dad next week to the Broomfield Flea Market. Super excited about that. Yeah. Uh I've been once before.
SPEAKER_02He really wants to go.
SPEAKER_00It's intense, girl. It is a little overwhelming, honestly. I went one time like two or three summers ago with my parents, and then they went again last year by themselves. And it is a lot to take in. It is like an entire town that turns into just one gigantic fucking flea market. There is like multiple fields that open up, like some. There's different types of vendors that specialize in different things. So like they pick their plots in those specific fields. Like, there's my dad is big into old wood. Big old wood. Do you remember my dad loves big old wood?
SPEAKER_02Loves that old wood.
SPEAKER_00Uh, so he likes any like rustic, worn, weathered wood anything. And there's like a whole field where it's like that type of that type of shit. So uh, and then there's you know, more of like a clothing field, there's more like chotchkey. I don't know, there's I there's just too much to take in. It's like a whole week or like extended weekend that they open. I think they do it now, and then they do it like middle of summer and then end of summer. It is something you need to dedicate at least two days to if you're gonna see even like enough where you feel like you saw the whole thing, even though you're never gonna see the whole thing unless you spend like every waking moment of the entire scheduled time that it's gonna be open. It is it's a lot of fun. I'm excited. It's just me and my dad going, which I'm very happy about because me and my dad will take the time. Father son bonding, little bonding trip. Um, but you know, my mom will get like tired of it, not want to walk around too much. My brother would like be fed up and be like, can we go get lunch? So, like me and my dad will spend like sunup to sundown hoarding and uh like pillaging through everything. So very excited about that.
SPEAKER_01Make sure you bring a big wad of cash.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know, right? I gotta like I need more shit though. Speaking of, that's a good segue into our hoarder haul for the week. Um I'm gonna be having a hopefully a beautiful, gorgeous, stunning hoarder haul next week with whatever I find. Hopefully, it is a mountain of stuff. I mean, again, I don't need anything new. And this is I don't know how much like physical media there'll be there, probably not too, too much. There's usually some good like vinyl booths and maybe some CDs, but uh we'll see about that. But I did find a bunch of good physical media this week, but I'm gonna start off with the elephant in the room for my Hoarder Hall, my beautiful brand new microphones. If you are watching, you can see them here. Uh, I got two shore microphones. Uh, if you're listening only, hopefully you can hear a spike in the audio quality. I bought these on TikTok shop. These are like the brand that you see, I would say like 95% of podcasters using. At least if you watch podcasts, these are the ones that they all seem to use. They were on sale on TikTok shop, but shipping directly.
SPEAKER_01That's the place to shop, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00Seriously. Uh they were shipping direct from the shore website, though, so I didn't feel nervous and like sketched out that it was going to be a scam. Uh, but I've never had a scammy situation on TikTok shop. It is really streamlined and they do they do good work, you know. So I got these a couple of days ago. We just spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out how to record two microphones. Yeah, thank you, YouTube. Um, you know, trying to record two lines at the same time, and I think we figured it out. Hopefully it goes off without a hitch. If it doesn't, we're fucked because this episode is going to be ruined. Uh, but I think everything is settled and in order. I just really appreciate my friends that have come on so far and shared the microphone with me. But it is really tough to have a conversation and like have a back and forth with sharing a microphone because one person has to finish their thought and complete their sentence and then pass it off, and the other person has to like do their best to volley and like touch on things that they might have talked on earlier in their conversation. But you know, it's you can't really have a conversation when you're passing the torch like that, you know. And uh, who has the talking stick? You know, it's uh it wasn't viable for the long-term use on the podcast. So hopefully we see a difference with this. And another beautiful electronic that I bought this week. I have been on the hunt for a long time for a kitchen TV. I've always wanted a really cute small CRTV super 90s coded. I have a bigger CR TV in my room, but it's just too big to keep in a kitchen, and I want that like in my room to watch movies with. So I've been hunting on Facebook Marketplace for a long time. I finally found the perfect one. It is tiny, it just has a DVD port, so it doesn't have the big VHS section, and I couldn't be happier. It was only like a hundred bucks, it was in perfect working condition. The guy was so sweet, he held it for me because I was like, I can't get it until Tuesday. I messaged him on Saturday, and I got there and he was like, I have a guy ready to burn my fucking house down because I won't sell this to him. And I was like, Well, I really appreciate it. Uh, but yeah, I couldn't be happier. I've been watching a lot more TV while I'm cooking. I usually just rewatch The Pit Stop or like a Bald in the Beautiful episode that I've seen eight million times, so it's been nice to watch you know TV shows that I haven't watched in a while while I'm cooking. Uh, so that definitely added to my list for my content corner. But before we get there, what else have you bought this week?
SPEAKER_01Well, I did recently buy these amazing curtains you can see behind us. I just really thought that they would add, you know, to the whole vibe because we have this window here, but the window is like so small, and then the bed frame is ginormous, so I feel like we needed something, you know, to frill it up. Yeah. And also, you know, Mother's Day is tomorrow, so I did buy my mom and my aunt a bouquet that's a card. If you've seen them on Instagram.
SPEAKER_00Me too. Was it uh what was it called? Floral or um I don't know, but I got the biggest one.
SPEAKER_01It was I opened it the other day. Uh I don't know. I got two different ones. I got my. I got my mom the lilac one. Well, and then I got my aunt there's like red and yellow, because I was like my favorite colors.
SPEAKER_00I got the big I think we probably got the same one. Yeah, I got it off an Instagram ad. So we probably want the same thing. They look really realistic.
SPEAKER_01They look so good, and because it's like flowers, like they wilt, but this will last forever. So you can hoard it forever.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Um, yeah, I got like big pink peonies and like a blue like china glass vase looking thing. Yeah, they're super cute. I also got my mom like a little fish necklace. It's like a cartoon sardine kind of looking fish. It was some like boutique pop-up at my vineyard the other day. My mom's hard to shop for. I figured the flowers were like an easy thing because it's you know, flowers are always nice and these ones won't die. Uh so it's like an extra little bonus. But I feel like she'll like a little quirky necklace. She might never wear it, but it's the thought that counts. Right, it's the thought that counts. She can't be ungrateful. Well, she'll she'll totally be ungrateful. Well, when did you get this bed frame? Is this like a new hoarder hall for you?
SPEAKER_01Or is this um maybe a year ago? This is a marketplace find. Shout out Facebook Marketplace. That's where I find all the best things. These um end tables, too. I have a whole set, got that on marketplace. So, you know, when you want old people shit, it's good to go on marketplace because the young people are always giving away their grandparents' shit. So you find all the good stuff.
SPEAKER_00And they'll always take a lower price.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. You gotta check how many weeks it's on there, and it's like, oh, it's been on here for 25 weeks. Oh, okay, I'll low bomb offer half the price. And then if they don't message me back, I just have my husband message them, and you get it.
SPEAKER_00My friend Kayla's done that before on accident, but in in the negative, her and her boyfriend Steven were trying to get a new couch on Facebook Marketplace, and Steven was messaging the guy and talked him down to a certain price, and then Kayla was messaging him also on her phone. He didn't know that they were a couple, and she was willing, she was like, Yeah, I'll pay this other like this higher price. And the guy was like, Hey, sorry, bro, like I'm selling it to another girl for more money, and he's like, That's my fucking girlfriend, she just fucked this deal over. So they had to pay the higher price for it because Kayla was impatient. Well, that's kind of all the tchotchkis and like bigger items that we got this week, but I'm just gonna jump through some of the physical media that I picked up so we can get into some more fun topics. Uh, but I found a pretty nice selection this week for VHS's. I found Rolls The Witches with Angela Lansberry. Fierce fucking movie. The prosthetic makeup in that movie is next level. The acting is incredible. The you may remove your wigs. It's just it's too good. Uh, and then I found The Twilight Zone on VHS. It's like four episodes on this tape. I have been feeling really bad the last couple of weeks when I go to the thrift, the time that I go to the one that I find the most physical media at, the guy always seems to be restocking like new donations, and I feel like such a leech, like following him around, like waiting for him to put stuff on the shelf. It is the game you gotta play because this week I watched him put down the Twilight Zone, and if I wasn't standing right there to grab it, some other little end by blue-haired fucking reseller would have snatched it up. So I have no shame anymore. After that, I was like, all right, you know what? This is just what I gotta do to get what I want. Uh then I also found Punch Drunk Love. I've never seen Punch Drunk Love before, have you?
SPEAKER_01Honestly, I don't I don't really know any of the stuff you've been talking about.
SPEAKER_00The Twilight Zone Girl, the Witches.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, I'm you know, I'm not like a big TV movie, anything. I saw I feel like a lot of times when I watch your podcast, I'm like, no, no idea.
SPEAKER_00No idea.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00That's how I felt last week. Shout out Abby when we were filming that episode, watching it back when I was like going through all the music that I was like that I picked up on CD. She was like, mm-hmm. No, right, for sure. Like she had no idea half the people I was talking about, but that's fine. Well, I don't really know Punch Drunk Love either, but I picked it up because I saw it. Uh, Liv, shout out Liv. She has a poster of Punch Punch Drunk Love in their apartment, her and Carly's apartment, but it was in her room when she lived in Ithaca. And when I went to go visit her in Ithaca for the first time, the poster is from some Ithaca Film Festival that she must have been working at the movie theater she worked at. And I assumed it was like a short film or something that was like screening for the first time at the Ithaca Film Festival, not like a blockbuster Adam Sandler film. So I was shocked when I picked it up off the shelf and I was like, what is this like indie film doing on the shelf on VHS to flip it over and find that it's like from the 90s with Adam Sandler? So I guess I'll have to give that a watch. And then I also found another classic film that I have never watched, Dead Poet Society. I know that is like a big gay awakening movie, or at least for some people. My brother's obsessed with it because it's like very um a separate piece with like Finny on the ledge, you know. Did you read that in an English class?
SPEAKER_01Um, I probably read about 10 pages of it.
SPEAKER_00That was a pretty good book. It actually was like one of the few books, like the outsiders that I read, and I actually really enjoyed an English class. Uh, but it's a classic movie that I've never given a chance, so I definitely have to watch that. And for DVDs, we got some good TV shows to watch on my new little CR TV, kitchen TV. I found Game of Thrones seasons one and two. Have you watched Game of Thrones? I also have never given it a chance. I don't know why. I just have like a bias toward like medieval shows like that. Like, I just don't think I'll like them, but I really haven't given them a chance. Like I love Skyrim, I love that type of vibe for a video game, so I don't know why I don't think I'd like a TV show about it, but something about like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, of it's just never piqued my interest. But it's supposed to be one of the greatest shows of all time.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I never really watched anything medieval either.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I picked them up anyway because they were cheap and brand new, wrapped in the plastic. So why not? And I also found White Collar season one. Have you ever watched White Collar? I've only watched a couple of episodes like episodes here and there. Uh it's just I don't know, Matt Bowmer is super sexy and he's like so young in the show. So I have enjoyed the few episodes I've watched, but it's just, you know, another thing to clog my shelves with that I don't really need, but I'll probably watch a few episodes of it at some point. And I also found a Spongebob Halloween episode compilation. Alright, I can get down with that. Now we're talking.
SPEAKER_02Speaking my language, okay? The kid shows.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, come on now. Uh I think there's only what a couple of Spongebob Halloween episodes, maybe one, or I mean maybe two, definitely the one. Uh, but it's called like it's says Halloween on it, and then it says like spooky sea tales. So I think it's like rock bottom, like the hash slinging slasher. I think it's just like spooky coded episodes and then the one Halloween episode. Uh, but if there's another Halloween episode, I'm sure it's on there too. And to close out the Warner Hall, we got a good handful of CDs. We found Tango in the Night by Fleawood Mac classic album. Uh, we found Shine by Joni Mitchell. I'm a big Joni Mitchell lover, never heard of this album before. I think it's like the last studio album she recorded. It's I think from 2007. Um, I had to like do a double take at it because I was like, what is this album cover? What is this title? I have no idea what this is. This is actually Joni Mitchell, but I looked it up on Spotify. It is her. Um, I found Harvest Moon by Neil Young, Astral Week by Van Morrison, which I would say, I like I want to say it's his most iconic album, but it's really his most iconic album cover, and it has one of his most notable songs on it, but I think Moondance by Van Morrison is probably his bigger hit album. Then I found Bona Drag by Morrissey. We love the Smiths. Are you a Smiths girly? No, I feel like you're not a big music girly in general.
SPEAKER_01I uh Yes and no.
SPEAKER_00Like RuPaul music.
SPEAKER_01No, it depends. I definitely go through like big phases. Like I'm in like my emo phase now.
SPEAKER_00Uh I found I need you by Leanne Rhymes, and then to close it off, I did find. I know I've been saying in the last like three episodes, fuck the Beatles, and that does still stand, but I did pick up Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club, only because if I'm gonna have one Beatles album to like take up space in my CD rack, it's gonna be the one with the most iconic album cover. So I figured why not? It was in good condition, so it couldn't hurt to have one Beatles album in the collection. All right, well, let's get into some content corner. Uh Krista, what have you been listening to? What's been in your rotation?
SPEAKER_01Well, I have been listening to a lot of Panic at the disco recently. Um like I didn't really like used to listen to them a lot. Like I liked like a few songs, but then I don't know. Like, like I go on Spotify and like I'll pick a song and I'll do like go to radio. Sure. So like it suggests a bunch of songs.
SPEAKER_00That's the T. That's how you find a lot of good music, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, but I what I like about a lot of their songs is like I like them, but also they have like funny lines in it, like let's get these teen hearts beating faster, faster.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're very um they're a little chewy sometimes, but they are like it, yeah. It does have its time and place. Brennan Yuri is such a interesting interesting line.
SPEAKER_01Or um, now I'm of consenting age. Like, why is he saying that? But it's like kind of funny. Like that's the first line in the song.
SPEAKER_00Um I went through a big hating panic at the disco phase, but just for like show. Like I didn't I liked some of their music. I, you know, I liked the hits, but Lydia was so into them and I just wanted to fuck with her. So when she'd be like, I'm gonna play like when she put panic on the disco and I go, oh God. Like I would put on a show and be so over the top about hating them when I really was kind of indifferent. And if I was anything but indifferent, I was slightly a fan, you know what I mean? But I put on that act for a little too long, and then eventually I was like, Can I tell you a secret? I'm actually down with panic at the disco. They're kind of cool. Uh yeah, new perspective. Death of a Bachelor, fierce album, probably their best album in my opinion, unless you're going for like the real like emo, you know, uh that alt music phase that they went through, uh, or really their origins. So but Death of the Bachelor is such a fierce album, but I can totally get behind that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Or also, um, you know, again on the radio, I listened to Come a Little Closer by KG Elephant, and that's just been like stuck in my head. But also, you know, to switch it up, I saw that it was either sugar or spice posted on their story, this cat's eye song called Pinky Up.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I don't know, this is about it. I was like, this kind of goes hard. I don't know. Like, I love like I don't really listen to songs for the lyrics. I like listen for like the beat, and like like I like more upbeat songs, even though I, you know, I just said all these panic at disco songs, but they are kind of like upbeat.
SPEAKER_00Do you listen to like house music? I feel like you would love house music.
SPEAKER_01I don't know, not really.
SPEAKER_00No, okay. We'll get into it. Get into it, get into some house music.
SPEAKER_01I guess I'm I'm open to recommendations. So I start listening to all the songs that you recommend.
SPEAKER_00For sure. And if you guys want to do that too, tune into Runon Playlist on Spotify. I do weekly updates and put the songs that I mention in my content corner onto the playlist so you can keep up with it. You don't have to track it for episode. Yep, Jack Martin underscore on Spotify and check for the run-on playlist. Is that all your music for the week, or have you been listening to anything else?
SPEAKER_01Um also I've been listening to Talk That Talk by Rihanna. I don't know. I played at work on the radio, and I was like, what is this? I'm obsessed. I literally played it for like three days straight, but now I'm kind of sick of it. But I still really like it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I still have such mixed feelings about Rihanna. I talked about it a couple of weeks ago with Lauren Hill, where I was like, Lauren Hill, I have no problem with her dropping the miseducation of Lauren Hill and then never making music again because it was like you're not gonna top yourself. Like, how you can't like drop that piece of music and then make anything better than it. So, like, just you know, tour, do the hits, do that album, and you know, be in the public eye, but like you don't need to make any more music, it's fine, girl. I felt that way with Rihanna for a long time, and I still do, you know what I mean? Like, she's just completely, I feel like done all she can at this point. Like, how are you gonna top?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I think she could come back. Well, okay, didn't she come out with that like trolls song? I don't I don't remember what it was, but I I don't think I just don't remember not liking it or not thinking it was good or something.
SPEAKER_00I definitely yeah, I think Florent Hill could have made good music again. You know what I mean? I'm I'm being a little dramatic, like you can't top it. I mean, you're not gonna top it, but you can still make good music, and same with Rihanna, but like even if you don't want to do that, still come back and tour the hits, girl. Do an Aeros tour.
SPEAKER_01Well, she's a mom now, okay? She's got bigger and better priorities, okay? She's not thinking about releasing music.
SPEAKER_00And she's got her makeup line, she's got her fucking lingerie line, like she's got like she doesn't need to be doing music anymore. But she can she can give us a couple of wiggle gigs, you know, like just go up there and do the hits. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like that's it. We don't need a whole album. We just need like three like really hits like I can get behind that. Just the best.
SPEAKER_00Well, kind of in the same vein of your like emo pop punky vibe. A little bit more alt, though. Well, I mean, you said Cage the Elephant, which is kind of in this category. I've been big into Roadkill by the 1975 this week. I, as you know, am probably the 1975's number one fan. And they had a little bit of like a scare on Spotify a couple of weeks ago. Notes on a conditional forum, which is their album that they released during the pandemic. So it's kind of like their not lost album, but it's the one that like got screwed up in the press the most. Like it didn't get and like it didn't reach as many people as it could have if you know the world hadn't collapsed. But all of a sudden, half of the songs on Notes on a Conditional Forum were just like missing from Spotify. Uh, there was a couple like the singles from the album were still there, but like when you went to play the song, it was the single album cover instead of the real album cover, and it was it was very strange. I was very hopeful, people were freaking out, but I was like, this probably means they're releasing new music soon, and they're like preparing stuff on Spotify and fucked something up on well, I mean, Notes wasn't their last album, so I don't know why that would have happened, but I don't know. I was trying to be optimistic and I was like, this means new music is coming, um, but they've since fixed it, so I've been trying not to take it for granted, and I've been listening to a lot of the songs that were missing for a while. Uh so Roadkill has been heavy in my rotation. I've also been listening to Fleet Mac a lot more recently. Uh so Big Love by Flea Wood Mac has been heavy on my mind. I of course love Fleetwood Mac. They are one of the goats of music. You know, no one doesn't like them. Their music fits any scenario, it fits any vibe. You can put it on anywhere, anytime, and it will fit. Uh, it just is timeless, easy listening music. But because of that, I feel like at certain points I listen to them too much, and I need to like pump the brakes and give them a rest so I can come back and you know, because it's yes, they have a lot of music in their catalog, but like again, it it becomes the same old shit after a while. So even though I never really get tired of it, I need to like give myself space so I can really appreciate it when I do start listening to it again. So we're kind of like on an upswing for Fleetwood Mac right now. Uh finding Tango in the Night on CD kind of kickstarted that last week or the beginning of last week. And in that same vein, I'm listening to Clarity by John Mayer a lot. I was deep cleaning my closet the other day, and I was like, I have all these CDs, I need to commit to listening to them more. And after that fucking war I had on Facebook Marketplace over that CD player, I was like, we need to put this to use more. Um, so I was like, I'm not gonna watch Bob on the Pit Stop for the eight millionth time. I'm gonna shut my TV off and I'm gonna listen to some music while I do this. So we're really trying to get back into a 90s analog summer. That is my goal, but we'll get into that in a second. Uh, but Clarity I put on when I was like, let me repeat this four fucking times because the song is so good. Uh, and then I've also been listening to Point of View by Select Tracks. They are an artist I found randomly this week from yet again One Tree Hill. I find a lot of fierce music, early 2000s, nine, like late 90s music from One Tree Hill soundtrack. Their music producer knew what the fuck was up. Uh, they select the perfect music for the vibe of One Tree Hill. Uh, and I just saw some random One Tree Hill TikTok with it playing in the background, and I said, Oop, Shazam, who is she? Uh, so check in to the Run-on playlist to see all of those selections if you want to listen along with us. But back to having an analog summer to close off the content corner, we'll finish it off with a book. I finished 20 years later. It's taken me literally 20 fucking years later to finish this book. Took me three months because it was much slower paced than I would have liked it to be, and it did not grip me the way I was hoping it would. Imagine the grip. There was no grip, girl. Uh, it really was a drag to finish, but I wanted to be done with it because there's another book I want to start. And I sat outside on Thursday in my hammock for like four hours and just powered through the rest of the book to get it done. But I locked my phone in my room inside so I wouldn't be distracted. And I was like, oh baby, that's the move. Like, we gotta put the fucking phone down. We gotta get outside. We got to get to more of an analog state. CDs, watch less YouTube. If I'm gonna watch something while I'm cooking, put the phone down so I'm not like watching YouTube and seeing notifications pop up and then getting distracted into going to my phone for like 10 minutes when I don't need to be. Put on my kitchen TV, pop in an episode, early 90s music, vibes, that little staticky feel. It's cozy, it is nostalgic. It is just we gotta, it's the phones are taking over our lives.
SPEAKER_01It's just like more relaxing. It's not like feeling like you have to like keep up with stuff. That's like why I turned off most of notifications on the apps on my phone. Like Snapchat, Instagram. Like, I don't need notifications from Instagram and Snapchat, like nothing on there is important.
SPEAKER_00No, it's literally just brain rot. We I literally feel like a coconut baby when I'm like Well, I mean the dancing fruit.
SPEAKER_01I can get down with some dancing fruit, okay?
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah, no, I get it. We definitely are too overstimulated as a society. We have way too much access to content that is baseless and like doesn't mean anything. If we're gonna consume I my New Year's resolution this year was intentionality and just going into any decision that I make with a lot more intention. Do I actually want to do this thing? What is my goal to get out of this thing? That's why I took, you know, pumped the brakes on drinking and smoking. I was just those were things that I felt like I wasn't thinking before I was doing and just felt like second nature. And I was like, hmm, I don't like that. The phone is probably the biggest culprit of that in my life at least. Like, hey, why am I waking up and opening Instagram? Might as well just shoot yourself. Like you've just ruined your whole day. Like, it's crazy. Like, oh, let's immediately compare myself to someone I don't know and have never met before.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's like you open your phone and it's like 6 30 in the morning, and it's like talking about like babies dying, or that there's like poison in the water, or there's um asbestos in your mattress. Like seeing all these things online is really like it's really like gone in my head and like make me think about all these things like I never would have even thought about unless I saw this 30-second reel. And it's like it's messing with my mind sometimes.
SPEAKER_00It is. I actually it's so funny. This morning on my way to work, I was listening to an Abraham Hicks video. Do you know Abraham Hicks that I shared her with you? She's fierce. I don't think I've talked about her on here before. She is a, I guess you could call her like a spiritual guru. She her name is Esther, Esther Hicks, but she channels this like her higher self, which she calls Abraham, just as like a generic term that kind of like covers all the bases for like any Abrahamic religion for you know people to understand. You know, she's like, I'm not, she's like, I'm me. Hello, but like when you get into flow state, anybody achieves Abraham, like they achieve that higher divine voice that like you don't even really know what you're saying, but it's just flowing through you, that flow state. And she does seminars and she does like self-help talks, she writes books, she's fierce, but it's like the most unculty type shit that you've ever seen. Like when you listen to her, at least for me, the I've been listening to her for over 10 years now. Um, but when you listen to her, it's not preachy, it's not trying to sell something, it's not trying to control you. It is genuinely just trying to get you to free yourself using your own emotions. The cornerstone of all of her teachings is ask and it is given, and everything in your life at its foundation is emotions-based. Anything that you are I mean, her big thing is law of attraction. So she's like, anything that you're trying to manifest, it has an emotional foundation first. You want this job, you want this house, you want this lover, you want this life for yourself because of the way you think it's gonna make you feel, and you have the power to feel that emotion that you think that thing is gonna give you without needing the thing. Like at base level, you can sit here right now with nothing and feel the way you think all of your dreams are gonna make you feel emotionally, and then having the actual physical manifestation of that thing is just the cherry on top, it's just an extra reward, but you don't need it to feel changed. Um, which is, I mean, the essence of all law of attraction. You need to like, in order to believe it, or in order to receive it, you need to believe it. So run on sentence, hello, we're going off an attention. But um, why did I get into her? We were talking about uh, oh, this morning I was listening to an Abraham video on YouTube. She has so much free content out there that really it just resonates with you in a way that, or I don't know, for you, I can't speak for you, but for me, when I listen to her, it's like a re rehearing of something, even if it's something new, it resonates in me as if I know it already and I'm hearing it through a different lens, and I'm like, oh yeah, bitch duh. Uh, and that happened this morning. She literally was giving exactly the example you just said of like, oh, why am I going to just overwhelm my mind with, well, there's a war in the Middle East and those two people don't get along, and we're over there, and there's babies dying, and there's, you know, a genocide happening, and like who was on the land first? And like, oh, you know, the economy's collapsing. And okay, and what can I do about that? Hontavirus, right?
SPEAKER_012026, new pandemic.
SPEAKER_00And what can I do about that?
SPEAKER_01Literally.
SPEAKER_00So I'm sitting here in my bliss, and I'm choosing to open up this portal of like negativity and consuming this content that I can't even do anything about. And I'm letting it this thing that has no effect on my life. I know that's not necessarily the best mindset to have of like, oh, who cares about a genocide? It's not happening to me, like, yeah, until it's happening to you. Yeah, I like I understand that.
SPEAKER_01I can't change the war in the Middle East. I can't control what happens with this virus and these people getting let off the cruise. I can't control what's in my tap water. Well, it can to an extent.
SPEAKER_03To an extent, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just like stuff like that. Like, you can't control most of this stuff, so it's like, don't let it get in your head.
SPEAKER_00And what you can control is how you feel.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_00That's the motherfucking C. Even all of those things, if those things are being thrown at you, you can choose how you take it and how you're gonna let it actually affect you and how much you're gonna digest, and you can choose to let it affect you in a negative way or in a positive way. I mean, I know a lot of people have differing opinions on that. I've gotten into plenty of fights with friends being like, it's toxic positivity, you can't be happy all the time. And I'm not happy all the time. I'm human. That's just not totally possible. But yeah, put the damn phone down. Don't let yourself be consumed by all the negativity that's out there, unless it's something that you can actually change and control. You shouldn't be letting it uh, you know, affect your mindset that much. What does RuPaul say? If them bitches ain't paying your bills, pay them bitches no minds, baby. Well, that kind of like I popped off on that. If you want to pop off at any more on pop.
SPEAKER_01I feel as I'm getting older, I'm realizing that happiness is a choice. Because my mind generally goes very negative, and I usually always focus on the negative.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's what we're programmed to do as a society.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I feel like, you know, my family, if Barb, I told Barb about this, so she might be watching, but I feel like my family is very negative. Shout out, Barb. We tend to focus on the negative, but they are very loving too, don't get me wrong. But they'll be the first ones to tear you down. You're that looks like shit, your hair don't look good, or whatever. That outfit don't look good. And chances are they probably won't even say it to your face, they'll just tell it to someone. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02So then we'll all laugh about it.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. Yeah. But you were saying, uh happiness is a choice. Happiness is a choice, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You just gotta look, be like, I'm in this beautiful room with my amazing pink walls and my new curtains and my hardbed frame. And I just need to choose happiness about it.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna try out a new segment today, which was run on sentence and let you pick a topic to run on about, some something that you can, you know, just talk, talk, talk, and talk about. So we kind of cover that with this on accident, but I also popped off for a minute. Do you have a different topic you want to pop off about?
SPEAKER_01Well, I have a lot of negative things I could run on about my job, especially, you know, I'm a cake decorator at Tildes, but I'm gonna choose something.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's not really positive, but well, we can turn that into positive if it applies.
SPEAKER_01I have realized even though I went to culinary school, but I went for baking and pastry, I hate cooking. I would rather saw my left arm off than have to cook ever again. No, if I could saw my arm off to have someone make me meals for the rest of my life, I would do it. All right, I would do it. Uh it's just to me, it's just like so overwhelming. I don't want to chop an onion, I don't want to boil the water, I don't want to put something in the oven and then have to be mixing something on the stove. Or it's like, I tried there's this like girl on TikTok, her name's like Teeny, and she like has these recipes and she has this like viral mac and cheese, and I like mac and cheese. So I tried it. Right. Oh my god, it was a nightmare. I had to like make a roux and then melt the cheese, and then I burned something, and I had to start over, and then I did all this work. I didn't even fucking like it.
SPEAKER_00No, I know that's all it was like oh.
SPEAKER_01So I did all this work and I hated it, and I don't even like it. So that's why, you know, me and the air fryer, we're besties, okay? Air fryer is my best thing.
SPEAKER_00Frozen chicken, frozen french fries, anything I could put in the air fryer, frozen veggies, maybe get some fiber and some nutrients.
SPEAKER_01I've been big into broccoli lately, okay? I'm a broccoli girl.
SPEAKER_00Broccoli is my favorite vegetable, hands down.
SPEAKER_01I go to Applebee's, I get the grilled chicken, I tell them double broccoli. I don't even need the dish potato potatoes. I don't know. They I don't even know what they do.
SPEAKER_00They probably microwave it.
SPEAKER_01They probably do, but I know I'm down with it, okay? I'm gonna start microwaving it.
SPEAKER_00Broccoli is elite, in my opinion. Peas, severely underrated. You gotta get into peas, girl. Broccoli. Love peas. You gotta any peas and anything really work. Well, not anything, but most, you know, like dishes that you can add a vegetable to, peas will like fit in very nicely. I I you are so valid, sister, and I see I see your struggle and I see your pain. I couldn't disagree with you more. I love cooking. Cooking is like cooking is like my meditation. Cooking is my favorite part of the day, with especially with my kitchen TV now, bitch. I'm living it up in the kitchen.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I need to start coming over and you can cook me. Right.
SPEAKER_00Well, I've just always been a big cooker. I just love the like time when you're cooking. It like it maybe it's because, like I said, it's sort of like a meditation. You can't focus on too much else other than what you're cooking, or else you'll fuck it up. So I can't be on my phone. I can't be thinking about too much other shit. I gotta be focusing on the recipe at hand. So it kind of is like grounding and like takes me out of reality, and it's kind of like an escape for me. Uh, it's just one of the biggest joys in my life. I love cooking, but I I understand it's not for everybody. I talked about it a couple of weeks ago with Alessia and Carly. I was literally Alessia's fucking personal chef in college because she did not like to cook and she needed to eat, and we were usually eating the same thing anyway, so I would just make bigger portions for both of us.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm glad you find joy in that. But also, what makes me mad is I'll see like reels. Oh, an easy meal that you can cook in less than 20 minutes. And they're like, all right, get out your onion and chop it up. No, you you lost it.
SPEAKER_00That already took me 15 minutes to cut the fucking onion.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I want one pan in the oven and then I take it out and it's done.
SPEAKER_00You actually you gotta get into the like slap chop um device for any vegetables. Not like no, not the pampered chef slap chop. But I mean that that shit was too hard to clean, but it did it that does work really fiercely for like uh shredding chicken and stuff. But for vegetables it was too much. No, I'm talking about the new I mean it's sort of new. It's like a box. With a lid, like as the lid, the lid, the lid, as most boxes have. Um, but it has like a grate on top of it that you put onions, peppers, tomatoes, whatever onto, and then there's a lid that comes out on top of it that you slap really hard and like pushes it through and cuts it automatically for you. It is so fierce for onions, girl. It it cuts the time like more than in half. Like you're done in maybe three minutes cutting a full onion versus doing it by hand, and you don't tear up because it's like all you have to do is like cut the onion in quarters so it fits in the box, and then you're done.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I'm I'll look into that, but um, there's not really much cooking going on over here, especially with like vet vegetables that have to be cut up, but you know, I could do better with vegetables too. And also, um, I did get Hello Fresh, and I used to do it when I was younger with my mom, and it was okay, but now when it's meant to be.
SPEAKER_00Well, because you would make her do most of the work, probably.
SPEAKER_01Uh maybe maybe, but no, we made one meal. We ordered four meals. We made one. That was it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, come on, girl. What a wizard.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, I think the stuff is actually still good. I put the no, don't worry, I put the meat in the freezer. So that's I can still eat that, okay? And honestly, the next biggest blessing has been um my mom cooks for us. She'll be like, just drop the chicken off, and I'll cook it, and then you can pick it up.
SPEAKER_00Drop the chicken off. You buy the raw chicken and drop it off at the bar. Yes, come on, girl. Come on. You not have a grill in this house.
SPEAKER_01Did you not just hear my whole red?
SPEAKER_00Chicken is the easiest thing to cook. You make a little olive oil marinade, a little cumin, a little paprika, a little oregano, some lemon.
SPEAKER_01That's what I hate. It was when the reels go, season with your heart.
SPEAKER_00That's what I do.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, if you don't, if you're not someone that cooks, how do I know? I don't know what that means.
SPEAKER_00You just listen to your intuition. You just shake, shake, shake until you feel like it's enough.
SPEAKER_01It turns out I was never putting enough seasoning.
SPEAKER_00Well, you were making white girl chicken, just bland chicken. I'm you know what?
SPEAKER_01I like pepper on my chicken now.
SPEAKER_00I thought I'd be like, Girl, don't start with me. Don't start with me. I like some pepper. Okay, Q. You are a spicy girl.
SPEAKER_01I like some pepper.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no. I I love seasoning. I'll put too much seasoning on something. I love a marinade. I usually, ideally, if I'm making chicken or steak, I like to leave it in the fridge overnight, sitting in spices and marinade. You gotta tenderize it, poke a bunch of holes in it so it really absorbs all the flavor. Too good. But chicken is so easy to marinate and just cook on the grill, girl. It takes 15 minutes. Okay. I'm not gonna force you to want to cook, but I'm telling you, it's much easier than you think, and you gotta be doing more than just motherfucking salt and pepper on a goddamn chicken cutlet. But I do get down with some. But if you're gonna do that, you gotta like go full white girl chicken and do you ever make chicken salad from chicken breasts?
SPEAKER_01I don't I don't I don't mess with that.
SPEAKER_00My girl Sarah and Cheryl, shout out girls, they put me on to boiled chicken breasts, which I know sounds like the devil, but boil the chicken breasts for 20 minutes. They come out stark white, and then chop them up. Like you chop them up. Mayo, onion powder, green onion, celery, maybe chicken salad. Some of the best chicken salad I've ever had. So good. I mean, ideal chicken salad is gonna be a rotisserie chicken. Chop that shit up. It already has that extra like greasy flavor, and then you can add a couple of seasonings to it if you want. Um, but just that good old bland boiled chicken, and then add the spices that you want to it to make it, you know, taste accordingly with some uh potato chips. I don't even want it on bread. Just give me the chicken salad and chips. It's my beach snack of choice. Because the chicken salad's the snack. I'm getting the deli sandwich, but then I'm bringing the extra protein, I'm getting the chicken salad on the side just to like dip chips in and have as a little side. Well, we actually forgot to close out the content corner properly, but this is kind of perfect because it'll be a nice little segue into our next segment, also. But to backtrack a little bit, we didn't talk about any TV shows or movies that we've been watching. Movies for me, the only one I've watched this week. Well, actually, I watched two. I watched one last night also. I saw Michael, the new Michael Jackson biopic in theaters with my dad a couple of days ago. Fierce. Are you a Michael Jackson? I want to see that. It's really good. They did an incredible job casting. Jafar Jackson, obviously, literally bloodline of Michael Jackson. He did an unbelievable job. Uh, Coleman Domingo plays Joe Jackson, the dad. Had absolutely no idea that it was him. I kept, I went down like a rabbit hole, of course, because I, you know, was just entranced with the movie. And I was like, I have always liked Michael Jackson. I've never been like a Michael Jackson stan. I mean, I did talk about a couple of episodes ago.
SPEAKER_02I love Jackson 5.
SPEAKER_00The Jackson 5 fierce the but I I did talk about the Will You Be There music video or the live performance from Free Willy that I was obsessed with. I did grow up loving Michael Jackson. I just wasn't like a, you know, like super, super stan. Um, but I did grow my love for him from Glee and like Smooth Criminal on Glee and PYT and you know, some of his other hits that they not made popular again because Michael Jackson was never not popular, but you know, they brought a new light to. Um, but I went down a rabbit hole on like Instagram and Reddit, just like reading about Michael, and I kept seeing pictures of Coleman Domingo on red carpets with like Jafar Jackson and the other cast members. I was like, what the fuck is he doing here? Like what he wasn't in the movie. Like, was he a producer? Like, I don't see any of the other producers, the directors on the red carpet with them. Come to find out, he just had fierce prosthetic makeup on and was playing Joe Jackson. So shout out to them. They did a really fierce job. The performances were amazing, like the stage concert performances that they did in the movie, phenomenal. I mean, they left out a lot of stuff. I I'm assuming they're gonna make another movie because they at the end of it, it was kind of a weird ending, and then it said his story continues. So, like, I'm assuming another one's coming. But even with the timeline that they covered in the movie, they still left so much out of that timeline because there's just too much to cover, but um and then I also watched Ghost in the Machine last night, which is a VHS I picked up a few weeks ago. It's about a serial killer that gets his body and consciousness like uploaded into a into the computer world, like into the world wide web, and causes like electrical havoc and like kills people through the computer. It was very cheesy. It was nothing exciting. I wouldn't watch it again, but I wouldn't tell someone not to watch it because it wasn't terrible. But Michael was definitely a better, better watch. But have you watched any movies this week?
SPEAKER_01Well, kind of lame. Not really a big movie girl or a TV series person. Like people always like judgment. Oh, have you seen this? No, no, no. But what I have been watching is me and my husband have been watching Family Guy. Love it. I never really watched it, but like we're watching.
SPEAKER_00I've never watched it all the way through, like, you know, seriously. Just whatever's on TV.
SPEAKER_01But also, I have been re-watching SpongeBob, which I would recommend. Honestly, it's so good. I feel like it's even funnier now.
SPEAKER_00Totally. It the amount of shit that was written for adults that kids just don't realize is too good.
SPEAKER_01Every episode has like just like some banger lines or like funny jokes that I'd just be stuck in my head all day. And then, like I say at work to my friend Trish, shout out, Trish. Hopefully, I'm gonna send this to you, Trish.
SPEAKER_00Shout out, girl.
SPEAKER_01And yeah, just love, love me some Spongebob. You know, it's been my favorite show since I was a kid, came out the year I was born, 1999. Best year ever.
SPEAKER_00Best year ever. It was so fucked up. My mom didn't let me watch SpongeBob for a few years. And then for some reason, like decided when my brother got to a certain age, she was like, All right, I guess you can watch it. And it was like my brother's favorite show, like Spongebob pajamas, Spongebob pillows, and bedding and fucking lunchbox, and I'm like, Why are you supporting this like Spongebob obsession when you wouldn't even let me watch it for so many years? Like, it was ridiculous.
SPEAKER_01The theme of my new bathroom, Spongebob.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, girl, you should. You already picked out the tiles already, but like that'd be fierce Spongebob wallpaper. You could do all like um oh the flowers from Spongebob.
SPEAKER_01I just did a cake the other day. It was like what's funnier than 24, 25. That's like a lot of people are getting that recently, but it actually was like really cute. I did like um blue to like kind of like teal ombre with the flowers. Love it, it was so cute.
SPEAKER_00I am totally with you on TV shows, though. I don't really watch a lot of new TV. I tend to like rewatch some of my older faves, Criminal Minds, SVU, which are actually two of the ones that are on my list of the club. It's just too good.
SPEAKER_01It was kind of bad, but like I was obsessed when I was like like 12, 12, like 15.
SPEAKER_00I'm like 12 years old watching about like my mom has a problem with me watching SpongeBob, but she's like, Yeah, throw on SVU in the background. Like, I I remember watching that shit like too early, you know what I mean? My dad, my dad was a cop. Cops was on all the time, just full on crime, and they're like, Spongebob is too far, girl.
SPEAKER_01My cousins, um, they had a kid recently, and he's a cop, and they like watch cops all the time. The kid is like, I don't know, one and a half, and the it'll be the music, like dun dun, dun, dun, and the kiddy's like, yeah, like bump up and down, dance to it. It's so funny. Love it. But they like watch that stuff all the time with him. It's it's funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's interesting what they chose to be appropriate and inappropriate for us to watch. SVU, I should not have been watching as young as I was. Criminal Minds, I should not have been watching as young as I was. It's probably a big reason why we're so desensitized, you know, as a generation. I feel like all of us are kind of just like, yeah, well, yeah, about like way too many fucked up things. Totally with you on the newer shows not being my tee, all the new Netflix series. The Netflix lighting alone is enough to not make me like watch shows. They're so ugly to look at now, but also the content is just awful. But like I said, I've been watching Criminal Minds this week, I've been watching Law and Order SVU, uh, specifically year 10, just because that's the box set DVD that I've been, you know, going through while I'm cooking. Uh, I've also been watching Charmed, my all-time favorite show.
SPEAKER_01Or I've been watching Super Nanny on YouTube. I don't know why, but it's just like I just I love how she is. She's just like tells it to the show. No nonsense. Nothing. I love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or have you ever watched um Tabitha takes over? Tabitha takes over.
SPEAKER_00Baby! Don't get me started. All time cunt. She is so cunt.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. I've seen every episode on YouTube.
SPEAKER_00So like on Repeat. That shit was some of the best TV from that era. She commands a room like no one else.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I love her.
SPEAKER_00I just love a fierce bitch with a blunt haircut who just comes in and owns the room. She, oh, you know, she's too good.
SPEAKER_01She's no nonsense. We don't take none of that BS from these people.
SPEAKER_00I love her. We need her in the White House. We need her to like take over this country. Tabitha needs to take over the U.S. and like whip shit into shape. Like on both party sides. Yeah. Salute to her. A thousand percent. She would eradicate all conflict in the world. She would clean these streets up. Tabitha for president. Honestly, where is she? What is she getting up to? Nothing. That's like all she ever did. And then disappeared.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, she's probably still a hairdresser.
SPEAKER_00Sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like, what else was she known about? She needs to be back in the spotlight. We need her back. Times like these, we need Tabitha to take over our lives.
SPEAKER_00Seriously. She needs to be a guest judge on Drag Race.
SPEAKER_01Ugh, that'd be so great.
SPEAKER_00Ugh.
SPEAKER_01She needs to be like on the makeover challenge or something.
SPEAKER_00On the makeover challenge, or she needs to be like a regular, like a series regular to do the walkthroughs. Yeah. I'm Tabitha and I'm taking over the workroom and she well, she's Australian. That was a British accent, whatever. She but like she needs to go in and like give the girls notes and like revamp stuff before they get onto the runway. I think she would be someone that would be really fierce at like actually giving them good critiques. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Not like Law, which just like says like clicking.
SPEAKER_00Well, Law never like comes into the room. I'm talking about like when they bring like Alyssa Edwards in to be like, hey girls, and she's walking around, like, let me see your lyrics. Like, what do you like? You know, they're giving horrible notes nine times out of ten. Yeah. I remember like Van Giee came in one time. Like, what the fuck is Van Gie gonna tell these girls that they don't already know to like help them in this challenge? Like, I think Tabitha would actually give fierce, fierce critiques and like help them do better. Um but yeah, classic TV is always the go-to move for me if I'm watching shows. I actually started this week Bones, never watched Bones before, but I was looking for a new show to watch that has a bunch of seasons that I can like you know watch for a while and like have in my back pocket if I'm at a loss for something to watch. And it's you know, early 2000s, it has that vibe of like CSI, you know, all of those shows from that era, a little not SVU-ish. I CSI is like the closest thing I compare it to, a little X-Filey, not X-Filey because it's not aliens, whatever, you know what I mean. And it's not as good as any of those shows. I don't love it. I might not stick with it, but like it's okay for now. I just I almost bought it on DVD a couple of weeks ago when I saw seasons one and two on the shelf, and I was like, you know what? I don't know if I'm actually gonna like this. I've heard mixed reviews. Lydia loves it, but you can't always trust Lydia's opinion on this.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, Lydia.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Lydia. She has like very niche interests sometimes, so I'm like, I don't know if this is actually good or if she just loves it for some reason. Uh I don't get me wrong, I Lydia put me onto One Tree Hill. So, like, she's got some good taste. I will not like completely falter. Totally, totally. So I I had to take it with a grain of salt, and I was like, let me just watch a couple episodes on streaming. If it's meant to be, I'll find it on DVD again later. I won't be picking it up if I see it again. It's not that good, but it's fine. And but for one newer show that I did watch recently, I watched the new Netflix docuseries Should I Marry a Murderer? Should you watch it? You should not. It was it was not good. I like I said, I'm a big documentary docuseries lover. It was so anticlimactic. It's a woman gets out of an eight-year-long relationship, finds this guy on Tinder, meets up with him, they hit it off. He quickly proposes to her. She says, Should I know anything? Like, is there anything I need to know about you before we like go through with this? And he goes, uh, yeah, actually, me and my brother ran over a cyclist in the middle of the night drunk one night, uh, and did kill him, and we buried him on the property. And, you know, pretty jarring. But I'm thinking, should I marry a murderer? It's gonna he's gonna be a serial killer, like he's gonna be lying about that. It wasn't just one body, there's actually multiple bodies. I thought it was gonna get interesting. Not that I was hoping it would, obviously, this is a real story. I wasn't hoping there was a serial killer, you know, running about, but for the context of the story, I yeah, you know I was really hoping it would be a little more interesting.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Was just the one body. And it's just one body. I mean, it did turn a little macabre. He did later tell her that the guy was alive when they went back to like they ran him over, they went to go look at him. He was still living.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you sounded like that FedEx guy.
SPEAKER_00What what? I didn't I don't know. I don't know anything about that. I've seen I know he killed the girl, but like got sentenced to go.
SPEAKER_01The whole story, but apparently he ran her over. Oh, and she was still alive, and she was like, I'm gonna tell my dad. So he threw her in the back, covered the camera with a sticker, and like, you know, raped and murdered her.
SPEAKER_00Damn. That's fucked up. I thought he just kidnapped her. I didn't realize there was a whole like hit and run type situation involved. I mean, fucked up regardless, obviously. But um, yeah, it turned like a little macabre in that way. Like they went to go check on him, he was alive, dragged him to the side of the road, went and got a different car, changed their clothes, came back, he was still alive before they like it was I guess it was fucked up, but you're supposed to sympathize with this woman and be like, oh my god, she has to go to the police, it's heavy on her heart. How is she gonna like lie to this man and like he's gonna find out that it was her that said something? She like lets him come stay with her after she tells the police, then he finds out they stay together. She like stays with him through the whole trial, they're still dating. You like by the end of it, you're like, okay, you need help. I mean, she was like manic by the end, like she was like, Yeah, I was in a really bad mental place, like I was fucked up. Like, I understand what I was doing was crazy, but like I was like, this isn't looking good for you. I can't believe you're admitting this on TV. Like, it was it was kind of crazy. Uh obviously, there's no point watching it now. I kind of just spoiled everything, but it wasn't worth watching anyway.
SPEAKER_02Thanks a lot.
SPEAKER_00But it really wasn't worth it anyway. Well, the perfect closer to the content corner, again, is a little transition into the dragooning section. Me and Krista me and Krista just finished watching the first episode of the new all-stars season of Drag Race, season 11. And girl, I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it till the day I die. RuPaul's Drag Race, dumb fucked up drag. This show needs to be put to death. Do you have anything you need want to get off your chest about this? Straight off the bat.
SPEAKER_01I'm feeling optimistic when I saw the Meet the Queens, but after seeing like who actually was in the first bracket, I'm like, what are they doing? Like, who are we supposed to be hyped about? Like, there's a obviously Morgan like hyped about her, but otherwise it's like like, yeah, I like Morphine, but like it's like I feel like she's like one trick pony. Like and like I like Dawn, but like sometimes she's annoying, and then everyone else, it's like, okay, lucky stars act like I'm gonna go all the way to the end. Yeah, girl, okay.
SPEAKER_00Mystique.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Mystique didn't even have one good outfit the whole episode. I don't even don't even get me started. I don't even know what she was wearing.
SPEAKER_00It seems like she's going through something with like her weight loss, like needing to wear shape where she probably has a lot of loose skin, but like get it under control. Yeah, and it just did but like get it under control before you go on national television like that, and like figure out your tea before you bring it.
SPEAKER_01She was like, oh, I'm just gonna like test the waters this episode, see how you other girls do. Like, there's three episodes, like you need to kick it in the high gear from minute one.
SPEAKER_00I'm not loving the new I'm not loving the bracket situation in this season so far. I thought it was a cute thing to do once. I don't think it was successful enough for them to need to do it again. I don't know, like I guess the drama with Mistress probably like made ratings high enough where they're like, oh, this bracket system must really be working. Like, let's try it out again. It was really just because of Mistress. Like you love Mistress My Girl. But you can't you're not gonna get the same effect out of this style of uh Especially when you bring like boring girls back to it. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01You can't not bring someone like Mistress on to make a bracket, you need someone that's like hard hitter up the tea. And I guess they thought they were doing something by having Morgan and Mystique, but like girl, that was 16 years ago, okay? They're old now, okay? I doubt they're gonna be fighting like that.
SPEAKER_00And it was Kumbaya City. Mystique was like, I'm not letting anyone like affect my piece. Did they even interview her before they brought her onto the scene? Like, I don't know. I just think there's so many better rivalries to uh what are they hoping Silky is gonna be like the MIB of the season? Like she's gonna if I have to live sync, I was prepared to baby we're over it. We're over it, girl. We don't need to hear it. I who do you think the drama of the season is gonna be? I don't think anybody. Maybe Morgan, but like only because she's the only one that's like cutthroat and is like, eliminate the strongest, but they're not doing eliminations. Why would you bring Morgan back for a season where the girls aren't eliminating each other? Like that was her whole T on the last time she was on there, where she was like, I'm gonna eliminate the strongest competitor.
SPEAKER_01Well, I guess the only drama is gonna be with the MVQ point, but still it's like But now she can't even give away a point because she won the first episode. Right. And chances are the best two girls are gonna make it to the end anyway. Like I doubt Mystique and Lucky Stars are gonna be the top two from this bracket.
SPEAKER_00But the MVQ points were only like RT last season because there was instigators like Mistress and George's fucking up the like fucking up the votes. So like I don't I just don't see it for this season. I think it's gonna be really
SPEAKER_01This first episode does not got me excited at all.
SPEAKER_00And we were looking at the brackets after Untucked, and I was like, the only person I'm looking forward to seeing is Crystal. But I don't think I'm even gonna really want to see her because she's gonna be surrounded by other clowns. Like, who else was in her bracket?
SPEAKER_01Like she's not like a potster either.
SPEAKER_00No, pot full of grits, baby. Pot full of grips, but this is a pot full of stinker sleepers. Like Joey J.
SPEAKER_03Come on. Come on.
SPEAKER_00What is Jasmine Kennedy gonna do? Cry again? Like, I just don't like it's just gonna be foolish.
SPEAKER_01Like, I mean, how many times can Vive H should bring out her her?
SPEAKER_00I don't know, man. It's it's tired and played out. Like it really, it's getting to a point. I know I talked about it already.
SPEAKER_01Switch it up or turn it up somehow. I don't know how, but doing the same thing as last time is not it. Not working.
SPEAKER_00I just there must be some method to the madness that must have been more successful ratings-wise than we realize for them to warrant doing it again. But also, to your point, it probably well. I was gonna say, to your point, they probably are able to get more girls to say yes to doing it because of the bracket system. Yeah, the girls are guaranteed at least three episodes to start off. But these are the only girls they could get to say yes. You know what I mean? Like, was it really that successful?
SPEAKER_01Like Akiria again? Like, she was just on it. Like who else to? I can't even remember.
SPEAKER_00Well, Akiria was on what?
SPEAKER_01She was regular and then season six of All-Stars.
SPEAKER_00Which was almost, I mean, that was like half of the what that was six, right? When did Kylie win?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I'm not good with that stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Kylie won before All-Star 7, which was oh yeah, yeah. No, yeah, so Akiria was on All-Star 6, so that was almost, I mean, halfway.
SPEAKER_01Still, like that's some girls that have never been on All-Star.
SPEAKER_00No, I agree, and Akiria played in their faces on that season. She literally chose not to come back for that lip sync smackdown thing with Silky, so I can't believe they even asked her to come back. But yeah, her Dawn and Morphine were like on recent seasons, but they've never been on All-Star, so I guess that's fine. Kennedy, this is her third or fourth time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00No, it's her third time.
SPEAKER_01She didn't ever win four times.
SPEAKER_00Probably not. I mean, Kennedy was type top two for All-Stars 3.
SPEAKER_01She could, I guess. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00But Kennedy was only top three, I mean top two because of the voting that happened that season. But again, this is Morgan's third time too, and I am very excited to see Morgan. And I'm excited to see Kennedy too. She's gonna huck and buck, and she's gonna give the girls what you know what needs to be given. She's always gonna throw a fierce performance at you. So I'm excited to see her do her thing for sure. But yeah, I don't know. There's just so many other girls. That's why I don't understand. Like, yeah, even though a lot of these girls is their first time back, Sugar Cane, Joey J, Hershey LaCore, like why? Just why? Oh, Silky, why is Silky coming back? This is ridiculous at this point. I did hear Silky and Sam Starr were alternates, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I heard that Sam Star was an alternate.
SPEAKER_00And I think people were complaining about Silky's promo shoot look, and they were like, girl, shh, like, oh, maybe the costume didn't come through at the last minute. It was either her costume didn't come through at the last minute, and she had to work with this pink like dance look that she had, or she was like a last-minute add-on to the season and like had to throw that together. But even so, we could have found somebody else last minute if that was the case. Like, Silky, back, back, back, back, back again. It's just not necessary. I don't know. I mean, we're definitely gonna watch it because it gives us an excuse to hang out in Kiki and have a weekly drag race watching.
SPEAKER_01No, you gotta like, you know, you see the plane crash and you gotta watch it.
SPEAKER_00Right. You see the stop that train, baby.
SPEAKER_01Get round.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, get round. Jin or Delight, what is a gym tell talking? Stop that train, baby. You can't stop this train, though. They really will just run the show into the ground.
SPEAKER_01I tell they're dancing on RuPaul's grave.
SPEAKER_00Actually, also we totally forgot to mention Miss Latoya Jackson on this episode. What an iconic diva. I was like, how perfect after like seeing the Michael movie and then like really deep diving into the Jacksons. An icon and a legend. She is 70 years old and looks crazy. So good. She's a little black on crack.
SPEAKER_02She got money to get work done.
SPEAKER_00What a crazy life they must have all lived. Even before Michael became who he was, they were still living such a crazy life. But then, like living in his shadow and like being Michael Jackson's fucking sibling must have just been you can't top him. Like he's the king of pop. He's probably the most famous person that's ever existed in modern culture. How do you like do anything and like feel secure? Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01But Mystique did no services to LaToya with that outfit.
SPEAKER_00Oh, baby. It was fucking atrocious.
SPEAKER_01I don't even know why she had those black leggings on. And then she's like, oh, I did my outfit purple as an ode to my mom. This is supposed to be like an ode to LaToya. Like, obviously, you can like want to celebrate your mom, but like I don't think this was the time. And like the outfit was like not it at all. And then it's so funny she gets red for her whole performance, and then she changed into a lipstick, lipstick outfit. That was even worse.
SPEAKER_00And she kept the black leggings on.
SPEAKER_01Like, girl, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Let's close out the podcast with a little trip down memory land. Me and Krista, I'm pretty sure, have the same memory to share, but do you want to share your part of the memory? Because I think we have favorite parts from different parts of this day.
SPEAKER_01It goes back to middle school when Jack asked me one day.
SPEAKER_00So I had to have been like 16.
SPEAKER_01High school, I said the wrong thing. But um he asked me if I wanted to go see like drag race, and I was like, in my mind thinking like drag race cars, like a drag show. I don't remember what it was, but whatever you said made me think of like cars. So I feel like you said something about like a race or something. But I was like, yeah, okay. And then like a week later, I'm talking to more about it, and I'm realizing, like, oh, it's drag queens, but I was like, I'm still down to go.
SPEAKER_00Queen.
SPEAKER_01So we end up going, and this it's like this like hole in the wall place, you know, they have like condoms and like pamphlets about chlamydia, and we ended up seeing Astrid Betty, who at the time I had you know no idea who it was. Iconic this other girl, Dominique Jackson from beautiful triumph woman. Amazing, mesmerizing, put on a mesmerizing show.
SPEAKER_00And I was I followed her on Instagram that night, she followed me back, still follows me.
SPEAKER_01I was hooked, or I was, you know, into it from then on, still here watching Drag Race all this time after.
SPEAKER_00And then while like why we're sitting here right now is because we've been watching Drag Race together and filming this, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they had a raffle, and I ended up winning 50 bucks and got to go on the stage and stand there with Est and Betty as she handed me my prize.
SPEAKER_00My honey. Yeah, well, my favorite part of like well, my favorite memory of you is a totally different part from this day. It was after all of this. We took my mom's car to like Belmore, Long Island, to go see the show, and I had to convince her so hard to even let me take the car because she was like, I don't like that area. Like, that's I don't know, that's sketchy. You're just gonna leave it in the street. Like, is there a parking lot? There better be a parking lot. I did have to park it in the street. But I parked it in a totally fine spot. We didn't later find out it was totally fine. But when we originally left the place and we were walking around looking for the car, we thought the car got towed. We pulled up to a street that we thought it was on, and it said no parking, violators will be towed, and we were like, fuck, like what are we gonna do? Like, how are we gonna get home? The car was towed. Totally sure that the car was towed. I was like, she's gonna kill me, she's never gonna let me take the car again. Like, why the fuck did I give me up my license? Like, this is ridiculous. How are we gonna get home? She's not gonna come pick us up, she's gonna make us fucking walk. Like, um impossible, she would have picked us up, but we're pacing, we're freaking out, we're like, we start walking down the street, like trying to figure out what to do. And we stumble onto the next block, look down the block, and the car is sitting right there. We're just on the wrong street.
SPEAKER_01Um just fucking idiots, and like we're bad at that. Notoriously bad at that fucking pressure under pressure like that.
SPEAKER_00We just like totally fumbled instead of like it's like dark and scary, and we didn't know where we were. Wasn't the best area for sure, yeah. But we live to tell the tale. We didn't get the car towed. And we're still friends all these years later.
SPEAKER_01Thanks so much for opening new doors in my life.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right, right, right. The closet door.
SPEAKER_02Letting me into the closet.
SPEAKER_00Showing you the rainbow, girl. Yeah, yeah. Uh well, that's kind of all we got for y'all this week. Thank you so much for being here, Krista. Love you dearly.
SPEAKER_01Always welcome in my bed.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, thank you for opening your opening your bed to me. Pleasure as always, kicking with you, sis. Uh well, I think you're definitely gonna be another guest on the pod because who else is better to talk about drag arts with me this season? I think this is gonna have to become more of a normal thing. At least like filming the dragooning section together each week, I think would be fierce. Like, yeah, even if I have to like film an episode alone or I'm filming it with somebody else, I think we should film the dragooning section together every week as we go through all stars. Love it. Well, tune in next week for the 15th episode of Run on Sentence. Major, major moment. Um, I mean, any like rounded out number like that, I'm gonna say it's like major, like 20th episode, guys is 20, guys, 25, quarter, quarter, yeah. So uh, but it is big, you know. All of these, you know, this is this is a fun project, and any milestone is a milestone to celebrate. So tune in next week for the 15th episode of Run on Sentence, and hopefully I'll have a big old hoarder haul for y'all next week from Brimfield. Super exciting. I know. I'll send you pictures and updates as we go if we find anything cool. Uh, it'll probably be a lot of pictures on my phone of stuff that I wish I could get, but like can't actually bring back with me. Uh but hopefully I find some good stuff, but you'll just have to tune in to find out. But that's all we got for you this week. We will see you next week for everyone's favorite podcast. Bye y'all. You know what?
SPEAKER_03And another thing.
