00:00:33.280 --> 00:00:52.799 One of Jesus' closest disciples, a young man by the name of John, who was called the beloved disciple, wrote a gospel, and in his gospel he starts it this way: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 00:00:53.359 --> 00:00:55.200 He's describing Jesus Christ. 00:00:55.280 --> 00:01:03.280 And then when you get down to verse 14, it says, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. 00:01:04.400 --> 00:01:12.640 As John wrote those words under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he was introducing us to something known as --> 00:05:08.560 And it was Simon Peter who said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:11.839 He said, After two years, Jesus, I finally figured it out. 00:05:12.079 --> 00:05:13.600 You are the Son of God. 00:05:13.839 --> 00:05:15.360 You are the Messiah. 00:05:15.600 --> 00:05:21.839 And Jesus said, Blessed are you, Simon, for flesh and blood hasn't revealed after that great confession began to describe what was going to take place, rejected by his own people, that he would suffer many things, that he would be killed, and then he would be resurrected. --> 00:09:42.480 Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves, and he was transfigured before them, and his garments became radiant 00:11:35.120 --> 00:11:40.399 Mark, as he's writing his gospel, is led up to this great confession, and now he's leading us to the cross. 00:11:40.559 --> 00:11:44.879 And he says, Jesus said these things to his disciples. 00:11:46.399 --> 00:11:55.919 He said, There are some of those who are standing here who will not see death until after the kingdom of God has come with power. 00:11:56.480 --> 00:12:01.120 This is one of the most controversial texts in the New Testament. 00:12:01.360 --> 00:12:05.440 People have tried to figure out what in the world is Jesus referring to here. 00:12:05.759 --> 00:12:14.639 Some people say this is a problem in the text, but others have pointed and said, well, clearly Jesus is talking about the resurrection. 00:12:15.279 --> 00:12:20.639 That not all the disciples would pose from the grave and we see the power of God and the glory of God in the resurrection. 00:12:20.799 --> 00:12:23.039 Certainly that could be true. 00:12:23.440 --> 00:12:30.320 Others point to the Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit fell out of heaven and empowered the church in Acts. 00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:38.720 Others point to the destruction of the temple in In fact, we find it also in Matthew chapter 17 and in Luke chapter 9. 00:14:40.960 --> 00:14:49.519 This same story, all three gospel writers trying to help us to understand that Jesus is revealing brilliant. 00:18:50.319 --> 00:18:58.880 He says it was so white, the clothes became so white that there's not a launderer on earth, there's not a dry cleaner on earth who can make your whites look so
