Now that song is Should I Go by My Girl Brandy? It is off her fourth studio album, Aphrodisiac, that she released in 2004. It is produced by none other than uh Timberland. If you can't tell that beat, that's very Timberland-like. Um, it was written by Walter Milsap III, Candace Nelson, and Timberland. And um it contains a sample. I don't know if you know what this sample is. This song was not released that I know of. Um by the way, I'm gonna plug my show real quick. I will be covering this album, Aphrodisiac by Brandy, on the newest season of um replay Yay or Nay. So stay tuned for that. Stay tuned for that one. But um, yeah, Should I Go contains a sample and do you know what that sample is? If not, have no fear, because that's what this show is about. So let's check out what song she samples.

It's Clocks by British band Coleplay. Now, some of y'all may not know who Coldplay is. Coldplay is a really big, big name band. Chris Martin is the lead. Um he is, I don't know how to describe him. Him and Jay-Z are really good friends. And back when he was married to Gwyneth Paltrow, um, Chris Martin, him and Jay-Z used to frequent hanging out with each other a lot. And I I think um there's a couple of songs where Jay-Z references Chris and Gwyneth. Um, I think in Hollywood, if I'm not mistaken. But um Coldplay also um brought out Beyoncé during their Super Bowl performance. Um, so I I don't know if any of that rings a bell to you guys. You may or may not know who these people are. But anyway, Clocks is a song that I really like. And um, it was released in um November of 2002. It reached uh number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, uh, number nine on the Billboard Martyr Rock Track Tracks chart. Say that fast. Um, and then it was released in um the UK in 2003. Um and it is considered to be one of Coldplay's signature songs and is often ranked among the greatest songs of the 2000s and of all time. Um in 2010, the single was placed at 490th on the on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Um and so yeah, that was written and produced and composed by uh it was produced by Ken Nelson. Uh songwriters were Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland, Will Chapman, and Chris Martin. Um there's two versions of it. There's the album version that's 500, 500, 5 minutes and 7 seconds long. Y'all know how I love me a long song. And then a radio edit that's four minutes and 16 seconds. So yeah. I mean, when I first heard Brandy do this, I was like, I know this, this is clocks. Like, this is dope how they took this song and kind of flipped it into like an RB, a Timberland kind of like hip-hop but RB beat, and then Brandy singing over it. And the song that she's singing um is about um her stand in the industry after going through some of the things that she's going through. I ain't gonna get into it now, but going through all the stuff she's been going through at this point, she's had her baby. Y'all know it was a whole debacle about her being pregnant and then finding out she was never married and all this other stuff. Um, and it just talks about how um, you know, it used to be her and Monica and Aaliyah. This is after Aaliyah has passed, obviously. And uh she just talks about how it was them three, and you know, she's she's done a lot in this industry. She doesn't know if she should stay singing, stay in this music industry, or does she need to just go? Um, so it's a really deep personal song, but it's also dope the way that they um did it.
