Hey yo, what is up everybody? What is going on? It's your girl Jay, and we are here with another edition of the Just J pod. I hope everyone is doing well out there. Um, me, I ain't gonna lie, your girl is struggling. We'll talk about it when I'm able to talk about it right now. I can't, but I'm here for lighter things. Okay, so I hope everyone's doing well. We're gonna get to it. I'm sorry, I've been missing in action, haven't been releasing episodes the way I want to, but it's been a lot that's been going on over here, and I tried to record an episode about it, and I could not. I could not. So I decided let's make a hard left and let's talk about something that makes me feel great in this music. So today we're going to talk about um something I saw on the Twitter. Um, as I'm scrolling through Twitter, I saw that um 30 years ago, Tony Braxton released her second studio album, Secrets. Now that brings a lot of memories to me because one this was one of the CDs, first CDs I had through the um it was either BMG or Columbia House when you when you can send them a penny or pay a penny or something like that, and they will send you was it 12 or six CDs, or buy one CD, but you would get 12 all together. I maybe it was six. It might have been six that I got at first, but there were some that you will read magazines, read through the magazines, there'll be this little card in there and they'll say BMG penny, one penny for for 12 CDs and one penny for five CDs. Little did you know when you were filling that card out to get the free CDs, you're signing yourself up for a subscription to get uh a selection of CDs every month. And they'll those were add up. And to be honest, I don't remember how much the CDs were. They probably were pretty, pretty uh affordable, don't you think? Like not as a not as a college kid or a young kid who didn't have a job, but in the big scheme of things, if you think about it, I mean, were you paying you probably I think you were paying like $12.99. It was either $12.99 or $24.99 or something a month to pick six more CDs every single month. Something like that. I can't really remember what it was. I think I remember Kyle talking about this at one point, so he probably had it in his episode, and he probably knows. Shout out to Kyle. But when you think about it, you're paying for you getting six CDs for $24, which wasn't bad because most of the CDs, if you bought them on the day that they were released, um which what used to be, it used to be on Tuesdays, was new release days, and they would be $9.99. So you can get for $10, you get a CD. Um, so if you got six of them, obviously that's $60. Or you're only paying $24.99 for six. Regardless of that. Tony Braxton's Secret was one of the ones I got. If I remember correctly, I think it was Tony Braxton's Secrets. Um MC Light's album, whatever the name of that album was, that she released in '96. Um, 702, the first one. Um, which was called uh was it called Stilo? I'm not I'm not sure. I can't remember the name of their first CD. Um, what was the other one? It was Tony Braxton, MC Lite, 702. I want to say it was a TLC one, even though I had, I think I had the tapes. I didn't have the CDs. So I think I got Crazy Sexy Cool, maybe ooh, on a TLC tip. And there was one more I can't remember. I can't remember what it was. But I got that secrets one. I took that with me to college, and we wore that CD out. So on Twitter, it says 30 years ago, uh Tony Braxton released her second studio album. What's your favorite three songs on the album? And that's what we're gonna talk about. What are my three favorite songs on Tony Braxton's um album, Secrets? So, should I do a three-two-one? I might do a three-two-one, but I'm gonna we're gonna go through the track listings um and talk a little bit about the album. So um, Secrets is the second studio album by Tony Braxton. It was released on June 18th, 1996, by LaFace Records and Arista Records. Um, the album was nominated for Best Pop Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards. Secret has been certified eight times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, which is the R-I-A-A. Worldwide, the album has sold over 15 million copies in support of the album. Braxton embarked on the Secrets tour playing dates in North America, Europe from August, North America and Europe from August 1996 to October 1997. The album has 12 songs, the whole album is 55 minutes. Um, I might, I might go, I might do this for my replay, yay or nay. I might go back through this album and listen to every single song and see if I still feel the same way. Because when I tell y'all we wore this album out, we wore this album out. But, because it sounds like I'm doing a replay, yay or nay, as I'm reading this, but it has um 12 songs. Come come over here, come on over here. You're making me high. There's no me without you. Unbreak my heart, talking in this sleep. How can an angel break my heart? Find me a man, let it flow from waiting to excel. Shout out to Kyle. Why should I care? I don't want to. I love me some hymn in the late of night. Now, man, I don't remember my three favorites because Unbreak My Heart was worn out. I don't know what happened, what magic sauce she put in Unbreak My Heart, but that song would not die. Once she released that song, it was all over everywhere. It was like the Titanic song. Like you just could not go anywhere without hearing the song over and over and over again. And I began to not like it because they were just playing it too much everywhere. But it was the biggest hit she had off this album, undoubtedly, umbreak my heart. Um You're Making Me High was a cute one. I remember that video with all the cute guys on it. Um, that was a good one. Um, let me see. Y'all know I'm a sap. So I love me some I love me some slow jams. I think my top three. This is hard because I I man I know what my number one is. I just don't know what my two and three are. Okay. We're gonna start with my number three, which is interchangeable because it's probably three other songs that could be my number three. But my number three on this album would be talking in his sleep. It's it's kind of like a spoken word. She sings on it, but she also talks on it. But I don't know, it's just something about this song I really like. So I'm gonna let y'all hear like what I normally do. Let y'all hear a little bit of talking in his sleep.

Ooh, man. Drew Hall, shout out to Drew Hall, 309-311 gang or crew, or whatever you want to call her. Shout out to y'all. Man, this, I feel like I'm in my dorm room right now. Feel like in my I'm in my dorm room with this song blasted in my room on a Saturday, and I'm talking on my see-through landline phone to some dude that I met on the yard. Man, I forgot about this song. Talking in his sleep. That was my jam. It's about cheating, obviously, but I love me. I love me, a slow jam. And go from talking in his sleep to this is another one that was my jam. This one right here, um, is very sappy. It's very sappy, but you know, that's your girl. I'm a hopeless romantic who's really not romantic at all. I don't know. It's musically, I'm romantic, but the my number two on this album would be Find Me a Man. So let's hear that one.

Man, Tony's voice is something else. Tony's voice is something else. You just it's so velvety, and like the tone is just like a hug. It's like brandy. Like, if you when they get into those lower registers, it's like a hug. To me. I don't know. It is. But um, yes, find me a man. Uh, that's in my sapy era. Um, it it reminds me of Sade's um find uh someone to love. Please find me someone to love. Girl, 11 years old, or however old I was, I would be in my bed crying. Listening to Sade sing about find me somebody to love. Just please find me somebody to love. I need to love somebody. Do I really at least no? That's where my emotions would go. But find me a man is very reminiscent of, it reminds me of that Sade song. Man, I forgot how good Tony. Tony sounds good. 30 Years of Tony and that, and this is just her second album. Like, oh, she's released some really good stuff between the very first album and and her last one, which I don't remember. I don't know if the last one was um Spell My Name. I think that was the name of that album. I don't know if that was her last one, but that was a good album. That that that one. I think that came out in like 2020 or something like that. But my favorite song on this album, which I think is everybody's favorite song, because I'm looking here on my YouTube music, and this song has been played over 75 million times. Um, the highest on this whole well, not the highest on this album because uh Umbreaking My Heart is on here, and that's been played 1.2 billion times. But it's very high up, it's very high up. I don't think I love me this song. Well, I'm gonna I was just about to give it away. It's it's I love me some him. I love me some him is my favorite song on this whole album. Um, I don't remember it being released, but when I tell you it went triple platinum in my dorm room, shout out to Kim. She was dating this guy. I'm not gonna tell his name, but she was dating this dude. And I remember she had the biggest crush on him before they started dating. And she ended up, you know, they ended up dating. And so she would be, it would just be me and her. A lot of times it would just be me and her. Um, we were sweet mates, so we shared a bathroom. But we would keep the sometimes just keep the bathroom doors open on either side, and so we could hear each other or whatever. But she would be in her room blasting I love me some him. And she changed the words to I love me some blank his name. Um I'll never forget that. She would play that so much, and every time she would say his name, she would scream. She would be like, I love me some, whatever his name is. Ah, it would be so funny. So shout out to Kim, which I know is probably very embarrassing to her because she is so grown grown at this point. That was obviously 30 years ago, and uh she's you know, married, kids, all that other stuff. She ain't thinking about that dude no more. But it was so funny. And it was one of the one of my favorite, and like I said, my favorite song on this album, which is I Love Me Some Him. So we're gonna play, we're gonna play I Love Me Some Him. And I'm probably gonna let it play a little bit because that this is my jam. So if y'all haven't heard that, sit back, relax. We're about to hear I Love Me Some Him.

That is my jam. Now we gotta get to the part, my favorite part of this song, because that's when it really gets good. Um, we're gonna listen to that, and then I'm gonna end the episode because I ain't got nothing else to say about this album and these songs. But let's get to my favorite part, and then we'll go ahead and end the episode. Listen, that is my jam. When she hits that crescendo of that song, you can't tell me nothing. You can't tell me nothing. I am singing at the top of my whole lungs, because that is my jam. Uh, this is probably one of my top Tony Braxton songs, period. Now, my favorite is How Many Ways off her first album. But this is probably number two, between number two and five. Because there's some other songs that she has that's really good as well.
