That was the homie Cardi B. When I found out she did the song and she sampled my girl, I'm I guess I have to wait until you hear the sample, because that's how I'll run this show. But when I found out that she sampled one of my favorite artists of all time. Those of you who I mean, this song isn't that hard to know what song she sampled. I guess you have to, I don't know if you have to be a fan of this artist to know what song she sampled. Maybe, maybe, maybe so, maybe not. I don't know. But uh I was so happy to hear that uh she sampled this artist. Now, this this song is called uh Principle. It is off Cardi B's album Am I the Drama? Uh the song, or I don't think the song was released, but the album came out last year, 2025. And she actually gives, I mean, she gives credit to the art. Like you have to. You can't just some sometimes you can get away with taking people's music and then say you're doing interpolation or you're sampling and think nobody's gonna know. But there are certain artists that you can't even breathe the same way without them like having some kind of credit on it. It's just not gonna happen. You're not gonna be able to do it. And so she gave this artist credit in in the liner notes. She gave this art c artist credit on the song, like it's featuring this person. Um, so Cardi did what she needed to do. So um, love this song. I thought it was a an amazing way to reimagine this song, to remix this song, and um fit it into uh a a Cardi B, a Cardi B style song, I think is super dope. I really do. So um hey, without further ado, we're gonna go ahead and listen to what what this song is sampled. What song is sampled in here? And we know, at least I know, I'm very excited to hear it, but let's go ahead, just in case y'all don't know. Now y'all know I I wanted to play that whole song. I would play that whole song. It is it is my jam. It is my jam. I love this song. Janet Jackson, if you don't know, this is this is Janet Jackson. The song is The Pleasure Principle. This song, this is my favorite video of all time. It is it is full, it is just Janet in this warehouse dancing around. It looks like it's supposed to be like some kind of loft or studio apartment or something. I don't know, but um, excuse me. But it is just her dancing around in this little warehouse thing, but she is she is getting to it, y'all. She she's wearing this blue jean jacket, these tight blue jean guest jeans. She's wearing like these, I don't know what you call these shoes, but they're kind of like high top, I don't know what kind of shoes they are. Some very like uh low sole, um high top, some kind of sneak or something boot. I I is I can't remember what what type it was. I do remember she had on a jean jacket. I do remember she had on the black uh shirt that was tied up with uh some words on the front that I couldn't make out. She had her black um her black hair with the with the bangs. It was almost like a mullet almost. Um, but it was just her dancing around, and I fell in love with that song and that video. I definitely, I tell the story all the time. I definitely was in my cousin's basement trying to run and jump um on the chair and make the chair like walk over the top of the chair so the chair falls down, but I jump off and definitely almost kill myself. Definitely try to do the backflip off the top of the uh off the top of anything that was around. Um it just brings back I used to know this whole root you could not tell me. I used to know this whole um routine um it just it it brings back a lot of memories. I really, I really do love it. Um here we go. Um so let me get to some information because I'm I'm over here wilding out. So um this came off of Janet's third studio album, Control. The song came out in 1987, and it was recorded in October of 1985. Um it is an RB song built around dance pop, a dance pop beat. The song has been included in two of Jackson's greatest hits, Design of a Decade and Number Ones. Um, it received positive reviews from music critics and was a modest commercial success in the United States. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hop 100s. The single also peaked at number one on the dance club uh songs and hot RB hip hop songs charts. The Pleasure Principle reached the the top 40 in most markets, but failed to match the international success of the previous singles of control. It peaked at number 50 in Australia and number 35 in Canada and number 24 in United Kingdom. But the video, y'all, the video brought it home for me. I don't care who liked it, who didn't like it, what acclaim it had, what it charted. I do not care. That song and video is one of my all-time favorites. Not my favorite song. Um, I love it. It's my favorite video, but it's it's right up there with my next to my favorite song. It's a song that came out in 1987 that I still don't know all the words to. And I don't care to. That's just how I am. I there are songs that if they didn't come with the with the words inside the little case. And y'all know back in this day I couldn't even have Janet Jackson stuff, so there was no way for me to know the words. So you just make up your own words. And I've been singing the wrong words for what is it, 30, 40 years now. So am I gonna change it? No, I'm not. The words are gonna be whatever words they are, so anyway, that is all I have for you guys. That is all I have for you guys this week.
