Hey yo, what is up, everybody? What's going on? It's your girl Jay, and welcome to another edition of The Just Jay Pod. I hope you guys are doing well out there as always. Um, today, today we're gonna talk about clubbing, going to the club, bar lounge, whatever you want to call it. Um, the reason why I decided to talk about this today is because I was recently invited to uh one of my coworkers or friends or whatever, um, his birthday party. And I have not been out like late at night in so many years. Like, I just don't do it. My thing is these days, I if I'm gonna go out and drink, um I'm gonna day drink and then do whatever we do. Go to different places and drink, go to restaurants, go to bars that are open, probably go find some kind of amusement thing to do, whether it's playing games or escape room or just something like that. And then I'm back at home by eight. And I'm feeling good because I've been drinking, I've been having a good time. But that those times are very far and few between. I have not been able to do anything like that in a very long time. Um, shout out to COVID because most of the places that me and my friends used to frequent are no longer around due to everything that happened with COVID. They shut a bunch of places down, some places never recovered, and we don't have those places anymore. And honestly, we just time time passes, you get busier, and we just haven't been out enough to find our spots anymore. So I don't even do that. But it it was it was pretty funny because his party started at 9 30, was at this at this bar, um, a bar and it's like a pool hall. Um and they do karaoke on Tuesdays, and so um it just brought back a lot of memories. Like at first I did not want to go because 9 30, like I should be coming home, not going out. So by the time um it came around to go, I was sleepy, and so I was like, man, I just don't want to, like I'm sleepy, I'd rather just go to bed. I have to work tomorrow. I don't really want to do it, but I missed his birthday party last year, so I just decided to go. So I got there, I think I got there around 10:30, 10:30, maybe close to 11, probably 10:30, and I said I was only gonna stay till like 11:30. And I hung out, had a good time, had some drinks, watched him do karaoke, got him a shot. Um, had a I left around midnight, a little bit after midnight, stayed longer than I thought I was gonna stay. But in doing that, it just brought back memories because I used to be, I don't know if y'all know this, I used to be a um a karaoke queen back in the day. And so thinking about those memories and talking to people and telling them like how I was sleepy and I didn't want to go out, and I was just thinking, like, man, back in my 20s and early 30s, I used to be out here. I used to be out in the streets, having a good time, partying. And so I started to reminisce about all the different uh clubbing days I had. So that's what this episode is gonna be about, is is remembering those days. Now, my memory is not the best. Call it old age, and not old, like old and decrepit or anything like that. It's just for women, I don't know if y'all know this, for women, you hit a certain age, and you ain't gotta be 50 or 60. Sometimes when you're in your late 30s or early 40s, you can go through this thing called perimenopause. That's a different episode, but you start to have memory loss, brain fog, you get hot, hot flashes, mood swings, those type of things that that you would think that that you would associate people with going into menopause. But talking to my doctor, he's like, no, it can start at it can start at 32. It can start at 35. It just depends on how your how your body is made up. Some people go through it, you know, go through that starting early, and they don't hit menopause until 60 years old or something. I don't know. But again, that's a story for another day. But your girl got brain fog, right? So I'm gonna try to remember as much as I can um about these clubs that I went to. So my earliest memory of going to a club is in college. Shout out to Prairie View AM University in Prairie View, Texas, which is right outside of Houston. Um, my freshman year. I'm 18 years old. And uh, well, you know what? Before that, oh my God, what was oh, what was the name of that club? There was a club or a bar. Was it Angelo's or was that the liquor store? Angelo's or JR's. I don't remember. There was like this hole in the wall bar lounge when I was growing up, and like when I turned 18 or something, right before we were getting ready to leave, me and my friends went there. It it was not my vibe. It was very like dark, and just people sitting in there smoking cigarettes, no good music is playing, and I'm just like, why are we here? This is gross. So that was my first memory of like 17, 18 of whatever that lounge was. And this, and I lived in a very small town, so we didn't really have anything like outside of that. So I'm in college, my freshman year. We have this club called Um The Oasis. And if you're from Houston and you were living in Houston in the late 90s, early 2000s, you might have heard of this club. Now, they used to promote this club a lot on 979 the box, which is also a a uh radio station in Houston. And so we would go because it we would go because it was an 18 and up uh bar or club or whatever. And so most of us who are freshmen are either 18 or 19 years old. You want twenty you weren't 21. And so um I remember going there. This again, another hole in the wall spot. I don't even know why this was the place to go. Maybe because it was closer to us. Because on my campus at PV, you're literally in the middle of nowhere, nothing's there, it's just land. Now it was built on uh it's built on a uh former or previously whatever plantation. I mean, this this is in Texas and in a rural part of Texas, and so you ain't got nothing out there but land. Like there's literally a street called Plantation Street or Plantation Something. You you it was actually houses that were still on certain parts of the land, not the school land, but if you're driving past it, like plantation houses still out there. Very crazy, very crazy. That's also another story I I can tell. Going to school on the grounds of a plantation, but nothing was out there. So we had to travel to Houston to go anywhere, and Houston was probably like a 45-minute drive. And uh, I just I don't know, I guess Oasis was the place that everybody wanted to go to. So you would go there, and again, it was just some dark hole in the wall spot, except they play good music. And I remember this guy, shout out to Derek, rest in peace. Um, I I kind of remember first meeting him. I don't know if I've met him at Oasis, but my freshman year roommate and my freshman year suite mate, they at some point were dating these two brothers. I'm not gonna say their names or anything like that, but the brothers, the the younger brother, which was my roommate's boyfriend, he had a best friend named Derek. But Derek was cool with the whole family because I think the brothers were only like a year or two apart. And so everybody was like that whole little crew was very close. But I remember meeting Derek, having the biggest crush on him, and everything like that. And uh I I remember at some point at Oasis, they played um um Mantel Jordan. Uh is it girl, can you tell me what song tonight? I forgot the name of the song, but I hate it for other reasons, but I don't like it. But they played that song, and that was our first dance, and that's what I remember about Oasis, is because me and him danced, slow danced to this song, this Montel Jordan song. So there was Oasis. And really, that was the only place we really went in college because nobody wanted to drive way out there, and I didn't have a car. So if I wasn't riding with somebody, I really wasn't going. And I'm the type of person where when I'm ready to go, I'm ready to go. So I do not like necessarily riding with people because you might want to stay till two. And girl, I I was ready to go home like an hour and a half ago. And so I just never really went. Plus, we had um once I got with my Michigan people and our organization, Michigan Club, uh, we just hung out and partied off campus at one of one of our people's houses. So I really didn't need to go to the club. But Oasis is one of the clubs. Fast forward to after college. Um, I'm living on Dunvell and Richmond. And if y'all know Houston, you know it's West Timer is the main street. Um, and then the next street over is Richmond. So Richmond and West Timer are very, you know, well-known streets, large uh um major streets. And Dunvell was one of the cross streets, and my apartment was right there at Dunvell in Richmond. Well, on Richmond, there was this club called T Town. T Town was this big building on Richmond. I don't remember the cross streets, but it was probably like maybe eight or nine blocks away from my apartment. And uh we used to go there, me and and my friend CP, shout out to her. We used to go there um on weekends on Fridays. Fridays, they had most of the clubs were like free before nine, ladies free before nine. Most of all the clubs were ladies free before nine, then they moved it to free before 10, then free before 11, and then um it just after a while they just uh stop doing free. Period. But um, some of them will will fluctuate. Sometimes it'd be 11, sometimes it'd be 10, sometimes it'll be 9, sometimes it won't be like ladies get in free all night. And the reason they do that, obviously, guys go to clubs for the most part because of the ladies. So if the ladies are getting in free, then the guys are gonna come and buy drinks. I think you know that's kind of what their thought process is. But we used to go to T Town Friday nights, right after work. Um, I think at this time, I might not have been living on West Town, on uh Richmond and Dunville. I think we had me and my friend, because she was in nursing school, I had just graduated. Um, but we were roommates because I hadn't, I was in a management program, but I hadn't quote unquote graduated from that yet. So I didn't have a lot of money. And she was in nursing school, so she didn't have a lot of money. So we were like, why don't we just be roommates and we can help each other with with bills and stuff like that? Cool. So on Fridays, we used to go to Tea Town at like six o'clock because they had this thing where um you show up after work and they give you a buffet. I think drinks were like either 75 cents or a dollar, and you had this free buffet, like literally free. You come in, buy your drinks, get your food. Around uh about eight o'clock, they start playing music. The the buffet would be between like six and eight, I think. Six and seven: thirty. Then they would clear it and then start playing regular club music, and then you know the club will begin. And we would stay there in our business casual outfits because it was after work. So you would show up in your business casual because it's after work, and we would party until two o'clock in the morning. We would get there at six and stay at that club till two o'clock in the morning, shutting the place down, dancing the whole time. Like people don't do that anymore. But we used to do that, and then had the nerve to go to go on West Himer at the end, near the end of West Timer, almost to where you're getting to the galleria. There was a restaurant, if I'm not mistaken, a restaurant is called Chewy's. If y'all've heard of Chewy's restaurant, but I I I think it was a Chewy's, but Chewy's was either didn't close till three or four in the morning or they were 24 hours. But that's what everybody would congregate. Now, this is on this is near the galleria in Houston, so it's kind of like central, central Houston. Um, I don't know how, but we would always see like our friends that we went to college with, friends that we work with, friend, like it was kind of like as big as Houston is and it's huge, you would all it, you would go there and just it would be somebody there you know every single time. And then you'll see your friends and it will save you a seat because the way it worked, you stood in line, you ordered your food. You would have to find a seat. They're not seating people, they're just they're just letting you order. You get your little plate of food or your little tray or whatever, and now you got to walk around, try to figure out where to sit. So we would try to have people go there early if they can, get us, get a seat, and then we would order, and then we would just hold that table and it just revolved like different people will come and go, but we always had that table. All right, I'm leaving. Somebody else would come in and sit down and eat. That's part of our friend group. And we would do that until we went home, four o'clock in the morning. We did that every single weekend. And Chewy's was like a staple through the years because we had we had um T Town. There was a club that was behind, I want to say a Randall's off Westheimer near the Beltway. I can't think of the name of that club, but we used to go there on Fridays and Saturdays, have a good time. It was a double um a uh two-level club. We used to go there, hang out. Um, I remember a lot of my my friends from college would be there. A lot of my Michigan people would go to that club. We had Grooves. Grooves was like um Grooves was like a brunch spot. So you could go there and like club, but we never went there as a club. We would go there Sunday morning. Um, sometimes after church, sometimes we didn't go to church, but usually after church, go to grooves. They're playing like really cool, you know, jazz music, like the little instrumentals, and they have a little buffet, and you go out there, you sit out there and have a good time and kind of groove a little bit with the music you eat. We had grooves, we had um, we had uh, oh, Scott Gertner's Scott Gertner Sky Bar. Now that was fun. That was off of Montrose that was like midtown, um, Houston. So that was this giant building, but at the very top, I don't know who Scott Gertner is, but he owned a few things. He had a sports bar and he had this Sky Top Bar. But you would go there Friday or Saturday. I can't remember. I must have had weekends off because I was always out Friday or Saturday. But you would go there. They also had an afterwork buffet, and I think we started going to Scott Gertner's um exclusively and stopped going to T Town. This might have been some years later, but um, Scott Gertner's is when you felt like you were grown because this was more it was midtown, so it was near people's work, their work downtown. Everybody was some kind of dressed up. It was a beautiful lounge. They played live music. Um, it was like these little cocktail tables, like you could stand up on the table, stand up on the table, stand up around the table. You had your your seats, everything had like a little candle on it, um, or you could stand in the back. It was very like if you think about a cool lounge from like a movie, that's what Scott Gertner's Skybar was. Um, you had to take an elevator up. Sometimes it'd be a very long line, but you get the elevator to the top, you come in, they check your ID. I don't remember if we had to pay to get in. But as soon as you walk in, look to your left, the person is whoever the band or a person is up singing there, and then you get all the seats for the rest of the thing. And then in the very back is the patio. So you go outside, and on a beautiful night, you see all the skyline of Houston lit up. It's it's it was beautiful. It could be romantic if you were there like with a date, but it was very grown and sexy because everybody was dressed up. There were, you know, all the guys, all the girls were dressed up in their business casual or their suits and stuff after work. Go there. They also had a buffet. Um, and so they would have that going until probably around 9 to or 8:30 or something like that. And then it would be strictly just a lounge. I remember, oh, I can't think of her name. Uh Cecily, Cecily, I think is her name. We went to college together. Um, she's actually one of my best friends, Line's sister. So that's how I knew her. But we we took classes together because she was a business major as well. But um, after college, she started to pursue music. And so she would book gigs there a lot. So it's it's several times where we would go and um watch her perform, which that was pretty cool to see. But they had Scott Gartner Sky Bar. Then we went to the sports bar one time to watch some UFC. I didn't really like it. It's more, it's more like just restaurant type thing. Like they do have TVs all over the place, but it's nothing like upscale or nothing you had to dress up for. It was literally a sports bar. That's all it was. Nothing, no bells or whistles. And it's it was like it was popular, but it you had to wait so long to get in there, especially if it was like a fight or some kind of big game on. So it was like not even worth going. But we went a couple of times. It was all right. But I liked the sky bar better. We also had Red Cat Jazz Cafe, which is what you would expect. It's a kind of like a restaurant. They had booths and tables, and you would listen to live music. Um, they would play jazz there. It's pretty cool, very again, grown and sexy type place. Um, that was the early era of me being in Houston. Um, T Town, um, Chewy's, I can't remember the club behind the Randall's, um, the Sky Bar, the sports bar, grooves, um, all those types of places. Red Cat. That was early. Then we start moving on, and I'm not really going in in order, but when I moved into my own apartment after having a roommate moved into my own apartment, um we there was a club across the street from me. This is on I-10 near Highway 6. And it was called, I think it was called Drink Houston. If I'm not mistaken, I feel like the people told me wrong. There was a Hush, not Drink Houston, Hush. Drink Houston was further down I 10. Hush was supposed to be like this just exclusive, top of the line, very elegant club that I'm trying to figure out. Why was it in my part of town? Because my part of town, highway. Six and I-10 Park Row area. It's nothing really out there. Like, it's just, you know, if you drive a little further down, you're at like Katie Mills, you're getting into the KD area and stuff like that. Nothing really was out there like that. But um we had Hush, and I remember a friend of mine used to work there. She was a bartender. And so we used to go in there and shut it down because we were there very uh early on when it first opened. So we knew the owners because our friend worked there. We knew the owners, we knew everybody involved with it. We would come in, we didn't have to pay. We felt like VIP. We would walk in, have a good time. This was a three, three-level bar, three or four levels. But they had like different one big, huge, like when you walk in in the middle of the building, it's just one big, huge club. But if you go up the different levels, I don't, I don't remember if there were different rooms or it was just different levels where you could stand and just look down and see the dance floor and stuff like that. I don't I don't remember that much about it. I just remember going there and having a good time, feeling like a an uh VIP, getting carried out of the club. Yes, your girl definitely got carried out of a club once or twice in her time, probably more than that, because your girl used to turn up. I didn't have a care in the world, I didn't have responsibilities. I go in there, get super drunk, and thank God I had good friends with me because they would make sure I made it home safe and nobody was left behind, and they made sure nobody was talking to me uh crazy. It wasn't any craziness going on. But yeah, we would we would be there at Hush. We went to drink Houston a few times. Um we back okay, later on when I started hanging with my other crew, Tiff and Allie, Caesar, and all them. We went, oh, I can't think of those places. There was a place downtown. I would never forget that we went there and it was supposed to be, oh, who was supposed to show up? Was it supposed to be it wasn't supposed to be LeBron James, it was supposed to be some basketball player that was in town. And I want to say it was because the all-star game was that week, that weekend, the NBA All-Star game, and somebody was supposed to show up. They were advertising that this person was gonna show up. And so we got there, we were hanging out. We went there a lot. We met some guys, got into um VIP, and we're just waiting to see who this guy's gonna show up. I forgot who it was, but they never showed up, or if they did, we were we left before they did show up. But we used to go there a lot. We used to have our they used to have photographers in the club that would take your picture, and then if you go to website, you will see it. So I don't remember the website. I wish I did. I wonder if our pictures are still up. But again, business business casual was the whole the whole entire time. You you showed up between like the late 90s to the mid-2000s um in your business attire. Business, business casual. That's just what you wore. So yeah, I definitely had my slacks on, my button-up shirt, some heels. I definitely, definitely had that on in most of my pictures. Um I can't think of the other names, but there were definitely other clubs. There was one club in Katy, it didn't last long, but I remember having my 29th birthday there. I was saying goodbye to my my 20s. So I had a really big party. I I rented out. I ain't rented out, but I got a VIP section with the bottles and everything. And I had planned to have my birthday party there. So yeah, I invited a bunch of people. We all hang out in VIP, have a good time. And again, I'm carried out of the club because your girl was gone. And I remember what I wore it. I had on some white, white um dress plant, dress pants, slacks. I had some Kenneth Cole gray and white peak toe heels. I will never forget it. The gray I still have those shoes in my closet. Now you can't put them on or wear them because they're gonna fall apart. I don't know why I still have them. I might I might have given them the goodwill already. But I had these, they were gray, patent leather, the whole shoe, and then the the heel part was white. Wasn't a stiletto, but it was it was a pretty decent size heel. I had so I had those gray and white heels with some white, like white, white um slacks, and then I had a gray tank top, but the front of it was sequin. Maybe the back was too. I don't remember, but the front definitely was sequined. So a gray top, white pants, gray and white heels. I thought I was, I thought I was the hot, the hotness there. Like, you couldn't tell me nothing. I partied my heart away in these white pants. I'm like, who goes to a club in white pants? You can get all dirty. I did not care. I didn't care. I had a good time. Um, friends carried me out, had my heels in their hands, and kept me home safe. I had a really good time. Uh later on down the line, we got rock bar. Rock bar is exactly what you think it is. It's a rock place. Like I started going there with some of my other friends because I like I'm an eclectic girl. I like different types of music and different types of types of scenes. This one probably wasn't my best because you got people in cages. Like, exactly what you think when you think of rock bar is that people in cages. The the bartender has like this giant um mohawk that's spiky. Everything is dark, everything is dark. Um, but I had a good time. I was out with some friends. We had a good time, didn't go back there too many times, but um, it was an experience. Um, this couple, which this is how oh oblivious I am, like or naive. Um, I don't remember how old I was, but this this white couple, the girl came to me and said, Oh, I think you're so beautiful, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, oh, okay, thank you. You know, don't get too close to me or whatever, like, like that. And she's like, she said something like, her and her husband have been looking at me. And I'm like, okay. And she was like, We want to know if you would be our third. I didn't know what that meant. So I'm like, I don't know. Well, first of all, it didn't sound right. So I'm like, No, I'm good, thank you. And I just go about my way. And so then I tell my friends, I was like, that lady just was, you know, telling me she wanted me to be her third. Like, uh, what does that mean? They was like, girl, they were trying to take you home, like to be with both of them. I was like, what? What kind of establishment are y'all taking me to? What is this? No and no, I'm good on that. Um, I thought that was interesting. Um, so we got rock bar. Then when we get I get a little bit older, I'm not really going to clubs anymore. Um, we got all the bars that are on Fry Road in Katy. And these are just bars. So we got Frankenstein. Frankenstein's more like uh more like a um restaurant, but they did karaoke, which I'll get into in a second. But you had Frankenstein's, you had Einstein's, you had New Orleans or Orleans. Um, then you had oh, what was the name of that big club that was on Fry Road? I can't remember the name of it, but I do remember, oh, I was wilding out, y'all. I'm not even I was wilding out. I was doing things I should I I'm not proud of of there. I've kind of uh kissed a couple people um randomly at at bars, some guys, and then I uh the next day or whenever I get to see them in person because some I wouldn't remember what they looked like. And so I meet them in person. I'm like, what the hell? Why were y'all letting me do that? That's gross. Had to stop that. Um, but you know, I was 25 or six or something, something crazy like that. I didn't I didn't really care too much about stuff like that. I don't know why. But yeah, I did stuff. I I did that. Um, I remember a South African guy headbutted me while we were dancing. I don't remember what that club was, but uh we were dancing, and I think he's a yeah, he was a white guy. And I just remember us dancing, he was like, You are so beautiful, and I'm like, Thank you, or whatever. He had this curly hair, it was like short, curly hair, like almost uh, I don't want to say like a mushroom cut, but it wasn't it wasn't long. It probably came to like his ears a little bit, and he just kept swinging his hair, and so we're dancing, and then he freaking swings his hair and literally headbutted me. I almost pass out, so I stopped dancing, and I'm like, okay, we're we've had enough. He's like, No, where are you going? No, no, no, no, we're good. You stay over there. I tell my friends, this man just headbutted me right now, and I don't even know. I feel I feel like I'm about to pass out. I'm dizzy. And they were like, okay, enough of that. But we always laughed at that the South African headbutting me on the dance floor. That was pretty funny. Um uh what else? What other club? Einstein's Einstein's was cool. Einstein's was like a pool hall bar, they played live music. I'm a music girly, so I like listening to music, but we would go there, listen to live music on Friday and Saturdays. This is during a time I had a different job, but I was off weekends. And uh they there's this band called Infinity's Twin. I would never forget them. It was a guy who played an electric violin. I used to call it a fiddle, but a violin, and it would be so dope. I thought this was like one of the best bands I could ever see. I would always be there front row every time they performed. Um, I I had met the guys, I knew them. They gave me some merch. I really liked them. I would go there every time they perform, I would go there. But that was during a time where we kind of had, I kind of had a um a routine. So I would, I was working overnight at the time, and I worked Sunday night through Thursday night. So Friday morning, I would get off work around like about eight o'clock or nine. I would go home, go to sleep at some point, wake up around five or six, take my shower, get dressed, go to Applebee's, because I had I met a bartender there. His name is Jared. Shout out to Jared, such a cool guy. And I would go there so often, me and him became really cool. And so he would know exactly, like he knew what time I was coming in, and then he would already be, you know, have my order together. He would give me my drink, and then he would make drinks up because he, you know, he was a bartender. He was like, Oh, I want you to try this drink. And we would do this every every Friday. And there were regulars at the bar. I always had the steakhouse burger, um, and then whatever drink he made me. And probably around like nine o'clock, because I would get there and eat and drink. I'd be done about 7:38. And then my my best friend at the time, Tiff, she would come meet me. We would have some more drinks, and then we would go to Frankenstein's because at nine o'clock or nine thirty, they started karaoke. And so I don't remember the old guy's name, but we used to do karaoke, me and my friend Tiff. We were a karaoke group. We called ourselves Ebony and Ivory. I was Ivory, she was Ebony, she's a white girl. We just thought it was a cute play on words, and we would perform. And like we we used to go there so often, again, like the guy ran it running a karaoke thing, we wouldn't have to wait in line. Like, we come in, say our hi to our friends that were there, and then when we were ready to sing, we just go up to and say, Hey, hey, Ed, whatever his name was, Ed, we're ready. And he would he would put us on. Like, we didn't have to wait. We were like little celebrities there. We had a good time. We would do that until about 11:30, and then from that time we would go to Einstein's, and then we would be there until 2 a.m. And then from 2 a.m. we would go to at 2 a.m. we would go to IHOP. And then we would eat at IHOP and then either go back to her her house or we would just go our separate ways. But we did that every single weekend and just have a good time. That's uh, you know, I was out there, so yeah, by the time I got to um I don't know what age, 32, 33, maybe, I was done. Because I was good, I have been going out consistently since graduating college. I was out almost every every weekend. Um, and I don't remember having to work. And if I did, I don't think I cared, which is crazy. Because today I can't even stay up past 10:30. And I'm like, oh my God, I'm not gonna get enough sleep to go to work. Like, oh, there was this place called, oh, it was a it was a country bar. Oh uh not blazing saddles. That's that's uh that is a movie. The broken spoke? Something I can't remember. Oh my god, it's it's driving me crazy. But I used to go there with some other groups of friends, and these some of these people were people I work with, they had uh 25 cent drinks on Wednesday. Wednesday, y'all. I would go there on Wednesday night, get my 25 cent drinks, do the boot scoot. I don't know what I'm doing, but I have a thing. I love cowboys. It's just I don't know. I just think maybe I've been in Texas too long. I I think they're attractive. Um, some of them, not all of them, but I just something with the hat, the the tight pants and the shirt and the boots and the big belt buckle. I don't know. And a lot of them are very nice. A lot of them are very like, yes, ma'am. They take their hat off and greet you, they open doors, they do whatever. And so I don't know. I'm at the country bar having my drinks, and I'm just boot scooting with cowboys for the most of the night, having a good time. Um, and then I go on my way. Um, the the name of that place is at the tip of my tongue, and I can't remember it, but that was that was a funny place, cool place to go. Um, let me see. What oh, when I was turned 21, um, I was working, I was still in school, in college, but a group of people that I worked with that I did not know were gay at the time. Um, not that that mattered, but um, I realized it was only like three straight people working there, me and two other others. Everybody else was lesbian or gay or whatever. And so um they said, hey, we're gonna take you out on your 21st birthday. They were cool people, like shout out to Bex. I don't know if she's still around. Bex, um, Bex and Christine. Christine, Iris, me, and then we ended up getting um Monique. So four of us were straight. Everybody else that worked there was not. And there's probably like maybe five or six other people. This is where we I worked at Natural Wonders, which is no longer a thing anymore, inside the Willowbrook Mall. And so they was like, we're gonna take you out. Um, and you know, because I was like, I don't know, I was very naive as a kid growing up in a very small town, didn't really know much about LGBT, anything, um, only what you kind of heard in church, and we never even got to get into those things. But um, but I was just very naive. And so it was an experience for me to even meet and know people of that community and then be cool with them because I was always taught that you're not supposed to be, you know. And uh, it was just a cool experience because they were really cool people, like it wasn't about their sexuality, I just thought they were really dope people, but anyway, like we're gonna take you out on your 21st birthday and take you to all these different gay bars because I've never been to one or whatever, and they just thought it was funny, and so I remember uh there was a place of riches for those of you way back in the day that used to live in in Houston. You probably know remember riches. This is all on Montrose, by the way. Montros is like a whole um section of Montrose is all just gay bars. Um, Montrose, there was the barn, there was, it was like three or four other um bars, but we hit all of them, had a good time. I found some more cowboys who just happen to be a couple, I guess. I don't know, but I didn't care because what does that matter to me? I still think you're cute. And I can dance with you, and you can buy me drinks, you can call me beautiful, and I don't have to worry about anything. Like I feel safe, you know? And so we had a good time there. Um I probably hit up every single, almost every single club or bar between the years of like 2001 to like 2000 and maybe 10, 10, 11. Because I was out there, I had a good time, but um, yeah, those days are long gone. Those days are long gone. Just um going back to when I said that I can't believe that I was out and I still had to work if I had to work. I don't remember having to work the next day. I do remember one time I went to that country bar. I had started at this new place, I got transferred over there, and one of the people working there was getting ready to move to Dallas. And so all the new managers was like, hey, you should come with us tonight. We're gonna go to this thing, we're gonna send her off, and you know, we're all gonna hang out or whatever. And so I was like, Yeah. Um, I hadn't met the boss yet. Um was no, that had to be on a Sunday. It had to be on a Sunday, it wasn't on a Wednesday, a Sunday night. I had to work at 7 a.m. I won't forget it. And I went out with them Sunday night, had those drinks, overslept, got to work at nine o'clock. My schedule was seven to five. I got to work at nine o'clock. My boss was so pissed, and he was like, Wait a minute. And I'm like, okay, I've been with this company for at that point seven years. Seven or yeah, about seven years. Yeah, this is your first time meeting me, but I've had a good record all seven years just because you just met me. That don't mean anything. But we never had a good relationship after that. It's that's another story for another day. But yeah, he was so pissed at me. And then I'm looking at the other managers, like, thank y'all for getting me drunk and then expecting me to get up and be at work at seven o'clock. Oh my god, I can't believe y'all did that to me. But yeah, I remember that. But that was really the only time. Um, there were times uh Sherlock's Sherlock's was another place, uh a restaurant, but it turned into the club after hours. Kind of like if y'all, I don't know if they still do this. Is it Applebee's? Applebee's at certain at a certain time on the weekend, like eight o'clock or nine, they would bring a DJ in and then play music and stuff like that. But this place, Sherlock's, which is an Irish pub, but um, they would do the same thing. They it was a bar, restaurant, but they also had a big dance floor, and um we would uh go there and have a good time too. I remember Sherlock's. I got really drunk one time going there and uh yeah, coming to work the next day, still drunk because we stayed up. I had to work at 6 a.m. and I think we didn't leave until 2 a.m. And I still made it to work and I worked my whole shift. At that point, I was working uh eight hours, so from 6 to 12. Um, I did okay. I was all right. If it felt no, it was six to two, but I you know what? I did leave at 12. I did end up leaving at 12 because I was like, I'm super tired. I don't have any more work to do. I'm just gonna leave. And so I ended up leaving at 12. But yeah, man, those are the memories of of me clubbing. There's so many more that I can't even remember. I'm getting flashes of. Of different places that I've been. There was a sports bar. I can't remember. I had my birthday party there too. I remember I I remember I used to have a lot of people come out and hang with me because I I met a lot of people at work. And then I had my college friends, and then them together. We just used to have a really good time. There were several different friend groups, but um, whenever we got together, we had a good time. So I can't think of anything else too crazy. Oh, I do remember New Year's Eve, we're going to a club. Um, I think it was me, my friend Tiff, um my friend Caesar, his girlfriend Allie, our friend Jose, and his girlfriend at the time. I can't remember. It was a bunch of us. And we were pre-gaming at my house. And so um we were getting ready to go to the club. We're trying to get there. Now it's New Year's Eve, so the bell or whatever, the thing is gonna drop at midnight. We're literally trying to race there at 11:30 to get to this club. Well, we have been drinking most of the night, and so we have to go to the bathroom, and there's nowhere to go. So we pull over at these offices where it's a bunch of bushes, and like we get out to go. And that wasn't anything that was unique either. It's it's it's several times when you gotta go, you gotta go. So you you try to find a decent place to go and and you do your thing. Sorry, that's just the way it was back then. Like, because most gas stations wouldn't let you go in, and where we were going, we didn't even have gas stations. Um, like you had to buy stuff to go to the restroom, but where we were going, we didn't have gas stations near. So we would just have to find a spot that was private and do your thing. And so I remember being behind a bush going and the police roll up because we're in this office, this vacant parking lot, and we're being loud and crazy because we're a lot of us have been drinking already, and music is going and all this other stuff, and it's 11:45 or whatever. And the police pull up, shine their lights, and I'm sitting there like behind this bush, trying not to be seen. But I'm also I have to go to the bathroom real bad. So it was it was crazy. The police didn't end up doing anything, they uh end up talking to the people that was still in the card. I don't even think they saw me, but their little flashlight was was flashing right on me. So I thought they saw me, but I guess they didn't. But I remember being terrified, like I'm about to get arrested because I'm like my pants are down. Like I'm gonna get and they know I've been drinking. But thank goodness that didn't happen. But um, yeah, we end up getting to the bar, and all of us have to go to the bathroom again. We get to the bar like 11:50. All of us are in the bathroom. We have to go, and then like right, we can hear them counting down 10, 9, 8. And we're still in the bathroom, seven, six, so like probably like five seconds left. We're all done. We're running out on the floor, and I finally say, Happy New Year. We made it like right in time. It was crazy. That night, that night was pretty crazy, and we had a good time. Can't remember the name of that bar either or that club, but yeah, we had a good time. There, there are lots of memories. So, yeah, your girl used to be out here living it up, having a good time. And, you know, like I said, once I got to a certain age, doesn't I couldn't do it anymore. And frankly, I've done enough where I don't have to do anything ever again. I'm happy sitting on my couch watching TV. I don't need to be out at the club. Frankly, I'm at the age where I shouldn't be at the club anyway. Like that's for the young kids. I like to be on my couch watching something on TV with my feet kicked up. I might have a glass of wine or some kind of drink here and there. And like I said, I might go out and day drink and have have a good time during the day. But I don't really go to I don't really go to bars and clubs that much anymore. Um, yeah, well, I might have to do a part two because as I start to remember other ones, I know we used to travel to San Antonio to go to clubs, we used to travel to Austin to go to clubs, and then once I moved to Austin, there were some places that I went. So I might have to do a part two. But I hope y'all enjoyed my stories of me being at the club because your girl lived a life. Even though she's a homebody now, I have lived enough and I've I've put in the work where I don't have to do anything else. So no, I don't need to go to the party, I don't need to go to the club, I don't need to be up past nine o'clock. I've I've been there, done that, and I'm cool. So that's all I have for y'all today.
