SPEAKER_06Yeah. Makes sense. Makes sense. So uh we started off with a combat. Yeah, we rolled right into it. Rolled right into it. Literally for initiative. What would you guys what'd you guys feel on the combat?
SPEAKER_03It felt kind of hard for some reason.
SPEAKER_06It is by challenge rating, it was like you guys were at level. Like that was like a medium encounter.
SPEAKER_03It was just it felt like we hadn't done combat in so long that I felt like, what do I do? Yeah, I felt a little crunchy on it too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I felt like well, it was a weird one because I was like, I have a theory about what happened. And I was like, but I don't want to like kill people before I really know what happened. Yeah. That's it. Um, so I was like, I definitely didn't go as hard as I could have. Yeah. Um until the very until literally the last round. Yeah.
SPEAKER_0340 points of damage.
SPEAKER_00Where I was like, I'm going to spend three focus points this single round and just unload.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 40 points of damage non-lethally.
SPEAKER_00I'm going to use hand of harm and do necratic damage non-lethal.
SPEAKER_01It's yeah, it's also like when like we know that this is the last fight that we're going to have in the day, and like you can kind of just like unleash everything. That too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I use my two level two spell slots.
SPEAKER_04Same. Same. I use sorcery points, which I don't normally do. What? I know. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_00That's your whole thing.
SPEAKER_04Well, I like to okay. The hard part with having cool stuff is like, do I use it now or do like I don't want to use it up and then be out of it. So sometimes I try to hold back to keep, you know, like product management, I guess.
SPEAKER_06Anytime I play a video game and I get like a potion, I have the potion throughout the entire game. Exactly. I never use them just in case I have to use them, which I never do.
SPEAKER_03Yes. I was happy this combat. I think I figured out how to use Clanky in a better way. Um, because now that Patch has his double attacks, which counts as a bonus action, it kind of makes uh Clanky not as useful all the time. Um but so I was glad I was able to kind of use him as a ranged weapon. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um your double attacks they count as a bonus action.
SPEAKER_03It says my thing says that um I can take another attack as a bonus action.
SPEAKER_00That's a third attack.
SPEAKER_03What?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, because you you get multi-attack as an artificer. Let me pull up your character sheet too. We can do this off mic, but um, I think that you should be able to attack another time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think I think artificer, I think battle master.
SPEAKER_03Mine says extra attack. I can attack twice rather than once whenever I take the attack action.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Yep. That no bonus action needed.
SPEAKER_03But then I have something else that says bonus action.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so that would be a third.
SPEAKER_00I think I think you can take if you use but I think you're using Clanky as your bonus action.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I have I haven't been using Clanky because I'm like, oh, I only have X.
SPEAKER_04We're playing with one hand behind our back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's true.
SPEAKER_04And we're still crushing it.
SPEAKER_03Well, anyway, I'll look at this. But that's that's what I had to say. Hell yeah. I I I think it was Oh, I found it. Sorry. What is it? When it's two weapon fighting, when you take the attack action on your turn and attack with a light weapon, you can make one extra attack as a bonus action later on. Oh, so I have both of them.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you have both. Yes. So you can the extra attack has to be with a different weapon.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so that's maybe that's why I haven't been using it because I only have my hammer.
SPEAKER_00It's the same as with Clanky, though. So that you can take you could take two attacks with your hammer and then Clanky can also attack. Yeah. Great.
SPEAKER_04That's really cool.
SPEAKER_06Well, now that we figured that out, uh huge rose to to Matt in that fight. Uh Little Kiss on the forehead.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
SPEAKER_06Um, Rex's character was like a good blend of like it was a dramatic moment for Rex that was funny also. I thought like him being like, what? No. Like not listening to anyone, uh, I thought was a really fun. Like I like that. I like expressing the character in a way that's very dramatic for the character and also dramatic regularly, but also funny. I thought that was really good.
SPEAKER_04I really liked um I think also the payoff of the fur the earlier two episodes in the interlude where you were kind of being um confronted with your like rich rich boy, like Nepo baby son uh part of your life. And then like it mostly as humor, I feel like, but then in this fight, it kind of came out more emotionally, like more with more anger, with more like, oh, I actually can't stand um Valdrick and I want to kill him. And like I think that that was a really satisfying um progression of that part of your character, and like again, making it more important, making it mean a lot to you rather than just like, oh, this is the scene that Rex is, but like it actually had stakes and consequences for him to like open up that part of himself and deal with that a little bit, which brought all this emotion into him. Um, and then I thought I I just was ha then happy to be a part of that moment with you during the fight of like you getting really mad, wanting to kill this guy, and then Lucy like having to or having an opportunity to kind of talk you through that a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I'm happy that I would have uh told Spencer non-lethal if if I had connected. Yeah, I think you know, uh Rex missing and then you know, actually like doing enough damage with the cli with the Grays to kill him makes it. I mean, if you were like you know, if this was a movie or something, that that's really cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um but yeah, I I made the decision like a minute before uh like because I think you two Janice and Lucy went before Rex, and I was like thinking about like how is like what am I gonna do? And I was like, this guy's just so he made his choice because he's so obsessed with work, and then I was like okay, and maybe that's Rex's motivation then because his dad was so obsessed with his loved that was throwing that in there, which was like not something that I'd really like thought of of him like not being there for Rex's mom when she was dying. Oh, that was so good. Yeah, just trying to like find some. I I think this whole thing is like finding finding your way and like finding the improvising like the reasons why behind a lot of things. Yeah, yeah. And so I was like, yeah, Rex has resentment for his father for wanting him to be just like him. This guy is like him, or you know, this guy is trying to looking up to you know Rex's father, yes, and being like taking out the anger and the rage that he has for towards his father on this guy. Yeah, that's which was fun.
SPEAKER_04It was really great.
SPEAKER_06That's really sick. Big fan. Hell yeah, hell yeah. Um, we also had the uh bit with Bale down in the the the snow where he wasn't like he really he really wanted to be on your side, but I felt like as a DM, I was like, I feel like he can't just be like, Well, I'm on your side. Like it felt like there had to be some role or something.
SPEAKER_00It was so fun. I loved that it just wasn't clicking for either of us. Yeah, it was one of those things where it's like it's like roll I rolled fives for like all of those persuasion checks, except for one where I rolled a four. Yeah. And it uh honestly, it just tickled me every time where I because it just gave us this like like I don't know, it just felt correct that it took Bale a really long time to come around. Yeah, yeah. Um and just seemed very earnest of him being like, I work here and like this seems right, and I don't really know what's going on.
SPEAKER_04Um and I know he's an asshole, that's not a surprise. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_00He's like, I get that man, but like, you know, you can't just defend a werewolf who committed a murder.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh it I thought it was fun and funny to keep failing those. Um, I could have failed a few more times. Uh yeah, I thought it was fine.
SPEAKER_04I thought platonically, the chemistry between Vanis and Bale again was like so sweet and fun, of like that same idea of like, or almost like Captain America and and winner soldier, even though canonically gay. Yeah. Um, but I feel like just in that sense of like, I love you, I'm here, I'm not gonna fight you, and then it's like the other person's like, I'm still fighting you, and it's like you have to be there to be like, I'm trying not to fight you.
SPEAKER_00Well, and it feels it felt like let me just get through to you. It felt exactly like that scene in The Princess Bride between Wesley and Andre the Giant. Um, which where it's just like you seem a good man, I hate to kill you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it it like, and because you had taken the time to be like, hey, what are you into Bale? Like, what do you like to do? Like that was I I was excited about that because I wanted Bale to be like half a red herring, where it's like, okay, well, he's wearing wolf fur. Um, he he if if like you had inspected his cloak, a little bit of the hair would be missing, and that's the wolf's hair you found was planted there. Um like uh uh I was like he's a big guy, he could easily throw. I think you said when you first met him, like, oh, he could throw someone against a wall. Um, but you like taking the time to be like, oh, he's just kind of a sweetheart. I really like that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was just two nice guys trying to do what they thought was right uh and fighting, like I would like I think Janice would have like, once Katya was out of the way, like honestly fought Bale in the most gentlemanly way way possible.
SPEAKER_06I'm glad he didn't, but I think I think if Katya was out of the way, Bale would have been like, okay, man, like let's just talk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh I don't think that there was a world where you guys you have to like put down Bail or anything.

SPEAKER_06But the um, let's see, let's see.
SPEAKER_04There are four head kisses.
SPEAKER_01We'll say the one other thing that was for Rex, because I think there's a lot of stuff towards the end of the episode to chat about. Like Patch and Lucy Shelby. Shelby.
SPEAKER_03Shelby. We're we're gonna get to Shelby. I wanted to I just wanted to say that's all I want to talk about.
SPEAKER_01I think I was very curious about Rex and the rubric. Yeah, I think that opens a whole lot too. Different side of being like Rex has been taking all of this in, and it and it is so um uh you know, I I can't think of the right word, but like, you know, the the the people who are creating this are divining what will happen. And yes, you know, the test that he will be taken, but then this is the first test that he's done that doesn't feel heroic, yeah, you know, or that he's been tasked with. Yeah. Whereas in the past it's all been like, you know, it's been like save the town or yeah, kill the dragon. Yeah, yeah. And so like that's the like who watches the watchman kind of vibe of it. Yeah. Um I think about that. That's so cool. Yeah. So like who is giving Rex this stuff and like Rex is I think that it puts a chink like a uh is it chink in the armor for like what should I even still be doing this? Totally.
SPEAKER_00Who's yeah, right, who benefits? Right. Was it corrupt? Like, yeah, I was like, oh my gosh, is Ruby secretly evil? And then I was like, oh my gosh, was Ruby like corrupted somehow? Or oh my gosh, was the person who is giving Ruby the information like secretly a bad guy?
SPEAKER_04Because I didn't even I didn't even think about the fact that like the I was like, oh, this Ruby this is just for Rex's development, not like someone is using Rex's power to achieve their dastardly deeds. Like whoever is giving Rex those tasks is like using your abilities to do something. And then and it could have started super benignly, because like heroically, and then if it becomes stuff that it becomes, you know, more gray, yeah, more gray or like more to whatever purpose they have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, my that's really great. My theory right now is that it it is corrupted because Ruby had no knowledge of it or anything. And so that's the I think that's the thing that Rex is now thinking is being like, that was strange. I've never failed one of these, so I d you know, I've never seen the fail state of it. This might happen every time. Or there's something something amiss with Ruby.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um and I mean it definitely sounds like maybe a Mogus-esque, or who what was the name of the the hand of the uh Mogus guy who Janice was Hexus? Hexus? Hextus. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Pete.
SPEAKER_01Pete Hexas. So that's that's all I had to say. I was very like, that's a fun thing to explore. Yeah, that's very cool.
SPEAKER_06I'm glad you like that. That's fun. We'll see. We'll see. Um, yeah, I I I was when I gave the task to like get your revenge, I was like, I wonder at what point they're gonna read into this. And I'm glad that it happened the way that it happened. Um, I think that's fun.
SPEAKER_00This is so good. This one's oh, I also want to talk about Patch's ability.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_00Because that was another thing that I'm trying to piece together.
SPEAKER_04Did you know that was coming? No.
SPEAKER_00Hashtag shatter. The ability was called shatter, right? Yeah, Chloe.
SPEAKER_04After you shattered the phone. How did it be?
SPEAKER_06To be fair, Chloe told me that Patch was thinking of shattering the dish dish horn.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, oh, it was that crazy group mind right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. If that had been completely organic, yeah, like I would have been like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. But it and it's interesting. I'm I'm trying to like piece together like, well, mirror image is a cool spell. One, it gives you three doppelgangers that are that you can use to protect yourself, basically. And I'm like, how does this intertwine with fate or unknown, unnamed, yeah, yeah, true god of patch? Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is it a trickery thing?
SPEAKER_00Phoenix. Phoenix! No, see that's Patch's sugar daddy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I I'm like Phoenix. You were it's absolutely closest, but I didn't even think about it.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, I told I told Spencer, like right after um Patch first had his crash out. Like, I think that the next step, you know, what his instinct is is he wants to cut himself off from the outside world, which is, you know, why he's been so chill in this, you know, valley that's been cut off from the outside. So now that he's going to exit, we'll see how that goes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and destroying the thing that he was most proud of. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06But Chloe, Chloe said uh to me via text, like right after the session, said, uh Patch is basically about to do a lot of self-sabotaging. I think he's going to break his dishorn. Oh, which is really fun. Called shot. Called shot. Yeah. I I want to give a kiss on the head to all of you because I think that um you guys have found and like made like a pretty cohesive group theme of duality. Like like Rex has Mogus in Erowas, Janice has like the healing and the harming, Patch has like these clothis, but also maybe not, and just like this want to be a hero and also a villain. Yeah, the want to be just to find who he is, and Lucy has like you know, the human and the god, demigod, you know. Like I think that you guys have found like a really cohesive narrative with each other.
SPEAKER_00Patch is also literally Patch is half goat.

Like, I think she exists mostly for the moment of her demise, because it's like that's a big thing in a kid's life is like letting go of their imaginary friend. Um and so when you were talking about like what is the thing that levels you up? My first thought was like, oh, it's that she lets Shelby go, is that she's gonna kill Shelby.

SPEAKER_04But then I thought was like, well, maybe it's just that maybe it'll mean more if you get to know her first, I guess, or like if I just drop it first before I kill her.

SPEAKER_01You're telling me that you created 23 episodes into this, an imaginary friend, where your godmother, your god, comma mother, god colon mother, said, I think in a previous episode, like, I've been with you the whole time, and you're telling me that Shelby is not like a manifestation of Clothis.

SPEAKER_03I was like, who I was like, are you talking about like, are you getting your ascending stone out?
SPEAKER_04Like that was also in my on my mind is I think that that that's coming at some point is Lucy's gonna phone a friend. Um I haven't decided yet whether that's gonna be Titus or if that's gonna be um Casilia, but I think she needs uh some external processing with someone that's not in the group. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. But yeah, I'm I I'm really excited about Shelby. I hope she doesn't die too soon. I hope you keep her around for at least a little. Because she's she's in your pocket. She'll you'll only she'll only exist when you speak to her. Like she won't be like, and now I'm here.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Um no, I think you're right. It yeah, it definitely opens up more fun. Actually, I'm already thinking of like fun things to be with. Did you know though, Shelby? Uh yeah. Spencer texted me, I don't know, a couple weeks ago, maybe at this point and said, Does Lucy have an imaginary friend? If so, can we hear about her?
SPEAKER_06Just because I feel like wonder why.

And there there is some stuff coming up where it's like, you know, what you guys believe and what you you know, what you think is real versus what is real is is gonna be important. SPEAKER_04No, that felt like early, early Lucy. Uh, like, oh yeah, I know these big wolves, they do this thing, like creating a whole little bit of moment. So I'm glad that you brought that back. It made me very happy.

Um and so then to see what cracks kind of form from that is really exciting.

SPEAKER_00I actually don't know yet how Janice is gonna like reintroduce himself to his family now, because now he is yeah, he's he's moved a little goth, he has neck tattoos, he's wearing his glasses again, which is gonna be unusual for his family to see. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, Midas is is strongly Irish. Um Yeah, so I I think it's gonna be really fun. Uh and I'm and I want to delay the decision of like, is Janice gonna because he just gave Patch a hard time for lying to his sister. So I'm like, I'm like, is Janice gonna lie to his family about like what's happened between him and Farrica and try to brush it off like everything's fine? Or is he uh or what you know various other options?
SPEAKER_03He made an enemy, both are good.
SPEAKER_00Is he just gonna be like really open and like that, you know, it is what it is.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I do think Midas should be Irish. That helps you.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean Janice is Janice is full elf. Absolutely. I yeah. I thought I I almost before we revealed our true ages was gonna make Janice 113. Um, which is like 23 in elf years. I decided he's actually 23, but um I was very close to being like, no, he's hun, he's over a hundred, he's just an elf, so he's you know, presents as 20 something. Yeah. Um so but Janice's parents can be however old Janice's parents are.
SPEAKER_06The way I like to do like elf aging is I like I think it gets so messy when it's like this race lives for a hundred years before they're like technically an adult. Yeah. I think any of that is like cultural, and it's more like everyone reaches about the same level of maturity at 18. Yeah, I agree. Like uh and then you're just older for longer. Like you just you age slower from there. But like you don't have to wait a hundred you don't spend fifty years being like red ball. Yeah. Right. I I th I thought how kids say red balls.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, I thought of it of just like, you know, the elves are really deep into education, so Janice has been in school for the past hundred years, but like this that's the standard length of time that an elf goes to college.
SPEAKER_01That's funny. Yeah. I'm uh I'm excited for um the relationship between like Janice and Rex to continue its little like thing with like Rex deferring to Janice on a lot of things of like listen, I gotta be a hero for Janus right now and um interested in seeing like where that goes.
SPEAKER_00I'm interested as well because I I don't know where Janice's compass is gonna fall whenever he like things that Janice knows is that like Farrica isn't the cause of whatever is happening here. Um so there's gonna be some level of Janice, Farica actual cooperation. Um and I don't know how Janice is gonna treat whatever the actual cause of this is. Um and if he'll decide to be as fair as he was with uh Katya as far as being like, no, like the justice system, like I could get another kill here, but like I don't know that she did anything wrong.
SPEAKER_03I don't want to, you know, do something without a But the justice system always works out and tells us that.
SPEAKER_00Well that's that's the I think it's Janice's devotional system.
SPEAKER_01About Janice is so clearly like a lawful good character, and then you have to be neutral, neutral with regard to Farrica, but then it's also like then you're gonna get like okay, death is like I don't know, bad. You know what I mean? Like and I think it's fun when it's like when you're questioning the morality of something to then have another person to check with to be like I don't know. I think it's gonna it's it it takes an internal emotion and makes it an outward emotion of being like, is what is this good? Is this what should we be doing?
SPEAKER_04I'm interested to see um like Rex's perspective on a family unit like with a a present father figure and whether he's gonna want to be uh want to get approval from Rex Janice's dad or if he's gonna hate Janice's family and hate Janice's dad.
SPEAKER_00I I'm interested to see everyone's reaction to it because we haven't like we've seen families in various forms and like relationships of them, but we haven't seen like a healthy one. No, or just like one whole unit like we or alive. We never really got to see um Lucy and uh Facilia like in their home at the same time. Like we're gonna go into like the hometown, home life, a full unit, like real family.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and it's gonna like directly reflect growing up in that environment. Because it's gonna be, you know, childhood home. Yeah. Uh and yeah.
SPEAKER_04And right, who is Janice in front of his friends when he has a lot of people?
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, is there gonna be some regression? I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I think it's gonna be really fun to like, you know, I'm not saying there's gonna be no conflict relating to your family, but like seeing these people who all have weird relationships with their family. Yeah, like like them all interacting with your seems pretty normal, at least from the outside nuclear family. Um would be interesting. I'm like dying to see how everyone interacts with those parents.
