TOQ-Back: Ep 34
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The cast talks about their big battle with Trioctus.
I'm gonna jump us right into it. Welcome back to the talk bag. Hello.
SPEAKER_09Back to the crack open one and hold it into the start. Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_04Get a bottle of prosecco in there.
SPEAKER_13Can we crack that into the mic? Ah, hell yeah, man.
SPEAKER_04We got Sarah cracks the bottle over the mic. We're gonna get we're gonna get some more pour. We're gonna get some pork. Is it some porn fizz?
SPEAKER_13Now that you've gone pee, will you start pouring the prosecco?
SPEAKER_11I couldn't hear it at all. I also couldn't hear it. It's because I talk really loudly, and so my mic's not that sensitive, probably.
SPEAKER_13We are celebrating um we're celebrating our friendship. Our friendship. Lucy got a promotion at Lucy's job.
SPEAKER_09From from assistant manager of the orphanage.
SPEAKER_04Generally, the wild thing is Lucy's actually the owner, so Lucy promoted herself. Yes.
SPEAKER_11Well, Lucy's been giving herself pretty low performance reviews. Yeah. So really that it means a lot to Lucy. Yeah, not a lot of people.
SPEAKER_13I think Shelby's been doing it too.
SPEAKER_11The dead one? Oh, Shelby.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, Shelby's been giving you uh Shelby's the president of the orphanage.
SPEAKER_11That's a little app to Lucy that she would. So many people that I gotta keep in Lucy's brain.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, welcome back. Uh we have uh uh uh we're gonna be talking about the episode that we recorded last week, which is 34.
SPEAKER_04Dramatic.
SPEAKER_13Is that what it is? I've lost count of the numbers, and I sometimes use the numbers in my notes and have to like pull up Spotify.
SPEAKER_04I do scroll. Yeah, I'm very on the numbers now because I'm trying to to um getorize all of our videos for f for posterity in the drive. Which I've been calling I just did it today for the first time, the talk box. Nice. I like that. These are hard to like thaw.
SPEAKER_09Like the squawk box? Yeah. It took me a long, like, a long time to build up the habit of like actually labeling my stuff and on my end, which makes things a lot easier. Like I have like, you know, six sound effects that are just called punch. Yeah. So I had to change it to like punch, good punch. You did it. Small punch. Oh, yeah. That's nice. That's helpful. Yeah.
SPEAKER_13I feel like I was really on top of what episode we were on in the first arc because I was like, yeah, we're ending on episode eight. Like, that's such an easy number. Like, halfway through, we must be on four. And then immediately once we got to Ariaks, I was like, I don't know where we are.
SPEAKER_09Well, because they we changed lengths, like the first one was eight, and then I think Ariaks was like 13.
SPEAKER_11Also, the interlude kind of fashion. Yeah. It's like it's like when you're skipping stones. Yeah. But I think in reverse. Yeah. Wait, just when you skip stones, does it go short, then longer, then longer, then longer, then longer. Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure. Okay, so we're we're in reverse of that. We're we're reverse skipping stones. I we can look at it right now. Because they're all they they they literally can see on the title of the video they're watching what episode we're off is.
SPEAKER_13Leave it. Sound off in the comments below what episode you think it is.
SPEAKER_09I was gonna say, because if you don't know, it's available on all streaming platforms. I don't know if we've been selling that enough that it is that we are available for streaming.
SPEAKER_04And if you're if you're listening to this, you there's no way you know that.
SPEAKER_09Right.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. If you're listening to us on Patreon, um, you should really check out the main podcast too.
SPEAKER_07Actually, there's got a lot of do you think we have any fans that are just listening to the talk backs, which start at like episode 28.
SPEAKER_11There's gotta be people that are just into BTS.
SPEAKER_07Who are like, I just love your KPS.
SPEAKER_13Some really confused K-pop stands who are like, this is not what I wanted.
SPEAKER_11It must make the searching pretty hard when you're like, I just want a music. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, then we also have like the interludes, which are like two to three episodes.
SPEAKER_11If you Google BTS, what comes up first is trying our quest and there's no part, at no point do we say BTS like in this episode.
SPEAKER_04No, but it's all SEO, baby. It's all SEO, it's ruined. Yeah, we uh we yeah, we I because I do it every week, is put it put it on YouTube and then on Patreon, and I have to look at how I format it every single week. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Oh, in order for it to be to be the same.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_13Well, speaking of uh always wanting things to be the same and not accepting change, let's talk about uh General Trioctus and this episode.
SPEAKER_09I mean, I want to kind I want to give you such a big uh rose, Spencer. I think you played him like very well. Thank you. I felt I felt bad for him. Like I I really got that like he was too far gone to be saved, and I thought you did that very well. Yeah, I appreciate it.
SPEAKER_11I want to give you a rose uh for like the reveal, uh not just like how you revealed it, but the that that plot point about him being the one that was behind and obviously still a pawn in the larger game, but you know, getting to the bottom and actually finding the box and finding a father there, like trying to bring his dead son back, that was pretty moving.
SPEAKER_09Not pissing on his son's grave, not pissing on the son's grave.
SPEAKER_13He probably did that earlier.
SPEAKER_04No, he was pissing on another person.
SPEAKER_11He was, but it was to fidelizing soil. Oh, you're exactly the B corner, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_13Because he wasn't leaving. No, no, no, he was hanging out there while you guys rested in your fucking hut.
SPEAKER_09He was casting press vegetation. That's what I wanted to ask you, is or maybe you don't want to tell us, but if we had chosen to go to go straight into the catacombs, would he have been in there?
SPEAKER_13Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Okay. So he was just sitting there for four hours.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, he was just like, he was he was just posted up four hours.
SPEAKER_09It's only been four hours.
SPEAKER_04I mean, it had to be probably at least once.
SPEAKER_13Probably what it was like logistically, there's probably like an alarm he has set on like part of the tower.
SPEAKER_09So he was like on his switch until he saw we got out of the switch. Yeah. His Steam Deck. He was playing Pocopia.
SPEAKER_11I'm sure this is not how you picture it, but in my mind, I was absolutely picturing us going down the like in national treasure in the first one with the big elevator shaft, and then they go through the other room and they go through the door. Like that in my head was it was that plus a little bit of um uh Indiana Jones.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I had to cut out your your Nate Cage impression. You had to? Because it was too good. I I do I will say I had to cut a lot out of that episode just because it was it was so long. Like my like pre-cut version before I got you know serious about it was like two and a half hours. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_13So it was we're we're looking to cut down on episode length, and it's gonna happen. It sometimes happens, and sometimes I had to kill a lot of babies.
SPEAKER_09At some point, we'll get a clue. There we go.
SPEAKER_13That was good. That was really good. It might be in there, it might be like you under like Spencer saying, I rolled a uh uh yeah, Trioctus originally in my perception of him, I was like, okay, he'll just be like maybe he was on their crew, and then I was like, it makes no sense that he would be in this elevated position in this town if he like just got back to the world like a couple years ago. And so I was like, ah, I guess I have to give him his own motivation, but I'm glad that he had a separate thing because I think it made it better.
SPEAKER_11I mean he's got a really great motivation for just a well, let me see if I can find one for him. You know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure. So it felt like the way it felt like you built the other stuff around him. Yeah, if that is anyway, when did the war end?
SPEAKER_13Um it like 30 years ago, but then they were like, I have it written down. Yeah, they they like only return from their like Odyssey um their what? Their eurosyce. Yeah, euroses. Um, like sounds so dirty.
SPEAKER_04Euryphyses trousers? No, it does.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, come on, it does. In what way?
SPEAKER_09What would that refer to? I was so in her euriphy.
SPEAKER_12That was that eurypheries was the most disgusting shit I heard in my life.
SPEAKER_09I think that's probably how I was thinking about it.
SPEAKER_02No, I was I was just saying what Sarah was thinking.
SPEAKER_04Tech bro, you said that I was dressed as a mafia's middle child, mafioso's middle child. Yeah, same thing. Yes, that's what I was going for.
SPEAKER_09And yes, that's because you were reclining, but now that you're sitting up, it's changed. No, it's undershirt is the mafioso part.
SPEAKER_07It's but it's also the one Superman uh hair that curly hair in your gold hands. I can't get that to stay.
SPEAKER_09And your handsome chest hair. Oh my gosh, Matt.
SPEAKER_12You are looking hot today, and we've all noticed.
SPEAKER_04I'm wearing my carnet.
SPEAKER_09Now say that sentence again.
SPEAKER_04Um I was so up in her euros. I was in her what was it? What's the phrase?
SPEAKER_11I was so far up her euros.
SPEAKER_04I was so far up her euriphys.
SPEAKER_08You put on your barables.
SPEAKER_04Guys, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna keep saying it if it's grossing you out. But if I didn't like it, I didn't understand that it was grossing you out. I would have never done that. I would never have done that to you guys.
SPEAKER_00Thank you, Matt. Thank you.
SPEAKER_04I've fully become the tech bro now.
SPEAKER_09You are a tech, you're not a tech bro, but you're a tech bro. You're a technology. You're like a brother of technology. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I fucking hate that idea.
SPEAKER_09Just like how Patch is a brother of technology. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04He's okay with it.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I'd rather be a tech no.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_09Techno.
SPEAKER_13I have to give uh spec?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_13Any other?
SPEAKER_09No. No. Are Caladeus?
SPEAKER_04Uh are you guys done with your meal? Check? No.
SPEAKER_02Nice. That's good.
SPEAKER_09So does that mean that Caladeus and Eurifon in them are all like 70 years old?
SPEAKER_13They're like, they're in their like visibly probably like 50s to 60s, because they were young during the war. Um, and that was like 30 years ago, and they got back probably like 10 to 10-ish years ago.
SPEAKER_07Oh, that's right, because the war ended 30 years ago, but they went on that whole thing. Yeah, that whole eurphicy. That whole eurosy, yeah.
SPEAKER_11Hey, do you want to make out peck? No.
SPEAKER_07But not I was gonna do what about a chicken and a pecno. Ah, that's true. But mathematically, Triactus would be pretty old.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, Trioctus is probably a good solid, like, yeah, seven, but he's like a svelt 70. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Maybe if at the when he kills his son. Let's just say 30 years ago, that makes him 68.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, if he had his son at 20, his son was about 20 when he killed him. That was meant he was 40. 70, yeah. So now he's about 70, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And he was tough.
SPEAKER_09I think I was probably picturing him a little bit older than that, but that makes sense. Yeah, I was I mean, yeah, I was picturing him like an old bald man.
SPEAKER_04Were you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I was picturing him as old.
SPEAKER_04I wasn't. I was picturing him how he probably appeared to Janice as a child.
SPEAKER_09I was picturing him as like an old football coach.
SPEAKER_13He was definitely in my head, he was J.K.
SPEAKER_07Simmons to the I was just gonna say that. Yeah. I was gonna say in my head he was J.K. Simmons, but for whatever reason.
SPEAKER_09I feel like he's old.
SPEAKER_07I but for whatever reason, J.K. Simmons is J. Jonah Jameson in the first spider with like the flat crew top and like the That's how you pictured him? Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Wow.
SPEAKER_07That's cool.
SPEAKER_09I was picturing like Jack J.K.
SPEAKER_11Simmons. Speaking of that haircut, though, I was picturing the guy, the bad guy from the first avatar.
SPEAKER_13Um, Steven Lang?
SPEAKER_11Is that who his name is?
SPEAKER_13Yeah, General Miles Quarich?
SPEAKER_11Yeah, from the James Cameron Avatar. Oh, I can't believe you. I was trying to think about big scene.
SPEAKER_09He really fucked up.
SPEAKER_04I was like General Xiao thing after after a thing that's already very good.
SPEAKER_09Well, because he was general and then he got promoted. What was his name?
SPEAKER_13He was General Miles Quarich?
SPEAKER_09Yes.
SPEAKER_13Well in college, I had like stayed up late with friends one night and like watched Avatar on No Sleep, and I thought it was fucking awesome. And then my my good friend, who was the editor of the school newspaper, and I was an editor under him, we we decided when Avatar re-released to go see it, and he hated it. He would write a negative review, I'd write a positive review, we do dueling reviews, but then he ended up liking it significantly more than he remembered. Yeah. And I ended up being like, oh, I didn't remember that it was low-key, high-key races.
SPEAKER_09It's just poke hot. I didn't remember that they fucked with their hair. I thought it was dances with wool.
SPEAKER_04That's the only thing I remembered.
SPEAKER_09It's all of them, but that's all I can think of when I picture it, so I'm like, I can't take this seriously.
SPEAKER_13There are moments that are like dope as hell, and then there are moments that are just like James Cameron opened an encyclopedia to a random indigenous tribe and was like, oh, I'll take that.
SPEAKER_11And let's have the white men go and save them. Yeah. I like Titanic.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_11I like Titanic.
SPEAKER_04Titanic. Yeah, Titanic needs a reboot.
SPEAKER_07I like Titanic.
SPEAKER_08Nothing needs a reboot.
SPEAKER_07Go see Titanic on Broadway. Yeah. You can do that. Do you want to go? It needs a rehole.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'll go.
SPEAKER_07I love it. Great.
SPEAKER_04I love that. And I also want to see something called chess the musical.
SPEAKER_13It's awesome.
SPEAKER_09I heard that the book is good, but the direction is not very good.
SPEAKER_13That's I would say the book is better than the book for chess has ever been. Not to say that it's necessarily great, but the direction is bad in the setting.
SPEAKER_11I would I yeah, I would say based on the story, I don't want to see it again. Based on the music and the singing, I will see it four more times.
SPEAKER_13That's been the story of chess, no pun intended, because that is a song in the musical. Um that's been the story of chess historically.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, that was the best part, was just the performances were magnificent. If you're in if you were in New York or you're coming to New York, you want to see chess the musical.
SPEAKER_11Shane and ask one of us to go with you. We will.
SPEAKER_04No, Shane and I will.
SPEAKER_11I will ask Spencer or Sarah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so I can't go with Shane. He's already seen it.
SPEAKER_13Uh Matt, you can go with me, buddy, because I'll go with Keep. I'll go with the Shoe. I was gonna say, I think we've all seen it now.
SPEAKER_04Sarah can come too.
SPEAKER_07Because I went with Chloe.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_04I love the idea, and we could do it as a Patreon bonus thing of the case. Where we like talking about the camera.
SPEAKER_11We got the kit, we're recording in the audience as it's happening, and that like they come with the last light.
SPEAKER_07Leave it on your lap and get the worst angle ever reactions.
SPEAKER_12Matt keeps going. Now do dashboard confessional. Echo not dashboard.
SPEAKER_13Um what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that's what I was gonna talk about. You were gonna give a rose to someone.
SPEAKER_13I was gonna give a rose to you popping into the yeah, you were gonna give a rose to someone. I mean, it's even I was gonna give a rose to you uh teleporting into the coffin and like exploding it from the inside. That was cool. And especially I was like, when you did it, I was like, well, I know the guy, Loki, not alive in there, but yeah, undead in there for sure. And I was like, that's not good for Lucy, because like what if he like gets her and then she's just down in the coffin? Yeah, and then you just popped it open. It was so cool. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_09This just the visual, like mental picture of that is so cool of like seeing Lucy disappear like in a flash and then like the coffin explode. Yeah, this, like, you know, probably I don't know how heavy things are, but 200 pounds or even giant lid cards.
SPEAKER_04You wanted to get into that thing bad.
unknownOh, really?
SPEAKER_04You were trying to get it all up in that.
SPEAKER_11I was trying to like, I didn't want to keep attacking him. I wanted to attack the thing that he cared about. Yeah, so that's why I was going after his son because I was like, that'll get him more than like anything that I would do to him. No, I don't I didn't realize that's why you were doing it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, which is funny you say I thought you got like bored with the normal fight, and you were just like, I want to fight somebody. I mean, always I thought you, but I thought you knew he was coming back to life, so you were trying to get him.
SPEAKER_11No, it was because I want because I wanted to get at Trioctus emotionally more than I wanted to keep hitting him physically. Yeah, because I because also like um I don't know, like I at that point I wasn't convinced that we had to kill him, you know? Yeah. So it was like that'll stop him in his tracks.
SPEAKER_07Oh, Janice was gonna kill him no matter what. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11And that's fine, and I figured that, but I was like, um, and so it's fun. Sorry, I was gonna say it's also fun when you get a new spell to have a reason to like use it for the first time, and it'd be like a really fun, cool.
SPEAKER_13Oh man, when you cast Webb finally, that's gonna be so good.
SPEAKER_06The build-up.
SPEAKER_13Right. Let me actually write that down.
SPEAKER_09Spencer asked me what I put for the recap.
SPEAKER_13I was like, I was giving everyone like a cool moment in the recap and I couldn't remember what Patch did. I was like Rex.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you did cool shit.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I think. Rex the Legend.
SPEAKER_13I really liked we'll talk about you in a moment. Because we are currently on Patch's sacrifice.
SPEAKER_04Oh, Patch's Patch's sacrifice was that's cool. Oh, I wanted to talk about that. That's the rose really. And that was a rose for you.
SPEAKER_13That uh Patch sacrificing himself and Janice. Genesis 2, like first him saying that Farrica's Farica was more of a test than a an assignment was so cool. Um, like, regardless of like whether or not that ends up like if if if she shows up and she's like, nah, it's an assignment.
SPEAKER_07No, you're wrong.
SPEAKER_13But his understanding of it. Your understanding of it, and even if like you actioning that going forward of being like, no, it's a test, fuck you, like that's that's so perfectly contrasts you with Trioctus in a way that it was like I always I wanted you guys to by the end foil each other. I was like, well, Shane will figure out how they do that. And you did.
SPEAKER_07Well, because yeah, because Trioctus, it really was like the uh like Janice and Trioctus were both given some version of like the trolley problem. Yeah, um, and they made different decisions about how to go about it. Um and so it was like I'm gonna highlight Janice's choice and uh and put it against Trioxus' choice and really make it about the decision that they made and how they chose to go to move forward with it. Um and because a lot of it was also I was like, I can either go that route of like the conundrum, which since Janice was a philosophy major, I thought it would be fun to which I is also done intentionally. Um what you hate philosophy majors?
SPEAKER_10No, it just made me laugh. Like, of course. Yeah, you you knew that. I think Shane Shane a couple times.
SPEAKER_04Shane, there's so much in your head that you don't say out loud, and it's so it's so pretty to watch it come out in like the way that you do it.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, it really does match. Like, because like Janus has mentioned that he's a philosophy major, and that's not something that like we we constantly track, but it makes sense like thinking back, like he does bring it up a lot. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04What I'm trying to say is you're so fucking locked into your character.
SPEAKER_11I also think that it's funny that the major matches up with your character's personality because a lot of times people major in things that have nothing to do with what they like to think about or talk to about it.
SPEAKER_13Lucy majored in agriculture systems, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_11It was like, well, Lucy was a business major, so I just like to think about business. Right. That's why she's always on her on her grind too.
SPEAKER_07I was actually thinking of it being more of a joke because like Janice's whole deal is being given this like philosophical, like literally being given the trolley problem. I've always and going no. Yeah, and and then going no. Um and so I it was kind of in there like as a joke, because his whole deal is like this philosophical issue of balance and uh are you gonna would you kill a bunch of people to save a bunch of people? Um but that's to say like with Trioctus, because Janice and Trioctus, the other way I was thinking about going about it or like highlighting the discrepancy between Janus' choices and Triocactus' choices was like a god told Janus to do one thing, he said no, and Oracle told Trioctus to do another thing, and he went for it. Yeah, um with this with this idea that he couldn't have possibly said no to this, right? Um and so in that sense, Janus was his direct, like made a different choice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Janus is divergent. Oh, does that mean that we in a neurological way?
SPEAKER_09Does that mean that we as oracles can just go around telling people to do things and say that they're prophecy? I don't know if we're oracles.
SPEAKER_13I I think if you put enough smoke and mirrors up around it, like you could.
SPEAKER_09Janus is an oracle.
SPEAKER_11Janus is But I would thought it like in a different context. We're not like we're not fortune-telling oracles, we're like I don't know.
SPEAKER_09But we're warrior oracles, we're chosen by the gods. You know, like because the it was a priest who tricked Trioctus. It was just a frickin' priest. Oh, yeah. That's embarrassing.
SPEAKER_13He was stars.
SPEAKER_11He didn't have any sort of leprosy or anything.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, maybe I mean lep lep leproprosity? Lepropriety. I'm gonna work this off off mic. Okay.
SPEAKER_12Lep lepro.
SPEAKER_11I can still hear you. You can hear me? Yes.
SPEAKER_05Leprosy? Leporical. Lepropro.
SPEAKER_11I'm trying to say reciprocity and leprosy together in the same word. Leproprosity.
SPEAKER_04Leproprosity.
SPEAKER_11Leproprosity. Repreprosy. There we go.
SPEAKER_13Rex, you summoning your spirit guardians to have um like confront Trioctus with like his old friends. Like his old friends being like you're no longer a hero. That's so awkward. Yeah. That's so cool.
SPEAKER_04That that was um cool. I agree. I wish that I had thought it through before. Not that I I I like I wish I could take credit for it. You know what I mean? As much as I was just like trying to use the mechanics that I had to win this hard fight.
SPEAKER_11You can take credit for it though, because um that's what improv is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um about a happy idea. If I can take credit for not play to the height of my intelligence.
SPEAKER_10No, but that's okay. Just kidding.
SPEAKER_13Well If I can take credit for half of the shit. That happens in this that's from you guys saying cool shit and me being like, Oh yeah, that is what it is. Uh huh. Then you can take credit that's so cool. Well you did was so cool.
SPEAKER_04Thank you. That was cool. Is the curry I was smart and cool for doing that. You were.
SPEAKER_07Um Take the Compliment, Rex.
SPEAKER_11Was the it it was the curry favor canon? I didn't finish that episode. No, did that make it in there?
SPEAKER_09No, I kept that I mean the cleanest way to cut it was just keeping Spencer saying, like, I wish I had said that. It was just a good like, you know, running bed.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, the um yeah.
SPEAKER_09Speaking of doing things cool, I do want to talk a little bit about Pac Patch's chakrafage. Um because I was thinking about it for him. It's because it wasn't very strategic of him to do that.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. Who did he step in front of?
SPEAKER_09Lucy. Lucy. Um because I think Patch was next. So he could have That's the worst. Yeah, he could have brought up Lucy, he could have um you know, just made the fight end faster. Um so yeah, I'm interested to dive into that.
SPEAKER_07But it's such a sweet thing though, yeah. Because it's like especially if he had a crit that's two death veil, like because Lucy was down, right? So like a crit would have been two death fails, and if he had multi-attack, he could have killed Lucy.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, and I think I like using Patch's um luck-touched ability to teleport like very instinctually. Yes. Um truly as a reaction. So I think that worked well. So I was really happy with that moment.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. I I that was really, really cool and really unexpected too. Like I think th that was the coolest thing. Those were the coolest moments for me in this episode were the times that you guys like used your shit in such creative, interesting, narrative ways. Like, that's I mean, that's the reason you play DD instead of playing Warhammer, I feel like. Right.
SPEAKER_09I love my sweet little patch.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, I love your sweet little patch too. Don't ever say that. Don't ever say that.
SPEAKER_10I love your sweet little uretistic thing.
SPEAKER_03For sure. Not I mean I was actually trying to be like genuinely sweet in that. You are you could hear that.
SPEAKER_12But it sounded nasty. Nasty.
SPEAKER_02I didn't mean when I'm trying to sound nasty. I want you guys to know I'm trying to be nasty.
SPEAKER_09It's the it's the what is that the striped?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_09What is that? Striped.
SPEAKER_12It's striped, it's striped. Where'd you get that? The striped shirt store.
SPEAKER_07It's not finance brought it up. Because the finance bro would be a solid blue, so it's not that. So the dots are pull at the end. Is it too many buttons undone? Is it not enough buttons undone? It's I actually I think it's the right amount of buttons undone.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I think you're doing the best you can with what you're gonna.
SPEAKER_04And what the fuck does that mean? Terekatronich, look me in the eye. What the fuck does that mean?
SPEAKER_116'3. I'm there's a ton of the like summer finance interns out in the city these days. I see them traveling in packs. I do. Just like with their little name tags on. I'm like, but anyway, it's a voice. No, I like your shirt because it's like half blue, half white. So if I go like this, it it looks like like you're gonna be.
SPEAKER_04That's what I wanted when I put it on this morning. I said, it like messes up cameras. I said, Sarah Kutran's just gonna do this. And it's really gonna give her a good laugh today. That's what I did.
SPEAKER_11And she's gonna need it because I'm gonna piss her off.
SPEAKER_04Echo play chest.
SPEAKER_09I'm gonna have to curry her favor. Now that's a gross that sounds gross.
SPEAKER_04Uh Sarah, I'm not trying to curry your favor.
SPEAKER_13Um, and then Janet at the end stepping aside to let patches fall.
SPEAKER_08That was so narrative. That was so narratively satisfying.
SPEAKER_07That was such a that was such a dice storytelling moment. Yeah. Yeah. Because I I could feel like rolling in the crate of fate. I was like, this is going to not work. Um and then I rolled a one and I was like, the dice want it want to tell a slightly different story. So we're gonna follow the dice in this instance. And I love where it took us. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_13And if it if it hadn't happened like that, like there's a real chance that someone could have like gone like dead dead. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_11Um I feel like this episode and the last episode, the dice have been very loud in like guiding the story in a very, very cool way.
SPEAKER_09And I wanna shout out Shane. I think I do in the episode, but again, um, just to make sure it's sad, like Shane being such a um generous improviser and you know, co-player in this game, like, you know, because we're very we're pretty transparent, like behind the mics of like, you know, me asking, can I shoot this reaction shot? Like, I don't want to get your kill off of this guy who's your you know biggest enemy. And Shane being, you know, generous and willing to be like, no, this is the story I think is awesome. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04There's always a moment, like in some it and it's like it's not every episode at all or anything like that, but there's always a moment where you're like everyone's thinking, do we want to fudge this to like or I we wish that that role went differently because thematically it makes the story maybe tie up a little bit more perfectly, right? But I think like and we like we were all kind of looking at each other and we were being like, fuck, like that didn't work. And then like Shane, you were like, no, no, no, I got this. And you delivered a an awesome line, and the way you you know visually described it was so perfect. It was just like made it better than what would have happened if we had if you had rolled a higher number, you know.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I mean, especially like it it um it didn't feel like you were giving up the last role to patch. Like it didn't it felt like it was your you still had all of the agency of your character of Janice to decide how he dies, to to like decide actually I don't need to be the one to kill you. I can let my friends, I can rely on my friends. It's more important that we all do this together. And so like it was so much more of a power move to just take one step to the side and like let what was happening happen and not force fate, like in the way that Triocus tried to force fate or force something to happen or pick which how he wanted everything to work out or wanted to bring somebody back, like that's trying to control fate and Janice being like, I don't have to do any of that. All I have to do is stand take one step to the side and rely on my friends, like goosebumps.
SPEAKER_09That was so cool, and it's also just like very impressive, I feel, as an improviser to be able to I was yeah, I was that's the fight choreographer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yes. I was also in I was just in awe. I was really it was beautiful in my brain. I'm like, what do we do? And then you just being like, we do this, and it was great. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Shame that's hilarious, sweet you take away the pain, as Jordan X too.
SPEAKER_09And he I think that's kind of what maybe inspired your verse in the I'm fine song.
SPEAKER_07Oh, really?
SPEAKER_09Possibly.
SPEAKER_07Of just being like, hey, it's okay.
SPEAKER_09Guys, we can come together.
SPEAKER_13It's all right.
SPEAKER_09I'm fine. I've had both of those songs stuck in my head.
SPEAKER_13Me too. I was singing them on uh poop the other day.
SPEAKER_11Oh, is that to help you help you go?
SPEAKER_13What?
SPEAKER_11I poop, don't clock, relax, don't tense. Yeah, if you'd clench in rhythm, then it's not that bad. Yeah. This is copyright, by the way, guys.
SPEAKER_13This is not um, we're not gonna figure it out. If you go to caveat, doing 10 to 22nd of July 8th.
SPEAKER_11Uh I don't know, Claire. This might fall under the the uh fair use herity apparently.
SPEAKER_13Um let's see. Oh, and uh uh at the start of the episode, we skipped past it. Um you guys drew for the sickness of your friends in Atlanta.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, that happened off screen. And they went zombie zombie. I did have a question.
SPEAKER_07Was there anything good in there?
SPEAKER_13Yes, I took some stuff out because I was like, if they get the same, like if they get a wish, like if one of them gets free or wish or lance, it's like, well, we've seen that before. Sure.
SPEAKER_04I would have loved to have a tree, another tree brother.
SPEAKER_13Um, but yeah, like some of them got good things, like Giant is technically good.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I wasn't sure because then they turned into zombie bad.
SPEAKER_11How many options are there?
SPEAKER_13There's like 16 or something. Um yeah, Giant was like if one of you got it, it would be like annoying and something that you'd probably want to fix, but like But like you got strength bones, your stats would go up. Like um uh your dad got a straight up bad one. Um He just throws up ooze or something. Yeah, he got his what it is is his stomach over like Rex's like over you know a set number of days, uh slowly just fills with like ooze.
SPEAKER_11Oh my god.
SPEAKER_13Um and like starts eating him from the inside. Oh my god. Ooooes and ah and then I think who was it Dodd? Someone got Dodd statute. Yeah, Dodd started going stone mode, which is like Rexes where like stones you take a penalty to stuff, but you're also like resistant to certain things. Dodd rod. Um who else was sick? Oh, uh Georgiana got uh wounds, which is yeah, corks. That was rough. Every every wound? Yeah, every wound you've taken just slowly one by one start reappearing on your body.
SPEAKER_11That's rough for her because she's fought a lot, I feel like.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, I mean, I feel like you know, you live in a fantasy world, like you've probably been stabbed, who knows?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, that was one that we were talking about, and Lucy was like, Janice, do you know how often I've been hurt and I can't happen tonight?
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah, and what I what I was gonna do if one of you guys got that one was I would go back to episode one and just or maybe not episode one, but like I'd look at the big combats like I'd start with Lithildor. Yeah, that's cool. Uh or the dragon, maybe, and then just like every, you know, meaningful eight hours or something, I'd I'd take exact damage from that.
SPEAKER_06Ugh.
SPEAKER_11Um uh and then um what's her name? Sesena. Senna Senna.
SPEAKER_13Sena's your best single and Senna just got big.
SPEAKER_09Senna got big and better at fingering.
SPEAKER_07But you did, but you did make it body horror get big because you were like describing skin stretching and like the bone snapping. Like very good.
SPEAKER_09Very good, Spency. Thank you.
SPEAKER_13But yeah, and then at the end you all saw um them uh at the Citadel.
SPEAKER_09And we talked to Calidays on the phone.
SPEAKER_13Oh, you talked to Caladays on the phone. That was fun. I like you guys. I like every time you guys like she gets snippy with you, or you guys get snippy with her, like she's so fucking easy to rile up.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, we're we're both kind of the same amount of petty. Where it's like we'll back off on the big thing that we're talking about. Yes. We should have hung up on her immediately. We shouldn't even have been like Spencer had some exposition, I think.
SPEAKER_12I'll be like, I have to give you important exposition that the character this character should not give you. I think I did that.
SPEAKER_02I think I said that during the episode.
SPEAKER_03I was like, hold on, hold on, hold on. Maybe she has important. She's trying to tell us something that she shouldn't.
SPEAKER_12I was like, I I meant to find a way for triox to give you this information, but then I forgot to do it. So here you go.
SPEAKER_11Uh but it was fun. Maybe you find a piece of paper with written words on it.
SPEAKER_12Like, if I have to end the plague, this is how I do it.
SPEAKER_09If I did it, I try to.
SPEAKER_12Which I did.
SPEAKER_09A poem.
SPEAKER_07Oh, yeah, that was interesting. I don't think we ever confronted him about him being weird at the party about like whether or not he was involved.
SPEAKER_09Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07Because at the end he was so clearly involved. But then he was awesome.
SPEAKER_09Uh I think we need like a diamond.
SPEAKER_07You need a diamond and a cleric.
SPEAKER_09Well, to bring him back? Yeah.
SPEAKER_07It was a joke.
SPEAKER_09I think the underworld. My read is just that it's like he is like he's a bad person because of his choices, but I don't think inherently he's like ill-willed, like, or malicious. I think he really I think it hurt him that he like was kind of like seeing himself in the mirror, I think, was kind of my take.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Um, and I think that hurt him. And the same of him like being nervous that there were so many people at the party, like I think he didn't, you know, he doesn't want to hurt people, but he just really wants the selfish thing so much more. Right.
SPEAKER_07Which is bad.
SPEAKER_09He's surface is bad.
SPEAKER_07Selfishness is the reason most evils. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Uh like he's surface level, hurt people, hurt people. Yes. Like he's hurt, so he is like the his actions are hurting people. Yes. Versus like some people are hurt so much that they want to they want to hurt people. Yes. And that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_04I see that. Yeah. I think I always looked at him as you know how I look at you know, people who are um victims of cults, right? Like you get there is they are victims too, you know. Yeah. Um then and then you've got people like um uh uh Calidaeus, who's like a a you know, a leader pushing these things through.
SPEAKER_11Pretty like you could almost map a cult like with the you know, what's Euriphon? Euriphon and Callidaeus as like the cult leader and the like.
SPEAKER_04Um but it it is I I I do think it is it's it's more sad than it is like um evil intent. You know, every single person who maybe could have walked him back or talked him out of it is dead. Yeah, you know, like seems like his wife isn't dead. I don't know what happened to her. We don't know. We'll meet her in a couple of she's gonna try and kill us. Um but like her is his son, him doing everything to buy into this kakamami idea of taking this uh army to the underworld to get his son back, which is just like so sad. So sad, but also so outlandishly crazy. I mean, I don't I don't know contextually in the world. Yeah, I mean it's never it's never happened, right?
SPEAKER_13No one ever in the same way in like Greek mythology, no one ever like maybe one person almost came back sometime.
SPEAKER_10Hercules.
SPEAKER_13Hercules came back, but like a god nice, good.
SPEAKER_10Specifically Disney and we know specifically like what's wrong with these sizzles.
SPEAKER_04Uh Arycolos made a deal potentially with the uh uh god.
SPEAKER_07Did Aricolos achieve godhood like a la Hercules or we like a demigod?
SPEAKER_13He doesn't have godhood. It's not really known like where the common legend says that he um like he was like the eternal victor, and his he he he he kept like beating death, and then eventually he just like let like walked into the underworld to like now live there as like a dead person but without dying, you know.
SPEAKER_11No, to like accept grace or accept death graciously. Yeah. I almost opened up my laptop to Google uh Ari Kalos because I was like, what about like we pull up a Wikipedia on him again? I forget exactly what that those were.
SPEAKER_04If we feed all of our podcasts into uh don't say it.
SPEAKER_12I'm gonna I you just saw the face I'm we're not feeding it into shit dinner time into a language large language.
SPEAKER_03No, and then we could have a perfect Wikipedia.
SPEAKER_13No, I could I I have I have so many detailed notes on this computer.
unknownComputer, computer.
SPEAKER_11We just have to look into his um little his spreadsheet. Yeah, his uh his Google Doc.
SPEAKER_04I can hack you. I'm a as you guys know me.
SPEAKER_11Um I can hack you.
SPEAKER_09Um computer hack Spencer's laptop.
SPEAKER_13What do you guys so what do you guys think about uh this uh this plot to take the powerful sick and make them into an army? So evil.
SPEAKER_09I kind of don't know what we're gonna do about that. Yeah, we just have to get away from the case.
SPEAKER_13I mean, if there's if they're controlling them, then in some way, like what was that?
SPEAKER_07That's that's my like I'm like, how did they get control of them is like the big question.
SPEAKER_11Do we have the like the plague antidote that like all of the plague will slough off of them if we say the right word?
SPEAKER_01Or yeah, believe it or not. We have the gym.
SPEAKER_11Maybe we do like a little science experiment on the some of the plague spores, see if we can turn them good.
SPEAKER_13And I'm very curious about make a good plague.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I mean, I'm hoping that like whisper and or uh while could help us. Or wonder. Or wonder.
SPEAKER_11Or Cersei. Calades of Cersei. Well, she might have looked up something never mind.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I'm curious like what led to Cersei being kidnapped or if or if Cersei's gonna be the big bad we actually end up having to fight because no, because she was already sick.
SPEAKER_04I also I we were um talking about in our not Spencer uh WhatsApp group of you know the potential of that collar that the dragon was wearing.
SPEAKER_09But I don't think we have the collar because my understanding is at the end of the episode the tower imploded, so we're like running through the anal. The anal.
SPEAKER_13Did not take this the collar with us? I I thought you grabbed the collar. I thought you did grab the collar. I assume you guys put it in your bag.
SPEAKER_09Okay. Um never mind. We have the collar, guys.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's why I brought it up. Because I thought that you had put it into the bag when you were looking, because you were inspecting at the end of the.
SPEAKER_09I think my mental picture was that it was still on the dragon. So, and it's like big because it's a dragon neck, but it I'm yeah, I'm fine to take it.
SPEAKER_11Did we take off the collars that were from the the plague beasts? No. Yeah, we didn't think so. Because their heads fell off. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, if we can use that if if Patch can tinker with it to get us to teleport out there.
SPEAKER_11I think we put it around our waists, like a big one big hula hoop and we teleport ourselves.
SPEAKER_13I will say the dragon was one of those with a thin neck.
SPEAKER_09Okay, good.
SPEAKER_07It's a thin neck dragon.
SPEAKER_13So it's how big.
SPEAKER_09It's still a it's still a dragon.
SPEAKER_13I mean, like a foot, maybe.
SPEAKER_11Patch could absolutely hammer that thing out.
SPEAKER_13Snatched.
SPEAKER_07I'll just, I'll just, I, I can just I like I like the snatch patch better.
SPEAKER_09I can just cut it and turn it into a lock. Oh, there you go. We can just hold it. We can all just hold it on the back.
SPEAKER_13That would not break any of the magic.
SPEAKER_09Or we can wear it as a ring. Yeah, we can just all hold it. Or a bracelet.
SPEAKER_04Teleported back to Siren's purge.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. Only one of you gets teleported to Dyer End and gets jumped on by a big creature.
SPEAKER_11No, we all get teleported to like the far ends of the universe, and we have to find everything so it's a good one.
SPEAKER_13And our podcast becomes so much longer. So much harder to listen to.
SPEAKER_11We each have to come record with Spencer one-on-one.
SPEAKER_09But all of us have to come. And we just have to be quiet and not make any jokes about things that sound like this. It's not getting me to the back room, Spencer.
SPEAKER_04Wow, I really do think it would be funny if Sarah got sick. Lucy got sick.
SPEAKER_12I think it'd be so funny if Sarah got sick.
SPEAKER_11The real life blood death.
SPEAKER_04Sarah's kind of always sick.
SPEAKER_11Not always, but I have been for a long time. But I finally think it's I'm coming around. Yeah, yeah. Congratulations. You probably had like a little bit.
SPEAKER_08I'm proud of you.
SPEAKER_11COVID. Well, I mean, definitely the first time, yes. It definitely has funny.
SPEAKER_06I don't know. You did have post-viral cough syndrome.
SPEAKER_11That's what I was trying to say. It brings back my asthma because I had asthma as a kid. And so anything will like trigger that.
SPEAKER_04I did and still do.
SPEAKER_11Do you have an inhaler?
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_09Can I have a hit of that?
SPEAKER_04I don't have it with me, but that shit is worth its weight in gold.
SPEAKER_09You ever get the or the counter inhalers? Mm-hmm. Those tend to help me. I'll have to do that.
SPEAKER_04Well, there's a rescue inhaler and then there's a steroid inhaler, and I have a steroid inhaler, and I hit it in the morning, and I hit it at night, and it is so good. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07I have a I have an albuterol inhaler. Yeah, that's the that's the emergency.
SPEAKER_11This weekend I was dancing and then like I got off stage and I was like, Oh, I'm coughing. I don't know.
SPEAKER_07But my exercise induced asthma is only really bad when it's like 90 degrees and humid. Yeah, I'm rushing.
SPEAKER_04Tough place to live with the with the the old asthmar. Yeah. Sucks to your asthmar. Asimar. This is an asimar.
SPEAKER_11Ask me more about it.
SPEAKER_07Why'd you get so serious, Matt? Because I think we're wrapping up.
SPEAKER_13We are. Sorry, I was making a note.
SPEAKER_09I mean, it's only like 12 30 in the afternoon. So it's like I got so scared. I thought it was 12 30 at night. I was like, oh my God. I think we can see that.
SPEAKER_13Not even close. Shall we call it?
SPEAKER_08Hey, mama, I think we should.
SPEAKER_13Hey, mama. Bringing that back. Mama. Bringing it back.
SPEAKER_08That was my favorite part, is I'll show you what this neck do, mama.
SPEAKER_13We were truly a good thing. Tickled me so much. Would you guys like it if I did that in real life if I started talking like that? No.
SPEAKER_11Um, I would because it would be like a reference and an inside friend joke to this moment. And I'd be like, ooh, friend joke.
SPEAKER_13Yeah. I think you just can't get too carried away with that. Yeah, I can't. It would kind of live in my Q zone, which is we'll let it happen, LGBT.
SPEAKER_09Hey, Spencer, how many more lesbians are you gonna make evil for Pride Month? They're not evil.
SPEAKER_07They're not evil, they're cool.
SPEAKER_09They just have once.
SPEAKER_07We have a low ratio of evil. Halliday isn't amazing.
SPEAKER_13We have lots of complicated lesbians. I'm joking. We have lots of complicated lesbians, which I like to call regular lesbians.
SPEAKER_11I'm joking, because I what's the ratio of happy couples to if you had a normal lesbian, it would be too far-fetched.
SPEAKER_13Well, if you guys met if I like brought in a character and was like, we're lesbian, and then that was their whole deal, I feel like that would be that would be reverse good.
SPEAKER_11I would like if you if you look at us like this, don't ask me about it.
SPEAKER_09I'm a lesbian, but I'm more than that.
SPEAKER_04You're gonna have to literally have to ask me questions to figure out my thing.
SPEAKER_13Originally they were gonna be more villainous until Sarah hung out with them. And then I was like, I fuck with them.
SPEAKER_11See, I I power of female friendship.
SPEAKER_04I extended them. We've had uh good lesbians, and I'd like a I'd like an appreciation for not trying to dap you up.
SPEAKER_11Why would you? Um I was I think I was telling some of you guys before, I like or I forget who I was talking to that. I forgot that Lucy is the only girl like in our group because I feel like Because Patch is a little fruity. No, because I picture us. Like I'm not pick like I'm when I see Patch, it's like you in my head. Yeah. So it's it it so I guess like in that. Like, yeah, like and I know he's a boy, but like in my head, I'm like, oh, it's just us hanging out. So then I the other day I was like, oh my gosh, Lucy's in a room full of boys.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, this is crazy. The stank is crazy.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, this it's Patch is stinky, but he is. I I do picture him as a he's bad, he has his badness, but he's less broy than those boys because they're Nikki. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's a little fruity because of Nikki.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_13On that note, happy Pride Month to all the Nikki's and mommies out there. Thank you so much for listening. Thank you so much for listening. Oh thank you.
SPEAKER_11We love it. Now it works.
SPEAKER_13Now it decides to work. We'll see you next week.
SPEAKER_11We have to go sing Slim Treasure.
SPEAKER_07Wait, is this nobody's eye?
