SPEAKER_08We were just talking about Austin Powers being just a bunch of sketches in a row. Yeah. It's so good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I have I have faked my through a lot of conversations with you all.
SPEAKER_09It's uh Sarah's actually doesn't know DD. Sarah, um when you don't listen, uh when you fake that you know who Fat Bastard is.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_09It affects me in the following way. Yeah. It it the funny, funniest part I feel like about watching like all three of those moves one after the other, is they it is such a collection of sketches to where it's like you just are watching the same sketch again. Like every single bit is just like, well, they've repeated it. In the second one, they heighten it a little bit, but then if they repeat it in the third, it's like, nope, it's just the same bit. Like it's hard. It gets hard to watch in sequence if you don't give them time between.
SPEAKER_06And it's tricky too because it does, if you do watch them in order, it is kind of like a herald because it's like, oh, here's the first beat, second beat. But if they do it the exact same way in the third one without kind of like breaking it, yeah, then it doesn't work.
SPEAKER_04If you never zag, you're never zig. The zig is unsatisfied.
SPEAKER_06That's so true.
SPEAKER_09I hate it when I'm so weird. In this episode, um, which isn't Austin Powers related. Uh should have done an Austin Powers one shot. Kind of. We and we are going to beauty pageant.
SPEAKER_04Booty pageant. Booty pageant.
SPEAKER_09Booty pageant. Uh, yeah, you guys uh completed the end of the beauty pageant, including the talent portion.
SPEAKER_04Let's get into the talent portion. And we found the killer.
SPEAKER_09You also did that. That's unimportant. But I I want to talk about the talent portion.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Should we start chronologically?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I guess we'll just go in order. So we started with with with It was with Janice. It was Janice Apollon. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So first of all, Shane showed up in a tank top. Yeah. Guns out. Guns out for everyone to see.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, he was stretch. We recorded a talk back before the episode. He was stretching through the whole thing. Yeah, he was doing like knee tuck jumps.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Zero of those things were happening. But I did uh uh put on my best uh net of rosic outfit.
SPEAKER_04When you picked acrobatics, right? That's what you picked. Um was that a calculated decision, or was that uh just a spur of the moment uh choice?
SPEAKER_06Um I mean calculated in what? It was like acrobatics is a good skill of mine, and somebody See, that's calculated.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_06But also like the I think it was the triplets, were they acrobats? Yes. Um it was also just kind of a joke because the triplets were acrobats and they were all just killed. So Janice was like, well, yeah. That's the character part that I was looking for. Yeah, yeah. See, it's always both with him. Yeah, that's very nice.
SPEAKER_08It's always both with him. But sitting across from Special. And Shane, uh, thanks for coming today. Um you have a letter too? Yeah, it's always both with you, and we just have some things to tell you.
SPEAKER_04First of all, two is a number, not a letter, but dude, nice.
SPEAKER_09Yes, Sarah, nice. Write that down. Thank you. You should write that down. I think he said, I had to say Shane throughout his life.
SPEAKER_06Just follow, yeah, just follow me around.
SPEAKER_01Um do anyway.
SPEAKER_06But yeah, but then I actually had to do something acrobatic, and I was like, I live in a New York City apartment. Yeah. Uh what acrobatics can I do here?
SPEAKER_04It's hard for your back handsprings. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Can't do a back handspring in here.
SPEAKER_09I was really hoping one of you would have said, like, oh, I'm gonna do like some crazy like thing that I can do because of magic in the game. Because then you would have had to like, and obviously not a b, but you would have had to like do some approximation that would have to be creative. Like if Lucy did electricity. Yeah. I don't know if you would have just like plugged something into the wall. Like, I don't know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04I probably would have brought a potato. Yes, and then created a circuit.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, see that like and uh light turn on. I think you all did a very good job of like you challenged yourselves in real life and in the game, not knowing that you were gonna challenge yourself in real life, and I thought that was very fun.
SPEAKER_04It also would be fun to do that at some point. Like at any point, you could be like pause, you have to do that in real life. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, we get inspiration up to the biggest thing. It can never be for actual like in-game, like something will change based off of it. Like it can be for like a boat, a boost. Yeah, yeah, but like ultimately, you know, we would we'd be we'd be LARPing, not even LARPing, we'd be actually physically fighting each other if it was like Yeah, if you can actually beat up Shane, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I don't want to beat up Shane. I'm a soft.
SPEAKER_04I would so anyway, with your with your acrobatics, you did um I did, I just kind of did a crow pose into a headstand, which was impressive.
SPEAKER_06And then I tried to push it into a handstand, which I used to be able to do, but I have not done that in a couple years or so.
SPEAKER_08Stephen Crow.
SPEAKER_06That was unsuccessful.
SPEAKER_08Sarah got it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I did Stephen Crowpose. It's the name of a guy we know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but with and and kind of with the pose that you did combined.
SPEAKER_08If if I hear something and then I and then it goes into my brain and I go, Oh, there's a link there. I have to say it. Oh, I understand. I like I can't because if I don't, I don't want to find out what happens when I don't do that.
SPEAKER_06Right. It builds up and then it expires.
SPEAKER_08I know, and then an hour from now I'm yelling, Steven Grobos.
SPEAKER_01An hour from now you're like, you guys just don't listen to me.
SPEAKER_09Um I think the next talent was Lucy.
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, oh you're right. In-game versus A. How we filmed out of sequence. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Um spoiler fucking dark. We didn't peek behind the screen. It takes a lot of work.
SPEAKER_08That was that was my suggestion because I did not want to have to sit down and get up.
SPEAKER_09Because I'm sitting in Matt's chair right now for the first time. It's fucking comfy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Once you're once you're in there, you're in there. And then when Chloe has to get up and get out, I'm like, it's also really hard to move.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09And dude.
SPEAKER_04Are you threading the table leg?
SPEAKER_09I'm threading the table leg. Yeah. I'm claiming this thing with my farts right now. It is, it is nice.
SPEAKER_05I feel I feel far away from you guys.

SPEAKER_05I feel kind of like I'm watching over you guys.

SPEAKER_04Which I will say, it took me a second to figure out, but I do know how.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, because you did it for this one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I've done it for all of our one-shots. But the first time I did it, it took me a while to figure out.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, mine is a half joke. I know that you know how to use your computer.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. It was just so funny and so like.
SPEAKER_04And my um my mimicry roasting. Yes, your mimicry was also ingest. And how much of that did you have prepared?

SPEAKER_06It was fun because you did our characters and then you did us. Yeah. I know. And you like insisted on that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you drew it out for a long time. Like, should I do you guys? No, but like, should I do you guys?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And then it didn't go as well as doing the characters.
SPEAKER_09I think they both went well. I think we were just so hurt by the uh by by the time it came around to us. Yeah. First of all, I don't do that.
SPEAKER_04No, I think I realize also how many of my impressions are physical. So I couldn't do them on the podcast. So that was hard for me was to do them vocally. Because I feel like my impressions of you as my friends are all physical.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, versus the characters, I only know them through their voices, and so it was a little bit easier to do that way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um but yeah, no, I I knew mimicry when we first chose, I don't know where that came from. Yeah. I just said that word. And then also I also realized, sorry, my this is my brain's okay. I also realized that I use message kind of as mimicry. And I feel like you don't usually let me, and now you have to let me because now I have mimicry and I'll be able to do it in the way that I think in my head I've always been doing like that. When you were that duck.
SPEAKER_09You can mimic. I don't know if that means you can telepathically mimic perfectly.
SPEAKER_04If I can mimic, yeah, and if I can telepath, teleconnect.
SPEAKER_09I think you'll still have to try. Like you'll still have to roll for it.
SPEAKER_04This guy.
SPEAKER_09Lucy Sarah loves to say, I do this. And then when I succeed, what I do is my 13th plan at the end.
SPEAKER_04But I but yes, I feel like I've always played Lucy as a good mimic, and I don't know if that's been true on paper. Yeah. I don't know if that anybody else has thought that.
SPEAKER_09I think it worked really well the first time you did it, and then you continued using the voice of the first time you did it.
SPEAKER_04Yes. That's yes.
SPEAKER_09Like you were like, this is Marty Shorefoot's father. This is what he sounds like. Yes. And now that's who everyone sounds like. Yes.
SPEAKER_04And in my mind, that's that to each person, that's what their dad sounds like to them. Okay.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Spencer. And you kind of yes, handed it into existence because I did. Yeah. You were like, Dad, as Marty Shorefoot.
SPEAKER_04Yes, which was great. So perfect.
SPEAKER_09So you know.
SPEAKER_04So now my dreams are fulfilled.
SPEAKER_09So a warning to Chloe as we go into the barred shot, you make your own bed. We all have messages.
SPEAKER_05Don't say yes to anything. I only have to do it once.
SPEAKER_09Never say yes to Sarah. Did we all take message?
SPEAKER_05Can we do that?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. No, Sarah can be the only one who doesn't have it. That's the rule.
SPEAKER_04I have I have like a I have two detect magics and two Misty Spells.
SPEAKER_08Well, it's good that you have both of those. You did not add spells, did you? I didn't do it either, so I until I did add my great axe.
SPEAKER_04Um perfect. But uh yeah, that was fun. I enjoyed the that.
SPEAKER_09That was very that was a very fun, very fun talent. And speaking of very fun talents, I believe the next was Adonis Rex.
SPEAKER_08That was not fun. It was fun to to um it was fun to horse around with Spencer and kind of have him be like a little raggy ball.
SPEAKER_09He put me on his body in the craziest way.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it really was technique that was working against you. Yeah, I really think you could have done it if you had the form better. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08At a certain point when I realized it wasn't working, I leaned into the bit and just kept like I'm gonna break Spencer's fucking back.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but that was so early. Yeah, I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it was embarrassing at first.
SPEAKER_04And then I leaned into the It was because he was facing the wrong way. He was like leaning on his neck, like he was you were trying to fireman's carry him the wrong way. The wrong way.
SPEAKER_08What I was trying to put him in is in the torture rack, okay?
SPEAKER_04Like this, like yes, yes. I know I knew exactly that you were trying.
SPEAKER_08Can't do that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That also requires that's a lift between two people, not just one person that picks up a rag doll.
SPEAKER_08And honestly, shame on me for not doing any research beforehand or using the resources that I have.
SPEAKER_04I don't I wouldn't shame you for it because it was hilarious.
SPEAKER_08It was and that is my goal ultimately. I could not stop laughing. I did. So then I put Spencer in on in a piggyback and did uh try to squat and was so confident going down and was so confident going up for the first millisecond. And then I lost balance because it's like when I I don't I haven't lifted in a while. Yes. And like when you are lifting, like, you know, and Shane is the person to talk to about this, but like, you know, you you can't you lean forward so that the the weight is kind of over the center of your body. Didn't do that at all with Spencer, and then kind of fell backwards. And I'm thankful that I didn't hurt him or myself.
SPEAKER_09It would have been the funniest thing if you defeated me in real life.
SPEAKER_04You did stand up as if you did not have another humanized back. And then it was like, oh wait, this isn't working.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Shane was like, or someone said, Okay, you have him on your back. Can you squat him? And I go, Yeah.
SPEAKER_09There are so often moments where I regret decisions I've made DMing. That was a moment where I was like, I mortally regret decisions I've made. I like there was a set a brief second where I was like, oh, we're going down. Matt's gonna get hurt because I made a bad decision.
SPEAKER_08Oh no, I was thinking the same thing. Oh, okay. I was thinking the same thing because I'm not gonna get hurt because Spencer made a bad decision. No, I'm gonna make I'm gonna make Spencer hurt for cloying him into this, into this bit and then Chloeing. Chloeing. Chloe? That's what we call it. Chloe. Um, hey, Chloe. We actually prepared a little bit. Did it work?
SPEAKER_04That's so manipulative.
SPEAKER_08I think Chloe, yeah. Chloe is fine.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it just sounded like my name. As in Chloying?
SPEAKER_08Uh yeah, can we Google it?
SPEAKER_05But like, isn't that like sickeningly sweet and like sticky? I thought chloying was like well, now I say that too many times. I don't know what I mean.
SPEAKER_06Someone Google it just.
SPEAKER_08I think you're right. It's something unpleasant, sickening, and or tiresome.
SPEAKER_05What do you mean?
SPEAKER_08I'm saying cloud. I'm saying like what am I saying? Ploying. Like cloying. Like what word are you trying to say? I think maybe ploying. Right.
SPEAKER_04What say that it say the sentence again with the word that you're trying with?
SPEAKER_08Uh it was meant to say ploying. Okay. Um ploying Spencer into doing this bit with me where I said if if we're gonna have to do something, I'm gonna make Spencer be a part of it. And I feel like cloying should work.
SPEAKER_04I feel like there's also plying or prodding.
SPEAKER_08There's a word I'm trying to think of. Uh anyway. Plowing. Yeah, I well, we did that last night. Plotting. Uh either way, I pushing I'm happy that neither of us got hurt, and I'm happy that um my character is so much stronger than uh I am in real life.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I think in game that just looked like Rex didn't stretch.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, that was the tree.
SPEAKER_08That really and the tree actually affected Matt Morin as well.
SPEAKER_09Oh yeah. And ultimately, like the the you know, your performance in the like actual game wasn't oh that was crazy. Wasn't dictated by like the real life thing. I think in that round it did line up pretty well. Like I think you got a middling score that round.
SPEAKER_08I uh for what I could have gotten. I think I got like a seven plus like ten or something. Eight or something. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Um, and then we come to I think one of the funniest performances. Truly uh Patches stand up so inspiring. Can you can can you walk us through your creative process there?
SPEAKER_05My creative process was well, because first of all, people have said that Pat should do stand up. Like a couple times on the pod, that's come up. So that's what um people are always saying. I think Lucy said that like the episode before. She was like, Oh, Patch, that was really funny. Um So I think that's what inspired the thought. Um, I was trying to think about it because I've done stand up um as myself. And I was like, Well, I can't, you know, I don't want to write from like Patch's, you know, his backstory or whatever, because that's not interesting. Um yeah, I just kind of want to say, what would Patch want to say in this moment. I think he would want to call people out. He wouldn't, he would use this as an opportunity to not have a filter. Um, so just as you know.
SPEAKER_04What did you say? I it fee it feels like um like gamer patch a little bit, but like outside of the game. Like being able to feel like, oh, I have the power, people will listen to me.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_04On stage rather than like behind a screen.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'm holding the microphone. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_05You know.
SPEAKER_09Um what was it you said early on? You like you roasted one of the dead people, I think.
SPEAKER_05I said Evelyn. I said the the only way I could get a girl to touch me was by getting the bomb off Evelyn's foot. Yeah. That wasn't the worst someone's bombed tonight. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.

SPEAKER_09It was funny. It was really funny. That was Chloe. Told us like going into these like past few episodes, like, I'm less focused on the investigation. I'm gonna fucking lock it on the tablets. And that's very true. And they did.
SPEAKER_05And then I rolled a one on that.
SPEAKER_09And then you rolled a one tragedy check.

Um so the first one was a nat 20. Um uh but it had a good boost to it too. Um and then I rolled relatively middling, but I was doing things with with good skills. Yeah. Um, so I had a good bonus.
SPEAKER_09That's the thing, is like your final numbers were always like above 15. It was like 18, yeah. So that was the um for the other contestants, the the last two, uh, I had Ryan consistently score a 12 in every round and Evelyn consistently score a 15. So it was like she is doing well, she's getting sympathy points as well from the judges because they think they can eliminate her from like, okay, she got blowed up. Yeah. Um so she was the one to beat, and you you trounced her.

SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was the difference between being down and like one hit point. Yeah, and from those teen tight gusts of wind that were so easy to kill. I felt so stupid.
SPEAKER_09Not only down, but down. And dangling, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_05That would have been really bad.
SPEAKER_09In which you would have probably fallen and gotten like you would have hit the ground and gotten probably like two failed death saves. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Um, so it would have been dire fucking straight. It really, I didn't, it didn't feel like something I could have fought my way through. Yeah. Even though they proved to be pretty easy, like they were hitting me hard. Yeah. Um, and I was locked in a stone tomb. So my first thought was just to get the fuck out of here.
SPEAKER_06What happened to you? You were locked in a stone tomb?
SPEAKER_05I was going, so Phil was talking about that room, and I was like suspicious of him. Sure. Um, but like I had gotten eliminated. So I was like, well, I don't want to just stand here. Let me let's go look at this this room. Um, and then I was like, Phil, come with me. And then I was trying to be like, okay, you go in, you go in.
SPEAKER_09And then I was like, it wasn't like a like a pressure plate trap. It was like he had like an a item that cast wall of stuff.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was like my back was turned and Spencer's like, okay, you turn around and Phil is outside the door, and then it fully like I thought I heard something, but oh it was like a full like stone wall being built up between us. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09I I I rolled behind the screen stealth and had you roll perception in addition to your investigation. Yeah. And uh i i it it led to the trap springing.
SPEAKER_05But it was cool. You were being you were being scary. I mean in a in a complimentary way of for the story.
SPEAKER_08I love when Spencer's anything.
SPEAKER_09Oh stuff. Yeah. I feel like he was one of those bad guys where it's like really like kind of like the Medusa, where it's like kind of as every episode goes, it's like, okay, well this is this is gonna be the bad guy.

SPEAKER_09But I think for me, the fun of the arc or of the interlude was like less so like the investigation stuff was fun, but it was less so like the complicated inner workings of it and more the like pageant of it. Um and yeah, did you guys enjoy the pageant and the mystery this year? I don't know. Yeah. I always love a mystery.
SPEAKER_08I um have we talked about the uh the question at the very end?

In his head, he was like, Oh, I'll make it look like Patch and I were both attacked uh up there and be like, oh, something happened to Patch. Oh shit, fuck, oh shit. Um but you guys pretty immediately, you know, also you had just won, and so he was like, I need the I want the thing, I need the thing. At this point, there's no diplomatic way for me to get it. Right.
SPEAKER_04Um It took him from being slightly suspicious to okay, this is the guy that's gonna be. This is the guy, yeah.
SPEAKER_08But not even because like Janice went up to him covered in blood and like tried to heal.
SPEAKER_06I checked it on patch and was like, oh no.
SPEAKER_08We were, yeah, we were there were a lot of red herrings in or a lot of possibilities.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, a lot of red hair, but it turns out it was the red herring in the beginning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I told y'all we shouldn't have picked him up.
SPEAKER_09I said murderer all along.
SPEAKER_04You were saying about Evelyn.
SPEAKER_09You were fair about both of them, that's true.
SPEAKER_04But I was on them, yeah.
SPEAKER_06And I was actually I was thinking about that, Spencer, because I was like, you have such a good poker face because every time you went, maybe I didn't knew I didn't know I did think Phil was gonna be like later stage Rex, like if Rex had been listening to the voices, yeah, as opposed to being like driven crazy by them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. I mean, and that's that that is kind of like his whole thing is like he's been hearing these voices for so that that voice for so long, and the voice told him, like, okay, you can get rid of me if you go win this thing, do whatever it takes, and like dri drove him to the killing. So I guess it's less like I I don't know if that came across, but like it I intended it less like, oh, he's been driven crazy, and more like he's like made like a deal with this thing that's like okay, I'm gonna do what you want so I can get rid of you. Yeah. Whether or not that would have gotten rid of it is another question. Right. Um but yeah.
SPEAKER_04And this is why mental health is so important because if you have a voice in your head that's telling you terrible things, you might be an uncle. You might be an uncle, and then you should go to therapy and not kill the pageant people.
SPEAKER_08I agree. A question for you, Spencer. Was he aware of what he was doing?

SPEAKER_08So when Janice and I were interviewing him in the hot tub, he was fully like, I know I'm killing these people. It wasn't like a fugue state type. Yeah, no, no.

SPEAKER_09Yeah. You the the the narrative of the like like mind control, like blackout what happened, uh, kind of arose, but that wasn't right.
SPEAKER_08Because I think we thought they were all like we thought it was maybe like uh an uh Orient Express type of everyone is the killer.

And he's the like everyone that heard a voice around them, it is that the voice, or was the voice just were we hearing what was going on in um what's his face's head? In Phil's head. Because at one point we saw the the veranda and then there was a voice.
SPEAKER_05So is that in Veranda's head, or was that it I think it was what was in Mogus' head, because when I went into his lair, all the things that we had heard the Mogus voice say were like written on the walls.
SPEAKER_04So those were like little cuts into Phil's head. I think so.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, absolutely. They that it was intended as like a this is what, you know, as Ariana like gets out of the carriage, this is what Phil standing in the lobby looking out, seeing her is thinking.
