Hello out there and welcome to issue number eleven of Wesley's Pop Culture Club. Double ones. Holy cowsers. One one. Whoa, it's one to one. We made it. Wow. We're well into the tens now. The early tens. Early tens, yeah. Early tens. We're well into them though. My name is My name is Lucas. My name is Jonah. Jonah. We are cohorts in this venture of ours. And co-hosts. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Changed one letter? I think so.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

That's pretty cool. I I can't think of another thing you could do that with. If you gave me like 10 minutes, I probably could. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Like at least 10. You got 10 minutes right now, or I'm kind of busy right now. Oh, okay. But I'll get back to you on that. I'll do the intro and you just let me know if you if anything comes into your brain. Okay. All right. All right. We are a pop culture slash entertainment discussion podcast. Uh we're on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, if you're still using that for some reason for podcasts.

SPEAKER_02

I love those guys. I feel like we talk about them quite a bit.

SPEAKER_01

Quite a bit. Yeah. Yeah. It's possible. I don't know. They're nice. They're they're great. From what I understand, great people. Um we are today going to be talking about TV, which as we discussed in the past, is short for television.

SPEAKER_02

Hmm. I actually knew that. Yeah. You did know that? Yeah, I already knew that.

SPEAKER_01

From when we talked about it before? No. No. Before that even. Way before that. Really?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

This is was a new uh acquisition of knowledge for me. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't know it.

SPEAKER_02

I think at the last episode I said I didn't know it, but I was lying to your face. So you lie on our podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Quite often, actually, but listeners are going to remember that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well.

SPEAKER_01

They're going to be coming for you.

SPEAKER_02

Come get me.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, we're going to be talking about some things that we've been watching on TV.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

Um. And we're excited about it. We're excited to be here.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Happy to be here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Very excited. How are you doing otherwise?

SPEAKER_02

I'm pretty good. Okay. Yeah. I uh I have the week off of work this week, which is awesome. Very thankful for that. It's amazing. So I've just I've gone to a comic book store, I've gone longboarding, I've watched some stuff that we might talk about in the following minutes. How is the longboarding going?

SPEAKER_01

I haven't checked in with you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay, I actually had a really bad wipeout yesterday. No. Like seriously. Um I'm okay. What did you land on? Elbows? My side. It was like it was like, I think my left side would happen. So I I was getting a little, I was a bit off a little more than I could chew. You're getting cocky. I was getting a little cocky. Because I was I was doing well uh on the weekend. I was doing it a little bit and it was really fun. Then I was like, oh, I'm gonna like I went yesterday when it was like 93 degrees out at like three o'clock. I was like, I'm gonna go for like an hour longboarding and get a really good workout in and sweat my behind right off. So then I was like going straight on flat areas, which is nice. I was like you know what? I'm gonna go on this little hill because I want to spice it up.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So I started going, and I cannot stop myself if I'm going down a hill.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And I did not realize how steep this was. So I was going down this corner, I was going really fast, and then my I lost I started to lose control of my board and start going like this. And if Jonah's doing a wobble. Yes, if you're listening to the podcast, I'm thank you. And but I was like actually freaking out, and then I literally just jumped like there was a patch of grass.

SPEAKER_01

So you did like you landed on at least something kind of soft. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, and I think it was on this shoulder because this really hurts, and then my back and my neck up here like hurts quite a bit. But what if it was unrelated and that just happened to hurt today? That would be way too confusing. Yeah. And I wouldn't be able to tell you what it's from.

SPEAKER_01

It'd be a slipweird.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it could be that too.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe you were having a dream about falling off your longboard and you fell out of your bed. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

That would just I that'd be too much for me to comprehend.

SPEAKER_01

When was the last time you experienced a hypnagogic jerk?

SPEAKER_02

What does that even mean?

SPEAKER_01

When you're falling asleep and you suddenly lash out. That is the title of this episode.

SPEAKER_02

That's my vote. Um, when's the last time I had that when I fell out of bed?

SPEAKER_01

No, no. Just in general. Oh, okay. I mean, if it so happens that the last time that happened, you fell out of your bed, then I'll take it. But I just mean in general, you're falling asleep and all of a sudden you jolt and you're awake. That does happen to me. Probably like probably a week ago or something. Okay, that yeah. Does it happen to you? Uh not often. Yeah. I had one the other night though. Ooh. Jarring. Oh gosh. Yeah. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

It was jerking or jarring?

SPEAKER_01

I was jerking in my sleep. Wow. And I woke myself like cheers to that, brother. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

This podcast is rated PG.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, it is. No, I don't think it is. Um you just need a parental guide. A parental guide, yes. Ants. Ants. Well, if your aunt is your legal uh custodian, right? You can listen to this. Yeah, custodial figure, yeah. Or Aunt May.

SPEAKER_02

Who's that? Who's that? You know who that is. Who's that? Is there somebody who has a real Aunt May? There's probably. There's gotta be, right?

SPEAKER_01

There's gotta be a person named May whose siblings have children.

SPEAKER_02

At least, even just one child. What if there wasn't? No, there there has to be. There has to be. Alright, now what about this? Ready? What if it's an aunt May and Uncle Ben?

SPEAKER_01

IRL. This is less statistically less likely, but I'm still willing to bet that it's probably happened. Now, how many of them have a nephew?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

Named Peter Palmer.

SPEAKER_02

That was the OG name. That was. You knew that. Yes. Wasn't that like they they just decided to switch it?

SPEAKER_01

I always thought that Steve Lee. That Steve Lee and Stan Ditko. I thought that that was a one-time mistake. Like I thought in Amazing Fantasy, the premiere one, that it was Parker. And then in the Amazing Spider-Man one or two, whenever that happened, I thought they just uh mistakenly put that in.

SPEAKER_02

So this is a good question. I I actually don't know the answer to that now. And I have read those OG ones. Right. I think you're right. It sounds familiar. Like, but I think they mentioned Peter Palmer in at least two issues.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like I feel like it was.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe those two names were uh In Contention. In contention, yeah. And then uh they were just confused.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. What if it was Peter Palmer? I feel like that's funnier to me. Peter Palmer than Peter Parker.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's interesting because he grips things with his palms. Well, it's his fingertips usually. But sometimes he's grabbing the wall at the time. You're right though, it is his fingertips. Yeah. But those are attached to a palm.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Parker. How many times is he parking a car?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I've never seen him do that.

SPEAKER_01

I've never seen him drive.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I haven't either. He's just he thips everywhere. He just thips. I'm sure he has driven. Um doesn't he have like a spider mobile? It's like a really cool. I think he does. Yeah. I've never seen it. I haven't seen it at this point. Also, if he's wearing the suit, his hands are gonna stick to that steering wheel all day. And if it's a stick shift, now here's how he's gonna do that.

SPEAKER_01

Is is it the suit that gives him the sticking powers?

SPEAKER_02

That's a really good question. I think it isn't. I think it's right just his hands. It's his hands.

SPEAKER_01

Right, that's what I mean. But actually, I feel like they do a like a gag on that in the Toby Maguire ones where he like can he pull something off the bus, like a there's like a banner on the bus. He's trying to catch the bus. And he puts his hand on. I don't remember the specific thing. He takes the banner off with him. Wow. Um but you see these little these tiny like whatever follicles or something come out of they do a zoom on his fingers.

SPEAKER_02

I don't remember the scene. What which one is that with the first one? Toby. The first one Spider-Man. Oh, okay. This is Spider-Man? Spider-Man. You ever seen it? Uh a couple times, yeah. Um in the So isn't it isn't this true, yes or no? Okay. Um that in those films there's not a a web shooter. This is the other point I was gonna make. Yeah, make. It comes out of his It comes out of him. Yeah, see, that's like a that's a huge like uh change up. They make fun of him for that in No Way Home. In No Way Home. Okay, the second one. Oh no, that's the third one.

SPEAKER_01

No Way Home Part One, which is the third movie in the Tom Holland tree list. Yeah, that's the the third one. Yeah, I get those ones confused. He's in the lab with the other two spodermans, and they're doing web shooters, and Toby shoots and it comes out of him, and they're like, Whoa! That came out of you. Oh, that's cool.

SPEAKER_02

So wait, is that is that in the beginning part of that movie then?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_02

It's not, okay, because I don't remember that scene. They don't show up for a little bit. Toby specifically, I think, is later. Later on. Yeah. I I don't remember a lot of that movie. But I did miss the first hour of that movie, which we talked about this many times. And we don't need to go into it.

SPEAKER_00

Have you told it on mic? I don't know if I have.

SPEAKER_02

You can it's a good story. Yeah, it is. I don't feel like telling it. We'll save it for when possibly we uh after we see the movie we can possibly discuss it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Brandon Dick.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Brandon Dick. Speaking of which, it's a brand new day right now.

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_02

It is. You know what? Let's just let's just look around. I'm gonna look around. This looks really nice over here. This day is full of possibilities. It is, man. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Thanks. You're welcome. One of the possibilities is that we might talk about some television. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

We've been hinting at it. We've actually skirting around it. Yeah. Um, should we just go for it? I'm ready. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Um. Who do you think should start this thing? Um I can start us off.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Yeah. What do you got for TV? Okay, so I've watched one episode of television since the last time we have convened. Nice. One.

SPEAKER_01

This is gonna be a long episode. I can feel it. We got a big issue. It is. I might have to put this one out as another giant size. Giant size? Do we have the budget for that? Not at all. Frick it. We frick.

SPEAKER_02

We don't have a budget for anything. That's true. There's no budget. Yeah. Well, that means we can only go up from here. Not in dollars. We can owe money. Yeah. Uh do I don't want to. Yeah. Right. If not in dollars, then what do you mean? Yeah, if not in dollars, then uh I don't know what else. Maybe we can get some web fluid. Somebody can give us some of that. Back to that, huh? Shoot around. Yes. I actually had my one of my friends growing up. He had one of those toys. Yes. He had one of those toys that you could click the button and it would shoot Web Fluid, and it was like really kind of gross looking. Did it stick to things? Yes, it was stuck on a ceiling, I remember, for like years. Yeah, it was so cool. It was like purple. It looked really gross. Purple? Yeah, it was like purple and weird. Why? Yeah, I don't know. It was probably some weird manufacturing deal. I don't like it. Yeah, it was cool, man. No thanks. Yes. Well, maybe I'll get you one.

SPEAKER_01

What? If I may ask. Yes. What's the thing you watch? What's your one episode? What do you watch?

SPEAKER_02

Spider No IR number one. Step into my office is what I think it's called. Episode number one from Spider Noir.

SPEAKER_03

Noir.

SPEAKER_02

Noir. Okay. So okay, we're back on track now. This thing rocked my freaking little socks right off.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my goodness. You famously do wear socks that are way too small for your feet. Yeah, they're little. You got holes in all of them. Oh yeah. Let me just block that viewer. Those are really small.

SPEAKER_02

They're kind of small, yeah. They're a little tiny. I could see how those could get rocked. They got rocked off of the building. Okay, so. You were watching on the rooftop again? We're gonna have to get into that. Okay. Really. But the building was there and the socks were flowing off of them. It was really cool.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um, dude, so this was really good. I watched it this morning, actually. And yeah, it's fresh. It's just right in there. So this is starring our main man, Nicholas Cage, and a whole bunch of other really cool people. Um, specifically, I like Lamor and Morris.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love this dude. He's in the Bemo Harris ads now. Yeah. You know, he's like the guy, he's like, hey, what's up? Sponsor us. Yeah. Oh, that'd be nice. Uh he's just funny. He was a new girl, I think, originally where is where I saw him a little bit. I watched a little bit of that show. But okay, so I thought this show was was excellent, this episode. I really so like when I was in college and stuff, I really liked noir, like that vibe. I want to continue to watch more movies of that because I really haven't seen a lot of the big dogs. But I like this because it's shot in a style of noir. There's a lot of like canted angles, there's a lot of like, you know, like side angles. Um can I can I ask? Uh, which version are you watching? Okay, so I watched it in color, which is not what I wanted to do. Jonah. I know. Let me let me talk about that for a second. The reason it's not much of a reason. It was I watched a free the free version, or like they didn't have prime, and I couldn't find an option to switch it. They didn't give you the option? I didn't see one. You know, I looked at the I the thing that said options was locked to subscribers. Interesting. I didn't I didn't see one. So, but I've made the decision that and in order I in order to watch the rest episodes, I have to have Prime anyways. So I'm gonna do a free trial. Okay. And Prime Guys, if you're listening, I'm probably gonna cancel it after I'm done with the show.

SPEAKER_01

Cancel it before. So that when it when it runs out, it's just gone.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna run, I'm gonna go through the show and then cancel it before the 30 days are up.

SPEAKER_01

No, but you can start it and then cancel it right away, and then it will just stop after those 30 days. So then you don't have to remember.

SPEAKER_02

That's kind of nice. Just make it I don't want to do that because then they're gonna get mad at me. And I promise you they're not. I I don't want to get on Amazon's bad side again.

SPEAKER_01

So oh yeah, after the last one. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, that was bad. How are you doing?

SPEAKER_02

We can't talk about that. Yeah, okay. Yeah. All right. So the socks were gone. Yeah. So but uh I uh I want to watch it in black and white.

SPEAKER_01

Did you uh watch it in black and white? I did, yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm through the third episode. And I like for me, I think when I just when I hit play on the episode, that's when the thing comes up. It's like which version do you want to watch? So it is that's possible that maybe they just gave you the colored one by default.

SPEAKER_02

Do you have an account? Like, are you subscribed to Amazon Prime? Yeah. Okay. Because I think like I'm thinking that as part of it because I couldn't find it. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't have a it's you like I had to choose before watching it. So if you didn't, I'm sure that it might just be the one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I'll I'll get I'll get get the account going and then I'll uh get the black and white.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

But uh I really like the noir aspect. There's like a very like it's a simplicity to this show, I've already noticed. The writing is simple, the acting is quite simple, um, and this the writing is really I really like it. It's I feel like it's hard to pinpoint why, but it's like something is always moving forward.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

This is a theme I've noticed, at least when I'm talking about stuff, that I like when things are progressing. Um and also like the the effects. There was like in the first episode, like the only CGI I saw was like when there was the guy named Addison and he has like flame coming out of his hands. Right. Um, but everything else, like up until that point, I wrote no CGI, and then like crossed it out because that happened. But um because I like how it's very it's again, it's very simple, it's grounded, like a lot of the stunts seem real. Some of the props seem very like something from like a stage, like a like a theater kind of a stage kind of a show, or it's like kind of I don't know, I guess, simple like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So part of that for me is very like high concept where it's easy to jump in and and get engaged. Um and that's kind of I guess some of the main things. Like, I'm I'm very excited to continue the show. Um and yeah, the characters are cool, like I said, the actors. There's some really good actors like Brendan Gleason's in it, too. I love that dude is so good.

SPEAKER_01

He's I've never seen him turn in like a half-assed performance.

SPEAKER_02

No, yeah, he's always really committed. Mad Eye Moody, dude.

SPEAKER_01

Made Eye Moody? That guy's nuts. Nuts. Guys, Kramer's name was in Banshees of Inishirin.

SPEAKER_02

I never saw that though. Is it awesome? Yeah, you would like that movie.

SPEAKER_01

Oh shoot. Okay, I heard that was really, really good. We'll watch it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we could check it out. So, one other thing I want to throw in there. Yeah. Our main two guys, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are involved with this production.

SPEAKER_01

Can't get away from them. As well. We can't get away from them.

SPEAKER_02

They're on they were on Project Hail Mary. They're on this. And was there another thing we saw them on this year? Do you remember?

SPEAKER_01

No, but it feels like they're everywhere. They are. I think that's it. I think that was it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I saw they were also, because like this was kind of advertised this as like from the producers of into the Spider-Verse. Right. Spider-Ver stuff, which is really cool. But it is pretty cool. Pretty cool. So I'm gonna flip this egg over to you. And what what do you think?

SPEAKER_01

What do you want me to do with that?

SPEAKER_02

You can do whatever you want.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna eat it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Okay. Good.

SPEAKER_01

I'll eat it later. Um Yeah, I'm digging this shell. I think it's good. I think uh I liked what you said about how it feels like it's always moving. Yeah. I think part of that too is because I was actually I was talking with someone at work about it, and he was under the impression he felt that it wasn't moving that quickly. And I was like, I do think there are parts where maybe it's a little bit slower at times, but also just that noir, like that sort of the Casablanca double indemnity, like the dialogue is so quippy and like so quick that even during like a scene where not much is going on, the dialogue is happening so quickly that it feels it gives the illusion that you're moving forward. So I have no problems with the pacing in this show. I think it's great. Um, and I agree, I think the cast is incredible. Um, like I said, big big Brendan Gleason guy. I love Nick Cage, Lamore Morris is great. Um Yeah, I I'm really interested to see where this one goes. I feel like it's it's uh picking up even in quality as I go. So I'm Oh, yeah, I'm pumped. Yeah, I'm pumped for you. Thank you, man. Don't forget to cancel that free trial though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, right. I'll make a little note probably to myself.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yeah. Set a reminder.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'll I I probably will I I'm pretty analog, so I'll write in my little calendar in my book.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And then I'll uh I like that about you. Thank you, man. Thank you. That's what I got right here.

SPEAKER_01

A little notebook. A little notebook. Yeah, a little notebook, notebook.

SPEAKER_02

I I want to comment on the pacing one more time too when your friend had said that. Because like I think it's like uh I don't know how to explain it. Like it does yeah, like I I uh I agree with what you're saying. It's like there might not be like physically a lot of uh things happening, but totally like that the quippiness is there. Like I wrote down the conversation between Kat Hardy and and Ben Riley in like the jazz club. Like my first meet is like really funny and it's very back and forth and that feels very like 40s noir and I think it's like the like the natural pacing like it just it just feels like real like kind of real life where it's like it just flows into the next thing and uh and so it just feels kind of like organic I guess.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And it's like again it's just like there's like a simplicity to it where they're not like some of the superhero uh stuff that I've seen is kind of co I think maybe it's because it's if it's cosmic there's like more stuff happening. Again this one is more it's street level.

SPEAKER_01

Sure.

SPEAKER_02

You know and because it's set in like the 30s like Great Depression like it's like maybe that's part of it too that it's a little stripped down. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But um I could see yeah I it yeah I guess I don't really know how else to add to that but I I think maybe we talked about this when we covered Wonder Man back in the day. But I like when because another thing that he said was like um I I had to wait till like the end of the first episode to even get a web and I was like which also is not true because there is some flashback stuff going on. And I feel like by like midway through that first episode he's in costume. Right?

SPEAKER_02

Um he I don't I he's not in the costume from what I remember okay in it. Like in there are like little flashbacks at like in the beginning and stuff. Isn't he doesn't he he webs a door or something? He does he does web. He uh he like the guy like drops him off the like the roof yeah and then he webs to like save himself but he's not in the costume okay but he does.

SPEAKER_01

I just feel like I I enjoy when these shows that we know are like like we know Spider-Man you know we get we've seen this character at least in some form before I like when they show restraint on like the stuff that we're used to you know like him being in costume and beating the shit out of people and like I I'm sure that's coming, you know but I I kind of like the direction that they're going where it's like it's kind of like subverting expectations in a way of like here's just getting to know this guy. Here's the story here's some background and exposition and I mean there's a little bit of action at the end from what I remember of that first episode but it's not like it's not over the top per se and it even the action feels like kind of old school in a way.

SPEAKER_02

Like it's it's still clearly like choreographed and everything pretty well but it's not um it's not like over the top you know totally yeah they like kind of saying about the props and like what you're saying there's like a little like a wooden kind of a frame or like a little like uh I don't know like tall thing that's right there and then he like pushes the bad guy like punches him through it and breaks off some pieces of wood and then uh Nick Cage like takes a piece of wood to like just beat up the guy. And it's like that is this really old school and it's kind of funny.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely yeah yeah yeah I'm excited I'm excited to see where that one goes yeah I'm very uh thankful that they made that it's pretty cool. Me too yeah and live action too I mean I would have I would have taken an animated one. Dude for sure. But it's exciting Yeah. Alright Okay Spider Noir moving on I have watched a few shows in the past in the past month or so I did a little check-in in our previous TV episode on Peacemaker. Oh yes yeah and I think I think at the time I was only a few maybe like three episodes in or something like that. Um I am now done show's over let's go show's over and I'll just lump this other one in there because I did watch creature commandos in between seasons one and two of Peacemaker um both really good Peacemaker especially is um it's super high quality um I like seeing how involved James Gunn was in it you know because I feel like I I don't know I think after like Guardians and then I saw Superman before I ever saw an episode of Peacemaker. I just kind of assumed he was going to be on Peacemaker as like an EP, you know, but he he writes all of it I think and really he directs a decent amount of the episodes um so yeah it was really cool to see that we love that we love that guy totes um also I said it last month John Cena is hilarious um it's a very like darkly funny show um the second season of Peacemaker does not end on a favorable note.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah oh boy um our man's is in some trouble uh and they currently have no plans for a third season I think they're they've kind of said they're gonna resolve things or at least get to them in other DCU titles in the future but they have no plans for a third season. Um which is disappointing. That's kind of that's kind of surprising yeah that's a little risky I feel like a little risky yeah I hope that it pans out because I would like to see some closure on some things. Um but also I I think last month I said something about him uh his dad in his house has this room that kind of unfolds like uh Mary Poppin's bag like it's you go into it and it's way bigger it's like endless. Way bigger than it should be. And they call it a quantum unfolding chamber or QUC. And I thought that was how he found his way into the DCU. It that has nothing to do with it I guess. I guess I think James Gunn just said that everything pre-creature commandos so both Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season one are technically not DCU for some reason. I don't fully understand the reasoning behind it but I guess you're supposed to treat at least what I'm doing is treating Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 as like memories. Oh yeah so they're like probably mostly accurate you know but maybe like tainted by time or something. So yeah and then yeah that was really good and then creature commandos um really cool 2D animation um it centers around Rick Flag Sr. who is in Superman um and he is now the head of Argus I think it's called or like I don't know if he's the head but um in Creature Commandos I don't think he's there yet. He is just kind of he it's sort of like a suicide squad thing. Like he leads this group of people who were imprisoned over to a different country and they have an assignment um and then everything goes haywire. And uh sort it's sort of like every episode is centered around one of the characters. And there's an episode on the weasel who was also in the Suicide Squad the 2021 the James Gunn one and that was a very emotional episode. He is not such a bad guy as maybe you would have been led to believe um just very misunderstood. And um that I remember that being kind of like the emotional high point and then but the show that was kind of in the middle I think um it's seven episodes and they're like 30 minutes each so it's oh it's not bad pretty quick to get through and it was definitely worth the watch.

SPEAKER_02

Dude that sounds cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah I I had never heard of them before the creature commandos no yeah I not before I watched it I I don't know I still don't really I don't know if that's like a comics thing or I assume some of the characters are but yeah huh that sounds that sounds cool man yeah sounds pretty sweet. It was good and then uh the only other thing I consumed this past month as far as television goes is Rachel really really loves this well she I think maybe she's changed her opinion a little bit on it. I'll check back in with her and I'll get back to you but um her at the time it came out which was in 2020 she was really into this HBO limited series called The Undoing which stars Nicole Kidman Hugh Grant Wow Noah Jupe Huge Grant Huge Rant I've been calling him Hugh Grant nice and uh like Lily Rabe is in it uh Donald Sutherland is awesome in it um basically here's the rundown yeah uh Hugh Grant Yeah is okay so Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman are a couple their son is played by Noah Jupe he goes to this like prestigious uh like private academy school sort of thing like middle school and one night they're at a fundraiser for the school Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant Hugh Grant leaves the fundraiser early because he says he's a doctor he says he has an emergency with a patient and then like I think the end of that first episode is a reveal that a mother in the class has been murdered. Oh wow and by the end of the episode Nicole Kidman is unable to get in touch with Hugh Grant. He has disappeared and he left his phone and then this whole at the house at their at their house.

SPEAKER_02

Oh why would you do that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah and then this whole thing unfolds where he gets accused of the murder and it's kind of a whole did he didn't he kind of thing.

SPEAKER_02

This sounds really interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah wow it was pretty good it's pretty good it was pretty good yeah I think it's it's one of those things where like bless you thank you I um I don't want to how how much can I give away? How much do you care? You can go ahead I mean yeah yeah it's one of those things where like they spend a lot of time building a case for like that it could be somebody else but still like Hugh Grant is definitely the most suspicious of all possibilities. And after six hour long episodes it just kind of ends up being a well the the right answer was the first one you know like it's oh really the simplest answer is the correct one like kind of thing. So it was I was a little bit disappointing. I was expecting like some big twist you know sure sure um didn't get it. Dang okay it was still alright it's definitely they were acting the hell out of that show. Really?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah yeah um so yeah it was worth a watch it was worth a watch okay but it didn't get like the Lucas stamp of approval is that what would you think did did it did it happen or did it not I mean it happened that show happened I watched it it did happen yes I would say what what what goes into a stamp of approval?

SPEAKER_01

Um if you would recommend it to somebody else or a friend or family I guess it depends on who like who because I'm sure like some people would would uh be into it more than others but for me I thought it was alright. And I think even Rachel that's kind of what I was saying earlier is I think uh going into it she was like I've been really wanting to rewatch this show for like years you know and then at the end of it she was like that was not as good as I remembered it being so she had seen it when it came out originally yeah oh but you had not seen it. I had not this was a first time watch and if you're wondering where I watched it it was here. I was yeah I watched it in my in my home oh that's nice yeah was uh well you have you have a nice home here too I want to say um it's yeah yeah pretty nice pretty good yeah no that's pretty cool you guys we uh uh you watched some good content then it sounds like this last month I had a good month um and then I'm thinking for next month just to give people something to look forward to if they're looking for it I'm gonna be uh doing a rewatch and then starting the next season of X-Men 97 Holy cannolies dude passed out for half a second my eyes rolled into my head how many episodes are in season one I want to say nine okay are they half hour thereabouts half hour 40 minutes yeah because I am interested in that I'll tell you right now yeah it's fantastic I know you've liked it and I I uh that sounds amazing yeah um oh man I might do that that sounds sweet there are ten in the first season ten yeah I've been kind of like having a slight X-Men hankering okay because uh well I uh I actually found this out today that Dave's hot chicken is creating a like a cool like box meal with like blind bags you did you did send me this so I've never eaten there but I sure as heck am going to now oh yeah and get that thing you're making a pilgrimage out to Dave's yes yes sir so then I was like oh man but then I originally like also for the comics I was picking up the current actually both of the runs and then I like stopped sure um but I'm like it'd be kind of fun to try it out again. Did you ever watch any of the X-Men like the animated series from the 90s?

SPEAKER_02

I I don't think I did. Okay yeah did you watch any of that?

SPEAKER_01

I only leading up to the first season like I think I binged all of it in 2024 of this new one. Okay because it's the same universe and they have a lot of the same voice actors coming back which is really cool.

SPEAKER_02

Like from the 90s show oh my gosh how did they do that?

unknown

That's cool.

SPEAKER_01

They stayed alive most I don't want to speak for everybody yeah I don't yeah I don't know um but yeah it is cool because it's one of those things that I there it's a children's show from I don't even know what it was on but um it's definitely like Saturday morning cartoon vibes the original um but there are some bangers and the overall quality it's like when I watch like Batman the animated series and I'm amazed at how A how like Gotham is just perfectly captured in this children's show and B like the k the voice casting like Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Jokers like when I read Batman comics it's Kevin Conroy's voice that I hear. Dude that is sick. It's kinda it's this X-Men show the original run is definitely in a very similar vein I can see and I I do know a lot of people whose childhoods were very influenced by that show. I think I was a little bit late. It ended in ninety seven and I was born the next year. So I yeah I missed it for a good twenty six years or so. Huh well now it's found you now it's found me which is nice. So yeah I c I caught up and there was a little bit of like callback from what I remember to at least uh and one episode in particular that I can think of but otherwise I don't think you need to have seen any of the original but I do think you would really like X-Men 97 the that's the new one.

SPEAKER_02

It's quite good where is season two of Wonderman let's get it going it is it is confirmed that it's happening.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah but hasn't it been like three years since season one feels like it oh my god wasn't that in January that was in January I don't want to wait anymore that feels like so long ago so long yeah I'm ready I'm ready I'm ready right right now whenever they want to drop it yeah I'm ready all right well uh folks I think that's all we have for TV television I want to add oh yeah um to the listener if you are watching something cool let us know let us know drop a little comment action yeah you can send a little email you can send yeah axion we have a link in all of our um audio and maybe on the YouTube too um you can send us emails send us hey I'm watching this show and it's pretty cool yeah and and that would be cool I mean we can like chat about it you know definitely so that sounds cool we'd love to yeah all right everybody this has been issue number eleven of Wesley's Pop Culture Club um next week I think it's safe to say we'll be talking about music nice very like measured right there yeah like nice and restrained as a nice thanks music you know music doesn't get talked about enough if music be the food of love play on wow I'm hungry man thanks Willie for that one did he say that wow the with the bard oh I thought he meant Nelson maybe he I'm sure he's said that he's it sounds like something he would say 140 he's probably said a lot of things right around there yeah yeah he's uh his guitar is probably that old too that thing's freaking whole you see like the hole in that thing oh no there's a hole in it's like crazy yeah it's like all it's all like really worn looking it looks cool I don't think there's supposed to be holes in your guitar well there's the one but then there's like like usually there's one in there you know there's supposed to be a hole in your guitar that one a big hole yeah I know but his like it's very uh it's very worn it's very worn he should put teeth in there like a mouth why why I didn't mean to upset you the hole looks like a mouth oh okay that's actually a cool idea that we could put a little thanks little jaw you get it now you're seeing I get it yeah I get it he could put jaw in there Jeremy Allen White Rada my dude the hood where did we see him was he was that on a bear ad at Supergirl no that wasn't it wasn't for the bear it was for something else I don't know I can't remember maybe it was were they advertising the bear at the movies?

SPEAKER_02

Maybe before the trailers start they were doing like a that's another one where are you at in that series? The Bear? Yeah Zero I thought you episode one really I thought you had watched okay no yeah okay because I so dude I watched season one is I loved season one it's amazing yeah and then I watched like halfway of season two it kind of fell off I fell off of it and then um but now they have the final season out which looks the ads look pretty slick and um and so I'm kind of thinking about that I just have a lot where I'm like I could you know do I want to take the leap you know right and you're saying they're done after this one? Yeah it's the final season.

SPEAKER_01

It's kind of like that show is your longboard and you fell off.

SPEAKER_02

Wow it's actually precisely like that I got nothing else it's I got it's Jaw's face is the top of my board. The shark? His face.

SPEAKER_01

No man Hey isn't it funny that in Jaws the shark's name is Bruce and Jaw just played Bruce Springsteen in that movie?

SPEAKER_02

Whoa that's cool is anybody out here making these connections did you just come up with that or did you read Yeah no I just came up with that someone get this man a promotion. That's why people listen to this show that's some impressive stuff.

SPEAKER_01

I can't believe that we're not look listen we're not gonna top that I think we should call it quits. What do you think? Alright we're coming back next week with music I hope we have the same type of revelations we just have here next week I can't promise anything that seems like a one time thing. I'm not making any expectations no yeah I don't want to have any so I can't do that um come back next week come back hear us talk about some tunes some little tunes keys it'll probably be good I think it'll be pretty decent it'll be good yeah um that's it yeah yeah thanks for listening everybody thank you we'll see you around bye bye bye bye
