The Waiting Season

Waiting on God is hard… but how you wait matters even more.
In this episode of Coffee Talk, Candace shares a personal moment of reflection that led to a powerful revelation—there’s more than one way to wait, and not all of them lead to growth.
Through real-life examples and honest truth, she breaks down three types of waiting: passive, frustrated, and prepared—and challenges you to examine where you are.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, discouraged, or tired of waiting, this episode will remind you:
God isn’t just preparing the promise… He’s preparing you.
Waiting. Let's face it, none of us like to do it. And we're probably not really good at that waiting, right? But waiting isn't the problem, it's how you wait. You can take two people, for instance, and put them in the same season, and they will probably get different outcomes based on how they wait. Hi, and welcome back to Coffee Talk. This is your host, Candace. And today we're talking about something we all face, the waiting season. But we won't talk about the wait only, but how we're waiting in those seasons. We've talked about the bags we carry, we've talked about putting the pen down. We've talked about letting go. But after all of that, like what's next? We wait. And if we're honest, that's where most of us struggle. At least I know I do. The other day I was talking to God about some prayers that I prayed years ago, and I found myself asking him, like, Lord, you know, your word says to ask and it should be given, seek, and it's and you will find. But, you know, hey, what about those prayers I prayed back in 2012 or 2017, you know, 2024, you know, that haven't been answered yet. And then that's when God showed me something. It's not just that I'm waiting, but the way I have waited has probably kept me from getting those prayers answered. Let me see if I can give you like a real life example of what I mean. So every time I fry chicken without fail, my husband Randy will grab a piece like fresh out of the grease. Definitely too hot to hold, so you know it's too hot to eat. And I'm always warning him, like, Randy, you need to wait, but it doesn't matter to him. He takes a big fight and he burns his mouth. Then here comes the candles. Why didn't you tell me it was hot? And I'm like, I did. I told you to wait. But the truth is, that's kind of what we all do, right? We rush into things before they're ready. And the very thing we couldn't wait for ends up hurting us, right? Some of us just sit. We passively wait. Meaning we give up, we stop praying, we stop believing because we've convinced ourselves that maybe our situation won't change or maybe the thing we're praying for will not happen. And then some of us, we wait very frustrated. Like we get angry, we become very tired, we cry in private, we question God, we wonder why it is taking so long. And if you're being honest, you're a little upset that God hasn't come through for you yet. And honey, don't let it be a season where you need God to come through like yesterday. That really frustrates you in your waiting. And some of us, we do prepared waiting. And this is the type of waiting that God wants. Now, this is different. If you knew something was coming in three months, would you prepare for it? Would you position yourself for it? And that's what God is asking of us. Take, for instance, a pregnancy. Once that woman finds out she is pregnant, most of those, I'll say seven to nine months are spent preparing. You know, you got to make sure you have all your supplies. You're having baby showers, you want this baby to show up and not need or want anything. You prepare for what you know is coming. So, what am I saying? I'm basically telling you, don't just sit in the waiting room. Do some work in the waiting room, especially when you know that there are things that you are asking God for and things you have prayed for. Get in your waiting room, pray, study, strengthen your faith, condition yourself. But most importantly, prepare for the thing that you've asked for. Because when your name is called, you need to be ready. You're not just waiting on the promise. God is waiting on you to be ready for it. So today, ask yourself, how have I been waiting? Have I given up? Have I been frustrated? Or have I been preparing? Let me pray for you all. Father God, I pray for every person listening to this message. That in this season of waiting, you would give them clarity, strength, and endurance. Show them where they have grown weary and help them to reposition themselves in your faith. Let them not give up on what you have promised, but prepare for it. Lord, we thank you for what you're doing, even when we can't see it. In your name we pray. Amen. Thank you for spending these 10 minutes or less with me today. If this conversation encouraged you, please share Coffee Talk with another person who might need to hear it too. Until next time, keep walking in faith, keep growing, and remember you are not alone on this journey. Be blessed.
