Episode 8 of the GrinnaGolfCast welcomes Anthony Scott from Duck Hook Golf.

We get into the rise of Duck Hook and Hunty's 'Magic Pencil' allegations are tabled - as well hearing from Brian Vella who's giving away a dream GolfLoot trip to The Masters. Topical, eh.

That and much much more on your weekly golf gasbag.

Fast. Loose. Ready golf.

SPEAKER_01

Right, oh Patrick. I'm heartbroken according to the West Australian. Absolutely. Unfortunate at a Q school. Um, but what an experience. I had I had fun actually. Um when it's sunny, no excuses. Just the mental uh fragility came out and I butchered the last five holes. I'm running with a rules official. Cool. Never blame the golfer, Patrick. It's always someone else's fault. But uh the second day in the rain, we had a two-hour flooding delay because the greens were flooded, and that's when I did my best work, believe it or not. Um I was the only player to score better on the second day compared to my worst, but still missed out by about our eight shots or something. Didn't even make it to the Friday. So obviously need a lot more.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't make the cut. After all this, you didn't make the freaking cut.

SPEAKER_01

Not even to week two, mate. I didn't make it to the last day. They cut about five of us. I was one of them. Butchered. Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Hats off to you for making it, mate. Well done. Did the magic pencil come out?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the magic pencil. Yeah, that's what the rules official was asking about. Nah, nah, nah. That was a it was a rabbit hole that that run in, and I was actually being uh too conservative. I rang him and he sort of hurried me on. He's like, of course it's a free job, but hurry on, and uh anyway, long story. We won't get to it. You end up stealing my car on an inch or link.

SPEAKER_02

Oh well, we'll hear about that. But tell us who we got here, because we're at the Grinna Golfcast brought to you by Golf Loot. They're giving a trip to the Masters soon as well, aren't they?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. I think yeah, it's for next year, but it's being drawn on this Sunday, uh, at the Masters itself. I think they're doing it legally in Melbourne. Yep. But I'm announcing it at the Masters because I am en route, mate.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, random draw. We go. I can't believe it. I can't believe you're going to the Masters.

SPEAKER_01

But basically, two tickets to the 2027 Masters will be drawing with Golf Flute. So subscribe to Golf Loot because there's not many members yet. So here's your chip too.

SPEAKER_02

Bigger chance to win. Okay, we'll speak to Brian a little bit later on in the show about the trip to the Masters. But we've got a guest in here. Um I think he's forging a familiar path with a rival golf content uh operation. He's remaining under the radar and keeping very quiet. But Hunty, can you please introduce who we've got in the Grinner Golfcast studio?

SPEAKER_01

We have got Anthony Scott, he's an ex-Western Bulldogs player, but more importantly, a national, fellow national member and part of uh up and coming, not really, it's established and it's thriving. A YouTube content social media platform called Duck Hook with fellow players Oscar Baker, one of my old teammates, who's now calling me the Magic Pencil 2. And Bailey Dale, I believe. So they're thriving. We're playing a match coming up, actually, called the Magic Pencil Cup on the national. So we're going at it, but Anthony Scott, welcome.

SPEAKER_03

G'day, boys. Thanks for having me along. Yeah, it was hard to bite the tongue earlier when you did mention the magic pencil. So I have something to say on that, but uh, we'll get to that a bit.

SPEAKER_02

Well, no, no. Tell us right now. Or save it for Thursday. No, I want to hear about the Magic Pencil Cup. I want to hear about this cheating scandal/slash allegation, uh, Oscar Baker, V. Jaden Hunt. He's spreading it, Oscar Baker. Fill me all in. Let's set the scene.

SPEAKER_01

Virgin Lounge apparently was telling all the D supporters that uh D's players that I was forging my handicap.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I've only heard things. No, I have to stay pretty diplomatic here. Um love my man Oscar. I heard there were things said in the Virgin Lounge, but I think it's for a repeat episode with Maxi Gorn, maybe for a tell all there.

SPEAKER_02

Uh hang on, hang on.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not sure on the detail.

SPEAKER_02

But how has this happened? Because what just coincidentally, the D's and the Bulldogs were in the Virgin Lounge together. Were they traveling?

SPEAKER_01

It was the match the night before Oscar kicked the winner in Adelaide, was it?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then the D's were off somewhere else as well on the same day. So um, yeah, they met up, and Gorney, the original cheater, rings me and tells me, Jaden. I've got a bone to pick. I'm going live with this story. And I panicked. It was it was actual uh Cuscal Eve, and I was like, I don't need this right now, I need to concentrate, I don't want a cheating scandal to go on. But uh, yeah, anyway, it involved a marshal on the old course. I um and my dad signing off on a wrong card for Hang on, so there is a little bit of groundswell.

SPEAKER_02

Have you just walked right into the trap? Yeah, go on there. Hang on, what's happened? It's my own trap. What did you do?

SPEAKER_01

No, this is what happened.

SPEAKER_02

And either pour cold water on it or or stoke the fire. What are you gonna do, Jaden Pug?

SPEAKER_01

No, I got frustrated in a comp. Um this was this was months ago. It was irrelevant to the hand. It doesn't excuse it. We've all been there. Did the pencil stay in the channel? No excuse. I was on the what was it, the 13th par three on the old. I left it short like a lot of shots do. I chipped it, I chipped it maybe 10 foot, but I wasn't happy. And I quickly placed one and hit it. And then I was like, oh yeah. Like you're not allowed to do that in comp because it's like testing the slopes and stuff like that. It was just a rookie error. I was frustrated, I was having a shit day. But I think I had like 20 points. So it wasn't a flag round. So let's start with that. But I look off and the Marshall's our maha, mate. Yeah, I'm very, very sorry. That's a two-it's a two-shot penalty, which is right. But the problem was me and dad finished this round. Dad's a Mara PK, he knows his rules. We were rushing off to dinner, and he puts me down for a four because I missed my real part, and so I got a bogey, but with the two-shot penalty, it's a wipe, so it should have been a wipe. I got put down for a four for one or four for two. I can't remember if I got got the shot then. But I got on the front foot, rang James Verity, uh, member of the pro shop, and said, Dad signed this wrong, DQ me. He's like, Yep, that's very honest of you. But Oscar, Chinese whispers, it's turned into a cheating's camera. It was a flagged round, it got me through to Q school.

SPEAKER_02

Hang on. It was it, it was nothing to do with the Q school run.

SPEAKER_01

I've been playing 30 rounds, and it was like three months ago.

SPEAKER_03

It was before so it might have been a flag round, but it dropped off.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think it was, no. No, no, I no, no, I confirm it's not. Okay, well I have to see the card, I think.

SPEAKER_02

I you you sort of rambled your way through it. I don't think that would have uh done too well in court for you. Now I'm gonna throw it over the way. Or the Virgin Lounge. Or the Virgin Lounge. I can see why there's holes in this story, and I can see why Max Gorn is picking it apart like a rabbit dog. Ant, are you gonna slander him further or are you gonna are you gonna not throw Oscar Baker on the back?

SPEAKER_03

There, um that's what he says happens. But maybe if I beat you on Thursday, we'll get a real tell all truth serum post-round.

SPEAKER_02

So you guys have have teed up around.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we'll have a beer with James Verity afterwards. How about that? He's the official Well, he's who I rang and told must told him that I needed DQ because it because we signed for a wrong card, which is correct. I got an extra point. I didn't want that to happen. So I rang him, got on the front foot, because I'd like I've said, I'm being very careful because I don't know the rules back to front like the pros do. And I never wanted people to think that I am the magic pencil, that's some are now saying. Can you got it? I thought the abusing at the MCG was done. I was in the guard of honour the other day for Gorny and T-Max 250th, coming off the ground, I'm getting a few high fives, I'm signing a few things, I'm known again for a brief second, and then my last high five, someone's gone, Oh, it's the magic pencil! Oh, this is not sticking.

SPEAKER_03

Might have been baked.

SPEAKER_02

This is not sticking. Let's just keep the the magic pencil just just to the side for a second. We're gonna come back to it a little bit later in the uh in the episode. But Ann, tell me what Dark Hook is.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so Hunty summed it up pretty well at the start there. We're basically golf content creators, probably acting in a bit of a different field to himself, I'd say. Uh, but we're sort of following that American golf model, which is massive overseas. Um, the social media golf is it arguably rivaling some of the smaller tours over there, you could say. So we're just yeah, following in their footsteps. We think the Australian market has great opportunity to do something similar to what they're doing over there. Obviously, Ron Chopper's probably leading the way for us here. I love watching his stuff as well. So we're trying to be like a group that do content. Um, he's probably got the individual in the solo space covered, but yeah, following what they're doing. The the whole idea of Duck Hook started a few years ago. It was actually an idea that was started by Rory Lobb and myself. Oh wow. Um I mean we'll be up in Lobley Gulf in Noosa without during the bye. Lobley. Lobley. I don't think so.

SPEAKER_01

Is that a bit of a Voldemort? That was quashed in the Virgin Lounge last year, maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Um, yeah, we we actually started it. I think Lobby decided to pursue a solo TikTok career. How's that going for him? I think it's going pretty well. Yeah, no, he's uh seems to be doing okay, and his footy's going really well too. So maybe the catalyst for his good football was one moving to the back line, two, leaving Duck Hook Golf. But yeah, original idea between the two of us, and then he uh wanted to pursue more of a solo career. And then I said to a couple of my teammates at the time, Oscar and Bailey, do you want to come on board and be part of Duck Hook Golf? And that was yeah, roughly two years ago now. And they were obliged. And ever since then, we were doing a little bit of content when we played, and now it's become a full-time thing for me at least, and pretty serious. So do ask a fair bit of the boys when they're not playing. Yep. But obviously, footy's still their priority. Does it help when Oscar Baker kicks the match winner and has a game of his life? It definitely does. As I was saying, I'm happy for him, but also it's good for business. So to win-win.

SPEAKER_01

You're a businessman.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh now that we uh tried to leverage a little bit of that for the business, but yeah, very happy for him. He's going really well. And what's the Duck Hook classic which is coming up with a few AFL players? Yeah, so we've started releasing that content. Yep. So we had this idea towards the end of last year to try and get AFL players out on the golf course, in a sense, competing against each other. Because golf, it's one of the things that you can do in your spare time as a footballer. Yep. And also there's a lot of footballers that love their golf and also think they're pretty good. Yep. Case in point. Yep. Very much so he tries to go properly.

SPEAKER_04

No magic golf during the classic.

SPEAKER_03

So we um yeah, we teamed up with Future Golf and we thought, how can we put a competition together that satisfies the busy schedules of the football preseason, but also allows for us to show and display footballers playing golf and competing against each other in a sense. So what we we did is we always played the Dark Hook Boys, two out of three of us, and we would grab two players from each AFL Victorian team and play a scramble against them. So we've filmed nine of the 11 matches. We've got a special team that we haven't announced yet. Wow. With it coming up in the next couple of weeks. Not players, but very, very football adjacent, if you can figure that one out. Well, it won't be Hunty because he's off, you know, going around. He's no longer adjacent either. He's far, far away. No, no, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He's coming in and he's ripping him. I was hitting 12 shots on the G last time. I did see that.

SPEAKER_03

Um basically trying to see who the best AFL duo is and starting in Victoria for this year, but hoping to expand it going forward. What does duck hook mean? You should know. It's when you hit one left. He's a sliceman. You wouldn't know.

SPEAKER_02

Do it matter straight.

SPEAKER_01

You would not know what the.

SPEAKER_02

I've never heard the term duck hook.

SPEAKER_01

Duck hook, it's a massive hook. Well, I just call it a duck swoop and ran.

SPEAKER_03

But I should know. We I should I wouldn't mind knowing the actual origin. Sure. Why is duck in it?

SPEAKER_01

What is in front of you, Patrick? Yeah, the computer. Well this. The golf club you snapped, that was a duck hook.

SPEAKER_02

That was a duck hook. That was a house. I just call it a I've always called it a snap hook.

SPEAKER_01

Same thing?

SPEAKER_02

Did you hit the ball with that part of the club?

SPEAKER_01

He snapped the other, almost killed himself at night. This is um like nicked his neck, missed his jugular by a centimetre.

SPEAKER_02

We uh well I wrapped it around a tree. And this is my trusty five iron for those listening to the um.

SPEAKER_01

On the last day of Grinnert 2's of one of coasts, the golf trip eight years ago, he was on a grand final of eight points on the seven-eighth.

SPEAKER_02

I was having a ball tear.

SPEAKER_01

And his top duck hooked his drive and he's cracked it, and he had nine points, so he made a rule that if anyone ever has less than ten points on any round of the grinner, they're not allowed to come back the next year.

SPEAKER_02

Luckily, this rule wasn't enforced before for this round because I was recovering. I was rattled. What I did is I hit it into the bush, and then I tried to hit out, and I missed the ball. And I was so angry and pissed off, I just swung this club as hard as I could into a tree, and the club just shattered, and just this part of the club came flying back at my face and just landed like straight in my chin with the with the shaft.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because it broke.

SPEAKER_02

And then it just started pissing blood everywhere. But I was like, if that got in my eye or into my throat, luckily we had the old. I would have been talking about duck hook golf right now.

SPEAKER_01

The goat of the grinna, kind of the kind of the goat from Ireland. Uh he's a member of Royal Port Rush. He happened to be on the trip because we met him the week before at Royal Melbourne, and he was a doctor. He's now a surgeon, I believe. Um I'm gonna go visit him soon. But he was lucky enough to fr to patch him up, and it could have been bad. Could have been very bad.

SPEAKER_02

Could have been terrible.

SPEAKER_01

Could have now been called the the Garshagen Invitational.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Rest in peace.

SPEAKER_02

We do have that the first person to to kick the bucket, the grinner gets renamed. That's a rule to be taking. We're talking about golf trips here, Aunt. Do you go on any golf trips with the Duck Hook boys?

SPEAKER_03

We did one to Queenstown last year. We lost Bailey Dale early, not to a straight golf club. He uh his dog actually fell ill. Jury's still out on the magic pencil, and whether that actually was the case. He gets a bit bit shy, I think, when it comes to leaving home. He's loves his creature comforts, old Bailey. Uh so I went to down to Queenstown with James O'Donnell and Oscar Baker, and we brought Charles Murray, our employee, the young 19-year-old Wesley boy. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I know James O'Donnell, though. Side note.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. He'll love that. He'll love that.

SPEAKER_02

He came and had a beer with me in London. You know, Simon O'Donnell's son, sick. Come on, mate. There's the Nuffy in him. Sorry, I'd carry on. Don't listen to this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so we went down there. Yeah, we played Jack's Point a couple of times. They're actually very kind and let us have free rain on the golf course in the afternoon on one of the days, and we were able to film content, and that was a lot of fun. We played a skins match for dinner, which was good. And I think James, your mate, your bestie, he lost that one. He'll come on the show. That's actually. We're battling for a guest, mate.

SPEAKER_02

We can get him on. So go on out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so we did a YouTube video as well, Jack. It's a beautiful course, so if you want to go check that out and have a look.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you got good footage there. Yeah, well, you can't go wrong. There's a few iconic holes. Have you played there? Yeah, yeah. Like well, we had our I think it was Grinner 3 or Grinnell 4, like the short par three, the little wedge 90 metres towards the uh lake. Yeah, that rivals Pebble Beach. Oh, such a good hole. And then you got the one over the sheep paddock, like sometimes in the right season you're hitting straight over the sheep, and then you got the classic, I think it's a 16th where you're just hitting it into the mountains. Yeah, it's like a path for 20 seconds. And you can just now it's a par four, but if you get over the hill, it just goes, you've got like a 50 metre wedge in. But you hit it up on the mountains, it just sits there for ages. Beautiful stuff. I actually got a video of me hitting an absolute bomb, and I'd try my first um club twirl and butchered it, and you you lost it. And I did.

SPEAKER_02

It was very funny. I liked it a lot. Why don't we, whilst we're on the topic of speaking about great golf courses and exciting things, the masters. And golf loot are taking two people, is it, Hunty?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, they are. So basically, this is for the 2027 edition, next year, but this Sunday.

SPEAKER_02

We better get on the plane pretty quickly because the masters is finished.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, mate, I'm I'm off straight up to here. I'm to the airport, mate. Believe it or not, I'm going the practice day and Sunday, and I'm saying walking distance from the course, Patrick. I'm going bird watching on the first practice day at 7 a.m. at the Malbon house with Gumtree Golf. I have no idea what I've signed up for, but I'm getting into bird watching at the Masters in Augusta.

SPEAKER_03

I can't believe seeing any birds at Q School.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I know. I had one in the terr the torrential rain. That was it. Absolutely it. Um, but yes, on Sunday, like I said in the intro, um Golf Loot will be uh drawing uh two tickets to the 2027 Masters, and then basically I'll film something at the gates of Augusta. I'm not allowed my phone in, but I'll I'll think of something and I'll announce it through that. And yeah, lucky, lucky for them, they can go. And it's only, what is it? It's about 15 bucks a month. So quick.

SPEAKER_02

Does it look sus if I win it?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you give it to me, but like it would look weird. I'm gonna ask Brian when we speak to him. Would you redraw it? Would you be like, we can't we can't give it to you?

SPEAKER_01

He does it live, he does it proper legally, so that'll still be recorded all over the um above board, but I'll just come up with some sort of content. I might might ask Scotty some advice on what I can do to announce it to the lucky winner.

SPEAKER_02

And I think you are bobs on to get kicked out in some way, shape, or form because the rules there, no phones, and as you're in this new golfer content creator era, I reckon you'll pull the phone out at one point, you might get a tap on the shoulder. There's no running.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no running.

SPEAKER_02

I reckon you'll as you try and go full ASCII and try and get to the best spot on the sp at A-Mand corner, you'll get caught. Yeah. And what happened? Are you out? Like, see you later, ticket gone.

SPEAKER_01

There's no speed walking. So uh group a few years ago. Yeah, yeah. No, so basically, if you get caught running, you all wear a badge, I believe. Yep. Get caught running, yelling, you know, the classic like mashed potato or something. They don't want that stuff. This is pure golf for masters, which I love. I'm leaving my phone in the accommodation. I don't need that. I want to be one with the moment. I can't wait. The masters, the best thing is when the iconic parts drop, there's no cameras in the background like you see at all the other pro events. I love that. But basically, if you break any of those rules, if you get caught with your phone, um, you run and stuff, it's badge off, you're done. But all week. Yeah, all week. You're not allowed invited back because everyone knows the rules. But if you're toe the line like speed walking, there is a sin bin, believe it or not, at the masters. I got told penalty box. Earlier today, I was um I had a guest appearance on the Nico Hearn uh Mark Allen podcast, um, Talk Birdie to me, I believe. And they told me about the Sinbin rule. Uh Mark Allen was with a big group. There was a big Croydon contingent and another group that were a bit more uh, I guess, proper. And it was the proper group that got called speedwalking. So the Croydon boys have gone off at this bloke and the Sinbin for speedwalking to try and get his chair to A-man corner.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, wowee. A penalty box at the Masters. Wouldn't that be something? Hey, why don't we get um Brian on the phone? Brian. Hello, Brian's Brian's speaking. Is that Brian from Gulf Loot? It is. Welcome to the Airwaves, mate. You're on the you're on the Grinna Golfcast live as Hunty's trying to put his uh headphones on.

SPEAKER_00

How we got there. Well, what a what an honor this is. Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

You're straight into it. And mate, you're giving away a trip to the Masters.

SPEAKER_00

We are giving away a trip to the Masters. I remember when I went to the Masters for the first time, and um I had the opportunity to make a phone call to a mate and tell him that to get his passport ready. And that we were and that we were that we were going we were going together, and um that was about ten years ago, and I've I've always remembered that moment, and that was really where this moment came from and and uh this business that we started now where we're able to give these things away, these types of experiences away.

SPEAKER_01

I'm a lucky one that gets a guinea pig some of these future trips, and um yeah, do you want to tell us more about some of the some of the next auctions you're doing later in the year to potentially join me overseas in Europe or wherever it is in the UK?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, look, we're all about connecting you know, really keen golfers, the enthusiasts out there to great courses, experiences, and stories. And I don't think there's a bigger story in the game right now than you, Hunty, and what you're trying to do. So we're fully supportive of that, whether it's whether it's achieved or not, we'll time will tell, but we want to be a part of it.

SPEAKER_02

How much did Jay pay you to say that?

SPEAKER_00

No, nothing at all. No, it's um he's uh he's a one-of-a-kind, and um we're happy to be involved. And we're gonna send a couple of people on the journey with him. So, yeah, as a as a golf loop member, uh, you're gonna be have the chance to go and get on a plane and play one of these top 100 courses alongside him, which I think would be pretty special.

SPEAKER_01

Patrick, you could be the lucky winner now.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna ask you, I want to ask you this seriously, Brian, and I want a serious answer. I am a paid member of Golf Flute. I pay my I pay myself. Thank you. Now, what happens if I win? Because the optics of that probably wouldn't look great.

SPEAKER_00

Um let's not let's not talk about that, but we're lucky that we have a fully audited independent random draws system. So I don't touch that. It all happens completely outside my control. I mean, I've of course there's people I know that have joined up and supported what we're trying to do, so the chances of that happening um are real, uh, yourself included. But you know, it's all there's a paper trail, it's audited, it's independent, there's no worries there.

SPEAKER_02

That's what I like to hear. Golf flute's still young, it's growing. I can't imagine there's there's hundreds of thousands of members out there at the moment, are there, Brian?

SPEAKER_00

No, mate, we've been going for not even three months. So So what I'm trying to say the truth is you will you've got pretty good pretty good chances to run it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is probably the best chance you have to win a trip to the Marses. And what is Goplet? Twelve dollars ninety nine to buy a trip.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. A month you can spend a little bit more if you want to have a few more chances. Um, and this is uh you know a serious trip for two all accommodation flights right near the gates of Augusta, playing golf over there as well. Um it racks up at about 48k. It's a massive, massive. And someone is gonna win it. I guarantee you if someone's walking away with it.

SPEAKER_01

Crazy.

SPEAKER_02

I've got a good feeling about this.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no. Imagine if you won the tickets.

SPEAKER_02

I've got a good feeling. Who do I take? Maybe I take maybe I take James O'Donnell.

SPEAKER_00

He won't answer the call. That will be the biggest, I think that'll be the biggest dilemma of all is yeah, who do you choose to do? Exactly. Who are you gonna make that phone call to?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you'd be the most popular person in the world if you won those two tickets. You'd be you'd have uh James O'Donnell line up at your door, Patrick.

SPEAKER_03

I dare say. He'd tear up the restraining order.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. There it is. There it is. We got Anthony Scott here, Brian, and he's just come in with the Trevor Marmalade right at the right of the death just to just to put me back in my place. Hey, before we let you go, favorite masters moment.

SPEAKER_00

Love it. Um, well, Adam Scott winning the playoff. I think uh it's the first one that comes to mind and that read that he got from well reportedly from Stevie Williams. But look at all credit to Adam break the drought. So yeah, I mean that's that's the one that by far and away for me is is uh most memorable.

SPEAKER_01

That was such a good moment. I missed my uh 3-4 accounting class. I was at lunchtime at Brighton Grammar, and uh everyone else went in when the playoff started. Old Bunky stayed stubborn as I always am. And my accounting teacher said I came in, he's like, Don't lie to me. If he won, you're good. If he lost detention, I said, Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

That's brilliant. That's very good. I I think I was in Portugal. And then we're in year 12. No, it was a year in front of you. All right. So I was on my gap here, we're in Portugal. I think we're at a Maccas, just sort of hopping around, going from Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi zone. Oh, I guess. And that's where we were watching it. And it was the fading light and the rain, and then he just steps up and drains it. Goes big. Clutch. Um all right, Brian. Well, gold flute,$12.99. The best ever chance you will have to win a trip for two to the 2027 Masters being drawn on Sunday night. Yeah, at the masters.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, the Masters Sunday. Um that's right, Masters Eve, uh, Sunday night, so the 12th of April. Um, and just as we mentioned, beyond that, opportunity to play with Jaden somewhere in the world. We've got a we've got a trip to Japan coming up with the great Paul Shane. We've got a round of golf with Nico Hearn. There's loads of things in there in the pipeline. So um plenty of reasons to get involved.

SPEAKER_02

Tasty prizes. Yeah, very tasty. Never a better chance. All right, Brian, thank you. Thanks, boys. All the best. Thanks, BB.

SPEAKER_01

I'm honestly, I'm going this week. I can't sleep at the moment. I I don't give I don't care about, I don't know, Q school and things like that. Like I'm not heartbroken. What is breaking my heart if somehow the plane crashes and I can't get there? Wow. I am so excited. I haven't heard a bad word about the experience. I've got my sports door over there, too. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I shouldn't probably say that right now. But yeah, which way are you going? Yeah, which way are you going? I'm going the long way, I think. I don't know yet.

SPEAKER_02

Um, he would have a meltdown if he got stuck in Dubai.

SPEAKER_01

I'll join. I'm trying to get to my can you pause this for a second? Earth sore. What do you want, Patrick? A cap. Here we go. Done. Scotty. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

More than a cap.

SPEAKER_01

More than a cat. Whoa.

SPEAKER_02

Two caps. Uh all right, on that note, um, ultimate golf course time. And I will put my hand up for a faux pas a couple of weeks ago. Um, a few people, or Hunty rang me the other night saying, mate, what the fuck have you done? You've given Moon a Legends number six. We've put it as hole five, and yes, I buggered it up. I miscounted. Um, so our golf course is special, and we're putting that par five in in as the fifth hole. Um, what we do here, Ant, is we nominate each uh favourite hole that we're up to. So we're up to hole eight, and we're building the ultimate golf course, um, which hopefully one day someone will um design and and make, and Hunty can go play it with all his golf loot winners. So, Hunty, do you want to kick you know actually no Ant, you can kick us off.

SPEAKER_01

Is it called Ant, by the way?

SPEAKER_03

I do my parents and the brothers.

SPEAKER_02

Patrick's just come in with a new bigger one. Well, mate, I was called I've got someone at work called Ant, and he's Anthony, so I just sorry, mate. I should have asked.

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't mind. I actually don't mind it. It reminds me of my childhood. And we're gonna go in the box of tissues at now. It's fine.

SPEAKER_02

Well, lad, give us a whole late.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, whole eight. Uh yeah, so as Hunty mentioned, member at the National, and I do love the eighth hole on the old course. We've actually got a funny story about getting Power moved on that hole as well recently. So I was paired with uh a member that I hadn't met before. He joined myself and I think it was my mum, and didn't have a great start to the round. Probably would be lucky. Oh, plenty. Would have been lucky to have seen a par on the scorecard, no magic pencil for me. So all genuine on that front. But uh yeah, get to the eighth hole, which is a par five. Pretty cool par five where you you can take a seven iron off the tee and still get on in two, which is cool.

SPEAKER_02

Controversial hole, but cool. Well, if you overdo it with a drive, you're you're in the window. Yeah, yeah, it actually brings in trouble.

SPEAKER_03

But if you're into the wind, you've arguably got to hit the best shot of your life to get on the fairway. Yeah, so anyway, I think we were downwind, so put one in play off the T and then got on in two and had a good look for Eagle. And I was like, you know, when you got an Eagle putt, you want to make sure everyone knows you got an Eagle putt. And the guy I'm playing with is like, oh, this would be your first ever Eagle. I'm like, hang on. So he just assumed by how I'd been playing to start the round that that would be my first ever Eagle. Well played, well played, sir. And I definitely missed the putt too after that.

SPEAKER_02

So he's just backhanded you golf style. Yeah, that is awesome. Yeah, well done. He's duck hooked you. He didn't straight in the cheek. Alright, so the Nash old number eight. Yeah, I like it.

SPEAKER_01

The just one second. The green complex, like you're walking to the next tea and you overlook a bit of the gunner course, the beach and stuff is beautiful. Even the T-box on my own.

SPEAKER_03

The Vista is like one of the best on the whole entire property there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's a beautiful house around that area. I want I want one later in life. Be nice. I will go. I will go a fellow national hole. But it's only been open for a couple of weeks. It's the new Long Island number eight. Okay. It hasn't changed that much. I believe it was already the signature hole, and I'm voting it's gonna keep its spot. There's obviously three routings. I don't know, obviously, for those that don't know, OCM have done a world first innovation. I was speaking to Ashley Meade, the M in OCM at the opening the other week. Uh played the opening of it, and they've got three tracks. The original track, it's called, which is because it's an old racetrack, and the farm, because it used to be a farm as well. So three different routings. And I asked him, will the three routings be ranked differently in all the magazines? And he said, Yes, it's a world first. The same bit of land, the same green complexes, but on one day you'll be hitting a par five going north, and the next day you'll be going southeast direction with a par three. They've got some physicist or something involved with so they can get the greens 360. They got different pins. So basically, the eighth on the original course, which is going to be their showpiece. He reckons it'll be uh rank number one of the three. It's a beautiful, it does it's not too dissimilar to the old Long Island number eighth. It's another short path four, which you know I love. You can hit uh, like Scotty said, a seven iron, and you've got the classic maybe 110, 120 meter shot to a very, very slopey green. It's oh you've got to hit a perfect wedge to keep it on that green. You've got to use the right hand slope. If you're at the pin or left of it, it's gone. But you can also drive it. So I penetrate and I've been doing that a few times. Some of the times I have a sort of eagle chip or eagle Texas wedge, I guess, but the other times it's a double bogey because if you get stuck in the pots, the fairway pots, it's that classic 80-meter bunker shot, which as we know all as we all know, is golfers are the hardest shot. So I'm going the New Long Island original uh route number eight. Very good.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I'm keen to play there. Umbers only at the moment, so you can get time right now. Hopefully, someone can go overseas for ages next golfing year and give up their share to me. Wouldn't that be good? Bunky. You could you could win the tickets to join me, mate. Oh mate, you never know. That would be nice. Brian will probably be going if it was me. Um I am going a hole, which is bloody hard. It's actually the hardest on the course, Sorrento 8. It's a big long par four. You've got the lake on the left. If you duck hook it into it, you're gone. See you later. You've got to get your drive right.

SPEAKER_01

But if you're PC, you've learnt what a dark hook is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but if you push your drive just a little bit too much, you sort of get stuck in the sort of heathy trees on the right, and you just leave a monster shot in. But if you get the drive right, then you can just hit a nice four or five iron up and you can run it right up onto the green and leave yourself a nice part. Hard hole, but um, you know, if you if you do conquer it, you feel bloody good and you can um continue to crack on with your rounds. So a hundred percent that is the eighth. That is I can confirm.

SPEAKER_03

I've been playing with a Sorrento actually with Adam Thominson, who's been on the pod. Uh Anthony Ring's a member there, he's he's a ripper. Yep. Fun track, Sorrento, very funny.

SPEAKER_01

Fun track. Is that Riga?

SPEAKER_03

Ringer.

SPEAKER_01

Ringer. You would have heard of Ringer. Him and Dale Thomas got on some WhatsApp group just harassing me that I was all centrepiece of the whole golf industry. Dale Thomas, look at you, mate. You make it all about you. So I don't know what that's all about because I'm friends with you friends with you. I don't know who this ringer is, but I'm joining him, I'm adding him to the blacklist of this golf cast. I want to hear from him.

SPEAKER_02

Dale Thomas. I really like him. Oh, ring up. Oh, ring. He's a good fella. I don't know who he is. Old ringer link. Um, cool. All right, well, who are we giving it to?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I love the old. Yeah, the old's good.

SPEAKER_02

Is it have we had national on the on it yet?

SPEAKER_03

I think it's such a unique path five. Like you don't get it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I know. It's so unique, it's controversial. The only thing is, quote unquote, from Ashley Meade, this is OCM's most impressive work. And I said not enough people have played it. I said it, yeah, but it's about to change. I had the Americans that I've been playing with that I'm gonna go to their courses, they were itching. They're OCM fans. OCM right now cannot put a foot wrong. And I said, you can look back on my Instagram stories, I said on Saturday afternoon after I played it a few weeks ago, this will change world golf. Because you get a club like Victoria or a Kingston Heath or whatever, one horse clubs where there's members scrapping for tea times. You give them three different courses in one on the same bit of land. You know how much land's worth nowadays. Yep. This will change world golf.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I'm putting it out there.

SPEAKER_02

No, I think the fairest way to do it is a little rock off right now. Yeah, let's do it. Do it and first hunt.

SPEAKER_01

And the winner also has to tear up first. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Paper, scissors, rock. Oh god. Is that another one? You two can play footy, but you can't. Paper scissors rock. Paper scissors rock. Damn it. You know, I saw a video the other day where some kid played with paper scissors rock with a guy coming off a basketball court. 14 times in a row of draw. They drew they pushed it. What are the odds of that? Like 0.33 times. For the power of 14. Yeah, power 14, yeah. Mental.

SPEAKER_03

Apparently, there's a competition though worldwide for paper scissors rock. So there is a mental side to it. You can actually get the colour.

SPEAKER_01

What's your strategy? You got me there.

SPEAKER_03

I can I can never think of it at the time. And then when you lose, you're like, oh, I should have done that.

SPEAKER_01

Well, my strategy, which didn't work, is stuffing up the first one because then they get all wiggy. Like you're strong. Then I went scissors again, but you change it. You're a weird thinker, Anthony Scott. You can tell it. Anyway, it's a it's the old national number eight.

SPEAKER_02

Don't mind it. Old national number eight. Well, National gets on to the ultimate golf course for the first time.

SPEAKER_01

So weird hole for the first one, but it doesn't matter. No, no, did it win? No, it would have won last week. The seventh, Patrick. Surely I argued, oh, we took it to the fans. Yeah, you took it to the fans. We need to check that vote. What else did you do? Uh number seven, it was National Old. Oh, Mum had a hole. We had mum and dad on last week. Mum had a hole in one last year on the seventh and Vic, so she argued that. And Dad is a step over.

SPEAKER_02

He wanted to get lucky that night, so he agreed with his mum.

SPEAKER_01

I was trying to forget that last week's episode. I was just listening to it. Yeah. Your dad's a very horny man. He is. On live things, it's just it's a real niche on live TV and live podcasts.

SPEAKER_02

It's been the window. We still haven't had an answer, huh? No, we haven't had an answer. We tried to ring um Jake Lever last week, and then he tried to ring Elijah Holland. And oh my god, it oh, it's number one. It's number one. It's the one. It's the one we've been waiting for, mate.

SPEAKER_01

To be fair, I saw him the other day. Um I was messaging him. He's doing well, member of PK, old Stephen May. We wish him well. Uh I played, I reckon, six or seven seasons with him, so I think he will take this call. Perfect. Leave the voicemail, I guess. You'll quit if we can record.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, oh, straight no. I reckon I'm blocked. You're blocked. Alright, well, we tried Stephen May, no luck. Um, and Hunty gets away, Scott Freight. We have recorded this before you have jetted off to the US. Um, but that becomes pretty important because there's a lot of people out there wondering what the hell's going to happen to the Grinna Golfcast. How are we going to negotiate and make this thing work whilst you're gallivanting around the world at Augusta?

SPEAKER_01

Well, so we're doing the meeting live during the podcast, are we? I thought we're talking about it after. Anyway, let's thrash it out.

SPEAKER_03

Well, style takeover from this book, I think.

SPEAKER_01

So I have gone with Brian with the idea to create a mini-series. It'll be about 10 episodes. Um might be a little bit in your space. So if you have a spare two weeks, I'm looking for friends and golfers to join me for two weeks' segments. So I do. I am I've got a friend coming to Augusta, the little New York section. We're gonna record two episodes. So we'll play not play, we'll watch the Masters, we'll record around the corner at one of the houses. We might go to a bar, we'll just we'll interview some random people around. There's gonna be some cool people at the Masters. Then we'll jet off to New York, play a few of the Long Island courses, a few in the top hundred. And basically we'll get a videographer, do it properly. We want to tell more about the stories about the golf. It won't be so much the shots like you guys do. Uh it'll be a little bit different, but it'll be a bit of golf for the public courses. But a lot of these courses are real private, so you can't film and stuff. So I want to interview, say, the Pro Shop members, the the random country towns that have a top hundred course that the the town almost revolves around. So a good example is later in the year when I'm in the UK, is to go to there's a there's an Irish, uh sorry, a Scottish pub called Donovan's or Donegals or something. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Are you gonna try and hit the shot? Yeah, or maybe if I'm allowed. Yeah, I've been there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Well, the Aussie the Aussie Pro did it the other day. Yeah, you hit it onto the other. Apparently the bar lady there is uh very famous. I'd love to interview her. But basically, I'll shoot two-week segments with a new co-host. I want I'm still figuring out which one you're coming for. Yeah, um, but yeah, basically, Garsh is not a co-host anymore. He might whack. He might? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

We're still do we do we try and do a zoom link? That's what I'll say at some point.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I definitely the fans.

SPEAKER_02

I'll get my people to speak to your people, man, and we can work out.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly right. To be honest, the feedback I get from the pod is stop yapping and let Garsh speak because he's better at it than you, and I fully agree with that. So we'll we'll work something out. But basically, filming this 52 in 52 week idea where I am playing 52 of the top 100 golf courses in the world as ranked by golf.com, which is what most the American followers, Nuffies, um, use. Yep. And I'm gonna play 52 of them. I've already pretty much knocked off the Aussie ones. There's seven here, there's three in New Zealand. I'm gonna play about 15 in the States. I'm gonna base myself in New York, go around the rest of America during the week. I'll play about 15, come back, don't forget about Drysdale, play three games for Drysdale. I thought you're paying six. No, no, it's three. Just three. Qualify for finals, actually, four. I'll play the last game as well. And if we make the finals, I'll play the finals too. And then basically, I'll go jet off to London at the start of June. I'm gonna go to the British Open, I'll go to Wimbledon, Silverstone, oh the man, tour to France, and then Monday to Friday, I'll be playing the Scottish courses, the Irish courses. I'm going to a Spain. I think there's I think there's a top 100 in Portugal. Yep. Uh, there's one in Germany. I'll venture to my new friends I played with the other day at the national. And basically, yeah, it's gonna be a year of heaven for me. And if I'm feeling good, whether it be Q school, I'll have another crack next year, or finish off the next 48, I could become a centurion come twenty the end of 2027, which currently there's only 25 in the world that have got the current 2005 uh 25, 2026 done.

SPEAKER_02

Wow. So it sounds like sounds like someone's dream then.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. The big one is a tough life for you, isn't it? There is the big one though, Augusta. So there's a big group of contingent of called the 99 Club. Yeah. People who played 99 of them, but haven't got Augusta. So can you get on? There might be a way. How? There might be a way. It involves an honorary member, and an honorary member is a past winner. So if you get invited by an honorary member, say Adam Scott.

SPEAKER_02

Don't say Adam Scott's invited you.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, no. We're going older. We're going people that didn't make as much money, and yeah. Who? Who wants to see a young Australian hit a big bowl? I'm not naming names, but it's in the process. I believe I can get it done, which will be ridiculous. But that's what I'm about to venture off to. Um I'm off tomorrow, so good luck, mate. Yeah. Well and we'll see where the Grinner Golf Glass goes. Thank you so much, Andy Scott. Hit me up about joining for a two-week segment. We could definitely link something up. I look forward to the Magic Pencil Cup coming up at the national.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. Thanks, Hunty. What about me, mate? I'm gonna need to give you your plenty there. I'll get John to do your segment. Thanks for having me on, boys. Uh I actually might take you up on that two week. I've done a bit of a hammy, so I can't play footy, but I can swing a golf club.

SPEAKER_01

So maybe there's a California number could work.

SPEAKER_02

We'll workshop it with wheel and a dilly. You guys can workshop it back in the green room. And we'll go from there. But um, no, mate, thank you for coming on and it's been a great chat. And uh, hunty, good luck. I am not jealous um at all.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. And can you get Oscar Baker to return my calls?

SPEAKER_02

God so that's been the Grinner Golfcast brought to you by Golf Loot, giving away two trips. One trip for two people, sorry, to the Masters 2027, drawn on Masters Sunday night.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Sunday night in Australia, I believe. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

All right, no rope.
